I had a fantastic experience at Madea’s! The oxtails were absolutely delicious—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The food was fresh, hot, and served quickly. The staff was friendly and efficient, making the entire visit smooth and enjoyable. I really appreciated the warm atmosphere and generous portions. Highly recommend if you’re craving authentic Southern comfort food done right!
I chair an event at church and I was getting peach cobbler from Meadeas. I like to get a variety of desserts. I could not find the location. The are has changed so much and my gps was taking me in circles. I had to ask a native FW person to dirct me. The peach cobbler went so fast so I guess it was good. I went back and for ox tails. The wait can be long if you carrying out. The staff is nice and friendly. The facility is small and intimate. Will go back again if I can find the place.
Amazing food. How to drive all the way from denton tx just to get some real soul food
It’s Almost Becoming Rare To Find A Place Worthy Of 5-Stars!!!🤯🎉😲 My Husband Took Me To This Awesome Place And I Was Very Pleased And Shocked By How Good (Goodttt) EVERYTHING Was!!!😋 All Of The Staff We EnCountered Was Amazing!!!🤩 I Recommend This Place 10/10!!! I Can’t Wait To Go Back!!!🙌🏾🫶🏽🙌🏾
Madeas is a little off the main roads but you’ll be glad you found it! Their meat, side offerings and desserts are homemade and very delicious!
Some of the best soul food you can get service was great food came out quick and was very good and it came with a lot of food very good bang for your buck recommend going
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had the pleasure of visiting Madea’s Restaurant for the first time, and I was absolutely blown away! I ordered the rice and beef tips, while my husband had the oxtail, and both dishes were packed with flavor. The meat was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. We also tried a couple of sides, and the peach cobbler was the perfect sweet finish to the meal. Everything came out hot and fresh—just the way you want your comfort food! Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving a delicious, home-cooked meal. We’ll definitely be back!
Overall the food was great, I didn’t realize you could change the order of Beef Tips/Rice to Beef Tips over Mashed Potato. My table’s other entrees: Chicken Spaghetti (excellent) and Fried Pork Chop (excellent). Veggies: Yams (excellent), Greens (excellent), Okra/Tomato (good), Broccoli/Cheese Casserole (good), mac/cheese (just ok). Dessert: Peach Cobbler (excellent). Hot Water Cornbread was excellent. I would return to see how the Beef Tips would taste with the Mashed Potato. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant…excellent customer service.
Beat dam soul food we have ever had. Best beef tip and rice. Even there mac and cheese is great. I highly recommend this place of your in the mood for comfort and soul food. Five stars is not enough. Our new favorite place.
Very good food. Careful with the sweet tea and Kool aid. Very sweet .
1st time visiting: Food was wonderful. A little pricey for the oxtail plate ($20.00), but everything else was decent prices. Especially for the portion you are given. Delicious flavors, right amount of seasonings. The peach cobbler & German chocolate cake was 🔥🔥🔥 (fire). The fountain lemonade is thirst quenching 😋 Environment kept clean as well, felt I was at mima house eating Sunday dinner. Will definitely be back. Thank you!
This place reminds me of a family reunion atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon… we enjoyed chatting with other customers as we waited in line . The food choices were so amazing that it was hard for my husband and I to choose . I got the turkey wings with gravy and he chose the catfish. For sides we got yams , macaroni and cheese, dressing , and hot water cornbread with sweet potato pie. Sweet tea Kool Aid If you love soul food This place is worth the drive Average was $30 each Mind you the servings were massive ! You will have enough for 2-3 servings
Best soul food I’ve had in Fort Worth, delicious, well seasoned, fresh, and will fry your fish as you order it, no old, dried, greasy, fish. The staff is friendly, willing to explain and offer the visitors a sample and tell you how is made. I had the vegetarian dish collard green's, green beans, sweet potatoes or yams, Spanish beans and corn bread. My friend ordered, oxtails, fried fish, and smothered pork chops, to go. She isn’t cooking this weekend. Great place❣️
Amazing restaurant. Friendly staff. Little to no wait. I constantly recommend this place to friends.
This is a trip worth taking when near Fort Worth, this is the real deal. The food is excellent and reminds me of my late grandma's down home cooking, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu
A must stop! Everything you could want in soul food. The staff is friendly, well trained, and provides the best hospitality. Support local and definitely make a stop at Madea’s!
