To all my gluten-free and Celiac friends. If you are in Iowa you have to visit wasabi and you have to ask specifically for Morgan. She was literally the best and the food was the most delicious sushi I've ever had. As if someone was celiac she knew exactly how serious it is. She was so knowledgeable. The restaurant was so nice. It was so knowledgeable. It is just one of these places that you can go and be safe and enjoy your food 10/10
Visited during informal lunch with colleagues. We had a larger group and they were able to assist us with multiple payments. I had 2 Maki rolls and miso soup and it was tasty. I would return in the future to try more sushi and menu items. Everybody I was eating with stated that they thought their choice was also very good. Positive comments about the bento box and the tuna poke bowl
We’ve eaten here so much, and we absolutely love it. We’ve never had something we don’t enjoy, from dumpling appetizers to their sushi to ramen. All 10/10, and we probably get it too often. But what tipped me over into writing a review was tonight. My fiancé and I went to figure out our signature drinks for our upcoming wedding. Henry, the bar manager, was so incredible! He was kind and willing to try things, and he had amazing taste for suggesting drinks based on what we liked. The bar is incredibly stocked, no drink seemed off the table. We spent almost 3 hours there eating and drinking, and we never felt a burden. Would recommend Wasabi to anyone for food and/or drinks.
Gotta love all the tasty sushi restaurants in the Des Moines Area. This new location has a very inviting and creative menu where you want to sample most of the items. The prices are reasonable and each entree is very delicious.
I’ve never been huge on sushi, but I can honestly say Wasabi changed my opinion of it. I had the Crouching Tiger, a green salad, Dragonberry Mojito. We also got edamame and spring rolls as an appetizer. I will definitely be back to try some other options on their menu
I ordered a few different options, starting with a seaweed salad. I thought the food was great and was very filling. The seaweed salad had a great taste. The king crab crunch was great! The individual pieces of sushi were big and I thought the different components meshed together really well.
This is a local favorite--The food is always great and fresh. A few of our favorites are the crispy orange chicken, honey rainbow roll, and chicken pad Thai.
More than I expected! Super recommended for Japanese food! The Otoro & chutoro is also very fresh!
Fantastic service and the best sushi in the Des Moines area. Restaurant is neat and clean, service is friendly and efficient. The sushi is very fresh with a wonderful variety of items on the menu. Each roll that is served is a small work of art; the servings are as beautiful as they are delicious.
I like spicy seafood tom yum. It was good every time when I was there except one time (bit salty for me 🤪) But it’s okay. Maybe the chef has his bad day 🤪🤪. Kim Chi fries rice is good. I love their spicy squid salad. Its bit different with other restaurants. I have new waiters couple times, not the best but can understand they are learning. I’m fine with it. Good thing that they don’t mess up my order 😂.
The crouching tiger roll and char siu pork ramen were both very good. I have been to this restaurant previously and had the sushi and sashimi platter for 2, which was excellent as well. It's a bit on the expensive side but the service is great and the ambiance and decor are more upscale.
My daughter's, grandson and I came in for the first time. Was pretty busy. Service was great and we didn't sit waiting. Best sushi we've had. The grandson had orange chicken that was the best we ever had. Crab Rangoon was delicious. Can't wait to come back!
Our new favorite sushi spot!! Atmosphere, service, and sushi were all fantastic. The first round was so good we ended up ordering more. Our waitress Linda recommended a roll that we loved! We will be back!
Wasabi in Waukee is a fantastic dining destination for sushi and Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. The restaurant's ambiance is modern and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere for both casual and special dining occasions. The sushi menu is impressive, featuring a wide array of creative and traditional rolls, sashimi, and nigiri, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their presentation of dishes is artistic and appealing, enhancing the overall dining experience. The menu also includes a variety of other Japanese dishes, catering to a broad range of tastes. Service at Wasabi is attentive and friendly, with staff members willing to offer recommendations for those new to Japanese cuisine. The cleanliness and attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant are commendable. Wasabi in Waukee is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delightful sushi experience or a taste of authentic Japanese flavors
Wasabi Waukee has always been so kid friendly, but tonight our waitress, Linda, hit it out of the park. She showed our one year old daughter how sushi is made and taught her high five. Not to mention, the food is always amazing!
