Just stopped for a drink on our way past. Sat in the garden in the sun. Drinks and service were excellent. A lovely place to visit, we'll be back to try the food!
Visited Thursday 23rd June. This place is beautiful from the outside in. Lovely and homely. Range of lovely drinks and the service was exceptional. The staff really know what they are talking about and are very attentive. The food was absolutely unreal aswel. The first time I have not had to use any salt and pepper on a meal. Great experience, we can't wait to come back. Thank you
1st time visiting, as we're moving into the area. Have to say the food was phenomenal and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately they had an issue with the cellar due to the weather but can't fault them for an act of God! In our book it just gives us another reason to visit again (which we were going to do anyway after the delight that was dinner) to try some of the local draft ales.
Wow - what a find! Fantastic food so beautifully presented in such a relaxed atmosphere. Superb quality and so refreshing to have difficulty choosing from such a varied menu. I never take photos of my food but my chocolate mousse dessert was to die for. Our family will definitely be back.
Brilliant grass roots gastropub. Brilliant service, large yet not overwhelming menu with all sorts of great food for all budgets, food was excellent, was very quiet but still brilliant setup. Will definitely be going back.
Hands down the best roast Iv had, bold statement but true. I’m not one for leaving reviews but this little gem deserves praise and gratitude. Great staff, amazing food, relaxing atmosphere and very family friendly. You will not be disappointed.
Great food. Bit on pricey side but it's good quality. Menu was a bit smaller this time
Amazing food, great friendly staff. Thank you for Ann enjoyable time. Will definitely be back!
Been waiting to try this place for years. Finally booked to come today - best Sunday roast we’ve had in a restaurant, hands down! We will definitely be returning and bringing the family.
Really impressed with the staff, very attentive without being over-bearing. Drinks and food came to us quickly despite it being lunch time. Impressed, and will definitely return!
Fantastic venue in my opinion, few pints classic fish n chips served the Michelin star way at reasonable price.
Five stars all round ,nice old cosy pub, staff made us very welcome, food reasonabley priced compared to other pubs, food top notch. If anything, menu would be better with a couple more vegetarian choices .
Unexpected Gem! We were searching for chicken schnitzel and couldn’t find anywhere nearby that offered it , but ended up here, and wow! The schnitzel was absolutely mind-blowing. Incredible flavor, perfectly cooked. The service and atmosphere were top-notch too. We’re coming back tomorrow for sure! ❤️
Came here to rest from our travels and enjoy some food with drinks. The service was excellent. The food was delicious, quite possibly the best battered cod I’ve ever had. It’s dog friendly here which is a bonus. Walked 40 minutes from the train station to see if it was any good and it was perfect. The pictures on the wall added a nice touch to look at. The toilets were clean and in order. Opening time is 12 midday when food begins. The waitress told us of the specials which all sounded delicious. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a dog menu if your little pup has built up an appetite. The waiter brought my dog some water which was nice. I would highly recommend travellers rest to anyone.
Came to the Travellers Rest tonight after not visiting for a long while. The new owners Dave and Elysia are so lovely and welcoming. We had a table by the fire which was really nice. Service was amazing and the food was delicious. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We will definitely be visiting more often. What a little hidden gem we have found but I don't think it will be a secret for long!
We have visited twice this year and both times have been excellent. The sharing platter to start was one of the best we have ever tasted (please don’t take it off the menu😀). I really enjoyed the steak and ale pie as well. The staff are all very friendly and the pub has a nice cosy atmosphere. It’s great to have two fantastic pubs in Euxton with great food.
Been saying we wanted to try this place for a long time. Finally got round to it and so glad we did. What an absolute treat.. lovely environment, nicely decorated with some quirky extras. Staff were fabulous and made you feel right at home. We were a bit hungry after being stuck in traffic for a while so ordered a few things. To start we ordered cheesy garlic bread, then 3 dishes from the small plates section We ordered: Teriyaki pork - lovely and tender knife slid through it like sliding through butter, really nice sauce. Pigs in blankets glazed in honey mustard - some of the nicest pigs in blankets I've eaten when out .. very move sausage and the bacon cooked to perfection not a burnt bit in sight Chicken dumplings - I'm not a fan of these but had to let the other half pick something, I must admit I did try one and to my surprise I bloody loved it ... It's definitely the best dumpling I've had. Mains: I had the bacon chop with fried eggs, chips and grilled tomato. Really good thick chop hardly any fat cooked well. Really enjoyed it. Other half had salmon wellington with seasonal veg. Pastry was lovely and melted in the mouth, salmon cooked nicely was still nice and moist Excellent food in gorgeous surroundings
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT AND NEW CHEF. Absolute top quality meal at the Travellers Rest for their opening week. Food was top class obviously sourced from quality suppliers. The service was welcoming and staff did everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our visit. I would recommend the Fillet Steak, however others in our party had the Beef Wellington and it looked amazing. I will definitely be visiting again. Oh and give their Quale Egg Scotch Egg a go... you won't be disappointed.