This is an experience like nowhere else. Don't let the line discourage you, the food is beyond worth it. Everything is amazing, including the meatloaf, the chicken tetrazzini, and the beef tips. All of the sides are terrific, as well as the employees. Always smiling, and they pass out bottle water to those in line, how sweet!
what a gem i take my hat off to this place and give them my favorite of this year so far , the portions are superior the food is so good and seasoned to perfection the prices are compatible with the portions , we stumbled on this place and sure am glad we decided to stop on by we took a break from the norm of the usual tacos, hamburgers and pho the atmosphere is so culture and non judgemental all i can say is this place Is the spot 10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me ya gotta go there
INCREDIBLY GOOD FOOD! Yes, I'm shouting... it's that tasty! Friendly, welcoming staff make you feel right at home and the vittles blow me away every time we visit. Faves: Smothered Pork chops; Oxtails (expensive but HUGE servings); Fried Catfish; Beef Tips; Cabbage; Black Eyed Peas; Greens; Broccoli and Rice Casserole.
Madea's is a great soul found kitchen in fort Worth Texas/ Everman TX great service, food is hot, smells wonderful, and employees are always friendly. This place is small but can fill up QUICKLY! Alot of people order their food and go home but if you decide to stay and eat you get the feeling of being home in your mom's kitchen. Just a place for food, family, friends, and everyone. Also you get VERY LARGE PORTIONS so bring your appetite. Multi-cultured.
Was in the area traveling for work and found this place. I ordered the beef n rice w/ Mac, gumbo, and yams. Good eats!!!
I'm not a local.. I live in New Jersey but I'm a southerner at heart and love good soul food. On a dear friend's suggestion, I drove a long way to get this great plate of food today and boy I was not disappointed! Great atmosphere inside, the line moved quickly as the gents behind the counter ensured everyone's order was on point. Food is amazing! The instant I got in my car to drive back to my hotel I had to taste something so I went for the greens.. sigh.. they made me regret not living closer. Perfectly seasoned just needing a fork. I mean..I can cook but nothing like this. Oxtails we juicy, plentiful and big as you can see. Mac and Cheese is soo good it makes me mad that mine isn't even close to this. Perfect Yams, potato salad and cornbread.. Lord have mercy.. just go already.. you know you want some. And don't forget dessert 😉 Anytime I'm back here I'll make it my business to go back over and over. Yum!
Excellent food, plentiful portions and friendly employees and atmosphere. You will love it!
The food is great, a little pricey, very crowed, but worth the wait.
Discovered this spot while attending a conference close by. The staff was really welcoming and friendly. Explained all the food on and off the menu. Generous portions, cooked to perfection. It was a great experience!
Ordered oxtails, mashed potatoes + brown gravy, collard greens, broccoli cheese side dish, and fried corn bread....it was soooooo tasty that the person who bought it ate his own plate and then started to eat my oxtails...I was like no these oxtails are too good to share lol. Oxtails are difficult because if you don't know what you doing it will be chewy and these were so soft falling off the bone and the cartilage was also super soft and flavorful. Excellent job Texas!
The food was perfect the service is great. Even though the building doesn’t look that nice the food makes up for it. come to this place
My first time here. Great food! Very fast service. I had the fried pork chops with greens, mac and cheese, and yams. It was awesome to see hot water corn bread on their menu. I haven't had it in years. My friend got the beef tips. They were just as good as the pork chops. I can't wait to go back!
Everyone here was extremely friendly and the food was amazing, including the best fried chicken wings I've ever had!
This is hands-down the best soul food restaurant that I've experienced since I've been in the DFW area. This visit was on a Sunday afternoon and there was a line way out the door, almost to the street. However, it was well worth the wait!! Also, the staff was beyond friendly. Even though it was close to closing and my food got mixed up with somebody else's, I will definitely return again. Who's ever food I had was damn delicious😋
OMG this food is soo good. No season needed. Comes seasoned and taste soo good. I will definitely be back. I could kiss the cook, but my man want allow that. Lol
Lawd...lawd....lawd this is some good food. You best come here hungry. This little place is worth the drive to visit. Friendly family type of staff. Great choices of food. All food is fresh. I had cake as dessert that melted in my mouth. The ox tails and pork chops were well seanoned and tender. All this food is served buffet style. You will need a wheelbarrow to get you to your car after you eat. Update. The food is still good. Man I left out of here full again. This time I had to take some togo.
