Opinions de Madre Café Ciudad De México
So good we had to go twice! Make reservations, otherwise you risk waiting in long lines. It’s so good that people wait in long lines. The crowd is a mix of locals and tourists. The setting is beautiful old mansion with patio and rooftop, as well as indoor seating. They are busy, hustling and bustling. Great cocktails and food - perfect brunch spot. Despite being so busy and long lines, they don’t rush you out to turn a table - thank you for that! We were able to truly relax into our brunch. We started with mimosas and couple items from the fresh bakery basket. Do try the filled croissants- they are so fresh and good, buttery flakey heaven. Coffee menu has everything. Food was fantastic. Menu is a combination of Mexican favorites and contemporary items like avocado toast. We opted for Mexican and local plates. It didn’t disappoint! We sat at the patio. While busy and loud, we were not bothered and could easily carry on our conversation. They have shades, umbrellas as well as heat lamps for chilly days. We loved every minute of it. Also around the corner, in the same mansion they have the light grab and go type cafe. It’s same place with lighter things, some tables and friendly staff. We couldn’t get the rooftop reservations, hopefully next time we get to check that out too! Highly recommend this spot, don’t wait, make a rezzie! Enjoy!
Not only is the atmosphere so cute with their outdoor seating, but the food was immaculate. Ask for the green juice💚 I ate the Squash Flower omelet wanting something authentic and different and the flavor of the sauce was so good. Veggies inside were perfectly seasoned. So glad we stopped by here!
Madre Café is one of the most beautiful brunch spots I’ve visited in Mexico City. The setting is what really makes it special. It’s located in a restored house in Roma with a leafy courtyard and rooftop seating that creates a relaxed and stylish vibe. The food was fresh and well presented. I had the salmon gravlax Benedict and it was excellent. Coffee was strong and well made. Service was friendly and attentive the entire time, even when the place was packed. It does get busy, especially on weekends, so I’d recommend making a reservation if you want outdoor seating. Prices are a bit higher than average, but you’re paying for the setting and the overall experience, which I think is worth it. Highly recommend for brunch or a casual meal with friends in a great atmosphere
I've been here maybe 20 times or so over the years. They're somewhat famous for their pancakes and carajillos, which are truly excellent, but for me, their god-tier French toast really is the ticket. I go here exclusively for that now, easily the best in CDMX. Only 190 pesos at this time of writing, fantastic value for what it is, esp. at a restaurant of this stature. The restaurant itself is just gorgeous. I imagine it was originally was a colonial mansion of some sort... perhaps it once existed at a museum, or an art gallery, etc. It really is just a stunning location, and the interior design, tables, place wear, etc, is all fantastic. Absolutely top spot. And the service has always been impeccable and efficient. Despite being a large restaurant w/ lightning fast service, it can get slammed at brunch time w/ waits approaching an hour in the line outside the restaurant. Every time I've had a reservation we've been seated within five minutes, so really recommend you have one.
A friend of mine who visited CDMX last week highly recommended this place and it was only a couple of blocks from our hotel, so we thought we would give it a try. Google said reservations were recommended so I made a reservation for 6:00 pm. We finished our shopping early and arrived about 5:15, but they happily seated us early. We got our drinks quickly and our server took our order. While her English wasn't very good and our Spanish was even worse, she was friendly, helpful and knew the menu well, so ordering was easy. We shared the stuffed squash blossoms. They were stuffed with goat cheese, coated in panko and lightly fried. Absolutely delicious The blossoms were accompanied by a macha passion sauce that was very nice. My wife ordered the rib eye tacos and she said they were amazing. They looked really good, served on blue corn tortillas and filled with the steak, cheese and greens. My wife usually doesn't finish her meals, but she ate every last bite. I ordered the mushroom mac and cheese which was made with truffle oil. There were several different types of cheese, the oasta was cooked perfectly, and the portion was huge. I couldn't finish it, but I wanted to--it was that good. We fully intended to share a dessert, but we were both too full, so we will have to start with dessert next time :).
I was out with friends for dinner and drinks, unfortunately it was raining and we couldn’t sit outside, but the ambience inside was nice too. I got the red fruit mezcalita, the brownie carajillo and the mushroom mac and cheese with truffle oil. They were all delicious and the service was really good.
madre café is such a cute spot in the city. we love the lush green surrounding & being able to sit outside. each dish we ordered was delicious! we went on a weekday so didn’t experience any issues with waiting, etc (which i saw was a problem for some in others’ reviews). overall we had a great experience with our food, service, and atmosphere ✨
Madre Café is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and savor every moment. Tucked away in a beautiful part of Mexico City, it offers a picture-perfect setting for an outdoor meal, especially on a warm sunny day. The courtyard is lush and inviting with just the right mix of comfort and charm to make you feel like you’ve discovered a little secret spot. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm and welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly and patient, giving me the chance to practice my Spanish without pressure while also smoothly switching to English when I got stuck. It made the whole experience feel relaxed and easy, like dining with old friends. I ordered the Benedictines with salmon gravlax and I am still thinking about that dish. Perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. It was easily one of the best things I have eaten on this trip. I also ordered two margaritas and they were fantastic. Strong, refreshing, and full of flavor with pours that were more than generous. Everything felt indulgent but never over the top. This is not just a place to grab a meal. It is where you go to enjoy the ambiance, the service, and the little details that make for a memorable dining experience. I cannot wait to come back.
