My son gifted my wife and I a wine tasting for my birthday. Our sommelière Cynthia was a pleasure and was very knowledgeable. We had a great experience.
We had an incredible experience at this winery! The food was absolutely amazing — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for enjoying a great meal and a glass of wine, their house wines were impeccable. A special thank you to our waitress, Brittany, who was so helpful and attentive throughout our visit. She made sure we had everything we needed and even offered excellent recommendations. Her friendly and professional service really made the evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for delicious food, great wine, and outstanding service
5 stars isn't enough. If I could give 10 stars I would. We took a chance on a new place for our anniversary dinner and won the lottery. We joined the wine club, had an amazing server, (Jackson H.), amazing wine, amazing experience. After we left, our vehicle had a technical issue and wasn't safe to drive. We met with the GM (Justin Williams) and he was kind enough to let our vehicle stay there overnight till the dealership could come get it in the morning. The customer service of this establishment went above and beyond what was required. What was suppose to be a celebration... turned sour, but Cooper's Hawk eased my mind and I can't thank them enough for their wonderful customer service.
I love this place. I’ve been in bad moods the last few times I’ve eaten here and being there has put me into better moods. The food is tasty and the wine is delicious. Still love this place and the crew! They make CH rock!
The “Leonard Burger” is decadent and meaty with fixings that tantalizes the palate with happily melting cheese that christens a special sauce that is well balanced on a soft bun. Knowledgeable servers such as — Courteous Ashley — is full of brand information that piques your interest in their popular dishes as well as the history of this upscale restaurant, and their curated wine list and “sommelier.” In addition to my flavorful burger, I ordered Lobster Bisque which was buttery and creamy as well as Key Lime Pie served on a graham cracker crust with whipped cream, and a Cucumber Mock-tail. The entire presentation was aesthetically artful. The soft lighting with blue and grey decor tones were very relaxing denoting a top notch sophisticated restaurant that offers an exquisite dining experience.
Delicious. I would come here again for wine, food, service, and the upscale diner feel. Since we had already intended on ordering a bottle of wine, our server Heather let us know that we'd save money by purchasing the wine club membership (cancelable at any time) that day. We opted for the 2 bottle membership which allowed us to try the sparkling raspberry with our meal and take home the sweet red for later. Looking forward to uncorking that sometime in the near future! As far as the food, they start you off with pretzel bread. It was kind of small but texture-wise, it was great! We opted for just entrees that night. My husband got the spare rib risotto. Creamy and not toothy, the risotto was a hit with him. I tried the gnocchi al vodka. It was really good too. Not melt in your mouth or cloudlike but still pretty soft in texture. Overall, we enjoyed our date night and will be back! PS Despite the broad wine and cocktail offerings, I happily noticed this place was kid- friendly with a family occupying the table next to us and a changing pad available in the family restroom.
This place is our new favorite! This restaurant is such an elegant, nice atmosphere. My sister is gluten free (celiac) and they had great accommodations for her, bread, fries made in separate fryer and gluten free pasta. All of our drinks were amazing, I recommend Almond champagne, Scarletto, and the Moscato was delightful. The food was delicious, I recommend the prime sandwich. Only thing was we wish we got waters sooner, it took 20 minutes for us to get some water.
This restaurant is amazing. We were greeted at the wine bar and offered free samples first. Flights of wine are affordable and the food is spectacular. They were VERY busy the night we visited but we still had excellent service! My only complaint was the calamari was slightly overcooked but I understand that's something easily done. Currently my favorite restaurant in Iowa
Wow! This is a great restaurant. They started us off with pretzel bread, which was warm and delicious. We ordered the brussel sprouts for an appetizer and they had such a unique flavor - awesome. My dish was a parmesan crusted chicken with veggies and potatoes and my hubby got a cilantro chicken sandwich. We were stuffed and both took leftovers home, as the portions were large. Highly recommend!! **Update- we went there again for our anniversary and they brought us complimentary bubbly white wine. It was delicious. This time, we had potstickers, shrimp scampi, and a fancy chicken sandwich. So delicious!
Got a flight of white wine with the “Napa Chicken” salad! Price is amazing for what you get! The service worked seamlessly together. Our waiter was friendly, answered questions and did not feel rushed in choosing, rather he encouraged us to enjoy our wine! Atmosphere is great for a date night or gathering with friends! Highly recommend checking out Cooper’s Hawk- I know I will be back to try out different things on the menu!
