Opinions de Sushi Mike's Dobbs Ferry
My family has been eating at Sushi Mikes for many years. We think it is the best sushi in Westchester County. Mike and his team provide great service as well as great food.
My wife and I have gone here for over a year now. Their selection of fish and sushi is beyond words to describe. Fresh, delicious and simple yet beautiful plating. Very good pricing too considering the quality of food and fish you get here. You will not be disappointed.
I order Sushi Mike’s every Saturday for dinner and I’m never disappointed. I always order the miso soup, spicy tuna roll, salmon/avocado roll, and a California roll. Every single order is packed perfect and it always includes chop sticks, utensils, soy sauce, wasabi, and napkins- amazing attention to detail! I highly recommend this restaurant if you appreciate quality and service.
Got a bunch of rolls to share. Everything tasted really fresh and they had some fun and unique rolls to choose from! They have beer, wine, and sake or you can bring your own - there's a pretty steep cooking fee though.
Great food, great service. Be sure to ask about the specials. Had a scallop dish on special which was AMAZING. The standard menu is great as well. Outdoor seating is a bit off-level, but cozy for a party of four.
I love Sushi Mike's. They have some of the freshest sushi around, some outstanding special rolls (I love the Salmon fever), and delicious shrimp shumai (spell check?) They can be a little on the expensive side, but I do think you get what you pay for. I would love to see them expand, perhaps, adding a few more specialty rolls to the menu!
This is the best sushi you're going to find in the area. Fish is always fresh. The owner is a very friendly guy and seems to always be there. Staff is very attentive. Lunch box special is usually pretty decent (other stuff is probably more then you want to pay for lunch).
Update: Mike reached out in regards to review and invited us to come back and try again. I've since been back or ordered at home 4 times. Each time the food has been as good as we expected from our other visits. Very happy to report that the below review was a one off. Will definitely be going back. So every other time I've been here, the food and the service has been spectacular. Last night though was just no go from end to end. We didnt actually get glasses of water till half our meal was over and we asked for them. Even then it was another waitress (who we had to ask after our original still didnt bring) that brought them for us. The food was also not very good this time. The chicken fried rice which is usually my favorite just tasted like it might have been left under the warmer for too long. The rice was almost crunchy to chew and very oily. The sushi (flying dutchman) that we usually get was also not great. It had a large amount of mayo and so messed with the balance of everything else and completly over powered it.
When sashimi tastes fresh on a Sunday evening, you know you're at the right place. IMO, one of the top 3 in the area. Pricey, and sometimes incredibly busy, but well worth it. Run, don't walk.
Better then most sushi places in the city, in fact, I would have to say that this is the best sushi I've had in my life. Great service! People that work there provide a warm, and welcoming environment. I'm really looking forward to my next visit.
Great and the customer service is amazing. I actually would like to come and dine-in because they're so welcoming and it's cozy. Their seafood is fresh, you can tell they are paying attention to quality and look...anyone that smiles and is kind, you're already halfway there. I'll get pics when I dine-in.
One of the best sushi spots in Westchester but they really need to get fresher ginger. Sometimes it tastes like soap. Otherwise, love the food and order from here often!
Very good did take out. Did not disappoint
The best sushi in Westchester when it comes to the quality for the price. Crispy rice roll is one of our favorite appetizers.
This place is a hidden gem..the avocado rolls are the best I have ever had..the salmon teriyaki is amazing. My parents really love the soup..we enjoy going here regularly. Mike and Michelle are amazing
This place never disappoints me. The food is always amazing and well presented and the servers work really hard and try to make your experience pleasant. This place is always busy and it is a small establishment and I'm a big person so I always feel bad taking a four person table when there is only two of us but it is more comfortable. I barely fit in the bathroom, not because I'm tall, tall folks won't have a problem, I'm only 5'4 but because I'm obese but they are very clean.
