Opinions de Taburro Durango
Such a great spot. Love the lamb burger. Pretty much everything I’ve had there has been exceptional. Great mixed drinks and non alcoholic drinks as well. Great service. My wife and I make it in anytime we swing through Durango for date night.
We are not local, but we visiting this place every time we are in Durango! Service is excellent! Food always on top! Try their chicken lollipops and baked Brie as an appetizer! Try their salmon... it will send you to the moon and back! Highly recommend this place to everyone who visit this mountain gym! Thank you guys!
This is the best restaurant in town. We spent 10 days visiting Durango, went out to eat half of the time. There are definitely many strong places to eat, but this is our favorite. The menu had many items that looked good. I went with the server's recommendations on everything, and she did not disappoint. We had interactions with several different staff members throughout the busy night, and everything was positive. I also like that El Moro is open much later than every other restaurant in town. We prefer a later dinner, no rush, and maybe a nightcap. We will definitely go back.
Roberto and happy were literally a breath of fresh air they are wonderful amazing and kind they are the best bartenders here will be back
This place was fantastic! I had the smoked salmon, just great. Has a great steampunk vibe to it. Staff is awesome. Got there just after opening for breakfast and it filled up quickly. Not to mention a good Bloody Mary.
We spent the morning at Mesa Verde and were looking for lunch somewhere in Durango afterwards. We found El Moro and are so glad! Everything was amazing from the food to service to ambiance. We started with their bone marrow appetizer, served with an amazing herbal green sauce and capers. My boyfriend asked for an IPA recommendation and was very impressed by their selection. I got a modified blackberry gin cocktail that I will be trying to recreate at home. Grace was our server, and she did a great job. She was super knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with all of our requests. You could tell the whole staff was working together to make things a great experience for all of their guests. For lunch I had the hot Tennessee chicken sandwich - the best either of us had ever tried - and my boyfriend had the ramen. We were both thoroughly impressed and have found a new favorite spot in Durango. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend El Moro for lunch, dinner, drinks, or snacks. Everything was delicious!!!
The most memorable meal we had traveling from Colorado Springs to Telluride to Pagosa Springs. Food was just incredible. Had the octopus and bone marrow.
Cocktails were on point and the service was excellent. Our waiter was Thomas. We informed him of what our preferences are and his recommendations were spot on. He was very attentive. The cocktails were perfect- not too sweet and great flavor combinations. I got the True Romance. The ambiance is great- I loved the exposed brick and the decor.
The Firefly is delicious! The Southside was smooth and went down way too easy. we had the Bulgogi, ultra tender sirloin on top of risotto with a side of baby bok choi and black sesame seeds in spicy drizzle w/ microgreens. Wow, very pleasing! Great wait staff & friendly service. Our friends had the shrimp & grits and the lamb burger and were pleased with their meals too.
We got the scotch egg and the Jose. The scotch egg was prepared perfectly and everything I wanted and remembered. The aioli was a delicious addition and the presentation was great. The Jose was incredible, great textures from the polenta and the tots, and great heat(spicy) from the chipotle hot sauce. The creamy decadence from the sauce paired with thpe sour, spicy chipotle was a great combination. The meals were adequately portioned and totally worth the price for such great quality. No issues with service and the ambiance is nice. The only problem we had is getting in, this place is very popular. I would recommend calling well ahead in the evenings.
Service is amazing went to the bar ordered food had been served at a timely manner order drinks each came out perfect the bartender Sterling made the perfect Whiskey Sour his choice on ingredients was amazing. Over all food and drinks were great would recommend for those who have a specific taste in beverage selection was very vast.
Sunday brunch was incredible. We sat at the bar, Justine, killed it. Great service, great food, and great cocktails, plus 24 ounce Banquets. What more can you ask for?
Awesome place, great food and some kick ass people. The main man Tommy hooked me up with a good food choice and did not let me down. Told you I’d leave a review Tommy!
El Moro has become a Sunday brunch favorite when we are in the area. We usually sit at the bar and get the best service (shout out to Alex...so kind, friendly, genuinely helpful and makes a great Bloody Mary/Michelada!). Every brunch item we've tried has been so good. We are excited to come for dinner next time we are in town.
