Opinions de Pita King Escondido
The place smelled delicious when we came in (good sign!). The gentleman that took our order was the nicest. Excellent customer service, we saw as they helped several people for takeout, always a big smile. Now, the food: great flavors, big portions, everything was delicious. My boyfriend got the gyro sandwich and I got the gyro plate. We realized we probably could've order one for the two of us. But, we ate as much as we could and took the rest home, win win. Will definitely be back and bring the whole family.
Really really good food - huge portions
Food and service was 5 stars, portions were huge
Don’t be fooled by the low key location. This place is a gem! 💎 generous portions. gyro sandwich can almost feed 2 people.
Food and customer service was beyond great. Stumbled upon this restaurant on my drive north. Making this a reoccurring stop every time I’m in the area. The family meal was delicious and a great value.
One of the best gyro I’ve had and talk about large portions and well priced highly recommended the place does look like a hole in the wall kind of hidden but trust me it’s great
Delicious food from a long time Escondido favorite. Awesome service and one gyro sandwich will fill you up. When they included a fork with my sandwich I was curious what I was going to need that for... oh I found out. I had to eat my way to the sandwich. The journey was long and my belly was tested, but each bite was bliss. I was finally able to pick up my gyro after some serious fork work. I would highly recommend others to take the journey themselves followed by a satisfying mid day nap. After you wake up, you should have room for the delicious Baklava you ordered foolishly for dessert.
Delicious! The veggie platter was enormous and truly delicious. Several of my family had the grilled chicken kabobs, and another the falafel. . With salad, it was a feast and the BEST MEDITERRANEAN food around. I drive 30 minutes to this restaurant. YUMMY!!!
Best keep good food places! Escondido’s foodie hidden gem off the 15. The portions and prices are great!! Wonderful clean service. The flavors are distinct in every dish. If you really like Gyro meat this is your spot! Real deal. I recommend the Gyro sandwich for your first visit. Mouth watering. Always worth the wait. Order ahead of time.
The restaurant is clean. Staff is always friendly. The French fries are sublime. As good as del taco. The food is fresh. Reasonable pricing for the excellent choice of tasty delicacies. The best restaurant French fries. Staff is friendly. The friendly staff is a toss up with the French fries comparably, with the friendliness for the win.
From out of town driving my here on my way to San Diego with my husband. We were looking for something yummy to eat while we took a break from the road. And let me tell you this food is amazing. The gyro salad and the meat which is lamb is so tasty and tender. Souvlaki Plate with meat was also so delicious. The portions are very generous for very good prices. Ordered to go. The service was excellent and fast. Really loved this. Definitely going to tell my friends about it to stop by whenever they are on their way to San Diego Area. Will save to my favorites on google maps. 😍😋👌Best Greek Food I’ve Ever Had!!!
This is a a small family run restaurant and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the chicken plate with the big chunks of marinated chicken, grilled onions, green peppers and squash. It came with a Greek salad with their own dressing. There are tables in a small and comfortable dining area. Service was FAST. I love this place...and I eat a lot of Greek food.
Awesome spot for good food. The portions are big, the food is tasty, and the people are really friendly. What more could you want from a great local spot for quick, delicious food. This is a pic of the lamb gyro. It’s massive. Fork for reference. The meat was cooked and cut perfectly, veggies are fresh, everything was fantastic.
I stopped by this place because I remembered how good the lamb shank was years ago. I was not disappointed. I also got the roasted eggplant, which I can also recommend. They have big windows that look out on a gas station, so not the best view, but the service and food were great!
Great, friendly service. Got a combination plate with chicken and they packed it as full as possible + delicious side salad with sauces. Highly recommend this place!
The regular size plates can easily feed two people and you can't beat the price. The portions are ridiculously generous. For only a couple more bucks you get the large plate which is also very well worth the money. The gyro plate was beyond great. I'm definitely going back soon.
