Great restaurant! Love the menu & every order I've had was perfectly prepared!
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Large portions and great service at this chef inspired locally owned restaurant
Brunch was full of options. Bloody Mary bar. Huevoes Juanita was delicious.
I’ve been to both locations and I’ve seen the same young girl at both locations. Mercedes is her name and she’s the best waitress! She knew the menu very and made excellent suggestions. The food is amazing!!! Never a disappoint! Kudos to Mercedes at both locations!
I just discovered that Jonathan’s has opened a 2nd location in North Dallas off Forest and Inwood and highly recommend all you foodies check this place out. The food was fantastic, friendly service & huge portions. Their gravy is the absolute best! They also serve salads, healthy breakfast items, sandwiches and are open until 3:00 every day.
AJ did a great job with our seven adult and fourinfant and toddler breakfast! The service was prompt and attentive, and the food excellent. We’re so glad to have a fantastic local neighborhood brunch spot perfect for the whole family.
Hands down the best breakfast and brunch spot!! Service was excellent and food was delicious!! my teen son said they were the best chicken and waffles he’s ever had! And he’s had a lot!
Food was exceptional. The biscuit's and gravy was the best I have ever had. Rebecca was an excellent waitress, absolutely perfect! I will definitely be going back.
Visiting from Austin. Recommended on Reddit. Front of House: Everybody was warm, and welcoming. Jade, our server, was knowledgeable about all of our bombard of questions. Back of House: These dudes can burn. One of our party ordered the Ahi Salad, and you can tell by how well the outside is seared while medium rare in the middle that these guys can cook. Highlights: Chicken and Waffles. I've been to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, and these guys are legit. The chicken is a butterflied breast that is chicken fried, which is an interesting choice. I'm sure that some people like Chicken and Waffles, but don't want to have to deal with bones. Your wish has been granted. Chicken salad: Don't see it too often on a menu. Ordered it just to try. Was good enough to take the rest home. Ahi Salad: Impressive when a salad makes you regret your order. One of those places where you want to come back and try everything the menu
Really great tasty juicy burger! I was very impressed. My friend had the veggie burger and liked that a lot as well. Great job!
Had chicken and waffles. It was fantastic. Will definitely be back for the rest of the menu. Also, gravy was superb.
Amazing service from the Amazing Rebecca. Also, my son said that it was the best breakfast that he had ever had.
Came in today and got the CFS as I was told that was best thing on the menu.. As my first time coming definitely was not let down by all means. This is my go to spot.. AJ the bartender is awesome..
Jonathon’s is the best restaurant to go to for breakfast, brunch or lunch in Dallas. Their food is like no other. Taste it and you will see what I am saying.
First time at Jonathon's Forestwood. Although they were busy, the service was attentive. We all enjoyed our food, and the ambiance was pleasant. I'll return.
Not fancy but good food, good service, good prices. Wish it was open at night. Think they close at 3pm. Had the poultry burger. Delicious!
Great place, food portions are big. Drinks are also good.
Jonathan's Diner turned out to be an absolute gem for lunch—hidden in plain sight. After unwinding at Parker U with a much-needed massage, I decided to give Jonathan's a shot. My first visit there, and let me tell you, the outside is as unassuming as it gets. A “blink and you'll miss it” kind of vibe. But the moment you step inside, the story shifts. No frills, no fuss, but somehow the interior feels just right—cozy, inviting, and surprisingly polished. Now let's talk about the real MVP: the food. The menu is just two pages, which you might think would make ordering a breeze. Wrong. Every dish sounds so good that deciding becomes its own delicious dilemma. I landed on the patty melt with fries, and when my order arrived, I couldn't believe my eyes—a towering patty melt paired with a mountain of freshly cut fries. It was a feast made for a champion. The patty melt? Absolute perfection, every bite oozing with flavor. The fries? Tender, golden, and dangerously tasty. I barely scratched the surface of their menu, but one thing's for sure—Jonathan's Diner has earned its spot as my go-to lunch destination after my Parker U massages. Next time, I'll be diving into more of those tempting options. Honestly, it’s not just a meal—it’s an experience.
We really enjoyed the food but it was the service that will make this a favorite. The whole vibe of the place is really good.
