Yusuke is a pioneer of Japanese food and tradition. I love the atmosphere, it’s Syracuse’s own corner of Japan with an authentic sushi master. It was a privilege to get to hear some of his story.
Seriously the best sushi you will eat in the 315 area. The chef is a master at what he does and the products served are the absolute most fresh youll find. 5stars, going tonight again :)
We have lived in Fayetteville for 7 years now and have not found a better restaurant or had more consistently superb food than at Kyoko, we can't recommended highly enough if I could give it 50 stars I would and don't forget when you're there to try the lemongrass soup. It's exquisite.
Olivia was a sweetie and the food was *AMAZING* on a cold Sunday evening. A definite recommend for excellent sushi and Japanese cuisine.
Went After a recommendation from a colleague. It's been a year in the attempt to finally sit down and eat here. Due to COVID-19. This is a quaint small Japanese styled seating area. It's small but comfortable. There is a bar with a sushi 🍣 chef in the back. The server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. For apps I had the firecracker shrimp witch was spicy and flavorful. The Sushi rice was good but not as creamy as my favorite sushi restaurant that closed 4 years ago. (Chasing the dragon). Ingredients were fresh and prepared perfectly. I had the beef bento 🍱, very delicious and fulfilling. It is moderately priced but not cheap.
Two years later and I have to update my review from, "Best sushi around" to something more deserving since they still consistently have the best sushi for years now. They got a little backed up with takeout orders but sent us an appetizer. We had the pork belly roll which was absolutely out of this world delicious! I always order the shumai, but the pork belly roll was so good, it may become my new go-to app. Dynamite hand roll, Scallop hand roll, and the volcano roll were all spectacular! We also ordered the sashimi deluxe dinner, but I'd skip it next time for more individual sushi/sashimi orders. Very friendly waiting staff, and an overall great date night date.
By far my favorite sushi restaurant. Sushi is fresh and delicious. The venue is comfortable and welcoming. I always get the chef choice sushi platter and am never disappointed. The saki is perfectly warmed and comes in two sizes. We celebrate birthdays and other special occasions here.
Been going here for years and best sushi I've ever had. Half off on Wednesday is a pretty good deal! Sometimes the wait is long because it's made to order but it's worth it! Staff is also very nice and accommodating
The owner is behind the Sushi counter and he is personally invested in you having an amazing experience! If you haven't been, WHY???? Go eat and enjoy great food! Ask the owner to make your culinary experience memorable! Order Sake sit back and indulge your foodie senses!!!
The food was good but felt rushed when trying to look to the menu. I barely got a chance to open it when I got asked to order other than that. Everything was great. Came back to try the sushi it was really good waitress was friendly
Kyoko’s is a splendid treat of Japanese cuisine. Don’t let the humble dining room fool you. The food is thoughtfully prepared with fresh meats and vegetables. Our evening’s appetizers of Edisu Salad and the Sushi platter were full flavored and too pretty to eat. The Bento Special platter and Katsu Don were amazing and we can’t wait to be treated with the wonderful sauces and flavors again soon. We never wanted the meal to end.
We ordered their bento deluxe and their salads salmon and seafood salads. Their customer service was very accommodating and welcoming, she did everything a customer can ask for. Now, with their food, I don’t know what else to say but it’s perfection. If you’re a sushi/sashimi lover, you have to try this place.
Having just moved to the area, we decided to try their fare, and after our meal, I felt compelled to write my experience. The food was prepared exactly to order, delicious, beautifully arranged, and prompt. We tried some options available at other restaurants as well as some items wholly unique to Kyoko. We were left incredibly impressed and very full. Every item was flavorful, well prepared, and surprised me with it's quality. A vast array of options available in a restaurant can sometimes indicate less care given to individual items, but this was absolutely not the case. We ordered 8 items to share and every single item was wonderful. The greatest treat of all was our hostess Alisha. There are many factors that make a dining experience enjoyable, and to say that food alone (tasty as it was) is solely important would be an understatement. Service goes a long way to making diners feel comfortable, relaxed, and ready to place their faith in the kitchen behind closed doors. Alisha is a rare treat in her line of work, and through her prompt service, kind demeanor, and care for our experience has set a new standard in the industry and deserves to know that. So thank you Alisha, and to our talented chefs, we will most certainly be back.
