Restaurant Review Met my sister in law for her birthday. The holiday decorations are very nice. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious Sat in a lovely room with a fireplace More recently, went to a baby shower in the big room with a fireplace. Very swanky. Nice, amazing food The menu changes daily, I think, I forgot to take a picture of it. Forgive the crass but accurate description of the meal.
Awesome date spot! We sat in the pub, super cozy and amazing menu. You can order the starter menu from the dining room so we got the French onion soup and escargot, so incredible! Best I’ve had outside of Quebec and France! Entrees were stellar as well, we live super close and will be back in the future! We also got to peak in the rooms as there were no guest and they are outfitted with amazing antiques but also all the modern things. Looks like an incredible wedding venue as well!
This was the perfect venue for us. Do you want an old-world feel and classic feeling for your wedding? This is perfect. Do you want all the amenities, modern accommodations for your wedding? This isn’t it. We wanted to feel like we were in another world for our wedding. This served as the perfect place. My husband and I stayed in the Ivy suite and his groomsmen in the Essex. This was perfect as he went to the Essex room to get ready with the groomsmen and the Ivy was perfect for the bridal party as there were multiple rooms for hair and makeup to set up. Most of the wedding party and family rented out the rooms - so we got to see those, and all were unique and beautiful in their own ways. I recommend reserving the room Bath for a bridesmaid or whomever will be steaming dresses. The pergola and Medovue Hall both were beautiful for the ceremony and reception respectively. We didn’t do a lot of decorations because I felt the beauty of the hall spoke for itself. We had the Duck for dinner - and it was perfect. Everyone raved about it. The bartenders and waitstaff were so nice and personable. Adriana was great to organize and work with. All in all, we loved our venue and highly recommend it.
Came to have a nice anniversary dinner. Arrived early to explore the grounds and property. French onion soup, mushroom caps, beef wellington, and dessert were all amazing and top-tier. It was so nice, we decided to try out a room, and we're given a mini tour by the hostess. We came on a less busy weekend (to our surprise) and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We stayed in the Windsor, and had a 'knockless' coffee basket outside our door in the morning, which was great to wake up too. Breakfast was also fantastic. I'll be telling everyone I know about this place. Definitely worth it for a one of a kind date night.
Wonderful dining experience. Delicious food, beautiful grounds, great service. Did not stay at hotel, just went to celebrate my husband's birthday, very nice time.
Had a great time! Service was awesome! Ambience was great! Room was cozy and nice. Beef Wellington was cooked perfectly. Very, very good. Great flaky crust and reduction…..the lobster stuffed walleye was cooked perfectly, but had no flavor. Very, very, very plain and pretty much tasted like nothing. Kind of disappointing. The escargot was amazing! Was pretty disappointed in the breakfast. I got the prime rib and hash. And it said over easy eggs in the description is the reason I got it. The prime rib was well well done (chewy) and my eggs were over well with hardly any yolk. My wife’s vegetable omelette was very good. The pub downstairs was my favorite part. Very cozy and intimate. The bartender is very nice and made some excellent drinks. Had a great time! Food needs some work though. More flavor
We had a great experience staying in cottage room 1 Royal. Loved the look of it so much that we asked them the color scheme, which they duly took time to look up (guessing that was a pain that took them off their work, but they did it kindly)! We sat on the porch, looking out on the river sipping our morning coffee. There's also a fire place, and a bathroom the size of my first apartment. Staff are very accommodating, welcoming, and personable. Loved the ambiance, views, and comfort.
**Five-Star Review for The English Inn in Eaton Rapids** My stay at The English Inn was nothing short of enchanting. This historical inn, steeped in old-world charm, offers a truly unforgettable experience. The dining was simply exquisite—easily a five-star experience. The filet mignon was the best I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The adorable English pub in the basement was the perfect spot for a nightcap, offering a cozy and authentic atmosphere. We stayed in one of the cottages, which was a whimsical and spacious retreat. It was peaceful, with a wonderful Jacuzzi and an awesome balcony overlooking the river—a perfect spot to unwind and take in the serene surroundings. Breakfast was included, and it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was prepared with care, and the staff was amazing—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. This inn holds a special place in my heart, as it’s my favorite spot to celebrate both my birthday and anniversary. I’ve also had the pleasure of celebrating several Christmases here with teammates for our Christmas parties. If you're looking for a memorable getaway that combines history, luxury, and exceptional service, The English Inn is the perfect choice. I can't recommend it highly enough!