Cannot thank you all enough! Not only did you make us welcome but also our dog Milo! The food was absolutely delicious and the whole night was relaxed. Amazing food, fabulous service, friendly atmosphere and even the toilets sparkled 🤣 could not recommend more, we will see you again on our weekend brakes and birthday celebrations.
My family review of The Travellers Rest, Euxton Take a seat If you’re searching for a slice of traditional English charm, look no further than The Travellers Rest in Euxton. This superb establishment blends the character and warmth of a classic old English pub with the luxury of modern, outstanding food. It’s the kind of place where every detail seems carefully considered, yet it exudes the ease and charm of a timeless, authentic experience. Stepping inside The Travellers Rest feels like a nostalgic journey. For me, it evoked fond memories of the pub my grandfather used to take us to when I was just a young boy. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for couples, families, or anyone seeking a comforting retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. What truly sets this pub apart is its food. (Hats off to the YOUNG MAN... chef) The quality is simply outstanding, elevating traditional pub fare to new heights while retaining the soul and comfort we expect from a place like this. Each dish feels like a carefully crafted homage to English cuisine, while the service adds another layer of delight to the experience. The staff’s attentiveness and warmth make you feel instantly at home. The drink selection is equally impressive. Whether you're a fan of exclusive wines, fine whiskeys, or the best of traditional cask ales, you'll be spoilt for choice. There's something wonderfully luxurious about sitting back with a drink in hand, soaking in the friendly atmosphere while hours drift by. Special praise goes to the new management and team, who have revitalized this venue with such care and attention to detail. Their efforts have transformed The Travellers Rest into an unmissable destination. The blend of modern touches and classic pub charm is masterfully executed, and I’m now a frequent visitor, eagerly anticipating my next trip. If you long for a place that transports you back to the golden days of the traditional English pub experience while delivering top-notch food and service, then The Travellers Rest is a must-visit. It's a beautiful example of how tradition can be preserved and cherished while moving forward with fresh energy. Thank you for keeping the spirit of the classic English pub alive. I really look forward to returning again very soon. Col M.
Great little country pub, with good simple food. We went on the Sunday and had the sharing roast dinner (which was a special) this came with gammon, chicken and beef, this beef was some of the best I've had on a roast to date. The service was perfect, quick and friendly and nothing was to much to ask for. The ambience inside is cozy and warm and slightly romantic as lit candles are on the table. *Please note* This is a dog friendly pub, so a great place if you're out with your little buddy, but if you don't like dogs while you eat then this may not be the place for you.
Perfect three course Sunday roast The food was superb, service excellent and a really lovely atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble for Megan and the team. Definitely recommend and will be back. Thank you
Over the last 20 years we have from time to time visited.... we used to come very often.... not so much now...BUT.. it was recently taken over and the food was spot on! Not too expensive or cheap, freshly cooked, and real good quality. The service staff too were amazing... young people, but with great attitudes, not a vacant look in sight.... we will certainly come back again and more often if it stays like this. P.s... also a great selection of nonalcoholic drinks!!!
WONDERFUL!!! The owner is trained by Marco pierre white himself!!! Excellent food Seevice is second to none Great crowd Lovely interior Highly recommended Can't point that out enough Food was on pont see pictures for yourselves Great relaxed atmosphere Need to return as soon as possible Felt at home Very comfortable with different styled rooms Super tasty food I was full but I wanted more and that's what you want and how you know its a great place to be Quiant Peaceful Dog friendly Really lovely experience Thankyou to all the team Fantastic job well done!!!
Came to celebrate both a birthday and Father's Day combined and we thought here was the perfect location due to elderly family member and having access within (which was fine) 6 of us in total and we all thoroughly enjoyed the 5 course meal which was on offer, different variations of the courses which suited us all and everything was delicious. The staff members were particularly punctual and they deserve full credit as it was full when we were there,So they were kept busy,But everything came together and like I say,was delicious. We certainly recommend coming to The Travellers Rest as it is very welcoming,A lovely, relaxed atmosphere and also a quick mention to the background music which was great to listen to also, a little different to the bog standard that you can quite often get,so that was refreshing also. Each time we come,we always enjoy and definitely worth the visit.
