Anybody living outside the Grizzly Flat area would maybe not know of this gem or know of the new ownership and chef. We were a party of 4, each had something different, each dish delicious. No to go boxes needed. Wine stock has variety and is priced nicely. Dessert was scrumptious. Can't wait to get back.
Awesome place, owned and operated by locals ! We've eaten there a few times and every lunch entree has been yummy and fresh. This is not fast food!
I cannot express how much I enjoyed dining here! The service was as good as the food and the food absolutely divine. I enjoyed every bite from the freshly made bread paired with compound butters, the lovely salad, premium risotto paired with perfectly cooked shrimp, to ending with the most incredible cheesecake I have ever had (biscoff). I also really enjoyed the sake drink “Spill the Tea” which had a nice southern sweet tea flavor with peach but loved that it was gently sweet and not overly sweet. I highly recommend trying this place out and I cannot wait to go back!
Delicious meals across the board. From appetizers to desserts all was fresh, thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. I ordered the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. For appetizers, I especially loved the Brussels & the calamari. Everyone in our party of eight really enjoyed their dinners and the warm, personable service. Very talented people own and run this restaurant and have created a truly special place. Thank you Piper & Lisa for a wonderful evening!
Just had a fantastic time for dinner. Wife had the spring Risotto with butter, Parmesan, and jumbo shrimp. I had the ribeye with mash. Both were perfection. I thought the shrimps were especially well executed (most places overcook). Desserts were also amazing (Biscoff cheesecake and cherry cheesecake) Piper was the best front of house manager I e experienced in ages! 10/10, definitely coming back and highly recommend coming here if you haven’t already!
Amazing, went for lunch expecting nothing special. Until I was delivered lunch, it was absolutely outstanding. I recomend this resturand to everyone.
Amazing food and ambience! Service is top notch as well! Two different "themed" dining rooms to choose from and a seasonal menu that doesn't disappoint. Their risottos are always cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Tough to narrow down their "best" dish because everything is excellent here. A few of my favorites, just to name a few; are their various seasonal salmon dishes, fish tacos, lion's main appetizer (when available), Guinness pot roast and their clam chowder and lobster bisque are also great! Various other soups to choose from and they are all great. (I think I have had them all) Portions are definitely generous, bread is always fresh, with usually one or two different infused butters to choose from. Above all, it's apparent that their dishes are made with the kindness, love and care they genuinely possess and share, which is made known the second you walk in the door. Desserts are always great as well, wine and beer list is awesome and I almost forgot to mention that their dishes are all topped with fresh, hydroponic herbs, along with a quick description of what they are and what to expect in terms of flavor. This place is such a hidden gem, located up in the El Dorado wine country just a few miles from Grizzly Flat, Happy Valley and Somerset/Fairplay. ~corner of E16 and Bucks Bar Rd. Perfect place to bring the family and cozy enough for couples, too. Highly recommend giving them a try! If you don't love your first experience (which I'm confident you will), then I suggest giving them another try. Family owned and operated by genuine, caring folks that truly want you to enjoy your experience and leave satisfied, hopefully to return!
This is our new go-to restaurant close to home! The menu was very versatile which brought us in to begin with! The home made bread AND butter was to die for. The coconut shrimp was amazing and paired with a pineapple coleslaw that was delicious. I got the tom yum soup and he got the house salad with white balsamic vinaigrette and both were equally so good. Dinner we ordered the ribeye and a pumpkin risotto with salmon. Everything was cooked to perfection. This mother-daughter owned and ran restaurant is a hidden gem!
First of all, this restaurant is run by an incredible mother-daughter duo! Piper is seriously amazing! She literally works doubles every day, except her days off, but still… she’s been a part of my dining experience TWICE and is just a rock star. I love dining here when I come into town for work. I come back every time - AND YOU SHOULD TOO!
We found this little gem and stopped for lunch and were pleasantly surprised! The food was an outstanding. We had a Ruben sandwich and a prime rib French dip sandwich. Piper took good care of us. We will be back!!
Went to this restaurant right after a tiring camping trip, and the breakfast foods were amazing! The southern potatoes are top notch; soft in the middle, crispy on the outside. Will be going again!
Lovely little place, good food, will definitely be back again! 👍
One of favorite restaurants. The food is delicious and locally sourced. The portions are generous so you won’t ever leave still feeling hungry. The best part of coming here is that they treat us like family. The menu changes each season so there is a lot of variety to try and they offer vegetarian and vegan options. Lisa makes the best soups I have ever had. Each week I look forward to her next soup offering.
An amazing restaurant! The staff is so welcoming, and the food really hits it out of the park! Each dish is beautifully put together and presented. The food is locally sourced and seems really high end. The staff takes the time to point out where the ingredients come from (including if they grew it themselves) which is so cool! Definitely recommend coming to the area just for the food at this restaurant, never mind all the wineries in the area.
