This place nails every category!! The food is amazing! The service is fantastic! The atmosphere is phenomenal! We went to celebrate a birthday. We found street parking but there is garage parking near by. We had a reservation, our seats were available upon arrival. Our waitress was so bubbly & friendly. I asked her what was her favorite appetizer, it was the empanadas. OMG! The were amazing. We had the steak with Mac & cheese and the gnocchi with short ribs. They were both delicious & cooked perfectly. We didn’t have room for dessert. They have a really nice bar, I was surprised to see it with only a few people.
Butcher and Barrel is an absolute 10/10! This place nails everything: incredible food, cool rustic-chic vibe, and the most welcoming atmosphere whether you're flying solo at the bar or rolling in with a party of 20. We loved how easy it is to go from super casual (jeans and a flannel) to dressed-up date night without ever feeling out of place. The menu is packed with creative, perfectly executed dishes — the steaks are insane, the sides are addictive, and those appetizers disappear fast. Cocktails are spot-on too; the bartenders clearly take pride in what they pour. Service is warm, attentive, and never rushed, even when they’re busy. Reservations are a breeze, but we’ve also walked in and grabbed a seat at the gorgeous bar with no problem. Perfect for a quick bite, a celebration, or anything in between. Cincinnati, you’ve got a new favorite — Butcher and Barrel is a must-try and already on our “go back ASAP” list! 🥩🍸🤩
Fantastic meal & Fantastic service on a very busy Christmas eve! Food was cooked to perfection exactly as requested, med rare. Prices are a bit high. Your in the middle of the city, getting a quality experience. Worth the price! A++ There's street parking or a self parking garage 3 min walk past hotel. It's not bad. If your in the area wanting something nice I recommend.
Best steakhouse! Have traveled the world and been to lots of steak houses/restaurants and they do not compare. The flavors are always amazing. Service is spectacular and the drinks are great as well! Have been over a dozen times and keep going back. Highly recommend!
We had dinner here last night and had an excellent time. The cocktails were delicious (New Rift old fashion and lemon drop martini) we ordered the special 32 oz tomahawk steak special and the parrillada for two. They were at our preferred temperature perfectly. The provoleta app were a wonderful way to start our meal. Highly recommended. Shout out to Ethan for the great service for our party of 9.
We had dinner at the Butcher and Barrell in downtown Cincinnati while in town to watch the Lions defeat the Bengals and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! They have a large variety of meat cuts and old fashioned cocktails to choose from. The Australian Waygu steak was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the smashed redskin potatoes with goat cheese!
Food was delicious! Definitely recommend for anyone to try at least once. Lobster ravioli was my favorite entree and appetizers were bruschetta and the tuna tartar.
Pictured is the chicken napoleon, surf & turf, short rib gnocchi, fried deviled eggs, empanada trio, creme brûlée, chocolate cheesecake, and bread pudding with 3 menu cocktails and 3 strawberry lemon lemon drop martinis. Everything was a flavor explosion and well curated flavor profiles. Service was slow but she was very nice and recommended these great options!
Absolutely fantastic meal. Everything was delicious, service was stellar. Very much enjoyed our first visit and will definitely be returning!
We went to celebrate my son graduating high school. Josh was our waiter and he was fantastic! Kudos on the most exceptional service. He talked about the menu, made recommendations, answered any questions we had and was the most friendly gentleman! We had a variety of food. Appetizers were fried deviled eggs and the empanada trio. I could have eaten all the fried deviled eggs because they are so good! My main course was Skirt Steak Gnocchi which I give 10/10 highly recommend! One person has the Surf and Turf and he said it was really great. Another person in our party had the 20 oz bone in ribeye and he said it was Devine. Another person had the 16 oz ribeye and enjoyed every bite. The youngest in the group got Mac and Cheese with fries and was happy with that. For dessert we had the Tiramisu Mousse, the Bread Pudding, Hazelnut Crème Brûlée, and the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake. Every one of them was delicious! My favorite was the crème brûlée!
The meal we had here while visiting the area on a work trip was one of the best meals I believe any of us have ever had! Our waiter was very friendly and very helpful! I personally had a filet and a side of Mac and cheese with the bread service and it was to die for! I will definitely be returning to this restaurant if I am ever in the Cincinnati area again, or I might just have to make a special trip!
