Super delicious, ordered the wagu ribeye and lamb chops. Side of house salad w/ Mac and cheese. Everything went down smooth with a couple of cocktails. A+. Expensive but not bad considering it’s a ski resort town.
Eloped way down Gothic Rd and took pictures along Kebler pass, then celebrated with dinner at Elk. I’ve eaten a lot of fine dining at some of the best locations… this was absolutely one of the best, if not the best dining experience I’ve ever had! Everything we ordered was on point and surpassed our expectations. Service was excellent, not a bother, yet perfectly attentive.
We always enjoy a meal at Elk Prime while in CB: consistently excellent steaks & the very best Old Fashion, ever! Great wine list and excellent service.
Wow... where to start.... made a reservation for 7:15pm and was seated immediately. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job the entire evening. I ordered the elk and it was amazing, to say the least. Perfectly cooked, seasoned well. The whipped potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had. No one at our table was disappointed by anything we ordered. Definitely expensive but worth every single penny! Forgot to take a before picture... but here’s an almost finished picture.
Absolutely amazing!!! This glorious establishment has the freshest most delicious steaks I have ever had... The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and just fantastic. Truly delicious.
I’ve been lucky enough to eat at some of the best steakhouses in Colorado, and this one is right up there (if not at the very top) among the likes of Shanahan’s, Morton’s, and Capital Grille. The Waygu Ribeye was out of this world and the service was top notch. They have an impressive wine list that was a bit intimidating for us as amateur wine tasters, but it will surely please the most experienced wine aficionado. The ambience is a bit bright and leaves something to be desired, but it doesn’t matter because the food and service are just that good. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, or just don’t mind splurging on a highly memorable meal, this is an experience not to be missed.
Great ambience. Started with french onion soup and the elk salad with homemade avocado ranch dressing. Both delicious and fresh. I had the CO lamb chops, melt in your mouth, not gamey. Hubby had the bone-in ribeye with au poivre sauce, cooked perfectly. Shared the smoked, au gratin potatoes, rich flavor so yummy. Service was excellent, call out to Amy. Highly recommend.
The Elk Tenderloin, Lamb Lollipops, Grilled Shrimp, Lobster Mac & Cheese dinner; the most decadent meal I've ever had! All choice ingredients immaculately prepared. Truly an exquisite meal!
THIS is where you get steak in Crested Butte...period. I've been coming to CB for 30 years, and I've yet to have a better steak/food experience. Under new ownership, it's still like before. Super friendly servers. My wife loves the lamb chops (infused with flavor!) best I've ever tasted. She's picky and loves them. ALL steaks are amazing with some local and other high grade meats...depends on your mood. I got their locally sourced filet and it is my recommendation when you don't know what you want.
Let me start by saying the people and food here are amazing! I was greeted warmly, sat promptly at their bar, and proceeded to have a very memorable meal. Not cheap, but absolutely worth every penny!
I got the beet salad, amuse bouche, and the Wagyu New York steak and it was AMAZING. Chef Cody and Jess the waitress were excellent! Definitely come when you’re in CB.
Unbelievably good. A perfect birthday dinner. I had the elk and the creme brulee with cereal milk, it was delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well.
This place was amazing! If you visit Crested Butte (which I highly recommend for skiing and hiking) this steakhouse was one of my faves as I’ve traveled accrued the country the last week. I had to order the steak and the elk because the truffle fries app was so good. Also huge thanks to Molly, Allie and the entire staff for being 5 star and creating a great experience. Can’t wait to go back!
Had my bachelorette dinner at Prime and had the absolute best time. The whole staff took amazing care of us, our server Joe was excellent and made perfect wine suggestions, and our food was excellent. We ordered 2 appetizers, 3 steaks, 4 sides, and 2 desserts for 6 women to share.
Celebrated our 9th anniversary here!Literally the best meal I've had. Starting with the smoked steak tartar, to the entrees of rack of lamb and Alakan Halibut..wedge salad..amazing!