Always, always best sushi and sashimi!!! Great service! I went there many times and always was satisfied 💯 % with my sushi and sashimi!!!! Love this place!
Pleasant experience - I'm not much of a sushi person, so my expectations for their non-sushi food (which is the specialty) weren't very high... but they definitely delivered! Their signature shrimp was fantastic, with candied walnuts and a side of white rice. The shrimp were enormous and it was the perfect amount of food overall. We were also served very quickly given the amount of people who were there - pleased with the service. My drink (seasonal specialty cocktail) was a little overpriced in my opinion, but it was delicious. Overall, I'd definitely go back!
By far my favorite sushi restaurant. The Marylin Monroll and the Abuli samon are great. I also like the spicy tuna roll. I am a frequent customer and there is just nothing bad to say about that place. The staff is just top notch, and the chefs are excellent.
This place has amazing sushi. You have to try the seared white tuna appetizer there’s nothing else like it and it is an explosion of flavors! The signature shrimp dish was so good. Highly recommend!
Loved the Thunder Roll and the Philadelphia Roll (both shown in photo). Large outdoor and indoor seating areas available. Setting is in a clean, fairly new space. Sushi menu available as well as hot dishes.
I always order take out! I love their egg drop soup and Philly roll. They fried rice is amazing !!!
I ordered hamachi Chili (cold plate) and Marilyn Monroll. Both are very good. But the cold plate is a bit overpriced. $17 for 5 slices of thinly sliced fish.
Good sushi and ramen. Nice wine selection. Good staff. Patio is comfortable. Plenty of parking.
Not the best in DSM but gets a 5 Star for what is offered in Waukee. Service is always great. A little overpriced but good. Pictured is a roll (don’t remember the name) that they made suggestions for substitutions to make it more “kid friendly” and my 9 year old actually liked it. Maybe that means more sushi for us as she tries more ! I do wish they had a better lunch menu. Maybe they do now, but last couple times was the same as dinner menu.
Excellent! Hands down the best suishi in the metro. The fusions and unique take on classic dishes is simply amazing. Try the spicy squid salad!
Had great time on the patio eating our sushi. The weather was perfect. We enjoyed our drinks, appetizers, and dinner. It's so nice to have the choice to sit outside or inside. We could hear the live music from the brewery next door.
It is one of my favourite restaurants in des moines. I like everything about it.. the ambience.. food .. drinks .. service. The best Egg drop soup is served by them. It is one of the item i never miss to order. Another favourite of mine is khimchi fried rice with shrimps. Udon noodles and grilled salmon with asparagus is also something that makes me comeback to them.
Great place in Waukee for lunch! Excellent Patio! Chicken Yaki Soba and Spring Rolls were delicious!
Quite a surprise to have such more than decent Japanese cuisine in a small city like this in iowa. Their rolls and sushi are really good. High Five! Sorry forgot to take pictures. Love to come back. Minus a star: our waiter was very absent.
The perfect take out in the area. We absolutely love Wasabi!
I've eaten here and ordered out from here, and its always good. The fried rice is fantastic, and the selection of sushi is really broad and unique. Highly recommend.
Dinner is always on point. Our server Hunter obviously has been at this a while. Best service Ive had in a long time. Super attentive. Great with recommendations and didn’t have to ask for a thing.
We have ordered take out from here about 5 times in the past 2 months since moving to the area. Consistency is fantastic and the pricing is pretty great compared to other sushi places. 10/10 would recommend
We would most definitely go back! Food was excellent, we got to go drinks and they gave us two each (two kids) with no charge! Service was wonderful, they put our sushi into our box for us and used gloves! We got the sushi plater for 4 and it came with 64 pieces of sushi for cheaper than anywhere else!
First time here tonight. Reasonable wait time on a Friday. Food was exceptional, service was great. We will be back!
I've been to Wasabi Ankeny several times. This was my first time going to Wasabi Waukee. I was pleasantly surprised to see they have many Gluten Free options - quite a bit more than what the Ankeny location has. The soup and rolls were delicious and the service was prompt. Thanks for a great experience!