Great interior in this restaurant. Super clean. Staff was very friendly. Provoleta was fantastic. This is a must if you eat here. Papas Brava and Mac N Cheese was very good. Wife’s filet was cooked perfect. Only negative was my strip was under in my opinion. I asked for Medium Plus. It was more rare to medium to me. Didn’t ruin the meal and I don’t typically send stuff back so I made due with it. I’d eat here again. I was eyeing up that Empanada appetizer and dessert for next time. No room this time.
Excellent choice for any occasion. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was very classy but without all the stuffiness of other similar steak houses. The staff were all very accommodating and really made you feel like you were in great company. I would definitely recommend "Dinner for 2".
Our last several experiences at area restaurants left us disappointed in the fine dining experience. Butcher and Barrel knocked it out of the park!!! Jennifer and Kyle provided stellar service, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the food was beyond excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant!!! We’ll definitely be back!
THIS PLACE! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ We had one of be best dinners of our lives last night. I asked on Facebook where I should take Lauren to celebrate her kicking butt in everything and @jamesmkarlson recommended @butcherandbarrel. So we booked a reservation and OMG. They made it such a special experience for Lauren. Jennifer (adore her) started out seating us with a note congratulating her, a little bracelet, and non alcoholic champagne😍 she was ecstatic. Like, come on, how freaking adorable is that! Now the food….we went HAM. *Tuna tartare with fried avocado, hearts of Palms, jalapeño crema, and rice crisps. Lauren ate it all! I had one bite. *truffled deviled eggs. Lauren doesn’t even like deviled eggs. These were for me. She said it was one of her favorite things. *Lobster bruschetta. Rich, buttery, and fresh. My favorite appetizer. Then the main 🎤 drop. Australian A5 Wagyu cooked to mother freaking perfection. I died. Then they surprised us with a dessert trio. * hazelnut fig jam crème brûlée. Crème brûlée is our favorite dessert of all time and this was one of the best ones. I asked him if he got the recipe from Jimmy Gibson before he passed away because it tasted just like Jimmy Gs. And if you’re in Cincy, you know what I’m talking about. * tiramisu. We were stuck, but we somehow managed to get this down also. Toffee and chocolate mousse and everything you want it to be. * Cream puff with a lemon sauce and berries. It was the perfect ending to such a phenomenal meal. It was light, but it was good and thank God we walked a mile and a half to from the red stadium because we were beyond full. I 💯 recommend! The food was outstanding. I love little tapas plates for the price and selection. I’ve never really had much Argentinian food, but this was next level. I can’t wait to go back.
This was our first visit, and we were impressed. The low-key atmosphere was nice, and the food delicious. We dined for Valentine's Day, so they had some special food and drink offerings not on the normal menu (such as the creme brulee). We both had the short rib gnocchi (divine) and half-salads and desserts. This is the kind of place where you could order anything on the menu and it will be good. You are limited only by your appetite and your credit card (it's not cheap). One odd occurrence was a panhandler entering the restaurant and asking us and others for money. They were escorted out pretty quickly. I have never seen that before, but this is downtown Cincinnati - for better or worse.
I ordered the empanadas and papas bravas. I did switch out the rib for another chicken. Served with both red and green chimichurri; both very good. The potatoes came out with a tangy sauce that I would say is similar to Thousand Island dressing. I did ask for ranch, and they were much better with the ranch to dip in. Also, the Raspberry Sorbet is soft and creamy. Delish! Jen, my waitress was awesome! I will definitely come back and try something different. Yum!
Great option for a steakhouse in the heart of downtown. The deviled eggs looked great & the tuna tartar had fried avocado (a great twist on the dish). The steak was excellent and pricing was not bad for a 14oz ribeye. I would definitely return & try some more options.
What a delicious find! We went there for our Anniversary. First, our server Ethan was amazing! Sadly, I have a food allergy and he was very helpful with making sure I was taken care of. Second, the food was delicious! The Barrata Capreses salad was so fresh. I could eat that on a daily! I ordered the Filet Au Poivre, the Filet was cooked perfectly. The sauce was mouth watering. They gave us dessert and Champagne on the house. But the Ricotta bread pudding was delightful!
My husband and I love everything about this place. Ethan, our server was incredible, with plenty of great recommendations. I love their chorizo meatballs. I would recommend their lobster ravioli. So many other great things in their menu, we just didn't have room to try. This is a must if you're visiting Cincinnati.
