My wife and I have been going here for many years. The food has always been good. The staffing has always been nice. Still sad that they are not open for dinner anymore.
Great food, stellar service and fresh pies are back with a huge yummy selection to pick from. Best to call ahead for special orders. The Banana cream pie was awesome 👌
First time at Jack's, it was a great experience. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The food hot and very flavorful. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
First time here....it's was AMAZING!! Service was fast and food was even better. We both had omelets and they were yummy!!
Great food and great service. No complaints and that is rare for me.
It seems like new ownership maybe since last time i ate here years ago. This time everything was great. Recommended
I have always enjoyed Jack's. My family use to go there around midnight and enjoy coffee and dessert! A fond memory I have! Only thing sucks is that you're not open 24/7 anymore.
You I want a meal or just a cup of coffee, With real local flavor. Then Jack's Restaurant is it. It's easie on your pocketbook, the menu had plenty of options. Iconical Located downtown.. The only thing I miss is not open 24/7 anymore.....
I love Jack's! Everytime I go it is a wonderfull experience. I usually get the eggs Benedict and it is great Everytime. Everything on the menu is good and the staff is great. The coffee is delicious and never an empty cup die to the attentive staff. I woul recommend this place for couples or families or if you are just by yourself Jack's is the place to eat.
Food was wonderful and service was great! Breakfast served all day. Fresh squeezed orange juice was unreal. I'd recommend this place to anyone!!!
Quick and nice price, don't forget they have a couple of food choices on the the table that are quick to catch your eye with the price. Service is very good. If you looking around for breakfast and can't find because everywhere else is packed go to Jack's it will be worth your while
I love this place. My lady and I go there for breakfast at least once a month and are treated like family. The service is on point. Thank you Jack's.
Great food, large portions, reasonably priced. Our waitress was adorable, always had a smile. Very helpfull and friendly.
Plates are fat. Food is good and a decently priced. Staff are nice and quick.
Excellent customer service, Excellent atmosphere and Excellent food!!! In my opinion it deserves more than 5 stars
Food was delicious. Service was great as well. Prices are reasonable considering the times. For sure eat there if you get an opportunity.
A classic a classic morning diner experience for experience. It was absolutely perfect after a long 5 hour drive, with exceptional service and comforting food. Lots of locals there....good sign!
Beautiful sweet waitress, Paradise is literally the best
My roommate and I order breakfast to go from jacks at least once a month ever since this pandemic started. I must say, this is a great restaurant with great employees. They really go the extra mile for their customers. I ordered a short stack of pancakes this morning (best pancakes in Chico for sure), when I got home, I noticed there wasn't any syrup in the box. Needless to say I was really upset because I couldn't make it back there to pick it up. Estella calmed me down and then offered to bring me syrup....to my house!!! I was blown away by the level of kindness and the top notch customer service skills they have here at jacks. I understand that mistakes happen...I shouldn't have gotten so mad, but estella made up for it. My roommate actually wound up finding some syrup in our cabinets so I didn't have to take her up on her offer. Thank you Estrella and jacks for a really awesome restaurant experience every time!
The food was very good and served in a very reasonable time. The staff were awsome!!!!!! I've eaten there several times when I'm in Chico, and have never been disappointed. Keep up the great food and customer service. My wife and I will be back.
Best experience, great food and excellent service ! Still my best place to eat.
My mother worked here when I was a child 50 years ago. Still great food! Pancakes are my favorite. They are very efficient here and the manager is very nice. Our favorite breakfast place in town.
Great food and old time diner ambiance. Plenty of parking on-site, complete with a view of downtown main street. Great service highly attentive. Home cooked style breakfast all day or lunch served inside or outside on the patio. They also have mimosas 😎
We followed Martino, the owner from his time managing at Cozy Diner. He is such a pleasant person and always remembers us when we come in. It's nice to feel that you are eating at a friend's restaurant and the food is always great!
Grabbed a 2pm breakfast. Great service. Food was hot and delicious. Price friendly.
My wife and I go here often. The whole staff is so friendly and nice. Their food has good portions and every item i have had, was terrific. Jack's is now our weekly breakfast.
I love Jack's Restaurant. I used to go there with my parents before it was a Denny's. The food is always good, if there is a problem, they fix it fast. The staff are wonderful people and make me feel like I'm family.
Was looking for a different cafe. Sooo glad we found Jack's. Good was great and big enough for two! Our server was sweet and prompt, but all the servers and the manager looked out for all the customers.