Mark was a great server. Roll was very good. Same with potstickers. General Tso was good.
The food was good, a bit above average. Hated the service, I think it was closing time and I was ignored, asked twice for spicy mayo never got it. I’ll be generous with a four star but honestly 3.5 star is where it’s at. Restaurant is pretty, indoor outdoor seating, good vibes.
I've been to many of the Wasabi locations and they're all generally pretty similar with small differences. The food is always very tasty and full of flavour and the service generally okay. I rarely if ever feel smothered which I always consider a plus and I really enjoy the selection of sushi and entrée dishes offered. It's no surprise that it's a popular spot among the locals. I have had a few issues with my meals being a bit slow or incorrect in the past but generally it's not a common issue and the staff do their best to make things right when there is a problem.
Tasty sushi! Hot egg drop soup was good but would pass on the miso next time. Favorite roll was the Out of Control. We got the party sampler and would have comfortably fed 3, or would have been okay for 4 with an appetizer!
I had the california rolls which were good. Then I had the spicy shrimp Ramen. It was Spicy! The ingredients were good, but the broth was 10x spicier than the ingredients, of that makes sense. Very Pricey.
Overall, really good. We had the Korean Fried Chicken and spring rolls for an appetizer, both of which I would recommend. All the main courses were good and came out very quickly. The only food that was just decent was the noodles, too much garlic. Our server was great!
This is my go to spot for oriental food near me. I like the variety of dishes. Although some of their Chinese food is average, most of it is better than average. I've been here many times and never had bad service. The prices are probably mid-range. I usually spin between 50 to 65 dollars. Just for myself, that usually includes a couple of drinks. I would definitely recommend the walkie location.
Overall the food and service was good, we had the sushi and sashimi dinner for two. We also ordered dessert to go, and didn't realize how measly the size of the dessert was for the exorbitant price. A tiramisu was the size of a small cupcake for about $10 (can't remember the exact piece) - totally not worth it. I do appreciate they have a kids menu, and my toddler loved the chicken fried rice.
It's hype for what it is. We were sent next to the bathroom. Awful, we couldn't enjoy our food or conversation, because of the smell. Them our bill was over $100 and it was happy hour. That's crazy, appetizer, 2 drinks and 2 rolls. Outrageous.
We order two noodles and a sushi roll. The roll was decent, and both noodle were not as good. What I meant of not so good is that the vegetables didn't blend well with the dishes. The kimchi pot tastes weird with green pepper, and the ramen taste weird with the green leaf vegetable. Doesn't taste good together. But I still gave 3 stars because the roll was good and service was good.
Usually pretty good, but the last time I ordered takeout, I got an unagi avocado roll, and it would have been nice to have some eel with my avocado. At least the avocado was perfectly ripe, but bummed because eel is one of my favorites.
Overall, very disappointed in the Chinese food - the kids crispy chicken was unappetizing. Sesame chicken/teriyaki chicken lacked flavor and was very soggy, likely due to the fact that we ordered takeout but overall not what you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber and price point. Service was fine and sushi roll was good.
Place is beautiful. Staff very friendly. We were looking forward to ordering food from here because we’ve heard great things. If you like Chinese, no not order from here. Flavor is there and presentation but the Chicken is chewy and absolutely terrible. I don’t understand why restaurants can’t use good quality chicken and chefs can’t tenderize the meat so it’s not rubbery and chewy. Very disappointed. Will not be ordering again.
Im extremely disappointed with our recent experience at Wasabi. We order from here almost every second day and have always supported this business, but this time was unacceptable. My kids ordered two orange chicken meals, and both were rubbery and clearly undercooked. It was not edible. When we called to let them know, we spoke to Cody, who was very rude and dismissive. He acted like he didn’t care at all about the issue. He told us to bring the food back, which wasn’t the problem — we were willing to do that. The frustrating part was that we were still hungry and wanted to order something different instead, but he refused to let us place a new order until he physically saw the chicken. As loyal customers who order here constantly, we did not deserve to be treated with suspicion or disrespect. Very disappointing customer service, especially for regular customers. We expected better. Cody was not professional or helpful at all whatsoever. I think one of the worst experience I had was was definitely with him at this place.