I am happy and grateful to say that we gave it another chance and everything was fabulous. My guests from out of town loved everything. Octopus was amazing. Green pea risotto was delicious. Burger was back to excellence. Charcuterie board was back to what I expected . Always have loved this place and was so disappointed by the experience previously reviewed. So glad it was a one off . This place has been an all-time favorite. Came in for my birthday and was really excited. Then unfortunately had a terrible experience with almost all of our food. The beet salad was and always has been great. Our server Luke was very helpful and is always awesome but he let the manager know our complaint to when she stepped in she was less than helpful and actually kind of rude to me about my complaint. The steak we ordered medium rare was completely dry and mostly cooked through. The burger was also subpar tonight and it is usually delicious. I only ate half of it, which says something. The fries that came with the steak might as well come out of a bag and they probably did. ( texture and taste were of frozen bagged fries) We got the charcuterie board for an appetizer which is usually one of my favorites. The bread was completely dry.usually it’s delicious and soft focaccia.Only a couple pieces of cheese came with the dish. I hate leaving a bad review for this place because , like I said it’s been an all-time favorite, but I was very unhappy with our food this evening and worried that it might be going downhill. I also felt like the manager didn’t care when I told her about my experience with the dish and so felt like I needed to leave a review here. It just wasn’t the customer service experience I expected there. Hopefully the food quality goes back up because we send a lot of people here from the motel we run in town.
Price matched experience. Steak is really good quality. Appetizers we had mussels and chicken lollipop, solid. Drinks were also really good and service was on par. 5/5
The burrata was exquisite. Followed by a wonderful pan-seared trout! Excellent food and great service.
We were lucky enough to get in this place before the rush! Sat down right away. Good service. Awesome food! Definitely was unique with all the meat and cheese choices. Server recommended some things. Checked on us often. Loved my salmon. My husband loved his steak as well. Very flavorful. Good price for quality. Wasn't large portions which was good because we weren't super full. Nice vice. Hostess was friendly. Would definitely recommend for out of towners!!!
Everything we ordered was delicious. Seating for 6 was plentiful. Wednesday meatloaf sandwich, roasted tomato sandwich, cuban, salmon and daikon salad plus the kids menu was a hit with the kids. Ambience inside for lunch was great - would be even better at night with the mountain tavern atmosphere.
Food is unique and excellent, the service however is dominated by waiters walking around empty handed, empty water glasses and unfilled coffee. Not sure why the fine art of being a waiter is overlooked Not my first time, I live in Durango
We had dinner here last night for my husband’s birthday with our son and the in laws and it was an incredible experience. All of our food was top notch! My husband’s NY strip steak was delicious and my trout was light and flavorful. Drinks were also spectacular across the board. We had Jen and Sierra take care of us and the service they provided was second to none! They were so friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend Moro to anyone visiting Durango! You won’t be disappointed!
Where do I start? Well first off we were greeted by super friendly hosts and the wait staff were all professional and knowledgeable. Ours liked to eat here as a customer before working here. The cocktails are refined and mixed by experts. The food was really great. I had a salad with fresh greens and a complex dressing. The salmon was truly perfect and we folded with a yummy dessert. The atmosphere is casual so don’t obsess about that you wear. The food and experience will rival any high end restaurant.
Oh, **darlings**, gather 'round as I regale you with tales of a truly *exquisite* evening spent at a veritable gem in the rough-hewn wilderness of Durango, Colorado: the divine El Morro! We happened upon this oasis of sophistication, perched ourselves at the bar—because, as one does, *one must*—and were immediately greeted by the dynamic duo of **Happy and James**. Their names, of course, could not be more fitting, as they delivered *utter joy* with every swish of their cocktail shakers and swirl of their bar towels. Now, allow me to paint you a picture of their libations. I, being a woman of refined taste, indulged in the *Welcome to the Jungle*, a cocktail so enchanting, so *delectable*, I could hear the distant roar of untamed wilderness as I sipped. Adam, ever the beer connoisseur, went for the *Mexican Lager*—which, though perhaps a humble choice, was perfectly befitting his rugged charm. Ah, but we’ve already set our sights on the next visit, where the *Coffin Varnish* shall be ours to try. A name like that promises nothing short of dramatic, gothic indulgence. The atmosphere? A delightful *carnival of fun*—oh, such zest and vivacity. And the food! We indulged in the **Burrata**, a dish so intricate and well-executed that one might call it a culinary work of art. Fresh, bold, and simply *divine*. Rest assured, we shall return, for this is no ordinary haunt—oh no, this is an *experience*. Thank you, El Morro, for an unforgettable evening. We shall be back!
Wonderful breakfast spot! Room to breath at the bar and the classic breakfast was delicious!! I also had the green eggs and ham cocktail which was fantastic!