Very good food, attentive service, and generous portions. My only complaint is that they're not ope in the evenings.
Visiting from Atlanta, this is hands down the best chicken friend chicken and biscuits I’ve ever had. The chicken fried chicken was cooked to perfection, the seasoning was absolute , the gravy was savory and the biscuits were phenomenal. There were no modifications allowed to this chefs specialty- but truthfully none were needed. There was a turkey chorizo option- that I have not seen before and a lot of non pork options for those who don’t partake. I have to come again!
We read about this restaurant in DMagazine and wanted to check it out. I had the Ranger Wrap with Brunch potatoes and my husband had the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs. Everything was so good. Their brunch potatoes are the best. And the chicken fried steak was tender and not a lot of breading like some places have. The portions are huge and the service is great.
Loved our first-time breakfast here today! It’s not the old beloved Kel’s, but a fresh new breakfast experience. They don’t serve classic omelettes but have great variety of egg and other breakfast foods. I loved the breakfast tacos. Their bacon is really special and their potatoes were double-wow. Their biscuit was a hit with my wife, a bit crumbly but extra tasty with herbs and spices. Portions were large. We’ll keep this place on the top of our breakfast list!
My sisters and I had brunch here on a Sunday around noon for our baby sister'w birthday. It's a very lowkey and cozy spot. Definitely has a neighborhood/old country feel. The food was so good! The portion sizes are very generous. We all had to grab take-out boxes! Bringing my hubby next time.
Wow, my husband and I traveled from Central Texas to visit the Antique Mall next door. Having breakfast here turned out to be the highlight of the day! My husband enjoyed the Sopapillia waffle - which he thoroughly enjoyed and I loved the cheese grits, eggs and sourdough toast with homemade berry jam. The service was perfect, friendly, welcoming and fast! A definite keeper!
Absolutely fantastic!!! I did the Chicken Fried Steak with country potato’s and eggs. Best I’ve had in Dallas. The steak was literally the size of the plate. Must try unless you want to travel to Mary’s in Strawn TX or the place in Eagle Pass TX.
Had a great brunch here recently! The food was great (delicious chix salad), good-sized portions plus the Chicken & Waffles rivals original L.A. Roscoe's. We stayed an extended period and never felt rushed. Our waitress Jade took such good care of us. Enthusiastically recommend and will DEFINITELY return when next in Dallas!
Old-time atmosphere always ready to serve you that midday iced tea when you need it most
Having had the pleasure of dining at their other location on Beckley, Jonathon's Diner, I kinda of knew how this experience would pan out, and I was not disappointed. The wait on a Sunday at around 11 AM wasn't too bad, about 20 minutes. We started out with the Brunch Kabobs, which is smoked sausage, ham, and bacon with a coffee glaze, super yummy!! I ordered the Migas, and my dining partner ordered the Breakfast. Both were super delicious and were devoured rather quickly. That happens when you're hangry!! Definitely check this place out. It's tucked away behind the Forest Car Wash & Detail.
AJ the bartender was amazing. I had a mimosa, coffee, and the chicken fried steak. Portion was huge. Worth the money. Everything was so good. I will be back. I also got a little synopsis on the owners and they seem like wonderful people.
First time there and it was great. We had the chicken fried steak and they were huge. We sat at the bar and John took great care of us. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
Cozy... First rate service... The 'All in One Waffle' is to die for...! OMG... So good..!
Basically, Jonathon's Oak Cliff has moved north and become Jonathon's Forestwood at Forest Lane and Inwood in Dallas. It's the same excellent food and service, but now in a larger venue. There is ample seating both at tables and a large bar area inside. Outdoor seating is available when the weather is amenable. There is also plenty of parking. They serve breakfast and lunch daily, with slightly different hours on weekends when brunch is available. We had lunch a couple of weeks after their September 2023 opening, and as indicated, they didn't disappoint. I still recommend the chicken and waffle, but there isn't a bad option on the menu. Bring an appetite. They don't skimp on portions.
