We were so hungry that I skipped the photo and downed it in no time! I think the bbq bowl is a totally unique and refreshing idea! Hey, it all goes in the same place anyway. Put away your OCD and mix it all up. Delicious! Meat is tender and sauce is so good. And that corn! Mama!
A little bit prices for my taste buds, but very good.
This is the best BBQ place in Texas! I always get the best food. I met the owner Greg Myer today, super great guy as well as the rest of the staff, everyone makes you feel like your at home. I wish I could rate this place with more stars. Me and my crew can’t get enough of this place, if you haven’t been here you need to ASAP.
Authentic! Great portions and many sauces available. The street (creamed) corn was delicious!
Had about a two hour lunch meeting here. I pass by this place a couple times a week for work and have never stopped until now. Food was fantastic and despite it being a Friday ay lunch, there was ample seating and the atmosphere was great.
I've been told about Meyers for 10 years. I've been in TX and finally got around to trying it. Very good, BBQ. We got the 3 meat plate. Chicken was delicious, and the pork ribs and decent prices. Wish the Hill Country had something like this. Also there sauce is amazing. Will be back next time we come through Elgin.
Great people & great service. Food was excellent 👌🏽
Finally was able to stop by and try their BBQ - had some moist and tasty Brisket and their turkey is great too. I’ll be back
The food was delicious but they forgot the side of sauce with my plate, it was still worth it but I will double check next time!
Very authentic Texas BBQ. String salt and black pepper, not a hint of sweetness. Brisket and turkey were tender. No bbq sauce on the table, texas pepper sauce. Like a mild Tabasco with additional flavor. I personally love this spicy central texas style BBQ, but if you think sweet baby rae's (sugar sauce) is your idea of bbq, or don't like a little heat this may not be for you. Pepsi products, and unsweetened tea was fresh.
I Love Meyer's. Their moist brisket is like eating MEAT CANDY. Their beef sausage is the best in the country. In fact I will NOT eat other sausages unless it is Meyer's
Traveling past from Amsterdam we took the chance to try true Texan BBQ. We dropped in by Meyers Elgin Smokehouse. Met by Cregg with so much passion and inthusiasm over their craft and the history of their family with spices on display. We received some samples of amazing BBQ. Dont miss out!!
Finally made it!! Worth it! I love the smoke and their spices on the brisket!! I ordered some burnt ends and it did not disappoint!! My new fav bbq!! Wow, I'm very impressed. I'll try some sides next time! Just meat this trip!
This was such a great party pack for the Super Bowl. The food was amazing, a large amount for the price, everyone loved it!
got the 3 meat plate with Brisket (always order moist), sausage and ribs. Sodes were mac n cheese and pinto beans. Lets break it down Brisket 🤤 8.5/10. Great seasoning, beautiful bark, juicy and tender Ribs 7.8/10. Seasoning was decent and perfect bite through tenderness Sausage 9/10. The sausage is spot on (which it should be seeing as how Elgin is the sausage capital lol) Mac n cheese 7.8/10. Moist and creamy. Flavor was good but could use a tad bit more cheese flavor. Definitely one of the better restaurant quality mac n cheese. Beans 5/10. Not sure what happened here but first bite was lacking flavor. I spoke with the wonderful staff and they brought me some of the bean seasoning. Much better once I added seasoning. Staff 10/10 very nice and welcoming. Overall 8.0
I honestly haven’t the words to justify the greatness that this place is. Meyer is a family owned business and has existed in the area for 25 years. I stopped by for lunch here with a friend and can I say this is some of the best BBQ I have tasted in my life. One of the owners Gregg came over to introduce himself and gave us a little bit of the history of the place and he was a delight to be around. You have to try the Cowabunga which for me is a favorite (a combination of the most tender beef brisket and Pork sausage), along with the Mexican cream corn and Mac and cheese. I can’t say enough about this place but they also are one of the few BBQ joints to feature cupcakes, specifically speaking the German Chocolate Cupcake with icing that will melt in your mouth and represents the best end to a great meal. Thank you Gregg and we’ll definitely be back
While looking at properties around the area I read about this smokehouse and boy am I glad we stopped by here! The portions are massive and the staff is so great! Southern hospitality at its finest! The BBQ was phenomenal; my wife and I particularly loved the Pork Sausage! You definitely can't go wrong with the Pit Boss Sampler Platter which allows you to get a taste of a variety of meats! I highly, highly recommend this place if you're looking for some amazing BBQ, especially sausages!
