Opinions de Oji Sushi & Bar Costa Mesa
We decided to give AYCE Sushi at Oji a try since we live so close to the triangle. Service with Rosie and Jani was very friendly and helpful! They were very attentive being the only ones on the floor. We were immediately greeted and sat down by Jani. There are three rounds to order ayce. The portions were fairly large compared to other restaurants we've visited so we had no idea and ordered a lot. The salads were very big so make sure you ask the waitress prior to ordering. The dishes were tasteful and all the sashimi were fresh. The presentation was immaculate. The dishes came out in a timely manner. Huge plus!!! Highly recommend! Parking in the garage may be difficult. We suggest parking across the street near the curb. It'll be a quicker and easier walk after a full meal here. Note: There is a charge of $7 per dish (sushi) if you do not finish it.
Great sushi and rolls. They gave all you can eat options as well.
Fantastic place! Hit the late happy hour for a great deal on beer and rolls. If you're lucky the Chef will hook up some extra pieces!
Oji is our favorite local sushi spot. Their service is on point and always fun. We love their food too. The Costa Mesa roll is amazing. Next time you’re craving sushi you have to give this place a try.
Great sushi all around. We arrive a little after 8:00 & Reverse Happy Hour starts at 8:30. Well worth the wait as lots of selections on the Happy Hour menu. The place inside is really big & the decor is amazing. We will be back for sure. Also, the appetizers, drinks, & all food arrived very quickly as that’s always appreciated.
Pretty good for the price, not premium sushi but great rolls, and sides. They have a great happy hour
Very laid back , inconsistent on the rice ratio. But fish is fresh. Great drink deals.
Oji Sushi in Costa Mesa is a fantastic spot with plenty of space to dine comfortably. The Premium Nigiri was buttery and incredibly fresh, and the A La Carte Eel Bowl was perfectly seasoned. The staff was warm and welcoming, making the experience even better. Great place for sushi lovers looking for high-quality, flavorful dishes.
I came here for the AYCE lunch special today with my family - overall we all enjoyed the food and had a wonderful experience. Some AYCE sushi places tend to be lower quality and put in way too much rice. However, the fish tasted very fresh and had a very fair fish-to-rice ratio. The appetizers were also surprisingly good! For $30 for Friday lunch it was such a good deal. Presentation and service were also lovely :)
Oji Sushi in Costa Mesa is a top pick for all-you-can-eat sushi! The selection is fresh and tasty, offering everything from rolls to sashimi. What sets it apart is their all-you-can-drink beer and sake — a great bonus with your meal. The service is friendly, and the atmosphere is casual, making it perfect for any outing. If you're craving sushi with a side of drinks, Oji is the place to be!
One of the few all you can Acye sushi places that you’ll enjoy every dish you order. The menu features a variety of fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced from local markets and imported delicacies. Signature rolls blend unique flavors, while classic nigiri showcases the freshness of the fish. Complement your meal with a selection of sake or craft cocktails, each thoughtfully paired to enhance the dining experience. Try it out you’ll love it.
I try “All you can eat Sushi” one of the best Sushi. The portions are moderate on the good way. Even if you decide to don’t do “all you can eat” the quality is the same (really good). They have a lot of options to choose, and if yo love Sushi, this is a great deal to eat all you wanted. I did 3 different sushi, 2 different rolls, 2 carpaccio’s, 3 appetizers, and one beer. I enjoyed every bite. definitely recommend. The environment is modern, and fresh. The service is really good also. Thank you, for the service and the experience. Next time I will skip: Takoyaki: was small octopus amount and Tuna crispy rice: rice felt chewy
Absolutely delicious, their special for the lunch makes it a pretty affordable place too. The appetizers where the bomb and the main rolls were presented beautifully.
I really enjoyed the food and ambiance here. Our server Patrick was amazing very attentive and so sweet. We probably tried one of each roll and they all were great. The Salmon Carpaccio was amazing. Fresh ingredients. Will be back!
Recomended! Missed eating all you can eat. So worth it, and at a reasonable price. Well prepared and well seasoned rolls. Great presentation on each plate. First time here, staff was friendly and helpful from start to finish. Will be coming back....
