I had typically gone to the river north location my entire life so this was a new experience for me. I love this locations interior much more! The music choice could’ve been better but overall the vibes were amazing. The food was top notch per usual. I couldn’t stop ordering the beef crispy rice. The duck appetizer was so fresh and tender. Their sushi rolls are just out of this world. Staff were all friendly and I will definitely be back.

We had a great experience coming in here on a Thursday night. Place was gracefully filled with people and after work crowd. Started with some martini cocktail which was delicious We mostly had dishes from their new creation section all of which hit the spot. Some of personal favourites were the truffle infused Escolar and yellow tail jalapeño. The bulgogi meat paired with the roti is amazing and has explosive flavour. And as our server Mel said the dish is real underdog. Btw shoutout to her for giving us exceptional service and recommendations across the menu. Lastly ended the night with chocolate cake which was good but nothing too special. Would be ordering the “ridiculous” next time. To wrap it up New Sunda is way better than the old one. Can’t wait to come back and try new dishes.

Our group of 4 came to celebrate a birthday and a great event we just attended, and we had the best experience! Our server Samantha was so accommodating and helpful with one person of our party with gluten and dairy allergy. All of the food was amazing, and service was top notch. Highly recommend the crispy rice and the caterpillar roll! We look forward to our next visit!

Fantastic Southeast Asian cuisine in the heart of Fulton Market. They have a wide variety of eats with an exception lineup of beverages. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant has a modern Asian vibe to it. I highly recommend making a reservation as they do fill up quick. Date night rating: 10/10.

I had such a great experience here with a group of friends! I’ve been to the River North location and this one was just as great! It was a little loud with the after work crowd but the service was fantastic and the food was incredible! Their drinks were pricey but so good! I also tried the dumplings (tasted like delicious little hamburgers) and the adobo fried rice was a great portion and had such a distinctive taste. Some of the best fried rice I’ve ever had! The staff were also really friendly and had great recommendations. Overall, a really fun experience!

Sunda in Chicago's Fulton Market was the perfect upscale venue for our client dinners last week. We had large groups and were able to use the private dining room in the back. The service was impeccable, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly. Variety and quality of the food were perfect! Our guests loved everything they tried, especially the lemongrass beef lollipops! The ube espresso martini was my favorite. 10/10 recommend!

Such a wonderful spot - great for date night, girls night, celebrations, and the vibe was top notch. Our server was A-mazing she did a great job explaining the menu, describing flavors, and steering us towards items to please our palate (boy, oh boy, she understood the assignment)! Garlic Edamame 🔥 Brussel Sprouts 🤌🏾 Bulgogi Tacos 😋 Shrimp Skewers 👍🏾 Pork Belly & Duck Buns 😋 Sweet Potato Caterpillar ❤️ Food hasn't digested yet, and already planning a return visit. Sooooooooo GOOD!

It’s a beautiful place. Went to celebrate a friend’s 22nd, and it was amazing. Every bite was to die for, they had to actually roll me out of the restaurant. Jaedon our server was awesome, he helped us celebrate.

The food was good, had a few starts and the Signature drinks were unique and delicious! I recommend them the legend offered a curry twist with sweet pineapple and coconut!

When it comes the experience with ELO and the craftsmanship of drinks by Erick also the entire staff at this lively and lovely location, I for sure will make this a must go experience when I’m back in the Windy City. From knowledge of the surrounding attractions to directions to the “loo” this team of experienced staff had “the right stuff”. And yes it was my birthday experience as well… so when you go … be sure to make a wish

Came here with on the weekend and it was nice. There was no wait time if you reserved ahead. The sushi was good, but the dessert was the star of the show. Got a NA drink with pandan and it was so good. The ube expresso martini was good as well.

I visited Sunda this week with a friend and we were blown away from start to finish. We decided to order a variety of appetizers, sushi, rolls, and sashimi, every single bite was incredible. The fish was unbelievably fresh, with clean, delicate flavors that you can only get when the ingredients are top quality. The presentation was just as impressive as the taste… beautifully plated, vibrant, and full of detail. I only managed to capture one photo from that night because the food was simply too good not to dive into right away. That alone should tell you how amazing everything was. What really made the night even better was the service. Our server, Rayan, was absolutely phenomenal, attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and made great recommendations that we loved. The manager, Amanda, went out of her way to stop by our table and make sure we were having a wonderful experience. Her kindness and warmth made the evening feel so personal, which you don’t always find at busy city restaurants. The atmosphere of Sunda is also worth mentioning. Very stylish, lively, and perfect for a night out with friends, a date, or even a special celebration. It manages to feel both upscale and comfortable at the same time. Overall, Sunda exceeded all expectations. Amazing food, outstanding service, and a great vibe. Highly recommend asking for Rayan if you can, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Amanda, you’ll see why this restaurant runs so smoothly. Definitely one of my top dining experiences in Chicago.