My family and I are in the process of moving to Elgin. Coming down 290, there's a huge sign with a brisket burger dripping with sauce. Caption on the billboard reads, "Please, dont lick the sign!" At that point, after we finished laughing about the billboard, we knew we had to give the place a shot. The family wasnt with me, but I was in Austin for work and decided to make the drive into Elgin to check on our house that's being built and of course, to give Meyer's the good ole fashion college try. Ladies and gentlemen, the place certainly does not disappoint! Sausage was cripy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. Great taste that certainly hit the spot. Then the brisket was just calling out my name. I tore into it with great expectation. The BBQ sauce hit my tongue and it was a bit sweet, but tangy all at the same time. I knew this was gonna be a treat, but the great stuff was still to come. The brisket slide through the teeth like butter on a piece of bread. It had fantastic color and just as tender as you could imagine. I moved onto the sides: mac and cheese with mashed potatoes. Good ole country comfort food. The cheese on the mac dripped from each noodle and carried over to each bite. Good consistency and lightly salted just as you'd expect a good mac and cheese to be. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy, but just as smooth as butter. They use real potatoes cause you can tell the difference between fake and real taters (no comments from the peanut gallery! you know who you are!). Man, with the grub so far delicious, I still had dessert to give a whirl. I'm a big peach or cherry cobbler kinda guy, so I dug my spoon into my helping of syrup smothered goodness. Oh my, my, my, my, MY! This was excellent peach cobbler. Peaches were sweet with just the right amount of crust throughout the small bowl I got. To tell you the truth, this meal was missing 2 very important things. One, a good piece of bread. They use good ole fashion white bread here. Not bad with a delicious BBQ dinner, but nothing like a fresh loaf out of the oven piece of bread like another BBQ place has that I've visited in Keller, TX. The other thing that was missing... my family. This would have been the greatest dinner in the world had they been with me. Definitely, next time though. Enjoy everyone... bon appetit!
We make this a standard visit at the end of any road trip headed home that passes through Elgin. In addition to our lunches, we often end up headed home with a couple of pounds of meat and some family sized sides. The moist brisket was fall-apart-in-your-mouth tender. The sausage was juicy and packed with flavor and the “snap” of the casing is a testament to the freshness of the meats served here. If it is a day when you can get the elusive “dreamsicle orange cupcake” take advantage. It is delicious. Service is always friendly. You cannot beat Meyer’s for quality Texas BBQ.
Outstanding!!!!!!! I am generally not too much of a BBQ fan - Meyer's just changed my mind and would be my absolute go-to place if we lived closer by here. I enjoyed a Brisket Potato and Garlic Sausage - my husband was truly impressed by the quality of the brisket on his "Cowabunga" sandwich. The Texas Gold BBQ Sauce is to live for 😁🥰🤩 I would give 10 stars if I could.
The food is absolutely amazing! We've been there a couple times, both times i had the turkey plate with green beans and Mexico style creamed corn. The beans were good, but the turkey was spectacular, and only topped by the creamed corn. The corn is slightly spicy, which was just perfect in my opinion. Turkey was moist but not overly do, with outstanding smoke flavor. Meyer's is a fun place, pretty much set up like any other Texas barbecue, but dang, their food is great! Employees are very nice, helpful and efficient. Update: my cousin from Alabama was in town, so i took her to Meyer's. She especially loved the smoked turkey. Always good food!
Had a lovely chat with the staff and it was early…11am but I wanted a meat snack after donut at Elgin donut…I got a pound of ribs and ate them with their Texas BBQ and Honey Mesquite BBQ sauces. Clean place. Nice clean restroom. Delicious tender big St. Louis pork ribs. Will be back for the famous Sausage and ofcourse some moist succulent Brisket.