This place is a must when you are in town looking for a fabulous meal and wonderful atmosphere. During my 3 day stay, I dinned here both nights! Scott, the manager, was a wonderful host checking in multiple times at every table. Our servers both nights were there whenever they were needed. Food was fresh with plenty of flavor and awesome texture. Chicken was had the first night (no picture) and the filet the second night (pictured). Both served with excellent sides that were all cooked perfectly. If you are a wine drinker, there is a huge selection with plenty of variations to please any pallet. I walked away with 3 bottles of some of their signature wines that were all fair priced. So if you are thinking about it, do it. Dine here and receive greatness.
We had the best server ever!!! Every bite of food was made with perfection. Can I say Mary's potatoes are some of the best. The pork chops...cut with a fork! So good. If we were not on the road for other reasons, we would have had more than a flight. Stop in for wonderful food. A great atmosphere and great service to top it all off.
Great atmosphere and friendly service, Started with shrimp lettuce wraps (can’t recall the name)—fresh and flavorful! Loved the Gnocchi with Roasted Butternut Squash—creamy, rich, with crispy onions for texture. The Soy Ginger Atlantic Salmon was perfectly cooked; the wasabi-buttered mashed potatoes were a standout. Highly recommend for a quality meal & service in Des Moines!
Celebrated my daughter’s 27th birthday and we had a very nice first experience! The staff was accommodating and the food was excellent! Chef Corey runs a good show! Love that every guest gets to sample any 2 wines and the bubbly flight (not pictured) was amazing! I bought the Almond Champagne to take home and have over Christmas ☺️ Can’t wait to go back!…we also ordered the Brussels & all 5 of us (including my chef daughter) said they are the BEST we’ve ever had! 😋
Went here for lunch. The place was full but not overcrowded at all. We were seated and told about the wine and the wine club, then about the menu. We ordered some wine to try and sample and then lunch. Service was good and fast. Food was delicious, I wasn't sure what to expect was was delighted with how well my stake was good to medium rare. Would come back again for sure as there were plenty of dishes on the menu left that sounded delicious. They could go a little less heavy on the wine club pitch.... I think we were asked 4 or 5 times.
This was the third time that I've visited this location and it just keeps getting better. Big thanks to our server Ashley who took great care of us. But, today, it was the food that shined through. Every dish was solid all the way through. Churrasco steak, ginger salmon (2 different options), filet and fish and chips.... Oooohweeeee! Restaurant was super clean, all servers and staff extremely polite, but the biggest kudos go to the cooks in the back who took care of our food. Especially the steaks and soy ginger salmon!!! We even got a table visit from the head chef, Chef Barry. Such an awesome experience. Highly recommend!!! Cheers, guys! 👍🔥🙏
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner, made even more special by our waiter, Mark. He was incredibly attentive, personable, and full of energy, ensuring every moment was perfect. Highly recommend!
Always greatly prepared food! Attentive service. Love the wine selection and free, yet generous, samples. Oh and that bread and butter they give you - delish! Reasonable prices, lotsa variety on the menu, and the appetizers are generous enough for sharing. You must go!
Our server, Adam, was funny as well as attentive. Great atmosphere and tasty food. The sparkling wine flight was a delight with some having flavors hints of bread, holiday cookie, etc. Unique and refreshing.
Fun new place for date night! I'd call it casual classy. Casual dress code but with style of upscale. It has a Winery at the entrance, so gives something to check out if there's a longer wait on a table. Our food we ordered was very delicious. For Appetizer we got the House Made Meatballs which was recommended by the server, loved it, very good. For our main dishes we went with the Prime Churrasco Grilled Steak and Classic Cheeseburger. Both were cooked to our liking and yummy. Then for dessert had the S'more Budino which was heavenly good. I'll be returning to try out some other menu items for sure.
