I've eaten here more than a dozen times over the last decade. Marcella's is not in my consistent rotation, but once or twice a year I get the craving for one of their veal meatballs. Yesterday was one of those days. I was in town for a job interview, and decided to grab lunch at Marcella's. I ordered a braised veal meatball and the penne alla arrabiata. First off, the meatball, it was fantastic. It should be a requirement for everyone to try their veal meatball the first time visiting Marcella's. It's expensive, but it's large enough to be a meal by itself. Their meatball is incredibly tender. To use an overused phrase, it melts in your mouth. It's loaded with seasoning and topped with a healthy amount of cheese. The marinara that covers it is absolutely delicious. Get the meatball. I repeat, get the meatball. The penne alla arrabiata was delicious. I have ordered it a few times. I like it because it has a bit of heat to it. It's not overbearing, but it definitely warms your mouth. I've never had a bad experience at Marcella's, and I'll be back for sure. And without a doubt, as always, I'll order another meatball.
Fettuccini and meatball is amazing! Also got the arancini appetizer, chicken parm and an espresso martini. Everything was delicious! Our server was super helpful in informing us of any allergens as my husband is allergic to almonds.
It was just a routine Friday night dinner for us but everything about this restaurant made it special. We booked a week in advance on Open Table and had no wait or delay. We started with arancini appetizer, nice and crunchy and oh so cheesy. Then house salads, the dressing delivered just the right acid for the richness to follow. We both fell in love with the parmesan risotto with sausage peppers and onions, I enjoyed the goat cheese on it - it delivered just the right creaminess for the dish. And neither of us had room for dessert though the descriptions were tempting... but we both left with enough boxed up for another meal.
Really enjoyed our waiter & our food. They had pop radio playing which kind of ruined the atmosphere. Probably should have had some nice Italian background music playing, not trashy radio pop… but otherwise we really enjoyed our appetizers. We didn’t get any entrees but enjoyed the bruschetta and the burrata. Our waiter recommended a side of pesto and balsamic glaze to go with the burrata which was definitely the move!! So good. We were disappointed in the lack of fresh tomatoes on the bruschetta and even with the burrata. It showed a slight bit of laziness on behalf of the kitchen, Italian food usually prides itself on fresh tomatoes and basil especially regarding these two dishes. It was still enjoyable but we would have preferred fresh tomatoes.
It was my first time here and I am so impressed. Nick was our waiter and his service was amazing. We ordered burrata and it was delicious I would definitely recommend to have it and then we ordered ravioli we didn’t like it that much it was ok, Nick made sure he took care of it and ensured that we left the restaurant happy. We were overwhelmed with his gesture. For dessert we ordered Tiramisu and it was yum. Special shoutout to Nick for his wonderful service absolutely no complaints!! If you haven’t tried this place, then do yourself a favor & try it ASAP!!
Where to start… The gluten free bread for the table was phenomenal. Our entire table was gluten free and tasted spot on. The chicken parm was huge and flavorful. The pasta alla carbonara was also great and had a perfect amount of sauce and was perfect with the chicken. Our waitress, Vanessa, was so nice and accommodating to our needs(lil bro had a crush). She even gave us a special off-the-menu desert after hearing about or gluten free travels. Will 100% come back again every time we’re near. The whole experience was SPOT ON!!!
I had an incredible experience at Marcello's. The warm, inviting atmosphere set the tone for a perfect evening. I ordered the three-cheese tortellini, and it was absolutely delicious—cooked to perfection with a rich, creamy sauce that hit all the right notes. The service was just as impressive. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and offered excellent recommendations that truly enhanced the meal. It’s rare to find such a perfect combination of great food and exceptional service, but this restaurant nailed it. I can’t wait to return and try more dishes! Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisines.