The service was impeccable! We had some dietary restrictions at the table and the staff were very friendly, accommodating, and made sure we were taken care of. I don’t remember our waitress’ name but she had dark hair in a ponytail and dark-framed glasses. She consistently came by to make sure we were doing okay, and was very affirming in what we ordered had contained. We were so comfortable and had a splendid time! The food was also delicious. Each dish was tasty. I did feel that the price point was high but when the dishes came out, the portions of what we ordered were generous! You definitely get your bang for your buck with the quality of food, service, and atmosphere of the area. I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a small work/meeting or a nice dinner with some friends or a date. Will definitely be back to try out other dishes!

The food is full-of flavor and filling. The hosts are very welcoming and great at explaining each dish. The service was excellent and our drinks were consistently refilled without having to wait or ask. The atmosphere is cozy with beautiful views outside. Reserve your table ahead of time because there was a long line and the restaurant filled fast. We had a reservation but I could see how people may have to wait if they did not book in advance.

Loved everything about this place. Our waiter was very knowledgeable with cocktails and menu items. He answered all of our questions and made suggestions based on our food and drink preferences. He even was able to get my husband a tin of caviar even though it’s not on the menu. The food was great and we enjoyed every dish!

We celebrated New Year’s in Chicago at this incredible restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience. The entertainment was captivating, the service top-notch, and the entire evening felt like magic. The food arrived at lightning speed—one moment we were ordering, and the next, it was on our table! Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

If I could give more than five stars, I would. Sunda on Green St in West Loop is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, everything was exceptional—from the atmosphere to the service to the food. The food? Exquisite doesn’t even do it justice. Every dish was perfectly balanced, thoughtfully plated, and packed with flavor. You can truly taste the care and creativity that goes into every item on the menu. It’s the kind of dining experience that leaves a lasting impression and keeps you thinking about it long after you’ve left. But what made our evening truly unforgettable was our bartender, McKenzie. She is, without a doubt, the best bartender I’ve ever had. Friendly, professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and effortlessly attentive—McKenzie made us feel like VIPs the entire night. Her timing was perfect, her recommendations were spot-on, and her energy elevated the whole experience. Sunda is a standout in every way, but McKenzie made our night one we’ll be talking about for a long time. Can’t recommend this place enough—this is what dining out should feel like.

Our hostest was the best. She had a stellar attitude and was willing to accomodate to the best of her abilities. Food was a roller coaster from start to finish in terms of flavor. Each thing you ordered, there were expectations, and then there was the ride. Amazing job. My favorite was probably the Snow crab roll since it exceeded my expectations by a lot. The atmosphere was fun and very inviting. Not to holiday themed but still felt cozy yet fine.

Sunda is one of our favorite places to eat no matter what part of the country it's in, everything is always perfect. The staff are professional and polite, the decor is amazing and the food outstanding. Definitely worth trying their amazing cocktail list. 10 out of 10 always for us.

First time dining at the Fulton Market location and it did not disappoint! Our reservation was at 8pm, but we got there around 7:45pm and the hostess was able to seat us right away. Our server was attentive but not overbearing and gave us ample time and space to peruse the menu. All apps and entrees were delicious but the standouts were the fried snapper and crispy pata. Will be back!

Sunda did it again with another great location! The restaurant itself is stunning (although they could do better on music selection), no matter where you sit you are surrounded by great decor. And the food is sensational! Our favorites were the sushi, lemongrass beef lollipops, and the crispy pasta which is a location exclusive. They were also about to suggest a nice n/a cocktail.

