We come here regularly and have never had a bad experience. Today we came for an anniversary and again, top notch service / food. The staff here are friendly and always happy to help. Food was perfectly cooked and delicious, with a great selection on their menu. Would definitely recommend their Sunday roasts. The overall setting inside is cozy, especially in the cold winter months near the fire places. The pub is also dog friendly
Fantastic overnight stay. If you are driving in the area, it is highly recommended to stop here. The pub is absolutely beautiful with attention to every corner. Our suite room was stunning, specious and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Staff was kind and friendly. Thanks for wonderful experience!
We had a fantastic stay at The Marquis of Granby, just my wife and I enjoying a much-needed break. Everything about our visit was excellent, the food was outstanding, the accommodation was comfortable and beautifully kept, and the hospitality was genuinely warm and welcoming. The staff were brilliant throughout our stay, with a special mention to Sam, who went above and beyond to make our experience truly memorable. His attention to detail, friendliness, and professionalism made a real difference and added a personal touch that didn’t go unnoticed. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing break with great food and exceptional service
Terrific stay! Highly recommend. What a treasure. Fantastic meals. Well-deserved accolades to their chef. I was fortunate enough to be there across a change of menus. Both were wonderful. Truly delicious. A great location and base for exploring Kent.
Delightful restaurant. Very quaint and a bit confusing with all the glass and mirrors. Defo worth a visit, not too expensive. Very glad I went. Enjoyed interacting with the staff too 😀
Excellent little place to stay. The decor, the rooms, the staff and the food. Couldn't fault anything. Will definitely be staying again.
We loved our stay here, was a slight issue with being given the wrong room but we decided it wasn’t worth making a fuss as the one we got was still stunning. Lovely location for all we wanted to go. Food was great and staff were lovely
Amazing view. Excellent choice of menu. Food is amazing. Well presented. Really friendly staff.
Visiting here from NZ for a few days, we loved the Inn. It was close to Dover which was our destination. The bar staff in fact all the staff were fantastic running around after customers. Food was well priced and good quality. Highly recommend by us and our friends 😊
A fantastic short stay at the Marquis of Granby this weekend as we popped to Kent for a wedding. Staff were great, really friendly and helpful. Room was beautiful (and the bathtub was to die for!). Breakfast was lovely and overall would happily stay again if we were in the area.
We had a lovely stay and meal for my birthday. The food was fantastic and the service was spot on! Our room was lovely and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable too. My only gripe is with the voucher system. Having to tell the waitress we have our food included in the stay, after receiving the bill. I could see we were not the only ones with this issue. A note on the system would surely suffice. Thank you for a lovely evening and stay.
Very accommodating staff, very friendly. Great roast dinner as well. Would definitely go back.
Lovely Sunday Lunch booked last minute. Service was superb and the food was genuinely Gold standard. We would thoroughly recommend the roasts at this establishment. Staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome.....Thank you 5 Stars from us ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What a beautiful place and location for a lovely gastro pub. This place is exceptional. The staff are friendly ,. The establishment is very clean. I've not stayed here yet but I am sure I will in time. Go try and see..I believe you will be not disappointed. Nb,.Great music too.
Beautiful meal! Celebrating a birthday and got a surprise birthday sweet treat. The food was incredible as well as the service! Thank you to Sam, Sam and Sam!
Lovely Sunday lunch, with a wide choice of options on the menu. Everything was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The roast had a good selection of vegetables. The service was friendly and efficient, thank you Sam. Only observation, the dessert described as Clementine Mousse is mostly chocolate. If you are looking for an excellent meal we can recommend the Marquis of Grandby.
I’m a regular business traveler and I stay in inns and hotels all over the country. I am also certainly not the person to leave google reviews, but this place was so good I actually thought I might leave one for a change. Spent 2 nights here, stayed in the Everden room which is about as good a room I’ve ever had for the price. Very nice chap took the time to show me to my room and show me where everything was (sorry - I didn’t catch your name). Huge bathtub and waterfall shower and a very very comfy bed, plus a pack of freshly baked cookies from the kitchen (very nice touch - not something you see often), slept like a baby both nights and praise the lord - a proper coffee machine for the mornings. First morning I was rushed for breakfast so they’d made me a takeaway bag in advance with a fresh coffee to go out the door with, spot on. Dinner was superb, eating alone can be a bit awkward but staff were great, excellent service and enthusiastic about their food. The food is produced by good chefs and clearly with passion and care, and they definitely know their way around a bit of pork belly, super tender and crispy skin - bosh. Then Raspberry ripple panna cotta with raspberry sorbet - immense. The place is a winner, set in beautiful scenery in a nice peaceful village. Genuinely couldn’t fault anything and it represents really good value for money as well for any fellow business travellers. But would also of course be an amazing place to bring the other half for a night away. Thank you
Stayed here for a night in June because my brother was getting married nearby. Wonderful rooms. Amazing food. Great drinking options. Brilliant service 👏
My sister and I were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a delicious meal with excellent service. My cockapoo was treated like a VIP. We’ll be back!
