Gus's Barbecue is an absolute gem, especially if you're looking for an amazing dining experience in the evening or at night. The location is lovely, with seating options both inside and out, but I highly recommend sitting indoors to fully enjoy the beautiful ambiance and decor--it's warm, inviting, and perfect for any occasion. The seating accommodates all party sizes, so it's easy to find a spot whether you're with a group or dining solo. The food was incredible--I ordered the pulled pork nachos, one of their signature burgers, and a Charred Citrus Mule. While everything was fantastic, the nachos were the star of the show, packed with flavor and an absolute must-try! Our waitress made the experience even better--she was fun, helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed with a smile. Before leaving, I picked up a bottle of their branded honey mustard sauce, and I highly recommend grabbing one of their sauces to take home--it's that good! Gus's Barbecue is a must-visit for delicious food, great service, and a memorable evening!

First time going there and we had a blast, my wife said I won the best dish there (full rack of st a Louis spare ribs) and I agree. However it’s not to say her country fried steak wasn’t great either nor my daughter’s Nashville hot chicken, they were all great. We did ask for the mini cheeseburgers to be on the medium side and they were well past it but the side dishes (jalapeño grits and sweet potato fries and their side of blue cheese were heavenly). The Jalapeño jelly that comes with the cast iron corn bread is delicious as well. So go and enjoy some ribs ;)

Really good service. I thought the food was mid honestly. Sauces pretty tasty. I had link meal with greens & dirty rice. Deviled eggs were little sweet but not bad. I saw folks getting fried 🍗 🐔 looked fire. Check it out for yourself!!

The food was yummy, just not "melt-in-your mouth" delicious, which you would expect for the price of the brisket. I really liked the honey mustard. The service was very good, as was the atmosphere. It is in the Packing House, which is interesting.

First time coming here with the hubs and pup. We are trying to find more pet friendly places so we can include our fur son. Sat outside. Super nice weather today. Plenty of shade. It was nice because there wasn't too many people but still a lot of distractions to continue to train our pup (he's 3 1/2 but still call him my pup) in public situations. Had the cast iron skillet cornbread and it was everything that all the reviews say. Melt in your mouth goodness. I did not try the jalapeno jam but the honey butter was good. I ordered the fried chicken with the mashed potatoes and collard greens. Everything was great. The mashed potatoes were very creamy. I would have liked some texture in them, but good flavor overall. Husband got the gumbo. Shrimps were tender. Felt like I there wasn't a lot of protien included. 5 or so whole shrimp, very little sausage and chicken. Mainly veggies. The overall taste was good, just need to add a little more protein. Will more than likely return since it is dog friendly and maybe try some actual BBQ!

Solid! Good food, nothing spectacular, but my BBQ standards are pretty damn high so that's still a respectable comment. Anyways. Got the 10oz brisket with fries and Mac cheese. Pretty tasty. The sauces were decent, but again not going to be super standout imo. I think it's definitely worth going and a really cool area to walk around and explore. Will be back for sure.

Found this place and the whole Claremont Packing house by mistake while bike riding on the Pacific Electric bike trail. Came in for brunch and had an omelet with smoked turkey. It was a good omelet but I really couldn't taste the smoked turkey. Overall it was still a good place and the waitress was so helpful. I'll be back for the fried chicken and waffles which she highly recommended.