Consistent Dinner Eats, friendly, CLEAN! I was pleasantly surprised from this old Dennys building, great fresh Orange Juice, good food , maintained and friendly staff
My son and I had the most pleasant experience. The waitress was wonderful and so helpful. The food was perfect . It was cooked to order delivered hot..it was so appealing. The taste was remarkable. We had the steak and eggs. It was really reasonable
My wife and I ate here today. The food was very good, and so was the sevice. If I had to complain, I'd gripe about the portion size. Usually, when I pay this much for a meal, I expect to get more food than I can eat (and I usually have an impressive appetite), and I expect to take leftovers home to eat later. This time, I got exactly the right amount of food; enough to fill me up, and no leftovers to take home. Just as well, this time, because I was far enough from home that it wouldn't have worked to take leftovers anyway.
We ate here today. It was the best breakfast I have had at a restaurant in years. The food was so fresh and tasty. So clean. The staff was amazing as well. I'd give 10 stars if I could. Great prices and big portions.
I hadn't been in Jack's in over 30 years. I just moved back here from Iowa after being gone for 27 years, and I'm on a mission to find the best waffle in chico. Waffle was pretty decent, sides were good, staff was amazing! Fresh squeezed orange juice was a bonus. They also serve mimosas after 9:00 a.m. decor hasn't changed much in 30 years, but everything else was pretty much the way I remember it.
Always a pleasant experience. Best breakfast in town with amazing staff. The ribeye they serve is great quality. The giant chicken fried steak with gravy is delicious as well. Love taking my family there for breakfast!
Listen to the voice of reason. Mine! I'm plenty reasonable, but I will admit a fault. When it comes to my eggs, I take it personally if they are inedible. Only because I leave no room for interpretation. I describe what I want the result to be in the end. I want my eggs scrambled lightly and still moist. Even if the cook gets it wrong, I still have the person that took the order in-between me and a bad egg. OK, long winded ? Maybe that's two faults, this is therapeutic. The sign on the building said: Ribeye, eggs, potatoes and toast for $13.00. I ordered and received exactly what was advertised. I would have taken a picture or two, but there wasn't anything except for a dirty plate and silverware the next very time I looked down. Bottom line. My food was cooked perfect, and the waitress was courteous and studious. Everyone did their job well. You can stop reading now; the rest will not seem important or relevant to your review reading purpose. If I'm honest, I had one ...um...gripe..no, no no.. complaint.....we will run with that. I freely admit it's all me. The exceedingly pretty waitress that smiles with her eyes decided to be elsewhere on this day. She is likely happy, married and well... I digress.
This place is GREAT! My boss took me out for a "brunch". The food is great. The service is friendly and quick. The restaurant is clean. The prices are very fair. What more can you ask for?! I'll definitely go back for more and recommend it to my friends.
The food was good the staff was friendly The waitress was extremely attentive and very friendly. This is a place we will definitely be going to again. They treated us like part of the family.
The food and service were very good. The price was reasonable for today's prices for what we ordered
Yummy breakfast sandwiches served by kind, thoughtful staff. My to go order was made quickly and they served me coffee while I waited.
Good old Jack's has been getting better and better lately! Today for the first time I tried the veggie crepes w/hollandaise........deeeeelicious! The service was great. Pro tip: best sausage patty in town!
I always judge a diner by whether it feels like a place David Lynch would hang out, and this one absolutely passes the vibe check. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere has that lively, offbeat charm, and the staff are genuinely wonderful. The pancakes fluffy, warm and friendly on the wallet, and the coffee stays hot with refills appearing like a little bit of diner magic before you ever see the bottom of the cup.
We went for breakfast and got sat down immediately by a friendly staff member and our drink orders taken immediately as well. The whole crew was super professional and eager to please everyone who walked through the door. Really great experience so early in the morning. Food was excellent and priced fair.
Absolutely love this place. Had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Delicious!! Price was around $14. Service was great. Food came out quickly. Coffee was fresh. Restaurant was clean and comfortable.
