We went to Painter’s Tavern with our baby and were greeted right away with warm smiles! The staff was so friendly and welcoming, which made us feel really comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious. It was fresh, flavorful, and there were so many yummy options to choose from. We started with the nachos as an appetizer (thankfully we got the half order!) and they were huge and so good. The place was clean, had a fun atmosphere with music, and was very family friendly (yay). Prices were reasonable too. We’ll definitely be coming back!!
Update 1/31: Brunch at Painters is BACK baby!! I went as party of a party of six and everyone left 100% satisfied. We had the biscuits and sausage gravy, blueberry pancakes, omelets, corned beef hash and eggs. Everything was scratch-made from the coffee cake, sourdough bread and the bagels from Rocky Bagel down the street. Ever since Jocelyn bought the restaurant and inn she has found a wonderful staff and added her touch to everything else. If you want to find me on Sundays... you know where I'll be. Thank you Jocelyn, Phil, Frank, Ryan, Michelle, Cindy and team!! Original review: My wife and I have been regulars since the reopening. We missed Painter’s when it closed. Jocelyn, Frank, Phil, Jeff, Jordan and the entire staff are wonderful. The food is consistently great and the new items like the chicken beast and steak entrees are excellent. The chicken sandwich is second to none. The prices are very reasonable for food and drinks.
Wonderful decor and outstanding food and service. It’s was a pleasure to enjoy lunch there with family. And the French Onion Soup was to die for!
We went to Painters to celebrate NYE ! From start to finish, our experience was absolutely wonderful! The food was outstanding , fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was just as impressive: attentive, professional, and warm without ever feeling rushed. The staff Cindy , Phil, Ryan and Joslyn were incredibly friendly and made us feel genuinely welcome. On top of that, the atmosphere was gorgeous and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. Highly recommend!
My wife and I stumbled on Painters Tavern while driving through Cornwall on Hudson yesterday. We really loved everything about the place. Great service, delightful staff, delicious and modestly priced food and drinks. We met and chatted with the relatively new owner who was delightful. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. As for the very few reviewers who gave this place poor ratings and comments…shame on you. Burger King and McDonalds will always love you as customers.
Me and my buddy stopped in on the way back to the city after a successful hunting trip up in the Catskills Area. Located in the Village of Cornwall on Hudson, this is a local institution with a lot of history. Jocelyn, the new owner, welcomed us in early even though service wasn't ready until noon. Despite this, the food was served quickly and accurately. Our server was fast and attentive. I ordered the BLT Salmon Sandwich and my buddy ordered the Reuben. We both got the French Onion soup. Food was excellent and fresh, the fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere itself is of special consideration, I had remarked to Jocelyn how everything was so very well thought out, and the pieces she lovingly displayed were acquired over a period of forty years...it felt as if each piece had a story. There were three dining areas available, and two bars, one having the feel of an old "Speak Easy" with Sex Appeal as Jocelyn herself described it. If you're in the area passing through, a local looking for fun, or a visitor seeing the fall foliage and quaint village, it is worth your time for a stop in, a delicious meal and historical visit. You won't be disappointed.
My family needed a place to gather after my father’s calling hours. I was assured that my family would be welcomed and their needs met even though I couldn’t give an exact number of people or what they would need. That is exactly what happened. The staff worked together to get my family seated near each other and orders were taken and needs were met. I didn’t eat but bounced from table to table and overall the space, the service, the drinks and the food met our needs. Thank you for taking care of our family on this difficult night.
Had a burger and fish and chips both were excellent. Butterscotch pudding for dessert was pretty solid too. The decor is lovely whether you dine in or go to the bar. Hostess/owner is very pleasant and welcoming.
We visited on A day weekend to celebrate our cadet. Wow! Great food, wonderful vibe. This is our favorite place in the Hudson River valley so far. Loved the awesome outdoor area in the front. Beautiful plants. It was a busy weekend, thank you for accommodating us (and our pup) on a very hot day. We appreciated you going out of your way. Thank you! We will be back.
We have been here 4-5 times for both date nights and family meals with small kids. There has been a good atmosphere and great service in both the dining room and bar area. The cocktails have been delicious every time we ordered. Big fans of the Apricot after Dark and Touch of Blue. The seafood risotto special, roasted beet salad, Isabella shells, and gnocchi ragu have all been delicious with very generous portion sizes. The classic Caesar is the only dish we were not a huge fan of due to some very strong dressing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Dining Experience for the Whole Family We had such a great time dining here! The food was absolutely delicious – everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. There’s a good variety on the menu, so everyone found something they loved, even the picky eaters in our group. What really stood out, though, was how kid-friendly the restaurant is. The staff especially the man at the front were so welcoming and patient with our little ones, and there were even kid’s menu options and high chairs readily available. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-oriented, which made it easy for us to enjoy our meal without stress. The service was also excellent – friendly, attentive, and genuine. It’s clear the staff really care about making sure guests feel comfortable and taken care of. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place that’s great for both adults and kids. We’ll definitely be coming back
After having heard great things about Painters, my husband and I went for lunch. This place is incredible ! From the moment you walk in you’re greeted by the friendliest people. The artful decor is amazing. The food is delicious. My husband had the French dip and said it was the best he’s ever had. I had the beet salad and it was so good. Our server, Alyssa, was wonderful. So attentive. We met Phil who manages just about everything there. Keeps it running in tip top shape ! We finished it off with a slice of the most delicious chocolate cake ! Highly recommend and we’ll definitely return.
