Opinions de The Tavern Coronado
Great food! Our party had the fish n chips, tomato soup, Mac n cheese, steak, salad, and shishito pepper burger. Nothing disappointed. And our server, Maddie, was fantastic, very attentive to us.
Tavern has a great casual atmosphere and surprisingly good food. The sliders, fish and chips, and Wagyu steak tacos were all flavorful and well-prepared. Their Brussels sprouts are definitely a standout. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly, and the happy hour deals make it even better. It’s a comfortable spot to unwind, grab a drink, and enjoy some solid bar-style comfort food. I’d happily come back again.
This restaurant is a true 5-star experience. The establishment is lovely with seating below street level and neat windows that look towards the sky. The bar is at the lowest level, and seating is terraced from higher to lower levels. The food is amazing. Tavern is my first 9.5/10 Fish & Chips. The fish is perfectly fried with a light yet superbly crunchy crust without being too oily, and even after applying lemon and vinegar the crust maintains its satisfying crunch for many minutes. When you bite into the fish, it flakes apart perfectly and is superbly tender as fish should be. There is a complete absence of voids in the crust, mushy spots, or unfried batter which creates a thoroughly enjoyable experience while eating your Fish & Chips. It is served hot out of the fryer, so you may need a moment to let it cool down without scalding your mouth. The fish has a subtle and pleasant flavor without adding lemon, vinegar, or tartar sauce, all of which they serve in just enough quantities to complete your meal. My only point to improve would be to add a little more spice to make the flavor pop a bit more. I cannot recommend the Fish & Chips enough if you go here.
Was here quite a few years ago and did not love it. This time the food was much better. I would recommend getting the sliders they were great. This is a great spot to watch a football game on a TVs and they have a very good happy hour. The service was really good. The mac and cheese was even better
This is one of the BEST spots in Coronado. It's casual, but, the food is amazing! Highly recommend the fish tacos and prawns. Plus, hopefully you'll get Rosie as your waitress. She is very attentive and does a wonderful job! We eat here every time we are in town!
Great restaurant if you’re looking for a casual eating spot after a nice day at the beach. Walking distance from the sand (maybe 10 minutes). I had the French Martini for my drink and the wagyu steak for my entree. The drink was fruity and refreshing; the steak was tender, flavorful, and filling even if you don’t want something too heavy. The only downside was a dog inside the restaurant, but that seems to be a pretty common theme here. Overall a good experience, would definitely try again!
Diamond in the rough! This place hits all the spots I look for when going out for a quick bite and tasty drinks with the fam! The wife, kids, and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We were at immediately on a Friday as they were quick to clean up after the previous guests. The drinks (margs and palomas) were delicious and prepared quickly. The food (chicken parm sammy, kids burgers, and wagyu steak tacos) was equally as delicious and came out very quick for a packed house. The server was on point with the kids, drinks, and food. Glenn (i think) was attentive and spot on with service. The music and atmosphere were perfect for kids. Loud enough to cover up any kid chatter and not too loud that we couldn't hear each other have adult time. Kind of mad we found this spot the last night of our stay.
Great subterranean spot in Coronado village. Reservations are accepted and encouraged, but that's a really big space and there is usually a spot. If not the wait tends to not be too long. Fantastic pub fair, with some nicer plates as well. Prices are spot-on and you don't feel like you're being taken advantage of and a resort town. Wait staff was great, perfect amount of banter and distance. Recommended!
