Fun place for sushi and rolls! I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures. I was busy eating the delicious food
Best tempura in LA! We drive 30 min to get here. Great staff and people are have ok ng do much fun in this place. Great 80s rock music - Feels like I'm in the movie St Elmos Fire.
We were in town working, staying in Encino and during Covid we struggled to decide where to order from to eat at home ( air bnb ) we craved sushi and decided to try out this place. Let’s just say during our 8 day shoot we decided to get take out from here 4 times. Great fresh fish and the Spanish mackerel was amazing.
We had a Dynamite appetizer, a BLCR roll, a 420 roll, and the Chicken Teriyaki Dinner, that came with rice, salad, miso, and a side of garlic noodles. It was absolutely delicious, every bite was divine. We both left more than satisfied with our meal. My only warning is to either make sure you have patience or get there early, because they're very popular and get busy around 7pm.
amazing sushi and service. my go-to spot! I would come here everyday if I could. plus they open later compare to other restaurants in the area
Always fresh and very consistent. Have never been once disappointed in my multiple years of ordering. One of the lowkey best sushi spots in LA.
Found this place on a whim in Encino when looking for a place to eat sushi late (they are open until midnight.) The sushi was fresh and very good. I truly enjoyed the dishes we got and the price was good for what we ordered. I personally preferred this over Katsuya in Encino. It's a cute little spot which you would pass by, but you shouldn't :)
Went here not too long ago with my buddies from out of town the food was amazing and just everything was done right . Appreciate it .
I LOVE THIS PLACE. the service and the love that the workers put in really reflects on the food and the experience at the restaurant. Because of the fact that it is a family place the food is phenomenal. I really really love coming here almost every weekend. Enjoy :)))
Me and my husband really enjoy this restaurant. It was one of the first places he wanted to eat when he was cleared to do so after leaving the hospital. We go quite often.
I've been coming here with my family since i was a kid and one thing i can say is the staff has stayed welcoming and cheerful. And the food always has the extra touch of ingredients that makes them stand apart. Unlike other restaurants that give you the basic to save a couple pennies. And this makes a difference for me. If im paying money for food i want the whole thing. Also heads up. Get the tempura icecream its absolutely mind blowing.
Amazing staff and superior quality sushi. The owner, Rin, is one of the nicest men I’ve ever met. Definitely top 3 sushi places in the entire valley.
I love this place. Every single person who works here is so kind and the food is so good. If you’re the type who loves to go to nice restaurants, and you love great service, they have the the sweetest waitstaff... I swear... incredible tasting food, and if you appreciate reasonable prices for.... amazing sushi, try it. You will thank me. And them. God Bless 🙏🏻
Big rear parking, great food at affordable price. Friendly staff. Warm and family atmosphere. Love this place.
We stop here every week for our sushi fix. The waitresses are always friendly. Depending on what you order your wait times are different but rest assured food taste presentation and quality is always on pointe! Pendejo,el cabron, dragon, 204& 911 are my favorite. I'm going keep trying more each week. Menu is extensive!! Pairs well with Sapporo
Great menu selection, fresh fish, amazing service. Love that they're open late. There's parking in the back and some metered parking out front.
Best kept secret in Encino. I absolutely adore this place. It’s cozy, delicious, and the service is fantastic! Don’t miss the: White Ninja roll Oyster shooters Halibut and Red Snapper sushi
Service? Phenomenal. Atmosphere? Think the painting Nighthawks but in a Japanese setting. Sushi? Absolutely perfect. The spicy tuna roll was the best I've ever had. Its pretty mid range to expensive in price so it's easy to spend a lot because it's so good, but it's worth it. 5/5 great sushi. AND we went in at 8:00 on a Saturday and didn't have to wait.
The meal consisted of California Roll and Tuna sashimi with onion. Also, i got a Thai 🍵 tea that was delicious! The sushi and the rest of the menu are excellent. I would definitely recommend coming to Makoto Sushi.
Amazing sushi. The best in the area and definitely one of the best I have had in Los Angeles. Had a to-go order a couple days back and have to say that it was absolutely delicious. The fish is as fresh as it gets. My favorite was the red snapper sashimi. That has an explosion of taste. Avocado rolls are very good as well. Overall, strong 5/5 for taste and quality.
Fresh sashimi, high quality of materials. My kids love udon tempura soup. Surely will not disappointed.
I had best sushi-eating experience here in the Valley so far. Sushi itself is great, also service provided by Thai, which is very neat and considerate. Very cozy spot, making me thinking of the real sushi places in Japan, usually small and cozy, owned by family business. I recommend this place! Five stars, period.
Its delicious, our favorite place to go eat sushi. But my ultimate favorite is the Habani 😍 I just 💘 love love it. When you come here try it. Just plain delicious 😋 Update. This place is still delicious. Yumm
2nd visit. Kai was or sushi chef and he was wonderful ! Our dishes were delightful and exciting ! Service was impeccable.
Nice spot in the valley! Good tuna, Spanish mackerel, and octopus. Will go again.
I have been going here for 10+ years, and considering that I'm not even 30 years old yet, that should speak volumes about Makotos! From every special occasion I've had in my life, from anniversaries and birthdays, to promotions and date nights; if my husband and I want to celebrate, we always unanimously want to go see Rin, the head chef, at Makotos! We love this spot!! Thank you all for your hard work at making Makotos so great, and we appreciate how it's always done with a smile!! I will always share every life moment I have, there, at the sushi bar! 💞🥗🍣🍚🍜🍙🍘🍱🍤