Food was excellent, service was brilliant. Unfair to mark atmosphere as it was middle of afternoon, pro badly a 5 in the evening to night time.definately worth another visit.
We telephoned at 12 to see if they could accommodate a party of 20, at short notice, they said yes. Party age range 85 - 2 years. Staff were absolutely lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Couldn’t fault the food, all arrived piping hot and a lovely variety to choose from. Thank you
Had a lovely Sunday lunch yesterday, this place is fast becoming our favourite . All the staff very helpful and friendly and food value for money. The small dessert option is a great idea - less guilt! Jackie
Just stopped for lunch here today. First visit since new Landlord/Lady has taken over. We were made so welcome. Lovely pub with great service and food was really good. They made our dog welcome also by giving Her treats when We arrived. They also sell Doggie Ice Cream which She loved. We will definitely be going back. Lots of outdoor seating areas for when weather gets warmer.
Absolutely loved the roast 100% cooked to perfection the staff are all helpful and happy a warm welcoming place definitely going back
We decided to pop out for dinner and my wife proposed Travellers Rest. We were not disappointed! Food was absolutely amazing, I even chose to have a dessert and had the rhubarb & Apple Crumble with custard. I cannot recommend Tavellers Rest highly enough.
Delicious meal this week from the festive menu. The food was delicious, and the staff are always friendly and affable. Great place to eat 👍
Fabulous food. Attention by staff re a food allergy. Great service A bit quiet but it was lunchtime, music just right
First time here since it changed hands, and we were pleasantly surprised. We had the fish and chips and a chicken and ham home made pie with mash. The pie was very good and the mash excellent. Maybe the pastry could have been a bit crisper, but didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. The small dessert with coffee is a great idea and the crumble was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly. The value for money was very good. We will be back.
Lovely Sunday lunch, we booked online the day before, and the website was really straightforward. We ordered one of everything from their Sunday roast mains, and they were all exceptional. All the meat was beautifully seasoned and tender. Yorkshires were done properly and very light, lovely gravy. The desserts were superb too, I loved the sticky toffee pudding. Will definitely be coming back!
My wife and I have lived in Euxton for 15 years and in the early days we used to go to Travellers Rest quite a lot but the quality of the food deteriorated significantly so we stopped going… This was our first visit in over 10 years , we decided to give it another go having read the recent reviews online and we weren’t disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady called Robin who was very engaging and very efficient. My wife had Calimari for starters and I had the southern fried chicken strips , both dishes were very good and well presented. For mains my wife had the Cumberland sausage ring and I had the fish and chips, again both meals were very good… Robin was very attentive throughout and the chef even came out to check that our food was okay. The ambience of the pub was very nice with a nice vibe to it. We will definitely be back in the near future.
We pretty randomly stopped by this place and we were immediately charmed. It's really cosy inside, we had a table by the fire which was amazing on a cold day. Our server Grace was so nice and helpful, so attentive, it was a pleasure to talk to her. When we got our food it turned out that it was incredible too! I was so impressed that we had to come back next day and again we had a wonderful experience. They even have little meals for dogs which is so nice and our dog loved it!
Visited with my mum just last week. It is a place we have been to before in the past but it is the first time I have been since the most recent change of management. Atmosphere is very pleasant and welcoming, though the back area does feel a little depressing for my taste with how quiet it is. The food is where I am going to be a bit more critical, but not too much. The food itself is good, but there are issues. The starter, Calamari, was quite sweet thanks to the sauce, but it worked very well, and it was presented in a large clam shell, which I think is brilliant. Topped off with some chillies made for a really good starter. For main, Cheese and Onion Pie, tasted good, but a bit too potatoey for my liking, however the plate felt rather empty. It didn't come with any traditional vegetables on the plate, aside from some beans in a separate dish, which was somewhat disappointing. My mum was also disappointed with the portion of her main considering how pricey the items on the menu are. I feel like the chefs might be trying too hard to be more like a gourmet restaurant, which detracts from the identity of The Travellers Rest, that being a British pub in the middle of the countryside. Overall, while the food tastes really good, the identity of the restaurant akin to its food is missing somewhat, and prices are currently too high, which might explain why the restaurant was a bit quiet that night. I think by slightly altering their portions or slightly lowering their prices, I think they will get more customers, returning customers, and turn a greater profit. But it is a step in the right direction after previous management.