So many menu items that we wanted to try! Love the wine pairing recommendations! I personally love that they do not serve a bread basket… makes it easier to ‘behave’ when going out to dinner. My daughters were starving (as usual) so we started with the calamari. It was covered with a sweet chili sauce. It was great. It had a dipping sauce- that we all skipped. The Fall Risotto option was perfect in flavor and serving size. The chicken sandwich with coleslaw was good- but needed more sauce or slaw for my taste. The seafood bisque soup was really good also… but was FULL of seafood chunks- but it isn’t my favorite in town. You really can’t beat Splash’s (IMO) The ceasar salad was 100% as expected and the parmasean crusted chicken was DELISH! We will definitely be back. The $19.99 red white flight was a great way to sample a few house reds.
The walk up wine bar as you enter, makes a wonderful place to mingle while you sample wine. Everything was delicious, especially the Crispy Brussels Sprouts app! I'm going back there soon specifically for that ;) It was a busy Father's Day dinner, and despite that the service was wonderful. The overall esthetic felt like I was in a top Las Vegas restaurant here in our Metro. And I say that with the highest regard. Thank you for being here. :) Jules
My mother and I visited for wine tasting and lunch. Cody, an impressive sommelier, expertly guided us through wine options, while Jackson, our server, provided attentive service and excellent lunch recommendations. Although the hosts were unfriendly and less accommodating regarding seating, the rest of our experience was exceptional, ending with a purchase of 14 wine bottles.
Our service was wonderful and the food was delicious. I had the baked shrimp scampi and hubby had the rigatoni. Both were large portions. I enjoyed the red wine flight and he mixed two reds and two whites. We joined the wine club and look forward to trying more menu items.
What a great addition to the West side! My husband and I tried out Cooper's Hawk for a date night and we were not disappointed. You walk into their tasting room which was buzzing with activity at 5:15 on a Thursday. We enjoyed a drink at the bar while we waited on our reservation. Their bar & restaurant has a great vibe. Upon seating we were offered a free tasting if their reserve barrel. For dinner we enjoyed the bruschetta and two seafood dishes. The Baked Shrimp Scampi & The Shrimp & Scallop risotto. We also decided on the creme brûlée for dessert. Every thing was delicious. After dinner we decided to try out a tasting which was a fun way to end the night. This is a great place for anything from a business lunch or family dinner to a girl's night or date night!
Eat at Clive location today and Crystal was our Waitress. She was fantastic. I got the the 3 Medallion and ordered Med Rare. Well one was perfect the other two well more done. But I told her everything is fine cause the food is good. She noticed the two done Medallion. I was so shock she noticed. She was a wonderful waitress to have on my Birthday.
Exceptional as a start point. We were visiting Des Moines for T-Day Weekend. Major winter storm came in, killing our Saturday night plans. Charlie (Executive Chef), and his amazing kitchen team saved the day. I placed a MASSIVE takeout order ($500), and every single item was executed flawlessly, which is very hard to say for such a takeout order. What will remain with me, is the care and kindness provided by both Charlie, as well as the team rep who took my order (Anthony). Based on this incredible experience, I encourage all to visit Coopers Hawk WDM in person! Thanks Coopers Hawk, for literally saving our Saturday night, post Thanksgiving Day family dinner!!!!
Our sommelier Rolo was wonderful! My daughter and I had a blast hanging out in tbe tasting bar and trying all the wines. Left with many new favorites. Rolo is very knowledgeable and just fun! Delicious wine! Highly recommended!
Excellent winery, food, and service is amazing. The staff is very knowledgeable about the wine and offers samples. Its a little pricey but not outrageous. Highly recommend.
1st time here, and we will definitely be back! Amazing food, service was impeccable. I loved that the food menu has corresponding numbers to the wine menu, suggesting a wine pairing.
Lots of energy here! People obviously take advantage of the wine tasting area! I had some of the best wine I’ve ever tasted (velvety smooth red). I got the braised short rib risotto and it was very rich and tasty! I would come back again!
The food was excellent. Our waitress Mary was amazing. She was kind, very attentive and smiled constantly which made us feel welcome. She was the most memorable part of our dining experience. She is truly an asset to your business
We had dinner here over the weekend with some friends. I can’t say enough good things about it. Our waiter- John was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The food came out fast and was very flavorful. I had the blackened tuna and was worried about it being super spicy but it was not. It was a great portion size- I was full but not stuffed. I also really like that they take reservations. Great place and we can’t wait to return!