Came just based off the reputation of the Google reviews and we loved it. Yes, a little pricey but you're getting some HUGE portions and quality food. (Honestly, the wife and I could've split one meal) Highlights were the beef tips and rice and the Mac and cheese. Honestly though everything was good. Chef Steve is a master! We'll be back soon!
Today was my first time experiencing Madea’s and the food was so amazing! The portions are huge! I am very impressed with how tender the meat was and the flavor packed into every single side I chose. I got the beef tips and rice and my spouse got the smothered pork chops, both were fantastic!
Madea's has some of the best soul food in Texas! I've never been here, so Saturday was our first time coming to this particular Restaurant. We were not disappointed! I ordered the Smothered Pork Chops with white rice, corn, and broccoli rice, and cheese! It was delicious 😋 My husband ordered the Ox Tails, Mac and Cheese, Greens, and sweet potatoes. 😋 I had hot water corn bread, and he had the dinner roll. We also ordered desserts the sweet potato pie, and peacan pie 🥧 OMG they were both delicious 😋 I definitely would recommend this restaurant!! Keep in mind that if you order any fried foods, the wait time will be anywhere from 12 minutes to 15 minutes depending on what you order! You can eat there or get it to go. We decided to eat there. They open at 11am, so we arrived about 12 noon and it was only about 3 customers in the restaurant, but as soon as 1pm rolled around it started getting very busy! There is also plenty of parking and we had no problem with that either. But as customers started to flow in, the parking starts to get a little bit scares 😱 Onw other thing our bill was $61.00 for the two of us! The ox tails were $27.00 and change. So be sure to look at prices if you're not wanting to pay a great deal. I personally thought that was a bit steap, however we were already there, and that's what my husband wanted so we paid the $27.00. Also the pieces of Pies were $6.50 ea. I felt that was a bit much too. But again we just didn't take a moment to look at prices. It's like cafeteria style service, and you pay at the end of the line when you're food gets down the line to you, (if that helps).
There was so much food on my plate that I had enough for 2 days plus a little extra. Waited a little over an hour in line but that mac and cheese was worth it alone. The staff is so sweet and friendly. Definitely a down home country feel where everyone is welcomed. The food is so good. I had fried pork chops, mac and cheese, greens, broccoli casserole and hot water cornbread. 🤗😍
Was visiting from Indiana. Tried for first time after friend highly recommended it, and it was the best soul food restaurant we’ve ever eaten at! Everything was fresh and hot, and the staff was professional and friendly. We had the ox tails, greens, yams, broccoli cheese casserole, 3 different desserts-absolutely delicious! And when I say even the Kool-aid was good-if we lived there, it would be a regular stop for sure! Definitely going back when we return to Dallas! God bless you!
Glad I finally got to try this soulful place. The food was great and seasoned to perfection. Many main dishes and sides to choose from. I had beef tips and rice with brown gravy 😋, yams, greens, okra/tomato, and hot water cornbread. Sweet tea. The first bite and couldn't stop. I forgot about the tea until the end 😅. My friend was quiet like me. Savoring every bite Thank you Madeas 😊
We ordered food through their catering services with Sara. We had catfish, fried wings, Mac & cheese, greens, and cornbread. Everything was so good! Also, thanks to Justin for helping me to my car to load the food.
If u want grandma home cook meals gotta come to Madea’s. Love the food.. great music, pleasant atmosphere and everyone friendly. 5 star for sure.
If there were 10 🌟 Madea's is 10+. If you want home cooked taste this is your place. Every thing about this place is above and beyond excellent. Oh and the portions you get is worth every cent, I got the kids plate and had to bring 1/2 home. No room for their dessert. Did not get my husbands smothered 2 large porkchops with cabbage and yams.
As soon as you pull in, it smells like grandma's cooking, guy at the front of the Line serving your meats, has great hospitality and character. Line workers actually work as a team an the unity of them is amazing. NOW THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, TASTEFUL, and has plenty of flavor. Chicken express tea has nothing on their sweet tea🥴lol. Kool was on point, every child's drink and dream to taste will come true. But don't take my word for it, go try it for yourself. I'll definitely be eating there every time I come to town! You know it goods when it's make you want to slap your mama lol!