We were seated right away. The place was kind of busy. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The food descriptions in the menu were really good . We got the skillet cinnamon bun . The presentation of it was inspiring but the flavor was not. It was very thick and the icing was lacking in flavor. You could taste the cream cheese but not much of anything else. The filling was nice with cinnamon and pecans. It was more like a Savory cinnamon bun. I wonder how it would taste if there was an added Smoky flavor in it. The S'mores shake was disappointing. The whole thing kind of tasted like a bland whipped marshmallow. I got the breakfast burrito that has bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese and hash browns covered in a half green and half red sauce with sour cream and sliced avocado on top and fried potatoes with onion and bell pepper on the side. First bite of the potatoes on the side made me think that they were fried and then baked the following day and refried. That was the only bite I took of them. First bite of the burrito was really hard to cut through with a fork but second and third bites were much better. The salsa verde had a nice citrus savory flavor to it and the red salsa had some Smokey Chipotle notes with a little kick of spice. Hubby got the smoked sausage plate with mac and cheese and coleslaw. Sausage was moist with good flavor and texture. The mac and cheese was cooked just right. It wasn't too mushy with nice cheesy flavor. The bread crumbs brought a nice little crunch of texture to it. Coleslaw not so good. Flavor was off and it was rough chopped so some of the cabbage pieces were just way too big. The server had asked how things were going and I told her, so eventually the manager showed up and wanted to know about the food. I told him and he said he would check on it and he took the things off of our bill that I was not happy with and he gave us a complimentary cornbread. He was very friendly and professional. Most places don't like to hear what they're doing wrong but that's the only way to make improvements. I understand that my tastes are not the same as everybody else. When I got to the car with the cornbread I tried it and you know what? It was the best thing I had from there. It was moist and held together the flavor was delicious. It was buttery and sweet in the perfect amounts. I didn't even put on the whipped butter or the other stuff they give you to put on it. I would recommend for people to go there and try it out and see how they like it.

From what I got I don't know if I would call it true southern style barbecue or Texas barbecue. The brisket was very dry and not juicy. now, I did have it on a baked potato so maybe they use old brisket pieces but it didn't taste fresh. My daughter, on the other hand she loved her burger and my mom thought the catfish was fried perfectly and really fresh. We ordered the cornbread for appetizer. That was really good and I really enjoyed the mint blueberry lemonade.

We recently visited Gus in Claremont for a friend’s birthday celebration, craving some barbecue. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and seated right away, which was a great start to our evening. The atmosphere at Gus is inviting, and the service we received was excellent. Our server was attentive and made sure we were comfortable throughout our visit. It’s always nice to see such hospitality in a restaurant. For our meal, we ordered deviled eggs, BBQ sliders, and two orders of beef brisket. The sliders and deviled eggs were delicious, definitely a highlight of our meal. However, we were disappointed to learn that they no longer offer beef ribs, which used to be one of our favorites. Unfortunately, the beef brisket did not meet our expectations as it was quite dry, which took away from the overall enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, the draft beers were not as cold as we would have liked, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, our experience at Gus was just okay. While the service and some of the food were good, the dry brisket and lukewarm beer left us wanting more.The price also not that reasonable. We hope they can address these issues in the future, as Gus has the potential to be a great barbecue spot.

I've been dining at this restaurant for several years, and it used to be one of my favorites. The food was consistently flavorful, well-prepared, and worth coming back for. Sadly, that’s changed. Lately, the quality of the food has noticeably declined. Dishes that once felt fresh and satisfying now taste uninspired and cheap. It’s as if the kitchen has lowered its standards—ingredients seem less fresh, and the care that used to go into each plate is missing. To make matters worse, the service has become painfully slow. What used to be a smooth, enjoyable experience now feels like a test of patience. Long waits to order, delays in getting food, and inattentive staff have made recent visits frustrating. The ambiance is still pleasant, but without good food and prompt service, it’s hard to justify coming back. I truly hope they turn things around and return to the quality and efficiency that made them great.

The food was good and servings are large. Under staffing hurt as follow-up service didn’t exist. what made things worse that we both had stomach issues shortly after leaving. I really wanted to like gus’s but not worth ruining your day to be by a bathroom. This place is for those with an iron stomach. Its an avoid location and a skip the pasadena location as its a small chain 3 locations.

Review is for breakfast only. Food was terrible for the most part. Cinnamon bun was stale, medium steak was like leather (check the photo), fruit was not fresh, eggs were overcooked. several parts of our order were incorrect. Server was friendly and the deck is great. I’ll be back to try the BBQ but skip breakfast here.
