I really love a “good” Sunday Roast, I used to look at roasts in the Elite Bistro family and think over priced, and not good value for money, however visiting their new pub, my perception is changed, service is excellent, food very good, and my perception about value for money is blown out of the water, fantastic food, decent portion size, and real pub prices for the beer, it’s highly recommended, we’ll be back 👍🏻
Really great family oriented pub, the new owners are working hard to give this place a new life, and succeeding. The London pride and 6X beers are well cared for, as well as a selection of other beers, ciders and Gins. The menu is varied and good portions to cater for all...picture of my very large locally sourced burger, nom nom. The car park allows campers to stay as long as you eat and drink in the pub, what a refreshing change to see positive change and happy smiles from the staff and owners Jackie and Dave, good luck to the whole team ❤👌👍🤞
We love Kala Bistro and this has been on my wishlist for a visit and it didn't disappoint the food was absolutely amazing we had:- Smoked mackerel pâté pickles, sourdough toast Creamy garlic field mushrooms on sourdough toast with a poached egg Chicken, mushroom and tarragon pie creamed potatoes, confit leek, pickled shallots Smoked fish pie long stem broccoli, triple cooked chips, parsley sauce Warm lemon and syrup pudding vanilla ice cream, double cream Coconut & vanilla rice pudding rum-poached pineapple, toasted coconut and lime We will definitely be coming back 🫶🏼
Went to the White Horse for one of the Guest Chef Series nights and it was amazing. It did not disappoint. Friendly welcome on arrival, lovely room for eating, service was excellent and the food was beyond divine. For the experience, I thought the price was very reasonable. I would recommend and will be looking to go back and do another!
First trip to the refurbished White Horse by the Elite Bistros team. Lovely refurbishment job, good selection of drinks, staff were great, and the food was even better. Started with arancini, fried chicken, and olives. All were excellent. For mains we had the curried lamb pie (exquisite) and the whole Plaice (beautifully delicate). Finally, had to sample the chocolate oblivion to finish. Will be back again soon, highly recommend.
Absolutely lovely meal here for my wife's Birthday. The food was incredible, the drinks excellent and the staff were soo friendly and chatty. I had the chargrilled pork chop, not one I'd usually go for, but I wasn't disappointed. The meat was chargrilled to perfection, so tender, melt in the mouth. The black pudding and salsa verde a perfect accompaniment. For desert I had sticky toffee pudding and washed it down with a dram of Dalmore 12 years old, a match made in heaven. Highly recommend the White Horse, we will be back again before long. Thank you for the great service
The same great waiter as last time. Menu was slightly different, but again another fabulous meal. 31/10/25 - the waitress did a great job considering she was on her own for the majority of our visit and it was a lot busier than I suspect they were expecting. Towards the end she was joined by the waiter we have had before. The food was fabulous starters being a tasty crispy terrine of pig's head (which turned out to be deep fried in breadcrumbs) and a fried goats cheese, both delicious. Mains were my fish and chips, which is a go to if there is too much choice to be made, and a chicken supreme, again fabulous.
Absolutely top notch Sunday roast. Full of flavour, the beef was tender, the roasties equally tasty and ofcourse the yorkie completes it with class. The starter special of Mackerel was superb too. The team really are great and do go out of their way to look after you and make it a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Our server was James, what a expert in hospitality he was. He knew exactly how to cater to us. Made the experience so much more enjoyable. Food was exceptional. Service superb. Beer was great too! We will return.
Booked for my mums 75th birthday. Food was amazing but the stand out for us was the welcome and service! The whole team were amazing and really elevated the whole experience! Have to give a shout to James - he was so helpful on the phone when I booked, remembered talking to me and was an absolute joy from the moment we entered to the moment we left. Highly recommend one of the home made pies, best pie I’ve eaten and the sauce with it was sublime!
An example of how to deliver excellent food consistently. Pies are to die for, scotch egg immense and service always impeccable. Give me a shortbread with my creme brûlée and it’d be perfection! Thank you!
Beautiful pub and the server was fabulous! Food was amazing and service was impeccable. We went there on my birthday and they made us feel so welcome!
Great food , fabulous staff, especially the Manager and a really great Irish Coffee! We will definitely be back!