I had my wedding here along with several events I've gone to. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Communication from Adriana is top notch. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. Everyone was so helpful, staff was friendly and worked hard! If I could do it again I wouldn't change a thing!
Came here for my birthday dinner! (They don’t really do anything special for birthdays though) The homemade bread rolls and salad were phenomenal!! We should’ve asked for seconds on those… I got the Beef Wellington which tasted great but the portion was way smaller than expected. It reminded me of a sirloin steak wrapped in a pillsbury crescent roll. Glad I got to try it, but probably won’t get it again because of the price. Wife got the prime rib, which came in a good portion size. It tasted good for prime rib, but I think we like other cuts of meat over prime rib. We loved the fancy atmosphere and the antique decorations. You really sink into the chairs here which was surprising but still comfortable. I also liked the low set lighting although it did make it hard to take photos. They took our coats which was rather fancy. We walked around outside and loved seeing all the nice scenery and all the good photo ops! Definitely a good restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, given the prices!
We had a wonderful dinner at The English Inn. The grounds, buildings and rooms are beautiful. Even though we did not stay overnight, we were allowed to look into the room. Each has a different design and layout. All were very nice and comfortable looking. The restaurant was very beautiful inside with old classic charm. Our waitstaff took excellent care of us. They gave good recommendations and were fast and efficient. The food was incredibly tasteful and nicely presented. The cost was on the high end but you certainly got what you paid for at this venue. I would highly recommend that you try it out. It was our favorite restaurant on this trip to Michigan!
I came here from milwaukee for a baby shower in east lansing. I am so glad I was adventurous and tried a bed & breakfast (for the first time!) instead of staying at a generic hotel. we had a wonderful, relaxing weekend here at the english inn, staying in the cotswold room. the grounds are beautiful for a walk in the afternoon; this property really transports you to another time/place! the food is amazing - for both breakfast & dinner! as a vegetarian, I was thrilled to have delicious options - which you don’t see often in restaurants with british-inspired pub food. the staff was so friendly and accommodating. I would love to come back & would definitely recommend the english inn to others!
Had the BEST meal & service at the English Inn Pub this weekend!!!! This was our first time there, we ate on the patio where you can order from the pub or main restaurant. The service was speedy, the beef WAS AMAZING! After dinner we took our drinks to walk the grounds, & down to the river. It was a beautiful night, if you’re looking for yummy casual food def check out the pub!! We also asked if the pub patio was kid friendly & had a menu …yes it is!! We will be back to try more from the menu!
Booked the English Inn for a weekend getaway. Everyone was so pleasant and accommodating from the initial arrival to our departure! The grounds were Immaculate and well kept. The food was fabulous and the selections were more than adequate. I had the Lobster stuffed walleye. It was excellent! Loved the room and the bathroom was perfect! Bed was comfy... The whole experience was wonderful! We'll definitely be returning!!
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!! To top off the exquisite meals, we were also met with the warmest service I think we’ve ever had! Addison was so personable, attentive, and kind, also giving us a good laugh. The property was absolutely stunning as well (: 11/10 recommend to all!
Another fantastic experience at the English Inn! The food, wine, and service is exceptional. The atmosphere and staff provide a kind old world dining experience you cannot get anywhere else in Eaton County. We love treating ourselves here and look forward to coming back for years to come.
A totally unique, high quality, classic and classy hotel experience, especially for Americans. Beautiful property, Impeccable service and gorgeous grounds. Highly recommend.
We were there for my dad's memorial dinner. I can see why he loved this place. It is absolutely beautiful, the food in the restuarant was amazing, and setting was breathtaking. Serivce was outstanding. I plan on going back once a year just to enjoy it as much as he did.
Have gone here for years to eat and was first introduced to it by my father.. Deborah and I were married there in 2011. Have revisited for many dinners and a few overnight stays. Best food amd service of anywhere!! Some of the staff have been around for years and always great to see them again.
Attended a beautiful wedding. Every detail taken care of. Didn't stay- only attended. Great venue, great food, great wedding!