Our recent dining experience at Tavern was genuinely unforgettable. One of the co-owners, Hannah Ewers, warmly greeted us and personally seated us near the window. She even recommended the Lavender Lemonade cocktail made with their house-made lavender syrup, which was awesome! We started with the Artisan Cheese and Charcuterie Board, which was beautifully presented with a delightful selection of cheeses, cured meats, and accompaniments. One of our friends also enjoyed the delicious Summer Corn Soup. I had the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich for the main course, which was incredible with its basil pesto, marinara, mozzarella, provolone, and focaccia. Others in our group enjoyed the Grilled Bacon & Blistered Shishito Pepper Burger and the Ensenada-style crispy Fish Tacos, both cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with the Fresh Baked Cast Iron Cookie and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream—warm, gooey, and perfect for sharing. The Tavern offers outstanding food and excellent service in a welcoming and cozy ambiance. It's a true gem on Coronado Island, and I highly recommend it. We were so impressed that we're already planning our next meal!
I came to Coronado to visit a friend and we decided to go to dinner here at The Tavern. We had heard from other recommendations that we should give them a try. The parking in the area can be tricky. There are numerous street-parking opportunities nearby and it's important to be mindful of the ones that have a 2-hour parking limit and which ones are unlimited. I parked about 3.5 blocks down by the beach and it was a short walk. The interior of The Tavern is very reminiscent of an old Irish Pub of sorts. Mostly all wooden, homey decor, kind of an earthy overtone and I could appreciate the vibes. Service was superb, friendly & super-attentive 🙂 I chose seating at a window booth, instead of a high-table. One thing to note is that depending on the season & weather, although you're indoors, it can get a bit chilly and you may still want a sweater. Oh and their bathroom was super-clean and that's always a plus and speaks to the cleanliness & organization of an establishment. I ordered the pork belly tostadas (street tacos) that come a gooseberry demi-glaze for starters and their "fish and chips". The tostadas were freakin amazing! Meat was cooked to perfection, tender and the gooseberry sauce lended a subtle sweetness to the flavors. The tostada was crispy & not soggy and complimented the tender meat. The fish and chips were disappointing however. Their size was smaller than I anticipated, the texture of the first one was crispy and the other two tended to be soggy on the underside (indicative of too much oil). The flavor was as expected & good and the tartar sauce was basic, but worked to boost the flavor profile. Unfortunately, the last two fish pieces were so soft that they crumbled when trying to dip them. The only big win is that I was told that they use fresh local fish and that's why I ordered them (support local fishermen). I just think that $21 was a bit steep for this experience. For dessert, I ordered the churros & hot chocolate dip and got a side of vanilla icecream. This was the perfect sweet treat! I got 3 long churros warm, a bowl of hot chocolate sauce to dip them in and the cool icecream complemented the entire experience 😊 Overall, I really liked my experience at The Tavern. Other than the overpriced fish & chips, my dining went well and the vibes inside are great for a date night or just socializing with friends.
While staying nearby, in downtown San Diego, we came to Coronado for the evening and stopped in here… We decided on The Tavern because of all the great reviews and this place definitely didn’t disappoint! Our service was excellent, from the host greeting & seating us, to our server and the speed of our service. The menu was really nicely done, loaded with nice bar bites, as well as bigger plates. Wine line and cocktails are done quite nicely here too. We started with their Mexican shrimp which was grilled and served with their romesco – It was OUTSTANDING! The shrimp was fresh and tasted great on their own, but the sauce and pickled veggies were a very nice touch. But while eating this, we were still deciding on main courses and after seeing the sliders walk by, I wanted those. I NEVER order sliders, as they’re typically overdone. But something about the way these looked and the description of them and their burger in the menu told me I was in for a treat. I most definitely had some of the BEST hamburger I’ve ever had! The sliders were the best for sure, but if they do their burgers that same way (referring to the meat, which is local grass fed beef, hand packed, perfectly cooked to temp over a wood flame, with a kiss of smoke to the fatty parts of the meat – WOW!), then they probably make some of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Highly recommend stopping in!