Our expierence at New Sunda was fantastic. We tried four different drinks and loved all of them, as there were very fresh: 5/5 UBE Espresso Martini: A phenomenal twist to a traditional espresso martini and very popular—highly recommend trying 5/5 Billy’s Superfresh Martini: A very boozy but also a great drink to wet the pallet 5/5 Strawberry Fields: A sweeter drink that was very good 5/5 Perfect Strangers: A more bitter drink (hence the ingredients) with a strong orange taste As for the food, our server recommended a few items that were okay and others that we absolutely loved. The food that we didn’t like wasn’t bad, we just had different pallets. With that being said, we will definitely be going back to try other parts of the menu and was had a wonderful overall experience from the food and drinks, ambiance, and service. It’s a great restaurant to go for date night or with a group of friends and has a large enough menu to keep you coming back for more. 5/5 Roasted Duck Hash: I loved this dish, and it was super savory—it’s a must order 4.5/5 Tiger Shrimp Tempura: It was very tasty but not a must order unless you’re a shrimp lover 4/5 Oxtail Pot Stickers: They were really good, but I’m not a huge oxtail fan. Try them if you enjoy oxtail and you won’t be disappointed 4/5 Grilled Veggies: There weren’t anything special and just a typical side at a restaurant—not necessary to order given the large menu 3.5/5 Miso cauliflower: An asian twist of cauliflower, nothing crazy or special 5/5 Sweet Potato Caterpillar Sushi: The best vegetarian sushi we have tried. If you’re vegetarian or just really like sushi, this is a must order 5/5 Lobster Waygu sushi: This was delicious and by far my favorite just behind the roasted duck hash—a must order

Sunda Chicago - A Phenomenal Dining Experience If you're looking for the best dining experience in Chicago, look no further than Sunda. From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, setting the perfect stage for a memorable night. The food was nothing short of phenomenal. Every dish was packed with flavour, creativity, and a level of culinary finesse that can only be described as extraordinary. Chefs Rick and Gina truly went above and beyond, crafting a meal that felt as much like art as it did a feast. Their passion for the craft shone through every bite, making the entire experience unforgettable. Sunda is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience—Chicago’s number one place to be. If you’re in town, this spot is an absolute must-visit.

Sunda was an incredible experience. The atmosphere, food, and service was top notch all around. Our waiter, Leo, took incredible care of us making great recommendations. We were in town visiting friends and will definitely come back on our next trip.

Had reservations last night with friends visiting town. Sunda is always a go to. Jaedon was our server and very knowledgeable about the menu and the AAIP menu that was featured. We started with the Ube espresso martinis , the jalapeño yellowtail, and the oxtail potstickers. We shared about 4 more entrees including the sea bass and cod dishes. SO GOOD! We had the best time and absolutely loved the experience. Jaedon recommended the coconut cheesecake, and it was fire! Thank you again Jae and we shall return!

12/10 experience! Gina and Antonio made our whole night. They made us feel so welcomed and were so fun to chat with! Everything they recommended on the menu was perfection. If there’s only one thing you try at Sunda, it needs to be the coconut cheesecake. I wish I took more photos of the food but it was THAT good.

Sunda absolutely delivered. From start to finish, the entire experience was top-tier. Our server Leo was incredible - super knowledgeable, welcoming, and genuinely elevated the night. He even broke down the world of sake for our friend who had never tried it before, and thanks to him, we ended up snagging a bottle we loved. Now the food… unreal. • Wagyu: melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Rich, buttery, and cooked exactly how wagyu should be. • Tuna Crispy Rolls: insane. Perfect balance of crunch, spice, and flavor — easily one of the best things on the menu. • Red Dragon Sushi: straight up godly. Every dish hit. Highly recommend — and if you go, ask for Leo.

Everything was amazing! We came again on a Saturday night to celebrate my mother’s birthday and had a great time. Our server, Melissa, was great! She explained everything, had great recommendations and was very patient with us. Food and drinks were fantastic, we will be returning of course.

Still sitting at the restaurant, and i just have to say, WOW! the food was fabulous. it was our anniversary and we got so many free treats. our server, May, was so attentive, sweet, and overall just a beautiful soul to have the pleasure of being in the presence of for a couple hours. Will be back as soon as we recover from our full stomachs!

I typically don't write reviews but I took some clients out last night to try out a new spot and it was truly incredible. The atmosphere and environment was electric. Our reservation was had to be pushed back, understandably with all the holiday parties and gatherings, and Alicia was very quick to escort us to bar and give recommendations on drinks while we waited to be sat. Alicia came back and forth giving updates, suggestions, and truly making sure we were okay with the slight "Inconvenience" of waiting a bit for our tables... didn't even matter because the drinks were incredible. Connor was our server and was quick and seamless on taking our orders, we had plenty of recommendations and were ready, and also introduced us to the gamblers roll, a extremely clever and fun idea to share around clients and friends. Overall we had an incredible night and will add this location to host many more work outings in the future. Service could truly not be any better.

Loved our experience SO MUCH! I had reserved a large group for Sunda about 2 weeks prior and they were so accommodating. The service was sublime, we loved the aesthetic (perfect for a cozy winter evening) and everyone loved everything they ordered. Venita and team were fantastic - can't wait to come back and in the mean time, will be recommending this place to everyone!