Delicious sushi. Popular place for take out. We ate inside for my son's 10th birthday dinner. We came previously when we were house hunting and it was good before. It was excellent this time. I was impressed with both the food and the staff. For a place that was getting bombarded by demand, they sure seemed to be enjoying the hustle. Way to work it!
Sushi Mike's is one of my favorite sushi spots in the NYC/Westchester County area. Always fresh, always friendly and a great menu. In my opinion you will love this place as much as I do and if you're looking to try a new sushi restaurant then it will be worth you're while to visit them.
Came here for our first time and we went for the Omakase! Great variety and very fresh fish! Had an awesome conversation with the owner, Mike and our waitress. We'll definitely be back for more!
Have known Mike for the last 25 years. He hasn't been changed at all as a restaurant, and his foods are just awesome all the time. Love to see this restaurant is there with a happy spirit and a healthy menu. Just wish I could enjoy Mike's sushi as long as possible! Thank you, Mike!
My boo and I went to sushi mikes for a nice second dinner after tacos. The urchin sashimi is gross, but the rest was delish! My man enjoyed the fried rice and I liked the dumpling soup! Can’t go wrong with plum wine. Great service and nice outdoor seating!
Sushi Mike's is our favorite sushi spot in Westchester. The menu is full and varied, omakase is top notch, and the quality and freshness never disappoints. Service is always excellent. We picked up dinner tonight and ate it so quickly I forgot to take pictures. #fullandsatisfied
Very good quality sushi , nice flavor on rolls and hand rolls, hamachi Kama was excellent
We are regulars here and love it! Best sushi in the Rivertowns!
It’s happening at Mikes. Teriyaki, sushi, dumplings, we loved our dinner here
Delicious and fresh. Friendly staff. Been going to Mikes for over 25 years!
This was a pickup order. The rolls fried rice miso soup and oysters were all delicious.
This is one of the best sushi spots in Westchester. This is a no frills restaurant, but the sushi is beyond!!!! So fresh!!!! I also really love their spicy fried rice and the vegetable gyoza. They are always busy and take out orders are insane! Love it! There is a small parking lot on the side.
We love the Nebayaki Udon and the sushi. We're regulars and will keep coming.
Amazing food! The only sushi that I will eat, in westchester. Always quality fish, fresh, and prepared beautifully. Mostly a take out restaurant, but lovely for a casual night out
Great place for sushi. Service felt slightly rushed, but over all a great place for sushi. Fish is fresh and delicious.
Long time favorite.. Sorry I live a bit to far away now.
Good things come to those who wait. Quality every single time. Be patient
The best sushi in Westchester, hands down
Food is always delicious and the staff super friendly. So happy this is our local Sushi place :)
Lower the Sinatra music, Mike, play Kitaro instead! Also, pls add sukiyaki to the kitchen dishes. There is only one place in Hartsdale that offers a mediocre version, sadly... Food here is great, so is service. Any of the maki rolls, nigiri, etc., can't go wrong. The fish tank alone is worth the visit! _______________________________________________________________ Sushi Mike's Restaurant is da bomb! Forget about the Mystic Aquarium, Mike's got fish in his tank that haven't yet been discovered by the ichthyologists. Delicious, nutritios, sustainable and free range! Not to mention, just enough mercury and kryptonite for two Supermen. Run, dont walk, and judge for yourself. Any questions? I'LL BE BACK!
Excellent quality fish. Perfect amount of rice. Delightful simple maki rolls for a quick takeout.
The sushi was great and the staff was really friendly. Will definitely go again.
While the server didn't seem overly enthusiastic that we were dining there, the food was absolutely incredible. I'm not even a big sushi person and I wanted to keep eating. I also expected the bill to be much higher but considering how full we were, it was worth every penny. I'll definitely visit again.
Mikes is without doubt the finest Japanese restaurant in Westchester and beyond. Since day 1 it has never faltered and keeps getting better!
Everything always tastes fresh and delicious, and I am always happy to see Mike's.smiling face when I go.in.
Yummy food, great service, fun vibe if eating in the restaurant. Perfect for pickup or delivery getting order correct!
