This hotel was great and its right on the seafront! The staff were great and ensured we had a pleasant stay. The breakfast tasted amazing and it was included in the room price. This was one of the cheapest hotels I found in the area, so I was very happy with what I got for my money - hence the 5 stars. The rooms have an old feel to them, but I actually liked that

Some quite unfair comments here, a small local business working very hard during a pandemic! Staff were super friendly, explained there may be a wait for food as they were very busy, all wearing masks and tables cleaned very quickly. Food arrived way within 30 minutes and was piping hot, this seemed a reasonable amount of time to wait for cooked to order? We had the blt and fries and sausage and mash and the blt was delicious thick crispy bacon and lots of chicken, the sausage and mash was out of the world, the sausages are local and the gravy was incredible. So much so we came back a week later and had it again! Would definitely recommend and will be returning soon!

Lovely poistioned hotel right by the beach outside space was great especially table service, room was light and airy very nice, breakfast was excellent great experience all round. Parking in town was ample

lovely meal at Dunkerleys. Reasonably priced. Good quality. Would recommend the seafood platter! Perfect way to end our mini break. Sat outside and listened to the live music, which wasn't too loud

Fantastic Meal Out for Granny's Birthday! The selection on the menu was excellent especially the Seafood. We had the prawns, mussels and scampi all was brilliant. They Also have Pub Classics, fine dining and sandwiches/paninis etc 😋 something for everyone! Kids meals were also a great size.

Very nice family hotel and seafood restaurant. We come for lunch a couple of times a year and the food and service is always excellent! Lobster Thermidor and it was delicious!

We liked this so much we went back 6months later and still had a lovely meal. Again the mussels and scallops were just great, we can really recommend those starters. The hot smoked salmon and the whole plaice on the bone were good choices. I rounded the meal off with the chefs pavlova and it didnt disappoint. With my original review as follows. Lovely restaurant with a varied menu with some great seafood and fish selections. We especially enjoyed the scallops, mussels, and Mediterranean prawns..and wow! they make their own ice cream. I can recommend sugarnut and white chocolate and ginger. Also, chocolate orange ginger and rosemary ice cream. A really lovely quality relaxed meal. Our waitress was very friendly and bubbly, which made a difference, giving us a lovely evening.

Only eaten here a couple of times (not slept) always good food & drink in a lovely welcoming atmosphere for dining with friends.

Excellent service and rooms at a reasonable price. The situation right next to the seafront, pier and town centre couldn't be better.

We visited Saturday night and had a lovely meal, service was brilliant and I loved the atmosphere

My sister in law and I had a wonderful time, the staff were really friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was warm and cozy. We had a delicious, relaxed dinner and then shared a cheese plate with port. It was a significant birthday and we felt very special. We both slept very well, even though it was the night of the storm. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We would both love to come again thank you

We didn't stay there, we went to eat. Ideally situated right on the sea front and 10mins walk from the station . It is a lovely restaurant and the staff are very welcoming , everything was home cooked even the chips my mum had with her lightly battered cod that was cooked to perfection it looked handsome , my Auntie opted for the sausage and mash which had a lovely homemade gravy but she could not finish it all as they are large portions, I myself went for the sea food tagliatelle that was absolutely cooked to perfection and delicious. The food is reasonably priced for 3 of us with drinks (and I had a starter) came to £57.00 and as I said all home cooked not yr average Jo pub food . Will definitely go back 💯 Delicious.

Hi, my daughter and I ate food at your restaurant last night, I had the Beer battered Cod and chips, my daughter had the Honey baked Salmon, we both tried some of each others and agreed they were the best fish dinners we'd ever had!! I felt I had to say what a wonderful place you have and what a wonderful team, from the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed and made comfortable instantly, the decor is great, the whole area was immaculately clean, the atmosphere just right, as was the service, but the food, the food was the star of the show so to speak, it was fantastic!! I'd like to thank your team from front of House staff and your chefs right on to your cleaners for an amazing night, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back again on our next visit to Deal, my only regret is that we didn't discover your restaurant on our 1st night in Deal..

