Highly recommend Porters Steakhouse in Southampton! Every single dish we ordered was absolutely perfect. The restaurant itself is great, with a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and such a welcoming owner. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a lovely steak house with great service. We ordered off the main menu and had the short Rib and scallops to start which were delicious, I had the ribeye and my wife had the fillet mains were great but mine was a little over seasoned so I could not taste the meat but nice all same

I was the first to try the new wagyu taster menu and I was blown away. Never had steak that good in my life and the 6 courses were each quite different and immaculately presented. Good pairing of wine for each course too. If you’re looking for the very best steak experience, this is it!

We had an absolutely phenomenal meal. The 'Porters Experience' was a selection of different cuts of meat and cooked to perfection by the resident chef Oscar. Quite honestly some of the best food I've ever eaten. The totally relaxed and welcoming approach from Tony and his staff made for a great evening.

I don't usually write reviews but 'Outstanding' doesn't cut it when describing Porters. This isn't just a steak house, it's something else. They age their own meat and its insanely good. If you're going to pay for steak its got to be worth it right? This really is. We had the Porters Experience menu. Ordinarily I'd order a slab of meat, I wouldn't go for flavour mixing like this, but wow......I've laughed before when I've seen food critics with their eyes closed making weird sexual noises about food, but, confession time..... That may have happened 🤣 🤷🏻‍♀️ The Japanese Wagu was like nothing I've ever had before. Something I that is really lovely about Porters, is that yes you can get dressed up with friends or your significant other and have a beautiful night out, but you could also rock up in jeans. Its laid back and friendly. No pretentious attitudes, with 5 sets of cutlery and 3 sizes of wine glasses making you feel like you don't fit in. Just welcoming staff who look after you and provide what you order with a smile. In short, try it...... Oh and quickly. The menu changes depending on the cuts they have, so if you miss that Japanese Wagu, its on you. 😉

We were warmly welcomed by Tony, and from that moment on the experience was exceptional. The service was phenomenal, and the atmosphere instantly set the tone for a truly special meal. We even had a view of the dry-aged beef, which added to the excitement. Tony kindly talked us through the menu and introduced us to the Porter’s Experience, which sounded absolutely phenomenal. From start to finish, we were completely starstruck by the food — the quality, the precision of the cooking, and the incredible attention to detail. You can immediately tell this is a one-of-a-kind steakhouse. From the bread and butter to the dessert, every single bite felt divine. We were so impressed that we felt compelled to thank the chefs in person — we had genuinely never experienced food of this calibre before. If you’re visiting Southampton, this restaurant absolutely deserves a top spot on your to-do list.

10/01/26 - Had a booking for 6pm for my brother birthday. Absolutely amazing experience. Our server was Tony little did we know he was the owner, regardless he had great knowledge for the menu and superb service. The experience as a whole was 10/10 all the staff was very nice and the steak was incomparable to any other steakhouse. Hats off to all the chefs, presentation was excellent and everything complement each other on the plate, from starters all the way to puddings. Thank you for the amazing experience Porters, will 100% be coming back for the Porters experience and would recommend to anyone who is hesitant in coming to try it out

We dined yesterday evening and arrived with high expectations, as we have had an amazing meal couple months ago and we were not disappointed. From start to finish the meal was faultless. Excellent food, wonderful wine and warm service. Highly recommend!

We went for our anniversary but with the intention of getting the standard 12oz ribeye as the wife is not a big eater. We ordered sides but in reality the steak and chips were plenty in itself. Steak was very well seasoned and cooked perfectly to order. I request something for the table on arrival in celebration of our anniversary. They had flowers ready and a personalised card for the wife, she loved it and it made her night. Will be back to try the chopping board selection. Thanks to all who helped organise the night.

Been to Porters many times now. Not once have I had anything but a fantastic experience. The steaks are phenomenal and we often opt for the tomahawk sharing steak and always find it perfectly cooked. In the past they've had beef croquets as a starter which I'd like to see back on the menu. The mac and cheese and truffle parmesan fries are also incredible. Service is always great.

We arrived early, we're seated by the lovely Brooke - definitely worth her weight in gold - she talked us through the menu, explained everything and the chef was outstanding everything I have eaten this evening was 10/10 possibly the best steak I have ever eaten and all served so well. Amazing staff and perfect execution, we will definitely be back and definitely recommend. Thank you for an amazing evening.

We went for our anniversary last night. The staff were lovely, informative and friendly. We will be going back. There is more my husband wants to try!

Went to Porter’s for dinner. The fillet was very tender and they had good sauces to compliment. Service was very nice and attentive. Atmosphere is good as well with nice music.

I’ve always wanted to go to Porters for dinner but never got round to it. So we bit the bullet and did a family trip. Tonight was amazing! We we’re served by Liam, who was very attentive and lovely. He helped us decide on which steaks to have, and drinks also. Prices were very reasonable and perfect for the food you got. Every steak was cooked perfectly. All our compliments to the chef. I definitely recommend this place. Very calm and peaceful and a great vibe overall. 10/10. Thank you very much to Liam and the Porters Team

Great steaks and a great place for a drink, they had ran out of what we wanted (T-bone) but accommodated and gave us a fillet and a sirloin cooked separately for the same price (usually £50 more).

We visited from Margate and had a really wonderful meal last night the good was excellent, service was excellent, the restaurant was clean, absolutely five star 🌟 service. Would highly recommend!