I had a lovely stay at The English Inn. The staff were the highlight. The front desk receptionist was an absolute star. The waitstaff was also a perfect blend of formal but welcoming. We stayed in the Bristol Room. It was in desperate need of a renovation, but was overall cozy. The surround shower was a treat. The in room breakfast was also fantastic, as was the dinner. The lobster soup was a disappointment but the cherry chicken was juicy and beautifully seared.
A breathtaking venue with above and beyond service! I was recently a guest as part of a bridal party this past weekend. The venue was clean, the grounds were gorgeous, the staff was incredible but what set the experience apart for me was the general manager, Joe. I forgot my kindle tablet in my room and didn't realize until I was home and it had been placed in lost and found. He personally assisted in packing it up and helping me get it shipped back home. It was packaged with care and Joe kept me updated through the whole process. I can't wait to make the trip back up for a personal vacation with my husband.
Can't speak for the rooms. Dinner was great. The beef wellington was very good, and the cadence of the service was the best I've ever had. Not a single lull or overly attentive moment.... absolutely seamless. Roger was a phenomenal server with impeccable timing. I will admit I have, on rare occasion, had marginally better food, but the ambiance and service were perfect. 10/10 will be back.
Dinner was excellent. Celebrated our 29 anniversary there. Beef wellington was good. The chicken the wife got was by far the best she has ever had. We did not get a room. I would definitely go back
We have dined frequently, held several events, and had guests hosted at the English Inn. Fantastic all around. Especially the customer service and professionalism is amazing. It's a unique place, well taken care of, and the owner and staff really take pride in the quality of their work.
The English Inn provided exceptional service, breathtaking scenery, and excellent food and drinks. We couldn’t have chosen a better venue for our wedding day! It was magical and breathtaking. We went with their diamond package, reserved the entire day, had our ceremony and reception there, and reserved cottages for multiple nights. Their event coordinator, Adriana, exceeded our expectations with so many details it’s difficult to list everything. One special, beyond expectation moment was how she helped coordinate our marriage certificate signing within the library, complete with champagne and hors devours from the cocktail hour, for an intimate moment with our immediate family members. All staff made great impressions on us and our guests. We had many guests stay at the Inn for the weekend, and all of them were highly impressed. The grounds and estate have been very well maintained, including being freshly mowed the morning of. We’d also like to highlight the kitchen crew and bar staff; they were on top of it! Everyone enjoyed their meals and couldn’t get enough of the specialty cocktails. Overall, we feel and heard from our guests that our wedding was magical, and we know a great deal of that came from the hard work of The English Inn and its staff. It really isn’t possible to write out all the positive feedback we feel and heard from our guests – without writing a book!
This was our honeymoon night and we had the ultimate dinner every bite was fantastic. Prime rib was cooked perfectly and the lobster stuffed walleye was amazing. Salad dressing was a light citrus vinaigrette there was goat cheese and walnuts in the salad. The carrot cake was great but the creme brulee was the best I have ever had. Our room in the cottage was beautiful and had a gas fireplace a Jacuzzi tub and a covered porch . The mimosa breakfast this morning was wonderful. Already planning on when we can go back
Very cool building! Definitely check this place out for a nice evening with family and friends
Went in October of 2023 for an anniversary dinner, we did not stay the night, but had dinner in the dinning room. The atmosphere was just what it looks like, a bygone era of English Country estate's. Warm and inviting, staff where so friendly and kind, our meal was amazing, seasoned well, meat cooks perfectly and such an amazing way to spend a lovely evening to celebrate an anniversary. I can not recommend the Enlish Inn enough for a fabulous meal, looking forward to staying the night soon in the future!
This review is specifically for our dinner experience as we did not stay at the inn. We spent some time in the pub downstairs before dinner and had a really nice chat with our bartender and the server who was attending in the pub. Really friendly service and lovely ambience . Once we were seated for our reservation we were greeted by Hannah who made us feel very welcome and provided us with top-notch hospitality. Great food options; we came in for the prefix menu dinner special and was not disappointed. Everything from the freshly baked roll to our dessert was a great experience for the price. Prime rib was exquisite and perfectly cooked, and everyone else at my table loved their entrées. The hospitality from the staff is what stuck out the most; we received such a warm welcome and we were made to feel well taken care of throughout our experience. Many thanks to Hannah and the rest of the English Inn team for providing such a wonderful evening out.