A great lunch from a great team in a very comfortable environment. This is always a good experience.
We had a really wonderful stay here whilst visiting Dover and celebrating our birthday/anniversary. Accommodation was brilliant, staff were friendly, and both dinner & breakfast were exceptional! Would love to stay here again:)
The inn is great, we stopped for lunch and both had the roast beef (which was delicious), we also each had a starter which were also excellent. The staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. It is dog friendly and he was made to feel welcome. The beer was also very good.
I had a fantastic dining experience at Marquis of Granby! The food was absolutely delicious. I was lucky enough to try a few of the small bites as well as a starter. The Camembert and cranberry was my favourite and the pork belly bites were incredible. I also started with the special butternut squash soup, which was rich and flavorful and for the main course, I enjoyed a really tasty burger. The setting and environment were lovely, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the overall vibe was delightful. Highly recommend!
Came here for my birthday lunch. Food was amazing, high quality and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. The prices might seem steep but it is worth every penny
Wonderful meal for valentines with my partner, the food was fantastic and had very good options for dietary restrictions. There was an incredible singer that really made our evening.
We stayed here one night and wish we had stayed a few more. This was our stop before going through the Eurotunnel early the next day. We had booked this place on a gamble, since we hadn’t stayed here before. The reviews were good though, and rightfully so! When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave us a big room to accommodate our rather large Labrador that we brought with us. The room was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. We were surprised to find treats, waste bags and toys for our dog and we could even go outside straight from our room to give the dog a quick walk. Wonderful! The highlight for us was the food we had for dinner. We started off with the pork belly small bites and the scotch egg. Especially the latter was absolutely delicious. For mains we had the monk fish special and the Korean bbq spareribs. The first was delicate and well balanced, the latter was big in flavor with the meat falling off the bone. Again, utterly delicious. Dessert was the panna cotta and the sticky toffee pudding. And, again, full scores. It has been a while since we’ve enjoyed a dinner so much from start to finish, but we simply can’t fault it. Huge compliments to the chef; spot on flavor combinations, portion sizes and presentation. We go to the UK reasonably often and we cannot wait to book The Marquis of Granby again for our next trip!
We absolutely loved our stay, and meals, here. Fantastic hotel; the collard room, with the giant copper bath tub, was really nice. Super comfy bed and the bath tub you don't want to leave. Only slight negative would be the noise from the hallway when people come by, and from the bar area downstairs. But not enough to take any stars off. Location wise it's simple enough to get to, and there's walks etc nearby. Food; incredible. The dinner was absolutely top notch, full of flavour, very generous portions and served by attentive and friendly staff. Likewise the breakfast was delicious. Would not hesitate to return and have already recommended it to several friends.
Great room, and friendly service. Good choice of food on main menus and the breakfast was wonderful. Great ingredients, well cooked and cold and cooked breakfast included in price. Lovely village and close to Canterbury, Dover so perfect for us (wedding in Canterbury)
We ate the Sunday roast, really delicious, full of flavour. Quality meat and well executed vegetables, best cauliflower cheese We have ever had ! Highly recommended.
Great staff, clean rooms and a very nice and cozy bar
If I could give 6 stars or more I would. We found the Marquis of Granby whilst looking for somewhere pet friendly to stay before travelling back to Europe via the channel tunnel. We arrived late on Thursday evening only to discover I'd booked the wrong date - the staff were incredibly accommodating in finding us a room and changing the booking. When we left I forgot my charger and Silva went out of his way to contact me & let me know, and offer to post the charger to me. Incredible service, and on top of that the food was outstanding, they have a wonderful selection of local wines and the place is truly dog friendly - they were even able to join us for breakfast.
