Excellent barbeque brisket, sausage and chopped beef. Also have had the pork loin and pork ribs, both excellent! Lots of yummy vegetables and fresh salad. I should have taken a picture but there was nothing left on my plate. Only improvement I can think of would be a vinegar based BBQ sauce.
The best 45 mins you can spend on your lunch break. Employees are always welcoming. Food tastes like my uncle BBQ'd out back, the BBQ sauce is saucy, brisket is so tender, sides are endless, what more can you say. Although, the restrooms are a little sketchy this is a great establishment.
Made it just before they closed and the staff was very friendly Food was delicious the brisket was so good , bbq sauce was tasty and the sides as well definitely will be coming back ❤️
The best bbq ever. All kinds of meat. Salad bar with all the stuff I like. Coleslaw with apple-awesome. Prices very reasonable. Sauce was perfect. Dining room was clean and service fantastic.
Filled my belly with some great BBQ! Wifey recommended it and well worth it. 5 stars with a rating of delicious and certified return...
This is the best place for bbq especially brisket! love their sauce and carrot cake! only down side being they close at 3 but if you can make it it is so worth it! it is better than rudy's bbq imo better bang for your buck both quality and quantity wise. <3
Best BBQ in town in my opinion. potato salad is awesome German style and the beans are great as well. also has a great salad bar with all the fixin's. I've eaten at this place ever since it's been there
The food is awesome. The service is great, and the people there are top-notch. I broke a few highway laws just to get to Corpus Christi in time to get this BBQ.
1st timer here and it was so good i’m definitely put them on my top of list for bbq 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯💯
I ordered the poor boy not knowing it was a three meat, almost footlong sandwich. I was very surprised by it. I also didn't know how good it was going to be and I'm very glad I ordered it! I will definitely visit again!
Ok so I had a brisket and sausage sandwich it was sooo good! Watching the guy cut the meat was awesome too very cool knife skills. Their beef ribs look great, definitely worth a stop.
Wait staff was very friendly very professional good old-fashioned barbecue everybody was very nice
Just what we expected! Full parking lot, great food. Was very busy on Friday around noon, but still found a table. The staff was nice which doesn't always happen in busy BBQ places! Highly recommend this place.
Huge portion for the price (I got the single meat plate and it ended up being enough for me to eat twice). Brisket is off the carts. Didn’t have to salt any of my food. Sauce is killer. Super friendly service. Hands down best in Corpus.
Great food. Great staff. Proportion of food was very good. Especially considering the price you had to pay. But if you want good then you have to pay for what you want. You get what you pay for. All food products are very delicious. Cooked very well and delicious. This restaurant is not stingy with their side dishes and condiments. Staff is VERY helpful, loving, carrying and willing to help to the best of their ability.
First things first the brisket and pork ribs were pretty dam good. They had really good homemade potato salad and a really good salad bar. The service was is what you amazing. Was welcomed in and made feel right at home. Good old Texas hospitality.
Came from Germany and ate here. From the outside it looks like a restaurant you don’t wanna eat at. From the inside it looks really authentic. The food was really good. Delicious meat and good sides. The staff was really friendly, just kinda hard to understand for me as a non native speaker. This restaurant is as authentic to American barbecue as you can possibly get. Thanks for the great meal and the great experience.
Excellent..EXCELLENT service,food,atmosphere..extremely friendly and personable staff. Old fashioned gracious service with genuine smiles all around. The top tier pit mastery. A great place to lunch or Stop by when in town. Patron for 8 years or more and never ever dissatisfied. You will not regret stopping by
Went here for lunch. I was thinking that I might not have enough time but I was wrong. Service was great. Food was excellent. We got out in enough time to be back to work on time.
I love this place so much. Their potato salad is by far the best I've ever had. I love the little salad bar that you get for $3. The brisket sandwich is always so moist and flavorful
Hands down the best BBQ in Corpus Christi and they are always friendly. I suggest you try the junior or senior- for a fair price you will get 3 meats and the bar for sides. I love the coleslaw with apples and the potato salad. The BBQ sauce is soooooooo good! Support this restaurant because they deserve it!
We had Howard's cater our family gathering this weekend. The food and sides were delicious. The caterers were there timely, friendly and extremely helpful. Could not of done this without them.