Authentic Japanese Sushi house. Very tasty and quiet atmosphere. Update: Just had their Udon the other night and it was amazing. Such good food.
🤤 My child was slightly intimidated by her sashimi order, it was all delicious!
Absolutely fantastic! Wait staff is great, atmosphere is great, would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area! I had the miso ramen special and my friend got the bento special. It was around $50 for both. I love the appetizers here.
I’m not one to write reviews but this place hands down is amazing! Not only the service but the food was insanely good.

I've been getting sushi here for over 20 years. Nice, small, quiet restaurant. I doubt you'll find better, fresher sushi anywhere. Sit at the counter and watch it being made. Highly recommended.

My favorite sushi place. They have dome the better tasting sushi in Syracuse. However waiting times seems to be increasing everything I go or orders are getting messed up. Only one sushi chef up front.
Lady was really nice, though they were out of the broth for the Ramen bowl I wanted. It's small and cozy, and nothing too fancy. My mom really enjoyed her bento box, and we plan on returning to eat more sushi.
The atmosphere was nicely understated. Service was good, but I would have preferred the server wear a mask (I understand the mask mandate is somewhat frivolous in restaurant settings, but blatant avoidance of the rules could translate in other areas like hygiene/cleanliness). All that said, the food shined; the cuts of fish on the sushi were fresh and tender, and everything was well-prepared.
The Sushi is crafted very well. The Quality is better than average, and better than what you would expect for Central NY. We have eaten here many times and have had a consistent dining experience. The only improvement to be made is the speed of service. When you dine just anticipate hanging out for a bit while your food is prepared. Other than that, great place to get sushi.
I was fully expecting to be disappointed, but I wasn't. The Ramen I ordered was decent and among the best in central NY. The broth isn't as thick and creamy as I would prefer but it is well balanced. The egg, noodle and hijiki (could also be woodear) are all done well. The pork belly that is supposed to be tender is too dry though. Was told no dine-in is allowed at this time, but all the tables were set.
The food here is phenomenal, but almost every single dish has gluten in it - either the sauces, crumbles, marinade, panko, tempura. The menu is amazing and everything looks delicious, but if you're gluten free, there are only a few options. On the plus side, those items are great! I like the agadashi tofu, seaweed salad, and some of the simpler / veg rolls with gluten free soy sauce. It's one of our favorite places in town; I just wish it had more options for me
Nice Japanese restaurant. Edamame was too soft. Good portions. Friendly service.
At first impression, I thought my wife and I would regret going to dinner here. The atmosphere and service was off putting at first. As the meal went on, the server warmed up to us and was actually very good. The food was delicious and the sushi was some of the best I've had anywhere in upstate/central NY. The sushi was meticulously curated and served the second it was made. I would highly recommend eating here for specialty sushi rolls.

We went on a Friday night around 6:00 pm and the restaurant was not busy. We tried to order a couple of dishes but they ran out of crab. They also did not have Nutella for certain desserts. The food was OK and a little pricey for the quality and quantity received. With all the sushi places around, I was surprised by these miscues and prices.
I liked the sushi, it was even better because I had a Groupon that helped discount the price. The rolls were a good size so I was pleased with the value. I really just wish they had more rolls on the menu. They did not have a very big selection and that part was disappointing especially because I couldn't find a menu online before visiting. They do serve wine but they do not have a bar in the restaurant.
The food was really good. The dinosaur roll (pictured on right on the plate away from me) exceeded any and all expectations I had. My own sushi was very enjoyable. Maybe a little too much rice, but no complaints here. The service though was fairly lousy. My water was empty most of my meal. The server I had ended up yelling at the sushi chef about some new order that came in. That was awkward. The environment was subpar. I don't know. It felt a little too musty and uninviting. The chairs were hard and uncomfortable. The table was flimsy and creaky. If the only thing that matters to you is the food, give it a shot. Otherwise, there are better establishments around.

