Savor classic steakhouse elegance in Costa Mesa's sophisticated heart
Eatery offers a dark & romantic setting for classic chophouse fare plus Sinatra-themed nights.
La Cave offers a romantic, old-school steakhouse experience with live music and a dark, intimate atmosphere. The filet mignon and seafood are frequently praised, though some find the prices high and steak quality inconsistent. Edgar and Cesar are mentioned as providing excellent service.
Tip: Be prepared for a pricier experience as the menu doesn't list prices. Request less salt on your steak if you are sensitive to it.

Was here last night with a friend and sat at the bar. The bar tenders name was Cesar and he really made me feel welcome. Explained the menu and made some recommendations. I ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail with a twice baked potato with a dinner salad and a slice of cheesecake. The filet may have been the best filet ive ever had in my life. It literally melted in mouth. The lobster tail was a good size and very tasty. Overall I would absolutely recommend coming here to anyone that loves a cool environment, excellent service and top quality food. The pilsner beer Cesar recommend for me was also very delicious.
First time at this hidden gem! It’s like a speakeasy style restaurant, located in a strip mall. We were surprised at the cool entrance. Service is excellent. Food is fantastic. The whole red light, cave style, bar experience was FUN. Great music/vibe and even had a tv to watch a game in the background. Josh was a pleasure to hang with and Eduardo was an incredible waiter. A MUST try when in OC!
If ever you find yourself in the Los Angeles area, adding this restaurant to your agenda will be worth it! Let’s start with the good! Ambiance is perfect for a romantic date night. Low lighting, great live music, snag the corner booth by the stage for a perfect table to snuggle up to your love while you watch the band. The staff was friendly, attentive, and This cozy restaurant features a solo chef… yep just one for the whole restaurant, who is on display the moment you step off the elevator. It’s mesmerizing to watch him work his magic! The shrimp scampi is hands down the absolute best I’ve ever put in my mouth. Cooked to perfection and seasoned expertly, this dish will melt in your mouth. We also had the halibut and New York strip and their famous twice baked potato, clam chowder and a Cesar salad ( which actually has Blue. Cheese on it). Again everything, seasoned and cooked perfectly. Ok, now the bad, and this is a stretch. We had a reservation at 7:30 but they were so packed that we didn’t get sat until 7:45… I told you it was a stretch lol. Same goes for the ugly section. The only ugly part was that I was too full to try a dessert. This is a phenomenal can’t miss experience!
The best most romantic atmosphere at L Cave Steak House! Nice music, nice servants, bartender is great. Food is delicious and drinks are amazing! Dimmed red lights. Perfect for a date dinner. It’s pretty expensive, but its worth it! Menu doesn’t have prices on it. Be ready it will not be cheap, but if you want to impress your other half, thats where you should come and thats what you should spend. Quality is pricy! Enjoy!
Step into the Time Machine, destination 1962. Dark atmosphere, a single table candle, smoke filled room, and Nat King Cole crooning as you enjoy your New York cut steak. No burgers here. Excellent sea food is also available. I've read some of the other reviews and let me add a little more. La Cave is not a restaurant where there are over 100 items on the menu. It is a restaurant where there are a few items prepared with excellence. No burgers, no chicken, no children's menu. Select cuts of beef and fish are what's waiting for you, and you select what you eat, not pictures in a menu. Be patient, if you were expecting fast food you came to the wrong place. The quality food you selected will not be rushed. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience, I invite you to enjoy it as well, by not rushing and not expecting a McDonald's menu here.
Pretty much perfect in every category. The food and service were both excellent. Appetizers like the shrimp cocktail and garlic bread, and sauteed mushrooms were all very good. The crab legs and teriyaki chicken were both very good, the salad and rice pilaf were also both very good vegetarian dishes. The atmosphere was very good, really matched the old-school aesthetic with crooner music but was kinda weird when they had a live musician come in, didn't do it for me. The service was excellent, drinks were frequently filled, among other things.
Laura, the manager, was kind enough to check on us while we were eating. We raved about Edgar. He's a fabulous waiter, knowledgeable, hard working, and very sweet. Shrimp cocktail is great, tangy. The caesar is pretty good. Not creamy, but like a vinegarette with anchovy. Filet was fantastic. The broccoli..i don't recommend. Get the potato. Drinks are STRONG. Great place for drinks. Wear a coat, it can get chilly.

My fiancé and I both ordered the filet mignon and it was delicious! The drinks were really good and the double baked potato was amazing. The service was great and Edgar did an incredible job making sure we had everything we needed. The entire staff was very friendly. We were celebrating our anniversary and they surprised us with a delicious slice of chocolate cake. We will definitely be coming back to this place for special occasions. They also had live music playing and the atmosphere was something out of a goodfellas movie. The entire restaurant is underground btw. Again I definitely recommend this place. We will definitely be coming back!