Always love this place gives me NYC vibes all the time. Cozy and always great service. Food is always great.
Amazing. That’s all I have to say. Customer service, amazing. Food, amazing. Place, amazing. I’ve never actually liked sushi but I came here with family and was completely shocked and made me look at sushi differently. Would easily come again.
I have been coming to Makoto for a long time since iv lived in the area my entire life. I have always enjoyed my self! The fish is always good quality and the size of the pieces are perfect. Everything taste amazing and it is a long and welcoming environment! The service is always great and I highly recommend this place if you want some quality sushi.

My husband and I used to come here at least once a week. Everything is very tasty and most of the staff is super nice. We don’t go there as much lately since their albacore is too stringy and not as fresh as their other options. Still love going there tho just get their 4-20, spicy tuna hand rolls and the white ninja is amazing
Very decent sushi, high prices. We got the Russian, the unagi, the toro, the hanbai, a blcr and garlic noodles. The quality of the cuts were good, the choices of rolls was nice (they had some rolls I've never seen before). My biggest complaint was that we ordered noodles to help full is up but the amount that they give is rather small.
Came here for the first time. I ordered Salmon sushi (nigri) and the quality of the fish was okay. Nothing special. The price for the two pieces was almost $6 which I think it's a bit expensive for this place and location. I also ordered the Casanova cut roll which was seared salmon, tempura eggplant, rice, crab, cilantro, small piece of garlic on top and chilli sauce all over. I wish the menu would have mentioned how spicy it was but it didn't so I was a bit surprised. Why I still gave it four stars is because they have really good customer service. If they could improve the quality of the fish this place would be 5 stars.

Delicious sushi. Very friendly sushi chefs. Prepared with great care. Incredible value for the fish quality. Valley “old school” at its best!

Cute restaurant and good service but the food is underwhelming. Food looks beautiful but some flavors are overbalanced. And the spicy tuna was just boring.
They offer sushi pretty late. I did not like the baked salmon though. It was prepared differently than what I'm used to. It was alright.