Jack’s Cafe in Chico It’s a little place on Main Street, Where everyone knows who you are. Immediately you feel right at home, No matter if you’ve traveled far. You hear a bright “hello” when you enter, Very nice at six-thirty in the morn. “Sit anywhere you like,” I heard someone say, Just like they’d known me since I was born. So, I sat in a booth by the windows, That run the full length of the place. There were only three others sitting at a table, Having coffee, talking stories face to face. They probably come in every morning, This must be their place to go. Tina has the coffee ready, She’s always the first server to show. She took my order, the senior special, Biscuits and gravy, bacon and fruit. The coffee was included, of course, With unlimited refills to boot. After a while, Michelle came on duty, A second waitress for all the hungry folks. I guess they know they’ll soon be busy, Serving breakfasts with sunnyside yokes. There’s take-out, of course, you can order ahead, Many people take their food home. It’s a constant stream of customers, Feeding themselves by using their phones. Then Leah arrived for her shift, That made three all at the same time. I knew my food was good but with three servers, The rest of the menu must be fine. What an incredible place I found, The ambiance and food is so “Rico.” Serendipity had brought to the best place in town, Jake’s Cafe in Chico. Henry Lansing Woodward April 29, 2024 Chico, California
I go to jacks almost every day. The people are really, really nice. They usually have my coffee and water on the counter before I sit down. I've been going there since I was in high school. When they were open, 24 hours a day. Their breakfast are spot on
’ve been going to Jack’s for about four years now, and it’s a great spot for breakfast and lunch. The service is always excellent, the owners are wonderful, and they consistently make sure you have a great experience with good food. Highly recommend.
Great service, good food. Very clean. Will definitely be going back.
The food is always good and the staff is very attentive.
Not too busy on a Saturday morning. Was promptly greeted and seated by manager. Great service from all employees, food was fantastic, and overall price was great. Skillets and omelets are the go to. Steak and carnival hit the spot.
First time and wasnt disappointed. Place seems very popular. Good staff that was friendly and easy location with good parking. Had their chicken fried steak breakfast burrito and it was amazing.
Excellent service and excellent food. The staff was friendly and everyone had smiles on their faces. The owner chatted with us a bit and I think every employee made it to our table to see how our food was or if coffee was needed. Impressively, they accomplished all of this while not seeming intrusive. Be sure to consider this place for chow to support your local business!
Pretty good food and for a great price. Tried the cheeseburger and fries special for $8.99. Real friendly staff. Does close at 2 pm though.
Decent breakfast place in downtown Chico, CA. Friendly wait staff and basic diner style vibes. Biscuits and Gravy were delicious! Will definitely be back!
Jack's is one of the older breakfast diners in town located centrally in downtown Chico. The food is not amazing, but its just breakfast...you know what you are going to get and it comes out the way you expect it. Reasonably priced, good service, and open all the time.
The service was good and the food was satisfying. I was told they have good coffee by a friend who was with me. If your in the area it's not a bad place for breakfast.
Friendly staff, good prices, great food. Order the chicken and waffles, and a side of pancakes in the afternoon...not a problem. The chicken was excellent. The portions were larger enough for my husband and I both.
Good service good food Enjoyed my time there
Made the crispy hasbrowns perfect. Filled my coffee at least 5 times. Bacon was crispy and eggs medium. Very pleasant service each server welcomed me in and they each helped to make sure coffee was filled. Nice job.
I had breakfast here for the first time in years. It was surprisingly good! I was impressed! The service was decent and the place was clean. Oh, and the coffee was excellent!!! Best of all the prices were great! I definitely recommend this restaurant!
I like this place it has a nostalgic feel to it. It is much like most restaurants were in the 70's and 80's. Breakfast was a great value. Especially in the post pandemic era. I was surprised the cost was about what it was 2 years ago. Most other restaurants in the area have added $1-$2 for every menu item. But this one much like everything else about it seems unchanged.
The service and employees were polite and helpful when ordering. Food came relatively quickly for a party of four, and they came back a few times to check if everything is fine. They forgot a few items like sides and condiments but besides those minor issues it was a nice visit.
Skip the crepes & hollandaise sauce. Great $9.99 breakfast deal! Biscuits & gravy- need more bacon or sausage fat for stronger flavor. EXCELLENT service, lots of coffee served, FRESH SQUEEZED Orange juice, DELICIOUS!
Omlette was outstanding and service great. I'm glad Jacks is Back, CSUC Grad 1991 recently returned to Chico. Great memories at Jacks that went with a great breakfast.
