We came as a group of 18 people, and we absolutely loved everything! The food was delicious, and the staff gave great recommendations for drinks. At our request, they arranged one big table instead of several smaller ones and even decorated it with fresh flowers. A special thanks to the manager,Tyler, who coordinated everything perfectly and made sure our evening went just the way we wanted. Highly recommend!

My wife and I had dinner here after our wedding. Our service was great and so was the food! Split the 36 OZ Porterhouse and Waygu Carpachio with my brother in-law, delicious! Thanks for a lovely meal on our wedding night.

Went for date night with my two sons on two separate dinner dates. Was a good experience with food and service.

We had a magical experience and wanted to say biggest THANK YOU to everyone involved. My in-laws were visiting us for the first time here in US all the way from Russia. Today was my father-in-law birthday, and Porter House made our experience so special, so warm and welcoming! Firstly, they seated us very conveniently with the kids in the small separate room, which was perfect for our family; secondly, we were greeted with the special birthday card, translated to Russian for the birthday man. Thirdly, the service was absolutely first class, caring, attentive and very classy. Our waiter - I am so sorry that I forgot your name, but he deserves separate appreciation! He made our evening absolutely the best and payed attention to even our youngest guests (thank you again for extra pineapple!). He gave us wonderful recommendations for every person’s taste, and the food was absolutely what you could expect from the quality steak house. Serving for starters and entrees was very elegant and combination of tastes transforms to a perfect harmony. Again - we have only the best impression, I want to thank again everyone who helped us make this evening so memorable for our visitors! And we definitely would come back there for any other evening, their cocktail list deserves separate visit as well as many other items in the menu!

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it was definitely TOP notch!! We were immediately greeted and seated promptly for our 7pm reservation. The customer service, drinks, food, and ambiance was amazing!! We started with drinks and I had a glass of Riesling (which was by far one of the best ones I have ever had in a restaurant) My boyfriend chose his signature drink a smoked old fashioned which he really enjoyed as well. For starters we had the mussels and shrimp appetizers to start. Both dishes were very flavorful, savory & well balanced with delicious sauces. My boyfriend enjoyed the surf & turf special with a side of mushrooms & onions. I had the chicken entree with broccolini and mashed potatoes in a mushroom gravy sauce. Both entrees were just as delicious as the appetizers!! This is definitely an upscale laid back restaurant with a nice vibe worth visiting. It is in a great and thriving location very close to my home (which I really love) Also, The valet parking is a nice touch! We thoroughly enjoyed our date night for his birthday and we will definitely be going back!! Ten out of ten!!

Porter’s is the perfect upscale restaurant for lovely cocktails at the bar while waiting for others to arrive and enjoy a delicious dining experience. Mouthwatering steaks and seafood (several of our party ordered scallops and raved about their choice) and family style sides that your entire party can share.

Attended a Basil Hayden bourbon dinner and everything was amazing. The menu had a variety of creative dishes perfectly paired with unique drinks from the bar. Service was awesome and the entire evening was very well done. Looking forward to future dinners.

My wife surprised me for my birthday with a dinner here. I have to start by saying that this was the best meal I’ve had at a restaurant in YEARS. Everything from the cocktails to the dessert at the end tastes great, and was unique to the restaurant. Being that it was a special occasion, I splurged and ordered the 75 day dry aged cowboy ribeye with the bone marrow truffle butter on top. It was in short, life altering! I’ve never had dry aged steak before this one, and now it’s going to be tough to go back to normal regular fancy steak. Had the truffle fries on the side which were the perfect side and the perfect snack for later. My wife had the scallops entree and she loved every bite. We enjoyed Mom’s cheesecake for dessert and took home the Oreo cheesecake as well. I really can’t wait to come back here. The pimento cheese beignets, heirloom tomato salad, even the “Secret Garden” cocktail, were “chef’s kiss” no pun intended.

A nice restaurant that is close by to where I live. I really enjoy the low light atmosphere and the decor that is here. The music that plays is subtle and does not take away from the eating experience. The food here is great; every time we go here we enjoy it, the service, and the experience. I would recommend the 8oz Wagyu Flat-Iron Steak as it has a great mix of vegetables and steak, the steak was quite soft and has a great amount of flavor. This time we had a server named Jacob who was exceptional. He has a very sharp eye and always checked on us if the food was good, putting away any plates, etc. They are very polite and always engaged with our table and the others that he serves as I observed. I would definitely have this server in the future when dining here at this restaurant. This restaurant is a good fine dining place that is located in the South Charlotte / Waverly area. I would recommend it to anyone who goes here.