This is my second trip to Columbus for work, and both times I've made it a priority to stop at Marcella's--first at the Short North location, and now at Polaris. I can confidently say: this place delivers, consistently. The star of the show is the meatball. I'd seen all the rave reviews online, and let me tell you--they're not exaggerating. It comes paired with fettuccine alfredo and marinara, and the combo of sauces works surprisingly well together. The meatball itself? Easily the best I've ever had. And no, I haven't been to Italy (yet), but I've had my fair share of meatballs--and nothing has come close to this one. We also tried an Melted Pecorino Cheese appetizer that included melted cheese, fig jam, and apple slices -- and it was quite good. A perfect blend of sweet and savory. I had the Italian wedding soup, which was a bit heartier than most versions I've had. It was solid--nothing mind-blowing, but definitely above average. The Milan Manhattan cocktail was well balanced and smooth, and we finished with the pistachio cannoli, which were crisp, creamy, and not too sweet. A great way to end the meal. Both times I've visited Marcella's, the service has been warm and attentive, and the atmosphere feels just upscale enough for a nice dinner while still being relaxed. If you're in Columbus and enjoy Italian food, go here. And whatever you do--get the meatball. You won't regret it.
I’m mad at myself for not trying this place sooner!! Such a cute, homey vibe restaurant. The food was delicious, can’t beat the combo prices! HANDS DOWN THE BEST TOMATO SOUP I’VE TRIED!! & do you see the size of that complimentary cake??! It’s the most generous portion & it was delicious!! They even give you a card with a hand written note, what a thoughtful touch!! Service was wonderful, absolutely no complaints!! My best friend & I both agreed that this might be our annual birthday tradition, I’ll definitely be back way before then. If you haven’t tried this place, don’t be like me; do yourself a favor & try it ASAP!!
Great food! Honestly some of the best eggplant parm I've ever had.
Marcella Italian Kitchen offers a truly creative and delightful dining experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the innovative presentation of their calamari; it was a great start to the meal. The service was impeccable, and our server added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The food itself was nothing short of fantastic, with flavors that left a lasting impression. While it's true that Marcella Italian Kitchen leans towards the expensive side, I wholeheartedly agree that the quality of the dining experience justifies the price. For those seeking a unique and delicious Italian cuisine adventure, it's definitely worth the investment.
Outstanding service in an excellent atmosphere. Went to Marcella's last night after my university graduation, everyone's meals were delicious with generous portions, our waitress was personable and extremely capable (fast, kind, no mistakes on orders, drinks refilled promptly etc.). To top it all off my waitress also gifted me two spectacular cannolis for the road to celebrate my graduation. I'll definitely be back and encourage anyone on the fence to give it a try!!
Dined in during restaurant week. Menu had several great options. Server was polite and provided well excellent service from start to finish. Appetizers arrived promptly after ordering. Followed by salads and entrees. Enjoyed this dining experience and will return again.
One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. I've visted twice, once for a Valentine's Day lunch, and this last time for my fiancée's graduation and birthday. First of all, the staff at Marcella's are so kind; they wrote my fiancée a card for both occasions and covered her dessert (a delicious tiramisu). The service at Marcella's is just outstanding. We were constantly waited on and our servers were all extraordinarily kind. I wish I'd remembered their names so I could give them a shoutout, but unfortunately I can't recall. We began with two orders of Arancini, which were really great. For my main, I ordered the Fettuccine and Meatball at the recommendation of the waitress. My fiancée ordered the Chicken Carbonara. The food for our party of 7 came out in great time and was so good. Who knew a meatball could be so tender and flavorful? As for the fettuccine, it was great, and the sauce had a really great taste. The dish was perfect, I highly recommend trying it. My fiancée's carbonara was also excellent. Very wide selection of wines; I tried the house red, which was quite good. As mentioned previously, she had tiramisu, which was incredible. I ordered the cannoli, which was similarly great. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean and the music isn't overwhelming at all (a common problem that can inhibit good conversation). There's really nothing to dislike about Marcella's. If you're looking for great Italian food which is both well worth the price without being too costly, then this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed!
Just unbelievably good on all ways. Best chicken marsala I've ever had! Reasonably priced too!
Date night, the crispy chicken Caesar was amazing, the bruschetta was fabulous, both nicely paired with an old fashion.
