Opinions de China Gourmet Flushing
We made reservations in advance as we were a party of 8 on a Friday night (5pm). Seems early, but the place filled up very quickly! We left it to the elders to order and deal with servers as us kids are not fluent 🙈 we came for the seafood and left very satisfied. We thought everything was prepared well, properly seasoned, and tasted fresh/clean. Sadly no frog legs available, but a reason to come back. Honestly we were mad at ourselves that we didn’t order more because everything was reasonably priced in our opinion (though we didn’t get lobster, crab, or duck). A bit surprised at the negative reviews and grateful we had such a positive experience (otherwise would’ve never heard the end of it from my dad and uncle lol). Clean unisex bathrooms. Even cleaner fish tanks that I hope continues to be properly maintained. Parking is tight but that’s all of Flushing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hong Kong Gourmet 避風塘 – A Hidden Gem Worth Discovering! I recently dined at Hong Kong Gourmet 避風塘, a new Chinese restaurant that just opened three months ago, and I’m already counting down the days until my next visit! This place is an absolute treasure for foodies and anyone craving an authentic, high-quality dining experience. The food here is nothing short of spectacular. Their menu boasts an incredible variety of seafood dishes that I’ve never seen at other Chinese restaurants—think exotic catches prepared with bold, authentic flavors that transport you straight to Hong Kong. From perfectly spiced Typhoon Shelter-style crab to delicate, fresh-off-the-boat fish dishes, every bite was a revelation. The portions are impressively generous, so you’re getting amazing value without sacrificing quality. Beyond the food, the entire experience was top-notch. The dishes arrived impeccably clean, and the restaurant itself is spotless, including the bathrooms, which is always a huge plus. The service was outstanding—our server was attentive, friendly, and happy to explain the unique dishes, making us feel right at home. Despite the restaurant being new, it wasn’t overly busy, which meant a relaxed atmosphere and no wait for a table. Hong Kong Gourmet 避風塘 is a must-visit for anyone who loves Chinese cuisine or wants to try something new and exciting. It’s rare to find a place that nails the food, cleanliness, and service all at once, but this spot does it effortlessly. Do yourself a favor and check it out—you won’t be disappointed!
Best live seafood in Flushing. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone craving an authentic Cantonese meal. Service is also amazing as they let you browse their tanks and pick the fish you want to have. Plates are changed regularly without asking. Best part is the convenient location and parking lot in the back. Will be back to try their special Hong Kong BBQ dishes and try to reserve a room with them in advance.
Big portions, great wok flavor, and straightforward Hong Kong-style comfort food. The beef short ribs and crispy fried rice are must-orders. Very fair prices for Flushing. Would come back
Absolutely fantastic experience at Hong Kong Gourmet! The freshness of the seafood was immediately apparent—from the perfectly steamed fish with ginger and scallions to the sweet, succulent fried lobster. Every dish was a harmony of authentic Cantonese flavors, expertly balanced and never overly seasoned. The service was attentive and warm! Staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and made great recommendations. The ambiance felt lively yet comfortable, perfect for a family gathering or a casual dinner with friends. It’s clear that this place takes pride in both the quality of its ingredients and the traditions behind each dish. I’ll definitely be coming back—and bringing more people with me next time!
Spotted the new opening signs and decided to give this place a try. The atmosphere is bright, clean, and welcoming, with large private rooms that are perfect for group gatherings. We tried a few of their recommended dishes, and everything was delicious — especially the specialty crab, black bean clams, and beef rib. The fried rice was a standout too, with these crispy bits in every bite that added great texture. I love that it’s tucked away from the hustle of Main Street but still really convenient, just off Northern Boulevard. Plus, there’s a small parking lot in the back. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m craving some yummy Canto food!