Our first time dining at The Porter's House, but definitely not our last ... Atmosphere is casual elegance with white table cloths, our server, Angela, was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious and the cocktails were great! We had the filet, the black grouper and bacon risotto (so yummy!), and dessert - the brownie with icecream and the creme brulee. The cocktail menu is fun and delicious. (You Had Me at Hello, pictured) The Sea Board made a divine first impression, and we devoured it! The Porter's House may be my new favorite steak house in Charlotte! Will definitely be back!

The food was really good. The ambiance was wonderful. The service was top teir. I ordered the spare ribs and babyyyyy tender is an understatement. They were really good. The potatoes were amazing. Crab cakes AMAZING. My friends ordered the filet mignon, sautéed shrimp, the halibut fish, bone in pork chops, collard greens, Mac and cheese(no lobster) and a Cesar salad and they thought everything was good on their end as well. Iappreciate the option for valet parking as well. I'd definately come back. Thanks for a job well done❤️

*Excellent for large groups!* We had a company dinner gathering here and this team did an awesome job serving us quickly. Between the drink orders to the food orders everything was delivered with excellence. For my meal I selected the steak and it was fantastic. Over all whether you are looking for something more intimate or looking for a great place to gather with a large group The Porter’s House has you covered!

Early Valentines Dinner courtesy of the fiancé (he has to work on the 14th) - The Porters House in Waverly - great food, generous portions, fantastic service. We will definitely be back. Got there at 520pm for a 6pm reservation but they took us early. Not busy when we arrived but packed and people waiting outside when we left around 7pm. LOVED THE APPETIZERS!!! The pimento cheese beignets were beautifully, lightly crisp on the outside and a wonderful, molten lava of creamy pimento cheese inside. The calamari were strips versus rings or legs, we loved the texture and flavor, breaded and fried - very light garlic, caper sauce drizzled over the top. Wedge blue cheese ranch salad, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, mushrooms and onions as sides. Amazingly soft, light airy, rolls with garlic herb butter. Bone in 32 ounce Porterhouse for two, medium rare, with pickled veggies over a little bit of arugula. A slice of coconut cake to go. Truly excellent food, I like the mashed potatoes better at Dresslers, cream spinach wasn’t bad. Mushrooms and onions were my favorite side! Our steak was cooked, seasoned perfectly - excellent cut, lovely texture and the grilled outside had a great flavor. It comes with four sauces - my favorite was the horseradish which is very light, not strong. Followed by TPH Steak sauce. Not a fan of the chimichurri (love a good Colombian chimichurri!) and peppercorn cream (it was too sweet like caramel). The coconut cake was more of a dry cake versus cream but it was fantastic. Not overly sweet but very flavorful. Great place to walk around, we sat on a swinging chair and watched the kids play in an open area after our walk. Stopped in at Whole Foods after dinner for groceries (awesome trea leche and key lime pie at WF)! Worth the trip!!! We have two more John Dressler restaurants to try. Dogwood and Fin and Fino. Still love Dresslers best 😍 The staff are almost all long timers - one of the them has worked for Jon (Rare Roots Hospitality) for 15 years! He treats his staff very well and it shows in their service and teamwork.

The shareable steak is definitely enough for two or more people. The flavor is amazing. Every time we’ve gone all of the sides are perfect. We got the mashed potatoes, broccolini, and Mac. For starters we did the shrimp.

I had searched all over Ballantyne for a private dining room to host my 25th birthday in and I needed a room for 35 ppl. I finally found the porter house who offered me a wonderful deal on a beautiful room! I had never dined here so I had a few drinks and apps at the bar and decided it was amazing and would definitely host my party there. The dinner turned out to be amazing and super accommodating for my large party. We preset a great menu with steak, chicken, salmon, and other options. They also had everyone on separate tabs which was awesome they did that for us. The only thing was we ended up getting a different room than we thought we booked but it still worked out great! I can't wait to come back and try their standard menu. Also their waiters there are super helpful especially chris!!!