It was a pleasure to record video commercials for Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse! The Meyer Family has been crafting mouthwatering sausages and smoked meats for over 75 years. The BBQ restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring signature brisket, ribs, turkey breast, and award-winning sausages. Private Party Room is perfect for the family gathering or corporate events. I loved the ribs and brisket at Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse!!! Make sure you check out the Smokehouse in Elgin, TX.
My husband Eric Newton and I rode 2 hours on our bikes to go check out this restaurant. It was so worth the time and ride. I have NEVER had brisket that was as good as theirs. It was moist, tender and the flavor was amazing. Usually when I get brisket, it's usually stringy, but not this. Not just the food being good, the people were very nice. We had a great conversation with one of the owners Greg Meyers. We so enjoyed listening to the stories about how the family started the business. All the recipes were handed down and never been altered over the years. The atmosphere is very nice. Want to say thank you to Garret for taking pictures of my husband and I. If you want really good bar-b-que, other foods and dessert with good service, you definitely need to go there. My husband and I will definitely be going back.
Great selection of BBQ, unique sandwiches, and specials! First time here on a work Transport. Quick, friendly service and a great atmosphere with plenty of tables. Our BBQ beef sandwiches were excellent! They have daily specials. There are plenty of sides to choose from and some different Blue Bell ice cream flavors for dessert! Highly recommend!

The ppl were friendly. The green beans tasked like aluminum, the Mac needed more flavor, the ribs should have been cooked slower so they cook longer. The sausage and brisket were perfect. I forgot to take pictures again😬
This was the second time I tried to order the chicken plate online with Uber delivery. It shows a chicken plate but it is not listed as an option on the online menu. I called and asked if it was available and it was. I had to drive there to pick it up. Please make the chicken plate selection available for online ordering. Every other meat is listed. Your food is good.
They have a great selection of BBQ, but this is the first BBQ joint that I have been to that doesn't have jalapenos on the fixings bar. To me that is weird.
Very good brisket, beef sausage not as good as I anticipated, potato salad exceptional and Mexican creamed corn so so. Peach cobbler just so so. Very comfortable place and would definitely go back. Tried the turkey and probably best turkey I've ever eaten!
Brisket and sausage - now that is what I call the breakfast of champions. You have to love an impromptu car trunk picnic -- since I got there well before Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse opened, just a short walk from Southside Market. Fortunately Meyer's has drive-thru starting at 8am... The brisket was very tasty. But the sausage stole the show! Really good stuff! A worthwhile stop on a Houston to/from Austin road trip, even at breakfast time. BBQ is a breakfast food, right?
Food is good, always has been. Have eaten here for years. This is where I bring "out of town" family for a taste of Texas BBQ. BUT THE PRICES HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ROOF! $42.72 for lunch! Guess I'll be eat'n elsewhere from now on :-( yea yea I know Biden, COVID, inflation, cost of hay, etc. Too dang expensive for me anymore.
This is an iconic barbeque place if you're in town for a couple of days. Today was my first visit and I had a huge Pigzilla sandwich for lunch! (Which was a load of pulled pork topped with TWO sliced pork sausage and grilled onion - and, God! - it was delicious.) This thing was like 5 inches round and 4 inches tall! 😂 I don't drink coke and stuff so my bill was just a shade over $10 for the sandwich. Since I'm going to be in this area for a few weeks, there's plenty of time for me to try their Cowabunga sandwich, which - you guessed it - is filled with barbequed beef meats. And, of course, they have the regular barbeque meats too, which I'll try and then come back and update this review.
The pork ribs and turkey were excellent. For sides I had the potato salad and cole slaw, both of which were really good. Because we went at off peak hours, we were able to engage the staff, talk bbq and some local history. We bought several packages of sausages to go, as we were too full to sample. Definitely worth the stop and we'll be back whenever we come to town.
Well this was on my list to come visit while I was in Texas so I did. Im a huge bbq fan and this place was pretty good. Just dont get the German chocolate cupcake it was horrible (wish I saved that $3.50) but the plate I got was decent. The green beans can be skipped as well, they had no flavor at all.