Friendly & Delicious A family favorite with huge portions and smiles all around. The Chicken and.Biscuits are delicious but too mig for me to eat. Opt for the side of Chicken & Gravy then maybe add on a side of grits. The Chicken Fried Steak was voted the best in Dallas and I might agree. Prepare to spit it or take the leftovers home. It’s huge. Ask about and eat their muffin of the day. Drinks are great with plenty of specialty cocktails, $5 mimosas, and a DIY Bloody Mary Bar. You’ll keep coming back for more
Wow! Just joined in on their 5 course wine dinner and it was probably one of the best wine pairings I have ever had. Food was immaculate!
Super delicious ate breakfast two days in a row last week, wonderful menu, great coffee and great staff. Highly recommend Jonathon for breakfast.
I love this place!! The food and drinks are excellent. Please try the chicken 🐓and waffles. You will not be disappointed.
Food and service were excellent. Our waitress, Rebecca was a fabulous waitress. She was so attentive, very personable and very funny as well!
Jonathans’s is a gem that I’m thrilled to have discovered has moved to my neighborhood. This location is fresh, clean and has lots of elbow room. With Jade’s outstanding service elevating the experience and the kitchen delivering those delicious dishes that are both comforting and satisfying, it’s a place I’ll be returning to often. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by and enjoy a meal that’s sure to start your day on a high note. Thanks again Jade, you rock !
Wonderful food & atmosphere. Always great food. Everything I've eaten has been wonderful. Drinks are very good too. Always great friendly service.
Cute little place. Portions are huge! And it’s priced really well. Food was Great and seasoned well! Definitely recommend! I will be coming back!
Long one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in DFW. It's awesome, every time, and the owners are some of the best people that the business and humanity have to offer. Like a first time every time. Best chicken fried steak in DFW.
If you’re looking for the very best down home cooking, the best service & the friendliest real people, you’ve definitely come to the right place! The host, Pete, recommended the Chicken & Biscuit, and it did not disappoint! I’ve been eating chicken fried chicken for 30 years & this is literally the best I’ve ever had, tender, juicy chicken in a crispy heavenly batter, with an epic black pepper gravy. Our server, Mercedes, suggested The Kure, a weekend special scramble filled with all the things…sausage, bacon, ham, cheese…YUM!! And the stellar food was only surpassed by the service. Mercedes was crazy busy but still always on point with coffee refills and a genuine smile, conversation & laughter. Real, friendly people serving really exceptional food. Do yourself a favor and stop by awhile.
My partner and I came here for brunch after he went with a friend and had an amazing experience. Let me tell you, this place? Amazing. No other word for it. The atmosphere fits a comfy diner vibe. Nothing fancy and that’s the best. We had no wait on a busy Saturday morning and the service was 10/10. Shoutout to Rebecca! She was kind, funny, warm, and fast. Would love to have her again. Now let’s get down to the food. I can not say enough about the food here! My partner had the Huevos Juanitos and I had the Sopapilla Waffle. We also started with the Brunch Kabobs. The kabobs were HUGE. The sweet coffee glaze paired beautifully with the tender and slightly spicy meat. The drippings added to the arugula and blueberry salad beneath the kabobs creating a lovely flavor. I could eat that as a salad by itself! The Huevos was FILLED with queso, peppers, cheese, egg, etc. All ingredients combined for a complete and cozy taste. Everything worked so well together! The Waffle…. Jesus they were phenomenal! I won’t lie, they were the best waffles I’ve had in my entire life. They don’t need any butter or syrup because the sweet vanilla crema was more than enough. The cinnamon and sugar created a slight crust on the waffle while the inside was still soft. The price was great. We spent $55 for two people. And that was with two speciality coffees, an appetizer, and two meals which we had to take a decent amount home because they gave you a lot. Overall, I would highly recommend trying this place out. They have a delicious menu, nice atmosphere, and wonderful staff.
Jonathon’s Forestwood is absolutely delicious! The portions are generous, and the food is incredible. I used to frequent the original location, and this one definitely lives up to its reputation. The Kure has always been a longtime favorite, but honestly, there isn’t a bad item on the menu. This time, I had the All in One Waffle and the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs—both were outstanding. The servings are huge, so I’ll have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. Jonathon’s is always a winner!