My boyfriend and I came to celebrate our 1 year anniversary! This is where we went on our first date! When we first arrived, I felt like the vibe was off like the hostesses were not super friendly like just okay so my expectations were low. We get sat and our server was immediately attentive and asked us if we were there for a special occasion. I told her we were celebrating our one year and she was so happy for us. She ended up bringing us a happy anniversary card which was so sweet and thoughtful. Everything we ordered was great and delicious but the real star was our server, Ali Henderson! I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a nicer server before. She was awesome!
We visited on a Thursday around roughly 4pm and had no trouble finding a table. The staff was incredibly friendly and the waiter gave us ample time to sort through the menu. With so many good options to choose from, I opted in to getting the Penne ala vodka which was beyond delicious. My family ended up ordering the pasta your way and spaghetti with meatballs which were both great as well. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any choice and hope to come back to try more! You also can’t beat that delicious bread!
Best Italian meals we have had in our entire lives! Literally, best meatball ever, it was the size of a baseball. Our server was amazing, the food came out quick, especially for a Friday night! A must visit, I wish we lived in C-Bus because this restaurant is absolutely epic!
Great all round Italian restaurant with more than plenty of choices for Gluten Free options. The Gluten Free options here almost make you want to question if they are actually GF as they are soooo delicious!
Went here for restaurant week. We both did the $35 dinner (3 courses). Got the Arancini appetizer (fried cheesy risotto, caesar salad, and one was fettuccine & meatball entree, and the other was chicken parm entree. Over all generous portions and food was fresh and hot! Pleasant visit.
It has been a while since I have eaten here. Our entree was chicken marsala. Since we ordered a lot of appetizers and we didn't want to get stuffed we actually we're going to share the entree. And the waitress actually split it onto plates to make it feel like we got one meal with actually was just enough really. And it was delicious it was on a bed of polenta and the chicken and the sauce was amazing. It was a great atmosphere. We weren't super stuffed. Our waitress was awesome and attentive. It was just a nice outing with me and my husband and no kids lol.
Have been here multiple times. Food is always fresh and delicious. Tons of menu items available. Service is always very friendly. Highly recommend.
I am never disappointed by the food here, whether I eat there or take it to go. The veal meatball literally melts in your mouth. The gnocchi bolognese has the most pillowy gnocchi and the sauce is loaded with braised lamb. Highly recommend.
This is my happy place. We live in Dublin and don’t venture out often. This is my bday dinner with our fam of six, once a year. It’s always fantastic. I love that our adult kids literally talk about my bday dinner all year at Marcella’s. And it was perfect again tonight. The food is fantastic! Our waitress, who had many tables was amazing!
Solid and worthy. The food was on queue, we all were served at the right time none felt like it was on the warmers for any length of time. It was fresh and tasted just so. The service was attentive, they were busy yet he did not miss a beat. Great experience we all enjoyed our time, the food and staffs engagement. Thank you for a great birthday dinner.
Lively atmosphere, attentive servers and nice food/beverage selection for happy hour. Bar gets busy, so arrive early for happy hour or reserve a high top table.
Loved our waitress Coryne. She was so attentive and kind giving us the best service. Food was great too! I will definitely be coming back soon!
We absolutely love Marcella’s. It is our family’s go to for special occasions. The food is always excellent, the host staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, and the service is wonderful. Huge shout out to our server Alec for being so attentive and kind and for making our birthday celebration with two young kids so smooth and special. We will be back and requesting Alec again soon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A great spot to have a nice meal - I’ve been eating here for years. I’ve ate solo at the bar, brought dates here and celebrated my kids birthdays here. Solid menu, great wine selection, I’ve always thought the staff were well trained. It can get loud on a Friday/Saturday night but nothing that would stop me from booking a table.
We all absolutely LOVED our meal and our service. I had Create your own pasta with gluten free pasta and several veggies of my choice topped with shrimp. They offer gluten free bread which is delicious and a wonderful addition I never receive at other restaurants. I also enjoyed a chopped salad before my meal and it was very tasty. My husband and father-in-law had the chicken parm. We all had enormous portions and brought home enough for a leftover lunch. The only negative is that it is not a quiet restaurant. If you’re looking for a quiet atmosphere this is not your place. However, it is lively, friendly and welcoming. They also allow reservations. I highly recommend making reservations. We were seated without a wait because we had them. When we have visited without reservations we had to sit in the bar, which is much louder and not as comfortable.
