Friday night about 7: and we got right in. Place had a good crowd, but the service was good and the food was out quickly. We sat in the bar area, but there were a couple of tables available in the dining room too. Food was good and so were our drinks. Waitress took good care of us and was always there when we needed her to be.
Service and food were great, our waitress was attentive and helpful. The side is rice and beans were so so, not the biggest deal breaker but could use more flavor. Overall enjoyed our experience and will come back.
Ordered to go after a busy morning of medical appointments in Denton. It was wonderful. Fed everyone lunch so we could continue with our day.
Called ahead that a table of 13 was coming and they had it ready with a server waiting for us. The manager Krystal was also very attentive and made sure we were all good. Would go back again for sure.
We love stopping in here for a quick lunch or dinner. Food is always good, but the staff here is especially phenomenal. It is rare these days to see an entire group of servers be this happy, helpful, and conscientious with each other and with their customers, especially mid-lunch rush. We see you and we appreciate you, OTB crew!
We absolutely love the food here. Our server was Kyle and he went above and beyond to give us great service. We dined in twice this week and our food always came out hot and fresh! Can't wait to come back.
We had Jeffrey and seriously, he’s the absolute best. We were almost ran off by a wait time in an absolutely empty restaurant but it’s hard to find service and we understand that. Thank gosh we stayed. Jeffrey was phenomenal, seriously and after working 12+ hours. The manager, was seen bussing tables and bringing our food out and helping her staff prep the bar etc. seriously amazing. And the food was beyond perfect. I’d pay almost $150 for what we just got for <$25. Best service we’ve had since COVID. Thank you. I hope Poor Jeffrey got his casserole after that long day.
We ordered catering for work and they knocked it out of the park! The food was delicious, our delivery man, James, was so gracious and helpful setting out the food, and he even brought each employee coupons. It is single-handedly the best food delivery we have ever had. Thank you, OTB!
Seated immediately. Waited almost 10 minutes before a waitress was sent to our table. Emma was great. Food was delicious. Appetizer plates were dirty but we didn't need them so it wasn't a deal breaker.
I went there for an ad I saw that was actually a few years old, had a good laugh and ordered the biggest margarita I could. I then chugged it in under a minute and tipped well. Weird atmosphere but I was entertained and that's all that matters
Our server Nicole was very friendly as well as up beat. She does her job well. Keep up the great work Nicole. Best of luck in school. Keep ur head up stay focused.
Skip the wait! We had a great meal here while at the resturant next door People stood around. Why? And It's a nice atmosphere you can hear your conversations without having to shout.
Great staff. The food was exceptional. It looks like they improved on the salsa. It tasted great before, but looks darker and somehow tastes better.
Pleasantly surprised after not going to On the Border for a long time, the food was flavorful and service was fast and friendly
They've updated many of their items, merging with Pappa's I think. Can't wait to see what changes are in store. Salsa was the bomb.
My wife and I called in an order of fajitas for pickup and some sides. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the manager was very accommodating. We will definitely be back soon.
Food was fresh, I like the new chips and hot salsa. The salsa was hot(temperature wise) I think they roast the peppers before making the salsa now. It tastes homemade now.
OTB has always been a good go to restaurant. But this new menu is not your grandmothers on the border they have really invested in stepping their menu game up by including all kind of great food items....like Birra tacos, more grilled fajita options...Steak and shrimp and there are even a few healthier food options....and whoever was in charge of the drink items need to kiss...
Harmony gave one of the best service I ever had. She was consistent and didn’t forget about anything I needed. I was comfortable the entire time!!!
I have chosen this restaurant 3 times now since moving to Denton less than a month ago, and they have not disappointed. The first time was from UberEats delivery on our first night here, the second time was with our family that came to visit us while we were getting moved in, and the third time was as a mini-date where we just simply didn’t feel like cooking. Each time, we have tried a different meal and have not been disappointed. Their chips are perfectly crispy and don’t have too much oil or salt. Their chunky salsa is fresh and delicious with just a touch of slow burning heat. Their queso is very satisfying as well. We will continue to be regulars here, and hopefully get to try their margaritas and other cocktails next time we stop in! (Pictured is their Queso Mesquite Chicken).