Painters Tavern is this enchanting restaurant and Inn in the heart of town for Cornwall on the Hudson. And this past week we enjoyed a lovely dinner here thanks to our new local friends who adore this place. Service was great and the menu quite extensive with a lot of options including locally-sourced foods. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer and a charcuterie board as well as the goat cheese salad and the stuffed pork loin special with gravy and the fried buttermilk chicken sandwich. Also the drinks and wine selections were spot on and season appropriate! The desserts looked amazing but we had no room😳 don’t forget to pet the Painters Bull Dog when you leave. Affordable and delicious options this close to the city is a precious find. 😍
We stumbled upon this cute restaurant on our way to the Hudson Valley. The atmosphere was so fun. They had a lovely patio and inside the restaurant too. The artwork was so funky. We took a picture of the cool bulldog statue in front of the place. We are english bulldog lovers. The food was fun tasty and the prices were right. Very good service everything was in a timely manner. As we were leaving a wonderful woman talked with us. We told her very happy with our experience. Oh by the way the bar area is so fun. This place is a gem. I recommend everyone support this little gem. Great for girlfriend lunch and drinks too.
⭐️ First Time, Lifelong Family – Love from Texas! 🇺🇸🌟 From the moment we walked through the door, we knew we were in for a treat. Greeted with a warm smile and seated immediately, this American gem made a lasting impression on our very first visit. Our server, Jesse, was an absolute standout — a rare gem with a heart of gold and service that goes above and beyond. Friendly, attentive, and full of positive energy, Jesse made us feel right at home and added that extra sparkle to our celebration. 🙌 The atmosphere? On point. 🎶 Soft music floated through the air, setting the tone for a cozy, laid-back dining experience. The décor was modern with just the right touch of cool — a vibe that says, “Relax. You’re in good hands.”Now the food — WOW. Fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was worth savoring, and we didn’t leave a single crumb behind. It’s the kind of meal that lingers in your memory (and makes you wish you ordered seconds). And to top it off, a heartfelt thank you to the team for helping us celebrate our graduate. Your kind gestures and attention to detail truly made the night special. 🎓💫 If you haven’t been yet, what are you waiting for? Go treat yourself to a lasting, delicious experience. From the Lone Star State with love — See you again soon!
We were in town for West Point Graduation and decided to try Painter's Tavern for dinner. LOVE the ambiance and decor, food was delicious and great service. We had a few different salads, salmon and French onion soup, and all were great. Some of the specials looked amazing. Hopefully we are able to come back again sometime!
As many times as I have been to Painter's, I was surprised I hadn't reviewed yet. They are under new management and back open for business! The menu is not overly complicated with great options. They also have specials on certain nights. The bar area has seating in the room, and there are separate quieter dining rooms and an amazing second bar and space. The second bar is open on weekends and for private events. The have great outside seating which is really nice in warm weather. Fabulous dog sculpture in the bar. I didnt want to sit on it till the sign said don't sit on it. :) It's definitely a local spot... and you always want to go where the locals go. I got the Buttermilk chicken flatbread with Buffalo sauce. The amount of cheese on it was phenomenal, and I didn't even have to ask for extra cheese! My friend and local got the beet salad. It looked to die for, and he was quite pleased. It was a little loud for him in the bar area, but I was able to tune it out. There were quite a few folks in there. The service was great and we were well taken care of. The Chritmas decorations were still up, and it was all beautiful. Great visit!
Great food. Really cool ambiance and decor. Spot on with the theme of a Painters Taven right down to the menus. Signature cocktails and elegant twists on everyday food choices. Burgers, Sandwiches, Entrees, and Apps. Even Nachos. All the food is really well placed and portioned. Fried Chicken sandwich keeps me coming back for more.
Nice little spot for an early New Year's Eve dinner. It was chilly on thr patio but lots of heaters around. My companions loved their meals but my Isabella shells was just OK.
Food was good. Can't say the same about the owner. One of the people in our party got into the unnecessary, minor argument with young waiter. Owner got involved and handled the situation in the most unprofessional way possible making the rest of the people in our party and the other customers around us feel extremely uncomfortable.
This was a memory destination for us coming from NJ. I called to make a reservation but that is only possible now by ‘stopping in’. We arrived at 6:30, no one was at the front desk to seat us. When someone finally showed up we asked to be seated outside but were told that was not possible because of a large group event at 7pm. We were told we would need to wait an hour for a table. When we didn’t leave we were pointed to a sitting room and after waiting 5 minutes we were seated in the back room of the cafe which is the noisy space due to no carpeting. There were empty tables everywhere. I guess they really wanted us to leave despite the fact that we drove all the way from NJ. Pretty disappointing! When we left at 7:45 there was no one outside on the porch either. Reminds me of the restaurants that tell you they don’t have a table available despite being empty and they are usually gone (out of business) soon thereafter.
Husband and I went because we passed by and it was so pretty. The property is really delightful . We chose to sit inside, which was a mistake because it was freezing. The food was terrible. For appetizers we had the beet salad and the fried calamari. The salad was fine, the calamari was clearly from a frozen food whole seller, but at least it warmed us up a bit. Husband had a burger that was worse than what I would expect from a carnival truck. I had the French dip. It was terrible. Tasted like steak-ums with a side of Campbells onion soup for dipping. This was not restaurant quality food.