I stumbled across El Moro nearly 4 years ago on a brief overnight in Durango. The food and especially service, thanks to Thomas Wallace was so good that I knew I would be back one day. Thomas spent hours teaching me about spirits and introducing me to new cocktails. He even shared the history about many of the spirits. His passion and skill were top tier! Fast forward to now, an unfortunately Thomas is not presently working at El Moro, but I was fortunate enough to have stayed in touch with him. He connected me with the GM, Mandi and together the two of them helped make my engagement day an unforgettable experience. The food, cocktails and service remain amongst the best I’ve ever experienced. This place will be a staple for us every time we visit Durango! Thank Thomas, Mandi, Paco, Ralph, Greg, Conner and Emerson for your hospitality and incredible service!
This place was truly amazing, which was a big surprise. Did not walk in expecting to get such a great meal. We had three appetizers and two entrées and they were all delicious. It was one of the best meals that we’ve had in a very long time. Our only suggestion is that the fries were served cold with the burger. Strongly recommend checking this place out as everything was so wonderful.
Tony, Tommy, & Tiffany delivered a killer service. Enormous spirits selection including whiskey options that rises up a two story wall. Every restaurant shut down food service @ 9:00 on a Saturday night, but their kitchen remained open till 11:00. So happy I didn’t to have to resort to a grilled cheese or drive through and instead got a 5 star meal. Prices are very reasonable too!
A nice mix of different cultured foods presented in an elevated manner. I had the lamb burger and it was lovely and the next day I had the mojo risin' sandwich with a side salad topped with red wine vinegrette. Their prices are super affordable and the quality is great. They even have a ladder for their booze. You'll just have to go! 😂
Holy cow.. or should I say duck. The duck confiete biscuits and gravy might have been the best savory breakfast I’ve ever had. Then I finished it off with the malted waffles and couldn’t have been happier. Server was fast and kept bringing the coffee and water.
El Moro Alex our waiter was spiffy, love his vibe, vivacious attitude. I loved the green curry mussels. Mhusband ordered the Bologogi, fabulous, loved the bokchoy! Jen and Calso did a great job greeting us and getting our table ready. Ricky walked by with the biggest smile on his face, carrying his favorite dessert to a customer. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Went here for out Valentine's / honeymoon dinner. Had an absolutely wonderful time. The drinks, charcuterie, main courses, and dessert were all amazing. So many unique infusions of flavor. We had the honey burbon salmon, and NY Strip steak. Both of them tasted awesome! Best drinks are coffin varnish, bee's knees, and old fashioned!, Can't wait to come back again the next time we come through!
We were only in Durango for four nights but we ate at El Moro Both nights to end our stay. We had the green curry mussels Both times and they are incredible. Pro Tip: Just order them with extra bread and a couple of side salads – you won’t be disappointed. Pair with the Sauv Blanc. But what really made both visits special were the service by Tiffany and Maris. The entire team at El Moro Is incredible and works so well together. Tiffany and Maris Made both visits special and put it over the top for us. We can’t wait to return when back in Durango. Keep up the great work! - Warm Chard guy, lol. - Jeff
I live in Phoenix and travel through Durango frequently so I have made a habit of trying new restaurants each time I am there. El Moro was fantastic. The service was amazing from start to finish, the food was delicious, and their menu was expansive in both food and drinks. The decor was so well put together and it created a fun and cozy vibe. The bathroom was also super cute and clean. I’ll definitely be back soon, if only just for a drink at the bar.
Burata was great as was the French Chardonnay. Trout could use bit more seasoning and veggies were fresh but be hotter then luke warm. Serving staff is excellent and friendly!
What an excellent little bar and grill. Straight out of the 19th century, you feel like a cowboy's about to walk right through the door. I had the dry age pork chop at the top (second best pork chop I have ever had, in my life). My buddy had the lamb shank...it was very good but pretty under seasoned, however the polenta underneath...mind blowing! Definitely going there for brunch tomorrow!
I always have to go to El Morro every time I'm in town. I LOVE the bar, their drinks are always on point!! Happy one of the bartenders introduced me to my favorite ever drink with the best gin! I also enjoy lunch, dinner, happy hour....but their brunch is outstanding and my favorite of anywhere. This past weekend we had the duck biscuits and gravy and it was soooo good....I wish I could have it all the time! The food and drinks at El Morro is consistently amazing, and I love the atmosphere sitting at the bar, we always have great conversations with other guests and the bartenders!
Ate at the bar and best appetizers for sure. Had the soup/stew and the chicken lollipops and both were amazing. Would happily stop back here when next in Durango. The bartenders had great service and kept the whole atmosphere of the bar fun.