The dinner was amazing, and such a great deal 2 for$69. I opted for the Beef Wellington for the additional $10, still a great deal. We also stayed in one of the cottages, very nice. Just wish more than a "continental breakfast" was offered. I understand it's more difficult when you're not staying on a Friday or Saturday night to prepare Breakfast for fewer people. Yogurt/granola, muffins and OJ are a bit sugar and carb forward. This won't stop us from coming back, we had a wonderful time. It was a much needed getaway. Thank you English Inn!
For an anniversary or special occasion, this unique property offers far more than just a dinner reservation—it provides an all-encompassing, one-of-a-kind date night experience. Top-Tier Culinary Excellence Our evening began with a moment of tranquility, allowing us to explore the stunning, immaculately kept grounds before dinner. The dining experience itself was nothing short of top-tier. Every course was executed flawlessly, establishing a standard of classical culinary mastery. The French Onion Soup and Mushroom Caps set a rich prelude, leading seamlessly to a Beef Wellington that was both precise and delicious. To finish, the dessert was a memorable conclusion to a genuinely superb meal. The Unexpected Retreat So impressed were we by the ambiance and service that we spontaneously extended our stay, securing a room for the night. This impulse decision proved rewarding. The hostess was exceptionally gracious, providing us with a brief but informative tour that added to the personal touch. We were delighted to find that our stay, in the gorgeous Windsor room, felt incredibly intimate—like having the entire estate to ourselves. The subtle details truly set this experience apart, particularly the thoughtful 'knockless' coffee basket discreetly placed outside our door in the morning. Waking up to fresh coffee delivered without intrusion perfectly encapsulates the level of personalized luxury here. The exceptional quality continued through to a fantastic breakfast. This destination is the epitome of a luxurious, hassle-free getaway. It is a mandatory recommendation for any couple seeking a unique and deeply satisfying romantic escape.
Absolute 10/10! The bartender/server, Christian, is a true gem. He gave us great history about the building & encouraged us to walk around the inn. We even forgot something & he came running out to the car to give it to us. Christian is the type of person that made our experience utterly enjoyable. He deserves a raise! Will definitely be back if Christian is working!
The dessert was awesome, beer smooth too. Great bar tender shared history of the Inn.
We attended a wedding and stayed the night. This place is absolutely beautiful! The grounds look like an old English countryside. As far as the location, if you're looking for a place that feels slightly off the grid than this place is perfect.
Someone generously gave us a gift card for the restaurant and we were impressed by the excellent service, the quality of the meal, the ambiance, and the menu options.
Great venue for a wedding!! We really enjoyed our stay!! The morning breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend.
We went here for my son’s senior banquet. Absolutely beautiful venue, grounds are gorgeous and lots of “private” areas to spend time with your loved ones. Villa and rooms available to stay in as this is a bed and breakfast. The food was very good, the service is exceptional! Over all great place for a date night or special occasion. Come check them out.
6-22-25 We visited for an anniversary celebration, food was served hot and quickly, we had appetizers first with drinks. There was a group of 7 none of us drink alcohol. Everyone enjoyed their meals but the two who ordered the walleye, each said there was no flavor to the fish and very little with the rest of the entree. However, we had asked for refills of our drinks and were told there would be a charge. We were dumbstruck and only drank water. While most of our meals were good, service was great and the restaurant is very nice. The bill for 7 people and appetizers was not cheap and my brother is a good tipper, I couldn't believe the restaurant wouldn't give free refills of our fountain coke, ice tea and lemonaid, I was astonished. All in all, we enjoyed the anniversary celebration just wouldn't suggest the lobster stuffed walleye entree.
Recently we spent a night in one of the cottages and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Our lovely waitress make the meal even better. We were disappointed in our room. For the cost we expected a bit more. The lighting was so poor we were unable to read sitting in a chair. Two lightbulbs were burned out and only one comfortable chair. We had hoped to watch a bit of TV or a movie. The only worthwhile channels were PBS and CNN. Absolutely no movie channels. Only two bottles of water to get us through the evening, night, and morning. Had we shampoos, the very tiny containers would not have been enough. The grounds are beautiful and we so appreciated being surrounded by fall scents and beauty. Hoping English Inn will give more attention to some of the cottage details which though small are most important to your guests.