Madeas was great today. I had the oxtails my friend and kids had the necknones with rice and baked chicken. The sides cabbage, greens, mac ncheese blackeyed peas and cabbage was delicious. The kids enjoyed the kool-aid and tea but I felt that it was too sweet The hospitality was definitely a plus. We traveled from Arlington and Mansfield. We took the normal route from I-20 to Madea's but enjoy the scenic route down Dick Price to our homes. We will be back soon. Sorry no pictures.
Best food in Texas! But it’s far away, and unhealthy because it’s so so good. Smothered pork chops with extra gravy scrapped from the pan over rice. Add greens & cabbage. Then it’s time to sleep. Bottom line, would I go back. — every time I get a chance I drive the 45 mins

They give you plenty and I always have enough for the next day. I have 14 yo twin GS and one asked the other what food would he want if he could have it over anything else he has eating. His first choice was Madea's chicken friend steak and his 2nd was my smothered pork chops as both of their 2nd favorite food of all. This is what I get when we eat here and even though it is good, it's not mine, LoL! Nana needs to hold this title and since they've tried Madea's and chose mine as best is just another precious memory I'll leave them with! The portions are like 2 meals for most of us. This is why we order to go even if we are dining in.
Everything and I mean EVERYTHING IN HERE IS DELICIOUS! The love that went into preparing this food made me feel like we walked into grandma's house. When we walked in the food greets you and then the knowledgeable staff explained our dining experience. From letting us know what was on the menu, including selecting multiple meats and sides. Simply because there was no way we only wanted a sample of one thing. We tried every single thing on the menu. The servings are huge, making sure you have some for now and plenty for later. Everything is extremely fresh and seasoned to perfection. I can not express enough MADEAS should be on the top of every lost while in Fort Worth! I'm so full right now but I will come back Everything I'm here. Thank you Madea's!!! If I could give you 100 stars I would
This place is absolutely worth the drive, wherever you live in the DFW lol Everything on the menu is a 10/10. EVERYTHING. I see a lot of ppl talk about the wait times but we're usually there as soon as they open on Saturdays so we never have a wait to get in. It does take a few mins to get your food if you're ordering anything fried but it isn't a long time. The oxtail is my fav and my sides change every time we go since they're all tasty. AND THE HOT WATER CORNBREAD??? OMGGGGG so freaking good!!
Let this Go on the Record as Madea's Down Home Cooking is Exactly what it Says Down Home Cooking! 🤤 This definitely is the Best Place in the DFW I've eaten at since I been coming to Texas! I love to cook and I'm very Particular about my Soul Food! When I say that everything I ate was Good! I mean everything I ate was Good and Everything on my Daughter's plate 🍽️ that I samples was Good! Usually when you ask what's good and the worker says everything, it's usually not the truth, but the guy on the line was Friendly and we were talking about the Food and he was on point 👉🏽 about everything that was listed and on the Line of Foods. He even was exactly right about that Strawberry 🍓 🍰 he said to my Daughter taste the cake before you leave, he wanted to see the reaction on our Faces because he said it was gonna melt 🫠 in your mouth 🙊 and let me tell you it Melted in my Mouth! I had Fried Catfish 6 PCs. Greens, Cabbage 🥬 and Red Beans 🫘 Catfish was cooked to order so it was piping Hot 🔥🥵 all the Sides were really Good, My Daughter had Fried Pork Chops and Man! They were Hot 🔥 and Seasoned Perfectly! She also Mac n 🧀 Cheese, Cabbage 🥬 and Red Beans 🫘 and Rice 🍚. We both were really amazed and already thinking about Coming back with her Coworkers and our other Family. Finally I can take guests in from out of town a Place that has real Southern Down Home Cooking! Because I usually get stuck cooking for our guests because we could never find a place that made everything as Good as we had Here! Madea's Down Home Cooking Gets all 5+⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐+⭐ Star's and the Plus was because they had Parking and the Whole Restaurant was Clean 🫧🪥. I enjoyed the Whole experience and I will be Back especially to try them Neckbones and Oxtails. 🤤😂😂😂😂 Oh! and I took home the 4-Sides veggie Platter because I had too much to eat at one sitting.
