Opinions de Redwood Diner East Syracuse
Food was good and the people were very nice. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the grill vents. I used to work in food services and cleaning those things is something you can’t cheat.
Best breakfast, hands down! I was in town for a couple days and needed a quick but filling breakfast. This place hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly. Even the other patrons were friendly! We made small talk about books and traveling. Prices are very adorable. Everything you'd expect from a good diner. Right off of 690, it is also very convenient to get to from Syracuse U/University Hospital area. There's parking behind the building and on the street a block up. If you're in the area, stop by and take a little break from the world. You won't regret it.
Classic Diner plenty of table seating in back, BUT you gotta sit at the counter and chat with LOUIE as he cooks across from you. Last Night's Game, Local Regulars or The Weather are commin topics. Loads of Personality and Delicious Food welcomes you to "Come Back Soon".
The place was awesome. The food was great. The place is small. I didn't expect that, but my family fit. The staff was awesome.
The Redwood Diner is the perfect place to go when hungry, especially for breakfast. While the outside could use a bit of sprucing up the inside will bring you back to what and how a diner should look. And the food will keep you coming back again and again. Had the chocolate chip pancakes with sunnyside eggs and bacon that was perfectly prepared. The coffee was brewed to perfection and our server made sure my cup was never empty.
I love these little diners, holes in the wall. Very generous portions, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. I highly recommend this diner, when I'm back in the area, and hungry. I will stop here again! Thank you Leesy (? Spelling)
If you are looking for a classic diner feel with fantastic food, look no further! The Redwood offers some of the best French toast and desserts that I've ever had at a really fantastic and reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
What can I say about the Redwood Diner? And East Syracuse institution for decades! Ever since I was a little boy I remember going to the Redwood. I’m 64 years old. I love the place. The new owner is very cool. He’s a young guy he knows how to cook. They got a great menu. Get over there and check it out. A little piece of East Syracuse history right there on Main Street.
What a fantastic place, good food, great service. Super friendly, great ambiance-felt like I happened upon a hidden gem. Ask for Danielle.
I just tried this place last Saturday and it was a great experience. Our waitress was friendly, fast & efficient. The food was very good—I had a Belgian waffle which was perfectly fluffy inside and toasty on the outside, my friends ordered a Philly cheese steak omelet & the Egg Benedict special. All three of us really enjoyed our meals. This place has been open for a long time, I believe recently (past few years? I’m not really sure) it was taken over by new owners. I also wanted to add that the prices here are very reasonable, definitely cheaper than most other diners in the area. I really liked that your food didn’t automatically come with Hash browns, but you could add that for just a couple bucks. Between the food, staff, and the prices…I’m definitely looking forward to coming back again.
I have lived for three years in East Syracuse and have always wanted to try this peculiar (102 years old!😮) diner! The place is a piece of history. The food 💯 and the service 💯. Definitely coming back!
This is a nostalgic breakfast spot. You don't see many like it anymore. Once I walked in the door I was greeted by the cooks and the server. Even the patrons were cordial and welcoming. They immediately sat me down and served me some hot fresh coffee and a large orange juice. I ordered the hash and eggs, one of my favorites and it came out very shortly after. I've driven past many times but never stopped. I'm happy I did and look forward to trying more from the menu. They're definitely worth a 5 star rating.
I went there with my family on June. We didn't wait to long, after ordering, for our food to arrived. The customer service, the atmosphere of the place and the Frittata were amazing. Even though we live in Brooklyn NY we are hoping to go back there soon.
Always good food always great service prices are very reasonable... Coffee cups never even get close to being empty... Food comes out hot like it should...
We are in Syracuse for the States Archery competition and found this cute diner online. Service is amazing, food was great! Great find! Can’t wait to patronize Redwood next year during States!!! :)
The staff is remarkable. From a person who has difficulties with people this group that includes-Danielle, Louie, Kara, MY Judy and Owner Mike- they have shown me what a true loving family of people really are. On top of this the food is some of the best I’ve ever consumed. Check this place out you won't be disappointed.
We had breakfast here our first day in Syracuse and it was so good we came back the next day. The French toast is addictive it was so delicious and everything else was amazing too! The service was excellent as well!
The legendary Redwood proved to be nothing but awesome! The staff was super friendly and the breakfast was delicious. I sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the cook prepare delicious meals!
This is an amazing local diner! Even when they're busy, the food is always delicious and the service is quick and friendly. If you're ever in East Syracuse I highly recommend these guys.
