Decided to visit after been put off by the reviews of our own nearby hotel. Excellent choice here. Food is great quality, well presented, with quick service, well priced & the atmosphere is super cozy. We both had the fish & chips which were absolutely fabulous. Deserts we had the 'proper' Sticky Toffee Pudding + Apple & Blackberry Flapjack Crumble with custard. Both were simply exquisite! 😋😋 Well done to Joe & the team! Can highly recommend. 👍
Went to the farmhouse today and the food & service was awesome. We had the handmade steak pie as well as fish & chips. Let me tell you the steak pie was delicious with fabulous pastry (not everyone can make pastry) plus the gravy & fresh veggies were totally fantastic. The fish was cooked to perfection with a batter that was fabulously crispy and the chips were also crispy on the edges (ok we did dip some of the chips in the gravy 😋). The desserts look and tasted perfect - the sundae tantalised the taste buds and the sticky toffee pudding (with additional custard) …. well I’m definitely having that again. Atmosphere was lively, the staff attentive and the decor was reminiscent of an old farmhouse Congratulations to Joe the manager, the chefs Gareth & Wayne and of course the waiting staff Connor and Ellie. We will be back with family & friends.
John is still in charge and the place never looked better... The food coming out of the kitchen looks amazing.. Very popular with the locals as many in enjoying the food and hospitality. ----previous feedback ----- Came here for work today... A beautiful pub in a quiet area... Spotlessly clean throughout... Serving coffee aswell as a huge range of wines and the other usual pub favourite drinks. The hiltonbury farmhouse offers pizzas made in the clay oven (photo) and a full menu with ample seating and parking Photos show this idyllic local pub in all its splendor... Lush green landscaped lawns around the estate enhances the vista while sitting outside on the many tables and huts. An all round lovely pub from the Punch pub brand. The staff working today we're very friendly and accommodating...
Great service and lovely food, don’t believe all the reviews. Landlord bitter was first class, the Provence Rose very good. The duck salad main and home made chicken and ham pie - just…. Then frangipan tart and sticky toffee pudding - with double custard. A big plus point, when asked they turned the Muzak down - thank you.
We went here today for lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff and were able to choose our own table. The food was incredible. The flavours were absolutely delicious. I had the burger and had to ask chef what was on the bottom bun. It was home made onion chutney 😊 I can’t describe how good this was. Please see photos. My friend had steak which was cooked to perfection and my other friend had the fish and chips. Which once again was delicious. I highly recommend this little hidden gem.
Had Christmas lunch here with the family. The food was fantastic, and the portions were larger than we had anticipated. The only course I managed to finish was the starter. The main was packed full with turkey and all the trimmings you expected. The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. The setting was lovely, full of families and friends either enjoying a Christmas drink, or those who booked a table. My brother on law who is a human eating machine, told me he never touched anything for the rest of the day 😂
Been in for a beer quite a few times lately because it’s close to home and they have a great pale ale on, Love the layout the atmosphere and the staff are great. Had the Pizza before which is really good but today I went for a meal for my Birthday and took my family and friends and everyone was blown away by how good the food was and all said they need to come back again and wish they’d come sooner. 100% recommend this place for excellent food, Service and atmosphere, Faultless
Sunday lunch 25th Jan. Roast beef and desserts were really good and made all the better for genuinely lovely service by the all the staff that served us. Haven’t had lunch there for a few years but would definitely now go back soon. Thank you
Great little find, cosy, good menu. I only gave 4 starts for food because some of the specials weren't available even though it was relatively early in the afternoon which was disappointing. The other choice of food I selected was top notch, so I will go back again for sure.
Group of 9 came on Saturday for birthday lunch, service was great, food for a mixture of children and adults all came out in good time, very generous portion sizes and really good quality. No negative comments from any of the diners, we all loved it and would definitely come again. Lovely setting, seating outside for the warmer days, staff were great and plenty of parking etc
Great Sunday lunch. Issy served us and she was very friendly and attentive. We didn’t have a booking and were squeezed in & had a lovely experience. The lamb rack was lovely!
Naomi remembers us visiting every Sunday for a nice afternoon out with the family. Always cheerful and remembers us well (very personal feel). Would strongly recommend if you like good food, especially Sunday roasts!