Passing through from Utica area. Food was okay. The California rolls in my bento box were not freshly made. Rest was good. My girlfriend liked her sushi but I did not find it to be that good. There was a lot of quantity but didn’t seem super quality. Very thick amount of rice and not very crispy like advertised on menu in dinosaur roll. Server was nice and attentive and they served us quickly. Atmosphere was a little odd. Very hole in the wall feeling. Not a bad thing per se but for 30$ per person before tip, I would go elsewhere in the future.
This place was recommended by friend so we decided to try it out. The smell of the place was offputting but we decided to stay to try it out. Our waitress was friendly and prompt, we didnt have to wait long for our drinks or food. The food was ok, we weren't super impressed.
I’m honestly pretty heartbroken that I didn’t like this place because I used to hear such good things about it but I guess it’s gone downhill. My husband and I went here to celebrate buying a house and a couple of other times to get food as takeout. I guess I was pretty persistent at giving them second chances because 3/3 times I’ve ordered the edamame, it’s disgustingly mushy and overcooked. I’ve seen multiple other reviews stating the same, unfortunately. I just don’t get how you can mess up edamame as a Japanese restaurant. That’s just never happened to me at all of the places I’ve ever been to. I do appreciate that they have a wide selection of options, including vegetarian options that I don’t see as an option at other places like a sweet potato/tofu/avocado roll and a tempura broccoli roll. They were pretty yummy, however the brown sauce was too sweet on the broccoli rolls so I’ve opted out of getting that afterwards and they were good. When we ate here, it was relatively pleasant, it was quiet but a little empty inside in terms of atmosphere and ambiance. There wasn’t any music so you were kind of forced to hear other loudly speaking people around. Again, not the worst, just a little odd. I don’t necessarily have any complaints on the service but every time I ask for soy paper, it’s always some kind of ordeal or mystery as to if they have any. They usually do, it’s just weird that they’re never sure if it’s in stock or not as I feel it’s fairly common to get soy paper in a roll. Anyways, I really hope they learn from the feedback and improve. Syracuse seems to be lacking in good sushi and I’d love to have a good consistent restaurant in the area for it.

I ordered a couple of sushi rolls, an appetizer and an entree before the restaurant opened, and upon arrival, walked into a completely empty restaurant. I was given a bag with two takeout containers which was tied shut, and then my card was taken to the back to pay for my order. Then I waited for a few minutes and the server brought my card back and stopped to grab one more bag with yet another takeout container and was sent on my way. When I got home, I cut open the bag to examine everything and realized that I was never given my appetizer. I called and immediately the server admitted that she didn’t give me all my food, but NEVER apologized. She asked me if I was going to drive back to get the missing item or if I wanted a refund on that item. I said that at this point, a refund would be preferable since I was sitting down to eat, and she said “well I just got a table so I’ll do it when I can.” Still no refund…not impressed, AT ALL.
I have been going here for at least a decade. Tonight was the worst experience there. Our server never returned, the one who brought our food never came back with soy sauce for the plate of rolls we ordered or refilled our drinks. The food took a long time and the service was horrible. The sushi is good, but changes need to be made.
Food was not very good and the service was lacking. Staff felt like they did not want to be there and multiple items that came with order were missed.