Everyone has their own idea of the perfect barbecue place, and mine is in Driftwood, Texas, with huge open pits, the option of outdoor seating under live oaks, friendly wait staff, and a rustic atmosphere. Meyer’s does not fall into those categories. You stand in line, read the menu from the board or card, and tell the person behind the register your order, which is delivered to your table a bit later. You get your own plastic knives and forks. The dining room lacks much character, though the wooden ceiling does add some warmth. The food, however, was delicious. I got a sandwich that had brisket, beef sausage, and grilled onions, as well as a side order of Mexican cream corn. My friend got a pulled pork sandwich. We were both happy with our food. If you like beer with your BBQ, your options are limited. I asked the woman taking my order what beers they had, and she said, “I don’t know; they are in the cooler over there.” The cooler was behind the counter and had a glass door, so all I could see were Coors Light and Bud Light. There were a couple of others but you get the drift. There is a wonderful mural just inside the door. That and the food are worth coming for. But it ain’t the one in Driftwood.

Drove through around 530 pm and ordered a sausage sandwich. Had one about 3 weeks ago and it was awesome. This one not so much. Sausage was hard and dry not juicy at all. Bread was a little hard. Good BBQ is like a good steak you should not need sauce. I needed sauce for this one as it was just to dry without it. Service was good and atmosphere I gave 3 stars because I did not go in but food today was average at best
As long time Central Texan having grown up in Manor Tx, Elgin BBQ has always been one of those staples I’ve always cherished. However upon dining in I realized why my family always preferred Southside Market and why I don’t have any childhood memories visiting Meyer’s. The overall appearance inside the restaurant walking in is quite pleasant, lots of historic photos and art work and the place is very clean. The staff inside give off absolutely depressing vibes no smiles whatsoever. The young girl that took my order almost looked like she had just lost someone in the family how sad she looked. After ordering my plate I went to fill up my cup with unsweetened tea (which was great) and went to the restroom to wash my hands. Upon returning up front I stood in front of the rail waiting for almost 3 minutes until an employee asked if I was with Uber or online pickup. At this moment in time I almost wanted to ask for a refund and leave. She briefly coached the depressed looking young girl about the situation, however I was still a bit shocked by the lack of attention from the staff. The brisket and sausage were great, loved the barbecue sauces, green beans were forgettable but the potato salad slapped. The music in the background should be turned up quite a bit because all I could hear were everyone’s conversations. Not an entirely terrible experience but Meyers is one of those places you’re better off taking your food home or buying their delicious sausages from retail stores and grilling em in the backyard. If you’re looking for a more friendly dining experience Southside is the way to go. Meyers should definitely invest in ways to improve the happiness of their employees.
Food just ok but reasonable prices. Stop by on my way to Blue Texas. Ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, garlic sausage, and pork rib. Bbq sauce was delicious and sweet. The meats were a little too dry for me. Sides were ok nothing amazing.
I didn’t enjoy the food the first time round and thought I’d give it a second chance, wasn’t worth it. Never had turkey that dry before, the potatoes have the weirdest taste, and the green beans meh. You can make better Mac n cheese at home out of the box. Brisket held too long in the steamer so all the fat is rendered out. But don’t worry, they’ll give you 2 slices of plain untoasted white bread to help get it all down. If you like seasonin, this ain’t the place for yall.
Country town vibe when you walk in. Brisket was underwhelming and dry. Sausage was good but could have had more of a punch of flavor. The cowabunga sandwich was $10 but there was only two small slices of brisket and a sausage. I couldn’t finish the sandwich bread because the meat-to-bread ratio wasn’t right. What helped the sandwiches we had was the bbq sauces, they were all great but the mustard sauce was my personal favorite. The blackberry cobbler crust could have been sweeter to balance the tartness of the blackberries. Restaurant and bathrooms are clean.
Walked in during dinner time and the restaurant had 1 person taking your order and also plating some of the food, theirfore slowing down the whole ordering process. Tried both soda machines and all soda fountain drinks were lacking syrup so bad the soda fountain drinks did not come close to tasting correct. Some of the food was just ok while some was less than ok. Even tho the prices were very good, our group of 10 most likely will find another restaurant to eat at the next time we are in town!