It was a last minute decision and I was very happy they were able to accommodate us. I have been to the Sunda in River North and loved that place. Sunda Fulton Market is just a sexy room. The shell sculpture above the bar is such a beautiful focal point. Our server Leo was a Rockstar! His recommendations were spot on. The hits were the spicy tuna and wagon crispy rice as well as the ox tail potstickers. Koni, who I think is one of the managers also made us feel special. Even the GM Jared stopped by to check on us. It was just a great experience all around. If your in the hood you need to check this place out and if your not in the hood you should make the effort. Thanks Sunda! We will be back!

Had an amazing experience at Sunda New Asian! The Korean chicken buns were unreal—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—and the bulgogi tacos were just as incredible. Every bite hit. Huge shoutout to our waiter Jaedon A., who truly made the night even better. He was so kind, attentive, and incredibly accommodating with my food allergy, which I really appreciated. The service was warm and thoughtful from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back—great food, great vibes, and top-notch service!

I’ve only been for apps and drinks in the past (which are always great!). Last night I finally had a dining experience and had a beautiful time! I can’t say enough wonderful things about Koni who facilitated in making the reservation for me and our party of 6 to celebrate a friend’s birthday. She graciously checked in on us throughout the night and was such a wonderful host! Our server Will was very attentive and made excellent suggestions. I appreciate how well Will coursed out the meal. The food is top tier! Loved the Lobster Wagyu & Midori rolls, lemongrass beef lollipops and salmon crudo to name a few. Atmosphere is beautiful, chic with a good buzz. Not as loud as you would think for being packed as we were able to hold conversation and comfortably hear each other. Definitely a place you’d return to! Can’t wait for my next visit!

Had an amazing experience at Sunda, and a huge part of it was Sam behind the bar. She was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and clearly knows her craft. Every drink was perfectly balanced and thoughtfully made, and she made great recommendations that elevated the whole night. You can tell she genuinely cares about the guest experience. Service like that is rare, Sam is a star and a big reason I’ll be coming back.

L
Lauren Carder

Seated 15 min after our reservation time but once we were seated the service was great! Favorite dishes were the oxtail potstickers, bulgogi tacos, brussel sprouts, spicy edamame and the Szechuan chicken. Interesting flavors, good quality, and huge portion sizes. Solid 4 stars for a restaurant of this price and status in chicago.

P

Sunda is a great Sushi spot in Chicago. A bit on the pricey side but that’s par for the course nowadays with more upscale sushi spots like this. The service is great, and apart from sushi most of their other bites are phenomenal. I would recommend the Lobster Wagyu Roll, and any of their rolls that incorporate spicy tuna.

B
Betsy Lynk

-1 for how loud it is in this place! I’ve dined at Sunda Nashville numerous times as well as Sunda River North, neither have ever played the music so loudly I couldn’t hear the person across the table speak! I was excited to bring my 68 y.o. Mom here until we couldn’t hold a dinner conversation because of how insanely loud the club like music was playing (I mean Loud Luxury?? At dinner? Really?) if I had known it was this type of atmosphere I’d have saved it for a night out (without my mom!) Aside from that let down, the vibes in Sunda never disappoint, decor is always phenomenal and the service is 10/10. The food was nearly the best I’ve had out of the three locations! Eggplant bao buns 10/10 - crispy, flavorful, and fresh. Fried rice 10/10 - kind of hard to mess up but it was fresh, moist, and flavorful. None of the veggies were raw or undercooked.

Service in Sunda is one of the best! Rachel was amazing. Though the Sunda Sundae was a disappointment, our favorite was the signature Crispy Rice Wagyu. Meat was melt in your mouth. Adobo fried rice tasted great as well.

A

I have dined at Sunda before and had a wonderful experience. The Chicken Inasal was excellent when enjoyed in the restaurant, which is why I decided to order the same dish for takeout. Unfortunately, I would not recommend ordering takeout. I paid extra for delivery, expecting the same quality, but the chicken arrived completely raw inside and was inedible. I was extremely disappointed and still hungry as a result. To make matters worse, Uber did not issue a refund. Despite this experience, I am willing to give Sunda another try, but only for dine-in service.