This place is the truth! You get your money's worth at Madea's. Fresh, hot & cooked to order fried options. Chicken wings were so crispy and juicy!!! Everything is seasoned to perfection, great staff, clean restaurant and lots of great options to choose from. Big momma would be proud. From yams, greens, macaroni n cheese, cabbage, black eyed peas, hot water cornbread, peach cobbler, chicken fried steak, fish, chicken wings and more! Can't get enough!

High recommend this place. The food is amazing , the staff is very friendly and will take care of you. Ox tail, chicken , or beef tip, can't go wrong and don't skip on the sweet potato pie!
I've been here about 6-7 times in the last couple of weeks. Just started working around the corner and wanted some home cooked food. Glad I found this place
Food is delicious! My company used them to cater an event for over 150 people. It was outstanding! Southern home style food! Yes!!!
I really enjoyed the food. The proportions were very good. You have to wait in line, but they do everything Cook to order if you Hope order things like chicken fried chicken, which was really good …

Food is AMAZING! I’m only giving 4 stars because walking into this place is confusing. The walkway was blocked off with chairs with only like 4 tables available that were full. The rest of the tables didn’t have any chairs, so I had to come taste my food in the car. Business is BLACK OWNED which is why I drive out my way to try it. Again the food was A1 but the confusion from walking into the restaurant, ordering, paying, and eating was not a pleasant dining experience like the sign said on the front door.
Fish was fresh and hot. Yams were good not too sweet but just right. Didn’t particularly like the broccoli rice and cheese, a little extra wet and lacks flavor. Gravy over the rice was delicious. Would have preferred white bread over the hush puppies. Husband said the strawberry cake was moist and delicious. Overall pretty good.
Love their food and consistency. Definitely has a good, down-home cooking feeling. The guys working the food line are always pleasant. I I'm giving it a 4.5 star. The only thing that I didn't like even though it has a good taste, is the hot water cornbread. It just tastes a little stale/tough to chew like it's been sitting or been reheated. Love the mac and cheese, it actually tastes like freshly shredded cheese was used. The sweet potato are delicious. And I love the Black eyed peas. Those are my top three sides. I've also had to collard greens. They're decent and edible, and I order them sometimes. I typically get the four vegetable plate, or chicken tetrazzini. Today I tried to meatloaf which was pretty good. I've gone 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and I live on the Eastside.
Ordered turkey wings and greens and macaroni sides were a little small but tasted delicious would like to try their baked chicken next.ps don't forget the Koolaide what is soul without it
Nothing negative to say about my meal. Absolutely amazing. Chicken fried to perfection 👌 👍🏿. The SWEET POTATOES OMG. THE BEST. The greens were good. I'm not a collard green fanatic I normally pick at them on my plate. The mac n cheese was giving 10/10🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾 don't change anything. Cornbread was a nice touch not sweet like cake so that makes it perfect. Nice portions so 1st plate gets a 9 overall greens could be more flavorful. Let's get into plate #2 Not mines based on someone else's taste buds. Baked chicken was flavorful nice warm color to it however based on preference could be cooked longer ,reports some pink on inside but not raw. Cabbage was ok.kinda mid.(I thought the cabbage was pretty good tho) Mac n cheese amazing. Broccoli rice cheese casserole was great. Overall rating plate#2: 6
Enjoyed my lunch! This spot came highly recommend. I have heard several church members as well as family members speak about this restaurant. When my co workers said they were going here for lunch I jumped in the 🚗!! I really enjoyed the yams and 🥦 and 🧀 casserole...yummy 😋!! The hot water cornbread...yesssss!! My co worker said they Koolaid was off the chain!!! Thanks Madea's!!!
This was my first time hearing about this restaurant. I searched good soul food near me. Upon entering it's set up like a lubys vibe. I love that, you can also order fresh prepared items. I purchased 2 (10) piece fish plates. 1 had Mac and cheese, corn and yams the other one had Mac and cheese, yams and broccoli casserole. With hot water corn bread. I can say everything was delicious except the hot water cornbread. I like mine on the light side and sweet. Theirs are heavy and not sweet. But it did not take away from the rest of the food. I also got a side of potatoe salad, banana pudding and pecan pie. I thank you so much for giving a first try everything I was liking for because I didn't feel like cooking🤣🤣🤣.