Hands down the BEST sushi in westchester county. The sushi is always fresh and beautifully plated. The service is outstanding! Sunny is especially wonderful. A must-go-to spot!
Takeout order. Everything was great but they forgot the spoons for the soups we ordered. The restaurant was very busy but that is no excuse - they could still take a moment or two to check the accuracy of take out orders.
A must come to! We were in for an event and Mikes was on our list to stop. I’m so glad we did. The town was so cute, and the restaurant was even cuter! The sushi was very good and fresh. Would absolutely recommend!
The food was fantastic! Very unusual selection, delicious and obviously high quality, and it all arrived pretty quickly. We sat near the chefs and had a wonderful, relaxed dining experience. There were many other items we would love to try if we ever get here again (we live far upstate), but we loved everything we tried! The abalone sashimi was a real standout for us and well worth the cost!
I arrived as a walk in and was greeted immediately. Once I said how many, I looked at the tables and saw that it was basically full and expected to have some wait time or get changed to outdoor seating. Instead I was happily surprised the server was just looking at the tables to see which ones they would be able to separate for me. I personally ordered a S&S roll and a bottle of ‘CHOKARA delicious and fruity’ for the table. The drink and the sides were the first thing we received with our first round poured for us in soju cups.i don’t typically like the taste of alcohol but this one was easy to bear and we were able to finish the whole bottle with our meal leaving one last toast at the end. Though the service was friendly and attentive our final toast was a bit ruined for me as the server lightly tossed the check presenter at the table which caused my glass to spill. The server immediately walked away as their job was done but with no napkins left(as we only had one for each person) a little mess was unfortunately left. I recommend anyone have my order but especially try the miso soup as it was very easy, deliciously simple and the perfect temperature that lasted our foods wait time.
The pork dumplings and the spicy Tuna and spicy shrimp sushi was great. We especially recommend the tempura ice cream and the tempura green tea cheesecake! Edit: 10/1/2021 Our cravings striked today and we got this review response on the way to the restaurant! We decided to get the pork Dumplings, spicy Tuna, salmon skin, sweet potato, salmon tempura, and S&S roll which were all delicious. And we're about to order the tempura chocolate ice cream and the tempura green tea cheesecake! This Friday night couldn't be better! Can't wait to try the omakase one day!
Sushi Mike’s is my favorite sushi restaurant in Westchester and of its kind anywhere. It’s the perfect spot for creative rolls that stick primarily to traditional Japanese ingredients—think multiple types of fish, seaweed, and tobiko, but no strawberry in your roll. The fish quality is great, the complimentary green tea is delicious, and the odd sea themed mural will make you smile. I’ve been coming here for more than a decade and try to stop by every time I am in Westchester! Don’t miss the Fuzzy Yellowtail Roll and the Fantastic Roll!
Best sushi place I've been. Atmosphere is a little run down which is the minus part of one star, but otherwise the service was outstanding, staff was incredibly nice and knowledgeable as well as accommodating and fast. Food was fresh and tasted great! Lots of options. I don't eat seafood so I got the avocado cucumber and sweet potatoe rolls, with soy bean wraps ($2 extra per roll which is only other reason I gave it a true 4 stars was because she didn't tell us the price would be more). Fried rice was not salty and they gave us about a pint. Love the take out containers. Made it easy to eat right there or take and go. We ate outside which is not normal, but they are handling Covid well too! Order any get your order texted when it's ready. Great so that you can hang out or go for a walk and come get your food when ready. Love the technology!
What can I say about sushi Mike's that already hasn't been said in the past. This place has served constant great sushi and Japanese dishes for 25 years. I come here a few times a year every year. I've never had a bad meal here yet. The people who run this place are very efficient and the portions are very fresh and the heats are higher quality than you get another places. My daughter will drive in from Manhattan just to hear
Been multiple times over the years and the food is always been consistent. With living in Japan for three years, I can say that this place has some of the most authentic and best sushi we’ve come across in the US. Only downside is the service can be spotty. Most recent visit had us waiting almost 15 min just to order drinks and apps after being seated.
