The Diner is one our favorite spots, It's close to our house and the service is very good and the food is good with large portions, and our Grandkids love it too 😀 😊

Today I went to have breakfast and was served by the young Veronica, her service and attention was the best, very kind and attentive, I ordered a turkey club sandwich and it met my expectations as always, very rich and fresh flavor, the restaurant bathrooms very clean, the restaurant has ample parking and the menu is very varied for all tastes, I recommend it, it has a very nice atmosphere and the souvenirs are my son's favorites who has a collection of all the bears they always bring out. It is a place that I would always recommend.

If im in the area and i just don't know what I want, I always come here (if they're open)..huge menu I'll always find something decent. In the picture I've attached in I believe a special, brisket Benedict. I LOVE the hash browns, and they are consistent with making decent hollandaise, which I appreciate too

Today was the first time that I went here. I got the fish n' chips with a side of coleslaw and it was okay. I also tried some of someone's pasta and it tasted pretty good. I'll probably get that the next time I go.

I went with a group of cyclists. We had too many bikes to fit out front on the bike rack they provide. So 2 associates brought our bikes into their back area. The seating was not provided there, but they had no problem assisting us. It was a very busy Saturday so there was quite a wait. Non the less it was worth it. Delicious food for our whole group.

We were at Black Bear for a special Make a Wish event this week. The manager Ray and his entire staff treated us like royalty! From the moment we stepped into the diner, Ray had our table set up, balloons on display, and servers ready to get us whatever we needed. The Make a Wish kiddo was showered with presents and even got a visit from Black Bear himself! Our food was brought out promptly (as we had a tight schedule to keep to). Everyone enjoyed their delicious meals and all of the special attention we received. Thank you to Ray and the entire Black Bear team for helping make the day so incredibly special for us. This team's generosity, kindness, and superb customer service really made this a once in a lifetime experience for the wish kid. I will definitely be back!

Me and my lady had a wonderful experience here. Diana our server gave me a recommendation for the bread pudding, a new one that they had and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely coming back here. Hopefully she's our server again. She was really good

This diner is convenient because it is right off the freeway. I had a hamburger with everything on it. My girlfriend had the pot roast, and the meat was very tender very tasty. The restaurant was clean, the restrooms were clean, and the service was very friendly and professional. If you love pancakes, this is the place to go if you like your pancakes large!

We had the volcano breakfast plate and the country steak with biscuits and gravy. Why didn't they warn us the biscuits could feed 5 people?! Seriously though, those plates were HUGE! Definitely a man's meal for surely and plenty to take home. Waitresses were all very friendly even after I came in feeling down I left smiling, full and happy because of our waitress. Our trip to Oakland California was awesome. We spent two weeks there, exploring the city, traveling the transportation systems, and going to different areas throughout the cities. We were going to Emeryville to play indoor putt putt golf, only to discover that they were closed for a private gathering. So in our catching the bus to go back to our hotel, we decided to get something to eat from Black Bear Diner. My husband ordered breakfast at 1:00 in the afternoon; however, I chose to order lunch. I have to tell you the food was excellent!!!! I ordered the tuna melt and homemade chicken noodle soup. OMG, the soup was so delicious, perfectly seasoned; it gave me that warm, cozy, seating by the fireplace, wrapped in a comfy blanket feeling. And the tuna melt, that's the first time I have ever eaten tuna that way; it was out of this world. PLEASE, Please, please, I can't express it enough; if you are ever in Oakland California, go to Emeryville and eat at Black Bear Diner; you are going to LOVE IT.

Was staying at the Courtyard nearby. It was about a 5 minutes walk and closer than Denny’s. I had the Denver Omelet with a side of country gravy. It was delicious. The way staff was very nice.

Exceptional…I’m a fan of this place, had the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans and it was like homemade; to finish it off I had the banana cream pie…nicely done; only down side was the iced tea wasn’t really to my liking but drinkable.

Enjoyed my breakfast of the scram bowl. It was very large so I will be taking the portion pictured home. Tasty and my husbands bacon looked like it was cooked to perfection. I may have to taste some of his lol. I’ve been to one in Colorado Springs and this did not disappoint.