Food was super delicious!!! I wasn’t able to finish everything and i will be back soon. Great experience!
I don't take this lightly when I say this AYCE sushi spot is a hidden gem. Our server recommended the Sashimi roll which is a riceless roll stuffed full of different fish, you know, all you could ever want from AYCE sushi, and we started off STRONG with their other premium rolls, like the Baked Alaskan and Spanish roll topped with fried jalapenos. And did you know they have soju cocktails here?! We tried the Skrewkiss cocktail that comes with a whole popsicle, ugh so delish. Quick little intermission of their limited Salmon carpaccio. Wow, the sushi here was incredibly fresh and melts in your mouth like butter. Okay, back to the sushi, I'm a sucker for unagi and tamago (egg) so I had to get some pieces just for myself. One of the best AYCE sushi spots I've been to and I will be back! Thanks for reading! ^-^
It’s a great place AYCE. They make everything as you order, it is the difference between this place and some other AYCE as they pre-made rolls. Lunch was $29.99 (Sep 2022) and if your party is greater than 6, automatically 18% tip is added. In total, the food quality is very close to a good sushi place but the price becomes more reasonable.
Bomb sushi rolls! Top 3 favorite sushi joints. Spanish Roll is a go-to. OJi Roll is a must. Also order a side of real wasabi. It's very fresh and brings the sushi to another level.
Hands down the best chirashi bowl I've had post lock down. And I loved the cucumber salad app. Not a fan of the crunchy tempura roll (bland imo) but their bento was huge and hubby liked it. I also had a roasted green tea (so nice when it's not in a bag) that had a surprise thin lemon slice at the bottom. We sat in the back in a booth, and they definitely keep the place cool so bring a jacket. Will definitely be back to try some of their happy hour!

For all you can eat sushi, the food is great. I have been to a few all you can eat places in Orange County and their sushi rice has been the best I have had. The service is okay. I think they just have too many people on staff when I go in. I am sure their busy times are popping. They have a very bright, clubby vibe. Perfect for influencer videos. I just want good sushi. They provide that. The rest is extra. I can't wait to go back.
Oji Sushi AYCE is definitely worth it if you’re craving good-quality all-you-can-eat sushi. Everything we tried was very yummy, and the fish tasted fresh, which honestly makes all the difference. The rolls and nigiri came out consistently good, and nothing felt rushed or low quality like some AYCE spots. I highly recommend going for the premium option — the variety is better and the quality really shows. For the price, it’s such a solid deal, especially if you want to try a little bit of everything. Overall, a great spot for fresh sushi and a satisfying AYCE experience. Would definitely come back.

This place exceeded my expectations! The sushi was incredibly fresh, with perfectly seasoned rice and well-balanced flavors. Every bite tasted high-quality, especially the salmon and tuna, which melted in my mouth. We also tried a few specialty rolls, and they were creative without being overloaded with sauces. The service was just as impressive—our server was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. Our drinks were always refilled without asking, and the food came out quickly but didn’t feel rushed. The ambiance was cozy yet modern, making it a great spot for both a casual night out and a special occasion. I’ll definitely be back!
Got a delivery with Door dash. Food was great but the packaging was lovely! Nice touch!
This newer sushi restaurant is in a nice business plaza. The vibe is pretty chill with plenty of seats. The service is quite slow but the food is great. The fish is fresh and they have all popular sushi types. It's an all you can eat and you can order up to 3 rounds. They do not have free desert/ice cream like other places but the manager was cool to provide one free for one of our friends who had a close enough bday. There are plenty of parking spots in the parking structure and it's a handicap friendly facility.