It was my first time here and I will definitely be back! We started with the Brussels, I had a filet mignon with broccoli and mashed potatoes and we ended with the banana dessert! It was all so good and my steak was honestly comparable to somewhere like Flemmings for a fraction of the cost. Our server Pebbles was attentive and very sweet! I could tell she got my soda from the gun at the bar and she had no problem swapping it out for another from the machine. I put her name in the notes on my phone to request her next time! 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We love Cooper's Hawk - their food is delicious and everyone there is so friendly and fun. Today we sat at the bar and Rachel was our server - she went out of her way to take care of us and we really appreciated her service. We're wine club members, too, which offers some extra benefits. Thanks, Rachel, for taking such great care of us and for the delicious cheese plate!
Pebbles was amazing, super personable and attentive. Helped accommodate my mom's food sensitivities. Her bubbly friendly personality really made my birthday lunch special.
The atmosphere here is modern. It's located in West Des Moines near hotels and commercial businesses. I walked in expecting that I would be able to be seated because it was an off time (not even yet 4:00 p.m.) but they were booked for the night. Reservations are definitely recommended and / or required unless you want to sit at the upscale bar to eat, which I did. There is an extensive wine list and a wine shop. The meals are a la carte ... so salads, appetizers, and drinks are all separately priced from the entree. Overall it was a very good meal and I met a nice mixed crowd at the bar including retirees, couples, and other professionals. I had the Trio of Medallions under Steak & Chops on the menu shown.
The restaurant is well decorated, bringing a fancy feeling to me. The service was excellent. I ordered a medium rare fillet mignon as a safe option since it was my first time there. However, the steak was overcooked (crispy outside and medium well inside) and so salty that I had to drink two full glasses of water. They offered to make another dish for me, but I lost my taste for the food. They also gave us two complimentary champagnes for our anniversary. Overall, it was a great time with my family there. I hope that they can do better next time.
Great wine place. The bar has solid offerings as well. Indoor and outdoor seating. The menu has numerous selections we went with the surf and turf. It was good but not great. I ordered rare flank steak and it came out medium. The flavors were there but not a great execution. It was good enough to come back and try other offerings on the menu. Large selection of salads as well. The menu has wine pairing next to each food item, nice touch. The dessert menu had a couple of items that looked unique and worth a try.
We are members of the wine club. We decided to use our monthly bottle of wine with our dinner. The bottle of wine did not arrive at our table until after our meal had arrived. It was busy night and our waitress was working hard and she was very busy. I still highly recommend this place but from now on, we will come a bit early and get our bottle of wine at the bar before we are seated so we can enjoy a glass before our dinner arrives.
Let’s start with the fact that it’s great to see another fine dining option in West Des Moines. This is a new experience for the community and adds an option. We had reservations for 8:15, decently late but the only option given the fact that these guys were booked. We were seated pretty fast and our waiter came out quick to take an initial order, that’s where the service unfortunately stopped. Our table was only cleared once during our 2 HOUR! visit. We would have ordered more wine if our waiter would have stopped by. While food came out quick, everything else was painfully slow. Dessert didn’t come out for almost 30 minutes and the check took another 20, all while our table wasn’t serviced (glasses from first order still on the table by the end of the night). This all happened while 2 groups of staff gathered in opposite sides of the restaurant and chatted. I get it, you are at the end of the night and you are closing, but you have to take care of the folks still in your restaurant. The food was great but please spend as much time as you do on trying to sell your wine program, on taking care of your guests. I wanted to buy a bottle of wine, but by the time we finally got checked out, I just wanted to get home. This would have been awesome if it wasn’t for slow and inattentive service.
This place has good vibes with their welcoming staff and elegant ambiance. Our server was excellent. She was very attentive and friendly. What we had ordered, though, was very underwhelming. From the soup to drinks to the entrees lacked flavor.
Wish I could give half stars: 3.5 for me. Large menu that’s very Cheesecake Factory-esque. Theres even a “calorie conscious“ menu which is honestly triggering and outdated. There’s definitely something for everyone but everything is also quite pricey. I think the wine club and points/ rewards system is very odd for a restaurant and whenever there’s a menu this large that always means something will be a miss. While I enjoyed the sausage flatbread I got and the Caesar salad was good, it was just that- pretty good. Presentation is lacking given the menu pricing. The cookie skillet was actually not that good compared to other places I’ve gotten the same type of thing. My margarita was great though but again- extremely overpriced. The food itself was all tasty and definitely 4 stars but the price knocks it down for me.