I used to love it here. Now I only like it. I'll be fair and give it a 4 star rating because perhaps my tastes are just changing. I don't really crave sushi much anymore. Dobbs doesn't have many gluten free options for a quick bite so I always end up here when I'm in town and my blood sugar plummets! 😂 The staff is always nice, the food is always fresh, they are gluten free knowledgeable and they offer gluten free soy sauce. I think I'll try to eat in next time instead of on the run.
Food was good and service was fast. It may seem overpriced, however some entrees come with soup and rice. The mural on the wall was beautiful and there was something for everyone. Beef teriyaki was more medium when I asked for medium rare, but was tasty nevertheless. The shrimp dumplings were also good. They don’t take discover
Pretty solid sushi spot. The sushi was fresh and tasty. Our server was nice. The atmosphere was great. We had a bottle of wine with our sushi and before we were done with out meal the staff started to clean up and put some chairs on the tables. Some of them were even outside just waiting for us to leave. It wasn't past their closing time if I remember right. They never rushed us or anything, but it was really odd to me lol
Very cute and quaint place. Food was amazing. Small so in the winter time depending on where you're sitting you will feel the chill every time that door is opened. In the fall, spring or summer it must be amazing. They do not take reservations for under four so it's not like you can choose better seats. It is a first come first serve basis. The place is always full as the food is absolutely amazing and very quaint. It's definitely a local favorite.
Outsource delivery to Uber Eats so delivery times are massively inaccurate and always late by 20-30 minutes. Not great for hot food. Amazing that all the other sushi restaurants in the rivertowns can employ their own delivery people who are generally on time but Mike can't. Such an easy fix.
Food is good but take out from this place is a real nightmare - no one seems to be in charge and people wait around for a long time to get pickup orders. I’m not really sure why they haven’t improved this after all this time. Do not dare try them on a busy night - you’ll never see your good and no one will apologize or crack a smile
I came to Sushi Mike's because I had some business in Dobbs Ferry. There is paid parking all around and strip of spaces adjacent to the restaurant. I dined at around 4:15 pm on a Saturday; I was 1 of two parties dining and another party came in as I left. I only tried one roll and it was incredibly tasty. I did find the prices to be high for me, but I don't have anything else in the area to compare it too. I can say the dining area seemed clean and once the servers gave me the menu they were pretty attentive. I think if I was back in the area I would try it again. Either way, tasty good, clean restaurant, fine service.
Listed as the best sushi in Westchester.....it's not. It's average to above average but so are the prices and because of it's popularity, this place is very crowded and I don't know if you can make a reservation. I eat sushi pretty much once a week and have eaten at plenty of places in Westchester, Manhattan, and other boroughs. I'm pretty critical of my sushi spots so I would say this place is good but when other factors are taken in consideration it averages out.
We went in late to eat Tonkatsu Noodle Soup, on a cold night. The food was good along with the service. But the place wasn't too clean, to our tastes as there was litter all over the floor. We feel that if they focus on this issue, they will gather 5 stars always.
The food was quite good, even if somewhat more or differently seasoned than our go-to neighborhood location. The restaurant was very family-friendly, which is a plus for people seeking to share their experience with young children. The service was not particularly attentive. My wife asked two servers for more water multiple times; she is still waiting for it. Update:. Thanks for responding. Clearly your is a restaurant that cares about customer feedback and satisfaction.
There were 3 of us. We were seated at a small table. The place was very packed and basically the chair behind me is Right behind me kind of packed. I ordered sushi dinner which tastes really fresh and yummy. Other 2 peeps ordered katsu over rice dinner. My daughter thinks the chicken has no taste. I thought it tastes meh. We also ordered soft shells cab which was great and seaweed salad which is pretty much straight from a box, tastes fine, nothing special. They have good selections of wine, sparkling wines and soda. Our waitress is very awkward and weired, not friendly at all. She acts like she doesn't even want to take our orders. I ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and 99.99% restaurant would open the bottle or at least offer to open it. She just plop the bottle down and walked away. Definately not a good experience in terms of service here from her. Food quality is mix as milk food was good and some were not so good.