We came here as a group of 30 for a Christmas lunch in mid December & it was lovely. We had pre-ordered our meals & as far as I know, everyone received what they had ordered. The food (roast turkey & all the trimmings in my case) was lovely & well presented. We asked for more gravy which was brought with no problem. The pub was decorated very nicely for Christmas & there was a nice atmosphere. The staff were helpful & cheerful - the only thing we could have done differently was not to have paid separately for our meals, as whilst this was accepted with good grace, it did take up a lot of their time at the end! It was the first time I'd been here, but I will definitely be back! 🙂
The service was excellent. Greeted with a smile, placed at a comfortable table. Menu was good and once we'd selected, the food and drinks came out really quickly. We had the roasts, and it was a VERY generous plate of food, just like home cooked. Really good value for money, definitely worth a visit
Really nice pub We pre booked and we were greated by name. We enjoyed the double bacon burger, fish n chips & the schnitzel Followed by black forest meringue n sticky toffee pud The food was delicious
One of the best roasts we've had in a long time ...been twice in 3 weeks couldn't be any more pleased. Sean is always graceful, attentive and genuinely a warm and welcoming host, always made our experience a fantastic one, even remembered our special requests and looked after us
We went for a lovely meal on Thursday evening, we had the hiltonbury burger and the chicken burger, which was delicious and presented beautifully. We sat outside on a day where it was supposed to be raining, but the table outside was well covered and had fairy lights for a nice cosy atmosphere. The tables were also separated enough so that there was a nice distance between other tables, so we felt very comfortable in our space. I can not recommend enough, and will most certainly visit again!
I do wish they would do more vegan options, as we could visit more as a family. At the moment, we just visit for drinks and snacks.
We went for an early dinner @ 4.45pm, it was very quiet, inspite of that the food was freshly cooked, it was tasty and really well cooked. My fish was soooo nice, the lamb my hubby had was so tender and all served with a smile, thank you guys :-)
Christmas dinner with the family, table for 8. Food and service was excellent, highly recommend for the quality of food served, really would be hard to top this, I feel even more so on a Christmas day.
I usually get good service and very good food here …. the chef (Gareth) always produces excellent meals …. Nice ambience too ….. sadly I was refused their special offer recently which was upsetting considering my regular attendance and patronage both personal and in various groups which I have encouraged !
Food and service, by Will, really good. Atmosphere was a little quiet but this was a Wednesday after New Year’s Eve!
The food was pretty good. One over cooked steak which was very quickly fixed. The service was faultless. Thank you for a lovely evening. Good music too
the food is absolutely incredible have never had a bad meal here, and the staff are amazing can never do enough for you! would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely pub and good food::)
Booked last minute for Father’s Day, we were warmly greeted and promptly sat at a table to accommodate our pushchair. Service was quick, we both had the roast pork which was easily the nicest roast dinner we’ve had in a restaurant. Everything was cooked brilliantly and the portion size was great. We will definitely be returning!
Visited twice during our week down . Great pub great food , lovely staff . Can recommend
Lovely pub. Excellent Sunday roasts and friendly, attentive staff. Would recommend!
Lovely pub with great staff and the food was excellent. Only complaint would be that the wine wasn't chilled. Would highly recommend the steak and ale pie and the veg was fantastic, my husband had the shepherd's pie and said it was the best he'd ever had .
We had a superb Sunday lunch here today. The food was hot and plentiful and service was friendly.
I ordered the vegetarian beet burger. It was fantastic. Never thought beets and burger would go together 🙂. Proper sticky toffee pudding was the cherry on top. Enjoyed my meal thoroughly 🙂
Nice cozy Pub, with a warm inviting look & feel. Food is classic pub fare, and it is done well. Didn’t find much in the way of dairy-free dinner kiddie meals, but to be fair the chef went out of her way to accommodate. Service excellent and has nice outside booths with heated lamps for the chilly nights. Great spot and Pub.
Kitchen was due to close early but they allowed us to order which we were very grateful for. Food was lovely and tasty and worth the cost. Grounds and building were gorgeous. 2 vegan options on the menu. Unfortunately my pie wasn’t hot enough for me but staff were very attentive and apologetic and rectified it. I would definitely return despite this and would recommend. Dog friendly and outdoor seating was gorgeous.
We came here for Sunday lunch and really enjoyed it – lovely food with generous portions and friendly staff. A quick check after serving and an offer of more drinks would have been nice, as I ran out before finishing my meal. The wine was also quite pricey, so while we’d happily return for the food, my wife will probably skip the wine next time. Thank you for a lovely lunch overall.
Very welcoming staff and good service throughout in a cosy pub. Food was very average, nothing overly special. Reasonably priced for what it was. Won’t be rushing back but we had a nice evening.
