Cute little town, if you have a rig or RV, you can park along the street across from the restaurant. Outside dining is pet friendly. Inside is cute. Good food...a little greasy but good none the less.

One the best breakfast spots in Cayucos. Shanty’s mess is a delicious mix of eggs, sausage and veggies topped with their homemade salsa. Bran muffin(ya, I know…) was moist and tasty. Also homemade. Always a stop for breakfast for me when here.

Sea Shanty has become our new must go-to destination when visiting the Central Coast. The food is great and the staff are friendly. Fish & Chips: Why else go to the coast for lunch? We've also had Carol's Burrito for breakfast -- better be ready for BIG on this one guys. Not only is it grande, it's just darn tasty. Oh, I almost forgot, if you want to be immortalized, take a hat or two to add to their quirky collection hoisted up on the ceiling.

My mom and I go here for lunch about once a month. Best time to go is during the week after the lunch time crowd has gone. Wonderful atmosphere, very relaxing, wait staff is very attentive/helpful. The food is wonderful and tasty. I always get the same thing, while mom gets something different every time.

Very Doggie friendly, as well as people friendly. Very relaxed outdoor area. Been here twice in two days. I have to say that the Prime Rib was probably the best that I have had in years. Perfectly cooked. Lots of Doggies when we ate there and everyone was comfortable with that. My Dog gives it 6 Stars.

Drove a little up the 1 from home to spend time in Cayucos. I had never had breakfast here before but have enjoyed lunch many times. The breakfast was delicious! A ham and cheese omelet is so simple but somehow they made it extra yummy. Very cheesy. The blueberry pancakes melt in your mouth. Looking forward to doing breakfast again soon! Service is very friendly.

Have come here on several occasions over the years. I have always enjoyed my time here, and have never had bad service. Food is good, however pies are excellent and definitely the reason to stop in here. My wife loves the Shanty Pie which is Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Pie. We have gotten a few whole ones for her birthday in past years and it came with a can of whipped cream and cup of fudge. Return the tin it comes in and get some money back. Overall it is a great place to spoil the sweets craver in your life!

Every time we come to Cayucos, this a must stop for great food. My favorite is the Combo with fried shrimp, fish, Calamari, and Oyster with seasoned fries. Yummm

Since our first visit in town we’ve eaten here for all of our breakfasts. They have great food, friendly service and seating inside or outside. Highly recommend Sea Shanty for breakfast or lunch.

Ordered 2 egg breakfast with bacon. EVERYTHING was cooked perfect. Bacon = chewy and fully cooked, overeasy eggs = nice runny yolks but fully cooked whites, potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. The service was fantastic, i was seated quickly, laughed a bit with the waitresses, and even got a head nod from an owner. Maybe a little spendy for breakfast (about 20$ with coffee), but i feel like thats pretty standard for Cayucos.

It’s just a local spot. They always have coffee, the people are very, very friendly and the food is good enough. Not great but good enough. And they are fast and you can sit in a booth or you can sit on the patio. If you’re on the patio, you can have your dog with you. We love the sea shanty and come here often.

This is the place to eat in Cayucos! The food is wonderful, service exceptional and the desserts are amazing. We ate there four times and were always pleased with the experience. Even a takeaway lunch was a lovely presentation of a sandwich and fruit. Sea Shanty is locally owned, has heaters for outside patio, and a terrific chef and staff. We did wait for a table once, so I'd make reservationa in peak season.

Had great time. It is small and there is lots of overflow seating. When we went the staff was super busy taking care of the small dining room and side patio. We waited about 30 minutes for our table. The playground next door with the jail from 1847 where a good distraction for our toddlers.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. The service and the food was amazing. Lucas was such a pleasure to talk to and was very attentive to our needs. We especially appreciated the care we took with his trainees. The restaurant is cute and loved the story about the hats on the ceiling. I can’t wait to come back.

There were 2 servers for about 8 groups of 1-3 people. Our very first stop on our very first visit in Cayucos. Excellent service except we had to wait for them to switch over to lunch menu. The ceviche is fresh, clam chowder is so good and the popular fish and chips delivered. Rustic and nostalgic ambiance and garden alone is worth the visit. Definitely a stop when we visit again.

The place was clean and cute, very welcoming. We met a group for lunch. My husband had the prime rib sandwich with skin on potatoes. The horseradish was very tasty and the sandwich so good. I had the teriyaki Stix appetizer with rice. It was so tasty. If we hadn't been so full, they have a whole dessert menu! I will be back even if it's just for dessert.

We spent my birthday in town and had lunch at this cute spot. Everyone was very friendly, the service was prompt and the food was fresh and good. A must visit restaurant while in Morro Bay, very warm environment with lots of care put into the decorations and scenery. Great food and friendly service. There is outdoor seating with very warm space heaters. Parking is very spacious considering the area.