Great food , fantastic service and no wait at all on food 👍 good price for your moneys worth on food
Attending Syracuse Nationals car show and found this amazing breakfast diner. From the outside I wouldn’t have given it a second look but glad we gave it a chance. Awesome service and incredible breakfast. Coffee is great too. We will be back tomorrow!
Live in Rochester area, but here frequently. Will DEFINITELY be back. Food was delicious and service was excellent! Favorite Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had at a diner. Italian toast looked amazing. Will have that next time.
Amazing food and amazing service! I had the feta and spinach omelet with home fries and it was spectacular! I've never seen spinach that fresh in an omelet and the home fries totally hit the spot. My fiance had the #2 special, loved it and keeps thanking me for finding this little gem. We will definitely be back!
Delicious, fairly priced, and amazing service! We’ve been a few times now and it’s been great every time. Our most recent visit we got a bacon egg and cheese on cinnamon raisin bread and the chopped cheese omelette - sooooo good!!
Coffee was excellent, freshly ground. I had French Toast and ham and my Husband ordered sausage and cheddar cheese omelet. Both meals were very good. Small place, very friendly, our waitress was great !
Love this place. A delightful simple yet well seasoned classic breakfast! Kind staff and fun atmosphere!
We happened upon this quaint little place. What a find!! Small space but it was clean and the food was excellent!!! Our waitress Danielle was extremely personable. It's hard to find that these days. The Brioche French toast was soft and had a touch of sweetness, was cooked perfectly. Eggs over easy were spot on! The Philly Cheese Steak breakfast sandwich was amazing. The bun was toasted with a little crispness around the edge. I was worried that the scrambled egg on it would be dry, but it was soft and fluffy. If you are looking for a great place to eat this is it!!
This is a true down home diner!!! Fast service, hot coffee and delicious food!!! I had the BEST bacon egg and cheese breakfast Sammy I had EVER had!! Soft, toasted roll, fresh cracked egg, and lots of crispy bacon. The home fries were crispy and delicious!! All the other dishes I saw come out looked equally good.
Everything you would expect at a train car dinner. Best food you, cozy, and inexpensive.
I was in the area super hungry and this was the closest diner. My sister and I really enjoyed the food. I had eggs, sausage, home fries, and pancakes. The home fries were crispy and fresh. The eggs and pancakes were fluffy. The staff were also very friendly! It was like being at grandmas house for breakfast.
I love authentic old fashioned diners…this is what you get with The Redwood! So if you’re looking for true diner food and ambience…this is a place you’ll want to try! I grew up in East Syr and was in the area…so glad we stopped! The food was awesome (frittata and eggs benny), and Danielle was super nice, went out of her way to ensure we had a great “first visit” experience! We will be back for sure!
My first time going here and it was delicious
I've been here 3 times now and I really love it. The guy on the grill is friendly and excellent and service has always been great too. I told them today this is my favorite diner in syracuse and I really meant it. There are several other good ones in town but I think Redwood has the charm, service and food to take the title.
Great and friendly people. The French toast was amazing. It was fun to sit at the counter and talk with everyone.
This was (by far) the best breakfast I have ever had!! How can a fried egg be so amazing?? It was! The bacon and home fries were delicious!
We have been twice now and both times the food was delicious and service friendly. Quintessential diner atmosphere. I definitely recommend.
Shout out to my boy Louie on the grill! Food and good times always when I step into the redwood diner. Gives you that "I'm with family and I'm comfortable feeling".:)
Found by chance after an appointment nearby! Treated very well, food was yummy, will definitely go back if in area again.
It's everything you want in a diner. Great food, fun atmosphere and phenomenal service. Highly recommend.
We loved this place! Fast service, clean ,and the food was out of this world with large ,delicious and generous portions .Friendly and very efficient waitress .Looking forward to going back here .
Small place, small menu. Had eggs and sausage with bacon and two blueberry pancakes. Pancakes were huge and pretty good. Eggs were great and sausage and bacon were good too. Girlfriend had an amazing Greek omelette. Bill came to about 20 bucks with coffee and a glass of oj. Friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Great local spot that we checked out while passing through town. The food was great & the service was amazing! Thanks. 🤙🏼
Old school diner at its best! Never had a bad meal here. Staff is great too
Food was fantastic. Pricing was fair. Staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely will be returning.
This is an old school diner with charm, friendly staff and incredible food. The omelets are the best in town, the Spanish home fries are delicious, and the hash is perfectly cooked with a crispy bark. All the ingredients are fresh including fresh spinach in the veggie omelet. Not just a neighborhood spot, Redwood Diner is worth the drive!