Enjoyed an early breakfast here. Excellent biscuits and gravy. My older son tried the volcano - very good! The younger enjoyed Mac and cheese with bacon. Very nice vibe. Great service. They listen. It is conveniently located by a freeway exit, so it was easy to meet up with a friend for dinner, on my way back home from work. That simple pleasure brought me great joy. It is not often, that I get to see my friend these days, since having babies and all...but, it was great to see that our friendship could just pick up where it left off. Now, I can fit more girl time into my schedule while I "figure out my boy problems". Lol. Am I right?

I recently dined at Black Bear Diner located at 5750 Christie Ave, Emeryville, CA 94608, and had a great experience. This is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, offering a large menu with plenty of options. One of the best things about this place is that you can customize your meal—just tell them how you want it, and they’ll make it happen. The food here is always good. I personally love the sausage gravy and biscuits—one of the best I’ve had. Their steak and eggs are also really tasty, and the veggie omelette is a great choice if you want something hearty but fresh. My wife ordered the French toast, and I got to try it—delicious! Everything we’ve had here has been solid, and our kids enjoy eating here too. The service is excellent—the waitresses are friendly, helpful, and very attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, making it a great place to just sit, talk, and enjoy a meal. It’s never too busy to get your food at a decent time, and the prices are very reasonable. There’s plenty of parking, and the diner is conveniently located near shopping stores, which makes it a great stop while running errands. If you’re in the Emeryville area and looking for a good place to eat, I definitely recommend checking out Black Bear Diner.

Excellent choice ny strip. Asked for medium, and they cooked it perfectly medium. The blue cheese crumble wasnt over powering. Very delicious steak. Their cornbread muffin is sweet and fluffy. Another highlight was their greenbeans in bacon... that was delicious. The broth or sauce it's cooked in had such depth of flavor without it being overtly salty. Great and fast service. Would recommend.

This location was great. The staff was super friendly and patient. It was clean and welcoming, the food was tasty. It was my spouse birthday and the location provided him a personal size cake and sang happy birthday to him very thoughtful 😊. I loved the fact that they don't make you sign up for a rewards program for them to acknowledge your special day as many other restaurants do now.

I was staying next door at four Points by Sheraton and Black Bear Diner is located in the same parking lot so it convenient to eat there. It’s clean and rustic. They have a good sized menu. It was raining so I ordered the bowl of chili and cornbread, they were good. It’s also near the freeway and shopping.

Good taste is guaranteed in Black Bear.. We had to wait a little before getting a table but it wasn’t a long waiting. My tuna salad was splendid, fresh and good sized. My children love to see all the bear art around. Staff is nice, tables and restrooms are clean. Also a plus is that it is located near to a charging station, so you can leave your car charging while you eat.

Great experience at the Black Bear Diner in Emeryville. If you’ve never been to a Black Bear Diner it’s a must try. As mentioned in the name, the restaurant theme is really black bears. It’s a rustic themed wildness restaurant with amazing wooden carved black bears placed all over the inside and outside of the restaurant. Though Black Bear serves everything, I would highly recommend their breakfast. The omelette are really amazing and the butter biscuits are incredible. The biscuits are large, baked fresh every morning, and buttery soft. I highly recommend that you eat at a Black Bear Diner whenever you can.

We came here with family and everybody were satisfied. We all ordered a full breakfast and some drinks. It was every satisfying, coupled with a great and friendly service.

It was ok, nothing to write home about, I guess if you don't feel like cooking breakfast this would be the perfect place to do it for you. However I could do this at home and probably do a better job I didn't see the need to spend the money.

Clean, good food, and good service. Unfortunately, shrinkflation has struck and the last couple of times I found that my favorite meals are about 1/4-1/3 less food than before. The cheeseburger basket used to be a good value, but it's now the size of a kid's hamburger.

Meal was good. Cocony custard pie was tasty. Clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Main complaint was service time. The only waitress for about 10 tables. I would return.

Friendly atmosphere. Within easy walking distance of several hotels. Specializes in American comfort food, and lots of it. Regular menu servings quite large, but they do offer smaller portion options of their most popular selections. Their weekly deal menu offers a very reasonable prime rib, which mu husband said was delicious. And huckleberry milkshakes!!! Super yum! The Alameda location come with its own greeter. Yes, that IS a wild turkey. In the parking lot.

Very enjoyable if your expectations of a place like this are properly calibrated. Ever since I left planet Earth to take a journey to another galaxy, I've craved the chicken fried steak (there are basically no Earth-American style diners outside of the Milky Way). A hunk of ground beef, fried, covered in gravy with a biscuit, pancakes, hashbrowns and eggs. Giant portion for $15. Do it.