Food was great as always but Harmony was on top of the service, and super attentive. Definitely coming back!
Great food! Prices very reasonable and quick service. My friend and I enjoyed it very much.
Harmony was a big help. She’s very friendly and social always making sure everyone is included. If you ever get to go here I recommend her as a server.
Excellent food and customer service. Minor issue w my order was brought to the managers attention and he made every effort to make things right and definitely went above and beyond. I appreciate the great service and friendly atmosphere. Fajitas are so good!
Today was the first time we have had OTB since Papas bought it. Wow! The fajitas were phenomenal! The best part of our visit was our server KeKe! The best service I have had in a long time. She was very personable, prompt, upbeat and completely on point! We will drive out to this location next time just for her!
Today was our first time since OTB was bought by the Pappas Company. We went in cautiously, not sure what to expect after reading some recent reviews. Well we were not disappointed. We were actually thrilled with the changes. We love Pappasitos, and were so happy to learn that their salsa is now just like it. The chips were good and thin like we like. The enchiladas, tacos, rice and beans were all delicious. Next time we’ll try the fajitas with their delicious garlic butter, because yes, there will be a next time. Plus we had the sweetest and most helpful waitress Natalie, who set us up with their fabulous salsa and chips to go. If you like Pappasitos, please go try the new OTB out!!
I stopped going to On The Border years ago because it just wasn’t very good. I decided to give it another shot after reading that the Pappas Restaurant Group (the same owners as Pappasito’s) had taken it over — and I’m glad I did. I ordered the $11.99 lunch special with one beef enchilada topped with chili con carne and one chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce. The beef enchilada was well-seasoned, and the shredded chicken was served tinga-style — very flavorful. The rice and beans were excellent, which is something I don’t say lightly. I also had a $6 frozen margarita, and it tasted identical to the Pappasito’s recipe. Even the chips and salsa stood out: thin, fresh chips and a roasted salsa that was served warm. Overall, the food and experience felt very, very similar to Pappasito’s. If you’re a fan of that style, and of fresh scratch made Texmex I’d definitely recommend giving the new On The Border a try - they are using the same recipes.
Great experience on a busy Friday evening. Our server Clay was beyond excellent and took great care of our family of 6 (which can be a headache by itself). We had no wait to be seated and our food was delivered before expected. 12 out of 10 for this location and our server Clay! Thank you!
My husband and I had the new enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious—Our waitress, Sandra, went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She was attentive, friendly, and made the dining experience even better. Great food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be coming back!
And here, I thought there were no more on the borders... I just want to give a shout out to our server from last night. Tristan... He had all his points of service. It made for a really good dinner experience that we weren't expecting. And coming from a retired bartender...... He did a really good job.I was thoroughly impressed. Food was amazing.Atmosphere was amazing.I'm glad I found y'all.I'm gonna be a regular now.
This is our go to spot when going to Oklahoma and we have probably ate here 100 times. The staff is absolutely amazing. The manager Kirstin, Christina, Kristen what ever her name is, is one of the hardest working managers I have ever seen, she really stays on top of things and doesn't mind helping out. That's a true leader. The food here never and I mean never disappoints when I am craving Texmex. We also never sit down and do not have chips and salsa within 5 minutes, food out in under 10. While we do stray on occasion we always find our way back. The best OTB in the metro.
So I came here tonight and I just have to say that the to-go team was hands down THE BEST EVER!! Seriously everyone so kind, so patient, and so beyond helpful! I specifically have to shoutout Jaiden who was an absolute gem. I wish I got everyone's name because they all deserve a shoutout! Anyway, I came here this evening, not knowing exactly what I wanted but I knew I wanted to grab something to go. Jaiden and the other young lady working the to go area helped me create the perfect meal, and they did so with the biggest smiles! The entire interaction totally made my night and I'm so grateful I came in. Also - the food was fantastic!! Even with a 10 minute drive home, everything was still hot and fresh when I got there. I truly hope this location stays open forever. 100000/10 - HIGHLY recommend!!