Saw the menu and decided to go in on the spur of the moment. Friendly and welcoming staff. Comfortable layout. Ordered fish and it was cooked to order: a very enjoyable meal accompanied by locally brewed beer. Would definitely go there for the fish.

S

Such a fantastic location, plus the team were kind enough to let us move to a room with a sea view. The food was stunning (we had the scampi, the fish, the kippers and the full English - not all at once; dinner and breakfast). Team were friendly and accommodating, plus there is a nice atmosphere. Both rooms were huge, comfortable, clean and had character. Do not listen to/read the review from Andrew Spillett; the man is a loon. We will be back, so thank you Cheryl, Dan, Ian and the team! Stu and Tasha.

Amazing food. Great atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for us. We have been to this restaurant many time and can't wait for our next visit. We loved it and were made to feel very special.

K

I had a fantastic dinner here. The set menu was reasonably priced particularly for such a high standard of food. Both the pigeon and pork belly were wonderful. Service was also brilliant. They had a large party in and were clearly busy but we still felt very well looked after and didn’t have to wait at all.

My wife and l just stopped on the seafront for a beer and a beer. Ended up with a bowl if chips as well. Table service out side was quick and efficient, the young waitress very keen to please. A bit windy today and unfortunately overlooks a busy road between the hotel and beach (not their fault of course) but reasonably priced and toilets were immaculate as well. Would recommend

T
Tia Sotiriou

The inside is quite dated but more importantly it is clean. The hotel faces the sea and is next to two very nice pubs. The staff are young locals and very professional and helpful. It's worth having dinner here. The food is local fresh produce and well presented. The breakfast is great! Options of full English or kippers with eggs, which I had and they were delicious and fresh. I asked if I could add tomato and mushrooms and it wasn't a problem. Would recommend this hotel for a short stay.

Fantastic food, fresh and tasty. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, nice clean toilets. We love to head for this restaurant for a delicious meal every time. Prices very reasonable too.

I visit maybe yearly for business jollies: it's fair to say someone else pays. I've stayed about a half-dozen times now and it's always good. The food is a cut above for the price. Last night I had Oysters Harris (you need to ask what that is) then fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and the best chunky chips in a long time. The staff are amazing: warm and discreet, dinner and breakfast. Rooms always very clean and are being updated, I hear. Most of the views are great; some are incredible as the Hotel faces the beach. Come in Summer and you'll be treated to a windowbox full of flowers! Deal itself has a mild climate and can be picture-postcard with lots of small shops and cafes. And unlike Cornwall, it's flat!

C

A very cosy hotel to share with that special someone. My gorgeous lady and I spent two nights here and had some very restful night's sleep on the seafront and a very good breakfast (which was included in the price, I can't be sure of the price of breakfast individually, so I can't judge it on that merit). The restaurant food was good for the price, however the katsu's could really do with some more sauce.

I
Icheeva Kaigan

Stayed in the crows nest room (amazing view )Absolutely fabulous hotel , won't stay anywhere else in deal in future! Lovely and helpful staff who assisted us with bringing out bags to the room. Breakfast was included in the price which was very helpful (and tasty) . Thank you to the staff at dunkerleys and hope to come back soon. Thank you to the super friendly and accommodating staff.

Just spent 2 nights at Dunkerleys (away on business). The location, right on the seafront, is superb. The breakfast was awesome and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Will definitely stay there again (especially for the breakfast!).

Our meal was outstanding .Scallops to die for, they melted in your 👄 Each dish was beautiful crafted on our plates and tasted gorgeous. Perfect for special meal which is why we attended Ross birthday . The bar has a menu that is more reasonably priced.. Highly recommended this restaurant service was very efficient too.....

Food was perfectly cooked, piping hot. I had Dover sole and fries and my husband had the fish and chips. We sat outside as we had our dog and the waiter brought her a bowl of water. He was helpful and friendly. Food was cooked with love. I just adore Dover sole and I am so glad I chose it. It was a large piece and also full of roe which I have never had in a sole before.