An excellent steak, I got the Porterhouse steak so I could take home leftovers. It was huge, I took home more than I ate. My only complaint, SALT! Wow that's more salt than anyone should consume in probably 3 or 4 days. But it was a great steak. Next time I'll ask for less salt. Oh yes a next time. They could use some more/better sides options. Salad, was awesome and the Chocolate cake or rather Fudge cake is Decadent. The Jazz night was great! Cool easy listening jazz. Great experience, I highly recommend. Miss the old Liquor Store entrance.
We went here last night for the first time and I was absolutely delighted to find out that there was live music! There was a man playing the guitar and singing… my favorite! We started out with the Clam Chowder and it was pretty good, no complaints. Our drinks were ok. I had the Cave margarita and Matt had the Mule. We were served complimentary cheesy bread that was pretty good but not memorable. The main dish was delicious! I had the king Crab and Matt got the Ribeye. Both were so good! I can’t wait for the left overs for lunch! They brought out an extra leg because they thought I didn’t have enough! I couldn’t finish it all, I’ll be making a king crab roll tomorrow for lunch 🤤, Matt’s ribeye will be in a breakfast burrito, living the high life! We ended with the cheesecake, with chocolate… it was good, but didn’t take like it was freshly made, tasted like it was frozen. My only complaint is that there was a table of 4 sitting between us and the musician… they were SOOO loud! They took away from the wonderful music! If you’re going to be talking obnoxiously loud with your friends, do everyone a favor and go to the side of the restaurant that’s meant for conversation.., don’t go to the side where someone is singing and trying to entertain people only to have your loud mouth drown out the singing.
Definitely old-school steak joint. Low lighting, lots of pepper and a colorful crowd. I swear, if they put cameras and hot mic’s at every table it would be a hot show. Food was great too.
Great atmosphere, gives you that old school steakhouse vibe. Also some live music. The filet wasn't bad. The NY streak strip wasn't so great though. The steak strip bites were good. Be forewarned, the prices aren't listed on the menu. The Shrimp cocktail, which was 4 large pieces were above par. But I don't think I'd come back here for the food. Ambiance and service yes.
Good food and good service the menu selection could be better. The food was good the steaks could be better for the price. It is a small place.

This place has a dated but pleasant atmosphere. The food is very good and works well for special occasions. The only thing I find unusual is the “priceless” menu—you never really know what an item will cost from one visit to the next. That said, the prices have always stayed within market. Update: Returned on Saturday with a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Normally I wouldn’t mind, but it felt excessive given we had reserved ahead of time. Service wasn’t at its usual level, and the food quality slipped. I ordered medium but received a medium-well to well-done steak. Between the long wait, the weaker service, and the overcooked steak, I can’t give this place 5 stars.
Our waitress was friendly, funny and witty. Our group thoroughly enjoyed her. The food was delicious. Portions are big! Atmosphere was a little dark. Overall, we had a great night and would recommend.

Great customer service. Cute restaurant. The lobster bisque is delicious! Unfortunately, the food was just okay. $87.95 for the boneless ribeye. Filet medallions for $75.95. Ice tea $5. Blue Hawaiian $14
This place has a really cool atmosphere and live music was great. As mentioned in other reviews, it's fairly pricey but the crab legs were delicious. I really couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars but ultimately decided on 3 because a steakhouse, especially one boasting to the be the best in OC, needs to know what a filet is. I ordered the filet and they served me what looked like the ribeye. I asked if it was the filet waitress verified that it was. The gentleman next to me got the same thing and they told him it was the filet also. You can see from my photo, as well as comparing it to others on reviews that it's not a filet. It was fine tasting but was a little embarrassing that they either really didn't know or ran out of stock and were lying about it. Drinks at the bar to enjoy the atmosphere and music are the only thing I would come back for.

Sevice is great. Restaurant is cool. Nice band old school vibe. 300 bucks for a couple steaks and two drinks give me a break. They really gotta up their game.
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to chime in here. The food was ok, but not amazing. Took the family for the experience. The staff was very nice, but the food was average and indeed over-priced as many have noted here. I expected a large bill when there were zero prices on the menu, but I chose not to bring it up as I hate to appear tacky. My bad, especially when the bill came and we found out that our 8-piece shrimp cocktail was $57. Crazy!!! We had a good laugh with that moment. Our family likes to have fun and go to dine at great places, but value matters.
Made a reservation on a Friday night, party of 2. Still waited for a bit for a table. Ended up sitting in front of the music act. Between the music and everyone speaking over the music, the place was loud. Service was ok. Both the steaks ordered were over cooked but still very tasty. Old Fashion's were not made correctly but we're drinkable. This place gives old school steakhouse vibes without the quirkyness. Overall would come back but if I'm in the mood for steak and am willing to pay $$$ I'd look for a different option before I come here.