Sushi quality is pretty good for ayce at this price range. Service has room for improvement. I would eat here again if I was in the neighborhood

It is quite tricky if you choose the buffet because you could only order 3 round for most of the food, for sashimi you could order two round with a limit number of order for the total sushi, and there are some sushi you have to pay extra yo order. And most importantly, you will have to pay gor unfinished food. Quite a lot of math when ordering the food, harder than being an accountant. And the lady tried to talked to my kid for the rule because she thinks I could not speak English even I gragduated from Ivy league university lol
I’ve always been a fan of this sushi place and often ordered my favorite cooked white fish sushi, However, on my recent visit, I was disappointed by the dry texture and poor quality of the fish. It wasn’t up to the standard I’ve come to expect. The server was very good but had limited knowledge about their bar, I wanted to order cognac but he said they didn’t have any, when I was leaving the restaurant I saw a bottle of cognac in the bar so i was disappointed, they also were out of hot saki which was shocking for a good place like this. The baked mussels did not taste fresh at all and the outside of the shell was poorly cleaned, I’m gonna give this place another chance soon even though its a 30 minutes drive for me but I’m expecting more ! Thanks
Jannie nailed it!. That's all I can say. No one took our order for at least 35 minutes. We didn't get our food for at least 50 minutes of sitting there. There was 8 of us... And one of my family members didn't get her food until all of us were done. They need more Staff. Or people to make the sushi. Or people to make it faster?. Not sure what the issue was. seemed like a slow night. And actually looked like they had enough staff. But like I said Jannie nailed it. She was the head lead I think she said ?very attentive. And absolutely tried her best to make us have the best experience. But it was almost impossible. This poor girl just works at an establishment that doesn't have it together. She's too good to be there. Her customer service skills are top notch. Unfortunately we were just not happy with the amount of time we had to wait to eat.. if it wasn't for Jannie .. I would give this place 0 stars. .but the food.. was really really good when it finally came out!
Combo box was decent. Steak was over cooked and the tempura potato was pretty thick. Also had a hair in it. Would have been better if it had a bit less potato and came without the hair. The spicy tempura roll was a joke. $12 for basically deep fried cat food. Had to go back after they initially forgot my extra roll on the side. Even asked the front of house to double check everything was there, obviously they didn’t and just assured me it was and rushed me out of the place. Had to go back after opening everything up and checking myself. Wish I had just not ordered it now. Will not be back. Waste of $50. Place used to be good back in the day.
Fruit Fly Alert: Me and my boyfriend come to Oji Sushi all the time, it’s one of our go to spots for Sushi! Their happy hour is our absolute favorite, and the service has always been amazing. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and we’ve never had any issues… until today. This time, the issue wasn’t with the service (which was still great), but with the food environment. When we were seated, we immediately noticed a few fruit flies on the table. I work in the food industry myself, so I recognized them right away. I know how difficult they are to get rid of, and how quickly they can spread and contaminate food. Throughout our meal, the fruit flies were swarming around our table and even landing on our food. We spent most of dinner swatting them away and trying to keep an appetite—which was hard. What’s even more concerning is that, since we came in around 10pm (they close at 11), I noticed a server pouring all the leftover soy sauce into a single container, likely to reuse the next day. With fruit flies around, it’s not hard to imagine one slipping into a container unnoticed. I’m leaving this review in hopes that management sees it and addresses the issue. I’ve dealt with a fruit fly problem at my own workplace, and it took over five months to fully resolve. It was frustrating, especially having to serve food and drinks to customers knowing what was going on behind the scenes. We love this place and want to keep coming back, but this is a serious concern that I hope is taken seriously and their food standards are fully met.

I haven’t been here in a couple years. But wow the service and food were bad tonight. The server “J” was rude, tired and aggressive. She told me my meal was not cooked properly because the kitchen was too busy. We asked for cocktails and she said that was not available because she was working alone.

Krab was rancid and made us ill later on. We reported the issue and the waitress just said "It's my first day what do you want me to do about it." We did not opt for the all you can eat and thus 2 rolls and 2 drinks were an outrageous price. Sitting at the bar you are warned not to talk to the sushi chef. This place was an all around bad experience with beautiful decor. +1 atmosphere star for there being adorable wild parrots outside.