Best restaurant ever. Jennifer was our waitress, she is absolutely amazing, very caring and gentle. We enjoy our experience very much and recommend this place. We definitely return soon. Thank you Jennifer.
Phenomenal experience! We had a reservation and got to the restaurant a bit early. We sat and the bar where we enjoyed an Ultra and Raspberry Jalapeno Paloma, which was unique and quite refreshing with a little of kick. We were then seated and Jennifer was our waitress. Her recommendations were all great and she went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience! We enjoyed the experience for 2 which we would highly recommend! The brussel sprouts were our favorite side but the asparagus and fries were great as well! We then enjoyed an affogato which was to die for!
Trey was an amazing waiter and provided great recommendations for my 1st at the restaurant. He was friendly and made the night great!!! The food was too notch Ordered the Sharable meat dish for two, medium rare and was delicious, had crème brûlée, meatballs and gnocchi!! All tasted amazing!!! Highly recommend!!!
Had an amazing time here. Great vibe and amazing service. Make sure you have a reservation! But it is possible to find a seat at the bar if you forget (: The hosts and bartender (Mitch) were amazing. So was our server Ethan! The food here is always great! I have been once before during a Cincinnati food event and had the best Lamb chops I have ever had. I’ve been keeping an eye out hoping they come back! I had the Short Rib over Gnocchi and it was exactly what I needed! So good. I can’t go anywhere without getting mashed potatoes, they were good too. My boyfriend had the Eggplant Milanesa and ate every bit! The must have was definitely the Empanadas! We had the Korean BBQ and the Spinach. I’ve been thinking about them ever since. I also enjoyed the jalapeño Raspberry margarita. I plan on coming back very soon!
Had our anniversary dinner and it was great! All the staff were super friendly and very generous. Filet mignon was perfection!
Butcher and Barrel has been a recent addition to my “must go back to” list. After waiting slightly too long to book a reservation for New Year’s Eve, I was scrolling through open table looking for a table for two somewhere nice, saw they still had some tables open, and recognized the name as having been recommended to me by a few different friends so I decided to give it a booking. For New Year’s Eve they had a prefixed menu, but I will say it had a much better variety then anywhere else I looked which was especially good for someone a little picky like myself. The meal was three courses plus an optional add on desert which we couldn’t help but take part in. The food in all the courses was absolutely delicious, we were in heaven the whole time. I got the scallops, caesar salad, and short rib gnocchi, and apple empanada. My girlfriend got the crab cake, beet salad, steak, and cheesecake. All the meat and seafood was perfectly cooked, I went out on a limb trying the scallop and was glad I did. The short rib gnocchi is single handedly one of the best dishes I’ve had in Cincinnati since moving here about 5 years ago. Not only was the food amazing but so was the service! I don’t drink alcohol and when it came time for the champagne toast I told our waitress that and she took it upon herself to make us a couple mock tails so that we didn’t get left out. All around an amazing experience for New Year’s Eve dinner and we plan on going back to experience the full menu sometime soon!
First off we came here to get something to eat before the Billie concert and I got the short rib gnocchi, also ordered burger and salmon. Let me just say this short rib gnocchi was soooooooo good. The only downfall was that I ate it too fast. If you come here , I highly recommend it. Bon appetit.
Great place to have a drink and dinner. My wife and I loved going there. They have a good selection of quality bourbons at great prices. The steak was fantastic as well as the gnocchi and brussel sprouts. Mitchell was our bar tender and did a wonderful job. Great conversation and a great evening.
We came to Cincinnati for a concert and stubbled across this restaurant. It was hard to decide what we wanted to try. It all sounded so good. The food is Latin American inspired. They had a good selection of draft beer and mixed drinks. We started with the Bruschetta. The flavors mixed perfectly and was so flavorful. My husband had the 22 ounce bone-in ribeye and it was cooked exactly as he requested. He added the Wild mushroom demi-glace. It was enough for both of us to use. I had the 8 ounce filet and again it was cooked perfectly. I added Garlic roasted mushrooms and onions and was glad I did! We got shared sides and I highly recommend the Mac and Cheese. Penne pasta, three cheese fondue, melted provolone, and toasted breadcrumbs. I will be trying to recreate this!! The bread pudding for dessert was delicious as well. Do yourselves a favor and try this restaurant if your in Downtown Cincinnati. The dining experience was exceptional from start to finish.