The new owners have done an incredible job with this diner. I used to go in there as a kid, they kept the same nostalgic vibe, but cleaned it up and have redone the exterior and interior. I ordered a made to order omelet, it was very good. The staff was very welcoming and overall the best breakfast spot in the area. HIGHLY recommend checking them out
For sure one of the very best diners I've eaten at. The foods very good, the French toast was the best I've ever had. Omelets on point, potatoes were great. Fast, good service. Only drawback was renovations happening while dining and the buildings small so it was loud. This is just temporary though and I'm sure it'll look great when done. Menu posted 3 years ago in review picture is still accurate, and everything is very reasonably priced.
Love the atmosphere. Great service and good food. Love the Spanish home fries.
Service people are always so friendly here... Food is good very reasonably priced a great spot for breakfast... New owners have been remodeling the inside as well as the outside... There is a lot of history behind this place as it has been open for over 100 years...
One of the best diners in CNY! Homefries were amazing, everything was cooked perfectly, service was quick and friendly. The prices were reasonable and the whole vibe of the place is just great, I would recommend this to anyone.
It is the best breakfast I've had in a long while. The meal was awesome! The service was very, very good. This will be our new breakfast diner. My father taught me the best food is often made at a diner. We would go out to breakfast most Saturdays even after I had children of my own. You have 2 fans for life!!!
I stayed in the area for two days. Both days I came here for breakfast. The place has a classic small town diner feel. The entire staff was pleasant and sweet. The hostess and waitresses were very nice and quick to your attention. The food was great with some out of the box omelettes which were great. The frittata was huge and enough for two people. Will be back when I’m in the area again.
If you like Diners this is the place to go. We've been twice for breakfast and the food is just so tasty. There's nothing like fresh sliced Italian toast.
Food was awesome, the service was great and the prices were reasonable!
Good food, good service and fair prices! Go here
The food was cooked so well. best bacon and potatoes i’ve had at a diner. service was great everyone was happy and the atmosphere was a vibe
Amazing food. Lovely service. Authentic decor. Simple menu with items clear and direct. Food made right in front of your face with conversation with the chef while it’s being made.
It was clean and cheerful inside. Exterior was newly painted. The food was good. Parking lot is a little rough.
First diner I went to that doesn't larp the classic atmosphere. Pancakes real thick and they put butter on all the pancakes instead of just on the top. Service was great too
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Absolute Gem — The Redwood Diner Delivers Perfection! If you’re even thinking about stopping at the Redwood Diner, do yourself a favor and go — immediately. From the moment I walked in, the service was outstanding: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Now let’s talk about the food — because wow. The eggs were clearly fresh, cooked exactly how I ordered them, rich and flavorful in a way you just don’t get everywhere anymore. The pancakes were a dream: fluffy, golden, and perfectly balanced — not too heavy, not too sweet, just pure comfort on a plate. And the home fries? Absolute perfection. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, seasoned just right, and impossible to stop eating. Honestly, it was one of those meals where everything hits. No weak links, no afterthoughts — just classic diner food done exceptionally well. Portions were generous, the quality was top-notch, and somehow it was all incredibly affordable. You leave feeling satisfied, happy, and wondering how they manage to deliver that level of quality at such a great price. The Redwood Diner is the kind of place that reminds you why diners are special — honest food, friendly service, and unbeatable value. I would recommend this spot to anyone reading this without hesitation. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is a must-stop destination. I’ll absolutely be back — and soon. 🥞🍳✨
Went to the redwood diner for the first time yesterday. Very busy place and I think the cook was kind of overwhelmed, but our server was fantastic. The food was great, the price reasonable, and if you want the atmosphere an old time diner, this one is for you.
We were in town for a conference and stumbled upon this gem as we were checking out the area. What an awesome atmosphere of and old time diner. We sat at the counter watching the cook knocking out 6-8 orders at a time with ease. The staff was friendly, an atmosphere where the customers all seemed like regulars, and the food portions were huge and delicious. Very glad we stopped!
Great little (tiny) diner with a lot of history in the center of East Syracuse. Feels very authentic. Service was great and the food was delicious. Spanish home fries are a definite must. There was a wait but considering how busy and small it was it wasn’t terrible and well worth it.
Okay, this place doesn't look like much. Should we really go in? Thrilled that we did! Standard diner food items prepared with unusually capable care. Chef knows what they're doing, including outstanding pancakes and excellent omelet. We were well taken care of in every regard. Thank you!