Porter’s is one of my go to places for great food and drinks in my neighborhood but this weekend they hosted a wedding for one of my friends and it turned out beyond wonderful. From the set up in the back room for a wedding to the bar area set up for dinner and drinks, I think they have something special here as a service to offer small groups to celebrate any occasion. We arrived at 2pm for the wedding ceremony and following they laid out a spread and presentation of food that was spectacular and delicious! Crab cakes and the tuna was my favorite but the guys raved over the steaks and lobster mac. All of it was delicious and looked beautiful. If I ever need to celebrate an event I know who I’m calling! The Dressler’s are the best restaurant owners in Charlotte and we all want to thank you for your continued service to our neighborhood here in Waverly!

Like any and all Rare Roots restaurant we visit this was five stars all around. We love to go out for a fancy dinner for occasions but hate when the food falls short of the price...that's never a concern with Rare Roots and proven true again at The Porter House, from hostess to John Dresslers himself, the service and atmosphere is a family experience that can't be replicated. The food, we had the pimento cheese beignets and they were excellent, I would say they are more of a fritter but the flavor was fantastic! My wife and I shared the shared porter House Steak which was cooked perfectly and the paired sauces were outstanding. I saw other reviews about a lack of seasoning but in my experience nothing beats a good salt and peppering on a fine steak and that's what you find here, the tender velvet feel of the steak is in my opinion how you know a steak is good. Finish off with any of "Mom's" desserts and your night is complete! Loved it!

Amazing experience! Service is great, food is excellent. Best browuny I've ever tried. Big and good choice of drinks. Carpaccio was fresh and delicious. Didn't expect greens in it, but it was good. Tuna was delicious!

We had an amazing time with my friends. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Our host, Jason, was exceptional and truly enhanced our visit with his attentive and knowledgeable service. His recommendations were spot-on, and he made us feel welcome and well-cared for throughout our meal. I highly recommend this restaurant for its excellent cuisine and outstanding service. We will definitely be returning!

We aren't steakhouse people, but we heard really good things about this place so we decided to check it out during restaurant week. My husband and I did one restaurant week menu and one a la carte. We started with the pimento cheese beignets and wedge salad. Both were fantastic. I'm not a salad person, but the wedge was really good. Next we got the heart of ribeye with a scallop add on, the clam and chorizo bucatini, and the lobster mac-n-cheese. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The scallops cut like butter. The bucatini was probably some of the best pasta I've had in Charlotte. I really enjoyed the lobster mac-n-cheese as well. Somewhere in the middle, you get complementary bread. The bread was good, but the butter it was served with was the star. We finished with a sweet potato pound cake and a toffee pound cake. The sweet potato pound cake was perfect with a delicious sauce. The toffee pound cake was dry and bland though. It was the only thing I was disappointed with. From the food to the service, we had a great meal and would definitely come back!

We had a party of 13! The server was extremely knowldegable and tried to be patient with us. It was very crowded the evening we went. The scallops were delicious and the charcuterie boards. All of us shared various sides and had different steaks. Highly recommend for special occasions.

Friends and I had a reservation for 8 pm. The table was ready as soon as we walked in. Our waitress took care of us right away. I had the 16oz NY Strip (medium well) with the mashed potatoes. Quite delicious! My drink of choice was the "You Had Me at Hello." Quite crisp and refreshing. Everything was perfect. I was so full that I declined dessert, but my friends had the cheesecake, and another had the creme brulee. Nothing but positive feedback. Thank you, guys!

We were celebrating my son‘s high school graduation. From the moment we walked in the staff was amazing our services was amazing the food was amazing. I can’t say enough what a great evening we had. To top off the celebration he got a brownie with ice cream.

The sauces for the steak were excellent in both bold flavors and satisfying color. The carrot cake was fine but I had envy for those enjoying the cheesecake. The salmon entree was flavored reasonably well and had a nice garnish. There was a negative experience with a server who shouted after being touched, the touch was to notify of a dangerously slippery spill. The servers rushed in and out so quickly it was hard to get a word in (such as there is a spill). This may have been an isolated incident but I am more inclined to carry out than dine in as a result. Nobody in my party was involved in that entire incident but it was so loud that everyone took notice.

We just had a party in the private dining space and it was amazing. The service was the best I have encountered in a long time. As the host, the staff checked on me multiple times to make sure everything was running smoothly. Tyler and Eddie took lead to ensure the night was a success. The food was great and service was superb. My guests keep commenting on how good the service and food were. They were extremely accommodating to letting us setup and get everything ready for our event. Thank you Porter's House for helping make our party a great success!

