Opinions de Annapurna Indian Cuisine Del Mar
It’s a pure vegetarian restaurant, and as the name Annapurna, it truly reflects authentic Indian cuisine. I was specifically looking for an Indian restaurant for breakfast, and this place turned out to be a great find. They offer very good breakfast combo options before 11.00am, which are both convenient and value for money. We tried the Medu Vada, and it was absolutely delicious. The vadas were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, served fresh and hot. The taste was authentic and satisfying—exactly what you expect from a good South Indian breakfast. 😋😋 Overall, a nice place for Indian vegetarian breakfast with good quality food and decent combo choices. I would definitely recommend it for anyone craving authentic Indian vegetarian dishes.
Let me start this by saying that this was our best South Indian food (Dosa) experience in US in last 20 yrs in this country. Our hosts Shiva and Amy were excellent. They went out of the way to accommodate my request for Paneer Tikka for breakfast which usually is their lunch/dinner item. And boy, that paneer tikka was right on the money - juicy, spicy, and well cooked. Dosas were very good accompanied with 4 types of sauces. Taste was excellent. Overall a great experience for my family.
We visited for brunch and had an excellent experience. The restaurant serves some of the best South Indian food we have had. Every dish was flavorful and authentic, and the overall quality of the food was outstanding. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere truly made us feel as though we were back in India. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine. ❤️
My first time at Annapurna Bhavan, with a friend who’s very familiar with this style of vegetarian Indian cuisine, far more than myself. I had Masala Dosa and a coffee, my buddy had a breakfast “Combo 3” with 2 Idly and 1 Medu, which comes with coffee or tea. We were there for breakfast, which I think is unusual from my Indian restaurant experience, but I like it, it’s a great way to start the day! The food was SO delicious. Subtly spiced and flavorful, very fresh-made per your order. The atmosphere is nice and new, beautifully and tastefully done, with wonderful colorful photographs, comfortable banquet seating and chairs. Quiet conversations and meditative, easy-going Indian classical style and easy-going music, really setting a feel-good atmosphere, and what I prefer. The music matches the classic food style. I live half a block away, I’m happy to report, because Annapurna Bhavan is wonderful and I’ll be going back, and bringing friends to share the experience.
Amazing food, great service! So happy that it was an ALL Vegetarian restaurant with so many food options including South and North Indian foods 🤩 Portions sizes were amazing and the taste was spectacular. So excited to have been able to found this gem! It’s pretty small but service is so quick that you wouldn’t really have to wait long! Ambience is also cute and cozy! I was so happy to see a vegetarian Indian food place pop up in Hell’s Kitchen. I’ve already been here 4 times, and I’m smitten. The food is delicious. All of the bold flavors and spice one would expect from Indian cuisine. You can always ask for things less spicy is that is your thing. The staff is attentive and the restaurant is quaint and clean. The prices are a little high, but it’s a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, so that is to be expected. I live in Jackson Heights where I can get Indian food at quite reasonable prices, but when I’m in Manhattan…this is a fantastic option. It’s best if you are coming with a few people and can eat family style. As a single diner it is a little tricky because I want to taste it all. They do have Thalis (platter) that are reasonable especially for dinner. The menu is 10 pages, so there are so many items to explore. Most dishes can be made VEGAN, and there are VEGAN options already on the menu.
Walked in at prime lunch time and was lucky to get a table. A few familiar faces as soon as we walked in, only to realize our friends from Sarvanah had started this place. Our best wishes with Siva, Avinash, and their entire team in this exciting journey! We ordered Mini Ghee Idly ($11.99), Ghee Roast Dosa ($15.99), Pondicherry Masala Dosa ($16.99), and Filter Coffee. Everything was fantastic, less starchy, and balanced to perfection. Their chutney's were amazing, not runny at all. Service was super quick, and dosas arrived within 7-mins of ordering. Food was brought out as it got ready. Idly's were steaming hot and had a very authentic taste to it and sambar was not runny and easy on the stomach! Music could use some attention or improvement. Will be our go-to place going forward. We wish the team much success and will highly recommend this place to friends and family!
First time at this place, visiting from Florida. I chose this place due to the great reviews online and it was spot on. Service was great. My sister and I were unsure of what to get and the waiter made sure we got dishes catered to our likes and spice level. We left full and delighted and will def visit again. Whether you are vegetarian or not, I def recommend this place. You will not miss the meat I promise lol. Very filling and flavorful!
