We were at Southbank Park visiting the marina - a little bit out of the way. Google found us this restaurant a few blocks away. It’s a fairly small place tucked away in a corner - luckily we could smell the aroma from a block away. They had us at “lunch buffet” 🤗. It was uncrowded and quiet around noon. For a small restaurant the buffet choices were excellent. Everything was delicious. I loved the Mango Shake. My companions also loved the mango pudding but it was too sweet for my taste. I’m giving the restaurant 3 stars for atmosphere, not because I didn’t like it but it’s just a basic place, nothing fancy.

Everything from the food, the service, the atmosphere. All of it was TOP tier. Never seen such a peaceful, and beautifully decorated restaurant. The paintings, the tables and their arrangement all beautifully done. The owner is an amazing, sweet, and kind man. Running the business for 20 years, they work hard for sure! And back to the food? AMAZING!!!! I’m in absolute awe and will definitely come back anytime I’m in Chicago.

I didn’t wanna go because I thought the pictures from other reviews didn’t look very appetizing .. but my friends insisted and so we went for the buffet and it was really delicious. Plenty to choose from. That’s why I’m uploading pictures.

Curry house sound very fancy, most especially for me since I have not have Indian food for almost two years. Within walking distance so yeah!!! Here I come! Guess what … they got Palak Paneer!!! BINGO … jackpot! The buffet is a bit overwhelming… but I missed the flavors and I found it here @Chicago Curry House!!! Thank You

Went for restaurant week with the homies. Big portions great price and excellent flavor. I want to take a day off work just to try everything the buffet has to offer 😆😆😆😆😆

Chicago Curry House is one of those places where you can immediately tell the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing. The curry is excellent — rich, deeply spiced, and balanced without being overwhelming. Every bite tastes intentional, not rushed or watered down. The sauces are bold and comforting at the same time, the kind that make you slow down and actually enjoy the meal instead of just eating to be full. What really stood out to me, though, were the chickpeas. They’re cooked perfectly — soft, flavorful, and fully infused with the spices rather than just sitting in the sauce. They don’t feel like an afterthought or filler; they’re a highlight. If you like chickpea-based dishes, this place absolutely delivers. The food feels hearty, satisfying, and made with care. Whether you’re already a fan of Indian cuisine or trying it more seriously for the first time, Chicago Curry House is the kind of spot that reminds you why curry is so loved in the first place. Highly recommended for anyone who wants great curry and genuinely well-prepared vegetarian options — especially anything with chickpeas.

I’ve been to a lot of indian resto. this one top my list now. food was great specially the buffet. lots of choices. place was clean. Bala is very accommodating. will come back again!

Delicious meal from an extensive menu. Ordered Chicken Makhani (butter chicken) and was thrilled that it was thigh and moist/tender. Also ordered Mutter Paneer and Chili Naan. Wished was a little spicier (ordered medium and was mild) but wonderful, complex flavors.

I visited during Restaurant Week and thoroughly enjoyed every dish. I had a little of everything. The owner was very polite, hospitable, and provided excellent customer service.

The food was really good. It's pretty decent buffet for that price. They'll have the buffet option every day and the menu is very good. I liked the taste of food. It is not so spicy and not so bland. The food is up to the mark.

The food was delicious! The owner served us and was very kind and attentive. We did the lunch buffet and were encouraged to try everything. The mango pudding was absolutely phenomenal, some of the best I've had in a long time. Would highly recommend.

Great place to have authentic Indian Nepalese food. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday brunch. Priced at 23 $ including tax and 18% service charge. The place is at a very good location in the loop. Interiors are welcoming. Food spread is good and the goat curry today was my favourite. Service is prompt and friendly. They could add a few more dishes to the buffet and ensure the tandoori chicken is more tender . 9.5/10 for this place

Great experience and wonderful food. All the meat was tender and tons of flavor. We got level 8 spicy and was perfect. The chicken Momo's where so good and the sauce that comes with them was delicious!

I love Indian food and this spot is so so good! Great service and it’s high quality at a good price.