The service was great, I was disappointed in the portion of my chicken dinner I had, since it was half of the size of a prime rib dinner. It was also dry, my wife meal was great. We've eaten here 4 times, this was 1st time I was disappointed
First time going to the English Inn after a few recommendations for our Anniversary. The service was great and we loved stepping back in time and admiring the history of the place and its gardens. We expected smaller portions and a higher price for the experience, but were very disappointed in the lack of flavor of our meal. We had the lobster stuffed walleye. The fish had no seasoning, just a broiled fish, and the thin layer of lobster it was supposed to be stuffed with also added no flavor. The cream sauce it was topped with was also very bland. It sat on top of a risotto that was good, but also had very little flavor. The server said it was a popular dish so we were very disappointed that it didn’t impress. I saw other reviews mention being unimpressed with the meal as well.
Edit: 1 year later. Had valentines dinner and it was pre pay. The cost was not worth it. Very expensive, the tables were way too close, for over $90 a plate soda should be included. They ran out of half the desserts by 8pm. One roll each, a small arugula salad, 4 mushroom tops, and entree, and dessert. If the serving staff were better I think I would have been happier but I had to ask for butter 3 times. The tables around us were all seated after and they were served first. The bathroom was also not in good shape. ………. Was a guest at a wedding over the weekend and although nice on the surface, there was room for improvement. The walk way down to the ceremony location was a bit steep and the stones were not all secure, the stone steps up to the reception hall also were not all secure to the path and I had to catch myself a few times and I am not a clumsy person nor was I wearing high heels. They did use a golf cart for the older guests to avoid the hazard path. The food was fine, the green beans did not taste cooked they were woody and hard to chew. The soda/pop was lacking carbonation as well, the drinks were very flat. And the staff were too proactive at removing plates and cups. Several times my drink was pulled away when I was not finished and my plate was pulled away from me by 3 separate staff members that did not ask if I was finished. I did notice they asked the men around me if they could clear their plates but did not ask the women, not sure that was intentional but the pattern was noticed.
I have always loved the English inn. We used to dine fairly regularly at the Inn, but the past 2 years we have not( for no particular reason). Recently. I have been wanting to dine there, so tonight we went. Overall, it was a BIG disappointment! We arrived 15 minutes early, but had no issues getting seated as we had an early reservation. Our server was attentive and good. We were to only have our table until 7pm as they had another reservation coming in. I am glad we were early. As it took approximately an hour to get our food. It was after 6:30 when our food arrived and we got there at 5:15. Our server was pleasant and informed us that our meal was delayed due to a large party upstairs ordering ahead of us. Although things weren't paced, we were fine as it was a beautiful summer night and we were enjoying the setting. The issue was when our food did arrive, the portions had shrunk drastically since being there last. I had an entree strawberry salad . It literally had 1 strawberry, 3 small nuts, and honestly, I didn't even notice the goat cheese! There was a lot of lettuce though. The dressing was good. I also had lobster bisque. It was a reasonable portion, however my dad had French onion, and it came in a very small crock! My husband had the beef wellington for his meal. It looked ridiculous when it arrived as it came on a very large dinner plate. It came with about a tbls of mashed potatoes, and a very small/tiny portion of beef wellington. As I said, I was overall very disappointed, and don't think I will be in a hurry to go back. I am guessing they are trying to keep prices down, but really.. a $15 strawberry salad with 1 sm strawberry, and next to no cheese or nuts??! Our server even told us that she had a guest that ordered a side salad and asked if they could put strawberries on it and she was told it would be $4/ berry!! I am fine with the big ticket items, like meat being shrunking, but a tbls of mashed potatoes with an entree??!! Maybe the potatoes should be ala carte?! I would rather have slight increases in price then to have the items be so incredibly small.
The experience is beautiful; the grounds are gorgeous. If you're looking for an experience, this is a very fun place. The food, however, is not very good. The portions are very small for the price, which I would be a lot more okay with if it was exceptional quality. The piped mashed potatoes were made from instant potatoes. The salmon en papillotte was bland and very overcooked. The beef Wellington's pastry was made of pie crust. The hassle back potatoes were dry. Every time I come here, the food is very bland and of the cheapest quality they can manage. If you're looking for an overall experience, this is a great place. But if you're specifically looking for fine dining, I would advise you to spend your money elsewhere.
