Great service and delicious food! We went to a Selena paint event and had a great time! If you’re looking for amazing carne guisada enchiladas, this is the spot. The meat was seasoned just right and so tender it practically melted in my mouth. Paired with the rich, flavorful sauce, these enchiladas were unforgettable. Hands down some of the best I’ve had anywhere.
This Mexican restaurant has been a staple for years, and it’s easy to see why. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care. From the homemade tortillas to the perfectly seasoned carne guisada, every dish tastes authentic and comforting. The staff treats you like family, and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. It’s one of those places you keep coming back to because it never disappoints. Highly recommend!
Love Love the tejano music playing throughout the restaurant. Didn't get a chance to take any pictures of our food. My husband ordered the carne guisada plate and myself ordered the crispy taco plate. Very Delicious! Definitely going back to try their breakfast.
This was the first time I’ve eaten carne guisada enchiladas. Omg they are delicious. The meat was super tender. The gravy was on point and the rice and beans did not disappoint. We came to watch Bumpers Wacky Wednesday.
First time here and I had the chilaquiles and they were so good will definitely be coming back to try out more of the items on the menu!!
This place was amazing! Definitely recommend getting the big back special and if you want spice to it you can add fajita veggies w jalapeños
I can't believe I've been driving past this place for years and never knew it was on the back side of the strip mall. Family-owned and delious food!! Had the $8.95 daily special of chicken mole enchiladas with rice, beans plus tea and I highly recommend it. This place has a unique atmosphere with Tejano music memorabilia on the walls, honoring its founder, Tejano legend Gilbert Rodriguez. I will be bringing all my co-workers back here for lunch.
The beef enchiladas are so good, the meat is seasoned and flavored the cheese they use it so good as well get extra cheese you won’t be disappointed. Rice is good I love that it’s just rice and nothing added in like peas and other stuff. The only thing I would change are the refried beans maybe add some bacon drips to give it a little flavor other than that this place is solid. My grandma loved her menudo!!!!
This place has such a cool vibe, totally digging the tejano music theme! The food was absolutely delicious, seriously tasty tex-mex grub. Plus, the service was super fast and everyone was so friendly. It's definitely my new go-to spot for a great meal. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!
Me my mom and my stepdad, sister enjoyed Ann Marie as our waitress she was so funny outgoing. Food was super quick out enchiladas are 10/10. My step dad art martinez was the one that picked this place absolutely want to take my kids and my boyfriend. I’ll be back thank you for your service ❤️
The Location Is 👍🏼 Service: The Older Man That Came By To Take Our Order Was Very Nice And He Served Us Well. I Chose The Javi Special!!! I Really Liked The Guisada With The Tortillas, Rice And Beans It Was Excellentè👌🏼… My Son Had The Spanish Plate With The Chicken, He Really Liked It And Was Asking For a Second Plate He Was So Hungry 🤤. Thank you to Ann Marie for taking care of my family on our visit recently. Wife and I hadn't been in years and of course we were excited to go back and eat again. Table service was great, conversation with Ann Marie was nice, and of course food was made to perfection. All came out well with my family's experience and of course we're looking forward to returning again soon.
1st time trying Gilberts (I saw my friend did their business cards and recommended) let me say the carne guisada enchiladas were bomb chips and salsa was 🤌🏻 tea perfectly sweetened.. all in all 10/10 I highly recommend & a huuuge thank you to AnnMarie (our server) A+ customer service can’t wait to be back and try the big back special!
First time here. Although I normally look for a "standard" plate called the Tejas plate, with enchiladas and carne guisada, I was pleasantly surprised they had CARNE GUISADA ENCHILADAS! 🤯 They were delicious! Soft chunks of meat, gravy, and cheese all mixing together...mmmm. Nice, fluffy rice and tasty beans accompanied by some hot and pillowy soft flour tortillas. I'd like to come back and try more plates! Ask for the green salsa if you like spicier salsa! 🔥👍 our waitress was also very attentive and friendly!
First time here at Gilbert’s , lived in San Antonio all my life , why did I wait this long is all I can say . Everything was so good from the Enchiladas , the Barbocoa and menudo 💯is a must everytime , carne guisada is so soft and tender . Tea and fountain drinks are on point . All breakfast plates are bomb . Tortillas homemade the best .Definitely a must to try when in San Antonio
The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server Ann Marie checked on us to ensure we had all we needed and wanted. The food was delicious as always! The menudo was soooo good and i' m super picky.
went in just for the Enchiladas. and they are amazingly cheesy and the taste was spot on. I hardly eat rice or beans but this time i cleaned my plate. also tried the chalupa it was also spot on.
I had to try this hidden hole in the wall to see what the hype was all about. First, it is very hidden, so keep an eye out for the name on the front door as you slowly drive through the small strip. As you walk in, there are so many photos of musicians and bands to look at. Kinda gives you a historical vibe of past and present. It is a small place and very clean. For an old building, the bathroom was clean and did not smell. Now to the food. I ordered the Javi special because no matter where I've eaten, I can never find carne guisada enchiladas, and this was the first place I'VE been to that has it. Let's just say I don't remember when I started or finished eating, it was that good! The rice was perfect and the beans not greasy. I did asked to have my tortillas alittle toasted but otherwise, everything was delicious. My husband had the chorizo and egg plate, and he said it tasted very good. The staff was very attentive and made sure everyone in the restaurant had what they needed. I will be back to try out other plates. Until then, if you're in the area, try this place out, and as always, you decide. Enjoy!
Unfortunately, not realizing it was almost closing time. But we were greeted with a warm welcome and not hurried to place our order. The food (menudo) was delicious, great taste just the right amount of spicyness, well portion of tripe and hominy. Waiteresses were very hospitable. Will be going back because I liked the atmosphere and all the wall-to-wall photos, plus I wanted to try the rest of their menu items. Came to find out this restaurant has been there 40+ years, that means a lot for an establishment.
Saw the carne guisada on TikTok. But it looked better on video. I got carne guisada enchiladas. Those had a great taste. The quesadilla de fajita was really good and the cheese enchiladas were loaded with cheese.
Loved the Restaurant Vibe🎶🎼🎵 real clean Restaurant. Loved the Tejano music in the background. Very Delicious Tea👍Red Salsa was Delicious. Even though I ordered the Asada à la Mexicana plate they gave me meat with grilled onions👎 I was going to return this plate but I decided to gave it a try. To my Surprise the meat had a very good taste . Enchilada were OK , Rice was delicious. Beans were OK. Tortillas were OK. Even though I expected more taste from this restaurant, I will come back and try a different plate next time.
First location is :/ … Service: older man only came by to take our order and to serve us. I had the Javi Special I only liked the guisada, tortillas, rice and bean trash . Last pic shows how I left my plate. My son had Mexican plate with chicken he didn’t like it either. Horrible place Tik Tok got me!
First I want to say that the food was delicious. We did have lunch there. Be eat that for a party of 5 or more a 20% gratuity is automatically applied to your bill. I wouldn’t have a problem with it if my server came back and checked on us. We constantly had to ask got someone to call her. She never came by to check on us. All refills had to be requested and we had to constantly remind her of things that we needed like a cup of ice for a can of soda and silverware to eat our food. But what got me the most was the open salsa containers in the room while children played in there. Spouses hung out with the kids in the same room where are food was coming through, drinks were being served from and other items. There were young kids, no hair nets food was exitosa ave were the coffee and cups. As good as the food was we will not be returning due to exposure to food and sanitation. But I would like to the three cooks for a delicious meal.