Patio covered in flowers like someone's grandmother went rogue with a credit card at the garden center. It works beautifully. Got lucky with live music - apparently they don't normally do this. We hit the jackpot or someone forgot to tell the musician to go home. Happy hour oysters flown in from somewhere fancy I can't remember. Point is, they're not local Rocky Mountain oysters if you know what I mean. Went against the grain and ordered chicken at a place called "Elk Avenue Prime." Sometimes you gotta be contrarian. Honey chicken that's basically elevated KFC without the shame or the regret. Yeah, the elk is supposedly their thing. But when happy hour oysters and beer are calling your name in the Colorado mountains, you answer. Mountain town doing upscale right - fancy enough to feel special, chill enough to actually enjoy instead of whispering through dinner. Sometimes the best choice is the unexpected one.
Cozy, enticing flavors, great wine. If you’re sharing food they split the portions for you before serving. Great for a date night.
Great restaurant in the heart of downtown crested Butte. The decor made it feel like you were eating at a western lodge. The food was fresh and tasted great. Service was prompt and attentive.
The beet salad was AMAZING! The best salad and the best beets I’ve ever had. I’m still dreaming of it, can’t wait to go back!
Best steak I've had in a while. Beef tartare appetizer is excellent. Lobster tail was also worth ordering. Overall great meal.
Incredible all around. Kevin was phenomenal. Made the experience stellar! Very impressed.
Best bar in CB. Great food. Pricey but not saying it’s not worth it
I expected Elk Avenue Prime to be a nice steakhouse with a good ski town vibe. I didn’t expect the service and food to be as amazing as they were. The food was absolutely delicious - I sampled a bunch of apps and got the burger (American wagyu, bacon, and all the fixings). The restaurant was so accommodating when our reservation table was delayed, which really impressed me. Highly recommend!
We were very disappointed. My family has been loving Prime for years. With a new executive chef, the menu has changed dramatically. As our waiter said, "elevated". We disagree. Gone are long-time app favorites: tempura fried brussels and candied bacon. The new seasonal burrata was good. 4 of us had steaks. The centers were the correct temperatures, but the outsides charred and very little flavor. Oh, and the prices were also "elevated". The filet is now $68. The desserts have not changed; they were very good. Please, bring back the old menu!
We had a group of twelve and everything was absolutely wonderful. Dillon did a fantastic job taking care of all of us while others assisted. The food was spectacular. We will eat here every time we are in Crested Butte.
We've had the good fortune of being a wedding vendor at the Elk Avenue Prime. Working with the staff is a breeze, the space is great for an indoor reception, and the food is fantastic. If you're a couple looking for a unique and non-traditional wedding venue, definitely give Elk Avenue Prime a look!
Wow! My boyfriend and I went to celebrate his birthday. Molly and Jonathan took care of us. They were so cool and well versed on their knowledge of the wine and food menus. We asked both a number of questions and their thorough and helpful answers were spectacular. Then the food! I had the elk loin and he had the lamb. Then we added the asparagus (absolutely amazing), Mac and cheese (you’ll never make it at home again) and mashed potatoes (can I say butter?). Be sure to have the bread and butter. You’ll want to take extra butter home with you! Aside from the amazing food, we really felt the love from Molly and Jonathon. Thank you elk prime!
In crested butte for fall beauty we had a wonderful surf and turf combo for 2. The meat kabobs tender, grilled oysters good and lobster tails delish. Allison the manager engaging and waitstaff lovely. Best meal during our three week Colorado tour
Best steak in crested butte. Now they have freshly flown in seafood. I've never had a bad steak there. I prefer any filet, ribeye, NY strip medium rare. Their wedge salad is great and I tried their short rib appetizer which was amazing. French onion soup is fantastic as well. My only complaints are that the prices are astronomical. We're not poor but we're not rich either. That means I can afford to go here once or twice a year in good conscious. I think the staff could be a little more professional but it's a mountain town so I figure you get a lot of transient youth who don't stick around long enough to care.
Not cheap but great service + great food=totally worth it. We arrived early evening no rez, sat at the bar; sweetheart bartender completely took care of us for 2 hours through many courses & fabulous paired cocktails. We ended with an authentic S. African Malva pudding with cream sauce and bartender's surprise dessert cocktail that blew our minds! Minus 1 star for big tv we were forced to watch.