Out of me and my wife’s’ food, these were the best things I tasted here. The baked chicken was way better than the chicken fried steak, The broccoli cheddar rice casserole was better than the Mac and cheese, and the roll was better than the fried cornbread. My wife really didn’t like the collards greens and the mashed potatoes were ok. I was specifically disappointed with the cornbread, there was no sweetness to it, all the sugar was on the kool aid lol. I do have to say that the peach cobbler was absolutely delicious and that alone will have me coming back. The staff was very friendly and service was fast. It did feel pricey but the portion was very generous. I would recommend take out rather than dining in since all food is on to-go plates already. Lastly, I want to say that I really loved the sweet yams and can’t wait to eat that later as a snack. 😋
I have loved Madea's for years - but to pay what I paid to get very smaller portions is ridiculous. I will not be Back. I know the economy is bad but I used to could eat a meal for 2 days. Greed!
Down home, soul food was good and pretty tasty! Portions were large! I was so glad to try it.
We ordered a few things (pork chops, smothered turkey wing, chicken fried chicken, chicken wings, & the fried fish). w/ different side. \nMe & my family enjoyed a few things like the fried chicken …
The food is so freaking good and\nthe portions are almost enough for two!\nThe wait is super long on weekends.\nThe cash register guy could use a course in customer service.

Listen!! If your going on a Sunday be prepared for a wait, we tried to enter the building and the line was at the door, the way the have the line running is needs to be redone. We waited in the line standing up for 27 mins, when we finally got to the front where they take your order, the food is right in front of you so you tell them what you want on your plate, the guy who's taking the orders writes on the food container what you want then they tell you to take a seat😵💫, the next guy puts meat, the next guy puts sides ,the next person bags it up then it just sits there on the counter until your name is called to go to the register to pay😵💫 this took an additional 32 mins. I don't understand this process and it should be re organized, if your already putting my food in the container why do I need to sit and wait🤔. (See pic of orders just lined up sitting on the counter) Any way the food was Mid..(ok). they do give you enough portions to share or if you want to save some for lunch the next day.
I heard about this place for years. The first time I went was with my Aunt who wanted to try the restaurant. I only got an unsweet tea and a peach cobbler I ended up giving away to my brother. She said the beef tips and rice she got was good. And a large portion.
Food was okay but instore customer service is not good. Dismissive staff that acts annoyed and comes off very unwelcoming; just something to keep in mind. Pretty expensive for okayish portion sizes. I got the fried pork chops (which had fat that wasnt good) and fried chicken. Chicken tasted good but would not order the porkchop again. Sides were mac and cheese, collar greens and mash potatoes with brown gravy; all were average nothing that couldnt be made from store brought products. I expected alot more based off the reviews but would only see myself returning for the chicken if I truly craved it.
Honestly I wish it was home cooked and not canned greens and yams. If everything was made in house then it would be 5 stars but unfortunately it’s not. Still good so definitely give it a try. Just don’t expect that grandma Madea’s cooking flavor.
I ordered beef tips and rice, collard, green mashed potatoes and Black Eyed Peas the beef tips and rice. I had more beef than rice. Seem like they just put a spoon of rice in the plate with all of this beef tip. I asked for brown gravy I didn’t get any gravy on my beef tips. The greens were dark And bitter. I couldn’t even eat the greens. The mashed potatoes was soupy. The Black Eyed Peas didn’t have no flavor and they give you a small portion of everything now they lost my business.