Restaurant review: Don’t fall for a heated conservatory. It’s a plexiglass box with a space heater. That was strike one. Strike two what horrible service. We were just handed menus and said here you go. Came back around a short time later explained nothing and asked what we wanted to order. The beef Wellington was soggy all around with an overcooked steak in it. The mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy the red wine sauce was inedible tasted like salt and raw alcohol still. Prime rib was just ok. The gingerbread cake dessert was beyond dry. The salad was spring mix that looked to be what I’d get on clearance at the local grocery store. The dressing on the salad was good and the slice of toast served with the salad was ok. The lobster bisque was probably the best part of the meal but barely any hint of lobster there. Mocktails also horrible. The baked brie used store bought butterfly shaped crackers. Are you kidding? Had high hopes but would not return.
On 2/12/26 I ordered the house cut of prime rib. The absolute worst prime rib I have ever been served. Tough and full of sinew. I should have sent it back. Addison our server was great.
I am still in disbelief at how disgusting and horrible the room was. I have stayed in many historic B&B and Inns over the years and I have never seen such a filthy, run down, Goodwill furniture looking room. If we had not been there for a wedding I would not have stayed. The bathroom looked like it was from 1980, grime in the shower track, shower doors off track and just swinging from top. Old dirty tile. The room was dimly lit so that you could not see well and that was probably a blessing. There was no daily housekeeping service, they just threw some towels on the bed. One sliver of soap and maybe .25 ounce of shampoo and conditioner. We were traveling with family and had 2 rooms and the other room was equally disgusting. The only saving grace was the breakfast, which was good.
As a tradition we celebrate special occasions at the English Inn Pub. This year (for my birthday) my husband made reservations for 9 of us for the pub. We arrived as a family slightly early for our reservation time of 5:00. All tables in the pub were designated with reservation names and times. Ours was not one of them. The library room was occupied with a party. There was confusion and after checking it was determined that a table was reserved upstairs in the dining area (not what we reserved). I made it clear that we were not dressed for the more formal area nor were we wanting the more formal ($$$) menu choices. The only thing that was said to us was that we would be in a more private area (so essentially our attire wouldn’t be an issue). No mention or offer was made for the pub menu. After so many years of patronage, this service was disappointing to say the least. I’m not sure who dropped the ball on this. Could be the person that took the reservation should have alerted my husband that the pub area could not accommodate our large group and that we would have to be put in the main dining area and hence, order off the main dining menu, which is considerably more money. This was not suggested to my husband at the time which I feel should have been. I just feel disappointed by the way, the situation transpired.
This was one of my favorite places to dine for special occasions. A bus person used improper pronouns when none was needed. Our wait staff addressed the issue with the manager and chef. However, none except her apologized. We asked for our dinners to be boxed up. They knew we were leaving. They were intentionally absent when we left. Our family won’t be back. Comping food doesn’t address the problem.
The dining rooms and establishment itself were beautiful. I loved seeing their Christmas decorations and old fashioned Victorian style furniture. However, I recommend you eat at a less fancy place for cheaper because the food was horrible here and we found 100x more enjoyment eating baskin robins ice cream after because we were so disappointed. Our service was poor and our waitress’s mildly pleasant disposition felt forced. Don’t worry, we were kind and smiled and used polite manners so you can be sure it wasn’t because we were rude. We believe it was likely because she didn’t think we seemed wealthy enough since we were splitting our dishes(even though we spent $90). And don’t even get me started on the food. Tiny portions, completely flavorless, unseasoned, and unsalted. Huge waste of money. Perhaps the reviews are so good because of those who stay in the rooms there or because their target demographic is old rich white people whose taste buds have long since died.
Beware. This property presents well. Very pretty building and grounds. Likely picturesque for weddings. Good food. However, our room left something to be desired (cleanliness and basic maintenance/repair were issues) and the bathroom was…literally…the WORST I’ve ever experienced in my 58 years of living and traveling many places in the US and other countries. Focusing on the bathroom, the sink drained extremely slowly, to the point that one wondered if it was draining at all, and the tub faucet cycled from flowing little water to…again, literally…none. The worst part is that it became apparent that management had to have been aware of the issues for a very long time. At least 11 years based on at least one old review I found. But it doesn’t stop them from not warning customers in advance and charging full prices. I wrote a very lengthy and detailed email of complaint to management after my stay. To his credit, the GM called me to discuss my experience. But it confirmed my belief that they knew of the issues. I was offered a better stay in the future if I find myself in the area again, but I have my doubts that the water issues will be overcome. Besides the water issues (a hotel without adequate basic water service in the US?), it’s a shame that several of the other issues in the room (cleanliness and basic maintenance/repair) would be really easy fixes. The fact that they were neglected, and for apparently a long time, is a very large and telling red flag.