This place looks like a hole in the wall, which it literally is, but was absolutely delicious. We ordered two chicken plates, which came with freshly grilled chicken, sautéed together with onions, squash, and garlic. It was served over a giant bed of rice, and came with a side of pita bread. I also swapped the Taziki with hummus, and this was some true, homemade hummus. It was enough for me to eat lunch, that day and midnight snack the next. We will be back.
One of the hidden gems 💎 of this city. This little one stop shop is owned and operated by one of the hardest workers I've ever seen! There isn't a moment he isn't on the move from one side of the store to the next, expertly taking orders, making delicious meals to serving customers. I've never seen such a comprehensive customer service experience delivered by one person! Definitely the freshest Mediterranean cuisine I've had, cooked and seasoned to perfection
The staff is awesome. The portions are amazing. Their Gyros are the best. Some people do not like the garlic. I am a big fan. Get the gyro and add feta cheese.
Normally I don’t even write reviews but this place is so great that I’ll drive 15 minutes across town for it! They have great customer service! They remember me each time I go in even though I’ve only been in a few times so far! I’ve been getting the Falafel Plate and a Gyro and together it’s around $35 and it feeds both me and my boyfriend twice so it’s a very good value especially for how delicious it is! I got a sudden craving for Greek one day and this has been my go-to ever since.
Because of the great taste and big portions this place is a must go. I found it on my route home and was more than impressed. Not sure if you can dine in may only be takeout.
Loved this place! Clean, delicious, fair priced and you’ll leave with leftovers. Generous portions. Owner is a kind man. Will be back!
Man this place is my new favorite to eat. I smelled the meat grilling and had to see what it was. Ordered a beef/lamb gyro and was blown away. I ate here 3 times in the last 10 days. Go get some Pita King you won't regret it
Nice owner, cool dude. Got the gyro plate, a gyro, and a Slovauki (beef) plate, all were delicious and a great bang for your buck. Tons of food for how much you pay. Seasoned well, and the rice was delicious. Their website is a little weird, but they're a legit Mediterranean shop, give them a try!
The food isn’t cheap, but the portions are generous and the flavors are spot on. We ordered the combo plate (gyros + beef) and added chicken as a side since they were out of hummus. We also got falafels (biggg one). I’m usually not a fan of gyros, but this place changed my mind, they’re a must-try here. The rice was seasoned really well, and the falafel had a unique flavor we really liked. The place is small and gives off more of a takeout vibe than a dine-in experience. We ordered to-go and the food came out fast. Friendly service. Overall 5/5
Pita King serves delicious Middle Eastern recipes in large portions, great spot to know about for take out orders when you're on the go doing errands near Costco San Marcos. 😋
Absolutely delicious gyros, but the best dish is their Lamb Shank in Burgundy Sauce😋!!!
Best Mediterranean food I've ever had consistently and very large portion sizes! Alfredo the owner is the best!🎉
This place is amazing and is open late ! Great quality Mediterranean / middle eastern AND Mexican food! The food is great quality with large portion sizes, and the service is fast. Perfect for sharing!Highly recommended :)
This is my favorite greek restaurant in whole SD for 8 years. I moved to east coast before covid and today came to visit first time since 3 years. So sad to see almost all my favorite mexican places stopped giving comdiments, no chips&salsa, portions got small. But this place is same taste, same big portions like 8 years ago. The soulvaki plate in photo is $20 and i swear there is minimum 1lb grilled beef there. I am a big guy and could not finish it myself. Thank u store owner for keeping your standarts in these economy.
First time here. The owner/chef was very nice and friendly. The place looked nice and welcoming. The Gyro Pita was massive! Was more like a big Greek salad layered with a ton of meat and veggies over Pita bread. I stopped by for lunch, but could only finish 1/4 of my pita! The price was a bit higher than I had expected to pay for a light lunch, however it was very delicious and for the amount of food I got, it was well worth it! One Gyro Pita could easily feed too people! I'll definitely come back to this restaurant. I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner, but beware, come Hungry!! p.s. Picture does not give my Gyro Pita any justice, this thing weighed an easy 5lbs!! 😁
The Gyro salad was the best. And the serving size so big, it will take 2 or 3 meals to eat it all. But I will enjoy it all. Can't wait to try more.