Awesome little bistro owned by mom (chef) and daughter (server). Great food featuring house grown hydroponic micro greens. Try the Thai fries. Also if you like dry ciders, the black cider and raspberry lemonade cider are both awesome.
Such a gem! Everything from the delightful food (served with different kinds of freshly clipped microgreens to complement the dish), thoughtful service (I sat near the kitchen and could hear the staff discussing how to best take orders and get food out quickly), to lovely decor and music (ambiance!). There are two rooms, one more for a date night and another family-friendly room. I can't wait to return.
Excellent service and food! I got the lobster bisque, shrimp cocktail, NY steak, and a baked potato. Everything was cooked to perfection and our waitress was the best!
The food was excellent and my server- I think her name was pipers? (That’s what it said on the receipt anyway)- gave me easily the best service I’ve received since I’ve been in California. Only criticism is I asked to try the lions mane mushroom cakes as an appetizer and she made it happen, but didn’t tell me they would be $16 and they were very small, yet delicious. I still give the food and the service five stars though. Great job
We are so fortunate to have this top notch restaurant at our doorstep! Chef Lisa has exceptional skill and creative talent. Everything we've tried there is absolute perfection, beautifully presented and garnished with tasty microgreens. Their ingredients are locally sourced, which is important to us. And for what you get, the price tag is surprisingly reasonable. Be sure to try their diver scallops and wild mushroom risotto. So delicious!
This place was an amazing stop today while wine tasting. It’s often hard to find good food in these areas but this place had really delicious fresh options and the service is also fantastic. Highly recommend!
A surprising spot in Somerset, the food is very good and lots of it is locally sourced. The food was very good. We enjoyed the Rib-eye and the flank steak with chimichurri as well as the lobster bisque and sausage stuffed mushrooms. Definitely worth stopping in when you are in El Dorado County!
Why didn't I come here sooner? The food was delicious perfection in decent sized portions. The lamb was so good I wanted to eat every bite, garden grown herbs freshly cut topped several chops with roasted potatoes and asparagus. The fish tacos were huge and stuffed full, and the fries were crispy. The lobster bisque was rich and creamy and even the side salad was fresh, full of delicious veggies. And let's not forget the fresh baked bread and house made butters, cinnamon and nutmeg in one and garlic, Parmesan and sun dried tomatoes in the other. I haven't even gotten to the dessert yet. An excellent selection of beers and ciders along with more than a few lovely wines. Piper our waitress was attentive, greeted everyone at the door and was just as nice as could be. She greeted customers she knew by name and remembered their drink preferences. She also managed to check on everyone regularly which was impressive considering she seemed to be the only waitress. I'm not really sure if I should leave such a good review, it might be hard to get a table next time I go. Lol If you live anywhere nearby and haven't checked this restaurant out you are missing a wonderful meal and a lovely place.
Great spot to have lunch! Although they seemed pretty short staffed when we were there, Crystal did an amazing job taking care of everyone in the place and kept a really positive attitude despite being stretched really thin. The wait time was a little extended but we had delicious drinks and lovely conversation to lean into during that time. Thanks for a great lunch! We will definitely be back!
Great little restaurant in the middle of the hill country. A great gem! Outdoor seating isn’t the most relaxing atmosphere because it’s right on the road and parking lot, but the inside looked really nice and artistic. The food was great especially the fried Brussels sprouts! Even though there was only 1 waitress she was a sweetheart and did her best to service everyone as it did get busy by 6pm! And they have to stop taking customers once it gets too busy, so go early or make reservations as I saw a few parties of people had to get turned away to max capacity. Definitely will go again!
Great food and service at Gold Vine Bistro! We got the Shrimp Scampi and the Veggie Risotto. Both dishes were fantastic. The lobster bisque and side salad were wonderful! Services was amazing! We will definitely come again!
Local and amazing! This little restaurant serves up big flavors with care and love. When you walk through the door you feel like family. The staff is amazing and the food is too! Such a delightful place to celebrate a birthday, holiday or just have a great meal. Valentines Day had a separate menu that rocked!!
My wife and i ordered the burgers and we were amazed by their size! Well worth the price. The beer was fantastic coming from Amador brewing Co. Waitress was awesome and polite. This place is a hidden gem in the moutains the drive is long to get there though. If you come here be prepared to eat hearty as the portion sizes here are no joke! Dessert was fantastic!
What is a cook like this doing on the little mountain crossroads? Ribeye French Dip had the meat that was not just buttery tender, but also the tastiest beef I had in about 10 years. Sweet potato fries were perfectly salted & crisp. Lemonade was awesome too, *finally* a place that doesn't over-sweeten lemonade! The only thing that left something to desire is French press coffee, which tasted a little weak and metalic (kind of the grinder burn flavor, maybe). Everything else was worth a fine dining five star restaurant in any fancy destination.