Tina was our waitress and host, a nice no nonsense server, whom for some reason I took a liking for from the gate go. Staff in general nice people, and even Jesus “Chewy” talented food preparer/Cook/Chef for all I care, was nice to us, which is rare but it happened in Jack’s Family Restaurant. We went there because we done several breakfast places in Chico, and frankly a new spot sounded interesting. Arrived around 11:30 AM, place was 30-40% full? Food: Seniors menu 2 eggs over medium, one bacon, one sausage, hash browns, sourdough toast/butter, one medium size freshly squeezed orange juice, clean water, $13+? Overall my lady companion enjoyed the eggs-cooked to perfection, really. Hash Browns a touch above the majority, which definitely it is attributed to the skill in making it. Bacon, Sausage went to me, as she steers clear of this food, but I don’t, the more the merrier. Bacon thick, dark, a little strong to the bite, but likable. Sausage bulky as compared to most, found it salty but that could be me. Sourdough nice cut in four. Pancakes, frankly, only average, no magic here. Orange 🍊 juice fresh. 4 Stars. Lumberjack, $16? 3 eggs over medium, 3 sausages, 3 bacon slices, hash brown, english muffin, six small pancakes. Plus additions sausage and bacon. Too salty sausages for me, will not repeat, and everything else as it should be. 4 Stars. Bathrooms only with password, relatively clean on both. I must admit that price wise no better nor worst. Total $31+? plus without counting gratuity which, even if I say it myself, was above average. 4 Stars. 8-4-2023 The staff is really nice, each one, so I will be returning. Today 7-4-2023 around 1 PM. Food: Special on Fri, Sat, Sun Extra large Chicken Fried Steak, $14? Covered with white gravy, it’s own plate. Gravy average. Steak average. I’m spoiled silly in this department, having been in Texas, South and North Carolina. Great Chicken Fried Steak! Second plate of same order was 2 eggs over medium, perfect. Hash Browns, the ones to beat so far! English Muffin, almost burnt. Failed. Corn 🌽 Bread, the best I’ve tried in quite a while, it actually tasted like corn, not overly sweet, what was not too like? Could have eaten a Trio with butter. Also had a cup of their Friday Clam Chowder, $3.49? Thick, clams had gone swimming because I could not locate them, average at best. Garlic Bread, nice. My Lady sidekick enjoyed her 2 over medium, hash browns, and a small cup with steamed veggies. Small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. We both had plenty of fresh water with a slice of lemon. Service superb at the lovely hands of Isis, Happy Birthday 🎁 next day. Everyone as I said cool 😎. Total before gratuity, $34+. 4 Stars.
Good food, fast and friendly service. Not the most welcoming seeming place when you first enter with the "no loitering" "restrooms are for customers only" and "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" signs, but when you get past that, the staff is very friendly and the classic diner look is cozy. Food's always cheap and good here, and they keep your coffee cup full. Wish it were still open all night, though.
Had the cheese burgers and fries. Reasonably priced, but the burgers are pretty plain. Could use mayo, mustard and ketchup. I had a to go order, I'm sure if you dine in you can get that. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Closes at 2:00 I think
I asked if I could use restroom n got refused but on the positive side I'm sure they had their reasons..I ve ate here before n the food was excellent and the people were nice enough..but iam just curious what if I was Jim Carrey n had to use the restroom lol..
Disappointed. Usually pretty good, but last time ordered extra crispy hash browns and got extra soft. I don’t think they toasted the English muffin on my eggs Benedict and the eggs were over cooked:/
I've had better food for less money. Tried chicken fried steak & eggs. Steak was small, gravy sparse and watery. Hash browns dripping with grease. Toast with margarine, not real butter. Yuk.
The service little slow. Staff very nice. Food French Dip w/fries good fries really good crunchy outside soft inside. It was noisy due to a buzz from one of the machines . So its ok
The service is wonderful. Super friendly employees. The waitresses are fast and great about checking on you. The owner is out front and does everything from greeting to bringing drinks to clearing tables. Nice and clean environment. I give it a 3 because the food isnt the best. It's not horrible; but i have had better.
This place is open when nothing else is. That is the best ting about Jack's. I have eaten here numerous times, and at different hours. Cheap college-town comfort food that can usually be handled by young stomachs is what you will find here. The place reminds me of a Reno breakfast buffet. Three stars for convenience and entertainment value, otherwise 2.5 for food.
The fries were undercooked, the mozzarella sticks were cold, I did not get asked how I'd like my steak. The service was great the place was clean the food was fast. I Didn't feel like the door would hit me on my way out.