A friend and I visited Marcella’s at Polaris on a Saturday around 8pm. We made a reservation ahead of time. This was the first time both of us had dined at the restaurant. The food, service and ambiance were good and the meal was reasonably priced. I got a Caesar salad, Tuscan lemonata cocktail, roasted garlic and cheese bruschetta, lasagna, and chocolate almond cake. I would return.
Went here for dinner. The service was good as drinks where refilled quickly. Waitress was attentive but not intrusive. As for food it was good for most people at the table. My food had watery sauce at the bottom. The desert was nice looking but nothing special. Bruschettta was closer to a chessey garlic bread. Not a traditional version. It did taste good but not what was expected.
First time eating here and it was all right. The facility itself is beautiful. Everyone was very friendly and courteous, attentive without being intrusive. The food was okay. My fried calamari was salted pretty heavily and my ravioli was a little tough as if underdone or old. But it all tasted good. But for the prices (just over $50 for an appetizer and and entree, water, no dessert) I expected something more.
Wife and I had reservations for dinner and we were excited because we hadn't been to Marcella's for a few years. She still recalls the first time she went and was refused service because she was wearing shorts, well that's a rule that has obviously gone out the window, as we were in the minority being dressed up for date night. With our drinks we order the Assorted Warm Olives and they were just as delicious as we recalled from our last visit. Our entrées were the Chicken Piccata and the Sausage Risotto. The chicken could have been more moist, but the sausage was flavorful and rich. The seating could have been arranged better and more comfortable, but overall it was a good dining experience.
The food was pretty good and they were able to handle special requests on menu items which was appreciated. However, it is definitely pricey for the average family. It’s also pretty dark and can be crowded. We also waited around an hour to receive our food which seemed like a long time. I think our waitress completely disappeared for a good 20 minutes before we were ready to order so waited a while for drinks and bread too
I only gave it four stars because the chicken parmesan with alfredo noodles was kind of bland for my taste but the espresso Martini made by Amanda was amazing. She definitely knows what she's doing. The arancini appetizer is definitely one to get. I went for lunch so it was pretty quiet and I ate in the bar lounge with less people. The staff is quite friendly and the atmosphere was clean especially the bathrooms which I always pay attention to.
Gnocchi Bolognese was delicious. Chicken Parmesan basic. Four cheese tortellini was a bjt spicy. Service good for a holiday weekend.
We recently visited Marcella’s, and while there were several positives, a few issues might deter us from returning.Starting with the good: the food was undeniably tasty, and the service was attentive and friendly. The staff worked hard to make sure everyone was taken care of, and the overall atmosphere had potential to be enjoyable. However, two major concerns impacted our experience. First, the seating arrangement was extremely cramped. The tables are placed so close together that it felt like we were having dinner with strangers. The person seated behind me kept bumping into my chair repeatedly, and while it wasn’t entirely his fault, the lack of space made it impossible to avoid. On the other side, a large table of 25 people with kids added to the chaos. The children were jumping around, and at times, they hit our table, which was disruptive and frustrating.Second, the way wine service was handled was disappointing. As someone who enjoys wine, I prefer to finish my glass before refilling it, but the server kept adding more wine on top of what I was already drinking. This is not proper wine etiquette, and despite politely asking them to let me serve myself, the server insisted on filling my glass completely, turning it into something that resembled a beer glass. It felt intrusive and took away from the experience of enjoying my drink. While Marcella’s has great food and good service, the cramped seating and lack of proper wine etiquette made the visit less enjoyable than it could have been. These factors might make us reconsider coming back in the future.