C
Christina

Gorgeous space and stellar service but I found the food to be lackluster. The pork belly sinigang had the most tender pork belly with a great sear and shatteringly crispy skin sitting in a refreshingly tangy tamarind broth. The accompanying radish, despite being flavorful, were inconsistently braised with some slices much harder than others. The chicken inasal had decent flavors but was dry, tough, and lacked boldness, with an odd chili lime vinaigrette that clashed with the dish. The miso black cod was rich and buttery, with impressive sweet umami notes. However, the fish was overly fatty and had an unpleasant fishy aftertaste, making it heavy and difficult to enjoy after a few bites. Thankfully, our meal ended on a high note with a coconutty and satisfyingly chewy babingka.

P
Prarit Julka

A bit disappointed with our experience here. Firstly service was super slow, 25 minutes for our first round of drinks and a good 15-20 minutes for repeats. We found the shrimp dim sum a complete disappointment, it was a basic homemade butter garlic shrimp and just two pieces of shrimp, ridiculously overpriced for what was served. We ordered several dishes, food was overall average and very basic Asian flavors for what the menu was priced at, we expected exceptional. The two items that stood out were the truffle tuna pizza, amazing flavors put together, and the Ridiculous- the carrot cake coated deep fried ice cream, it was definitely a stand out.

A
Alexander Hagen

Surly staff, food was about authentic as a microwaved dinner (with a 15x markup). Scallops are the only menu item saving this from one star. Cocktails thrived in mediocrity. Good late night option if you want to impress someone who has limited experience with elevated Asian or fusion in general.

N
Nique Christian

The establishment’s aesthetic was visually appealing, but the staff seemed understaffed on a very busy Friday evening, as our server was primarily assigned to assist the bar and sporadically checking on her tables. She visited a total of three times during our dining experience. Upon entering the establishment, a manager coughed directly into her hand. Additionally, she coughed into the air and into her hand again. Despite these instances, she never washed her hands, continuing to work as if nothing had transpired. We did stop another working and asked for a word with the GM. The table we were seated was the closest to the bathroom, and a large party arrived towards the end of our reservation. They decided to take photo shoot in the walkway by the bathroom and in the common space, causing significant disruptions. Management failed to take any action to alert them about the potential hazards; as many patrons were trying to simply get past to use the restroom, as the server mentioned oh, this is quite common. That’s an issue. For dinner, we ordered the pad thai (shrimp), yellowtail jalapeño & crab noodles. The server informed me that the crab noodles were excessively crabby in flavor and the noodles were excessively buttery. Upon receiving the dish, it tasted like a bowl of ramen noodles( without broth) buttered with a sprinkling of crab meat that had been broken up. The shrimp pad thai was quite basic, featuring an enormous amount of bean sprouts , on a bed of a few noodles, and severely overcooked shrimp. I firmly believe that I will not be returning to Sunda again, as the service and food did not meet my expectations. I was nearly late for my concert due to the kitchen’s delay and the lack of attentiveness from both the server and management. Jared, the manager, had mentioned that he would check in after food was received and walked past numerous times without doing so. As someone who is also part of this industry, it is imperative that you always be in your “P’s and Q’s” at all times, as you never know who may be dining at your establishment.

This is the 'Chicago restaurant group' version of fine dining. Don't expect anything more. The hostess was not particularly pleasant. We had to wait for 10 minutes for seating, despite having a reservation. The restaurant wasn't busy. The waitress was sweet and friendly but not very attentive or professional. Service was sporadic. Two of us got our meals at once but inexplicably, the pork belly dish for the other member of our party was delivered 20 minutes later. In fairness, we were warned when we ordered but that makes no sense ... why would it take 20 minutes longer to cook pork belly than Wagyu? The Wagyu dish was lukewarm and overpriced for what it was. I had to ask for each of my drink refills twice. (And I only got two refills throughout a two hour meal.) They ran out of two different kinds of very basic white wine. We were told they 'had an event' - presumably in another space because the restaurant was maybe 2/3 full - but the bartenders were standing around talking throughout the meal. I didn't even order a cocktail. Pouring wine into a mini carafe takes like 10 seconds. They were clearly not rushing to catch up. Another reviewer pointed out that the staff seemed kind of sullen. Perfect descriptor. That's basically how it is at most high-priced restaurant group-owned spots in the city now. (Some exceptions, for sure.) Doesn't matter how polite or friendly you are to the staff ... they telegraph a low-level resentment that makes it difficult to enjoy the meal. I imagine they're probably not treated very well since none of these places are owned by individuals or families anymore. So I try to be somewhat sympathetic. But if you are in the hospitality industry ... you need to be hospitable. Take care of your guests. I know people who work in this industry and they feel the same. One of the hosts gave us an unsmiling, curt 'good night' on the way out ... really encapsulated the general aesthetic. Overpriced food and unprofessional service.