Love this little diner with huge heart! Best biscuits and gravy in town, and the portions are perfect and fairly priced -- and when you sit at the bar you get "breakfast and a show" watching the owner/chef show you how short - order cooking is done on the open flat-top. An old school diner experience done right .... AND they've got AC now so lunch on a hot day in East Syracuse will be at the Redwood! Get the biscuits and gravy you will not be disappointed.
The redwood diner is a favorite. Family run, classic 1950s diner, with no frills decor - red bar stools, checkered floors- takes you back in time to its roots. Don’t let its understated looks fool you - the food is excellent, and at a good price. Fresh ingredient diner food without all the grease hiding the flavor like you might get from a lot of places. I recommend the chopped cheese omelet with Spanish home fries if you’re feeling a little something different, it’s like a cheeseburger for breakfast. Lots of omelets to choose from though - there’s one for everyone. If you’re looking for sweet, the French toast or blueberry pancakes won’t disappoint. If you haven’t been I suggest you stop in!
I love the Red Wood Diner me and Laura Fiorenza my mom went there today and ordered food in and sat at the front Chef was amazing wasn’t on the menu but cooked me some cheese fries and sausage gravy went out of his way to made that for me being extra kind and wonderful and I will be going back there again with my mentor and Philly cheese steak tasted out of this world and amazing so awesome place to come and eat and calming music playing love it so much Thank you so much Chef for going out of you way for making my favorite cheese fries and sausage gravy
I'm from out of town about an hour away, but after my awesome experience today, I will be making that drive again with friends to eat here. SYRACUSE'S BEST HIDDEN GEM! The customer service was amazing. You can see that many regulars were enjoying breakfast early in the morning, I was at the bar listening to the cook and the sever interacting and showing true care to customers. Engaged in conversation, attentive. Now the food put it over! The texture, temperature, taste, and presentation were all 10/10. This place needs to be on Diners Drive Ins & Dives it's that good. Thanks for a great experience! Leaving there, I felt like I made two new friends! 🤍🤞🏽
I must have driven by here 1,000 times as an East Syracuse resident and I’ve never given them the time of day… until today that is. What a mistake to have missed so many breakfasts here. I got the frittata (half) and holy moly. It came out steaming hot and loaded with deliciousness. What a gem. I’m reluctant to post this review and lose my table there but good work needs to be recognized
Giving this place a 4, for the great service from the good people that work here. Typical for the area, the place looks a little shabby from the street corner. Like a 40 foot rail car dropped on a city corner, and a bit rundown. But the atmosphere, the friendliness and the good neighbors inside, make all the difference. And the food is pretty darn good too. They take AMX, cards and cash
Always driving by never stopped. Stopped in for the first time today. The food was great( the #1 special). The staff was amazing( so friendly, like you were part of the family). This will be my new go to breakfast place. Wait let's not forget about how great the coffee was.
The food is great. I wished they'd replace the silverware, it's probably as old as the restaurant.
It is a classic diner in every way. There was nothing spectacular or horrible about the food or service. My lasting impression was how cold it was in the restaurant. It was °15 outside and maybe °60 inside.
Classic diner - open kitchen clean and well managed. Did was not greasy and tasted great.
I used to love this place but something changed and I don't like them anymore . a while back I would order all the time and there would be no issues . then I ordered one day and they forgot my extra bacon no problem ordered again and forgot my bacon . the next time I ordered I came in the door and a customer and an employee were negatively talking about me almost laughing at me . then I called recently to put in a take out order which I always do and the lady said unfortunately we aren't doing take out orders right now and I said well that sucks or something like that and she said I'm sorry I said no that's okay I understand and before I could finish what I was saying she hung up on me it's the short haired lady at the front counter . today I tried calling and they won't even answer the phone . used to be a good experience now I get irritated when I even think about them .
Found this place while looking for breakfast spots on Google. It had good reviews so we decided to try it. Not really sure where the reviews came from but my husband and I were far from impressed. Aside of the place being small and rather unclean the food wasn’t good at all. Greasy and flavorless. Cheapest ingredients available. Pancakes were thick but pasty like biscuick. Canned mushrooms in the Fretta which was seriously lacking. I love hot sauce on my Fretta and even that sucked like they use some cheap brand, it was almost sweet. Service was friendly but not accommodating. Didn’t check on us or ask if we needed anything else. Unfortunately we wouldn’t return.