I

Didn't stay, only called in for lunch which was really good again. Well worth dropping in cooked fresh. As they don't serve easy dining pizza, and burgers. There are never too many children there.

Four of us for Sunday lunch, made very welcomed. Food excellent, young waitress very polite and helpful. Great day out and very highly recommended.

J

Excellent dinner. Dan helped serve us and was a great host. Pleasantly making sure we were taken care of. Great recommendations, and even asked us if we'd like the air turned down. It was late (8pm) and we had the whole resturaunt to ourselves. Sea Bass was excellent. Our kids had hamburgers which were also great. Highly recommended!

Travelled down for a family function. The hotel was lovely, although a little tied, but it served our purpose. If in Deal again we would book again.

T
Trudi Gibbins

Hotel and rooms need updating. Stayed in a king size bed room. The bathroom ceiling needed addressing & the shower needed adjusting as water everywhere. The room needs updating attention to detail. The room was extremely hot so didn’t get a good nights sleep, also very noisy downstairs. However after all said breakfast was 100% staff couldn’t do enough for you, we had a full English it was lovely staff kept asking if we needed more toast coffee etc. all staff we met where happy with smiles… and helpful. £90 was what we paid for one night including breakfast. Would I stay again No .. would I stop for breakfast yes.

Not a bad little place, room was of a decent size and quality for the money, which incidentally was good compared to some other establishments locally. Breakfast was nice and the staff were helpful. In a very good location right on the seafront and near the centre of town. No local parking, so you have to book into one of the relatively inexpensive paying car parks. Would stay there again.

Recently revisited Deal and ate here. Pretty good food so it lives up to its reputation locally. Dinner consumed was 2 X tomato soup. Unusually my partner and myself ordered the same thing and it was pretty good. Main course was salmon fillet got my partner and mussels gor myself. Once more our choices hit the spot. Dessert was ice cream and cheeseboard. I ate both with only marginal help from my other half who, as usual, had a spoonful of my dessert. Overall it was pretty good and we'd definitely go back.

M
Marie Brown

Great central location for the centre. Pay and display car park across the road that is free 6pm-8am but has 3 hour max stay during the day. Definitely worth the price

G
Gary Salter

Enjoyed my pint of prawns , the only criticism would be , I would of enjoyed them more if they were cold ,they were room temperature. However, I've woken up this morning and I'm not ill. Good price and large portion . I enjoyed my mussels too. The wife thought them too small, and unfortunately for her a lot of shells were empty. Mine were great . The ladies serving were all very nice and friendly and couldn't fault the service It's a thumbs up from me, but not the misses

We sat outside in the sunshine after a long day cycling. Ordered up a round of seafood dishes, all delicious. Friendly and efficient staff, great place to do along the coast.

L

Remains a seafood staple. At first I ordered the mackerel, but unfortunately they only had herring, that message wasn't passed to the staff so when my meal arrived it wasn't what I was expecting, but the bit I tasted was cooked to perfection, well seasoned and not overcooked. The host was so gracious and apologetic, he replaced my dinner immediately with the prawns, which were so yummy I had garlic butter sauce dripping down my chin! My mum had the goats cheese salad an my word the cheese was so tasty I was stealing hers!! My only criticism would be that the place needs a good deep clean of the soft furnishings and carpets, years of excellent fish dishes have taken their toll and it smells a little musty in there. Otherwise a really lovely place to get your seafood fix in Deal, I will definitely be going again and ordering the mackerel!!

M
Matthew Watson

Fabulous location to take your Nanna to tea. Rooms are ok. Not that fancy. But you get a sea view. Which is worth it. Breakfast is good. Lovely full English, but service was a bit slow. Mainly cos their staff are 17 year old kids. Bless em.