I’ve heard about this restaurant for years and always heard great things. A friend of mine came into town and he said that he wanted Italian. So I thought this would be a good time to check out a place I hadn’t been before. The service was great, the hostess and waitress staff was amazing. But the food wasn’t good at all. We ordered salads , bread and for our entrees we ordered the eggplant parmesan and the regular chicken Parmesan , it seemed to me the chicken and noodles had no flavor at all. I didn’t complain because the food already took forever to come out. I don’t think I will be back at all the food just wasn’t with the price in my opinion. For desert we tried the ricotta cheesecake was just okay.
Disappointing experience for my first time at Marcella's. We went on a Sunday around 230PM and it wasnt extremely busy but they had a lot of large groups. We were seated relatively promptly but it took the server about 25 minutes to introduce himself and take our order. He also kept forgetting the smaller things like a straw for my drink. One good thing was their food presentation was delightful. Very picture perfect. The pasta itself I thought was pretty dry and disappointing but their tomato soup was really good! Hopefully this was a one time mishap as I see others having great experiences.
1st batch of bread they brought out was cold and didn't appear to be fresh. 2nd round was good. Minestrone soup was on the colder side of Luke warm and flavorless. Side salad was ok. I had linguini with clams, which had other seafood spare parts in it which is totally cool, but again, no flavor (no fish or clam broth, stock, butter, or salt that I could tell to bring out the flavor) and the noodles were waaaay over cooked. I tasted my son's pizza which was just ok. My wife had a meatball with her meal which she let me taste and that had some really good flavor. Service was attentive. They comped 2 desserts because of birthdays. It's very possible I just got an unpopular dish. If I ever go back I'll stick to something with red sauce and get a meatball which I know they are known for.
My partner and i have been steady regulars of Marcella's for 3 years now. It was our go-to anniversary and birthday spot since we found the high street location. We loved this Polaris location since the ambiance was a bit quieter and more intimate than high street, and parking lots are a plus. Prior to this recent visit, they've been stellar! Amazing service, and the food has always been expensive but completely worth it. My partner has gotten the lamb gnocci every time, and it's always been melt in your mouth delicious, and I have always tried something new and never been disappointed. Until now, at least. Our most recent meal was a SHOCKING 180° turn around from the stellar italian food and service that we've come to appreciate and expect. The bread was chewy and not very fresh feeling once it had cooled to room temp. The lamb gnocci was tough and dry. The chicken in my tortellini was slimy, grey, and tasted like it was frozen and thawed then sat in a warmer for a while. The food also came out suspiciously fast. We opted to not get dessert this time but i still got my affogato and he got a hot chocolate. The affogato was first delivered as just a scoop of ice cream in a cup with nothing else, and when we were delivered an actual affogato, instead of the warm, rich espresso with the gelato spooned onto the sides of a mug (which i had gotten previously), i got what tasted like watery, cold espresso (or even a cold brew honestly) with a scoop of slightly freezer burnt ice cream plopped in. In addition, after getting gome, we were both VERY sick, but me more than my partner We weren't looking for a meal comp but the manager kind of foisted it upon us (and it was either a comp or sending us home with more food, even though we had just finished explaining how disappointing the food was). We were only looking to give feedback about how shocked we were at the sudden and sharp quality decline. Its not like we WANT to be disappointed by our favorite, regular, and sentimental restaurant. Honestly the manager sounded very insincere and like she just wanted to "make us happy" and leave, and she was defensive about all of our very valid concerns and feedback and i am not at all confident that our concerns were taken to heart Im not sure what caused this sudden and sharp decline, however, my guess is different management. I sadly cannot recommend marcella's anymore, especially not for the price of $13 for an appetizer and $21 minimum for an entree. And ESPECIALLY not after getting me sick This is really sad to see, i hope management reads this and turns around whatever changes happened this past year or so to cause such a steep decline in quality and service
Although the restaurant was almost empty, we had to wait more than 30 minutes for our food. They brought the children's food first, and when the children had finished their meal, the waitress brought the adults' food. My plate, which was supposed to be ravioli, only had 5 ravioli swimming in a plate of sauce that was quite salty. The children's grapes all seemed spoiled; none of them ate them. We asked several times for bread and drink refills, and it seemed like she always forgot. When we asked for the bill, she didn't bring us a receipt, just the card reader, without letting us see what we were paying for, and she asked for a tip, In short, bad service and an extremely expensive meal for what it was.