Jessica with Offline - The Porter’s House was impeccable from start to finish. The tuna tartare was tender and fresh, the salads were crisp and flavorful, and the steaks were perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. Even during Restaurant Week with a fixed menu, the staff was happy to accommodate substitutions, which was greatly appreciated. The chocolate cheesecake was light, soft, and delicious! We had an excellent ending to a fantastic dining experience.

We had our wedding dinner at the Porter’s House, and it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, the entire experience was seamless. Ally, our event coordinator, was incredible. She was so attentive, organized, and genuinely caring. A huge thank-you as well to the managers, Libby and Tyler, and our waiter, Eddie. Everyone we interacted with was so kind, welcoming, and full of positive energy. They made us and our guests feel truly special and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. The atmosphere, service, and attention to detail made our evening unforgettable. We’re so grateful for the care and thoughtfulness that went into every aspect of our night, and we can’t wait to return to the Porter’s House. We wholeheartedly recommend the Porter’s House for any special occasion. They will make it an evening you’ll cherish forever!

This weekend we had dinner at The Porter’s House and it was an absolute delight! The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable — perfect for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself to something extraordinary. We started with the Wagyu carpaccio, which was very good — though I would have loved the classic touch of shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, pine nuts, a drizzle of olive oil, and a hint of balsamic for that traditional Italian flair. Still, it was beautifully presented and fresh. Then came the highlight — the New York Strip steak — and it was truly exceptional! Perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and full of rich flavor, literally melting in the mouth. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had! The wine list is also impressive — an excellent international and US wine selection! Worth every penny — a top-tier dining experience that combines quality, elegance, and outstanding service. We’ll definitely be back!

We let them know it was our anniversary and they had a nice anniversary card at the table and rose petals. They also gave us a dessert free for our anniversary. Great place, great food, and wonderful staff.

The Porter's House is a very delicious restaurant and we've been multiple times. The menu is small but the food is generally executed well. Good size portions, however it is very pricey. The atmosphere is that of most upscale steakhouses; Low lights, calm music and attentive staff. The cocktail menu is impressive. The wine flights are a really cool concept. The restaurant also features some really cool events. We've done a private Bourbon tasting here before and really enjoyed the experience. So why 4-stars instead of 5? We realized halfway through our meal every other table was being brought complimentary bread. We however were never offered this. The braised short rib was tasty however its a favorite we order often and expect it to be fall off the bone soft. For us, excuse the pun but the short rib fell...short.

The Porter's House is a great place for a date night. The vibes are really cool. The staff are all amazing, from the greeters at the front door to the wait staff. Each one was so attentive and genuinely cared about us. We made a reservation and showed up a little bit early and tables were available. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted in the bar area, so my wife and I chose a table against the wall. The person who brought our menus over next said we looked a little cramped and wouldn't we want to sit in a more open table instead? Yes we would, thank you! Because of that little bit of paying attention, we had a much more comfortable meal. Our waiter was incredible with the way he described the food on the menu to the way he poured the wine at our table. He was a bright highlight of the evening. The Porter's House is a steak house. For some reason, my wife and I both went with seafood. In retrospect, that was a mistake, as we should have stuck with what the restaurant is known for. I started with a tomato and mozzarella salad, which was quite tasty and fresh. I liked it best of all the food I had. For my main course, I ordered salmon over risotto. The risotto was bland and under seasoned and not very flavorful. The salmon was fine. It was cooked properly and tasted like salmon. But nothing about it stood out or made me think I would order it again. To share, my wife and I ordered the Brussels sprouts. They were cooked okay and were drizzled with a balsamic glaze. But the sprouts just didn't have a lot going for them. Maybe they were baked in the oven and therefore no charring took place to enhance the flavor or texture? Not sure. But we both agreed that something was lacking in these sprouts. Other restaurants in the area do phenomenal jobs with their Brussels sprouts. I wouldn't recommend them at The Porter's House. Will we give this place a try again? Definitely. The staff was too good and there is too much promise in the items on the menu that are in the restaurant's wheelhouse. The food was disappointing during this visit, yes. But everything else about The Porter's House screams greatness. We'll just have to remember next time that when going to a steakhouse to order the steak.