Awesome place. The staff was nice and friendly. I went about 45 minutes before closing. I was able to order, eat my meal and have dessert all before close. The burger was thick and juicy. It hit the spot. Also the French fries we thin and crispy, they were really done well. The desert was pictured in another review and I had to try it. This place I will have to visit again when I return to the area.
Although it’s a tavern, the food is surprisingly good. Pictures in reviews for this restaurant is rather outdated, but the quality seems to live up to its ratings. We ordered El Moro Burger (4.5/5) and Duck Confit (5/5) for brunch. Note that the Duck Confit here is different from the usual French one people knows, but the meat is cooked to perfection paired with an amazing sauce.
Five stars all the way for El Moro - great food, great atmosphere, great service. Highlight of visiting El More is the charcuterie - so many meat and cheese choices it's hard to choose. So I didn't. I asked the bartender to surprise me and her choices were perfect and delicious. If you want a comfortable dining experience with outstanding food, El Moro is your spot.
5 stars for sure! Honestly…best restaurant I’ve ever been to because of the service, food quality and atmosphere and that says a lot! Our server Mandy was excellent and extremely knowledgeable with the menu and giving recommendations. Made our day trip to Durango one to remember for sure!
My fave spot in my new fave town! I love the vibe of Durango and I also love the food and drinks in El Moro! We sat at the bar and got to chat with the staff who made me laugh the entire time. The scotch egg is so yummy and its actually super filling. I got the cold brew iced mocha to drink and it was so good that I actually ordered it twice. My boyfriend got the liquid IV to drink and it came in this cool plastic bag! I 100% am determined to come back to Durango just so I can eat and drink at El Moro!
We just ate dinner at El Moro Spirits and Tavern. My husband had the Lamb Burger which he raved about, before, during and after he ate it! I had the Lemon Orzo with chicken. It was so flavorful and a great blend of flavors. I'm bummed that I forgot to get pictures, but both of our Entrees were amazing, so we bought the kitchen staff a round of drinks! Our waitress was Ky who was absolutely delightful and super helpful! Her sister was on the bar tonight and made me "The Alchemist" which was incredibly tasty and the right touch with my meal. We will gladly go back when visiting Durango as it is a gem! Thank you!
Our last hurrah before leaving Durango and they hit it out of the park! The Scotch was cooked PERFECTLY and tasted even better 😍 My son had the Ramen and it was delicious and incredibly flavorful! I had the Nashville spicy chicken sandwich definitely tasty. I LOVED the theme and decor even down to the details in the bathroom! Staff was so friendly and very attentive!
Loved the vibe, and the people - truly great service. The drinks were very good, as were the appetizers, but I was disappointed in some of the food. The pasta dish I had (Calabrian chili pasta) felt a bit bland to me, and the duck risotto while very flavorful and tasty, was overly salty. The chocolate cake seemed very dry to us as well. We would still come back, and hope the food is better next time!
I loved this place and has always been one of my favorites, but they got rid of the lamburger and it is absolutely devesstating. It was one of thier best dishes and I am in a state of distress. Please bring it back.
Upper end restaurant with an old west atmosphere and very good food. This is definitely gourmet, so if you’re looking for big food, this isn’t the place. However, what you order is delicious. We had the Hanger Steak, Miso Salmon, and a cachuterie plate with a combination of meat and cheeses. This was served with Foccosia and another bread with oil and balsamic vinegar. Our waitress was very personable and attentive but not so much to spoil the meal. For those that at nature conscious, they even have straws made from real straw! Although mostly not authentic, the décor is old west with prints of 1800 Durango adorning the walls. They also lit the place with Edison lights inside of Mason jars as well as cheese grater sconces. The bathrooms were mix of modern accommodations with old exposed copper plumbing. Very eclectic.
Went here with some friends for dinner and drinks. The drinks are spectacular, I would recommend the Colorado mule! Their charcuterie boards are awesome because you can mix and match different cheeses to your liking. Entrees were substantially sized and fairly delicious for a restaurant that’s main focus is drinks. Our server is the reason that it just missed 5 stars, but we still had a great time!