We were sat quickly in a comfy booth. Our table host was friendly, fast to very efficient! We didn’t really have to wait for anything to long. Drinks to chips, salsa came out promptly. As soon our glasses were down to less than half another drink was brought out. The food was fresh and hot. The salsa was a bit spicy but it worked well.
I had a long and exhausting couple of days and needed a good sit-down meal before I drove home. I picked On the Border because Mexican food sounded good and I always enjoyed visiting my local restaurant. My waiter was nice and helpful. The chips and salsa were excellent, and I'll go one step further... I think On the Border has the best chips and salsa among the chain restaurants. The chips are thick and crisp with a great taste. The salad is absolutely delicious. I ordered the steak fajitas. It came quick and hot. The fajitas had a great taste to them. The peppers were crisp and sweet. Even the beans and rice were good. My set-up had Pico, lettuce, and cheese. I was disappointed that it didn't include guacamole and sour cream. I don't remember if that's a new thing or it's always been that way, but I wish that was part of it. I was starving when I ate here, so take that into account, but this was my best meal at an On the Border ever, and I usually enjoy my meals there.

We arrived at 7:30pm and had a 30 minute wait. Once seats were placed our drink and food order. Or waiter did not tell us he was leaving for the night. But we were there past close and they were super friendly about it. They never said anything to us, until I asked what time they close since we were one of the few left in the restaurant. To which she explained they closed 20 mins prior to us asking.
Loved the updated menu. The food was very good. Loved the flour tortillas and garlic butter that came with the fajitas.
Decent food but bartender looks like she hates her job. Never asked my girlfriend for a refill and seems to happen every time we go here, she always gets bad service. EDIT. We have gotten better service lately. They did some switching and the bar and patio service is much better now.
I love the tacos at On the Border. In fact, I won't order them anywhere else. This was my first time at the Denton location, and it is definitely one of the chain's best. The server was excellent and yet had been on the job for only a few days. Tacos were spectacular, as always. My only problem was that a waitress from another table, while passing through kept asking me, "How are you doing, Chicky?" I didn't know what to make of it, but I just didn't like it and thought it was rude. Otherwise. I had a perfect lunch.
Food ok , wasn't hot it tastes cool almost warm. I wished they had fried ice-cream that would be a great add to their desert menu.
Been coming here for years and years. This was the very best experience we’ve ever had. Lacy our server, and all of the staff were so amazing. The manager, Bobby, stopped by, truly was just from beginning to end, amazing. Found out it’s under new ownership. Definitely will be coming here more often as long as they keep this up!
Our server Keith was pretty good. He let us know how long our food would take and when our drinks would be ready. He did get busy with a couple of tables so I went o the bar and grabbed our margaritas. We got the Liberty margaritas and they were tasty. They were also on sale for only $6 so it was a good deal. We shared a plate of enchiladas that I enjoyed. My mom thought the cheese was a weird consistency. The chips and salsa were awesome. Keith comp'd one of our drink since I had to go to the bar. I'm glad we missed the lunch crowd but still got the lunch menu as it's available until 4p weekdays. I would recommend and will be a repeat customer.

Had tacos Al Carbon, white liquid cheese threw me for a loop but it was pretty tasty. Also, Queso Enchiladas were good as well. Service was good too. Good experience all in all!

The place is well kept with clean restrooms and friendly wait staff. The meat or chicken ordered is great, but the rice and beans lack flavor. The salsa is okay and the chips are a good add to the salsa. Tables were clean as well and the exterior of the building with it bright colors. I had the fajitas with shrimp. The corn tortillas dried up after I ate my first taco. The shrimp was good but again the beans and rice lacked flavor. The water and tea were both good. The sauted veggies with onions was also good. No salt or pepper on the tables but brought to your table upon request.
Took us over 1.5 hours to eat... food was served warm at best. Amazing chips and salsa... but, you gotta do better for the meal
Visited On the Border for Taco Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised by the affordable margaritas and tasty food. The highlight was undoubtedly the exceptional service from the bartender, who was attentive and personable. However, I couldn’t help but notice the lack of energy and patrons, which detracted from the overall dining experience. This place used to buzz with excitement, and it’s disheartening to see such a change. Despite this, the quality of food and service gives me hope. I sincerely wish for On the Border to rediscover its charm and become a bustling hotspot once again.