We went for my partners birthday dinner and the service was mediocre at best. Katerina J was our waitress and she checked on us a fair amount of times but there were long waits to order and a long wait for the check after she stated she would “be right back” to get our check and payment. She didn’t offer or refill our drinks at all and the people behind us in a booth were offered free truffles with their birthday meal and we weren’t offered anything complimentary. As we walked out my partner said “I don’t need to go back there for a while,” and I would have to agree. The food was great but the service was not up to par for the price we paid.
In went o ok n Veterans Day around mid day, and it showed that the company needed help with service. The bartender couldn’t keep up with service and was struggling to get Ben get me and my wife bread. The kitchen was great, but service could be better, I would not recommend going for a gift or anniversary treat. My day was fulfilled otherwise.
The wine was good, but a little too expensive. We got a burger which was great, and the pasta was ok. The portions were big, but the a little expensive. Also, the burger came out about 5 minutes after ordering, but the pasta came out 15-20 minutes later, which was really odd.
Mediocre at best. It took our server about 10-15 minutes to greet us, and then another 5 minutes to come back with waters. Food was plated haphazardly and our dishes did not look very appetizing. Brussel sprouts were the only good thing!
I can understand this is a new restaurant in town, however it took us 25mins to be acknowledged once seated, another 15 to get water and our drinks. We ordered the bruschetta, they came out with brussle sprouts. Was told they would be comped, but were not. By the time we got our entree we had been waiting over 90mins. The Gnocchi was TERRIBLE. Shout out to the server, Jon, he was awful as he was the reason for such terrible service. I would not recommend nor will I be back. Too bad..
Had a Saturday night reservation via OpenTable. We arrived about an hour early and enjoyed a drink at the bar. Around 5:50 PM, we checked in at the hostess stand, which confirmed our reservation. Despite that, we waited until 6:10 PM before asking if it was normal to wait more than 10 minutes with a reservation. A staff member explained that reservations “don’t really matter” for small parties because they prioritize turning over larger tables. We were finally seated at 6:18 PM. Menus were provided, but no water or bread. After another 20 minutes, we flagged the same staff member. She apologized, said the delay was “unacceptable,” and offered a complimentary glass of their house barrel wine. When our server arrived, we placed drink, appetizer, and entrée orders all at once due to the long wait. Bread didn’t arrive until just before 7:00 PM. The food was good—but not good enough to offset the poor service. The manager stopped by with a generic “hope your food is tasting well” but never acknowledged the delays or offered an apology. Overall, the experience felt dismissive and disorganized. I won’t return, and if anyone asks about Cooper’s Hawk, I’ll strongly recommend against it.
I have never experienced service this terrible. Marjorie was our server and she was incredibly rude. I’ve never wrote a review before but after tonight, we decided to. We tried to order a couple tastings when we were sat because the host talked about how we could try the barrel, and we’ve been to many wineries and like to try a couple of different wines before we decide on one. She said we should just order a bottle or glasses and then we’ll know if we like the wine after the glass then could order a bottle. She may have been trying to just get a sale and that’s ok but we just wanted to try a couple of different ones before we decided. We went back and forth and she made it clear she didn’t want to do the tastings because “bar is busy.” We ended up just not getting tastings and ordering drinks. My wife ordered the grouper and asked for no capers and she gave us a dirty look, paused for a few seconds and said the kitchen can’t do that. She ended up ordering something else, that she didn’t want as much as the fish. We asked for water refills twice and once she scoffed and said “Yeah it’ll be a minute” and didn’t come back for 10+. When we were first sat she gave us a long speech about the wine club before even introducing herself, then she walked away immediately after saying she’ll be back. She came back almost 10 minutes later and said “Ok, what to drink?” This is not the type of experience I would expect at an upscale restaurant. There were just many things throughout the night that didn’t make the experience a good one, and it wasn’t the food, just the server. We saw her arguing to the side with another it looked like server, loud enough to where we could hear. Right after she came to check on us and we tried to make a joke about how it may be a rough night and she said “Yeah (laughed) but that’s not your business.” I do not recommend this restaurant, if nothing else if you do try it I hope you don’t get the same server we had.