Stopped in here on my way up North knowing I wouldn’t make it to my fav bbq place before closing so I gave this a shot. They weren’t too busy Sunday afternoon, they were super nice and the place was clean. I ordered the 3 meat plate with the brisket upgrade. The brisket was fine and the bbq sauce was pretty good although the normal kind had run out. Maybe they weren’t refilling because it was later in the day and they were closing??? I had pulled pork and chopped beef as my other two choices and honestly couldn’t tell the difference between the two. They both appeared more like ground up in a blender rather than pulled or chopped. The Mac and cheese was pretty watery for my tastes so I was too impressed on that either. All said and done it wasn’t bad in any way, it just wasn’t what I’d want for bbq on any regular basis. Decent for meal if your choices are limited.
The line on friday after Thanksgiving was out the door. Didn't eat as I was on the home and still had 2 hours to go. The food must be great. Used the restroom while I was there and they were clean.
We ordered to go plates and also some items from their sausage selections. The food was just okay. 2 meat plates and a pound of sausage was $66. A little high I think for what we received. Probably won't go back. Can get their sausage products at the grocery store nearby.

I always try to frequent smaller, family-owned businesses so I go to Meyer's over Southside Market when I want BBQ, but lately the service has gone down. I went right before lunch, and there were 2 cars ahead of me. There is no way it should take 36 minutes in a drive thru line at a BBQ place. Most of the items are already ready so I have no idea what could possibly taken this long, but this was my experience the last few times. Not to mention, I ordered the special and a peach cobbler and a chili, only to get home and there is no chili and the cobbler I was given was something with berries, which immediately got trashed. I can't justify going here anymore unfortunately. Not only do people want what they pay for, but no one has over 30 minutes to just wait to receive food during a lunch break, especially when it's BBQ and not made to order food.
I HARDLY EVER leave reviews but i went around 2 weeks ago. It was a party of 6 and we ordered 3 plates in total. I forgot exactly what it was we ordered but every single plate came out wrong, wrong sides, wrong meat. When we told the person at the front that our orders were wrong she just said “oops” and didnt care to try to correct it. The brisket on the plates were so dry it stuck to the roof of my mouth. Though the ribs were good, even if it wasnt what we ordered. Service just wasnt good.
Not sure if it was cuz I came in the evening, or because it was a weekday, but the meat was not fresh. Possibly even reheated. I paid about $20 for a 2 meat plate and a small dessert. They must have given me about 3 pounds of food! I only wish it tasted better. The brisket was good, but cold since they put cold onions and several cold Pickle spears right on top of it for some reason. And the chicken had tough skin which gave away that it was not freshly cooked. The potato salad was mediocre. Tasted like the kind you buy at a grocery store, not home made like you'd get going to a friend's BBQ which is what I was hoping for. Coleslaw was pretty good, nice and crunchy. Bbq sauce was way too sweet at the most disappointing of all was the blackberry cobbler. It had ALOT of really big, hard seeds that made it impossible to enjoy. Overall a disappointing experience
Perhaps I ordered the wrong BBQ meal. Others around me did not have the sliced beef large sandwich. If this was large they need a new scale. The meat was so tender it was more mush than beef. I can't recall such "tender" sliced beef. Thankfully there was BBQ sauce so there was flavor. Perhaps there is something special about the bread? If there is, I missed it cause I would declare it old and stale. The peach cobbler should be a go to dish if you desire a significant sugar high with a slice of peach or two. Since I had invested $15.00 in the meal I ate it. Just shows the power of the US dollar!
First time to eat there, not impressed. Did not live up to our expectations, with it being Meyers Elgin Sausage, and them being around for 80 yrs we were disappointed, we ordered the chopped beef, and original sausage wrap, mac n cheese, and cole slaw. The buns were hard on the edges and the meat was not fresh. The sausage was ok but the flour tortilla was stiff like it had been sitting out for a few hours. We won't be going back.
Where can I start used drive through. Bought half chicken and 1 pound smoke sausage. Sign displayef at the window states no food return because Covid 19. Lady hands my food to me with BQ Sauce spilled inside bag. I could not understand her with Hispanic accent talking through mask softly. Food well the chicken tasted like it was rotten yes that old tasting. Only the sausage was good. Terrible experience and will not go back.