Under rated eatery in southampton. Very well prepped starters and mains. All the normal steaks on offer but also special steaks from many different breeders and locations. Wine list good and changes and a good atmosphere. Only found revently but have tried three times and been impressed each time. Tony and Lisa and the team excelled and in a non stuffy environment. Great fun

WOW WOW WOW, This place is fantastic went as a treat for my son's birthday and was blown away by the whloe experience steaks, to die for. At fist glance seems expensive but when you get your food and start eating you know why. We will be back

Came for a special date night and was overall impressed. The fillet steaks were cooked to perfection (one blue and one medium rare) and were full of flavour. Possibly best fillet I've ever had. Peppercorn sauce was also delicious and good texture. However, the chips were very disappointing and were quite oily and soggy. When it said triple cooked I expected crispy, might be a preference thing for me. The breads and dips were also very good but the croquettes were a little dry for me and wouldn't have those again. What really made up for those few negatives were the drinks. The cocktails were delicious and possibly best espresso martini I've had. The lighting was a bit harsh too, it didn't feel very intimate which given the Saturday night and also fact it's not cheap was a shame. I will definitely go back again one day but at the price, it's a treat not a regular dining experience.

Overall a terrific option for excellent steaks! They could stand to trim down the peliclle a bit closer. There were a few bites in the Steak Tartare where there was a bit more funk that kinda overwhelmed it. Same with the Porterhouse. It was great and I overall do like dry aged beef, but just a more careful hand with the knife would make these dishes perfect. Great service by our bartendress. Good cocktails and some reasonable choices of wines. Sides and sauces for their Porterhouse were great, but the cabbage slaw I felt was a bit of a mis-match for a steak dinner. Would like to see more vegetable options for sides.

Had a very good steak here! But it's super expensive and service and knowledge is just so so for what you get. For the prices and menu, you need to knock it out the park if less is more.

Food was ok had the Tomahawk steak 🥩which was average a bit sinewy. The service was excellent and attentive but the place was quite empty for a Thursday night - the next door Porter House bistro thing which was part of the same place looked a lot busier.

Very disappointed that the price of the roast chicken has increased by a few pounds, and you no longer get half a chicken - you only get a single breast which is very hard to justify paying £25 for. Luckily the trimmings are still fantastic, but unless the size of the chicken portion returns to what it used to be, or the price comes down, I don’t think we’ll be coming back which is a real shame as I used to regard this place as the best roast in Southampton.

We had tomahawk steak we wanted it medium well done , it came out red so bit disappointed. The cocktails were amazing. The side salad was good but very expensive beware.

Birthdays are treated as a special event by us and even more so as i join my wife in a vegetarian lifestyle for all home meals, so when celebrating my option is always steak. We had visited two other steak houses in the vicinity on previous occasions but their veggie options were limited, so we were pleased to find online the menus offered by Porters included three options; fish &chips, gnocchi, and various salads. Our night was fraught with some frustration trying to pay for parking at college street car park, apps!! So it was great to have such a warm welcome from the maitre d (who also appeared to be bartender, & cashier also one of two waitresses, i suppose it was Tuesday although still seemed stretching it). We were given a menu only to have something it somewhat slimmer than online, when questioned it was supplier issues & new menu launch soon, so no fish & chips or salads!. Vegetarian options down to one; Gnocchi! We accepted this and ordered the one veggie, and my son ordered medium rare fillet with chips, and mine a medium no blood fillet with honey roast veg rather than chips which was no issue. They arrived but as we eat our steaks it was obvious that my son had the steak designated for me, and i had his, whilst not the end of the world i was expecting better attention to requirements, and the waitress had been so clear that i had the steak no blood as i had requested. My steak i have to say was certainly not the melt in the mouth meat i had experienced elsewhere, so was a disappointment, although i didn't want to draw more issue as it was a special evening. Mains over, we tried the sweet menu and my son was given a banoffee cheesecake happy birthday plate, which is always a nice touch. I did mention the steaks being opposite of requirements but heard no more. When presented with bill again the options to tip were various and the waitress was again exceptional at dealing with payment, with an impressive card payment HHT. Overall, service whilst slow was very good, the gnocchi was great (although very rich, just for info) the lack of veggie options poor and the steaks, well i expected better for the prices are the top end of steak houses.

Our first and only visit i would say. Reception was friendly and sat us at a nice quiet table in the corner. Everything was clean and well presented and the menu is nice and easy to understand. First off one of the drinks was incorrect. We then queried a few items with the waitress and when the food arrived it showed she didnt know the menu at all. For starters i can say it was the only thing we enjoyed, the beef croquettes were very nice. The charcoal cheddar was the issue as the waitress said its wasnt black, when it was. The mains arrived in a timely fashion but the food looked rushed. Everything was greasy and the looked average. I had asked for well done steak , yet it was very bloody on the underside. My partners meal was missing its cheese, and bacon considering it was a blue cheese burger, it should of least had that. A large rowdy group of people arrived and the noise from them became too excessive we decided to call it a night and go home. I mentioned it to the waitress and she agreed it wasnt good. At £75 for the meal i consider this not value for money which is a real shame

My dad wanted to go out for my mums bday and we went to winchester steakhouse (old porters) and payed a 30 POUND deposit. The manager was very rude and disrespectful and said thats not our problem. I would understand if it wasn’t mums birthday but the fact we booked a whole birthday table. Terrible service terrible staff Birthday ruined. Unbelievable. this will go further.