I had lasagna. Wife had eggplant. No bread was given with dinner. When more people came in to eat they brought bread right away to their table. Never offered anything else but water because we didn't drink alcohol. The sauce on lasagna was not good. Only ate 1/2. Wife said the same thing about hers. She took some home with her but tossed it ito the garbage when we got home. I will not recommend this place and I will never go back. Really expensive to me for the quality of the food. Waitress was friendly in the beginning then food came out and never asked how everything tasted. So to me 👎👎👎👎
Wedding soup was mostly broth with a couple meatballs. Chicken Parmesan was horrible. Unable to eat due to rubber texture and poor taste, and just down right nasty. They took it off the bill which was awesome. However, when I went to pay they tried to say a 20% tip on $11 was $7.68! Watch your bill here too!
Ordered a 22$ chicken Alfredo to get chicken and noodles. Barely any sauce completely dry. Olive Garden is somehow better. Will never go again.
We walked in and asked how long the wait would be for a table for 4. We were told about 25 minutes, so we decided to wait. 40 minutes later after only moving up one spot on the waitlist we left. During out wait 4 reservations were seated, and 2 were waiting so long they were offered a free appetizer. Clearly things were taking a lot longer than expected, but having been a host, when you’re that full and have several reservations coming in, you shouldn’t be quoting people 25 minutes. Not to mention I heard her tell several parties after us the same amount of time even with things getting so backed up. Very disappointing.
Went here for my birthday this past week. My party made mention that it was my birthday for the reservation but nothing was communicated to the server. The biggest issue here are the fairly pretentious prices for the mid to low grade food. Examples: Bread served with only olive oil. Olive oil container was disgusting. Every ten years or so these need to be drained and cleaned. Chicken piccata x2 was consistently dry throughout. Must have been waiting all day for someone to buy it. The Marsala chicken was super sweet and was served on a bed of polenta. This was disgusting. Chicken also very dry. This didn’t even taste like Marsala. We got an appetizer that was $14 and it had six small crostini’s and a quarter of an apple sliced with about 8 oz of pecorino cheese. Tasty but value was horrible. My daughter’s glass was cracked. Our meal was $125 and none of us finished the meals nor did we take home leftovers. This should ALWAYS be an opportunity for the server or non-visible management team to notice and fix the issues. Unfortunately this did not happen.
Came with a large-ish group and left annoyed. Service was good. We had a reservation and were sat quickly and never had to wait long for anything. Waitress was really nice but for the fat tip (which was already included in the bill for some dumb large group policy reason), all she did was take our orders and refill our waters once the entire time we were there. Was busy and not her fault but still a bit ridiculous. The food was a different story. We ordered a couple appetizers (arancini, melted pecorino cheese) and they were disappointingly average. Very small portions and not much flavor for such a high end restaurant. None tasted bad but definitely not worth ordering again. We had a group of about eight so I’m not sure how everyone’s entrees were, but mine was genuinely horrid. I ordered the four-cheese tortellini. This is the first time I’ve had tortellini in my life that I even disliked, let alone hated. It came in an Alfredo sauce that was scarce (and also spicy?) and had the same consistency as water. The pasta was extremely dry and chewy, and was absolutely caked in what I realized after was supposed to be “toasted Parmesan” but at the time thought were burnt bread crumbs they scraped from the back of an oven. The spinach was cold, mushy and slimy and there was just way too much of it. But the worst part was the chicken. This “roasted chicken” was 100% from a can. Stringy, chewy, and had a putrid sort of fishy taste that can only come from being in a can and marinating in its own stink water. Took two bites at the restaurant and when I got home i thought I’d give it another shot. Took one bite, gagged, and threw it in the trash. Absolutely ridiculous for the 25 dollar price tag on the meal. I had never been to a Cameron Mitchell restaurant but I had heard great things and was looking forward to it. Will probably never go to another. If you’re looking for a fancy Italian night, I would recommend Giammarcos. Better in literally every way.