One of the best places to stop by if you love authentic Nepali and Indian cuisine. The buffet is the Best. I love the taste of food, gesture and friendliness of staff, cleanliness, perfect location, walkable in downtown, have it's own parking lot, and even if you are late they have pickups available. Would say must go for a bunch 🙂

Food really good! They were extremely accommodating to our food orders and our group size. The customer service was the best I’ve ever experienced! Our waitress was so nice! The owner gave us a free dessert for my friend’s bday! I will be recommending this place to all my friends and family! Such a great time! I’m truly grateful for my dining experience! Prices were reasonable! I ordered Tandoori chicken, cooked well and flavorful. A Long Island and some short of chicken dumplings that we got spicy!

A full buffet of delicious food, hot and very flavorful, I normally stay away from the over powering taste of Indian food, but this place is a 10/10 a must try and hidden gem in the city.

A
Alexa Ramirez

Food was nice and so was service they were very attentive without being overbearing. Food is delicious but comes in big portions so you don’t have to worry about portions sized being, you’ll get what you paid for. Recommend coming here with good company and large friend groups as the restaurant is the very welcoming.

The BEST Indian Buffet I've ever been to. Flavor. Quality. Variety. You can find the ulitmate lunch buffet trifecta you've been searching for here 🥹 Came here early on a Sunday before the Bears game to get some grub before I spent my afternoon on $15 tall boys. Walked in with no expectations and was immediately impressed with the buffet. A plethora of options, ranging from tandoori chicken to goat curry to samosas to all the other foods I don't know by name. There was not a SINGLE dish that wasn't fresh, full of flavor, and delicious. (I tried all of em). The owner was super attentive, kind, and genuinely a great man. He explained thru our conversations with him how he provides support for his country (Nepal) and will at times work with the consulate in DC. There's a reason this place has been open for over 19 years - they do things the right way and it shows in their food. My only regret is that I didn't have a bigger stomach, otherwise I'd have gone for 4 plates! An awesome experience, that leaves me wanting to return. Amazing to think I had found this place by chance.. or rather it was the one that found me... 🫶

Fantastic food! Came here for the lunch buffet on a weekday--they had it on the weekends, but just started doing it all week. Excellent variety, with many options for vegetarian dishes as well as a good selection of proteins (four different meat dishes!) Decently priced for an AYCE buffet! Would definitely come back. Cheers!

M
Michael Chang

The weekend lunch buffet can carry on its variety of flavours alone. Variety of options, including veg and vegan choices. The veg selections, namely the Dal, are some of the highlights. This quiet restaurant in the south loop is a great spot for a weekend meal. The dining spacing is classy and the service uncanny.

I'm visiting from Michigan and this was one of the restaurants on our route. Food and service was top-notch, and Bala was a very welcoming personality. He let us try the butter chicken for free, and it went very well with my lamb naan. Buffet is highly recommended!

This is the #1 location to come to when it comes down to Curry dishes. My Aunt has brought me here for my birthday and I tell you this place is the absolute business. The food and the drinks are outstanding . Great food , great conversations and a good open space to explore.

C
Candace Junée

I’ve been coming here for years and the food and service is always great. Today I visited alone and it was probably the best experience I’ve ever had here. I ordered the lamb samosas which were sooooo good and the perfect temperature. I also ordered the Aloo Mutter which was pretty good and had the perfect temperature. The owner paid a visit to my table several times offering me free items from tea to naan, wine, and desserts. Unfortunately I had to turn them down because of food allergies I have, but it was such a kind gesture. The owner mentioned that he has been in business for 17 years which is cool to hear. Anyways, this place is great and I highly recommend whether you’re dining in person or ordering delivery!