My husband and I have purchased there for many years and they gave enough food to eat two meals which was a good thing since the food is so pricey. Just recently they've started putting all the s…
The food is not the same. The set up is crazy. They still have the line you can see the food. But you have to go to the cashier area and someone writes your order and you wait for them to fix it, w…
After Sunday service, before going to visit my mother, I always get her some good southern food. Normally, from my fav spots that always hit the spot for her. Waiting in the long line this Sunday was too much, so while traveling to the other fav spot, I saw Madea's and pulled up. The name itself gave the impression of some good food. Now, my mother back in the day before her illness put the soul in all food southern cooked. She still can taste and judge . Walking in the place gave a feeling of hold on tight to your purse and hole-in- the-wall vibe. The servers and male cashier could have been more attentive and welcoming. The food and desert lineup wasn't that presentable or impressive. A hard decision was made on baked chicken, yams, blackeyed peas, kids, fried chicken wings, broccoli rice casserole, green beans, and pies, lemon chess and sweet potato. With a sweet tea. Mother picked over the food with a few bites and was done. I tried some of the kids' items and only found the hot water cornbread, casserole and lemon chess pie was worthy of 3 stars at most. The other items were either tasteless or poorly cooked. The tea and kool-aid is too sweet and unhealthy. SN: For the upscale prices, Madea's is charging doesn't makeup or qualify for southern goodness or getting the food or service you deserve. Spending the time and half your dime waiting in line at L**y's will always satisfy your southern goodness pallet. **Remember stars can lie until you give my review a try 😉
This food used to be good pre-covid. Not sure who they got back there cooking now. Oxtails UNSEASONED. Pork chops UNSEASONED. Gravy UNSEASONED. Beans CANNED.
I’m a truck driver, I’ve had Soul Food from all over the place....I saw that this was the go to place in the area, I should have went with my first mind an go to Pappadeux where I’ve never been disappointed!! But, I was trying to support a black owned business. Bad idea, yesterday!! Fist off I called the order in and was told to give them 35 minutes. Upon arriving line had about 10 people outside the door, I wait.....finally get inside an was told it’ll be another 30 minutes cause they are behind. So, I told them I don’t have the time to wait, just refund me my money. Lady said.....she will personally fix the plate just give her a minute. I did, get my food and I left! When I got situated to eat my food, I noticed I had no yams on my plate, no cornbread, the hush puppies was like little pebble rocks(that hard)and she gave me unsweetened tea(such a sin). I ordered the $23.00 Oxtail plate with cabbage, yams, dressing and a order of Catfish to try. They only gave me 4 bones of Oxtail that had no seasoning whatsoever, the Cabbage was not seasoned at all, the dressing was ok. I had the Peach Cobbler as well it was good!! I must say.....that Catfish was seasoned well and was good!! But, I would never pay $43 for such bland unseasoned food, it was horrible!! If you guys ever come to Atlanta and want Soul Food go to Big Daddy’s on Old National Highway you will not be disappointed. Best Soul Food I have every had from an establishment, everything is well seasoned and always good!! This place was a horrible experience, I’ll never be back!!
The greens and the peach cobbler were awful today 2/21/26 the greens taste VERY sweet and they were dark in color. Greens are NOT suppose to be sweet. Horrible!! The candid yams were mushy, cabbage was cold, and the peach cobbler was waaaayy too sweet.Quite an embarrassment after bragging on you so much to my family. Please fix these issues! As you are a little bit expensive, we should be satisfied with our food, so we can come back. Please!! Do you have new cooks? It was NOT good.😔
It's been almost 5 yrs since I have eaten here. Food WAS good, THEN. Even took my sister who came to visit. Greens taste just like sugar. Hot water corn bread was so so, even the peach cobbler so so. Asked a gentleman who works there if they changed cooks He informed me the cook passed ( my condolences). New cook needs some new tips. Catfish still good. After paying $60 wouldn't go back.
I really wanted to like this place I’m not sure if I went on a bad day or what but I got the catfish plate and the catfish was SO GOOD, but the greens were seasonless and bitter, the yams taste like just white sugar and vanilla, and the Mac and cheese tastes like velveeta, milk, and noodles. The peach cobbler was underwhelming but edible enough. Looked like they used some kind of jelly for it or pie filling. I’m guessing there is no cinnamon in the establishment. Anyways I wish the business well. This is just my experience!
Unfortunately I visited Madea's for the first and the last time Friday, October 18, 2024. Zero customer service, not even hello, you are welcome, thank you or a smile. I ordered smothered pork cho…
Food, lol you want to eat collard greens, pig's feet. Service , don't smile might crack you face. Smile only for the black folks. ambiance , seen inside of barn better than this place.
“The food was very disappointing. I spent $40, and it tasted like it was cooked by a 2-year-old. Definitely not worth the price. It lacked the depth and flavor of real soul food. Honestly, I just rea…

My greens were sweet and not a lot of flavor. There was a Hispanic guy that was rude and not understanding on a mistake they made. I wont go back.