Super friendly! No judgement at all , loved it! And the best brisket ive had in a while, besides my dads of course, so tender , juicy and the bbq sauce was great too! Loved the environment and vibes i got from here. Definitely will go back to enjoy some more
Brisket among the best in Texas (and I've tried q lot of em!) Carrot cake is absolutely divine! Atmosphere is perfect Texas style, would recommend for locals but especially if you are taking someone from out of town.
This was my first time there. I was greeted very well. Very clean place to be Lineservers very friendly nd great service. Nd has some country smiles. Food was awesome. That coleslaw was very delicious it had that little sweet in there. I like it bcuz u r able to go bk for seconds if u want to. This will be my place for bbq. Outstanding quality nd food. Keep up the great job...
The staff is just lovely and the food is soooo good! This place is always packed but the patrons eat and move on pretty quickly for lunch so definitely a good spot. Also not to be missed is the all you can eat "side bar". Can't beat the price either. 5 stars all the way!!
As we have traveled Texas, we always have to sample local BBQ where ever we go. In Corpus Christi we stopped into Howard’s BBQ in our quest to find the best. We were not disappointed. It started in the parking lot of all places. The smell of BBQ in the air was our first pleasant surprise. When we walked in we were taken back to a real family style BBQ environment. We absolutely loved the atmosphere. When we saw the menu they had everything we wanted and a lot more. We have to tell you, that after experiencing tremendous BBQ with all the sides you could want, we then hit the salad bar and were even more impressed. Let’s just say they made us feel right at home and our lunch was absolutely amazing. I hope everyone can experience it for themselves.
I can't complain to much or I shouldn't complain at all really when we went it was almost closing and they served us as best they could. For what they had it was very good and filling well it was for me I had a brisket loaded baked potatoes with a sweet tea price was fair staff was very friendly and good customer service would go back again
We had Catering done by Howards BBQ for our wedding and they make the process so easy for me. Tom went over everything in detail and answered 100 questions since it was my first time doing a catering order. Shelly was really nice and explained more things to me when I went downtown to talk in person. We even messed up and at last minute we added 10 plates on them and they didn't hesitate on getting the order readjusted last minute! We went the route of self serving to save some money and when they showed up they came 30 minutes early and even showed us how to set it up/serve the food the best way possible. We loved the service from start to finish and everyone was super nice and helpful for our first time doing catering! If I ever need catering done again I will be calling them!
First time trying Howard's BBQ & I've lived here all my life! Loved it & will definitely be visiting this place more often! Food is great and love the atmosphere!
My mom and I loved loved the coleslaw and with apple just wow! We have never tried it like that and it was a lovely touch. Pork ribs were big and tender, brisket absolutely delicious and tender. I'm not too crazy about the potato salad it tasted too much of mustard and finally the peach cobbler just lovely. We will definitely order again.
It was nice to hear a welcome after telling them it was my first time there. Everyone was very pleasant explaining the choices and kind enough to inform us about the salad bar. When we were done eating we had a busser coming clear our plates and ask us how everything was, I told him it was very good and my first time there, he kindly welcomed us to come back again. That attention to customer service made it a five-star rating. Only thing I would have liked would have been the temperature on the brisket/meat to be hot. Brisket was tender and perfectly cooked. Salad bar was well stocked and very clean and try that potato salad!
The BBQ was amazing! The meat was very tender and not dry at all. We loved the atmosphere of the building! Definitely would recommend!
Howard has the best brisket. It is so tender and juicy. I was having a part and had it delivered. Everyone loved it and I froze the leftovers and then heated them in the microwave and they tasted as good as when we got them. I love Howard’s!
Their pulled pork sandwich is the best I have had in Corpus Christi! Also, it is a GREAT value because the sandwich is large, unlike other places that tend to have smaller buns and sandwiches now.
Oh my goodness! The staff here are incredibly nice and the food is amazing. One of the waitresses caught up to an older gentleman and asked if she could help him with his tray. The best part was that she called him by name. Great family type atmosphere. Anyway, I had the pork ribs which I recommend. Just about everything comes with all you can eat sides and salad.