The food was amazing but the service was lackluster at best. We sat at the bar and Lindsey (who was working the well) ignored us for the entire time. I have worked in upscale restaurants for years and have never seen anything like it. She would talk to regulars around us but I sat with an empty drink for long periods of time and she never made eye contact or tried to talk to us. We finally decided to interrupt and ask her to order our dessert as we sat there waiting for over 15 minutes to be acknowledged and the other bartender was way busier. Now during this time she just chatted with staff, regulars and and focused on only two tickets in the well, so when she was dismissive and did not know what they had for dessert I decided I had to write a review. The sad part is we were honoring the passing of a dear friend that we worked in restaurants with for years. We had every intention of over tipping and spending way more than we did. What a loss.

I had a pleasant experience at The Porter's House and the Service was top-notch! We ordered all three courses. The appetizers were Crab Cakes, Pimento Cheese Beignets, and Oysters Rockefeller. Crab cakes were small but very tasty. Pimento Cheese Beignets were really good and probably my favorite out of the three mentioned. Finally, Oysters Rockefeller was ok, but I’m not into oysters and my friends were not excited about them. Dinner rolls were pretty good also, but nothing special. For the entrees, we got Prime KC Strip, Prime Ribeye, and more Crab Cakes. Both steaks were good. They offer dipping sauces which did enhance the taste, but the steaks were average. For the sides, we got the Asparagus, Lobster Mac and Cheese, and Potato Au Gratin. I didn’t try the asparagus, but the mac and cheese were good. The potatoes were ok as well. Finally, the desserts! It was my birthday so I got a special treat, but my friends and I got the dessert board which included Plain Cheesecake, Fudge Brownie with Ice Cream, Carrot Cake, and Chocolate Cake. And for my birthday treat, I had the Chocolate Cheesecake. The brownie was probably the best, followed by both cheesecakes. the carrot cake was very good also. As far as the chocolate cake, it was just ok. I think it was a little too cold and didn’t hit as expected. Overall, it was a great experience. The highlight was most definitely the desserts. They exceeded my expectations. If I were to go back, it would be most likely for the service and those desserts :-).

The service is phenomenal there. We went as soon as they opened. There was plenty of seating though my reservation would not allow me to reserve anything besides a high top. The steak, shrimp cocktail, potatoes, and Caesar salad was delicious. The sauce with the entree was not the best.

They have a very modern, upscale atmosphere with an open kitchen. The decor and furnishings are really done in style. The menu is really small, just a little too much IMO. I actually like small menus so as not to be overwhelmed, but I feel they could add a few more items in this case. They do not have any soups on their menu - that was really disappointing to me. I love a good soup in a high quality restaurant. Cocktail menu is creative, but Like most, $12-$16 per drink with very little alcohol. The quality of the food was excellent. It’s clear that they use fresh, top notch ingredients.

First time dining here and the food was delicious although it came out not as hot as it should have. The filet was perfectly cooked and no gristle in the meat at all. Service was outstanding. Attentive without being overwhelming. The atmosphere was severely lacking however. Spent the entire evening looking at cardboard boxes and green plastic shelves in the kitchen. Looked like a garage rather than a nice view. Would recommend moving the boxes or storing them within nice cabinet storage that would be visible. They really are an eyesore and I’m not sure how that can be sanitary. While I can appreciate the open concept kitchen at restaurants, the owner needs to be cognizant of what the patrons are seeing.

Good steak, flavorful sauces. Great sides. Only miss? The bread at the beginning was dry and stale. Server agreed. Not the best way to start off the meal. Appreciate mask wearing mandates.