Enjoyed a great cheese burger the patty was seared crispy charbroiled onion rings and potatoes are good. mmm. We were plenty full yet we decided to take home some pie and cobbler. Stick to the ice cream desserts or other options. I realize fruits need to be in season to get the best result. It wasn’t horrible but not the best pie 🥧 peaches 🍑 apricots, especially at $15 a pop. Tgey could tween the recipe by adding more sugar and spices maybe. We will be back for prime rib dinner and some fish and chips.

Absolutely delicious and some of the best service I’ve had in a while! Came for breakfast and ordered scrambled egg whites with spinach and mushrooms. Nothing too special but it was delicious. Our server was very friendly and came to check on us and refill our drinks often. The dinning area isn’t super huge but there are places to eat outside and lots to look at when it comes to decor. Overall this was a great experience.

Heard from friends that it has great desserts so we went for dinner. Bring your appetite because this place did not disappoint. First off, the vibe when you first pull up and walk in is wonderful. Our waitress was the best; funny, witty, respectful, and gave us killer recommendations 😋 I got the burger with egg and bacon on it; delicious! It came with wedge fries (like most things did). One of my friends got the Club Sandwich - a popular choice and for good reason. The show didn't stop with dinner; their dessert menu was large and to die for. So many great options! I got a peach cobbler; one friend got a blackberry cobbler; another the chocolate mousse cake; and the other got the coconut "Wowie Maui" cake. Everything was top notch; the servers were great; I'm in a food coma now. 🍨

Recommended if you’re looking for a place to stop on your PCH drive. Wonderful small town restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Close to Highway 1 and the beach, ample parking, safe neighborhood, and wonderful service. SAFE seating! Plenty of outdoor seating with an ocean breeze crossing through the deck. They have heat lamps so you’re comfortable if you want to be safe and sit outside! Food style is American. They also specialize in steaks and seafood at night. The servers are very nice. They also have a small bar inside if you’re stopping for a drink. Highly recommended, especially if you’re passing through and want nice food, and a beautiful little village vibe.

Been visiting this place for a very long time and it’s still a good cozy & comfortable place to sit and enjoy the food with friends and loved ones. We had the Snapper tacos and NY Steak. Fun eclectic place with very friendly staff. There’s seating indoors and outside. The breading on the fried fish and chips was a little too oily for my taste, but overall food was good. They have a fair amount of options for land and seafood lovers.

The portion sizes are great for what you pay. They allow dogs on the patio and even provide separate blankets for the people and the pets if you get cold. They also have heaters on the patio. I loved the chilli cheese dog and the artichoke. I didn’t care for the cinnamon roll as it tasted more like a brown sugar roll and it actually hurt my teeth. Also don’t go for take out. They will tell you that you must wait to get your food till everyone else in the restaurant is served. The bathroom is also noteworthy

I'll start off with the cons. My party and I had to wait close to 30 minutes before our waitress took our order and despite walking passed us several times, she never came by to refill our drinks until we told her. I didn't care too much for my fish tacos. They were bland even with the salsa and sour cream. The pros is that my party loved their food. The location and atmosphere is great! I'd definitely come again to try something else off the menu.

Nov 2025 After sightseeing we had a craving for ice cream. We looked at a few places with no luck. So we decided why not Sea Shanty. To our surprise they had pies and ice cream desserts. Our favorite server Brian waited on us. I had the cow patty sundae. It was a huge serving of vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate cake, sliced bananas, strawberries, hot fudge caramel. The menu said it served six but Brian was so nice to make it a single serve. I will order this again. Hubby had the mudd pie. But he wished he had ordered my dessert instead. July 2025 We returned here because of their great customer service and great selections. We ordered lunch for take out. Wait was under 10 minutes for the meal. The patty melt on rye bread was delicious. The crab salad with avocado, egg, tomatoes snd thousand island dressing was yummy. We'll return here to try the other dishes. We dined here for lunch after reading the reviews. Great location across our lodging on Ocean Dr. There is parking on the street and on side street. Interior is very interesting. There are hundreds of hats on the ceiling and top walls. Outside seating is availble. We were seated right away. The atmosphere is cheery and fun. Our server Brian was excellent, extremely friendly, upbeat, and attentive. He stopped by several times to check on us. The clam chowder soup was good but little too peppery, more potatoes than clam. The grilled salmon tacos were very good. Hubby got the ahi tuna sandwich which was recommended by Brian over the crab melt. The thick slice of ahi tuna was seared perfectly with pink in the middle. The portion was so large hubby couldn't finish it. We asked Brian about their breakfast. He brought us the breakfast menu. We liked the selections so we returned the next morning for breakfast. Our server was very friendly and cheerful. I got the two egg, muffin, friut, potato breakfast. Hubby got the vegetable omelet. The portions were generous.