We came here for a dinner to celebrate a graduation. We called to make a reservation for 7 on a Saturday evening at 6pm. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived but it took about 4-5 minutes for someone to come from the back to greet and seat us. They did have our reserved table ready. We ordered edamame and shrimp dumplings as an appetizer, then 5 different sushi rolls to share amongst the table, a ramen dish, chicken teriyaki and the vegetable & tofu teriyaki. The edamame was far overcooked & mushy. The shrimp dumplings were good. It took a very long time to receive our main courses. The chicken teriyaki came out first, and it took a long time before anything else followed. When it did, four of the five sushi rolls were delivered, but we never saw the fifth one. The ramen was delivered, but not the tofu and vegetable teriyaki. There was virtually no communication from the server, other than dropping things off and leaving. Eventually, a plate of vegetable tempura came out for the person who ordered vegetable tofu teriyaki (me). I reminded the server that I had ordered the vegetable and tofu teriyaki, not the tempura. She turned around and left with the plate of vegetable tempura, saying nothing. She could have apologized that she misunderstood, she could have left the vegetable tempura, so there was something to eat while awaiting the correct meal to be remade, but she did not. After another half an hour, I asked the server if my vegetable tofu teriyaki was coming, and she replied that yes, it was coming right up. I then asked her to simply box it up to go, as everyone else was finished with their meal. We also inquired about the missing sushi roll, and after telling us the chef was working on it right now, she then told us that he would work on it after he finished a few other orders. At that point, we simply asked her to cancel it. I will say that I felt badly for her, and for the sushi chef as they were very obviously understaffed. She was the only server, he was the only sushi chef. I have no idea how many people were actually working in the back where the food was coming from. I can say this, however: I spent years working in restaurants as a host, server, cook, and manager. I also owned a quick service restaurant for 10 years. The level of concern and customer service was zero. There was no checking back to see how things were. We had to flag her down every time we needed something. There was no apology or accommodation for the fact that one person‘s food never arrived. We would have been happy with some communication and kindness. It was a very disappointing way to spend a graduation celebration. In summary, the sushi was reported as good by the people who had it. The service was awful, the edamame was overcooked and the tofu vegetable teriyaki was soupy and underwhelming (after eating it when we got back home, via the takeout container). I would recommend steering clear of here unless you have a lot of time and patience, and low expectations. Our entire meal from start to finish took 2.5 hours - for a table that had the equivalent of one meal per person, three starters, 2 glasses of wine and hot tea between seven people. We were in no way demanding or had unrealistic expectations. As a former restaurant employee and owner, this is an issue of in attentive ownership and under staffing to save money. Very disappointing.
This use to be my favorite place for sushi. Unfortunately the service and food went downhill. My last visit which was over two years ago was disappointing. I decided to give them another try hoping for the best. I was going to dine in but as soon as I entered, I couldn’t handle the odor of a mop that smelled liked it was used in the restroom and then used to mop the main floor. So I ordered takeout. The sushi in the counter didn’t look unappealing so I ordered just a few varieties plus a tempura appetizer. When I got home, they got one of the sushi incorrect, the scallop was mushy and the tempura appetizer was under par. The batter was thick and the dipping sauce tasted like some watery sauce. I was really hoping for the best but unfortunately the quality wasn’t good. I’m afraid this was the last time for me.

I waited 30 minutes for water. I was very exited to go here for dinner for the first time. The service was incredibly slow. I understand that they were short staffed but I did not appreciate seeing the waitress on her phone while I was sitting at a table with no drink, appetizer, or food. Quite an upsetting experience and the food was undercooked
9/7/19 - Went with family for dinner. Came in around 7:15pm. Was greeted and seated...after that for the next 20-25 mins or so we were still waiting...we weren't even served water while we we waited. There wasn't that many people either. There was 1 party of 4, 1 party of 3, 2 or 3 people at the sushi bar, and a table of 2 towards the back. After we were seated, we never saw our server again...she didn't even bring us water or at least ask us what we wanted to for drink. We decided to leave because we were hungry and it was taking WAY TOO LONG and it didn't seem like we were going to get any attention any time soon. Pretty disappointing...
I’m so done with this place. They are so rude and unprofessional…especially one of the older female servers. I had her as a server one night and she was incredibly rude but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and just figured she must have been having a bad day. Just called a little bit ago to asked how long it would take for an order to be done and she was SO rude…again! Obviously she just has no people skills!! My family and I spend at least $50 a week at this place but they will no longer be getting our business!
I would give this a zero if it were possible. Arrived a few minutes past 6:00 pm. Seated immediately, but waited 10 minutes to place a drink order, waited another 15 minutes for the waitress to come back with two beers at which time she took our order for appetizer and entree. At 7:20 pm the waitress brought the wrong order to our table. At that point I asked for a bill for the two beers and left. Simply bringing the food to the table is a really low bar for a restaurant, and this place was not able to do that. Don't bother coming here.