The very first spoon took me straight back to Tirumala. For a moment, I forgot I was in New York. The food had that soulful, Annapurna-like comfort—simple, authentic, and deeply satisfying. We ordered a South Indian family-style spread with idli, dosa, and a spicy fry, and every bite was delicious. Chef Siva personally spoke with us at the end, and Chiku, who served us, was incredibly sweet and patient throughout. The ambience added beautifully to the experience—warm, calm, and welcoming. There was truly nothing to fault. It was lovely to see so many non-Indians enjoying the food just as much as we were—true South Indian flavors being shared with everyone. A memorable experience and food made with heart.
An excellent restaurant. I would really recommend this to Indians as it is very authentic and the food is usually even better than authentic Indian food. The service is quick and all fresh made. The best part of the restaurant is the atmosphere with Hindi Bhajans and pooja going on. Best food I would recommend is the dosas and the white coconut chutney.
My dad is a South Indian chef himself, and he usually doesn't enjoy food from other restaurants because he can easily notice the taste and quality. But for the first time, I saw him truly enjoying the food at Annapurna Bhavan. He loved the chutneys, sambar, dosas, and even the chai — everything tasted authentic and comforting. During our New York trip, we thought we would really miss home food, but visiting Annapurna Bhavan completely changed that feeling. Thank you for giving us such a homely and satisfying experience.
We had idli, vada, masala dosa, thali and filter coffee. I must say the idli and the chutneys were one of the best I have ever had. The idlis were soft and melted in your mouth. Vada was crunchy and flavorful. The dosa was soft and had it crunchy areas. The potato masala was unique, one of the kind! The thali was made with fresh ingredients. Customer service was exceptional great! Highly recommend for a variety of vegetarian food. Must go for vegetarians!!!
Best South Indian food. Very authentic. I got their kaima idli and onion rava masala dosa and both of them tasted really good. The dosa was crispy and the masala was tasty as it should be. Filter coffee was great too.
We went there for early lunch after our 8 days cruise and the experience was excellent. The ambience was authentic and welcoming. Food was 10/10 and service was really fast. Masala tea was very good. All the chutneys with dosas were awesome and up to the mark. I can go there again when I visit New York for sure.
Came here for dinner last night and had an amazing time! The staff is great and the food is awesome. Highly recommend this restaurant for their authentic South Indian dishes. I love a good chili, cheese and onion dosa and this place is perfect for it. Also, be sure to get the coffee after your meal for a perfect ending.
Yesterday on google maps I saw this South Indian restaurant and it immediately caught my attention and today I went in and I was blown away: I ordered the paneer masala dosa and it was the best dosa I ate outside of Chennai (South India), I almost cried how good it was. I was planning to read kindle but I could not take my eyes off the plate enjoying the taste and the view, it was just too good. Halwa for desert it was also amazing! Will definitely come back for breakfast to try some vadas!
The taste of the food has really blown my heart. We ordered. I had dosa and crispy Beed fry. The most amazing thing was the way they served and the love & care they put in preparing the dishes because it was so nice. The grand finale was pineapple 🍍 floured halwa. Mouth watering delicious and this is the best vegetarian food I had in New York. Highly recommend. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you Shiva and the team 🙏
We tried South Indian cuisine for the first time and it was absolutely delicious—far beyond our expectations! The masala dosa was particularly impressive. Our server Chiku was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We can't wait to come back!
This is the best southern Indian restaurant in US. I stopped trying Dosa idly and Uttapam in US as I got tired of getting disappointed each time . We were in NYC and this new restaurant had great reviews in google . So we thought we would give this a try . It was so amazing, delicious food , from the taste of the dosa batter to the chutneys and even the Dal , it was so good . Service was at a whole different level, this kind of kind and welcoming professionalism is not seen at any Indian restaurant in US. I am not exaggerating, anyone can come and check this out. This is for real the best South Indian food experience I had in United States in my almost 30 years here

My experience at this restaurant was absolutely perfect. The food was awesome , specially South Indian Thali which is full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was the best and the staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel truly welcome. The atmosphere was calm, clean, and pleasantly quiet, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Every detail was handled with care, and I left completely satisfied. A flawless dining experience. I’ll definitely visit again!