Madre Café was such a wonderful experience for our group of 17 ladies. They welcomed us so warmly and had a beautiful long table set up so we could all sit together, which was perfect for our group. Appetizers came out right away while we waited for drinks, and the drinks were fun, creative, and so good! The staff was incredibly patient and kind — they worked with us effortlessly despite our mix of broken Spanish and non-Spanish speakers. Food came out quickly, everything was delicious, and the service was fantastic from start to finish. Highly recommend Madre Café — they made our group dinner feel so easy and enjoyable!
We attended their brunch service and loved it so much, we came back for dinner the same day! Our dinner server, Abraham, was the most polished, professional and genuine hospitality worker we encountered in all of CDMX!! The selection was great and allowed me to eat unrestricted as a vegetarian AND allowed my friend who is the complete opposite to have great meals. 100% dog friendly inside or outside. Beautiful ambiance.
We were recommended this place and luckily got a reservation (definitely make one). I loved the food so much that I wanted to try their lunch too! Next time I will definitely try their lunch foods (available after 2PM). Mexican brunch is great and we had enmoladas, enchiladas, chilaquiles and banana pancakes for something sweet. The pancakes were perfect, so soft and huge! The enmoladas were my favorite and the steak on the chilaquiles was so soft and tender. You also have to admire the tasteful beautiful decor and artwork all over the restaurant. Best brunch I’ve had in a while!
Highly recommend making a reservation to avoid weekend lines. We were sat immediately on a late Saturday morning. Ordered... Fruit plate...1 star Chilaquiles w egg and green salsa...3 stars Eggs Benedict...4 stars Avocado toast...4 stars Avoid... The fruit plate was very small. Neighbor ordered the same and was given a much bigger portion. Chilaquiles were meh... presentation and flavor quite ordinary. Order... the eggs benedict and avocado toast for their flavor and presentation. Highly recommended. Space ... Gorgeous setting. We were away around the building and somewhat forgotten about. But the setting was still lovely. If you go on a slow day (weekday perhaps?) I recommend the upstairs.
Unfortunately, Cafe Madre felt more like a tourist trap than a quality brunch spot. The food was disappointing — my chai latte was so sweet I couldn’t even finish it, and the overall quality was pretty low. The service was also slow; my pancakes came out first and were just okay, but my main dish (the Benedict) took a long time and wasn’t good at all. It’s a nice space with good ambience, but that’s really the only reason to go. I wouldn’t recommend it for the food or service.
Madre Café is located in a beautiful old house, adding to its charm. If you plan to visit on a weekend, it’s best to make a reservation to avoid long waits. The presentation of the dishes is quite appealing, but taste-wise, the food didn’t impress me. I tried the sourdough toast, and the bread itself lacked flavor. However, the hot chocolate was excellent and definitely worth trying. One downside is that, due to the high volume of visitors, the waitstaff seems too busy to keep tables and seats clean, which can be a bit off-putting. Overall, Madre Café has a lovely setting, but the food and cleanliness could be improved.
⭐️⭐️ – Overrated, Overpriced, and Honestly a Letdown 💸🥶👎 Madre Café was highly recommended, but unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. From the moment we arrived, it felt more like we were in the way than welcome guests. There was a long wait, and once we finally got seated, the staff barely acknowledged us. It took forever just to place an order, and once we did, no one ever came back to check on us. The menu is very limited, and when our food finally arrived, it was served cold. No apology, no explanation—just dropped on the table like it was no big deal. The server never even asked if we liked our meal, which says a lot about the level of service here. Yes, the location is pretty and the decor is nice, but the vibe is totally off. It’s crowded, overpriced, and clearly running on aesthetic alone. If you’re here for Instagram pics, maybe you’ll enjoy it—but if you’re here for an actual good dining experience, you’re better off spending your money literally anywhere else in the area (and trust me, there are plenty of better options nearby). Definitely disappointing, and I would not return.
I had heard mixed reviews about this place before trying it, so I was hesitant. On the positive side, the space is absolutely gorgeous. It has outdoor dining space and a bar. However, the food for the price is below average compared to what you can expect in Mexico City. I decided to just order drinks and a small appetizer to share. The drinks were overpriced and disappointing. The waiter noticed that we were tourists and didn’t give us the remaining alcohol in a bottle like the other people sitting across the table from us. I don’t understand why this bothered me, but it did. In conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s overhyped because it looks beautiful, but the food is below average. If you’re looking for a place to check out, I suggest ordering drinks and a small appetizer.