This place is adjacent in a parking lot of a gas station. One would never guess the feast available at this restaurant. I recommend they moved to a more appropriate location. Friendly staff great food. There's enough food on this plate to feed three people. About 1395 .00.. and I made it exactly the way I requested. This is the chicken slovaki. No extra charge for a lot of the extra tzatziki. I'm definitely going back. You cannot go on eating here. Thank you Pita King

This place is so good. I have been eating here for years, the new owner bought a few years ago and the food is still super good.
The food is freshly made and the taste is great. Two thumbs up for sure.
Small, hole in the wall in the CHEVRON gas station parking lot, across from grocery store shopping center. My friend told me about this place after complaining about Escondido not having a good Mediterranean restaurant. Found my place on Del Norte, Good food, good portions and delicious. I ordered a combo plate, hummus and a gyro, all good!
Delicious gyros and pita. One entree can easily feed two of you get an extra side of pita.
Huge amazing portions. Food is cooked with love, and very tasty If you go at the right time of day you will be provided with excellent and high quality hand-picked YouTube shorts. I very much enjoyed the entertainment, more restaurants need to adapt to modern entertainment such as the type provided in Pita King. Truly trailblazing in the restaurant entertainment arena. Will be back for the YouTube shorts and the great food
High quality and delicious. I always get the Gyros Large plate combo. I get 2-3 meals out of it! The owner really cares, is super nice, and always goes out of his way to make the best food around. His prices are very low for the generous portions given. Be sure to bring cash to tip!!
They're gyros sandwich is easily 2 or 3 meals for me. Tasty, affordable, no frills. Consistent and delicious. Exactly what I want from my local spot.

I connoisseur of Greek and fine Mediterranean cuisine. There is something about the the flavor sensations that these foods provide that are uniquely delicious. I made the mistakes of trying to eat at some of the lower class or lower quality chain joints and was always left with the real down home cooked Mediterranean style cooking which take an immense amount of time and preparation to get the muriad of tastes to become one on you mouth and palate. This comes from brining olives, seasoning meats, only the freshest ingredients and these are things that won't be found at chain restaurants no matter how good they claim to be. Look for a well established family restaurant where you see people's from that particular culture enjoying themselves. Portions are made to be shared between the family as is the custome with Mediterranean foods everybody orders something the like and then share it with the family. Great salads and vegetarian dishes I recommend the falafel but it's even better with some Gyros meats atop the sandwich. Eat, love, and be merry my friends
HUGE portions! The falafel are patty style so be ready for a volume of food. Fast service and tasty food. Restaurant was closed to seated dining, only take out available. Very reasonably priced for the portions.