We enjoyed a weekend brunch. The omelet was cooked to perfection, and the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The burger was monsterous. Country Gravy was yummy with fresh baked bread.
Everything was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, it’s upscale dining without the pretentious atmosphere. Serving sizes are generous and the dishes are very flavorful. I definitely recommend the Grilled Artichoke appetizer and the Bourbon Caramel Bread Pudding. The Clam Chowder, the Cabernet Beef Tips, and the Scallops Risotto were great as well. This place is a gem!
Wow what an amazing restaurant and bar! My girlfriend and I had a great lunch here without paying high prices. Our burgers were only $10 each! I highly recommend stopping by here for lunch or dinner. It felt very high end and the service was fantastic. A mother and daughter own and run the place together. It feels like a special gem. Next time we will enjoy free tasting in their wine tasting room located right next door after our meal!
My wife and I were in the area and decided to stop by to see what the place would be like, and upon walking in, we were very pleased by the look and feel of the place, we were greeted and seated by a super sweet waitress. The food was absolutely delicious, we felt like like we got far more than we paid for. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area, definitely won't be disappointed.

Attended for the prime rib special. Food was excellent, beer selection was local and so are the meats and vegetables. Great staff and very attentive to needs and requests. Meal, service, and price 10/10. On a side not desserts by Sugar Shay are an excellent end to a fantastic meal.
We truly enjoyed our experience at Gold Vine Bistro! Piper was very friendly and knowledgeable about the details of the food and their sustainability practices. She and her mom, Chef Lisa, own and run the very welcoming place. They provide many healthy and vegan/vegetarian options which is greatly appreciated. The Spring Risotto, Lobster Bisque and Greek Salad were all delicious! And we loved all the house-grown micro greens! We look forward to our next visit!
I brought 25 people here for dinner and Pre-ordered the food. The wait-staff was amazing, the cook/owner was incredible. Food was ready on time, was plated beautifully and tasted wonderful. I was in awe that such a small restaurant in a little mountain town could not only handle a group of 25, but absolutely knocked it out of the park.
This bistro has great food! I started with a garden salad that contained an assortment of crisp greens and vegetables with their white balsamic vinaigrette. It was very nourishing. Dinner was the Mustard-Glazed Salmon, which was a large, perfectly cooked filet with savory dijon. There was a plentiful assortment of vegetables on top and creamy polenta below. Each forkful was a delight. Service is pleasant and efficient. There are good local wines available by glass and bottle. This will be a regular on my rotation.
Lisa, the owner & her daughter Piper are the greatest! We live in Somerset & to have such a wonderful restaurant so close is awesome! I can’t say enough about how good the food is. My husband & I went there on Valentines Day! They had some specials that sounded amazing! I had a sea bass in a tomato & artichoke sauce that was so delicious! Worth every penny! We have brought our friends there & they love it too! Piper makes ordering so easy & is so friendly! Always consistently upbeat & sweet! I know it’s not easy to run a restaurant but Lisa & Piper do a fantastic job! Thank you to all of you who work there!
The fact that is this family owned and operated, buys produce from local farms and supports other small businesses is enough of a reason to love this place. But on top of all that, the food is amazing and some of the best customer service I have received. (Also huge portion sizes and not pricey) 10 out of 10

Very kind, nice waitress, don't let the small size of the restaurant fool you! This places serve delicious hearty meals, you must try them out. We recently came for a birthday get together and my oh my was it an experience. The cake we had was made in house by the waitress and her mother is the chef and I can't say enough how kind and attentive they were.
I really like the idea of their menu in getting gourmet food someplace out here in the foothills. The reason for my low rating is the service and getting your food is way too slow. We went there a couple Valentine's dates. The first one we had to wait about almost an hour for our food but drinking wine it wasn't that bad. This last time we didn't get our food for an hour and a half. The waitress spent most of her night apologizing to everybody but since that happened twice we won't be going back regretfully. I wish they would staff up more even in the kitchen or waitressing whatever the problem is. We've talked about trying them for a lunch sometime that would be slower because we like to support local businesses, but because it's sort of ruined our mood on the last Valentine visit, probably not.
Ordered fettuccine with medallions of beef. Medallions full of fat and so rare I could not eat. I had requested “just a little pink”. It’s a good thing my husband likes his scallops rare because rare they were. Dessert choices were very limited. Very disappointing as I had read such good reviews. We will not go back.
The food was cold and not what I ordered. I told the waitress who was excellent and very cheerful.she asked if I wanted it warmed up.wich we all know means do you want me to put it the microwave and heat it up.I said no thanks.the next thing I know her mom who is apparently the cook was sitting at my table telling me that her daughter was sitting in the corner in the kitchen crying.my wife ordered shrimp scampi and had to pull the shrimp out and peel them.the woman said well I use easy peel shrimp because they dry out outherwise.i do feel sorry for her daughter and she was great but we will never go there again