From the moment we arrived to the morning we left our stay at the Marquis of Granby was excellent. We had 3 rooms, Everden- Collard - Drellingore . Every room had a WOW factor. With all the facilities you needed. A super comfy night’s sleep. We had an evening meal , 4 courses with wine and beers and each course was excellent ( lovingly cooked and presented). Service throughout was friendly, professional and to a very high standard. The following morning we had breakfast which again was extremely delicious and came with lots of options Overall ratings Accommodation 10/10 Food and drinks 10/10 Service and staff 10/10 Location 10/10 Value for money 10/10 Parking 10/10 Our only negative was why have we never been here before Great work to everyone at the Marquis of granby
This evening I arrived at the hotel at 8 pm thinking that I booked a room by booking.com. But it was not in the system off the owner, there was a room available but not cleaned. All staff have taken care that I got a cleaned room, they sat me at a table and provided me with fantastic food from their new spring menu. A realy extraordinary experience after 32 years travelling around the world as service engineer. You can't go to a beter place with fantastic staff and food.
First time visiting the restaurant yesterday for a Sunday roast with friends. The food was incredible! I will definitely be returning and have already spread the word to family. Fabulous service by Sam as well, really attentive and knowledgeable - would 100% recommend 😊
Absolutely amazing food today! We went for Sunday lunch and the food was 10/10 - would 100% recommend, you won’t be disappointed. We had Sam serve us tonight and his attention to detail was brilliant! Top service and epic food! We’ll definitely be back - thank you!!
Had a wonderful meal with friends recently. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious! Sam was our server and went above and beyond for us. Will definitely return and recommend it to others.
Very pleased to have a comfortable and well prepared meal. Staff were courteous, the pub is well decorated and replete with English countryside trappings. This may read strange but I was taken by the care of C which they maintained the toilets. Plenty of hand towns and very clean. Stop by for the fish and chips: just bring s big appetite.
I came here for the first time about a month ago for a birthday lunch outing with my family. As it was a Sunday, all of the party, except myself, indulged with the restaurant's famous Sunday roast option. I, however, went for something different and chose a seafood pasta dish which was beyond delicious; the crab, chilli and smoked trout bucatini with toasted hazelnuts. It was one of the most moreish and memorable dishes I've ever enjoyed in a restaurant; and I've been to many in my years. The topping of toasted hazelnuts was a playful and creative touch to the pasta in adding some extra depth of flavour, as well as some contrast in texture. My family enjoyed their Sunday roast lunches (I believe all three had one of each of the roast meat options from the menu), and they all raved about the quality during and after! The interior decor and atmosphere were both enjoyable and added well to the overall experience of the lunch. I would personally be more than happy to return to this restaurant just to taste that beautiful seafood pasta dish once more! Or maybe twice...
We came for the Sunday Roast. The food was really good - one of the best roasts I’ve had in a while. Beef was cooked perfectly. What let it down was the service. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff but greeting, taking orders etc was so slow. We ordered a glass of wine and another lemonade when our food arrived. Followed it up two different members of staff. By the time they arrived, we’d finished our food. They were quick to bring the bill but no one then came to take payment for another 20 minutes. Real shame when you consider a meal for 2 was over £120+
Went for Sunday roast, it is one of our favourite launches. Slightly disappointed that the beef was a little tough, however, the rest of the meal (as usual) was faultless. Excellent staff, wonderful ambience and we left 'stuffed' due to the partaking in the enticing starters & sweets on the menu. We will be back (we have also stayed overnight on special occasions and can thoroughly recommend doing that too).
A lovely pub / restaurant in the Kent countryside! Excellent food and friendly staff. A couple of log burners and qwerky layout make for a nice cosy atmosphere. Pleasant views out the windows as this place sits perched up above the busy main rd below. Parking on site. Nice rooms and lovely mattress. Location is decent but the surrounding countryside is a bit disappointing and there aren't any other pubs nearby at all. Would definitely go back for a meal but only if someone else drove.
Part of a trio of pubs. Kings arms, The tiger and Marquis. Very friendly staff. Nicely done up. Food was delicious, feels pricey but I can't keep up with inflation. Only negative was service seemed to grind to a halt when the pub got busy
Lovely old pub/inn and very pleasant staff. We stayed 2 nights with half board. The room was fairly quiet - tucked back from the road - and there is a nice patio area at the back with umbrellas. The food was varied. Rating is due to shower that wouldn’t drain properly and non-working toilet for both days - even though we asked for both to be fixed after the first night.