We visited and sat outside the waitress was very good well informed ,the service quick and food delicious. On our second visit we sat indoors and are waitress basically forgot about us After waiting some length of time We ordered our food and collected our own drinks from the bar. The food arrived quickly and was again delicious m

The quality of the food was decent, but we found the pork to be quite tough and chewy. On the positive side, we really enjoyed the oysters they served. However, we did experience some frustration with the service as it took a significantly long time for our orders to be served. Despite these issues, we appreciated the overall dining experience.

We stayed at Dunkerleys for our anniversary for the Saturday night and was looking forward to our stay. We was allowed to check in early and our room itself was brilliant. We lazed around for an hour and went into town when we returned we relaxed in our room enjoyed the views. We had dinner in the restaurant and went out for the evening. However when we returned at around 11pm was when it went a bit wrong. The room had been a comfortable temp throughout the day but was chilly in the evening but the radiator in the bedroom wasn't working and I couget the aircon system working so ended up leaving the bathroom door as the radiator in there was scalding hot as we both found out by burning ourselves on it. When we pulled the bed sheet back to get in bed I noticed a brown/blooded stain on my side by now I felt it was to late to cause a fuss and so slept on top of the duvet which was a big disappointment as I couldn't keep and kept awake a lot of the time due to it. The TV didn't switch on and off via the remote and we had to use the plug switch. We reported this in the morning showing the picture but nothing. The meal we had at the restaurant was nothing special and I paid £33 for what I felt was a very mediocre meal plus the rather nice setting was totally ruined by the god awful depressing music they were playing. I have sent an email mentioning the issues I had but have not received a response to date. It's a shame because the room was very nice, maybe my expectations were to high in the first place.

S
Sean Goodhart

Good welcome, but a bit slow to get going with our drinks order... Staff multi-tasking to look after check-in and the bar, soon got things sorted when a second server came along and checked how we were - good teamwork. Food wise, mains excellent, puddings ok.

We have been to this Restaurant several times, and have always had a very good Lunch. As we had a friend visit from Norfolk, and as a treat I booked a table for 3 for Lunch (yesterday). I have to say I was most disappointed. The meals arrived and looked a little lost on the plates. I have to say on previous visits the plates have been full. I understand that food prices have risen, but so have the prices at Dunkerley's. My Wife had Salmon and vegetables, which were sparse on the plate. Our friend had Cod & chips, with the Cod at least a third smaller than previous visits, served with no more than 8 or 9 chips and some mushy peas. I had Plaice and new potato's with sugar snaps. Well the fish was ok, but I had 6 Jersey Royal size potato's cut in half, and a desert spoon of frozen peas with 4 sugar snaps poked in ?. For the price we all left feeling hungry, Most disappointed Dunkerley's. Can't fault service. but with a non alcohol drink £ 70. Sorry but will not be returning.

We had a very pleasant stay here in late September. We had a seaview room which was a little dated and worn but comfortable enough. The breakfast was very good and the staff were efficient. A seaview room should have clean windows to enjoy the view, unfortunately ours were very dirty and needed a good clean. It was still a reasonable place to stay though and an enjoyable stay.

R

Good food and service, portions were a bit on the small side.

J

I had lunch here. It was ok but expensive in my opinion

D
Deggsie “Deggs” Degs

Stopped here for a sandwich at lunch. Service was efficient but the sandwich was just ok. I had hoped for a light lunch. I ha a smoked salmon with a cucumber relish. Plenty of smoked salmon but yhe bread was cut far too thick and it was spread with something quite unlike butter. The relish was too sweet. Server tried to clear my plate before I’d finished. Felt over faced by the he whole meal The excessive bread put me off my dinner

M

Went to the restaurant earlier and had the oysters and the scallops. Was immensely below average. Oysters were tiny with loads of bits in em. Weren't shucked very well. Scallops were too nicely plated for what they were. Deffo from frozen. Waiting staff were nice.

S
Sue

Ordered what was supposed to be a quick meal in the bar bistro. Unfortunately errors were made in one of the dishes and others arrived lukewarm. Not at all like previous experiences. Very disappointing.