It's been a year since I last dined here (with a large group of people), so when I saw that they started doing brunch buffet I decided to give it a try. And it didn't disappoint! I remember liking the Nepalese lamb curry a la carte last time and was really glad (and a little surprised) to see that it's among the buffet options. Still one of my favorites. The lamb was cooked to have a really tender texture, and personally I like the fact that the meat was bone-in, which means that you get different parts of the meat, like the rack, flank, and tendons. The sauce is rich and flavorful, goes very well with the rice or the freshly made butter naan - the freshness is key! The naan is thicker than some of the other Indian restaurants in town, but this is the kind I prefer since it's got both a fluffy and chewy texture and soaks up the sauces so well. The other main dishes are good, too. The chicken vindaloo is very spicy (which I liked), so be careful if you're not into spices. The larger pieces of tandoori chicken can be a bit lacking in spices when you get into the inside, e.g., the chicken thigh, but overall it's freshly cooked and good. Sag paneer (cheese in spinach sauce) has always been one of my favorites, and they do it quite well here as well. There's a variety of vegetarian curry options as well, each having its own flavor. They've also got some 'street food' type of dishes, like vegetable pakoras (which was sweeter than I'm used to), bhel puri (puffed rice & vermicelli), and masala papad, which go quite well with the raita and chutneys. There were two dessert options. The mango pudding was really just sweetened mango purée mixed with canned fruits, which is ok but not real 'pudding', if you know what I mean. The kheer (rice pudding) is interesting: the kheers that I've had were cold, firmer in texture, and sweeter, whereas this one is hot, liquidy and more salty than sweet. The owner explained that they seasoned it with a lot of ground cardamom, but I was still a bit surprised at the taste - but not a bad experience by any means. In addition to the food, the owner was kind and welcoming. The restaurant's got a lovely ambience, along with an interesting music playlist! One more thing: if you're not here for buffet, their momo's are pretty good as well. I got those last time and would recommend (they're not on the buffet). Will plan to be back!

Came here for dinner with family and friends. Had a wonderful experience. Beautiful ambience and the staff is so welcoming and accommodating. Scrumptious food, perfect quantity for the price. Tandoor roti and garlic naan were so fresh. Recommend vegetable kofta and Shrimp Madras. Loved the masala tea as well. PS: visited once again to attend a private event hosted by our friends. It was a buffet. Variety of delicious food items both for vegetarian/vegan and non-vegetarian. Well cooked and fresh. Staff was very supportive and cooperative.

This is a fantastic restaurant. The meat was higher quality than we have experienced and many similar places. The service was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly and tasted delicious. The portions are good and the prices are reasonable. There are so many things I want to try on their menu, we'll have to plan another trip to Chicago!

Wow, what a culinary journey at Chicago Indian Curry Restaurant! The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere. The food, oh the food! It was a symphony of flavors, with each dish more delightful than the last. The appetizers were a great start, with the Masala Papad being a standout. Crisp, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, it set the tone for the rest of the meal. The Veg Samosa was decent, but didn't quite live up to the papad's standard. But then, the entrees arrived, and it was a whole new level of deliciousness. The Navratna Korma was a masterpiece - rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. The Daal Fry was equally impressive, with perfectly cooked lentils and a depth of flavor that left me wanting more. Unfortunately, the Butter Chicken didn't quite hit the mark. It was a bit too sweet and lacking in the rich, buttery flavor I've come to expect from this dish. But the breads, oh the breads! The Butter Naan was fluffy, lightly buttered, and perfect for sopping up all the sauces. The Laccha Paratha was crispy, flaky, and utterly addictive. And then, the piece de resistance - a complimentary Mango Dessert that was the perfect sweet treat to end

In Chicago for the holidays and decided to try an Indian lunch buffet, and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious and there were so many options to try. The service was also great and very kind! I’m going to have to come back here when I’m in town!

Great hospitable service and very high quality delicious food!! You can tell a buffet has high quality food when the texture is what it’s supposed to be for each dish, you can perceive the freshness and every item also has its own unique authentic flavor. Also if you come often you can see they often rotate one or two items in their buffet menu so there’s always variety and you favorites are likely to be there too. Highly recommend!