Ask for the Chicken Froed Steak! Jonathon’s has to be experienced, as a mere description just can’t do them justice. Great atmosphere with a bar-and-breakfast-diner motif. The service is second to none. But the real attraction is the chicken fried steak. Big enough to fill the whole plate, they start with a prime cut of beef that’s tenderized so that you can cut it with a fork. The batter is thick and tasty (contains Saltine crackers, they say) and fried to perfection. Plan on either getting a to-go box or unbuttoning your britches and getting a nap. We got the breakfast CFS & eggs. Matched with coffee and a Bloody Mary is enough to make a puppy pull a freight train!
Went with friends as a last minute brunch. Was seated quickly once the entire party arrived. We all enjoyed our food and speed of service. The poinsettias were great and chicken was so juicy and had a nice crunch.
Lure Ball Bites - Today’s Catch: Jonathan’s evolving from Oak Cliff to North Dallas felt like a trade evolution done right. New location, same top-tier stats. I stopped in for brunch before a long day of hauling items into storage, and coming at noon on a Thursday turned what’s usually a crowded place into a calm experience. The “Which Came First Sandwich” hit like a perfectly timed Critical Hit with crispy chicken, eggs, veggies, all stacked on sourdough and absolutely satisfying, with sweet potato fries that deserved just as much XP as the main course. Even the gravy pulled its weight, a true held item, not an afterthought, which is why this place stays in my regular rotation. Just know the noise level can spike during peak hours; if loud environments aren’t your thing, avoid breakfast and lunch rushes. However, the fact it’s always packed is proof this spot earns its badges.
My husband and I were in the area, and as soon as I saw the pictures on Google, I knew we had to try it. My husband got the burger with ham, egg, and bacon, which was good (he is picky and it was prepared as he requested). I had the peanut butter and jelly waffle with a side of bacon. It was so good! I loved it! The peanut butter was definitely the forefront flavor with the jelly hints. Service was spot on. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated. We got drinks in a reasonable time. The place was quite full. A little slow on the taking our food order and getting served, but again full room. The atmosphere was comfortable. Clean. The tables were a tad close together, and the busyness of the place made the chatter a bit loud.
Came here today didn't even know it was open. Husband had the chicken and biscuit big portion, also had the dangerous dogs with the spicy mustard but the mustard wasn't spicy at all but the flavor was good together. As we were on my way I looked at the menu but when we got there there were different menu items. They had sopapilla waffles so got those and they were very delicious a little on the sweet side with cinnamon sugar.
1st time there and it was sooo good, I'm pescatarean so had the veggie burger and the waiter was sooo nice he filled my drinks without asking, what a sweety pie...Will return again for sure, thanks Jonathan!
Service was fantastic. Melissa was amazing. Food was decent/ok. Coffee could be hotter.
Everything was soooo good. Dishes were packed with flavor. Highly recommend!!
YEP!!! Do it! Go to Jonathon’s- you won’t be disappointed! Had the chicken & waffles and it was delish! Had leftovers. 3 people in my party had chicken and biscuits and raved about it. Kids had pancakes and loved them. Apparently their waffles & pancakes are some special mix and they’re fabulous! Our waiter AJ was great & super attentive! It’s the cutest little diner spot. Oh, and they have a DIY Bloody Mary bar. We didn’t partake but it was well frequented by others. Highly recommend Jonathan’s! Only slight thing to consider is it’s a smaller, quaint environment, therefore it’s a tad loud (or I’m getting old 🤷🏼♀️)
All the food here is fresh and tasty! I've enjoyed everything from an omelette to a chicken fried steak. But my favorite thing to order is the migas. Mimosas are abundant here! They offer indoor and outdoor seating with extra seating at the bar as well. The service is always a little slow here- so don't expect fast food type of service. They're making this stuff from scratch!

We were blown away by the massive portions! The chicken fried steak was tender, chewable, pretty decent. Gravy is excellent. Our favorite here is the chicken and waffles. The chicken batter is crispy, and the food came out fresh. Service is kind!
Me and my family come here all the time! The food is wonderful especially the chicken fried steak. Derek was super attentive and made sure all our needs were met. 5 STARS!!!!!