We visited Dunkerley's for breakfast, hadn't heard great things about it but gave it a shot anyway as the other places nearby were busy. I now know why this place was empty. The service was poor, the waitress was perhaps new but I'd expect them to at least know what things were on the menu. I also found it strange that we were expected to pay for our food before it came out. The worst part was the food itself, I had eggs royale. The presentation was poor and there was a lot of the poaching water that had made it onto my plate which soaked through the muffin and was quite vinegary. The eggs were poached perfectly though. My companion had a bland looking plate of overcooked and under-seasoned scrambled eggs with salmon on toast. There was so little salmon on their plate that one could be forgiven for thinking it was garnish. Overall with all the competition in the area, I'm not surprised that Dunkerley's often looks empty. The decor inside and out is dated and it seems like they're more interested in grabbing money off tourists who're coming down to the coast on a weekend jolly rather than attracting regulars. A place to avoid.

K
Keith Newman

I just wanted to post up about our experience at this place. Firstly be aware they take your money before you get your food and tell you it's because people left without paying. I was a bit suspicious, but after ordering 2 simple sandwiches and waiting nearly 45 minutes for them when there really wasn't a lot of people i asked for my food. The waitress was contrary and then when we got our food the " sorry for the wait" was delivered monotone and the food just plumped on the table. So when you Pay for food before getting it this is what happens. Finally the ham and apple chutney sandwich was appalling. Won't be returning to this place again.

J
John Edwards

We checked before booking a table for Sunday lunch that they could cater for a disabled person in a mobility scooter. They said yes, no they could not. Food to salty and swimming in gravy, service very poor. We gave up after two courses paid and left

W
W “What’s that” C

service terrible, after have walked 10miles dover 2 deal with my dog to stop at a traveler bar/ rooms up stairs inn, waited by the bar/door to be served to only just be look at but no movement , to then a person leaning over a bar and saying no dog allowed in here i said that fine do i order from the door , staff giggle and took my order of two beers i then waited outside on the wet seats for the beers only then to have to down them as it then lashed it down we had find cover as i was out on a walk they did have cover but wasn’t erected

G
G Mac10

This reviews for the restaurant. We waited outside for 15 minutes and nobody even came up to or looked at even though if you’re trying to flag them down. Go next-door there are two other restaurants that you order right away.

Sick after seafood experience. My partner and I are locals and have been to this restaurant before - the meat dish was lovely. However, on Friday 12th January 2024 we decided to share a starter of grilled oysters with garlic butter. The dish was bought out and it was a plate of raw oysters. We kindly corrected the waitress and our dish was taken away. When it returned the oyster shells felt slightly warm to touch and there was indeed garlic butter melted onto them. I suspect they were the same raw oysters with butter melted. This was the only dish my partner and I shared and we have both had vomiting and diarrhea which commenced on the Sunday and I am still off work feeling absolutely awful. I am disappointed as I emailed Dunkerleys to let them know how sick we were but have still had absolutely no response. I don't expect to go for a meal and end up with food poisoning and a week off work. Sort it out.

O
Owen

AVOID RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. Not only are the portions incredibly tiny (and expensive), the quality of the food is astonishingly bad. This was hands down the worst meal I've ever had. Half of the fish fillet on main course was stone cold, while the other half was hot, clearly indicating that it had been microwaved. You should be ashamed of the food coming out of that kitchen, you are seriously putting people's health at risk. Whatever you do in life, do not come and eat here.

Terrible customer service paid £8.95 for peach bellini that was like washing up water, zero peach and meant to be some type of puree, asked to change to anothef drink and told had to pay full price for a new one, ssid no then tried to charge me extra towards another one, young staff had to keep phonjng manager to ask - then decided just wanted to leave snd requested refunded - another call to manager then offered partial refund - have never been treated so badly as a customer - told them to keep partial refund ! As would never want to come back. The barmaid tried the drink and even agreed it didn’t taste good. Not staff fault, obviously not trained, no manager on site and appalling customer service skills. Another couple witnessed all the conversation and even told me I had to go to reception to speak to barmaid. Don’t waste money go somewhere where cocktails are made properly with correct ingredients.