One of the best kept secrets in Chicago. I really can't wrap my head around how many people sleep on this one. The food is made with love and *unbelievably* good -- and fresh! -- despite me dining there at many different times. It's a small team making all this magic happen day in and day out for our benefit, and every staff member I've been lucky enough to meet has been so very courteous and kind. Thank you team Chicago Curry House!

While waiting for our connecting train we hopped in a cab and headed to Chicago curry house! The food was very delicious! My husband ate off the buffet and I ordered off the menu but we both truly enjoyed our meals! The restaurant is very nice and classy! And the gentleman who served us was so friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend you make plans to eat here if your in Chicago and love Indian food!

We got to meet up with friends we haven’t seen in half a decade. Came in around 12:30 and stayed till 2. Food was great, bottomless with GREAT flavor. I wasn’t upset with a single item and everything was extremely delicious. They seated our party of 5 and honestly the staff were so welcoming. Granted our party was kind of loud (old friends 😅 reuniting), but staff was still extremely sweet and accommodating throughout. Honestly never had such kind hosts at a buffet like this before, in addition to excellent food. Very very satisfied with our meal and experience!!!

Loved this place. Very friendly stuff and owner, amazing food and drinks. There is also a buffet during the lunch. I'm not good enough in English to describe all of my emotions about this place, but I highly recommend it!

Food is amazing!! We came for the lunch buffet. There is so much variety and for a great price. The owner, Bala, is a very kind soul who welcomes every guest! We are from out of town, but the next time we come back to Chicago, this place is going to be on our list again! 100% recommend this place. Chilli Chicken, mixed veg pakora, chicken makhani, and mango pudding dessert were all 10/10.

They had only buffet for lunch and no ala carte. However the buffet options are very good and unique. Many chat items and traditional veg curries were in the buffet. Mango pudding and rice kheer were yummy! Jeera rice with chana dal was very flavorful. Steamed Veg Momos are delicious. Restaurant ambience is cozy and comfortable.

This spot has a homely neighborhood vibe in a corner away from the main road in south loop. We came in for the lunch buffet on Sunday and tried many delicious dish. The buffet seems small at first but it’s packed with options and the host will fresh naan to your table and refill them during your meal. Our favorite are: - Goat curry (tender falling off the bone goat in curry with a spicy kick) - Chili chicken ( fried piece of chicken stir fried with pepper and chilies) - Butter chicken (creamy and perfect to go with some naan) - Tandoori chicken (some pieces were dry but I had a moist piece with smoky flavor like it’s fresh off the grill) - Saag paneer (creamy vegetarian option) - Mint chutney We also tried mango lassi which is not included in the buffet but it’s rich and sweet and worth a try. The cold options and dessert options are definitely not their strength. And everything is tightly packed so the buffet gets messy after each use (sauce sticks on the handle, spills outside of the pan). The four of us were sat in a booth and I don’t recommend this since it’s very cramped and the tables were shaky. Regardless the food is amazing and definitely worth a try, especially given their soft price of $19.95 per person!

This is my go-to place for takeout! They have reliable, tasty Indian food at a good price for the South Loop. Everyone who works here is cordial and helpful, and I've appreciated the service I've gotten. You can tell the owner cares a lot about this place. I removed one star because my experiences with the buffet have been disappointing. I really like the idea of an Indian buffet, and it's at a great price point, but the implementation here has problems. I keep trying it every few months to see if it gets better, but so far I've left discouraged. My main problems with it: - The naan is usually somewhat stale. I get that it's probably challenging to keep it fresh in a buffet setting, but it's frequently rock hard. - The meat seems lower quality than what I get in my takeout order. Perhaps it's just not as fresh. I frequently find small bones in the chicken, which adds some friction to the experience. - I'd appreciate it if they consistently put common allergens on the labels. They label some dishes, but when I've asked to verify, they've told me allergens are in some dishes that they haven't labeled. In a buffet setting, this means that I'm really only confident trying one or two dishes that I know are safe. All in all, this is one of my favorite places to eat in the area. If they can improve the quality of the buffet, I could see myself loving it. I wouldn't mind a slightly higher price point if the quality improved. Regardless, I'll keep going here for take out!