Only reason not giving 5 stars is my heart was broken about the $175 Tomahawk steak. I ASKED before I ordered it if it would be served on the bone and was told yes, when it came to the table it was all cut off the bone and just the bone chilling on the plate. I would never normally spend that kind of money but I saved and was so excited for the experience of a giant chunk of meat on the bone and I did not get it. SUPER SAD. Everything else was great!
Elk tenderloin was very good. The apps and sides are big enough to share between multiple people. Service was pretty good , but there isn’t really good service is most places in CO. Most people steaks were over cooked as to what was asked. Worth a stop but it’s expensive. We were there celebrating a birthday and they only brought mints to the table at the end along with the check. Probably won’t be back for special occasion.
Good, but overpriced. Our steaks were good but at $68 for an 8oz filet (a la carte) they should have been much better than just good. We come to Crested Butte several times a year and there are plenty of other restaurants that offer just as good of food for a far more reasonable price.
We had dinner here Saturday night. From the moment we sat down, Amy the waitress was quiet and not very friendly. She gave us the menu without explaining much or giving us any recommendations on anything, she took a while to come back and take our order. This place is already expensive for servers not to try to make the dinning experience better, and it seems way overpriced with this type of service. Meanwhile Brittany the waitress helping the table next to us, was amazing! I even had to ask her for some recommendations, I was overhearing the way she was helping her table and she is a really good server! She even recommended places to visit, I was so bummed we didn’t get her to help us from the start because our experience would’ve been way better! She’s the only reason I’m giving this restaurant 3 stars and not 1. The food was great, but I don’t think I’ll come back here considering how overpriced it was for such a poor experience.
We were not that impressed with this place. My husband and I shared a French Onion soup, augratin potatoes, and a filet mignon. The table next to us got better service than we did. We were pretty much ignored. Food was average.
Our group of 4 arrived for an early dinner after an active outdoor day. Happy hour menu was not offered to us until requested and immediately the level of service appeared to decline. Although the food was very good and we enjoyed our evening, we left feeling this establishment did not appreciate our business. Our group of 4 spent upwards of $350 in a sparely filled establishment. We will not return on our next trip to Crested Butte
Very poor service, told us we had to order everything at once which was fine, our wine and large appetizers came out rather quick. Main course took well over an hour to come out. Management came to apologize about the wait, asked if she could bring anything to make up for lost order, said she would bring more bread. Never seen the bread, order came out 15-20 minutes later. All tables around us arrived after us had already left. Food was excellent. However services are lacking. 20 percent tip was added to our bill. Frustrating how restaurants & staff just expect everything these days🤬Sat July 26th
My $78 butterfly filet ordered medium well would have been better if it wasn’t charred. Everything else was goid.
It’s a beautiful place but skip it! Just so expensive for what you get. I ordered a Snap Pea salad that was “substantial” according to our waiter. It was tiny. Like for a small toddler perhaps. Supposedly it had a whipped ricotta layer. Never could find it. There was a snap pea. A snow pea. A mushroom. Possibly 2 asparagus and a micro green. Yes, just the one. And all for the very reasonable price of $24. I had an Aperol spritz… or did I have a glass filled with orange ice? I will never know. There are plenty of good dining options in town. Stay away from the super overpriced ones. Trust me! Go eat and drink at the Eldo or the Rum Distillery!
Honestly really disappointed. First off two members of our party ordered the elk. It was obviously cooked from frozen leaving the inside completely raw. It was like eating sushi. Not enjoyable. The filet I ordered was charred and nothing special to be honest. For the ridiculous prices, I’d expect to be amazed by the food. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Brussels sprouts and salads.
Great ambience and atmosphere. Service great but steak was very disappointing. All steak entrees range $75-150. No side included. I and my son had the regular NY Strip at $85 before sides. We opted to pass on the $150 Strip. The steak was barely better than a chain steakhouse. Thin at $85 had absolutely no flavor whatsoever which for some reason they boast when ordering being nothing added. It was moderately tender at best and in the end we both agreed it was a disappointment and again what you would expect at a chain. With sides and a cocktail this was a $350 frown for two persons. Maybe the $150 cut is much better but we won’t be taking that chance again when in town to ski.