Good quality sashimi. But presentation is too much. Some twigs and leaves on plate. Making it look bigger. Meh… just give me sashimi and that is all. No decorations. Looks cheap. I felt like I was a tourist getting ripped off.
Man, it kills me to write this review. Sushi Mikes used to be our favorite. A neighborhood gem. Mike would buy the freshest fish and sell it at reasonable prices. Sure, that atmosphere was nothing special but every trip to Mikes was special because Mike was a character and the fish was delicious. When we lived in Westchester, it was our go to. Oh have things have changed (for the worse). We’ve since moved up to CT but decided to make the journey back to sushi Mikes. First thing that was weird - no Mike and half empty on a Saturday night. Mike used to preside over a packed house every weekend. Second clue that something was amiss - I asked our server if, given the season, the soft shell crab was fresh. She looked at me like I was crazy and told me no, it’s frozen. Went downhill from there. All The fish - Just tasted not fresh at all. What a total bummer. To go from someplace totally special to just an so so neighborhood sushi place in Westchester. Sad. :(
Just an average to below average spot.. I don’t get the hype. The special rolls are only decent because of excessive amounts of sauces.. none of the rolls had any texture to them (we tried an assortment of 6 special rolls). Smaller portions than expected. Service was underwhelming.. they seemed overwhelmed though. Usually don’t give bad reviews but I came from rockland looking for better sushi and this place was on a top 10 list which leaves me wondering who makes these lists..
Service was slow. Dining room is so dark I had to use my flashlight. It’s freezing in here. Not coming back.
Avoid Friday night even with the takeout. Their app says ready in 20 minutes when it is over an hour with ten hungry people milling around the register and no clues when the order will be ready.
Way too expensive and far to get fish that was definitely not fresh; mush texture and little flavor. This was not our first visit but was our last. Wrote a review on Yelp but they didn’t dain to comment and apologize. Additionally there was a small boy with a wet cough at a long dinner with an outside cake who got me sick. They should’ve been seated outside or offered a mask.
New owner?? Ordered $250 party platter for 6 adults! Over priced & NOT impressed! Kinda made my party look VERY bad! Won’t be ordering from here again! Will go to authentic Japanese restaurant that’s further away but probably worth the drive! I ordered from here Bc of time crunch & convenience? My friends who tried pre-pandemic said it was good but something happened after the pandemic! I’ve been eating sushi for 30 + yrs but this is the 1st time I’m leaving a bad review Bc I don’t want ppl to waste time & money! I’ve had better sushi @ Shoprite which is kinda bad! Didn’t get variety of sashimi (just white & red tuna), had raw shrimp (which most restaurants don’t serve on take out platter) & avocado used on the rolls were black!
Got delivery from here today and I’m still hungry. I understand it’s an expensive area but $9 for their 4oz chicken skewer appetizer is a complete joke. $22 for their Naturo sushi roll(5 pieces of sushi). It wasn’t like the food tasted amazing to make up for the lack of food or to justify the price. When I called to complain they told me they feel bad, that’s it. Well I feel bad for deciding sushi mike. I get more bang for my buck at any other near by sushi place.