Really nice breakfast. Had the chorizo burrito. It was simple and good. Staff were great too. Would really like to try their French toast or chicken fried steak.

A typical Black Bear Diner! The area around the diner is nice and gives you plenty of options to shop around at and walk off your lunch or dinner! The food is standard diner fare - tasty but nothing absolutely mouthwatering. The service was fantastic, however - the waiters and waitresses were attentive to my needs and were exceptionally friendly.

This was my first time to this chain restaurant, I liked it. The interior design theme is wood, log cabins, wilderness, forests, and lots of black bears in the decor. They offer and all day breakfast. I had coffee, the two egg, chicken sausage and waffle combo and fresh-squeezed orange juice. It was fresh and good sized portions.

It was pretty comfortable we sat at a booth, the lights were a little too bright for me though. We both got the all-you-can-eat fish and chip dinner on Fridays the fish was okay I've had much better, the Fry's got soggy pretty quickly the coleslaw was good, the hush puppies had an onion flavor but were dry,. I don't think that we're going to get the fish again I like the breakfast much better, the biscuits are really good and big

It was a good meal, however I will say service was slow. To the one server that was working. It was not her fault 5 groups walked in one after the other as well as she already had 2 tables. Not sure if someone called in sick or they typically have less service staff on hand. Be aware and check when you walk into this location so you can understand the wait time

Update to my previous review. Came back here for Mothers Day despite my reluctance to return here after our previous visit (check previous posts). Here's the current tea- service and food quality has definitely IMPROVED since my last two visits. I'm bummed because I wrote down the name of our drink host and server but can't find it. Let's just say they were light years better than our last server (see previous post) who still works here but I also took notice that the particular server we had issue with before was giving great customer service follow up to everyone around us. I believe staffing is still an issue- we walked in and it was not crowded (we went the week before Mothers Day) on a Sunday. We were seated right away- it was giving me a repeat of our last visit...a bit of a wait for service as I noticed our previous server being the ONLY server for the entire restaurant. About 10-15 minutes in, a new face came and took/served us our drink orders and was very pleasant. Receiving food was still a wait until I noticed our drink server talk to staff and a new face emerged and took care of us. We ordered specialty burgers from a limited menu and we were pleasantly surprised. The food came out in less than 30 minutes hot and fresh and seasoned well. A true step above from previous experiences.

I ordered the California omelet... the avocado was not ripe and was bitter. There was barely any cheese in it. I was super disappointed. It WAS my go-to neighborhood restaurant, now I'm not sure.

I have been to several Black Bear Diner. This one is more expensive. Bacon was undercooked! The server never came back. Had to ask someone else to refill my coffee. The food was so so mine was simple eggs hash browns and toast. Hash browns were cold. 10/11/25 edited I decided to go back to Black Bear. Close to where my son lives.. Unfortunately it was still poor service. It took 20 minutes for the sever to come over and acknowledge us. It took another 20 minutes to get our beverages. Had Tri tip sandwich. More bread than the Tri Tip..The Tri Tip was very dry. Regular breakfast was ok. Bacon was very greasy not cook. Never got my water I ask for. Had to ask the 2 different people for coffee. The booth we sat in. Was terrible no padding once you sat in the booth . You sunk into it. Which makes harder for someone who have knee or back problems. The restaurant had dirty floors no cream for the coffee. I'm not expecting a 5 star restaurant.. I have eaten at the other Black Bear in Pleasanton. Never had bad service or cold food..Prices in Pleasanton are way lower than Emeryville. I always usually give a review. It helps when you are going out with someone out town. Or just family, I've been in the fast food, coffee shop to fine dining. As well as catering. There are food days and bad. I been to Black Bear several times. Service has always been the same. So I just stick with my usual place in Pleasanton. You can't go wrong and I don't expect to get great service just because I've been in food industry for over 35 year plus. Now I know I will not be coming back to this Black Bear . Always try to give them a second chance. It wasn't worth it.