This was some of the best BBQ ever ever had. It's absolutely world class. We're visiting San Antonio from KC, and I've had BBQ from all the KC greats. The brisket was so tender and delicious. The ribs were perfect and meaty. The salad bar was super clean and really fresh. You absolutely must try this spot!
Howard's BBQ is your go-to BBQ place, I promise! For only $8.95, you get 3 meats on a flour tortilla along with the full salad bar, which has hot vegetables! You'll not go away hungry! As a bonus to your visit, you'll be greeted by a handcrafted cross made from driftwood from Padre Island National Seashore beaches, inscribed with John 3:16, and "Jesus Is Lord!"
I had the beef ribs, they were really good, and the price was very reasonable. I'll be returning with my work crew soon.
Great tasting BBQ. 3 of us for lunch joined a friendly lunch crowd. We had the very delicious and moist brisket, chicken and pork ribs. Each of us had a bit different sides but all were good. Choice of “serve yourself” salad greens, green beans, pinto beans, Cole slaw, potato salad and all the Fixings; onion, pickles and jalapeño peppers and sliced bread. Soft drinks were Coke fountain drinks and an iced tea station, both sweet and unsweetened tea. This place has been around for years. Have always heard about it and today was my first visit. Interior is a bit dated and men’s restroom was a bit dark but ok. Hand soap and sink worked. Aside from the aesthetics, food was Good stuff!! Sorry I didn’t get any pics. Will definitely return.
Went today for the first time. Got the one meat plate. The chicken breast was large and tender. The sides are self serve and were all great! Can’t wait to go back and try something new! Will be recommending to all my coworkers! Staff and atmosphere were amazing as well!
Very friendly staff and good food! First time I’ve been here and look forward to going again!
Great food and great customer service! Highly recommend.
Oh my gosh! Brisket & sausage were outstanding, the bbq sauce was super good, the butter beans were the BEST I’ve ever had and the salad bar was an added bonus! Thank you for providing yummy food, fair prices and great employees who were very friendly. Highly recommend! PS. Hi to Irene :)
If you are in the Corpus Christi,Tx area this is a awesome BBQ place staff is friendly and they don't weigh the meat old school. they also have a salad/veggie bar that comes with your meat plates. so example you order a one/two or three meat plate and you have endless picks on veggie sides and salad. they even have corn bread muffins, you can even just do the veggie sides/salad bar if you don't do the beef. Lots of seating tables or booth, only thing its a place that's open from 11am to 3 pm think closed weekend's. downtown area/near water front area. So enjoy!!!
Food amazing! Service and workers are super friendly and awesome. Atmosphere takes you back to the old days. The only BBQ spot that still has a really good huge salad bar. Highly recommended!!!
This is my first time eating at Howard's Barbecue. I went to the drive-thru. I'll tell you It is the best barbecue I've eaten in a very, very long time. I got a sliced brisket with sausage on a bun. It was delicious. They are very, very generous with their meat. Sometimes you go to places and you want to know where the meat is. Also, it was not greasy. Their barbecue sauce is perfect. I loved it, I ate some of their potato salad and I am very picky about potato salad and it was great. Most barbecue places their Potato salad has so much mustard in it that it just overwhelms the potato flavor. Not this place, it was so good. There was nothing that I did not enjoy. The lady at the drive-thru was so nice and friendly. I enjoyed my conversation with her while I waited which wasn't very long at all. I would give this place a ten-star rating if they had them, excellent food!!! I will definitely come back with my husband and friends and I will send anybody and everyone to eat there. Thank you for having such exceptional food. At very reasonable prices I wish I had a photo of it but I ate it too quickly. Jennie Sue
No complaints at all, one of the best barbecue places here in Corpus Christi. They are and were extremely generous with the meat portions. My girl had the 3 meat poboy with brisket, sausage and chopped beef. That sandwich was HUGE! I had the 3 meat plate with 2 sides I had the moist brisket which was mouthwatering, I had the jalapeno sausage, extremely tasty and I had the pork ribs. Everyone in Corpus Christi, there's a reason people keep coming back, if you're new to Corpus Christi or if you're here on vacation, Howard's Barbecue is definitely a must! Food 5⭐ Service 5⭐ Portions 5⭐ Taste 5⭐ Cornbread 5⭐ Recommend to friends and family 5⭐
Could just as easily be called WOWard’s BBQ! Near downtown CC, rustic older building. Friendliest staff! Manager was there enjoying her lunch as well. Lowest BBQ prices encountered in Texas, but doesn’t compromise the quality (3-meat with 3 sides for 16.95!!)! Beef short ribs are a must; brisket light but tasty bark, jalapeño sausage with nice kick. And the sides are self-serve with something for everyone from salads to three kinds of beans. Potato salad is excellent, with mustard kick. Manager said they keep prices low to keep people coming in and folks employed…at these prices for this quality you can’t afford NOT to eat at Howard’s!