I have been going here for 12 years. The food has always been good and the people friendly. But the restaurant inside has been becoming more unpleasant to be in. Last week picking up a to go order the place felt 90 degrees inside, I don't know how that affects cold foods. I was glad I was not dining in! And not many people do, that could be the reason they don't run AC
I wish. I certainly wish I could rate this place higher. However, based on my experience (your mileage may vary). I see no point in coming back here any time soon . This is simply one of those times where I say to myself “I should have cooked for myself or just gone to Wendy’s (which I’m no huge fan of but at least they are consistently basic)” My first clue should have been the utter inability to compute that I hadn’t walked in to pick up an order and wanted to dine in. There were no other diners-in. To their credit, the staff is super friendly. I ordered the souvlaki plate. A warm smile and a window seat (with view of the gas station) and I was anticipating what reviews here convinced me would be some really good and authentic Greek cuisine. Soon it arrived. Silly me, I was hoping against hope but got what I really expected. There are no dishes or cutlery. The food came out in the styrofoam containers you would recieve in a to-go order. Plastic fork and cheap napkins as well. I opened the containers and was greeted to a promising sight. Portions that were alright for the cost and vibrant colors. I immediately went for a bite of a clove of roasted garlic (my favorite)! Yuck!!! The clove had gone rancid. It smelled of chemical and tasted of the same. A kind of ammonia/urine flavor to it. Maybe it was just the one?… Ptoo!!! Nope. I plucked all of the garlic out of the dish. Okay how about the roasted onions? First one sweet as expected and a nice bite. The second one… a spoiled off-flavor. Different from the ammonia garlic but still spoiled. Okay the bell pepper… again first one sweet as expected. The rest bleckh! Again off to the side. I then tried the steak. It wasn’t distinctly seasoned. Some of the strips were tender and nice tho. Others like shoe leather. Sadly all had flavor of the garlic ammonia it had been under with slight bad onion. Let’s kick that to the side and check out the rice. Again. Not significantly seasoned, but cooked well. There was a lingering taste of what I can only describe as old char to the rice. Sadly, it too had picked up some of the awful garlic urine flavor. So no rice. I decided to focus on my salad. At this point I was now attuned to the expectation that the vegetables were going to be bad. Fortunately my first few bites were good. However, one cucumber piece presented with again a been-too-long-in-the-cooler flavor. I’m done. The best thing about my meal, and the only thing I finished (>90% of everything else remains in the styrofoam headed to the trash in a minute) was my unsweetened Pure Leaf tea. Scores: Price: $$$ Quantity: 4/5 Presentation: 3/5 Friendliness: 5/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Location: 2/5 Flavor: 1/5 Freshness: 2/5 Would I bring my wife on a date here? No Would I suggest my team from work to lunch here? No Would I order from here for delivery? No Would I give the staff the time of day if I saw them on the street? Absolutely Would I come again? The staff is super friendly. I would try again in a month or so. I hate to write a restaurant off from a first experience (unless the staff is horrible). So Yes. I would. But not very soon. I just really hope my meal was a fluke.
*Edited review The guys that work here are always very nice. It's been a while since we've ordered from here. Sadly the Greek food has changed and not for the better. This was a big letdown. The "tzatziki" that used to be so good is now just plain warm yogurt with a dash of pepper and zero flavor. The greens on the gyro were wilted and the tomatoes were mushy. The french fries were undercooked and then steamed in a styro container so they were wet mush and unappetizing. So the fries went into the trash while they were still hot. The gyro meat is chewy and leaves you with bits left in your mouth the way that sausage does. It wasn't like this before. They are also selling Mexican food now which is a little strange. I basically just wasted $26 + tip. No more for us. We already miss the old Pita King. Review from 7 years ago: Pita King has the best gyros in town, hands down!

Horrible Service I paid for 2 family platters and they only gave us one and when I asked him where was the other tray he said that was two in one tray what a frickin lie and a scam never going there again don't recommend it to anyone
Zero stars. Would not recommend. No spoons. No salt shakers. Ketchup only in packets. No high chairs for kids. One dollar charge for using a card. Microscopic "portion" of tziki sauce, roughly half a table spoon. And meat has bones in it that crack your teeth. Terrible! Not a restaurant in any sense of the word. Below the level of fast food. It's a glorified snack stand with overpriced food that takes them 20 minutes to make. Food does taste pretty good if you overlook everything else

This place used to be my favorite Greek place (to pick up food from), but that all changed last week. I ordered 2 gyros plates with NO onions and salad dressing on the side. When I picked up my food and opened up my containers, I found a couple of grilled onions in both gyros plates and no salad dressing for either one of my salads. WTH! On top of that, both orders barely had any meat! I don't know if this establishment is under new management, but I remember this place used to give out a lot of meat... Needless to say, it just ain't what it used to be, so now I'll have to find a new Greek restaurant to order from.