Don’t trust their adverted closing times and don’t expect good service… apparently they decide when to close on a whim, and are extremely brazen with customers. We arrived on a Wednesday evening just shortly after 8pm, closing time advertised on Google as 9 and confirmed by a sign in the restaurant. We waited about 5 minutes at the front of the restaurant, and finally walked to the back area to call out for someone. At this point it was 8:12 and we were told they are closing at 8:30. We were also informed takeout was our only option and that they would not seat us. If you are going to post on Google and in your restaurant that you are open until 9pm, it is a good practice to indeed stay open until then, barring extreme weather or emergencies. The staff were extremely rude about it and with only 2 customers in the restaurant, I guess they like to turn away business regularly. If this is how you operate, it’s not a wonder your restaurant was empty. We were excited to try for the first time after hearing such great things, but we will not be choosing to give them our business in the future. We did end up walking around the corner to Avicolli’s and had a WONDERFUL meal with exceptional service.
Convinced a friend to try Sushi for the first time. Pretty lady sat us down near the window in the front. She never came back. We watched as others were taken care of. Happy people at the sushi bar with, I believe, the owner. We waited 20 minutes and left. So much for showing off the Dinosaur roll.
Awful experience! Please stay away from this place. Slow and very poor service. We returned one of our plates cause the chicken wasn’t in good condition (smelled). We told the waitress and she apologized and tried to get the owner. Listen to this, the manager/owner claimed his chicken was ok and refused to come to our table. She was nice to give us some discounts, then the owner came over and apologized as well. Anyways, we barely eat. We didn’t take any leftovers. Other customers seemed to having a similar issue as well. Sorry, but this place needs so much improvement in pretty much all areas.
Really disappointing. Too bad because the menu looked delicious. The atmosphere was apathetic, like nobody cared. The floor was sticky and the doors to the kitchen, filthy. The waitress seemed disinterested in conversation or even feigning good customer service. I felt bad for her because she seemed unhappy. One of the cooks was in the back packing his cigarettes. I saw while the door was open. Not that it affects the food but it soured the experience a little more. The food was as lackluster as the restaurant, all of it; a true reflection of the atmosphere. I had a cold pork belly slider on cold bread with the scantest slivers of pickle. Had I not pulled it apart because I'm doing the Keto thing, I'd have gotten a one inch sliver (literally) of broken toothpick in my mouth. Very unf**king cool. It almost seemed deliberately placed because it was hidden in the bread. How does that even happen? I was also served wilted lettuce and was shorted one dumpling. I guess they are trying to go out of business. They're well on their way! I will never return here and feel like I totally threw away fourty bucks that I'll never get back. I highly recommend avoiding this restaurant. And I'm complementing it by even calling it a restaurant. It was dead in there. The restaurant around the corner was packed. That was the first red flag. The sticky floor was the next. I haven't even eaten there, but I highly recommend going to the place around the corner instead.
I couldn’t recommend this place with a good conscience. It took only 5 minutes for me to get my miso soup and another 20 before my husband got his dumplings. It then took another 45 minutes after that for me to get my sushi (all vegetarian.) it wasn’t until about 2 minutes later that the waitress told my husband they were out of his protein. Another 30 minutes after that his meal came mushy and cold after I watched the waitress set it down at the wrong table, come back out a minute later, grab the same bowl from the wrong table and come set it in front of my husband (I’m sure I don’t have to remind anyone that we’re in a pandemic and I wouldn’t even be ok with that if we weren’t.) Long story short, we spent about 1.5 hours there for sub par service and food and we didn’t even get to eat any of our food in conjunction.
Although the waitress was really really great, the food sucks! Rice sticky, mushy and over cooked. Ordered 2 sushi rolls, took 35 mins to serve them as an appetizer although the place only had roughly 10 other ppl dining. Entree to follow after another 25 mins and the chicken was processed! Processed chicken! Save your money, I was greatly disappointed
Waited for 1.5 hour to get my food! DO NOT COME if you are starving. The sashimi are not fresh! if you want salmon sashimi, go to Wegmans not here. And they charge a 4% card fee. I would never come back.
See all the tuna color is dark. The worse Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. No fresh food served except the ramen.
It is hard to imagine a worse dining experience. We were seated almost immediately but the server did not come to the table for more than 1/2 hour. We ordered all food selection at that time and waited an hour for food. Did not get our appetizer until after the meals were served. The quality of the food was poor. One order is sushi was incorrect and had to be corrected. We will not return.