I've eaten here for years and I have noticed over the years a decline in both food taste and service. The food today was nothing short of what I think they would serve in prison. There was no taste, beef tasted like it came out of a can. No seasoning. The Mac n cheese tasted sour. Overall the quality is sub-par at best. The owner has a major attitude, never smiles and if new people don't understand the process for paying he yells with an attitude anout when to pay. Overall experience was very disappointing. I brought 3 new people with me today and they were very disappointed also. This is the last chance. The guy at the beginning of the line taking orders is always kind. Polite and awesome to work with it.
What the heck has happened to the food quality? I haven't been here in a couple of years and it just is not the same! Meatloaf was still pink and uncooked in center. Absolutely disgusting to serve it as such. You've gotta see that in plating. Sides are meh. Used to love the hot water cornbread and even that aint the same. Extremely disappointing because this has always been so good.
It bad when go get chicken and mess it cook too hard end up just trash after two pieces. Tell you 20 minutes wait the 30 minutes then gave me side that had been waiting on chicken and they were cold. But Mac cheese was good and the guy that was serving the food. They need to move cashier he and ole lady had all attitude. I remember now why 2019 was last time I visited.
This is my first and last time here. I asked for baked chicken with the gravy on the side. Sight will not allow my pictures. I should have gone to "Sweet Georgia Browns", portions overflow in Dallas. None of the very small sides were put on the to go plate just chicken and plain gravy. I will not be back.
When I tell you madeas has truly fell off. This is coming from a person that grew up with them. Don’t let the lights decoration and tv fool you. First and foremost the process was really rushed . You would be lucky if you got an hello or even eye contact. The customer service was loud and came off as hurry up. It would give you anxiety if it’s your first time. So definitely know what you want because they won’t help you . Second the food was very cold dry and bland . The sides tasted as if they were drowned in sugar. Things I didn’t even know suppose to have sugar. If you want soul food , possibly come here and try but definitely don’t waste the money on the oxtails. Even the hot sauce didn’t do it justice. It’s full of fat and dry with no taste or gravy or anything. The love was not made and this food at all
My family and I went today for dinner after about a year or so of not visiting. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, especially after driving 30min to/from. The mac and cheese was runny with a decent flavor, collard greens were old and sweet, pinto beans, black eyed peas had no flavor. I did not taste the sweet potatoes but my family was not happy with them either. The rice was minute rice and overcooked and brown gravy had no flavor whatsoever tasted prepackaged. The fried chicken was under seasoned. The fish <insert long pause> was barely even fish they cut one filet of the fish into thin strips and called them ribs, they gave me 16 thin pieces of mostly fat…barely any meat to them 16 pieces of the middle of the fish (the dark line that runs down the middle of a filet) is what I received. Not to mention the fish was old and had a strong fishy taste to it. Banana pudding was subpar. My mom ordered oxtail and informed that they were delicious, the sides were trash. For almost $160 I’m pissed off about it…the customer service was subpar as well, the guy taking the orders started off decent but quickly became unpleasant and so did the guy at the register. I don’t know what happened to this restaurant but I’m not happy with my experience today at all. I won’t be back and will continue to cook for my family at home.
I have been coming here for over 5+ years off and on. The food has most often been very good and spot on. I got the meatloaf plate with 3 veggies. I was disappointed in the flavor/ quality of it. The extra red tomato sauce was tangy as if it had vinegar added. The macaroni and cheese was boxed and had no flavor. The yams were on point. The side off green beans overcooked with bacon bits added was disappointing. 20$ for this was a joke. Though everything looked presentable the flavor and quality was definitely missing. If you want to try them go for it. But don't say nobody gave you a warning before you are disappointed.
I ordered 2 plates 1- oxtail 1 fish. I delivered the oxtail plate to my husband for his lunch while he was at work last night. He said this morning those weren't oxtails in my order they were neck bones so as I went to put up his left over I said those are neck bones. When the restaurant opened I called to let them know what I received I was instructed to send pictures which I did and was told they needed to see what was in the plate. I sent them the pictures I had and was greeted with a ma'am and attitude! I've been here on several occasions and the drive is almost a hour. Poor service when you're selling beef neck bones as oxtails.
