Opinions de Molina El Pujol Ciudad De México
Hands down my favourite place to eat in Mexico city. Only regret is that we tried this place so late in our travels that we could only go there twice before leaving. Best esquites and tamales I have ever had anywhere. Personally I really don't understand some of the comments about bad service. I found everyone to be very polite and helpful.
This was the best service I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. The number of servers seemed overwhelming at first but they worked so quietly and in unison they anticipated all of our needs before we even needed to ask. The food. It truly was worth every peso. I’m not a huge fan of mole, but their mole madre was so much more than just mole. My favorite dishes were the ceviche and mini corns. I got a non alcoholic Agua Fresca drink that was made with mangos and it was so delicious. The hot chocolate after dessert was also so so good. Highly recommend it if you’re able to. It’s very pricey, but the experience was absolutely amazing.
Delicious food and surprisingly budget friendly- must try the sope de pulpo (absolutely unforgettable), taco de huitlacoche, and concha (fluffiest and airiest piece of bread I’ve ever had). Wait was long, serving time was even longer and not very systematic- had to remind the staff a few times about missing order but overall a good place to have a nice, satisfying, carb-heavy Mexican breakfast. Will definitely come back again!
The quesadilla with epazote is as simple as it is perfect: the corn tortilla is outstanding, the Oaxaca cheese is delicious, the epazote adds freshness, and the salsas are the cherry on top. For 55 pesos (around USD 3), it’s a flawless quesadilla. If possible, buy some Oaxaca cheese to go — it’s the true star of the dish. I also tried the octopus sope. The octopus is very well cooked, but the dish overall is just okay. One downside: the chairs are not comfortable, which slightly affects the overall experience.
As a Mexican, I don’t think you’re making a mistake by coming here, but I wouldn't call it a 'must' in Mexico City. The food is not bad, but it’s not fantastic either (you can find the same quality at a less famous, more local spot). Honestly, I wouldn't wait in line again or deal with the terrible attitude of the cashier for what I received. I tried the tamal de mole, champurrado, beans and tortillas.
Went to Molino and found this little gem wandering around the area of our hotel. We loved it the first time, we went back a second. However, our second time wasn't great--To the point we left before ordering after sitting there for 25 minutes without anyone coming to us to take our order (hence the 2 star service rating). So, we're going to focus on the first time because it was spectacular. And I'd still go back with just more assertiveness with flagging someone down if needed. We sat outside and ordered a Cafe de Olla & cold brew, tamal huitlacoche, and sope de pulpo. The cold brew was the best I've ever had-- it was brewed with mint, cinnamon and couple of other spices. They Cafe de Olla was also the best I've had. Everything comes out leisurely so I don't recommend this place if you're in a rush. The star of the show was the sope de pulpo. I highly recommend. The octopus was tender and cooked to perfection. We loved everything so much we came back the morning before we were leaving. Unfortunately not the same experience, but thanks for the first experience where service was top notch, we didn't leave with a bad taste in our mouth the second time. Not sure if the server was new, it wasn't busy. Would've loved to have one last cold brew, but next time!
Another disappointment from Michelin. This is yet another restaurant that makes me question why Michelin would risk its reputation to grant a Bib Gourmand to a place where the dishes lack flavor. We ordered several items, but only one turned out to be decent: the Chilaquiles de Mole. We added Orden de Tasajo (thinly sliced beef on a stick) as a protein, but it arrived overcooked, chewy, and oversalted. That said, the mole itself was excellent. The avocado taco, wrapped in a leaf, was another letdown. It consisted of just slices of avocado with a sauce so delicate it was almost tasteless. The predominant flavor was the leaf, which wasn’t particularly enjoyable. We ended up eating avocado and left the rest of it The biggest disappointment was the Sope de Pulpo. While I understand that seafood can be tricky to cook perfectly, being on the Michelin list sets a higher standard, and this dish didn’t come close to meeting it. The octopus was overcooked to the point where it shouldn’t have been served. We also tried the tamal, which was better than any tamal I’ve had before. However, as someone who isn’t typically a fan of tamales, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to change my mind. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't convince me to it, but if you’re a fan of tamales, it might be worth a try. A guy playing trumpet right behind us didn't add to the experience either That said, this was our experience, and I can only hope yours will be different
Food is okay, but service is terrible; went there twice in the week (early morning breakfast and lunch) and the staff were not friendly at all. At my visit for lunch they took ages to prepare the octopus sope, and any time I asked for it, the waiter got angry. Tried almost all the items in the menu. They are generally good, but my favourite was the tamales. The champurrado is good. The tacos are a bit tasteless. The mole in the enmoladas is good, but they have no filling. My opinion is biased because I'm Mexican, but if you're an international tourist you may have a better opinion of this place, so give it a go.
I was honestly shocked by the staff, I found them not friendly or helpful at all. It felt like they were doing us a favor just by serving us, which really affected the experience. Food-wise, the taste was good but nothing extraordinary. I did appreciate the small, focused menu. Overall, I’m glad I tried it once, but I wouldn’t go back.