One of my favorite places to eat in Corpus!! Their beef ribs are the best around. Do not always have these as they sell out, they are that good! That was the case today so I ordered a 3 meat plate, brisket, sausage and chicken. While the beef ribs are my favorite, my plate today was also very good. The sides are on a big salad bar so you do not choose a few, you can have everything if you want. I like this. Their coleslaw has apples in it and it’s one of my favorite sides here. I would highly recommend!
We have pretty high expectations when it comes to BBQ, and Howard’s met them!! The meats were all delicious and cooked perfectly. The brisket was so tender, juicy and flavorful it melted in my mouth! The jalapeno sausage had great flavor and was also cooked perfectly. The ribs were meaty and well cooked. They weren’t sloppy fall of the bone, but stayed together for a good bite. We also tried the chicken, which was flavorful, especially with the house bbq sauce which had a distinct honey flavor. I loved it!! I also loved the bar full of sides so you can choose your own. There was a fresh salad bar, along with 3 kinds of beans to pick from. Don’t miss out on the Cole slaw, probably the best cole slaw side I’ve had at a bbq place! There are apples in it, it’s so good! The potato salad was also tasty. Grab a slice of carrot cake for dessert, you’ll thank me later.
Great looking BBQ Joint. Been in business forever. Solid meats all around nothing superior but worth a stop. The sides are good as well. Been here many times they are always consistent. The people are frendly and professional. When in corpus stop by.
I don't care for bbq but I stopped looking for a clean bathroom and decided it smells so good in there I'd go ahead and have lunch. For a little less that $13 I had a choice of one meat and unlimited sides and salad bar plus a small drink. Of course for more money you can get multiple choices of meat. I chose the pork ribs. They were good but again, I don't love bbq. They hand you your tray of meat and your small Styrofoam cup and the sides and salad bar are self serve. The potato salad was classic and yummy. The star of the show for me was the coleslaw. Sweet, crunchy, it had dices apples, tasted like bananas. Strange but I loved it. The staff is very friendly. Everyone seemed like family, or like they'd at least worked with each other for a while. I grabbed a refill of my drink before I left, decided to switch to sweet tea from soda, didn't notice the unsweetened which I prefer. If you like sweet tea you'll love this. For me it was too sweet but it's brewed fresh so melting ice should even that out. Overall really great but would be better if I was big on bbq.
Great food, great selection. I recommend getting the side salad. Everything you would expect from a BBQ place. One small tiny issue during the visit, my plate came with sides but I wasn't asked what sides I wanted. Macaroni was behind the counter and never got a chance to try it.
The pork ribs were done just right with some really good sauce. My husband had the brisket. He said it was better than mine....oh, well....we can't all be perfect! LOL. The staff was really nice from the cashier to the busser.
Unfortunately no pictures, fair sized group of people customer lunch. Brisket- Asked for burnt ends, moist...got it. It's nice when a place actually understand BBQ speak. Nice bark, good smoke ring. Tender, not dry, sauce not needed. Would have liked a bit more S&P flavor to have greeted me but, not a deal killer. Sides- I like this place's philosophy. The sides are out on the salad bar that is included. I chose hot butterbeans (aka white lima beans) with nice chucks of ham in it. I was so happy with just seeing that side I got a little extra and left it with that. Of course, onions, pickles, jalapeños were there and scooped up too. Instead on my normal bread on the side, couldn't resist the cornbread muffins. It just goes with butterbeans...full stop. They were great, good flavor, moist, perfect. I did try a little sauce on the side. Slightly sweet, nice and twangy. The brisket didn't really need it but, it would certainly be of use on the sausage that I'll be getting next time I stop in. Why not 5 stars? Com’on, I’m a Texan! Your brisket had got to be as good as mine or better! 🤣😁
If half stars were possible I would've given this place 3.5 stars. The ham & turkey both tasted very good! The brisket was alright, wished it was a little more smoked. There's a side/salad bar with unlimited sides including, corn, rice, cornbread, and salad as well as some onions and pickles to go on the sandwich. There is also beans, but they weren't very good, especially since they weren't baked beans, they were only pinto beans with ham in it. Also wish they set out bbq sauce on the tables. Would recommend stopping here for a quick bbq bite.