DO NOT EAT THE ALL YOU CAN EAT FISH PLATTER. It's over cooked and much too dark to even be edible. They cook it too long in old cooking oil. This overcooked garbage sat in my stomach 24 hours before I hacked it up. This means my meds didn't get absorbed, which I'm really pissed about more so than actually having to vomit. I'm 54 years old, I don't vomit because I eat real food. The restaurant and the staff are fine, just for DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT eat the fish. I lost out in $56. I kept my receipt and credit card receipt. I will be disputing the charge

Waffle has a slightly too heavy on the vanilla taste and only one flavor syrup is available. Biscuit is on the dense side. Will not recommend if you like some lighter. Veg omelette is cheesy and nicely cooked (cooked but not browned). Highly recommend!

Seems to be a good place for kids with the bear themed decor. The food is American comfort food, and the serving portions can be quite large. I had a large burger which was OK and a beef stew that was ok-ish. There is also a sizable breakfast menu which I believe is available all day.

I ordered a big meal for myself because it was the day after Thanksgiving and I hadn't eaten anything other than cottage cheese and berries on Thanksgiving. But they put too much butter on my English muffin and it was my fault for asking Sunny side up because they were so jiggly. I felt like a coyote eating raw eggs. I didn't end up feeding them and from my chicken and waffles I actually ended up giving my chicken tenders to a homeless man in the parking lot.

We arrived on a very busy Saturday afternoon which was a long weekend. There was a large group of Amish people who had just arrived right before us, like a group of 40 of them; on top of other customers, perhaps there were 80 to 90 customers inside altogether. We had to wait for 19 minutes to get a table. The carpet was very sticky when we walked along the aisles before arriving at our table. It took another 11 minutes before we could order our drinks, our drinks arrived in 3 minutes after we ordered them; but, we had to wait for another 15 minutes before we could order our food. And our food started to arrive at our table after another 35 minutes. We arrived at 3:46 pm, our food started to come to our table at 5:06 pm. And we were way past being starving already.

It's Friday night. I ordered the "all you can eat" fried pollock fish. Then I ordered additional fish. 20 minutes later it final came out. They only gave me one. If I asked for another, will I have to wait for another 20 minutes?

Hi, I ate at your restaurant on [date] and got very sick shortly after. The food wasn’t even hot upon arrival. I believe I got food poisoning from something I ate there. I wanted to make you aware of the issue. I wasn’t able to finish the food and had symptoms shortly after. I’d like to request a refund or some kind of resolution.

$17 for a pot roast meal that includes about 2 ounces of pot roast... black bear, hibernating on portion sizes.

I only went there because I was sent an email for a birthday breakfast. You have to pay extra for a non pork meat option though a meat option is part of the plate and the plate is over $15😒. I do like their pancakes over most other diner chains, the sweet cream makes a difference. They charge nearly $4 for a blah cup of coffee that WASN'T refilled. I waited a full 10 minutes before going to the cash register to ask for a to go container, as no server came to check on us AT ALL. Doubt I'll go back for ANYTHING other than pancakes. And definitely NOT to this location. Disappointed is an understatement.

Service was good but we didn't care for the food. Their portions are pretty big though. We found a piece of raw diced onion inside the ranch. My pot roast had a piece of bacon. The food seemed very sloppy and just thrown together. Their banana cream pie not great but it does have chucks of fresh banana. The pudding taste like box pudding. The bottom is very crumbly not my type of pie. Our stomachs ended up being upset after our visit. We like the Vallejo location the best.

Decent food but a bit pricey! I would recommend Emery Bay Cafe over going here, but it’s only open in the morning.

I brought a piece of chocolate cake that was 7 layers of delicious goodness a couple of years ago. Yesterday was my birthday and I wanted chocolate cake and ice cream, but the 4 layer chocolate cake was dry and not at all delicious! I was disappointed I don't know who or why anyone would want to eat that dry piece of cake! I hope they get a better person to bake.

My family and I were visiting California from Canada, and were not familiar with Black Bear Diner prior. We saw quite a few Black Bear Diners on our road trip down, and decided to finally give it a try one evening. However, we were quite disappointed: they were sold out of their rib-eye special, and we got extremely slow service (we waited at least 30 minutes for our food). We ordered a steak, an omelet, a meatloaf, and a pecan-crusted trout - all tasted mediocre except for the trout. Based on our experience, we won't recommend this restaurant to our friends, or at least not this location. If you are in Emeryville area, I would recommend checking out the Public Market instead - lots of delicious and unique options there!