The meal was great and if all you come for is bbq then you'll love Meyer's. Waited in line for twenty minutes after my meal for a blackberry cobbler just to get to the front and find out that they were out of both blackberry and peach cobbler at 6pm. I ordered the banana pudding instead to convince myself I didn't waste my time in line but it looks and tastes like it was made three days ago.
Passing through Elgin for work and decided to stop by. I've got the chopped beef bowl with Cream corn ,and Mac & cheese ,that was recommended by the cashier. I also got the 2meat plate. Ribs and garlic pork sausage. Gotta say... Some of the worst sausage EVER.!! Not to mention Mac&cheese taste like what they would serve you in County jail. Ribs were barely passible ...Had enough after a few bits ... $$$$ went straight in the trash..
Stopped in on our way through. Asked for moist brisket, but not what we got. Brisket has weird consistency like it's partially smoked and partially done in oven? Can't put my finger on it. Beef sausage was average. Green beans where meh, hardly any flavor. Potato Salad is mustard forward if that's your preference. Good atmosphere. Overall disappointed.
I was on my way to Houston Monday stopped and bought some sausage for the road and it was really good. On the way back 12/19 and I wanted to try the brisket. This brisket was very dry, when they were cutting I could tell something didn't look right. I should have got a refund because $16 for a half pound of dry brisket is not worth it. Do they not try their food before serving it or just have a girl back there cutting it who has no clue what the texture of brisket should look like. You have to do better with this because I would never buy this again ever. I make better brisket at home.
The last two times I've come the brisket has been super dry! I wanted a pit plate but they were out of ribs so got a 3 meat. I wasn't impressed chicken was dry so was brisket, sausage was good. I've always liked meyers over southside but I may be changing.
Worst bbq ever. Even the potato salad was gross. How do you mess up potato salad? Brisket way over priced for the dry shoe leather they give you.
A hard no, food has no flavor. Tastes like it's someone's first time smoking food incorrectly, it doesn't taste like a company who's been in service for years. \nVery disappointing, brisket had no …
I've never left a review before but felt the need for this place. I came here for lunch on Wednesday 8/28. service was terrible. Lady behind the counter was rude and zero help for my first time her…
Visiting from Houston decided to stop after seeing billboard. Made it to hotel in Austin, order was incorrect and was missing bbq sauce. Called to let them know what happened and to see how this can be corrected. I have receipt and photos of my food. I was told someone would call me back after the camera has been reviewed. I am back in Houston and have yet to receive a phone call. Bad customer service.
I can’t rate a 0 but wish I could. Walked in at 7:15pm- small line, not bad. Waited forever and only two people working couldn’t get it together. Went to bathroom to wash my hands- no soap. Asked them to fix it and she basically told me I wasn’t doing it right and they were full. I’m not stupid, lady! I absolutely tried with other folks in there- NO SOAP! not to mention every hand sanitizer hanging on the wall was empty. When I finally go to order, No Turkey- then I ask for Fajita chicken sandwich- no fajita. A restaurant of this size is expected to have it together a little more than that. We walked out and left without eating so I cannot rate the food, completely frustrated and starving. Do Better no matter what time it is!! Your reviews clearly show a history of repeated problems from several customers.
Don’t waste your time eating here, the line was long for no reason. Took very long to get attended, when I opened the food no silverware or napkins were put in the bag and I had to eat with my hands. The Mac and cheese is soupy and green beans taste like they are from the can. 20$ is a waste for a plate. They ran out of mash too.
I ordered on the website ready to eat tamales. When I picked them up they were refrigerator cold. I said, oh no they are cold. The young lady replied. You didn't say hot. I said, it says ready to eat...can I get them hot please? She sighed and walked away with them. A few minutes later an older gentlemen came to the window, and said here's your receipt, I took it and thanked him, and he said you know there's an option for hot and a comment section. I informed him that on the website there was not and that ready to eat.means hot. Very poor customer service. All of those commentscould have been kept to themselves. The oder was schedule for a 20 minute wait time, it doesn't take 20 minutes to grab cold ones from the cooler!