This building sat vacant for over a decade. It's so nice to have a breakfast joint back in the hood. It's not just any breakfast joint, this place is legit. Great food, generous portions, chill atmosphere, prompt service and affordable pricing. Thank you guys ❤️
Nothing but 5 stars for this top notch Sunday brunch experience. Service was attentive and friendly. Food quality was unique and delicious. The place hops on Sunday which adds to the great and fun outing. My first time there will not be my last. Thanks Johnathan.
We love Jonathon’s and usually go for a late breakfast/lunch. Everything I’ve tried I have loved. Fried Chicken salad is my favorite. Their salad dressings taste homemade. Love their cappuccino and Bloody Mary bar. My mom loves the club sandwhich- it’s like no other. We took family from out of town and they were amazed at the size and flavor of the chicken fried steak. Chicken and waffle was also a hit. Only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere is at peak times, it is very loud. So we go later- problem solved.

Food was overall 8/10… didn’t like the pancakes or waffles…but everything else was good.. waiter was nice and atmosphere was good a lot of people
I got the Nooner with Potatoes, a friend ordered the chicken fried chicken and a banana nut bread waffles. Literally everything was amazing! The banana nut bread waffles weren’t too sweet, the waffle could’ve been a bit softer. The potatoes were well seasoned and the sausage in the burger was delicious. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I will be returning!
The chicken fried steak was huge and the crust stayed intact upon cutting, a sign the cook knows how to pre-tenderize the meat. The gravy however had way too much sage in it which over powered the taste unfortunately. And whoever thought serving it on top of the eggs and potatoes needs to rethink that one. If my wife hadn't had a plate under her bowl of biscuits and gravy she let me use, I'm not sure how I would have been able to cut it or eat the eggs and potatoes under it. I will definitely come back for the great chicken fried steak, but now know to request the gravy on the side, and the steak on a separate plate.
Cook to serve fresh food... My wife got the chicken biscuit. Nice size serving even enough to take home... I got the sopapilla waffle... A little overcooked more like a sopapilla waffle cookie. Great flavoring. Just wish it was a little less overcooked.. We will be back!!
Stopped here for a quick lunch in a break between my appointments at MedCity. We were greeted and seated quickly and brought waters along with our menu. Our sweet waitress was very attentive and gave us plenty of time to review the menu. I really, really wanted to try the chicken fried steak and eggs, but decided to order lighter since I had scans to do after lunch. I went with the chciken salad sandwich and sweet potato fries. The idea of ordering lighter really didn't pan out though, because this sandwich was LOADED! I've ordered chicken salad sandwiches from McAlisters and Chicken Salad Chick before...this thing was not at all skimpy like the others. This one wasn't messing around, which I appreciate...though I wish you luck fitting it into your mouth! The sweet potato fries were perfectly cut and prepared. I have no complaints at all for this place and would love to return one day for that chicken fried steak!
Stopped in for breakfast after our flight in from Nashville. Food was good, service was good and atmosphere was good. We had the country boy Benedict and the basoc breakfast. Can't remember the name of my drink but it was the one with Malibu and bubbles. It was yummy!

Friendly staff, slow service, unique fried foods, limited parking. Food just not for my liking bc I like more healthier options.
Food was just ok. Service was pretty bad - had to ask for food that wasn't brought to us. Server never even checked if everything was ok. Had to ask for more water. Not sure if it was an off day or just representative of the service level in general.
30+ min wait for table and then food to arrive at peak time. (They may have been short staffed since none of the outdoor tables were in service.) Noise level high. Good food though! If you order “The Kure” you’d better like Tabasco! ☄️
Our experience was pretty mediocre. It wasn’t very busy but our service was pretty slow and lacking. Atmosphere isn’t great, food was just okayish. We left most of our food on the plate.
Went for lunch and ordered the burger. Bun was great and the toppings were good but the burger, which was supposed to be cooked medium, was so overcooked it was like a hockey puck. Fries were excellent.
The first time we went to Johnson's Forestwood we were blown away with the food. The service at that time was mediocre at best. The pork chop breakfast was juicy and flavorful the first time it was the main reason we returned. This time it was dry, overcooked and flavorless. The chicken fried steak was beautifully golden brown and very easy to eat. I could cut it with my fork. This time it too was dry, over cooked and the coating was on the edge of burnt. The waiter was great.