I got many items as a takeout- Samosa Chaat (didnt expect it to be a cold chaat, extremely sour and lacked any taste whatsoever), Veg Chilli momo (got 8 pieces of fried momo sauteed in a chilli sauce, this was ok, the filling lacked any flavor, the sauce was ok), Garlic naan (thick naan, not very good), Paneer Bhurji (flavorless, spiceless gravy, small portion), Lamb curry (small portion for the price, the mutton pieces were hard and didnt cook well, again flavor could be improved), Shrimp biryani (good, with large shrimps), Mango lassi (this was the best one of all, tasty and good quantity for a good price, does not have that typical mango puree smell that other places have, which is a good thing). Disappointed with the food from this place, if I had to go again, I would only get Mango lassi and nothing else.

Ordered takeout online and the order was ready to go when promised. The online ordering system didn’t offer a spice level. Recommend adding, I would have put in a 2 maybe 3 and received a dish with a heat level at a 9 and it was inedible for my taste. Ordered Dal Fry and onion naan. The dal fry was so spicy I could barely eat it, ended up throwing it out due to the extreme heat after eating 1/4 of the dish. *** Edited to add, I enjoy Indian food spice, flavor, and aromatics. This complaint is not regarding the quality of the food or the underlying flavor of the dal curry - it was simply way too hot on the heat scale and there is not away to indicate that preference when ordering online. My husband typically orders a high heat level and I can rarely taste his food it is too hot. Indian spice is nice, the heat was intolerable. This dish was prepared to be extremely hot, so hot I could not consume it and I tried. My eyes and nose were watering for an hour after eating 1/4 of the dish! If this dish couldn’t be made low to medium (3) on the heat scale someone could have called to let me know and I could adjust my order to something with a tolerable heat level. The onion naan was good, rice was a bit dry. Overall disappointed with the extreme heat level, I only had 1/4 of the dish and it took an hour to recover from the heat. In Chicago for a weekend only and wish I would have selected a different option

Food was too sweet for Indian test. Service was poor. Would not recommend for indians. Biryani was dry. Chicken tandoori was uncooked. Items were very sweet. Charged 21.95. Extra 4.99 for credit card (who charges extra for CC these days?). Gratuity 20 dollars. We were hungry but had to go out unfilled and dissapointed. Only salvable item was chilli chiken and it was empty very quickly and took 45 minutes to be refilled. Plates were removed after a long time. W hole family insisted on eating in 2 hours after a buffet meal for the first time. Limited parking available in the backside. that is the only positive.

I had a very disappointing experience at Chicago Curry House. I was browsing through a few places and this one looked interesting, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge letdown. We went for the lunch buffet since it seemed to be the popular choice, but out of all the dishes, only two or three were somewhat decent. The rest were really bad — probably some of the worst I’ve had. The place itself looks hygienic and calm, with a nice restaurant vibe, but the food quality completely ruined it. The biryani rice was dried out and very hard to chew, the jeera rice was dripping with oil and tasted like leftovers, and the chicken tandoori wasn’t cooked properly — it was so hard it felt almost raw inside. The noodles looked really tempting at first, and I couldn’t wait to dig in — but that excitement didn’t last long once I tasted them. The only thing that saved the meal was the naan, which was soft and fresh. Paying $16.99 for a single buffet and leaving completely unsatisfied was really frustrating. We went for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and I’m 200% sure most of the items were Sunday leftovers. Went in starving, came out really disappointed. Definitely not worth it.

They charge 4% credit card surcharge. I have never seen any other restaurant do that P.S Anyone dining here in the future, please review your check carefully if you are paying with a credit card. I wish I had taken a photo of mine. Rather than dismissing this review by falsely labeling it as “spam,” it would be better to acknowledge the issue honestly instead of denying it. There also appears to be a pattern where the owner responds poorly to any review rated below three stars, instead of addressing the feedback constructively. NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT!!