The portions are too small for your high prices. The beef was tough and chewy, the veg nabeyaki had three little broccoli florets, two un-deveined snow peas and a bit of onion, a hand full of noodles. And on top you have the nerve to add a 20% tip by default for a pick up order. Highly dissatisfied. First time, last time
TL;DR: Go somewhere else if you value any sort of customer service... I have really fond memories of Sushi Mike's as a kid growing up in the area, but an impromptu visit today to try and takeout a late lunch was a major disappointment in the service department. I placed an order off the lunch special menu, which was taken brusquely by the woman at the front table. She brought me the check, and I'm glad I double-checked before paying, as there was suddenly a 25% increase in the cost! I asked, and she said she had charged me for the dinner equivalency of the order since they were no longer serving off the lunch menu. It was 2:45pm when I walked in; lunch is, according to their menu and website, served from 12:00pm-3:00pm. Last I checked, 2:45pm is within the 12-3pm window, but what do I know? At the very least, if they decided to end their lunch service early, the bare minimum would be to let me know when I walked in and requested a menu, no? In any case, no apology for the confusion or for the bait-and-switch on pricing, and no attempt to make it right (surely, if one of my customers was operating under an impression about the price of my goods or services, I would make an effort to match it if the reason for the differential was my own fault). Just a very blunt reiteration of the fact that they were not serving lunch. So I left, went to one of their competitors, got the identical order for a dollar less than what their lunch special was supposed to cost, and was treated respectfully by people who appeared to actually be interested in my business. And the food was great. If my memory of their food exceeds the reality of their service, the food here is pretty solid — not exactly Nobu, but decent, reliable food. But it's not worth the hassle of dealing with terrible customer service, especially when there are so many other great sushi options in Dobbs Ferry and Hastings.
The food may be good, but we were told that was there would only be five minute wait. We asked the hostess why we weren't seated after a half hour of waiting and she told us that she couldn't find us. We were waiting with several other patrons on their bench outside. They had no problem finding other customers waiting in the same place. When the staff was informed that they passed us over, they made no attempt to find us a table, instead opting to just ignore our existence.
This place used to be awesome, I don’t know what happened. But for starters they got the order completely wrong. I asked for extra soy sauce and spicy mayo (I’m happy to pay for it), and they did not add it in. When I went to pick it up I literally had to fight for extra soy sauce and spicy mayo. And on top of everything else, the rolls were so sloppily made they fell apart. They are really dropping the ball in this place now a days, and it’s such a shame because they used to be one of my favorite sushi places. I hope they turn it around.
Big disappointment... I stopped by late and tired after work to pick up a $160.00 order my wife placed only to get home and she tell me we're missing part of our order! She called and was told to come get remaining order and some money- reimbursement. I was happy thinking they were doing the right thing since I had to get dressed, drive approximately 15 minutes to the business, return home knowing everyone would finish eating whatever food was previously brought home! When I went there to pick up the food, the woman played dumb saying she could only give me the food or the money back. She offered me some seaweed nonsense she had sitting on the counter! I told her I was annoyed that due to their negligence my dinner and Friday evening was now ruined... needless to say I opted for the food begrudgingly and vowed to boycott the business. You can't mess up an order and expect someone drive back and not be compensated for the inconvenience! What did the restaurant learn from messing up the order? Not a thing... I got home and the wife/kids were practically done. I was too annoyed to eat Sushi Mike's!
Insanely rude people that seem to be satisfied with the level of success they procured. You walk in, no attention given and basically told you need to make a reservation. I call and then im told they accept walk ins and hang up. Not exactly sure how common it is and if people just turn the other cheek to this but I get more customer service at a cheap sushi joint than here. Absolutely never coming here and recommending others to do the same. Until they learn how to treat people who are coming here to try it out.
I've usually enjoyed everything at this place for nearly the past 2 decades. They used to have a house special fried rice but I no longer see it on the menu. Ordered the shrimp fried rice. Could not be more disappointed. This used to be a good dish. Now they've skimped on all of the ingredients. Not a garnish in sight either: it used to have sesame seeds. The little vegetables that were in this dish were awful. The shrimp was horrible, in fact, I would say it ruined the dish with a pungent cat food aroma but the rice itself tasted so bad... so not sure what was worse. Can't say if it's the result of inflation, but this place just isn't what it used to be.
I ordered food for delivery at 4:40 knowing we need to feed the kids at 5:30!! Initially it said 55 min which was WHY we ordered at 4:40. The food arrived late closer to 6:00 and was not hot!! Not is ONLY a 16 min drive to our home and if they can’t provide accurate delivery times they should not offer delivery from the Sushi Mikes Web site. We DID NOT ORDER WITH UBER EATS OR ANY THIRD PARTY! Horrible service.and food!