The cheese grits were cold! The Eggs Benedict was awful! Just a bad day in the kitchen. Very disappointed in our second visit here. First time was excellent .
Scrambled Eggs are overdone, biscuits n gravy were dry. Don’t order biscuits n gravy…not good. Huevos Juanito was delicious
Food had pretty good flavor. Went with my husband and little girl. My husband's food was the only food that came out hot. My sandwich and my daughter's cheeseburger were barely even warm and our fries were clearly ice cold. Waited at least 10 minutes before our drink orders were taken along with our food order. Maybe another 20 minutes before my husband stepped out to go to the antique mall. Finally got our food and asked for to go boxes from a nice young lady but had to ask at least 4 times for our check before someone finally got ahold of our server which was not necessarily apparent that it was the bartender/bar back.
Um… The Eggs Benedict (Dad’s Benedict on their menu) was a FRIED egg atop a slice of fried ham over an English muffin with a weird mustard/mayo combo for their “Holandaise Sauce”… The accompanying taters were good though.
Where do I start, we tried this place twice, the first time we came they were so busy with very few servers.. The servers had bad attitudes.. It was the first of the year. We came cause we heard about this famous chicken fried steak.. Today was the day we would come back and give that chicken fried steak a try.. Here are my thoughts.. The steak coating was bland…made with crushed up unsalted saltines.. the steak itself had a sour flavor like it was not fresh.. Sitting too long in a fridge.. The gravy was also bland… eggs were ok, fries were mushy but seasoned much better than the steak… cold brew coffee tastes chemically. My daughter had the waffles they were undercooked and also bland in flavor.. (sort of tasted like play dough) Our waiter didn't seem to notice that we barely ate anything and didn't ask any questions just grabbed the plates and took them to the back.. Pass on this place unless you don't like seasoning.. The atmosphere is ok.. The tables are regular diner tables.. I couldn't tell where the front door was… seems like it should be a side door. I'm gonna stop here…. D magazine… your lossing your ability to select good food. This is “not” the best of Big D.
I ordered take out for the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. The Steak was dry and overcooked, tasted burnt and they did not give me any Gravy, and I had asked for Brown Gravy in the Side. I spent $28.68, I will never go back to this place. It is not the "Best Chicken Fried Steak In Dallas"!!!
Darn, I really wanted to like this place. I had eggs and waffles and although the eggs were okay, I had to wait on the waffle. When it did come, our waitress said she would bring the syrup and butter. She never did and we had to ask someone else after several minutes; but by then my waffle was cold. I was disappointed as our waitress was nice and probably simply forgot. The kicker is when I mentioned it to the manager (and I assume owner), he could care less. "Come back then and I'll buy you a waffle," he said sarcastically. Don't worry, I won't be back.
Awful service, marginal food. I ordered a Belgian waffle and brunch potatoes. My friend had chicken salad sandwich. The waffle arrived cold and overcooked. I told the server and he took it away. I elected not to try it again. My friend had ordered her sandwich on wheat untoasted and it came out white bread, toasted. The server was less than impressive. I don’t know why it has such good ratings. I think it may be a good place for a bar. Spoke to the manager and all he did was smile. Won’t go back.
They just have egg cheese and bacon in all it i try 3 diferent plates when i went on this restaurant i try contry benedict just got egg cheese and bacon and i says inget back i i try huevos juanitos got the same the only diference was green peper so i get back this past monday but i try tacos cause yall know tacos always are the best in everywhere but no in this restaurant they just put egg cheese en bacon and they got worths tortillas ever i seen on my life dont taste good the dressing for salad taste too acid and the salad they got like maybe 3 days before cause is too long and dont taste nothing fresh
We went here and waiting 10 minutes. Ask to sit outside due to inside being crowded. Host was nice but server act like she did want to accommodate us. She stated the shade vision was go blow away. Remind you there was a couple sitting outside with a shade over there table. We ask where can we sit and she like ummm I don’t know. Like what. So we left and will never go back. We normally go to other location. This was first and late.