I regret not taking pictures. This almost 5 (should be 3) star establishment is way over priced. The bed sheets were dirty - it was blood, rust, or food - when we entered, the girl was pretty quick to replace but not change them. There is no phone in the room. The TV functions, but it's bad picture. It's an old TV. We made a dinner reservation for 6. The waitress was nice, but that's it. Me and my husband went the entire meal without refills - we asked several times to more than one person, I had one diet coke and he had two teas. I'm not sure who we were sitting next to, but from the very very loud conversation it (I couldn't hear my husband or myself) sounded like the man at the table worked there. The food was okay. I got the duck and he got the fillet. We should have saved our money and time, we should have just went to Texas Roadhouse. Half the price and just as good. Breakfast was not great either. ^ I'm behind disappointed, I'm angry. For $400, we should have at the very least got a clean room and good food. We got a $200 experience for $400. Note: We went here on our wedding day, 5 years ago. The food was great, the staff was great, but we didn't have a room. I don't know if it's because something has changed over the years or that I've had the chance to experience a $350 food bill that was worth it. I don't know how to stress this enough. Save your money.
We went here for Valentine's day tonight for a preset menu. Everything was just kind of off. When we arrived and they went to seat us, they didn't pay attention to our reservation number of 4 people and tried to seat us at a two person table. I had to call out that we had 4 people. A four seater wasn't ready so they asked us to wait in the pub, but then the other half of our party got seated and they never told us that the table was ready. The service for our table took way too long. Our reservation was for 730 and we didn't walk out until 1015. Other tables that were seated 15 or 20 minutes after is were served before us. We didn't get appetizers until almost 830, an hour after we had been seated. Service was just incredibly slow. Then when it was finally time for dessert, they had run out of 3 of the 5 dessert offerings. Two of us at our table had no interest in the flourless tort or the coffee cheesecake, but we were not offered any option and we had to ask if it was possible to get a refund because we had prepaid for the meal. We were instead offered a gift certificate for the cost of the dessert. Then we learned that they actually only had one piece of the cheesecake left, which is what two people at our table wanted. After all this, we sat at the table for another 15-20 minutes and I am pretty sure we were forgotten about. We finally had to get up from the table and find someone in the pub to ask for our drink bill so we could pay and leave. The waitress had not even run up the drinks yet or generated the bill. They whole thing left a pretty bad taste in our mouth and we will not being going back. For the amount that we paid, the food was only mediocre and there are many better places to eat in the Lansing area.
December 8th, 2025 From the moment we talked with someone at the front desk, we knew it was going to be a nightmare. The employees at the front are so incompetent, unknowledgeable and rude. The inn is run so awful. Our room had no toilet paper and by the time we noticed, because we had left to go to dinner with our party, the place was closed so we had to go out in a snow storm and get our own. Furthermore, we had requested and got approved for an early check in, but when I called to triple check on it, bc we came in from WI, they said we didn’t have one. So we couldn’t check in til 3. Lastly, when we came back from dinner with our wedding party, we no remote and because the inn was closed we couldn’t even enjoy our TV to snuggle up and watch a movie. I will definitely not be coming back. This place needs some training on customer service. And that’s saying a lot coming from someone who has worked in customer service for over 25 years. I will be telling my company to not stay at the English Inn ever.
I was invited for a steak dinner When I got there, I was turned away because they wanted to save it for some new people. They weren't even courteous enough to call me & tell that we're full. I was invited two weeks prior to February 5, but they didn't have the courtesy to let me know prior to my driving 38 miles to get to the English inn. Pretty shitty if you ask me. I left very unsatisfied with evening. Robert Harris
As a British person living in Lansing, the food on this menu is not what you’d find on that of a real English pub. The prices also compared to a real British pub, are extortionate. It’s a shame as I’d have liked to find a little comfort of home. If you want British food, find a recipe online that’s authentic.