What a delightful place!!! Randomly decided to pop over to the Coronado downtown for dinner and to our dismay many places had an hour plus wait. I called the Tavern and they said they could immediately accommodate my partner and I. We walked right in and the place was very busy and bustling but still had many tables available. The ambiance and decor is so lovely with big open windows but still having a underground grotto feel when inside. The food is delicious!! We started with the Filet mignon tacos and ordered two drinks, I LOVED my Sage and Ginger drink and both our drinks had this Tiki vibe taste with some class to them. Afterwards we ordered the tomato soup and wow it was amazing. You could tell they used an emulsifier on the suit because the consistency was just perfect and the cream on top was phenomenal. After that we decided to order the charcuterie tray, order again because it had a bit too much bread and I wish they had more meat and more cheese. Still delicious. After that I ordered the old fashioned and we also ordered the chicken pot pie which was phenomenal I had a huge piece of puff pastry on top that was perfectly cooked it was just filled to the BRIM with chicken and vegis! After 6 drinks and 4 plates the total came out to 130. The service was also phenomenal I love how this evening a lot of the chefs were bringing out the food it was super cool to see the white coats bringing out food to people!
Really awesome experience...a new favorite for our family. My husband and I were looking for a dog-friendly place for lunch and Tavern was perfect. We enjoyed the burrata and tomato starters, halibut tacos, mac and cheese, and Brussels sprouts. Our server Katrina was so attentive and sweet towards our dogs. A few hours later we actually returned with several other family members and had more drinks, because we had such a good time earlier. This time Lucas was our server who was equally knowledgeable and attentive. He also took great care of our dogs by bringing them each a slice of bacon. What a treat for them! We'd absolutely return to this place next time we're in town.
Nice spot in coronado. We had the happy hour Brussels sprouts and the Mac and cheese. 4 bucks each. Brussels were excellent by themselves, but we mixed a few with the Mac and it was a surprise combo. I had the fish and chips. They were good, probably sat for a few while my fiance chicken pot pie was cooking. Her pot pie was ripping hot and delicious. A few happy hour beers and it was a great place to go to.
Tavern in Coronado is my go-to for a reliable, low-key spot in Coronado. It's never overly busy, which is a major plus. 🍽️ The Food: 4/5 The Wagyu steak tacos are the star of the show. They're delicious and offer excellent value, especially during happy hour. Honestly, the regular menu prices are also pretty good. 🛎️ The Service: 2/5 Service is inconsistent. It can range from decent to just okay. It's not a deal-breaker, but don't expect consistently attentive service. 🌃 The Ambiance: 3/5 It's a bit underground, so it's a darker, more intimate atmosphere. It's perfect for watching a game, having a quick lunch, or a post-work hangout. You're guaranteed a seat, which is a huge bonus. 💰 The Value: 5/5 Happy hour prices are phenomenal. The standard prices are also very reasonable, making it a great value overall. 📈 The Verdict: If you're looking for a reliable spot with great Wagyu tacos and fantastic happy hour deals, Tavern in Coronado is a solid choice. The inconsistent service is the only real downside. It's a great spot for a casual, no-fuss meal or drink.
Great spot located on the main street, but set on a lower level to create a lovely and intimate setting. Outdoor seating is available, but the interior truly is warm and inviting with lots of wood, stone, low lighting and subtle floral accents. Our bartender/server Hannah was great. Friendly, attentive, quick and helpful. My husband had the sliders, which he enjoyed. I ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which were flash fried and too burnt for me. I couldn't find any green in the dish. All the sprouts looked and tasted overdone. Thankfully, the dish was removed from our bill and I was given a chance to order something else. I chose the Tomato Soup Gratinée, which was INCREDIBLE. It came out in a small bowl, but the serving was perfect. The soup was rich and satisfying with lots of mozarella. All in all, a spot worth visiting.
Loved the Old California style interior and the partially subterranean setting. ~ The Red Gem & Pear Salad was nice - the lemon chips were fun and flavorful. ~ The Summer Corn Soup was outstanding, kicked up several notches by the colorful chili oil, crunchy tortilla strips, rich queso fresco and refreshing micro cilantro - easily the best thing I ate all day.
