It was cute. The food was good! I had the trout, and they changed the seasoning because I can't do spicy. *chef kiss* 👌🏽 Our waiter, Rob, was so much fun to have, and he was very attentive. Would definitely come back.

Loved this place! Me and my wife were in town in our 10th wedding anniversary. Stopped by for dinner, got to listen to live music and sit in courtyard while we waited for our table. Waitress was really nice and made recommendations on the menu. Food was amazing! Highly recommend chicken fried steak and spinach dip. Will be going back next time we are in town.

We absolutely love eating here. The view is beautiful. The atmosphere is great. I can bring my toddler and we highly recommend the spinach artichoke dip. It is the best but everything on the menu is fabulous. I’ve been coming here for 20 years and I will continue to I even used to work here in the past great place !!!

Best onion rings ever. The two of us only ate half of the Texas sized order. Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes were excellent. Portion size of the CFS was 3/4 the size of the small one at Mary's Cafe in Strawn, but in my humble opinion was just as good. We were told we would have a 50 minute wait, but it was less than 30. Appetizers can be ordered in the waiting area while listening to very good live music. I will be back.

We had a really great time here! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. The only downside was how hot it was during our 6pm visit. It would be wonderful if they could add misters or some cooling option for guests dining in the heat (through out not just certain spaces). That said, we’ll definitely be back once the weather cools down a bit, because the food and hospitality make it worth it!

Great food, they offer a big selection so there should be something for everyone. Everything we ordered was delicious. The location is beautiful. Just be aware it is not air-conditioned. They do have fans, and the fresh air flows through the open windows, but with the summer Texas heat it's still warm. The open air views do make for great atmosphere. Overall we enjoyed our visit, and will return, but maybe in the fall/ winter months.

We love this restaurant and we come every time we visit the area. It’s a really cool building situated right by the river in a fun area, so the vibes are great. We had a very kind and attentive server and we were well taken care of. Lots of delicious options on the menu. We would definitely recommend the onion rings, they are the best!

Ambiance: Rustic and hill-country charming restaurant offering gorgeous views of the river and area! We enjoyed sitting on the patio around sunset for dinner and drinks. Fast and friendly service. The pasta salad was refreshing and on the spicy side - unique for sure! All of their appetizers and side dishes were shareable and tasted great. Street and paid parking nearby - Does get crowded! Great spot for tourists, birthdays, celebrations, or just enjoying a day by the river. Walking distance to several other shops/bars/spots. Dog friendly!

Our server Bobby was fantastic. The atmosphere was fantastic. The food wasn’t quite as amazing as the reviews seemed but I won’t judge a restaurant by one visit. Spinach and Artichoke Dip: Delicious. Great choice. Chicken fried steak: Nothing special. Wasn’t bad, but I’ve had better. Fries: they were the large style potato chips. They were fine but could have been cooked more. They were not crispy. Pulled Pork Sandwich: Not thrilled with it. Seemed very juicy, left a bit puddle on the plate. She didn’t love it. Pricing was very fair though and the place was great. We will visit again though and give it another chance.

Been here several times over the years. This time a party of four on a Saturday for lunch. We made reservations, but since it was a cold rainy day, not many people were there. Over half of the tables were empty. We were seated right away, but it took over 10 minutes and finally our asking if we had a server before someone attended to us. During that time we saw quite a few employees standing around and talking. This is not the first time service has been slow and relatively unattentive. Menu is diverse (a bit expensive for the portions....but this is Greune, so expect things to be pricey) and all the food was excellent. From time of actual order to delivery was 21 minutes. Since it was not crowded, the level of noise was considerably lower than usual and that made for a very nice, casual, time to have a conversation that did not compete with others.

This town and restaurant were recommended to me so had to stop. Ordered a carryout from the bar around the side of the restaurant. Got the Baby Back Ribs with round cut fries and upgraded the 2nd side to onion rings for $7 more. You only get 6 onion rings though so I definitely would not do that again considering the other sides that come with are $4.99 & $5.99. It would be worth it if you got more than 6 but that's like $2 an onion ring. They are good but I've had better. Either way, the food is good. Ribs were fall off the bone. Loved the decor. Upside down Christmas tree hanging from the rafters was fun. Friendly staff. They had live music setting up as I was leaving. Nice big area outside to sit. Even have a seesaw in the back corner.

The Gristmill is famous for a reason! We came from out of town to enjoy all Gruene has to offer in the holiday season, and stopping by to eat here is a must. Don’t let the estimated wait time fool you, ours said 50 mins but the text let us know our table was ready in like 20 mins! Had the amazing onion rings, and chicken fried chicken and CFS, all really good. The service and ambience is great for such a busy place, food came out fast and hot! Also had a jalapeno marg that hit the spot. We’ll be back around tubing season!!!

We had a wonderful server. The food was just ok. Pricey for the grilled chicken salad and not very big for $20. The onion rings were too big for my liking, but love their homemade ranch. It's a touristy restaurant and we went because we had out of state guests. Will I drive from SA just to eat there? No, but for tourists, it's good.

Great place to visit while you are visiting Gruene, Tx. Smack dab right by the Iconic Dance Hall its a capped a Great Night out with some Friends. No wait we were seated promptly. Onion Rings were outstanding fresh out of the fryer. Baby back Ribs fall off the bone. Mushrooms side dish was exquisite. Chip style fries was a nice touch to the menu. Wait staff very friendly restrooms were clean with working dual towel dispensers. Decor was pleasant to the eyes. I will be back next visit in.

Seems this place has really gone downhill from the last time I was there several years ago. I usually go to Mozie’s across the street, but was craving a chicken fried steak, which didn’t disappoint, but the potatoes were cold and flavorless and the squash casserole was just raw zucchini and squash with parm and bacon bits sprinkled on top. I took the food home and fixed it up like it needed to be fixed and watched the game across the street at Mozie’s with a good drink and great garlic parm fries. Lots of school aged kids given job opportunities, but they were just taking up space and not enhancing anyone’s experience except their own. They looked like they were having a great time being there, but nobody came to my table for quite some time. When my server finally was assigned or came, he was great. The blackberry bourbon drink tasted like a well drink with sprite. I was really excited about trying it and then felt like I was at a cheap college bar when I had my first taste.

The building is rustic a very unique place to eat. This review is from last October. The service I received was the worst. Our food came out sporadic. By the time the last plate was served the first plate was finished. I had order Deep Fried Catfish Filet with Yellow & Green Squash. We are ready to leave and I still hadn't received my squash. The waitress kept tell me your squash will be here soon. After shot wait she then brought me some green beans. To which I didn't want, my sister had a few but must of the beans went uneaten.