Had a festive menu dining experience with friends. Service was pretty.good, polite and thoughtful. Pate starters very good and plentiful. Mains tasty, however the potatoes and parsnips were not freshly (I. E frozen pre-prepared) but cooked reasonably well. Puddings were a complete let down sadly. The apple crumble tart was stodgy and bland. It was served with squirty cream and not as advertised brandy ice cream (which sounds so much nicer). The advertised cinnamon which I thought would make up a tasty apple tart was a sprinkling of powder over the plate. Really complete letdown. Cheese board was also off and therefore another let down so a pate starter had to be served as pudding offering if a sweet was not wanted. £34 for the 2 courses was not really great considering the meal as I would of liked proper roasted veg and homemade pudding with advertised side of ice cream not canned cream. Would possibly come back 🤔
Won't rate it 5 stars only because my main course wasn't tasty. 4.5 stars:) We tryed this place recently and it was good . The pub is very nice inside, clean and many sits inside and few outside. Steak was good and tasty, Pizza was very good, loved the base. The Plaice was fresh but.... dish was very plain ... fish, boiled potatoes and some fennel,,, at least chef could roast the potatoes and add some grilled vegetables to the dish . ( only because of this I removed one star) Drink from the bar were nice and service fast and friendly. Good parking outside. We will definitely come back and suggest this place to others!
Lovely setting, friendly staff & beautiful food. But a couple of issues. Staff confirmed orange gin & ginger ale was available, which I ordered - then they served London gin & tonic. Enquired about the trout & prawn dish and whether this was whole or fillet - then the dish served was salmon & prawn, not trout. Staff & food were lovely but needs some attention to details.
Can’t fault the venue but they got food order wrong, in that Trout was ordered but Salmon was on the plate. They also got a drinks order wrong, standard G & T instead of the Orange gin & Ginger Ale that had been ordered. Food was lovely but the choice on the menu wasn’t what was delivered. Not sure if they ran out of Trout or if it wasn’t available but the serving staff didn’t seem to understand the difference I had Shepherds Pie and it was excellent, not lamb mince but chunks of lamb with a very good gravy, lovely potato topping and buttered greens on the side. The food was really good though, both meals were good value and I’d recommend the venue.
Mum and I have a small appetite, so we order Calamari and a pizza. It was a disappointing meal. Calamari was rubbery, and pizza was no way to be cut up with a normal knife when it was cooling down. We ordered the pizza supposed to have wild mushrooms as the menu stated. Instead, it was topped with white cup mushrooms. Felt being cheated. The service were good and efficient.
This restaurant has been done up very nicely and the service was good. The pizza oven looks impressive but the pizza itself wasn't to my taste; flavours were good, but the crust was too thin and crispy for me. A side of cheesy truffle chips was very very oily and scorching hot which made them hard to eat. Room for improvement, but my partner liked his steak sandwich.
We used to live close to this pub and used it frequently. However since we moved a couple of miles down the road it is a while since we had been. We called in today and I was surprised to find that it was not as good as I remembered it. The tables we sticky. The food was below standard (especially considering what they were charging for it) and the toilets were not clean. The whole place looked tired. We shall not be rushing back
The staff were very friendly & fairly efficient, but I found the place very noisy, not helped by the fact there was a music speaker immediately above us & children being allowed to run a mock!😡 As for the food, my friends seemed happy with their fish & chips, but I was disappointed with my chicken & ham pie! There was too much pastry & very little filling! The only reason the plate looked full was the gravy pan was on the plate! 😲 Not what I was expecting for £17 & definitely not value for money! 😪 I will think twice before going again!
Visited with 4 friends from Bournemouth we found the service wasn’t good we had to ask twice for the dessert menu and half the coffees ordered didn’t appear until we reminded them .the staff seemed uncaring and no attention to detail . I found it difficult with not much to offer being gluten free on the menu and again had to ask twice for what I could have off the menu the waitress forgot to ask the chef in the end had just a starter of goats cheese behind the bar there was a used cloth bucket and a muck bucket in full sight we didn’t have a very good experience having travelled quite a distance for lunch with one friend travelling from Newbury ..
We dropped in for a spot of lunch, the building is lovely and in a quiet location. Sitting outside with a beer was great they have some covered booths. It went down hill when we went inside to eat. Table was sticky which didn’t make me feel good about the place. Service was inattentive at first and we weren’t sure if we needed to order at the bar. Starter of pulled duck salad was inedible it had raw rice noodles which was like raw spaghetti and the duck very hard and dry. Sent it back and both starters were removed from the bill which was good. Wife’s crab starter was good. For main I had a pizza which as the pizza oven was on show at the bar I thought this must be a star dish…. It wasn’t it was very bland the tomato sauce had no flavour. The food looked good but was pricey and worth the money. We would go back for a drink only.