Prices have gone up considerably. While grocery prices climb so too does the cost of eating out. Food was okay. The beef enchilada was tasteless but spicy. The crunchy beef taco was good. My wife was uninspired by her dish. Service was good. Place was practically empty.
This is only like my second time eating at a Mexican restaurant. The food appetizer(jumbo shrimp) was really good. My wife and daughter food was good to from what they told me. My problem was the service. I ordered a steak and I asked my server if the chef would slice the steak for me and she said yes. When the food came the steak wasn't sliced and the waitress said they forgot. She came back a few minutes later and asked me if she could take it in the kitchen to get sliced. I politely told her it was okay but if she had asked me when I first mentioned it to her then I would've said okay. As patron, I dont feel as if I need to ask for napkins and a refill. A good waiter notice when my drink is empty and comes and ask. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time we went. So we asked for napkins and she brought us 3 napkins. I got up and got napkins for my family and I.
This visit wasn't as good as normal. Drinks, chips and salsa was quick but food took a while to get to us. My wife and I order simple stuff, we have Tortilla Soup and Brisket Tacos. 10, maybe 15mins max for it to get to us. Our food took over 30mins. Double the time and we are filling up on chips and salsa so we aren't wanting our food. Server dropped food off then only checked on us 1 maybe 2 times. Other servers were refilling our drinks and seeing if we needed anything. Really disappointed.
Lack of knowledge of menu at a chain restaurant is lazy. Unfortunately our server was just that - lazy and slow. Food was fine --- it's an acceptable low tier chain restaurant. Nothing outstanding to expect.
The service was efficient and friendly. The food simply was not what I remembered from On the Border years ago. Just average.
The service was efficient and friendly. The food simply was not what I remembered from On the Border years ago. Just average.
The food is always good but the service is consistently bad. The host didn’t say a word to us just jerked her head in a direction and expected to us to follow. The food was great no complaints. Once food was dropped off our sever checked on with us once then disappeared for 40 minutes we finished our food and drinks and waited 20+ minutes for the server to return to we could ask for our check. This was not our first time coming and having a server that was sub par. Definitely ordering to go if I eat here again in the future.
First time here. We loved our waiter Jayden!!! Give him a raise📣 They didn’t have any drink we asked for but he made the situation funny and It was because of him that we stayed (we usually go somewhere else if we have this horrible bad start), he was so friendly and had a great attitude. The food was good
We obviously made a bad choice in choosing this restaurant. Floors and tables were dirty, orders were horribly slow coming out of the kitchen and weren't cooked properly. Margaritas were small and watered down. Much better choices in the local area.
Service was good, the food was not to my liking. I had the lunch combo: Chicken Taco, chicken enchilada, with beans and rice. Meal could have been hotter, The beans did not have any seasoning except salt, and the rice tasted like it was boxed El Paso rice. On the Border needs to do better.
The food was good but my daughter did receive a strawberry that had mold on it. When I brought it to the servers attention they said it was just the way the strawberry was shaped. And all they did was offer to bring me more strawberries. It was clearly mold so instead of making a big deal because it was her birthday I paid and left. I will not be returning.
Update, May 7, 2025. Had to lower my rating from 4 down to . Not sure what happened, this place used to be really good! Shared the sampler appetizer with a friend of mine. The steak quesadilla along with the steak nachos on this plate was God awful. Meat tasted like an old, dirty sponge, consistency & all. The margarita was good, but this app was revolting. Skip it if you visit!💯💯💯💯
I came here last night with my dad to do the $10 endless tacos. The service I will say was pretty good. Our waiter got everything out very efficiently and was very friendly. But the downside is, I got food poisoning from the tacos. I’m currently still not feeling well, but I’d advise you guys to not only here but anywhere…please check your food before eating it. It may look like everything is fine, but just be sure so you can have a better experience than I did. I even took the tacos home and was going to eat them for lunch, but after my eventful morning, I never did. Food poisoning sucks.
