My wife and I were just walking around Del Mar and wanted to something to split, hungry but not super hungry. We chose this place cause we were sure they had pizza and they did! The place itself is real nice, with tons of seating. They have outside seating, indoor, seating, indoor seating with a deck which is what we were on. It was beautiful and we got to watch the sunset. The service was very good, our server was a nice guy and didn’t rush us at all. The pizza was very good, definitely a good thing to split. Prices are honestly pretty average for an italian place, especially in this location. Definitely would choose this place over North Itlia anyday. Pizza was 20 bucks, and got waters so the bill was just about 20 bucks. Overall a really good experience and we’ll be sure to be back.

We tried Il Fornaio, Del Mar for our daughter’s 16th birthday and had a wonderful experience. The servers were so pleasant, drinks, food and desert were stunning. We can’t wait to go back!

The spot is great for a cozy Italian dinner with a beautiful view of the ocean. The minestrone soup was pretty tasty. The pasta was fresh and well-made. And the tiramisu was creamy and sweet. The servers were nice and professional, and the atmosphere was great! I would definitely recommend visiting this place for a nice dinner date if you’re craving some good Italian food in Del Mar area.

Amazing restaurant with wonderful ambiance, delicious food and beautiful views! We went there for our anniversary dinner date and the staff was extremely nice, and accommodating to our needs since we had a toddler. The bruschetta was delicious, the pasta was so well made and the dessert was perfect! We had the specials dessert - the chocolate mousse and it was superb. My husband had made reservations in advance and they even decorated our table. We forgot to take a lot of pictures of the food because it looked tooo good and we started eating it right away lol. Highly highly recommend to everyone!

Stopped by dinner around Christmas time. Very busy and bubbly time due to some Christmas parties. Food was fine service was good to great. Will have to try it when not too busy. Nice view for sunset dinner.

Review from a European: More American than Italian Really loved the service. I came in with a baby so was a little nervous but a young lady looked after me wonderfully! The food was so-so. Had pizza and lovely wine. The diavolo style pizza was American style with lots of hot sauce all over it (which I had to remove with napkins 😅) but I enjoyed it anyway. Great service, but probably wouldn’t rush back for the food. Super if you like American style :)

Great location with a ridiculous view of the sunset. Definitely more foo-foo than traditional Italian dishes, but they're fantastic and if impeccable quality. Service was top notch with a smile, and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Will not be back. I enjoy the food, the service, and the atmosphere. There is a service charge of 3% to "give the employees benefits." This is BS. Those charges are part of doing business, same as rent and salaries. It is meant as a ploy to make the restaurant look good about how they care about their employees If not, why don't they put the percentage down for unemployment taxes, SSN taxes, etc. Just increase the price by .25 and be done with the fake caring. Sorry.

We went with friends to celebrate a birthday. Two of us ordered one of the specials the lobster & shrimp with a brandy cream sauce. Unfortunately the lobster was chewy so either it was a bit old or overcooked. I thought the brandy cream sauce would be more of a white sauce. It had a red sauce that wasn’t special. I didn’t say anything since I didn’t want to ruin the party but the special was $50 and I should have ordered something else. We drove from over an hour away so not worth it for the food. The view was great & waiter good.

Busy, noisy, average food. I simply was not impressed by the food, by the portions and by the tastes. I heard a lot about the place before going, so I was expecting something extraordinary but we end up with average taste food. The pizza and the sales were good as well as the grill but nothing above average. The place was very noisy due to the set up of windows a low ceiling in the outside room

Worst parking. Avoid happy hour on weekends. The parking structure was a shit show. First they require a credit card to enter the parking. On exit they didn't tell us how much the charge was. Restaurant doesn't validate parking. Food was decent except the bread pudding. Corkage fee was only $25. They do charge 3% still for eating there. No espresso machine.

We made a reservation to celebrate my mom’s birthday, and the staff and service were excellent. Everyone was kind and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We visit the Coronado location quite often and expected the same quality here in Del Mar, but it didn’t come close. I ordered the beef in wine sauce, and the meat was bland and a bit cold. The lasagna, on the other hand, was very hot on the outside but completely cold on the inside, almost as if it had been pre made and just reheated in a microwave. It also had no real meat flavor, it mostly tasted like mushrooms. We didn’t want to say anything at the moment since it was a birthday celebration and we didn’t want to ruin it, but honestly, no one at our table was happy with their meal. Hopefully things improve, because we really enjoy Il Fornaio in general but we probably won’t be coming back to this location anytime soon.

Title: Disappointing Experience - Rude Staff, Subpar Food Rating: 1/5 stars I recently visited Il Forno Delmar, expecting a delicious Italian meal. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown from start to finish. The wait staff was rude and unprofessional, seemingly put off by our presence. When I politely asked for a refill on my drink, I was met with a dismissive attitude and a long wait. The food was equally disappointing. I ordered the pasta dish, which arrived dry and stale. The flavors were unbalanced, and the portion was small considering the price. I was expecting a rich, savory sauce, but what I got was a bland, uninspired mess. To top it off, the wait staff seemed completely uninterested in our experience, failing to check in or ask how our meal was. When I expressed my disappointment to the server, I was met with a shrug and a lack of concern. Overall, my experience at Il Forno Delmar was subpar. With so many great Italian restaurants in the area, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money on this one. Unless they revamp their staff and menu, I won't be returning.

There were 7 of us celebrating a birthday, then the food came out. Out of 7 only two liked their dishes! My dish was terrible, the pasta (linguini) was not cooked correctly, a lot was stuck together in clumps and hard . The scallops were mushy with no taste .Dont order a tasteless meal.