Nice and cosy atmosphere, staff was great. Sad to say that the food left us wishing for more. I had the noodles which were quite bland, and was not impressed with the ingredients quality or taste. However my parents steak was lovely, well cooked and nicely presented.
We had a tasty meal here but it was extremely quiet for a Saturday evening which did impact on the atmosphere. The restaurant is comfortable and has an interesting natural history theme and the bar area is traditional. Prices for meals were a little high but the staff were friendly and polite and the food was well presented. Worth a visit, outside tables at the front for a sunny day.
Very disappointing! Not been here for a few years and after reading the reviews we were really looking forward to trying. We ordered a large beef roast dinner and 2 small chicken dinners, it was so bland and the roast potatoes were anemic. The gravy was like water and for £19 a roast was not what you expected. The cauliflower cheese was probably the highlight but at £4.95 extra you'd expect it to be. Always puts me off when the meal is bulked out with peas. The service was fine and on telling the staff they were very apologetic but no offer of a discount or free drink to compensate was offered. We won't be returning and it's a shame as we take my mother out for a roast quite often.
Booked for nine people, celebrating our mothers 97th birthday. We were welcomed politely and with a smile. After being shown to the table we were informed that three of the main meals weren't available. This disappointed a few of us. It was also a long time before the order was taken, the pub not being overly busy at this point. The food was good when it came with no complaints and everybody enjoyed their meal. The prices are reasonable. This is pub food, not restaurant.
Booked to eat here on Saturday night at 6:30pm. We were sad to see it so quiet on a Saturday evening with only one other family in. The decor is astonishingly smart and really welcoming. The cheese and onion pie was served in a bowl with far far too much cheese sauce (you could hardly see the pie). We thought it was a dessert. The sauce was thick and gloopy and provided an overwhelmingly bland taste, making it very sickly and ruining the whole meal. It was served with chips on the side in a dish - there was no comparison between presentation of the two dishes. With a pie already full of cheese I just don’t know why a sauce (never mind the quantity) is needed. Basically a fondue set instead of a pie and chips - really disappointing and not sure who approved this. The steak and ale pie was nice although the veg tasted past its best. The service we received was impeccable and the young lady who served us provided so much information on the menu and drink options. A beautiful place but with a meal like that it’s hard to focus on anything else, disappointing as could be an award-winning establishment.
Very disappointed with the food this evening..Not been to dine here for a while but definitely won't be returning soon .The Sunday dinner menu is very misleading. Must catch so many people out with the supplement charges!! Was shocked when the bill came,£60 for 2 Sunday dinners😳 and wasn't even worth it hence our complaint..The potatos where shocking to be fair. I'm a food blocker with over ¹/² million followers .Don't like leaving bad reviews but I truly believe honesty is best policy so u can improve 👍
Partner had chicken burger, he said it was ok. I had the fish n chips which was quite overcooked and the fish was grey and brown inside. Not the best…. Would not recommend.
Popped in ordered sunday lunch food 2.15pm..... left 3.25 as still no food Only 2 of us and couple came in after us both had their Sunday roast and had left. After just paying for our drinks we left disappointed.
Booked a meal for 6pm on Sunday we all ordered a roast dinner. Got told 30 minute wait - no problem. 7pm got told sorry no roast dinners left and it was our fault for booking a late meal. Not recommended won't go again
Reviewing on behalf of family i took my dad here for his 50th was excellent before it was took over my mum also has coeliac disease they went out of there way to cater, they returned for there anniversary meal and was totally ruined the waitress didnt know what allergies was what and then they overheard them talking to the chef stating its a diet ‘fad’ they was over charged nearly 10 pounds on a prawn cocktail to be given majority lettuce such a shame as we loved visiting this pub
Met up with a couple of friends for lunch today and very disappointed. It took over an hour to receive our drinks and food due to the lack of serving staff. There was only one person juggling the bar and lots of pre-booked lunches. Food was bland and I had to keep my coat on due to being sat near the door and the draught it produced. We usually order post meal drinks but declined to do so on this occasion due to the length of time it would be to receive it.
Went at lunchtime today. Not too busy, about 8 to 10 tables used. Drink ordered and delivered quickly, food ordered and served in a reasonable time. Finished eating and waited over 20 minutes for our plates to be taken away and to be asked if we wanted a dessert. Our server was sat at another table but on her computer. Decided not to wait any longer, went to bar to pay and got a poor "sorry". Called on colleague from kitchen to clear table. Just not attentive enough.