This must be what having TexMex in New England is like. The salsa was watery, I think the memory of spice was in the next room, the rice just barely undercooked yet gummy and flavorless, there were tomatoes on it for some reason, the new refried bean recipe was shockingly bad, I get better consistency from a can. I ordered cheese enchiladas with chile con carne, there was no little jalapeño rings— probably deemed to be too spicy, idk. Our server was awesome so I was not comfortable complaining to him but we were sure to leave a good tip since he’ll be out of the job soon. The $6 margarita was nice. I hope Pappasitos’ group is happy with whatever bum deal they made. What’s worse than all of it is that I went a few weeks ago for my birthday, no one said it’d be the last time I’d ever have my familiar favorites. The price of chasing profits instead of sustainability really is here, isn’t it?
They took so long to bring out our food. We were served chips from another table, 3 full grown adults given one bowl of cold Salsa chips from one table over. Smh. There was another table who came in as 2 full grown adults and a baby, and even they had 2 hot chips sent their way. The dinning experience was so bad, they forgot to bring back my debit card after i had finished paying for our meal. I had brought my dad over for his birthday and this experience was truly horrible. I don't give bad reviews, even the bare minimum service makes me smile. But this was just not good in any way. I hope they change and treat everyone equally. Also, their serving sizes are small. Just an fyi

My friend and I were feeling miserable with the current world events and wanted to eat at a restaurant that would reflect how we were feeling so naturally we ate at the worst restaurant in Denton. Food was terrible as expected and we split 1 appetizer and 1 entree and somehow both spent 25 dollars. It was exactly as miserable as I hoped and may god bless any poor soul who actually chooses to eat here for unironic purposes.
I asked for no sour cream and you put extra sour cream all over my guacamole, my cheese, pico de gallo, and my salad. Then, I couldn't eat any of those because sour cream makes me sick. All you needed to do is to not add sour cream. You really didn't have to be so rude and careless.
This used to be mine and my husband's favorite restaurant for beef fajita nachos, but after today's visit I don't think we will be back. We were there right when they opened for lunch. Maybe the 3rd table to be sat. Ordered our favorite nachos and when they came out it looked like the meat was leftover from the night before. Very hard and dry. This really sucks because my husband was not a fan of Tex Mex food and after I took him to this location he loved the food.
We sat on the patio twenty minutes and no server ever showed up. We had chips and salsa, menus, and silverware given by the hostess. No water was offered. I went in to address the issue and the hostess said she would get someone. Five minutes later, still no server so we left and the hostess just smiled as we were leaving.
The staff was very rude. I ordered the birria tacos and they came out and we’re not traditional. I pointed that out and the waitress tried very hard not to argue but still made comments. In the end I just asked to switch my meal. Not a big deal at all. From then on the service was absolutely terrible. I will admit that the staff I encountered were very young, however I was very unimpressed. Will not be returning and very disappointed. Will just make the trip to Lewisville next time we’re in the mood for On the Boarder.
We came in a 12:30, nobody was at the front to seat us so after waiting a reasonable amount of time we sat ourselves in the bar. After the bartender looked at us several times and didn't serve us, we got up and went next door to eat. I've been a server/ bartender for 25+ years. The entire staff should not be in the kitchen during the middle of lunch hours.
All ways to order online weren’t working. Called in and was placed on hold for 5+ minutes before taking my order. Arrived at the time I was told, called inside, and no one came out for 10+ minutes. I went inside, wasn’t greeted, then eventually got my food. The portions were pitiful (especially the queso) and the food was mediocre, at best. Chips were inedible (super stale). We won’t be returning. Sad to see a favorite go so far downhill.
Customer service is ok! This place is not clean at all, it has bugs, floors and tables are sticky with food stuck on the table and it has a bad smell! Also there was a long wait for food. Then when my food arrives I start to eat and I discovered a long blonde hair in my food! I will not waste my time going here again!