DELICIOUS!! I have been looking for a vegetarian Indian restaurant like this since my all-time favorite (Ayurveda Cafe) closed two years ago. An overwhelming large menu of dishes from various Indians regions (dosas and curries and bajji and everything you can think of)! Choosing what to order was nearly impossible. Turns out it didn’t matter because every item we got was flavorful and delightful to eat. To start we got vegetable samosas (properly packed with potatoes, peas, and spices), onion bajji (sweet and salty little nests of fried shredded onions), and gobi 65 (essentially chickpea-battered cauliflower wings with a sweet and spicy sauce). These were gobbled up by everyone so quickly I only got a photo of the gobi 65! Entrees were equally loved. Two different dosas were huge and accompanied by spiced and flavorful dips and acoutremont. A soy-based tiki dish was enjoyed as was a panneer one. My favorite by far and what I came for was a thali dinner. Though not explicitly vegan on the menu you can ask for any of the Thalis to be made vegan (which they do by substituting double veggie dishes for the raita and other dairy items). I got the North Indian one which was such an obscenely huge amount of food I got a second meal Out of it! Each item, from the dal to the various mixed veggies to the okra to the green beans was full of flavor and satisfying heat and textures. The breads (2 different ones) were great for dipping and the rice was plentiful enough to be a bed for each dish. They even brought complimentary carrot halwa for dessert (not vegan but my dining mates loved it). Highly recommend! Great service and very reasonable prices, particularly for midtown. Cannot wait to Return and try more items!
This was such a good spot. The ghee Dosa was some of the best that I’ve had. It was thin, crispy, but with enough give to be folded so I could scoop up the potato filing and chutney. The texture was like a crispy, buttery crepe, and it beautifully combined with the chutneys. The yellow daal was also very yummy. The spices were well layered and the texture was nice too. It smoothly poured on the rice and the tadka, topped it off with a nice burst of aroma and taste to the already rich daal. You can’t go wrong here! The Rava Kesari was so good. It’s a warm semolina pudding that is saffron flavored and sweet but not overly so because of the ghee. It’s a just what a dessert should be!
One of the best pure veg restaurants in my eyes in NYC! Friendly staff however at times absent to tend to the customers (we waited for napkins and silverware for a while). Despite that, I still gave it a 5 star due to the service, flavor of the food and portion size. Highly recommend this restaurant.
This place like haven for Indian food .Whenever you get a chance to go to New York, definitely eat Indian food there. When the snow falls, I will definitely go eat onion bhajiya with green chillies. Don’t miss. And His staff and people there will make you feel like you are in India and they will serve you with a smile. I am very grateful to Avinash. The biggest thing is this is PURE VEGETARIAN restaurant. IN MANHATTAN NYC
Great spot in Hell’s Kitchen for Southern Indian food! The Kotu Parotha is my favorite and they did it really well — flavorful, nicely spiced, and satisfying. The paneer dish with rice was also very good, and the chaat samosa is definitely worth trying. The place has a good vibe, friendly service, and even a clean bathroom, which is always a plus. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Everything is fresh and delicious with options you'll never find anywhere else. Highly recommend Kashmiri Naan with crushed cashew, pistachio, coconut, dates and almonds as I've never found it everywhere else. Video of mushroom Tikka and picture of King Masala Dosa.
Annapurna Bhavan is perfectly located—especially since it’s one of the very few pure vegetarian Indian restaurants near Times Square, which already makes it a standout. The food, however, is what truly steals the show. Everything we tried was absolutely out of the world. The rasam idly was comforting and flavorful, and the dosai was crisp, fresh, and done just right. What really surprised me was the blueberry kesari—an unexpected twist that worked beautifully. It tasted excellent and was a delightful end to the meal. If you’re around Times Square and craving authentic South Indian vegetarian food, this place is a must-visit.
Excellent Food. After long time had very good veg food. Especially Kids enjoyed the food and tasted many new items. Service was also good..too much crowd due to Christmas but it was worth for the waiting period..Highly recommended. Try Keema Idly, Coconut Dosa, Panner Tikka and Payasam...All Chutney were excellent
Very good food. Seeing many ‘locals’ there was very reassuring that the food must be authentic. Ordered the South Indian thali (platter) and it did not disappoint. More on the spicy side but I don’t mind. But for ‘white’ customers, might be too spicy. Service was a bit erratic but they remained friendly and professional.
What a treat to have such authentic Indian flavours in the heart of Manhattan! Both the South Indian and North Indian dishes were impeccable, and I will certainly be eating here again and again to fulfil my cravings for real Indian food. We had the Rava Onion Dosa (my favorite dish of the night) , Malai Soya Chaap (a close second), Malai Kofta and Onion Kulcha, as well as a complimentary payasam.
The food at this Indian restaurant was absolutely delicious. Every dish was full of authentic flavors and cooked perfectly. Compliments to the chef for maintaining such great taste and quality. However, the service was quite disappointing. The staff seemed uninterested and their behavior came across as rude at times. It took a long time to get basic assistance, which affected the overall dining experience. Great food, but the service definitely needs improvement.