I don't recommend it! If you want to pay twice for your food, then this is the place for you! We used the all you can eat service. In the end, we paid $160 for two people and a child (they didn't even ask how old she was, they counted her as an adult. And we didn't bother to find out - it was our daughter's birthday). And the reason is that everything you didn't eat - they count at full price! But not everything is delicious! Too many greasy rolls! One set turned out to be a hand roll! None of us like that. In short, they will make you pay double the price here! We will never come back here again! And I don't recommend it to anyone!
The sushi wasn’t fresh, the service was very slow, and it felt like they didn’t care about us. I will never come back and I do not recommend this place.
When we first walked into this sushi spot in Costa Mesa, the atmosphere instantly caught our eye. The restaurant had a fine-dining look with colorful décor, elegant lighting, and stylish tables — it definitely felt like a place with high potential. However, one odd detail immediately stood out: several of the chairs were patched up with regular office tape. It seemed like a quick fix for damaged seating, but in an otherwise polished setting, it looked strange and unprofessional. Once we were seated, we waited about 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. A staff member eventually came by and silently dropped off waters without asking for our drink preferences (lemon, no lemon, no ice, etc.). Another five minutes passed before someone asked if we were doing all-you-can-eat or à la carte. We said à la carte and that we were ready to order, but the server rushed off without taking our order. We waited again before she returned to finally take it. There was a large party dining at the same time, and while that can understandably slow the kitchen down, it’s standard practice in the restaurant industry to let bigger tables know they may experience delays, while still getting food out quickly to smaller tables. That didn’t happen here — we waited about 45 minutes for our sushi to arrive. When it did arrive, the presentation looked nice. However, my fried spicy tuna tempura roll came out before my husband’s sashimi, which felt out of order. More surprisingly, the roll had raw jalapeño slices inside — something I’ve never seen in a fried roll — and it didn’t complement the flavors at all. Still, the sushi itself tasted decent. But here’s the real test: how we felt the next day. We frequently eat sushi from various places, and our go-to spot, Sushi on Fire in Huntington Beach, has never caused us any issues. This place, however, left both my husband and me incredibly sick the next morning. We woke up with severe stomach pain and explosive diarrhea — I was in the bathroom for nearly two hours, crying from the discomfort. We had high hopes for this Costa Mesa restaurant to become our new go-to spot, but between the unorganized service, long wait times, questionable food handling, and getting sick the next day — we won’t be coming back
We went for the first time Saturday March 15th at around 2pm. We loved the food!!! But omg the server ( the guy) was not nice, he barely explained how it works and it was confusing ( for a fist timer that's a huge problem!) And he looked bothered every time we talked to him, even he rolled his eyes a couple of time 🤯🤯🤯🤯 in front of us! I hope you get better servers, because that can definitely send customers away.
Worst service ever!! It wasn't busy at all, so many staff walking around and doing nothing. Me and my fiance waited HOURS, everyone else that sat after us got served all of their food and we waiting hours and got nothing but one roll. They apparently gave our rolls to other table. We wasted our entire day waiting. Ended up paying $80 for one roll at an all you can eat. Worst staff ever. On top of that, THEY gave US attitude.
First and last time eating here. Whenever we go to AYCE sushi, we go for the salmon. We were told AFTER ordering and completing our first round that there was a shortage on salmon and were limited to how much we could order the rest of the night. This should have been disclosed PRIOR to us ordering. No compensation for something that wasn’t our fault. Fish didn’t taste all that great. Okay at best. Had we been informed prior to ordering there was a shortage, we would have went elsewhere. Nice staff, no issue with them. Although overall, not a good experience. It doesn’t make sense to pay a premium price for a meal but get shorted.
I never like to give bad reviews but I would rather eat sushi at a gas station before coming here. The rice for the spicy tuna crispy rice was so overcooked it was rubbery, the drinks were syrupy sweet enough to send you into a diabetic coma before you could even have a hangover, and honestly the sushi and sashimi was mediocre. Subprime cuts of tuna, with an almost stringy, beef-like texture. The restaurant appears to be falling apart, the air conditioner was vibrating audibly non-stop. I feel really bad for the servers: the restaurant was fairly empty on a Saturday evening but they seemed quite short staffed. I’m really sorry to give such a negative review.