A unique place in the middle of Downtown Cincinnati serving Argentinean cuisine. I went with three other friends for a dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the decor, lights and ambience inside. The inside is spacious and there's outdoor seating available as well. The food was delightful and the staff were one of the friendliest I've met!
Delicious dinner on date night. We chose the dinner for two to try everything. Next time, I’ll do the skirt steak and shrimp, as those were the best of the bunch. Standouts: the charred lettuce on the salad and the red chimichurri.
This place is amazing! Went there for a private event and the staff was amazing. Everything was setup perfectly for our event and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, even offering to run to radio shack to get extra cables. The food was great! It was a unique mix made by their chef, who also owns two other amazing restaurants in the Cincinnati area. The venue is super unique, with solid wood tables, live edge tops, unique barrel tables, awesome decorations and lighting. I'd recommend this for anyone, whether you're a party of two or forty!
I went there last night with a friend and everything we had was outstanding. We shared three items off of the appetizer list and they were all amazing and were beautifully presented. Great atmosphere too. Certainly not the cheapest restaurant in town, but it was well worth it.
Service was perfect, Brittany was awesome and knew we were in a rush, but still managed to get a second cocktail in! The food was outstanding, we just had some apps and a side, delish! And the vibe was cozy chic on a winters night.
We came here for our anniversary and it was perfect! The hostess was so friendly and our server, Jennifer was amazing. The drinks were great and we shared the experience for two and it was beyond delicious! Officially our favorite place to celebrate. Thank you again Jennifer for everything!
Absolutely loved my experience! Food was amazing! Jennifer was my waitress and she killed it! She went above and beyond knowing it was my birthday! Will definitely be back not only for the food but to see her! Thanks Jennifer!
10/10 recommend! The food was all so delicious. My husband and I shared The Argentine Parrillada Experience for Two, which was a feast for the eyes, nose as well as the stomach. We also got the bread service, it came out warm and the crust was salty which was a nice surprise. The Cesar salad was one of the best I have had. The decor and atmosphere was lovely and was warm and inviting. If you are looking for nice date nice check this place out.
Dont normally eat out at such placed but im glad I did. The server at the bar was amazing from step 1 to 10. Not only did he recommend a drink for someone like me who doesnt partake in such activity much, he also recommended a dish that was not only well seasoned, cooked and portioned, that I will be coming here again. If youre on the fence about
Excellent food and service. The Argentinian Clam Chowder was absolutely amazing. Also had the picanha and a side of Brussels sprouts. Both were perfectly done. Our waiter was also pleasant, helpful, and attentive. This is a great spot to eat.
This place is a hidden gem in Downtown Cincy. I recently celebrated my birthday with my wife and another couple, it was our first time eating there. The service was top-notch, thanks to our server Jesse! She was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Each one of us enjoyed our meal; I highly recommend the NY Strip and the Brussel sprouts. My wife really enjoyed the frites. The cocktails were also great: If you like bourbon, get their barrel-aged Manhattan. Since we were celebrating my birthday, our server offered me a free dessert. However, I was too full and declined. As a result, our server took one of my cocktails off our bill instead! I've never had that offered to me before and it was an excellent touch! We will definitely be back!
This place was awesome. The service was top-notch from being sat down quickly and being greeted with a smile. The atmosphere was a perfect rustic vibe. The food options were unique and didn't disappoint, but they didn't blow me away except for the deviled eggs. The deviled eggs were amazing. We ordered the deviled eggs and bruschetta as appetizers. For our main entree, we ordered the 30-day dry aged ribeye, Australian Waygu ribeye, and a New York Strip. We ordered Fries, Mac and Cheese, Asperges, Gnocchi, and Brussel sprouts. Overall the food was really good. The steaks were over salted for our liking. They also put cheese on Asperges, which was new for us and truly wasn't our cup of tea. Along with the balsamic vinegar dressing that was on the Brussel sprouts. To finish the night off, we shared a tirimisu. Which wasn't made like the traditional ones we had. It had a really good flavor and an almost Gelato texture. The alcohol added was a large part of the flavor and was well balanced.