We went to celebrate our anniversary!! The overall setting was lovely and the food good. Service however did not match. We asked our waitress about ordering a nice bottle of rose. She had no clue about wine and said she would send someone else over. The manager came to the table and we discussed different options. We asked questions and settled on a bottle. He arrived back at the table with what looked like white wine and then just opened it. Neither my wife nor me liked the chosen wine. We were told the bottle is now open and could not be returned. The waiter just left. On the bottle it said white wine ?? Absolutely shocking service. Waited 20 minutes at the end of the meal to pay the bill. Got up and went to the bar on the way out to pay. Shame as was really looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time. It will be the last!!
Nice environment and good service. But I had the pad thai which was edible but exceptionally salty, as agreed with a fellow diner who had the same. My partner had the pork belly which was also far too salty. Wont be coming back in the near future.
Our anniversary meal not great I'm sorry to say. We have eaten here several times and always found the quality of food and service to be of a high standard. The last two visits things seem to be changing. On the13th Feb we had a meal food was very good usual except my wife seem to wait for her main coarse quite I while after mine had been served. Also I was two thirds the way through eating my main coarse before my wine turned up. We returned with our daughter and son in law on our anniversary 27th Feb. This time service very good as usual but the food not up to scratch. My daughter had mac and cheese this being ok but not great. I had featherblade of beef. Unfortunately this was mainly gristle and inedible, also the gravy that came with it was very thick and gloopy. My desert of apple crumble was very sharp and the creme anglise quite thin. The beef was removed from the bill after asking. I hope this is not the start of the slippery slope that so many restaurants fall into. I must say that The Marquis of Granby has been brilliant in the past few years. I hope this was just a bad night and we will be going back.
Only dined so unable to comment on the rooms. Full disclosure that when the booking was made, we were advised it was for two-hours only. Greeted well by a friendly young waitress when we arrived at 12.30pm. As we were early, we ordered drinks at the bar. Unfortunately the Harveys was off – hadn’t been tapped was the excuse given. There was no other choice of real ale. We all were seated ready to order by our 1pm slot. Bottle of wine ordered. Food - delicious. Starters - three scotch eggs which were pronounced very good, and one whipped feta. Latter was vegan, which I'm not, so wrong choice on my part as it missed some of the depth of flavour. But that's just personal. We ordered a second bottle of wine to go with our main course, which we had to go and chase up as it was forgotten. Quite a wait between these two courses, but at the time that was ok. We then had a Sunday roast each - three pork and one beef. I'm particular about my beef and I couldn't fault it. Perfectly pink. Vegetables delicious. Finally - we were looking forward to a desert and coffee, so when the waiter/manager came to our table we were ready to order. However, he told us quite bluntly that the table was now needed and we needed to leave straight away. We pointed out that the service had been quite slow, which was blamed on someone being ill - was possibly a stroke? Terrible if so. There was no suggestion that we could order coffees to have in the bar/snug area – where there was room, just that we needed to leave. And sadly we now were disinclined to spend any further money. A waitress then came through with the bill, which was just over £300. In conclusion. Great food, but having been told we needed to leave swiftly afterwards we certainly won't return and certainly won't recommend it. Perhaps a little reminder during the meal that we were approaching our two-hour time slot would have prevented any bad feeling.
Unacceptable! New Year’s Day dinner was extremely poor. Drinks and food were slow; over an hour passed before bread and olives arrived. When food eventually came, it was dry and overcooked. The restaurant did not seem busy, so delays felt unjustified. Starters were not cleared before mains were placed haphazardly on the table. My child's food looked awful (see photo), nowhere near worth the money. Staff then refused to honour a January dining discount, citing the bank holiday, despite no written exclusion on their coupon. Unprofessional service and substandard food.
Four of us booked a table on Bank Holiday Monday and checked it was for the BBQ. When we arrived there were no tables available outside and we had to sit inside away from the BBQ. There was a special menu for the day. One option chosen was for a bratwurst with curry sauce - what was served was 2 pork sausages in a roll and no curry sauce Two of use chose sirloin steak with caramelised onions and Dijon mustard mayonnaise. What was served was a small overcooked steak without onions or mayonnaise. Luckily the fourth person did get what was ordered. There was supposed to be live music but if there was we would not have heard it from inside and when we left there was no sign of any music at all. I did complain and got a fairly minimal discount off the “bratwurst” and steaks. We would definitely not go back or recommend to anyone else.