Had one of their guest chef meals with the new head chef from Wreck. All 5 courses were sublime with flavour in abundance. Presentation was perfect as was the service. I added the wine flight to my meal and all four wines were well matched to the food. Anton is showcasing the same menu at Wreck in Liverpool for Valentines Day. If that's your thing, go for it. You will love it.
What a great place for "Sunday Lunch" but in the evening. Based on the time we expected some things to have sold out so not an issue especially when what we did order came out. Absolutely fantastic food. My suggestion is book way in advance and go for Sunday Lunch. We were a party of 4 and all had different starters. Fantastic food. We will be going back to try the menu again. Follow them online as they have guest chefs. Highly recommend as it's quality food at a very reasonable price
This place is beyond good. 2 courses for £22 and you only have to see the guest chef list to see the company they keep. Amazing find!
What a great gastro pub! Amazing food in such a nice environment. Very good vegetarian options
Great pub quiz on Wednesday in a lovely pub setting with the fires going. Excellent, friendly service from the staff. Burger was fantastic 🍔
Fabulous place for a casual lunch or a more formal dinner with one of their amazing guest chef nights.
Very friendly, staff great, food superb. Will definitely be visiting again. Dog friendly. Nice outside areas and easy parking.
Delicious birthday lunch at the White Horse - every dish was packed full of flavour and beautifully cooked, even the deep fried pickles which are a must try! Two roaring fires and the staff were all friendly and helpful too. We can't wait to return!
Great place , stopped on our Thursday night bike night , quick service , nice atmosphere and good food, not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either, good quality..
Enjoyed a lovely lunch. One of our party has additional needs and the staff could not have been kinder. We all enjoyed splendid food in a warm atmosphere. 2 plates for £20 is great value.
This is a great pub with a fantastic very varied menu that is always cooked & served to perfection. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. Terrific value for money. Thank you for a great Christmas lunch.
A wonderful pub/restaurant. Me and my girlfriend visited on valentines day and we're welcomed by two roaring fires and a friendly smile behind the bar. The decor was lovely and it was a very inviting atmosphere. We ordered from a pre set valentine menu. The charcuterie board and chateaubriand were excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. We got great value for money and will be going back. It was recommended to us and I'd recommend it to others.
Lovely family meal out.. Staff very welcoming, friendly and highly professional without being atall stuffy. Lovely ambience, food top notch, as you would expect and reasonable prices if taking all of the above into account
What a find. Incredible value given the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen. In the lovely village of Churton outside Chester. Hunt this place down if you are visiting the area. They have this brilliant idea of having guest chefs take up residence for a short while and cook for those lucky enough to get a table. The list from last year and this coming year reads like a who,s who of culinary royalty in the UK. Great beers too!!
We stayed in Cheshire whilst visiting relatives. Needed to escape the rather bland food at our hotel and discovered The White Horse in Churton. What a result! Had an amazing Aubergine Curry, absolutely out of this world delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly. Best English pub we have been to in a while! Highly recommend.
This was our first visit but will not be our last. The service was relaxed friendly and very professional. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. The food was excellent with a good choice of freshly cooked food. Definitely recommend the venue to anyone who enjoys good food and excellent service
Had a wonderful meal here with friends. All the food was delicious, with special shout outs to the scotch egg and the cod loin. Really lovely personable service too. We were really impressed that they overheard us talking about it being on our birthdays the next day, so gave her a little honeycomb treat on the house. Will definitely be back :)
Popped in for lunch as we were just passing. James was very welcoming, attentive and friendly. I only had a Caesar salad but it was well presented and very tasty.
Popped in on the off chance they had any sunday roasts left...luckily for us they did. We shared the hot wings with pickled celery ..amazing. For mains i had roast beef and my wife had the cheese pie...amazing For desserts we had bread and butter pudding with white chocolate and raspberry..amazing The service and food timings were impeccable.. This place is a hidden gem
A lazy Monday evening spent dining at The White Horse, Churton. Second visit to the pub after the first lunchtime experience being fabulous also. Evening dining didn’t disappoint. The dog and I shared whitebait whilst we waited for hubby to arrive. I opted for several small plates whilst hubby went for fish and chips. Everything was served hot and quickly and nothing out of place. Even went above and beyond to make me some garlic butter and make us both an affogatto for dessert! Great selection of wines including dessert wines for the sweeter palate. A few local cask ales available that are well kept. 10/10 on the score card for a lovely relaxed evening meal with fantastic service and top notch food. Very reasonable prices for the quality. A must visit. We will return.