Good BBQ and plenty of choices. Always friendly and helpful. The sides buffet has BBQ beans, green beans, salad, potato salad, corn bread muffins, rice pilaf, corn on the cob and excellent coleslaw. My favorite is the rarely found butter beans. A good place for Texas BBQ.
Howard’s is one of the best bbq joints in town. And every employee I’ve ever spoken to or ordered from is super polite & helpful.
A long time running BBQ restaurant. Many types of special BBQ plates, along with all the fixings sides and salad bar. Atmosphere of a country Cafe with classic photos of Corpus Christi's history. Whether you want Brisket, chicken or sausage or a mixture of all. Howard's BBQ will get you full.
Great food, awesome prices. The only thing that would have made this place better is a bit of smoke and some choices of sauce. I like a bit more heat than the house sauce. But it was still the best BBQ we have found in Texas so far.
Hi!, BBQ Woody here. Well, i loved the atmosphere..but very warm on a 65° day. I had the pulled pork and pork ribs. The ribs and the pork had great flavor. Unfortunately, i had to use a knife to get some of the meat from the bones. The different beans choice was different for me..but...thankyou for being the 1st true Tx bbq place ive been to in the Coastal bend. I might suggest that u update your google review options forbyour customers so we can choose what we ate. BBQ Woody
The sausage was good, the brisket was cooked well, nice smoke but a little bland for my taste, I do not use BBQ sauce which this definitely needed. It was not dry, just could have used more flavor in my opinion.
Service and cleanliness is top notch. Brisket is a 2 at the most. Sausage a 3. Sides (unlimited) were the best things on my plate. I’ll probably still give them another shot.
Usually pretty decent but the meat was not very warm today. Service was friendly as always though. Howard's is a decent place. The food won't blow you away but it's generally pretty decent and the service is always good.
I loved the decor on the inside. Cut out of John Wayne, snarky BBQ signs etc.. The food is awesome and everyone is very friendly. The people eating here are from all walks of life. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the area above where the meat was being cut had extreme amounts of dust layered on it. I couldn't help but wonder if it ever fell in people's food.
3.5 stars here. 4 stars for the meats, 2 for the sides. Somewhat hidden joint in an industrial area off the beaten path but the large number of pickups in the lot told me that it wasn’t a place that is unknown. Unable to see pits here but learned they burn mesquite rather than the more common post oak. Surprising lack of smoke aroma on arrival. Counter service spot where the meats are kept warm in a series of pans and you choose from an extensive menu of choices-brisket, ribs, quarter chicken, ham, sausage, turkey breast. Available as plates, sandwiches, and unique “tacos”. And some quite large baked potatoes went by as we made our decisions. Everything is ready by the time you reach the end of the counter and pay. Sauce provided from behind the counter was quite sweet. All sides-both cold and hot-are self-serve from a long salad bar set up in the dining area. Our meal choice was a 3-meat platter, with Pork loin, sausage, and turkey. Here was our feelings on our meal this visit. Sausage: earns an A for the perfect amount of peppery bite Turkey: A+ for smokey flavor, moist with no sauce needed Pork Loin: overly dry, decent smoke ring. Would have been better fresher. Potato salad: tasted quite strongly of pickles Corn and Green Beans: overcooked and soggy Carrot Cake: a big winner. homemade tasting more akin to a spice cake with delicious icing The pricing here is very reasonable for the quality and I would definitely return on another visit to the area. Just need to be careful in your choosing of the freshest meats and sides.
I got the two meat plate with Brisket and a chicken quarter. The Brisket was so dry it crumbled. The chicken quarter had little to no flavor. They have a side bar that has all kind of sides and salad. I got the potato salad, and it was lacking flavor. I don't know about the other sides. It was really hot in the restaurant which made it uncomfortable.