BEWARE! They break into your cars in this location!!!! We visited and stopped super early, mins before they opened. The waiter was extremely chatty and left for a while and after our food got here he never came back around, we go out and we find all of our things were STOLEN! We walked around and waved down a cop patrol in hopes we would be able to find our stuff. Apparently the restaurant claims they have cameras but supposedly didn't work so we made the police report and they claimed the store's security cameras were down and we're currently out of service when the incident happened. We were visiting from another city and it was so sad to stop by for breakfast right before we got to our destination and this happened. 😓😢😞 We had seen a black Bear diner up by Visalia and had always wanted to pass to one of these diners ... Horrible first experience 😞 never really recouperated from that experience til today 😞😢. If you are visiting do not stop near this location not across the street in the surrounding shopping centers! If possible do not even pass by this city! While we were searching we came across a cleaning staff and he told us this is pretty common daily and more than once a day! That he was usuay the one that was sent to pick up broken glass and he said sometimes if they didn't find wtvr the people stealing were looking for, they just toss it in the big garbage disposals in the back of the mall so he took us there to see if we found anything but of course we didn't 😞 at least our car rental company came to the rescue y asking us to stop by the airport and giving us another rental. To confirm one more time this happens here often, the guy that took our rental apologized and also explained that happened very often and we were sadly not the first ones that had gone to switch out for another rental due to the same reason ... 😓 sooooo Disappointed! It was just sooo weird the way the attendant at the restaurant took us to a far away corner and kept us entertained but then just disappeared 🤷🏻‍♀️ just pls be careful and even if you lock your cars, keep an eye on them!!!

Went for dinner wife ordered soup and sandwich with the sandwich being tuna I ordered the meatloaf dinner I tried to order soup with the meal which the menu says is included but was informed it was an extra charge. After an extremely long wait we were getting ready to leave as our food had not been delivered, the waitress came up and asked us if we wanted anything else she didn’t remember she had not brought us anything yet after we informed her that we wanted our meals she went to the kitchen the meal was brought out reheated in an microwave, my wife’s tuna sandwich was an turkey sandwich not tuna and the meatloaf was dried and tough on the edges from being reheated. I have eaten at Black Bear Dinner many times and this is the worst service ever if this is the way Black Bear is going I will not be eating here again.

I have never had an order come out correctly here -ever-. Today I got the huevos rancheros and they forgot the sour cream; it said it came with avocado - i got two tiny slices (pictured) that were dried up when they came to the table; and I ordered hashbrowns but got country potatoes. By the time the sour cream was corrected, my food was luke warm. Other times I have been charged for avocado I never got, items missing and never brought. The food would be excellent if they could ever get an order correct. I don't recall my fiances food ever coming out correctly either. This was my last chance with BBD, and I was so annoyed at the consistent lack of quality service, I decided I will never be going back.

Went here yesterday and had a horrible experience. Servers had tension amongst each other and barely spoke English. One of the servers was complaining in the restroom about her co workers. When our order came it was incorrect and below room temperature. It took over 30 minutes to get a soda refill. They definitely need a few new cooks and competent servers who speak English. I will not be returning to this location. Need a refund for bad food and wasted time!

Food looks good, however, ordered medium for the steak and came well-done, hash browns soaked in oil and hard af, not crispy at all. 0 out of 10. Worst meal in a while.

This review is for corporate and anyone that’s has the power to do something, on 11/27/25 around noon my friend and I went to this restaurant, for me the food was really good and the service is amazing, but the manager on duty that day is something else, he was treating the employees like garbage, and talking to them with no respect, I saw that the dishwasher guy accidentally dropped some plates to the floor and this “manager” He threatened the dishwasher, telling him that if he did it again, he would be fired. If he treats the dishwasher like that, he'll do the same to the other employees. It would be good if the corporation did something about this. This person should be removed from his position. I'm a manager in some where else, and that's not how you treat team members.

I was shocked at how dead this place was and even more shocked at how small the sourdough burger was with only 4 onion rings!!! Which were burnt black and had to ask for them to be replaced.. ordered bottomless drinks which were never refilled… ps if anyone seen my waitress please report her as she is missing? lol I could have gotten a bigger burger at Burger King for $4 don’t let the pic fool you it’s no meat all bread..

This was in fact the worst pancake I've ever eaten. Tasted like they just added water to flour and cooked that. No flavor. The vegiterian options looked great I ordered the omlette it was decent. Had to add salt pepper & hot sauce for any kind of seasoning. Overall 3out of 10 experience because my server was very nice.