Great service but terrible management. I went to have lunch and was seated at a booth. We ordered our food and received our drinks, and shortly after, my mom and I discovered ants crawling on our seats and table. We didn't cause a scene, but we did alert our waitress, and she moved us to another table shortly after. When we had finished our food, the waitress handed us our receipt and told us that the manager only took a discount on the strawberry daiquiri we had ordered. We immediately asked to speak to the manager, and after my mother had told her, not only did we leave the drink at the ant-ridden table, but she barely touched it. Knowing we weren't about to pay for something we didn't have, the manager responded snarkily. "I understand your situation, but ants are not something I can control." She did remove the drink afterward, but I did not appreciate how she talked to us when we were more than kind about the situation. The waitress and the hostess were great, but I wouldn't return to this location again.
I asked for no peppers and it tastes like they double up on the spicy hot crap. My tres leches was not even close to any tres leches I have had before. Even my husband hate it I would definitely go to Qudoba before coming here again. Thank goodness I got a 10% discount because I was in the hotel nextdoor.
I sat and was immediately rushed through my meal or lack there of because when our order was taken my friend was asked what he wanted and I told the waitress I need a moment and she said ok and walked off before I could interject.and my friend received his food before I even ordered. We were then given the check 10 minutes later and rushed out of the restaurant from seat to out the door it was 45 minutes. Abysmal service I will never be back. Oh and the food was OK at best.
When in to eat. Got a table and no one came to say anything to me, bring chips and salsa or drink order for 15 minutes. I got up and left....
Took a bit before a server came to take our order.. The food came out subpar, It either had no salt or too salty.Customer service sucked very bad! As if that is not enough, when it was time to pay, the waitress brought the receipt alright but left the card behind. One thing I know for sure, I ain't coming back.
The food here is good but the service absolutely sucks. Ive gone twice now within a week and both times was charged other people's food. The first was one dish not that bad they took off my bill and refunded me. The second time I was charged almost a hundred dollars ontop of my bill cause they charged my card to a complete different table. Double what my bill was. The managers response to this was well wish there was something I could do but I cant.
I will never go back, the new chips and salsa is absolutely disappointing and nothing like the old that made OTB what it is…..never stepping a foot in another unless they bring the old chips and salsa back. We left after tasting the new salsa did not even stay
The food was good until a roach started crawling on my table. They didn’t even refund me my whole ticket. I don’t think I’ll be returning honestly.
We went to On The Border in Denton last night because Texas Road House was packed and the wait was 45 minutes. We like OTB too. The service was very good but we noticed the menu was different and the chips and salsa were totally different. I also noticed the prices are higher. Much higher. I ordered beef fajitas. My wife ordered chicken and my son has a steak quesadilla. My food looked great but the meat tasted old. It had a weird aftertaste. The chicken looked good but also didn’t taste right. When we got home my wife wasn’t feeling good and I had stomach cramps.
Employees are more interested in socializing with each other than helping customers. As slow as they were when I went there, I should’ve had great service to try and have me to come back. Not sure what the food is like yet. I’ve been here an hour and still no food.
This place was decent until it got bought out by the group that owns pappasito’s. Food quality and salsa has completely changed for the worse. Our waitress was great and said the new salsa and queso were “improved” versions of the former, but you could immediately tell it was a lower quality version of the original. Bummer to see it happen. It now has the feel of a restaurant that was bought by a private equity firm. So long on the border…
Everything was full of grease. The breading on stuffed jalapeños looked double fried/old. My son's soft tacos were soggy and dripping from so much grease. He even pointed out that his rice and beans were greasy. Same for my daughter's quesadillas and french fries. The honey chipotle shrimp tacos had 3 small shrimp and the tortilla was super greasy. The only thing that gotten eaten was my chicken tortilla soup. My 9 year old said "mom this food horrible." Server was great but we won't be back.
My coworker and I went there for lunch and server sat us in the corner then forgot about us. Two more servers passed us by and said hi but never stopped so we ended up leaving after 35 min and only ate the chips with salsa so needless to say I will definitely not go there again. Upon leaving I caught the attention of the manager and he apologized. Funny thing is they weren't full of customers and had enough servers to accommodate everyone.