We had reservations for 2. We showed up ~30min early for our reservation. The staff at the check-in counter wasn't very friendly. Even though there were open tables and people leaving they refused to seat us until we were within 5min of our reservation time. Once seated our server was friendly and the food we ordered arrived quickly. We ordered a beer and an Old Fashion Manhattan. For our meal we ordered 3 empanadas (2 Korean BBQ and one chicken), braised short rib with gnocchi, & butcher fries. Everything tasted great and was prepared well. The short rib with gnocchi tasted great, I would get it again. The Butcher fries were crispy and tasty.
Made reservations and sat in the front room, was great to hear live music and neat ambiance! There seemed to be only one bartender which made for longer time for drinks, food came out quick and our server was very nice. The food was good, not great, but good: Empanadas: wish there was more seasoning, the pastry itself was good, but the inside needed more flavor- especially the Chicken Salsa Verde (there was no salsa verde) & the Korean BBQ was just dried meat.. 3/5 Short rib Gnocchi: worth it! 5/5 Skirt steak: 5/5! Brussel sprouts: not crispy, ehhh... 2/5 Mac and Cheese: creamy inside and crispy on top 4/5 Bread Putting: 5/5!
We ordered the experience for 2. It was really good. The ribs were delicious. The strip steak was good and the chorizo was good. The Brussel sprouts were delicious! (Best part) and the fries were good. I didn't like the salad much.
Nice space, food was good but not amazing. Service was cheerful but very slow. Our Argentine friends gave it a "meh" for " is it authentic?".
I made a reservation at Butcher and Barrel specifically for one person, hoping for a smooth and comfortable dining experience. When I arrived, the host seated me at a very tall four-seat table. Since I was dining alone, I politely asked if I could have a lower table with fewer chairs. Unfortunately, the request didn’t seem well received. The host told me they were “overbooked” and suggested moving me to a back room instead. I didn’t want to argue, so I agreed. However, when we went to the back room, it was completely empty there were no other guests. While the back room was quiet, which I didn’t mind, I was disappointed by the interaction. The main reason I made a reservation and clearly noted it was just for one person was to avoid this kind of awkward experience. The food and atmosphere may be enjoyable, but the initial hospitality and how a simple seating request was handled could be improved, especially for solo diners.
A nice place but overpriced for sure. $300+ for 3 of us with a shared appetizer and dessert and 3 drinks. At this price I would expect white table cloth service and what we experienced was more like Applebee’s service. It wasn’t bad but it certainly didn’t live up to the price. For one, they sat us at a bar table even though we had a reservation a week in advance. Server was slow to greet us and although he was friendly he didn’t really take the time to engage. The Empanada trio was delicious but after clearing the appetizer plates the bus person told us to save our silverware even though we asked if it would be refreshed for our entrees. So we laid our used silverware down on the bare wooden table top for the next course. Yuck! We had the Coulette Pichana steak (which the server couldn’t explain), the Lobster Ravioli and the Short Rib Gnocchi. Everything was delicious although greatly overpriced. Drinks were slow to come to the table when we first arrived. Several dark TVs at the bar led us to believe they didn’t work and took away from making the atmosphere livelier. It’s hard to recommend against this restaurant since the food was so good but we know there are many other options in the area for better value and better service. We dined at The Eagle the next night and absolutely loved it (great food and value).
Reserved for a large party and it was quick and easy on a Tuesday evening. Service was good but a slightly delayed. I ordered the 10oz Skirt steak. At $34 (at my time of dining), it was quite pricey. Ordered it a medium rare and it was more on the rare side. It was good but not otherworldly. The dip was a nice addition. All the people at my table ordered medium rare but most got more on the rare side. The fries were crispy and nicely seasoned and white delicious. The atmosphere was good, though.
Stopped in for a couple of drinks after dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender seemed to take a bit to approach us. They were moderately busy that evening, but the bartender was friendly once she came. They have a nice assortment of cocktails and wines by the glass. Overall, not a bad place to stop in for a drink.
Typically not one to complain, but our experience was quite frustrating. The service was extremely slow, even though the rest of the restaurant wasn’t very busy. The food was very average, with many entrees and sides being forgotten about and showing up 30 minutes after others had already received theirs. We had to seek out the manager in order to get our check after spending over 2 hours in the restaurant. It is definitely an expensive place to eat, so tread with caution when visiting.