FES up: F(ood): Very good food. We started with the pimento cheese beignets. They were good and gooey inside. I wouldn’t call them beignets but good nonetheless. I got the sirloin and fries entree. Great sear and seasoning on the steak and great herb butter. Fries crispy! The side ‘salad’ wasn’t so great- maybe it was lore of a garnish with some spring mix and peppers. Clam and chorizo bucatini one of best dishes! Big in flavor and clams large!! I wasn’t a huge fan of the Creme brûlée - I like a bit more of a sugar crust on top (enough to gently tap and it break) and the warm top half of it and the cool bottom half was a temperature conundrum. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ E(nvironment): I love this Waverly area! We were able to park right on the street even though valet available. Great atmosphere with dim lighting and a cool bar right past hostess stand. There was a private room option. We sat at a table for two right by the window. I liked the old knives and black and white pictures- very steakhouse appropriate. You can see kitchen from seating which I like. Acoustics not great in dining room- heard multiple conversations from tables around us which got a little annoying. (People- don’t play YouTube videos on loud volume at a restaurant!)⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ S(ervice): met with a friendly greeting and smile from hostess and immediately sat. Server very cognizant on menu and helpful in choices. When asked ‘What is a porter?’ He knew and with great detail which shows the respect and knowledge the employees have for the restaurant. A slight mishap with ordering was rectified quickly and to our advantage. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very serviceable steakhouse. Please try the sausage platter. The ribeye was cooked to order perfectly and the sides we’re mostly good. Cream spinach was meh.

4.7 would be a more accurate rating. We had a reservation for 10 people at 8:15. We arrived about 10 minutes late and the restaurant closes at 9. The staff still did an amazing job to make sure we enjoyed our experience. They were patient with us and attentive. The shareable sides were fantastic! Mash potatoes great, mac n cheese great, carrots fantastic! I ordered my steak medium but got it medium rare and that was my second steak as the chef was not happy with the first one I was told. Although it was not my preferred temperature, it was still absolutely delicious! And the truffle butter, to die for!!!! Deserts, drinks, on point. My mother had the salmon and she loved it. It is not often that a whole party this large all enjoys their meals. I will definitely come back again!!!

My fiancé and I came here for Valentine's Day, we had a reservation at 7PM. Service, top notch. Waters constantly filled, plates were cleared timely, and Edie was an absolute delight. She has a wonderful presence; attentive, informative, friendly, and very professional. We had the pimento crostini's appetizer to start from their holiday menu, they were ok. We were not super impressed in the size and taste of the app. I then ordered the Alaskan halibut, he had the braised short rib, and we both loved those. We also ordered the mac & cheese (delicious) and the asparagus (little over cooked and hard to chew) sides. Finished with the fantastic carrot cake - amazing. Overall, we will be back. The entire staff works as a team to consistently make sure you are taken care of, and I love that. The ambiance was on point, and it made for a beautiful, romantic Valentine's Day evening.

For my review, everything is based on the service for New Years Eve. To start off the most important thing being the food, I got to try various dishes on the menu. I really enjoyed the pimento cheese beignets. They were almost like macaroni balls. There was a bacon aloi, but I would have appreciated a more substantial sauce. I ordered the steak frites for my entree. I enjoyed the cut of steak, it was a little on the tough side, but that can be expected for the dish. The fries were fine. I did order 3 additional sides. I had the potatoes au gratin, creamed spinach, and asparagus. They were all good. I would say in general the food was not as seasoned as I would have expected. The service overall was fine, nothing amazing. I am glad I had made a reservation and was seated promptly upon arrival. It did take a very long time for everything due to the large amount of customers that night. I timed it at 1 hour from sitting down to getting our entrees. I did appreciate the rolls that were given but I was never offered anymore. One highlight was the water. My glass was always filled, which I appreciated. I also liked how my remaining food was boxed up for me. Regarding the atmosphere, the restaurant itself is very nice, I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant. A little more light would have been nice to see better. Not to be too picky but the tablecloth on my table at least was way too big for the table and it was annoying as it always caught in my legs. Also, everyone in my party noticed that the knives given for the entree course were very dull. We were all struggling to cut our meat. They definitely need to sharpen them. Lastly, as other reviews have noted, the restaurant is very loud. It was hard to hear everyone at my table. The restaurant needs to examine the acoustics and add decorative sound panels to enhance the experience. Looking at the whole picture, everything was good but not great. Again, I do understand that it was New Year’s Eve and a lot was going on. However, this is a fine restaurant. I do wish to return at a different time and I think the experience will match the reputation of the restaurant.

Atmosphere and service were top notch, drinks were excellent, and dessert was delicious. But the rest was very disappointing for the price. Both the Prime NY Strip steak and the Prime Ribeye steak were chewy. I have never had such chewy/tough prime steaks as these. At least they were cooked correctly (medium rare and medium), so it wasn't an "overcooked" issue. The pimento cheese beignets were basically hush puppies filled with the cheese sauce from a box of Mac & cheese - the sauce was incredibly viscous and did not give pimento cheese vibes at all. The roasted fingerling potatoes were not crispy at all, and incredibly bland. And the asparagus were extremely woody, not tender at all. (They were all very thin, which means they came from older asparagus plants, because younger plants produce thicker and more tender asparagus.) All in all, $$$ later, we made the most of our evening, but we both agreed that we would not be returning for anything except drinks and dessert in the future.