The food is exceptional! I got the shrimp & veggy omelette. The only turn off about the restaurant and the patio is that there are so many flies swarming. The seats were full on a weekday and that is a good sign.

But the food was delicious, cleaned my plate right off. A lot of compliments heard around the table. And the restaurant itself is such a nice spot with really cool decor. Definitely worth a visit.

Waitress said they were short staffed, food shortage due to trucker shortage, the hostess sat us and never told her we were there. We left her a great tip, even though we had to hear her story again, at every table. That being said, she had slipped check on our table when we ordered, with it all totalled out, no room for a possible dessert, but since she disappeared into kitchen ... I waited and realized ...she was the only one with a 5 table ( all at once) slam.

I got the Calamari which was a bit bland. My table got the "Apple Dumpling" which frankly looked really unappetizing. They said the apple inside was not cooked all the way and still hard. The ice cream that came on top of it was also quite hard. The clam chowder was alright. The decor was nice though and I give the staff major props since we were a group of 5 on the 4th of July. We had no wait, we were taken in very close to the service cutoff time. We also paid in separate checks (sorry). Although the food didn't blow me away, it came out quick.

Clam chowder was mediocre. Thought it would be better based on reviews. Not very well seasoned and not many chunks of clams. Service was fine but I really don't see how to tip well when you have to order your food, seat yourself and then clean your table when you are done. I actually hate this kind of service type restaurants... More fast food type than sit down and relaxing. Super disappointed.

Dined here on the recommendation of a friend here in San Diego. The service was lovely. The cafe was cute. But my "Oriental Chicken Salad" of iceberg lettuce topped with warm fajita-style vegetables and chicken bits was not what I expected. I ate it and paid for it, but I would ask a lot of questions before ordering anything besides a burger or fish and chips in the future.

The decor was very nice, and there were heaters outside to keep you warm on chilly days. The servers were also really nice! However, ONLY buy the seafood such as the clam chowder or fried fish; everything else sucks. The desserts were underwhelming, because while the ice cream part was good, and the actual pie/cake parts of the desserts had a bad texture and underwhelming taste. Again, cool place, but I don't recommend anything but the seafood.

Food was meh ($20 mediocre burgers). If you just happen to need a quick place to eat, it is fine. There are several other options nearby with better quality food. Decent food for decent prices. Poor customer service from 16 year olds running around. Nobody greeting customers, many workers hiding behind the bar, used to be a regular spot but will likely not return after this experience unfortunately

The older lady who came to take our order was nice until she realized we were only there to order dessert. She took all of our menus and walked away without saying anything. A few minutes later, a young man came over and took our order. He was polite, and did everything right. It would've probably been a 5 star experience if he would've greeted us from the beginning. She should stay home.

So I I’ve been coming here for over 10. I am pretty disappointed to be honest. The service has changed so much that and it is very disappointing. today I ordered my usual order where I generally ask for no fruit. There was only fruit then when I brought it back in and asked For the order to be corrected, the server put it in incorrectly again it had to be corrected. Then when I receive my meal, it still had fruit on it. what happened to the old Staff? Place was flawless for years.

Immediately regretted going there when my food arrived. Omelette had very little bacon and potatoes were cheap and fried.

My absolute favorite place, Sea Shanty...I moved here ten years ago and fell in love with their food, service, customers AND TODAY it all got flipped on me!! After we went to the car show my treat was a stop at Sea Shanty for a Strawberry Shortcake and Cookie Monster. I walked in, a few tables of scattered patrons but not at all busy and a full staff ready to help...just NOT ME....I was looked at, spoke politely to a young lady and told her what I needed to order. The young lady rolled her eyes and literally walked out the side of their building, never returning. I then was approached by a very nice young man that asked if I'd been helped. I told him what happened, plus my order. He also said, okay and walked away. The older haggerly looking woman made eye contact with me several times, continued walking by me, slamming doors, trays etc as I politely waited. Six various employees/owner continued to look at me, walk away from me and act as if I wasn't standing there. After approximately 15-20 minutes it occurred to me they were refusing to serve me. I said to the friendly young man, "Nobody's going to help me, are they? They're not going to let me eat here, are they?" He smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said, "ehh, uhh I don't know..." as he walked away. I turned around and looked at the few patrons sitting down to eat and was clearly given a couple glares. I stayed quiet and walked out. This won't make me stop wearing my FREEDOM sweatshirt...we're all free to do as we wish. They can treat me this way. I'll miss their great food and all the wonderful memories we've made there in the last ten years.