Generally visit this store 2-3 times a month, today's visit was different to say the least. The woman taking my order was not the friendliest person. My order was a little smaller than usual. I ordered about 8 pounds of sausage and brisket. The beef sausage looked a little lighter than normal and the brisket even though I asked them to trim the fat was full of fat. More than half the brisket was fatty, not marbling. I would have taken pictures of brisket, but my son got to it before I did. The thing that really upset me was that the woman charged me for the loaf of bread. 8 POUNDS of meat and I was charged for bread. Generally when I order sausage the beef sausage is darker than the pork, but in the picture I shared the pork sausage is darker. The one lonely link at the top is pork just FYI. Might have to start driving to Kreuz BBQ in Lockhart. They are actually a little closer to me, but I have liked Meyer's better. Might be time for a change.
Worst barbecue I’ve had in a while. Dry meat. Flavorless. Nasty mac n’ cheese. Unseasoned green beans. Everything has just gone done. There’s no pride in quality anymore.
This is a BBQ restaurant fit for aging parents only. My food lacked seasoning, which is often my main critique of restaurants catering to older crowds. But Meyer's barbecue suffered even more from being so poorly cooked. The chicken quarter was dry and further disappointed by uninspired sauce options. The brisket too was dry and chewy. Worst of all, the pork ribs were inedibly rubbery. So much so I thought I dropped my rib and mistakenly grabbed me shoe. The ambience of Meyer's leads me to believe they were once smoking delicious meats, but this Wednesday, they are not.
Best bet is to drive past and go to Southside. I mentioned when we pulled in that the parking lot was empty. Should have taken that as a sign. They gave me rancid sausage and pork steak that tasted old. Potato salad so sweet it was barely edible. The pork rib on somebody else’s plate was okay. I spent $26 to eat mostly crackers. And a few bites of Mac off somebody else’s plate.
Not sure what went wrong here, considering the reviews I had high hopes. Ordered through Uber Eats and the brisket was cold and dry, pork ribs were room temp and dry, mashed potatoes were room temp, gravy was cold and the bread slices were stale. Not to mention 20 minutes after consuming most of it (I tossed half in the trash) I had to sprint to the bathroom. Definitely the first and last time I’ll be eating here.
We were sent here at a recommendation that it was the best in Elgin. It was the worst bbq Ive ever had. The brisket had zero smoke ring and looked like it had been boiled, tasted the same. The ribs were not much better. The best part of the meal were the sides. Definitely do not recommend this place to TX BBQ lovers.
I came here on Sep. 7 2025 and do not plan on coming back. My food was so bland , it tasted like jail food. None of the drink machines had ice , the sauce cups for the bbq weren’t stocked, the boats for the pickles and other small condiments weren’t stocked & the staff was not welcoming. I will continue to spend my money with South Side Market!
This place is bad. I placed an online order and the mobile experience was awful. That should have been my first hint. Went into the restaurant to pick up the food and the lady at the counter didn't want to give me bread, sauce, pickles and onions.... Even though the website says that it comes with the family meal that I order. The bbq sauce is bad. The sausage is tender and juicy but had no flavor. The brisket was not tender, was extremely greasy and had no flavor. The chili tasted like it was sweet bbq sauce with some meat left in it. Gross. Beans... No flavor Mac n cheese was wet, no flavor. The whole experience was extremely poor. I definitely will not be coming back, I feel like I was robbed for the $120 that I spent here.
You know my mother always said if I don't have anything. Nice to say then don't say it. Well I guess it's a good thing I don't listen to my mother.. So I stopped in to try some barbecue from the Elgin area, and let's just say I was greatly greatly disappointed. I was talked into buying the pit boss special which was pork sausage, pork ribs, beef sausage, half a chicken, brisket, and two sides. I figured why not just go for a little bit of everything kind of thing. The service there was incredible. They were so friendly and so nice and were so willing to work with you... The food however, was less than desirable. Unfortunately my chicken was very dry, the beef sausage really had no taste other than it tasted like ground up brisket. If I had some thread I could have made flip flops out of the brisket because they were so dry. The macaroni and cheese was basically cheese soup with some elbow macaroni tossed in. However, the pork sausage and the pickles were amazing. Unfortunately I will not be back. Not even for a second try.