The service was satisfactory, but not exceptional. The food was of average quality. While the appetizers were not particularly noteworthy, the main courses were acceptable. Overall, this establishment would be a suitable choice for business dinners. However, it may not be the most romantic setting for a romantic date.

I am very picky when it comes to Steak Houses, so I am basing this number on the “steak experience”. I’ll start off with my cocktail. I was drinking their take on an Old Fashioned. It had Makers in it - one of my favorites. I would say the drink was average. It wasn’t too sweet. Would I order it again? Yes Next up - appetizers. The table ordered the pimento cheese beignets and wedge salads. Both were very very good! The beignets were perfectly cooked and cheesy. The wedge salad is what it is, but the dressing and bacon bits made it for me. Next up- entree. Here was the biggest disappointment. We were oversold on the 36oz porter house. The cost went up to $115 from previous menus posted. Here is the issue with the porter. It doesn’t feed 3 people that really like steak. In fact, it wouldn’t have fed me and my buddy. We can eat a lot of steak. It was cooked to order - medium. The sauces were just ok. I am a filet guy, and it was good but I’ve had better. We should have stuck with ordering on our own. Last up - dessert. I tried the seasonal cheesecake which was chocolate, and the creme brûlée. Both were magnificent! Go with the chocolate cheesecake. Will I go back? Yes — I will give it another shot and order on my own next time. Maybe the score will go up.

My boyfriend and I dined here last night for a fancy Valentine’s Day date. Overall, I would rate the restaurant a 3.5, with most of the points being knocked off for the service. We started with the crostini pimento cheese appetizer, which was three tiny pieces of bread with cheese on them for $10. Both my boyfriend and I agreed that for the price, it was not worth it. Especially since it was on the Valentine’s Day menu, it should be an even number so the couple could share it evenly. Next up, we when previewing the drink menu, I had a few questions about two drinks that sounded similar. I asked our server (a young male), if he could describe the flavor profile of each and differentiate, and he couldn’t. All he told me was that he named the Led Zeppelin drinks, and said which one was more popular. If you named the drink, why don’t you know the flavor profile? I was expecting much more out of the server with answering our questions and he fell shy. His overall service was dry and left a bad taste in my mouth. For a nice restaurant, I would expect a seasoned server who can spark up a great conversation, but he seemed very disinterested and did not meet my expectations. Anyway, the main entrees (surf and turf) were very good and met our expectations. If we do go back, I am hoping for a server who is interested in the well being of their tables. I also noticed the owner seems to only respond to “5-star” reviews, so I hope he will read this feedback.

I’ve been to this restaurant several times, often around holidays, and love most of the Rare Roots restaurants (Chapter 6 catered my wedding). Candidly, The Porter’s House has really dropped off in terms of food quality and preparation. When I pay $50-$70 for a steak, I expect a really good piece of meat cooked perfectly to the temperature requested. They were 0 from 3 for the steaks served at my table on Saturday. The meat was tough and they were all overcooked. We ate most of it because our server wasn’t coming back to check on things and we really didn’t want to wait for them to try again. Also, I suspect if three out of three steaks served to us were low quality cuts, the next three they served would’ve been the same. I provided this feedback and the manager came and spoke to us, a little condescendingly, if I’m being honest, like he was suspicious that I just wanted a free meal (I didn’t). He volunteered a discount and free dessert, which was fine. I think I’m just disappointed…I really expect better from Rare Roots and just wanted a great steak and glass of red. It’s highly unlikely we’ll ever go back there again.

This was my first time coming here and I didn’t appreciate the bar staff not checking in and asking if I needed anything but I noticed how they checked in everyone else . Even allowed the man sitting beside me to order dinner before me. It took them about 15 minutes to ask me what I wanted to drink . I even had to ask for a straw for my water. When I finally had to ask hey can I order dinner . She took my order and brought out my dining mat and basically didn’t set up my place mat just threw it down this is supposed to be a steakhouse this is unacceptable