BBQ is ok but it is an old establishment that has been there for years and when you walk in the smell of old smoke is a little overwhelming. Very pricey.
I heard great things about this place but unfortunately not to thrilled. Food was okay….service was nice and informative! I spent $43 on the all you can eat and was quickly disappointed. It could’ve been the time of day I came to the restaurant which was 2pm, but the ribs and brisket tasted very dry. I’m a HUGE bbq lover and always see people stopping by here so I was so sad when I didn’t like it. The carrot cake is pretty good tho!
Well, my experience today was not worth my trip here. It has been a long time since I have been here , but boy has it changed and not for the better. I ordered a Jr. tortilla wrap with salad bar and sides. The good news: The wraps are HUGE with a ton of meat on them. The bad news: Everything was stone cold , the tortilla was completely cold , the meat was all cold , and that was not all that was cold . I love butter beans ,apparently, so does everyone else it was empty except for the bean juice , I said something, so a new pan was brought out and added to the existing pan. I did eat a few bites of all of it, then decided that no matter how good , I should be served hot food. I went to Henry and told him my beans were cold , as was my wrap, the meat, and the tortilla , I asked if they had a microwave. The worker that brought the beans out said , "No, they are hot." Henry got some in a bowl, looked at me, and said no, they are hot. Ok , I got a 2nd bowl, took to my table , and lukewarm at best. He never came to do anything about the wrap. I finally got a to go box ( I have a microwave at home). I did go speak to Henry and told him I was a local guide and would be writing this all down. He did not seem to be concerned. In fact, he did come to my table to see where my review would be so he could read it. The food is still good , just cold , and if I wanted cold or lukewarm food , I would come back , but now.... I'm not sure . I am sure they don't care about my opinion or my business. By the way , a man at the table next to me said his beans were cold as well.
MEH. The brisket was moist but completely lacking in smoke or any other flavor. Got a brisket sandwich to go, and the woman taking my money lied after boxing my order by saying that onions and pickles were added. Out of the way and not worth the effort.
Was expecting a great meal after reading reviews but I can only give Howard's 2 stars. Pork ribs were extremely fatty, brisket was okay nothing special. Salad bar was fine but hot foods were cold.
The service was great, they were super friendly! However, the food lacked flavor, everything was so bland. My son got the beef ribs and they were so tough and dry. The brisket was okay with BBQ sauce on it. I was so hyped for their beans on the salad bar but they lacked any kind of flavor. Was very disappointed.
Was not good for me. First, the brisket was extremely tender and delicious. Not fatty and greasy. The sides you serve yourself. Ribs were very tough, not tender at all. The kind where the meat sticks in your teeth. The sausage reminded me of the sausage you get from Walmart, very black peppery and greasy. Potato salad, all I could taste was the mustard. Beans were not cooked all the way and were still little crunchy. Bbq sauce just was not good. The kind that you burp a shake your head, tasted like it was heavy on liquid smoke flavor. Overall I did not care for Howards Bbq.
One of the worst Po Boys I’ve ever had. This is not the first time I’ve been given brisket that should have been thrown away or used in their chopped beef. It was chewy and stretchable. My tip is if you see that the brisket is near the end, turn around and walk away. The owner has no problem passing on the “business end” of a brisket to you.
Without a doubt, this was the worst barbecue I’ve ever had in my life!
My mom and I had lunch there last week, right at Noon. When asked what I'd like I said "marbled brisket please" and the response I got was out of pure laziness. "Sorry sir, I don't have any sliced right now" Why charge BBQ prices or ask what we'd like if you're going to be lazy and not cut another brisket? It takes 30 seconds to pull a brisket and cut your lean and marbled parts. Do BETTER. For real.
Two stars for service bc the guy serving the brisket was a nice guy but the lady who charged me my food, overcharged, I looked at the prices before and she charged me sides for a brisket sandwich. She didn’t offer Mac and cheese, she wasn’t pleasant at all to me. She did tell me I could the sides from the side bar area only after I asked if it came with sides. Would never go back just based on that experience. The food was bland, flavorless and dry. The food was not made with love I can tell you that. Just my opinion, not worth the money for the service I got and the food.