Great time here. Very welcoming, great decor inside. The main menu didn’t have a huge amount to choose from, there were some classics missing which I thought may have been on. Service was perfect, desert menu was also amazing, coconut rice pudding is a must. :) cheesy chips were very disappointing, more chips than cheesy!
What a difference the refurbishment has made. If you venture in, you won't be disappointed. The staff were amazing last night, perfect amount of engagement, and judging when to leave us to talk. The food is majorly tasty and was spot on for me. However my partner only had one choice in the main courses as a vegetarian, good job she likes cauliflower and didn't mind quite how spicy it was, this is the reason it drops to four stars. An extra vegetarian/ vegan option in the mains that isn't a standard mushroom or stuffed pepper and this place will absolutely be my go to. Congrats team well done.
Cheery welcome. Friendly attentive team and smiley service. Good choice of food and drinks on the whole menu from nibbles to desserts. Tasty gastro pub food.
I know loads of celebrity chefs have visited but humm. The starters were praised by all our group, mackerel pate,(the pickled radish were sparse but amazing) roasted beetroot salad, cod pieces. Excellent. Two of us had pulled lamb flatbread. Both had same opinion, tasteless. The meat could have been infused with some kind of seasoning, not left bland, hoping the dressing would do all the work, which it didn't. Ham glazed ham had no pineapple. But huge portion of fish and chips. It was ok. Not really a gastro pub. Just another pub that sells a bit better than ok food.
I wanted to be able to give The White Horse 5 stars based on the great selection of thirst quenching ales, the ambience, friendly staff and service. The olives, frickles, rosemary and chilli salt chips, as well as the Chocolate Oblivion dessert were all lovely, as we expected given Burnt Truffle in Wirral is within the same umbrella of restaurants. Unfortunately, the steak we both had was very chewy and lacking in flavour. We let the waitress know when asked how our meal was and the restaurant dealt with it very well offering us a fresh main and complementary dessert. Maybe we were just unlucky with the cut of meat when we tried the steak, given how nice the rest of the food was and other people's reviews.
We booked a Sunday lunch table here. We chose to move from our allocated table (noisy children nearby) to the only available bar table. This turned out to be a bad decision on our part, as it was too cold, despite the open fire. Overall the food was OK, but "elite bistro" would seem to be a stretch. Our main courses - steak frites and chicken supreme - were tasty and well cooked, but the portions were somewhat mean. A single decorative half leek with the chicken for example, while the promised burnt lemon was also all but absent. The sticky toffee pudding on the menu was annoyingly not available and replaced by a rather dry banana loaf, served with a teaspoonful of sauce - disappointing all round. I had the £7 ice cream served in a small bar glass - good, but ridiculously over-priced. Speaking of bar glasses, if you aspire to "elite" status, then you need to upgrade your soft drink glassware to a level beyond that available in Wetherspoons. Service was OK and the final bill of £75, including an automatic 10% service charge, was fair enough, although this post COVID trend of restaurants automatically applying a service change is lamentable. Neither of us had an alcoholic drink on this occasion, so cannot comment on the beer or wine. Other reviews suggest we may have been unlucky during our visit, so will try again later in the future.
Booked days in advance yet when we arrived the waitress immediately tried to fob us off to a table in the bar, it wouldn't have been too bad but there were a number of cyclists in making a fair bit of noise, fair enough it is a bar room, okay for a bar snack but not what we were expecting, we managed to negotiate that hurdle and were shown to a table and given menus, I asked if the bacon starter was smoked, I was assured it wasn't so I ordered it, my partner ordered whitebait, the starters arrived and the bacon was VERY smoked, I pointed this out and the waitress didn't seem too bothered, not wanting to make a fuss we swapped starters. The mains were good, I had tandoori style chicken, my partner had peri peri, I think the peri peri had the edge! The desserts were also good, I had custard and rhubarb tart which was good although the base was very very hard, my partner had rice pudding which was good. I'm still trying to figure out why they tried to seat us in the bar, the restaurant never filled up all evening and there were spare tables? I don't think we'll be going back.