While the service was great, the food overall was disappointing. We ordered a tomahawk steak cooked medium with a light pink center, especially important since one person at the table was pregnant. Unfortunately, it arrived raw and cold. When we asked for it to be cooked further, it came back very quickly with the explanation that they “tried to do a mix of medium rare to medium,” which was not what we requested. The steak still lacked flavor, and we ultimately did not eat it. They initially attempted to charge us for it, but it was removed after a lengthy discussion. The broccolini was also not good. For the surf and turf, the seafood was excellent, but the steak was tough and difficult to cut. The New York strip, however, was very good. We dined with a party of nine and were advised to order five sides per dish, which was far too much. I’d recommend only 1–2 sides per dish, or about five sides total for a group this size. Drinks were good, but based on the overall experience, I would not return.
We’ve been dining at Elk Avenue Prime annually for the past 7–8 years, but this recent visit was a letdown. While the ambience and service were decent, the food didn’t live up to expectations—especially given the price. I ordered the 8oz filet for $72, and unfortunately, it was one of the toughest and most flavorless steaks I’ve had in a long time. The mac and cheese was okay, but nothing memorable. Coming from Texas, we know good beef, and this wasn’t even close. The best part of the evening was the wine and the company. For a place we’ve consistently visited over the years, this experience was disappointing
Our family had high expectations for Elk Ave Prime, but unfortunately, our visit fell short. The steak was a letdown, lacking the quality we had anticipated. The sides were also subpar, adding to our disappointment. We recently learned that the restaurant had changed ownership, which could explain the decline in quality. Having enjoyed our fair share of steaks elsewhere, we can confidently say that Elk Ave Prime's offerings were below average, not living up to the reputation it once had. Sadly, we cannot recommend this establishment in its current state.
I made a reservation in person with the hostess. When I arrived for my reservation I was told the hostess put our reservation in at a different time (45 minutes earlier, we wandered around in town waiting to eat because we were told there was no chance of eating earlier) than what I requested and watched her write down with my contact info. They didn’t apologize or offer to do anything to do to rectify the situation. I asked them to call the hostess that took my reservation and they couldn’t be bothered. The attitude and the service absolutely sucks. Spend your money at literally any other restaurant in town.
My very honest review from last year was taken down by Elk Prime, so I will write another. This place has gone downhill in the past several years. WAY overpriced and the steaks are bland and low quality, as are many other dishes that were spectacular in the past. The service is also subpar. If that’s not bad enough to deter you, they have a mandatory fee that is added to your check and if you are not paying attention, you won’t see it. It’s a kitchen staff fee. Why does EP expect the customer to, in addition to paying exorbitant prices for low quality food, now expect you to pay the salaries of THEIR employees?! Again, the fee is hidden and never mentioned by the servers or notated on the menu. Greed will be the end of this once fantastic experience in CB.
Yeah, It was not a great experience. It took an hour for us to get our food and then when we got our food, Everything was super salty. The waiter didn’t even bring us bread. Oh yeah, did I tell you we waited an hour for our food. It was horrible.
I hope they got the message by the 38$ uncooked lobster tail I left at the bar. 175$ bill 35$ dinner good bartender and host and I left a good tip hate to see that his check depends on that kitchen.
This place is ridiculously over priced. Add to it the fact that you have to buy everything that makes a complete meal separately is offensive, right down to the sauce for your food. Steak had decent flavor but way overpriced. The lobster had zero flavor. No seasoning on it, nothing. Even the texture was off. To be charged $8 for a tiny cup of Horseradish sauce for your steak, which NORMALLY comes with it every where else? Even that didn't taste very good. Lumpy is not creamy. I went with friends and was hard pressed not to walk out. Biggest waste of money ever.
We used to come here a lot because the food was fantastic. We came back for the first time in 2 years and it was very disappointing. The menu had changed and the place was empty. The elk tenderloin used to be great but this time it was terrible. I could not finish it. There were several people in our party and they were all disappointed with what they got. I doubt we will be back again.