The risotto was amazing. They have gluten and dairy free menu that you can request. Staff was great but drink service was a little slow but I would return if we drive through again
We split the El Moro Burger and fries and we asked for the burger to be cooked medium. The burger was a little undercooked. The burger was seasoned nicely. The fries were done well ahead of the burger and they were barely lukewarm. We received excellent service from the two young gals working the tables in the bar area. We walked 4 blocks from our hotel to the restaurant. I didn’t see their own parking lot. Note: 1. They automatically add a 20% tip to the bill. We almost always tip 20% for descent service. The servers missed out on a higher tip because I was taken back by their policy. 2. I ordered a Sprite and got a refill. I was not told there is no free refills and I did not see this on the menu. I was charge $8 for two Sprites. This added to me not leaving a larger tip. The servers lose out because of questionable policies. 3. I evaluated the food, service and atmosphere on their own merits and these issues did not impact the rating I gave.
We went on a Friday evening. We were seated right away. The fried cauliflower appetizer was very good. The steak frites was cooked perfectly. Duck fat fries were amazing, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Garlic aioli was perfect. Service was a bit lacking. Seemed short staffed. One of our tables entrees was forgotten. Otherwise nice experience. Atmosphere is very nice.
Service was really great. Coffee was topped off consistently and everyone was very friendly. The food was okay. I got the salmon Benedict. Honestly a one and done only because I've had better but if they added some avocado, it would elevate that one. The Mrs. got the huevos ranchero and again, nothing to write home about but still great for some regular brunch. The drinks were great and the coffee was good, and service on point! so that helps cover the food side. Definitely saving to give another shot and try their other menus. Enjoy!
The food was good, presented very well. The portions were a touch less than average, but their various charcuterie boards were priced nicely to make up for it. The waiter was a complete flake, visited us once throughout the meal, offered us free dessert for my wife's birthday, then completely forgot, even after reminding him. We aren't the type to remind someone a third time, so it ends up here.
This place was really good. I also like the atmosphere, there was alot to look at in fixtures and decor. They have a pretty good menu also, which made it very hard to decide. I ended up choosing the Guido Benedict and it was very good. I also order a drink to which the name slips my mind however, it was very good also. This was my 1st time here and definately will not be my last. Service was prompt and waiter was friendly and helpful with recommendations. If you visit Durango, give this place a try.
Being that I am a local I try and keep any negative reviews at bay. However, sometimes constructive criticism is necessary. The restaurants ambiance is top notch. I also love the appetizers and cocktails! However, lately the main dishes have been sub par. I ordered the salmon cooked through and received it medium rare. The risotto was bland as well. The prices have gone up and the food remains lackluster. Positive ending was the ok free dessert I received; only after I asked for it to be comped. Great for drinks and apps, main dishes not so much.
The food is marginal. The green lip mussels are so, so hot. The octopus was rubbery. Inedible. Over rated!
Came for my birthday and was so disappointed. We come to el Moro for special occasions (we don’t go out often) but it’s always been a favorite. Haven’t been since we bought our house 4 years ago. We ordered 3 appetizers (we were there for happy hr) and waited 30 minutes, other tables were getting entrees that arrived after us. We then ordered the trout and bavette steak. Waited another at least 30 minutes. Only to be delivered cold food. We sent it back and waiting another 25, my husband got the same steak which was now very well done. Our server never checked on us. They gave us dessert for my birthday but for a $200 tab, cold food and 2.5 hrs we unfortunately probably won’t be back to an old favorite spot.
We have been coming to el Moro for years. We have been sorely disappointed with the changes in the menu. The traditional menu items were omitted. The food is odd. The food was served cold. Service is still good but we won’t be able to continue to support the brunch.
Is the food at El Moro good enough to make up for the terrible service? No, not in my opinion. One would think that the manager at El Moro would appreciate the extra money being spent in the establishment while we waited for the rest of our party and our reservation time at the bar but the attitude we received proved otherwise. If you are looking for a fun night out with more than five people, find another restaurant. The more people in your party the less excited they are to have you dine with them. The reservations were unable to be processed online and had to call the restaurant to make a reservation, which required a credit card to charge if someone in the party didn't show up is not stated anywhere on the website. Is this only for larger parties or all reservations in general? Our waitress seemed to be enjoying her time even less than we were and was taking it out on us. Would not recommend it.
Really sad to write this review. We’re locals and this place used to be a great to get a really good steak. Came today and paid $100 for two steaks and they were pretty bad, the sauce that came with the steak was very strange. We also ordered fish that was not great also. The service was wonderful as usual. We heard they just changed the chef, big shame.
My husband and I have been coming El Moro for 2 years for brunch and always have been pleased with both the food and cocktail menu. We have been sad to see all of our favorites removed from the menu and lack of items at the bar on weekends. We are sad to leave but we will be finding a different weekend brunch spot. Locals are the ones to keep you open during off-season.