They over charged on the bill. Entered and signed for one amount and was charged $7 more
It was alright, not impressed. The food was good but the dinner could use some cleaning as the table I set down at wasn't wiped down at all and the staff could was ok. No impressed but it wasn't terrible, I will revisit soon to give another chance and update my review.
Usually our go to place for breakfast or lunch, but today changed all that. Busy, but not real busy, we stood waiting ten minutes before we were even seated. Then, we asked for coffee, which she brought, but without sweereners on table, so it was ten more minutes before we could drink the now cold coffee. And when we said something, the waitress got an attitude. Food was sub-par too. Super small portion of fries. Burger wy over cooked. Very disappointing!
They look like the cutest little place for your classic old-fashioned Diner breakfast. Their service is not bad but their portions are not good and prices are surprisingly high for place that looks old and rundown. You expect Diner prices at an old Diner. The food and some of the portion sizes were not very impressive either.
Sat on the patio for 20 min( because inside was too peopleie for me,)before wait staff even noticed, took 15 more minutes till I could place my order. Food was hot hash browns tasted like old Greece, other than that not bad. Usually much better
"TOTALLY", Little pieces of, "black", burned bacon in my omlt. The waitress was doing all she could to correct it, brought me some more bacon, which was not ok, then brought some sausage. "Kudos", for her trying to help her customer. The cooks don't, "care", at all!! The mgr should be checking food quality. The cooks do not care whatsoever! Kudos to the waitress.
It really pains me to do this because the owner and servers are very nice people, very friendly, but my concern is about the cleanliness of the restaurant and quality of the food. My job takes my by this place every day, so I dined here every day for 3 weeks. Quality was inconsistent and cleanliness is lacking. I won't say why I stopped eating here because it was a sad situation, but I never returned. I really am sympathetic toward indie businesses and try to support locals, but can't go back. A major problem is the number of shambling human vermin all over the streets of downtown Chico and feel bad for what Jack's owner has to put up with.
This place has gone downhill. Absolutely. I should've known because it was empty on a Saturday night, which used to be busy at that time. Now I know why: the "chili" beams were inedible, bland and suspect. We had to wait for the lone waitress (there were 3 other patrons in the restaurant ) to FINALLY bring coffee. Not a refill, the 1st cup for 20 minutes! The coup de grae: they close at 10 pm, on a weekend night (Saturday). Suffice to say, even the homeless don't go there! Time for new owners and management, seriously. Too bad this Chico icon/landmark is no longer a cool place to hang out at. Bummer :(
I am definitely disappointed with the changes at Jack's... it is no longer a 24 hour diner, now only open from 5am to 3PM. The food and staff seem to have changed along with their hours, and I am equally disappointed with the decline in service and quality. Bummer, I used to love going to Jack's for late night breakfast...
I ordered fish and chips but it was not edible. No seasoning on the fish and the texture was watery as if the cooked just took the fish out of the freezer and dumped them into the fryer. It looked undercooked as it was not flakey when pulled apart. My friend's bacon on her burger was not properly cooked as the fat on the bacon was not rendered and still chewy. The chicken noodle soup broth was chunky with a consistency of oatmeal. I don't recommend bothering with this place even if you are on a budget.
Came for lunch. Nice friendly quick service. But the food was blah.. no taste just bland food .this cook needs to learn what seasoning is for. Badly. Also needs to clean up that beard is uhg sorry for this review but when you pay you expect more. I didn't go eat for free
Food looks like it's been sitting for awhile. Didn't get what we ordered. Everything taste like it was made in old oil. This place needs to be shut down or hire people that actually do their job. I will not longer go there.
I've always loved this place my fiance and I would go once a week just to sit down and go over the week after working. Since the closing time has changed to 3:00 I have not been able to make it to dinner since ! Our jobs are super demanding and require almost every day of the week. If there could be like one or two days that they could open for like an actual dinner again, that would be awesome. That's the only way it can get better.
Owners wife was Our server she has no personality and should not be a server. They should hire someone that is fun and outgoing not a rude person. The food was OK not great.
Waitress was very friendly and they were fast, but the food was gross and way too expensive for the quality. $5.49 for half a waffle for a kid? Drowned in some weird processed strawberry syrup.. Paid extra for a side of rubbery eggs.. kids didn’t even eat it and that’s their favorite meal. French Dip had no flavor either.. ugh I love finding little mom&pop diners but not this one :(