I usually, don't write reviews unless something is extreme.(good or bad) but this was not the case. I read some reviews and 1 said best sushi on Ventura blvd. So we went for our 1st time, definitely not close to best sushi on the blvd. We had an assortment of items, so good overview. None bad. But just ok. They had a Salmon Poke special that would have been really good. But the carrots they put in were pickled, so it kinda ruined it. The other thing I found odd is they have cafeteria style trays at sushi bar seating and they bring you food and set it on them for you to eat off, which makes it feel cheap. Must be for fast clean up I guess. The last was I wanted some Sriracha, small amount for Poke, and I was charged for it when check came. Anyway. Not a bad place, just very mediocre in my opinion. Oh and roll selection needs some reworking as well not too interesting. Really didn't want to write this as its a small local biz, which i like to support, but it was definitely a let down and we were really in mood for sushi! Hope this helps someone when you're craving good sushi.

Food is decent but it was clear they weren't ready for the allowed increased capacity. Only saw 2 servers and 2 sushi chefs but they were seating every table. Today I ordered simple dishes for take out, salmon sushi, ikura and spicy tuna. When I called I was told 20-25 min. I came after 20min and was told another 15min. 10min sitting there waiting and they still haven't started my order as I overheard the waitress asking the chefs. Then waited 14min more. People kept coming in and weren't being seated. Tables weren't being cleared. No sign in sheet. A customer had to ask to sign his name and the waitress just pulled out a menu for him to sign on the back. All in all I placed my order at 6:56pm and didn't get it until 7:40. I still tipped over 20%... oh and they didn't even pack me any soy sauce on top of all Don't seat customers at full capacity when you don't have the staff to cover them all. There's a reason restaurants close off sections when they don't have the staff for it. The wait staff gets overworked and customers get subpar service.
The reviews on this place can’t be right. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and felt really let down. It was really expensive when you consider the atmosphere. Portions were pretty small for the prices. Service was fast although they did forget part of our order. It would behoove them to give the place a good cleaning…
Use to go every week, was in town and wanted to try it again VERY disappointing! Small sushi pieces, dry rice, the dynamite was so fishy and loaded with huge pieces of onion. Very expensive. Will never go back
We love coming here, but last night we ordered a sushi roll that was supposed to have King Crab, and it was $23+ for that roll and there was not really any crab in it. So disappointed at the results :(
I was there last week and I had a terrible experience with the server. One of their female waitress looks like in her 40s with dark skin was extremely rude. When she puts down a plate of spicy tuna I made a joke asking her "why is it so small?" Her respond was "the owner is stingy" My family and I was surprise what her answer. We also noticed the look of her face that she doesn't seem to be happy and when she serveus again. My brother asked her is she all right? And she told him that she's not happy working here because the owner doesn't treat her fairly and told us that she wouldn't eat here after seeing how things are. After her two negative answers we decided to just not talk to her anymore. I honestly feel like this waitress needs to be fired because she is very rude and unprofessional and most importantly she isn't showing the appreciation of having a job especially her English isn't good at all.
Honestly this is about the same quality you would get at Ralph’s. If that is fine with you then please enjoy. If you don’t have a gutter palate I wound most definitely skip this place.
Very nice people, but the sushi was not good. I had better sushi from the supermarket. The tuna is full of ligaments, the scallops are canned, and the shrimp tempura roll was a piece of tempura shrimp wrapped in rice and seaweed. This place needs to do better or close shop. Someone will get sick.
This was one of the worst sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. The fish was old, bland and flavorless. This is grocery store sushi at best. The service was absolutely terrible when they forgot two of our orders. If you like sushi, DO NOT come here. It’s not good.

Food is okay, mediocre. Staff is insanely slow. Took 30 min for each simple roll I ordered
Would not recommend They charge you 2 times without telling you $100 and went home hungry Definitely dont recommend They need to issue a refund
no Japanese people work here the place was mostly empty when I went in on saturday night, with 2 hours till closing time . I ordered the 91Roll, but after almost 2o minutes went by , I realized it’s taking way too long with only a few customers in the restaurant, so I cancelled my order and left. The people working here don’t follow any Japanese customs, such as saying ‘irashaimase’ , which is so basic and customary at Japaneae places , but the people working here don’t follow any of such customs. I think this is a Chinese-Thai owned and operated place , based off the Thai-style decorations behind the bar.