My girlfriend ordered food from here, takeout, and I got so disgustingly sick within 2 hours of eating the roll she got I was on the bathroom floor next to the toilet throwing up. I had to go to a hospital to get iv fluids and anti nausea pills to make it stop. This is the second time this has happened at this location. So Now I know it’s there food or how they store and or handle the seafood and vegetables. my craps have had a weird consistency since too. I think I got a parasite. This place is seriously poor quality. Avoid at all cost.
I am sorry to say this but Mike’s employees are very rude. Not only that when I entered there was no space to walk because the waiter was standing in the way, but he didn’t move and said sorry to me and was keep doing what he was doing with very little space for me to squeeze and rub against him as I had to pick up my order. When I went again and sat down, the chair was stinky and had gum under the table. Also I gave them another chance and they were rude at the cash exchange I don’t even want to get into detail about. I am done. I will definitely tell everyone who wants to go here to choose sushi Niji. Food is alright but the service is not, so if you want to have people who look down on you to serve you, than this is where to go.
Not sure how it has come to this stage that I have to say service is now awful with ignorance and minimal communications, the whole place is understaffed and also seem to more focus on take-out rather than dine in (however take-out experience is pretty bad with small portions and not great fish quality either). I would not recommend going to this place again, with or without kids.
Cramped, awkward interior with steps down into "dining room". Difficult to enjoy dinner in a really unattractive room. Went to use restroom before leaving, opened the unlocked door of the gender neutral restroom to one of the sushi chefs urinating! He quickly turned, pushed his way out past me without hand washing! Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! Will never go back to this ugly place!
I’m honestly disappointed with how this sushi restaurant has gone downhill. It used to be a spot I really enjoyed, but now that they seem to have plenty of customers, the quality has dropped noticeably. I ordered the soft shell crab, and when the plate came out, I only saw two small pieces. When I asked if it was supposed to be the whole crab, the server tried to count fried yam and mushrooms as if they were the crab. That was red flag number one. Next, I ordered the chirashi deluxe because I was told it included uni (sea urchin) and salmon for a few extra dollars. When the plate arrived, the fish didn’t look fresh, and the uni had such a strong, unpleasant smell that it was honestly inedible. The server insisted that was “normal,” but her reaction said otherwise. When the chef admitted the entire box of uni smelled the same, that was red flag number two. To make matters worse, the glass I was given had a chip on the rim—something that could have easily caused an injury if I hadn’t noticed. Food quality and safety should never be compromised, especially in a sushi restaurant. Sadly, this place no longer shows the care or pride it once had. I won’t be coming back.
I dont know how to feel about this. This place used to be amazing.... unfortunately now that they have the clientele they are cutting corners or worse.... I ordered soft crab, when the plate came there were 2 pieces of crab. Confused i asked if it was suppose to be the whole crab, the server decided to count the pieces. She must have thought i was blind, as she started counting fried yam and mushroom as the crab. I said that was incorrect and opened in half the yam and mushroom. She brought a new plate, when i requested for the crab not to be cut she said the chef had already diced it. Red flag number one. I also ordered chirashi. When asked what was the difference between it and the delux, i was told sea urchin and salmon fish. For about 5$ more i decided on the delux. Now about this plate, the fish looked sketchy and i decided to smell the uni, boy o boy! The smell alone would put someone in ER! i asked the server if she could smell the uni, she said thats how it was suppose to smell, however her face and nose betrayed her. As she walked to the chef, he said the whole box smelled the same ...red flag number two. He asked me if I wanted him to open a new box. This told me all i needed to hear. I am not here to tell you to have integrity on what you serve, but if you are willing to poison me i will take my money to an establishment that takes a bit more pride in what they serve. The last thing that shows they dont care about their patrons was the chipped glass. I could have cut my hand while drinking if i wasnt paying attention.