My dining experience at Hong Kong Gourmet, located at 144-20 Northern Blvd in Flushing Queens, was exceptional. The restaurant offers authentic Cantonese cuisine with superb food and impeccable service. I was particularly impressed with the signature dish, Crispy Roasted Pig Stuffed with Glutinous Rice. The crispy, golden skin, tender, juicy meat, and fragrant glutinous rice infused with the savory essence of the roasted pig create a harmonious blend of flavors in each bite. The seafood was also exceptional, featuring umami flavors, freshness, and high quality. The dinner at Hong Kong Gourmet was truly unforgettable. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure that our evening was not just a meal but a memorable experience. The dining experience at Hong Kong Gourmet surpasses five stars. If I had the opportunity, I would rate it six stars
I recently had dinner at Hong Kong Gourmet, and it completely exceeded my expectations. From the friendly staff to the cozy, stylish interior, everything about this place made me feel welcome. The highlight of the meal was the crab dish —fresh, sweet, and perfectly cooked. You can really tell they use high-quality seafood and prepare it with care and tradition. The service was prompt and genuinely friendly, and the staff were happy to make suggestions on what to order. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates authentic Chinese food done right!
Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! The shrimp were fresh and naturally sweet, arranged with great care. The fried rice was aromatic, with each grain perfectly separated. The stir-fried beef was tender and flavorful, balanced nicely with crisp vegetables. Comfortable atmosphere and attentive service — a delightful experience all around. Would definitely come back again!
鑊氣 is good. Authentic Cantonese food. Strong taste. Service is good. Friendly staff. Must have change our plates like 5x in a short hour span. Parking is available from the side of the building. Probably have like 15 spots or so. Price I believe is on the higher side but the portion is comparable. Place is clean
I had the pleasure of dining at Hong Kong Gourmet, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The beef chow fun and BBQ Beef ribs are to die for! The place gets really busy but you can see the employees hard at work and giving their best to be attentive as possible. If you’re looking for authentic Cantonese and Hong Kong style BBQ, this might have to be your go to!

Was allured by the giant crab outside the restaurant, but never had the chance to try it until recently. Hong Kong Gourmet is a Cantonese restaurant along Northern Blvd, just past Parsons Blvd. Unlike other Cantonese restaurants, I do not believe that you can order dim sum here, it is just lunch and dinner. The food here is flavorful and pretty standard for a Cantonese restaurant. The beef is tender, not too chewy. The vegetables and stir fried are well seasoned and flavorful. The seafood is soft and juicy, without any overwhelming flavor from the sauces. My only real complaint is the timing of the dishes. Majority of the time, the dishes come out in a timely manner. However, once or twice, there will be a significant delay with a dish. It could be that that dish takes longer than others, but I do not think that is the case.
Cantonese restaurants are more rare now that NYC has tons more diversity than ever. Just a sampling of today's Chinese cuisine includes, hotpot chices galore, Din Tai Fung, sour veggie fish casseroles, Szechuan, wonton shops, lamb specialist, hand pulled noodles, Xian foods, Beijing duck specialists, dim sum all day, pastry shops and this is just a small sampling of only "chinese" foods. Growing up in NYC in the 70's, 80's and 90's, Cantonese was pretty mainstream for chinese food. This place replicates a lot of the original Hong Kong Cantonese foods folks grew up eating. Roast duck, house special crystal fried rice, steamed giant oysters in garlic with vermicelli, Peking pork chops, cumin lamb chop (we didn't have this growing up) stir fried mustard greens, lamb casserole with dried bean curd. All super fresh, well flavored, not overly salty, authentic for Guangzhou folks. $300 for five people, fair, today's prices. Cramped parking lot, but happy to have parking nonetheless, be prepared to wait and please be nice to the servers, they are covering a lot of tables each. Definitely worth a try if authentic Cantonese is what you're looking for. Brightly lit, loud, just like a cantonese restaurant.
The food was actually delicious 😋 and the service was great. But the place might be a bt crowded for each table if u order a lot. Other than that, I would recommend!!! Edit: I came here the second time and it was really crowded for a Sunday. We came a bit early so luckily we did that. If I didn’t see wrong, I think they added more tables so it’s even more crowded. Since they were rushing with all the customers, I felt like they kinda rushed the food too but it’s ok still.
Solid new Cantonese spot just outside downtown Flushing. Authentic flavors and very attentive service, though dishes were inconsistent. Seafood and vegetables were excellent, but lamb was rather dry, and pork was not the most tender. Also, parking can be a massive issue during peak hours; the lot is tiny and fits only 10 or so cars, and Northern Blvd can be rather annoying to find street parking. Had to circle for half an hour on a Friday evening before finally finding a spot

I ordered crispy roast pork, really good and doesn’t have overwhelming smell/taste of spice which I am glad. House special fried rice is good too, very distinct dried fish taste. The food came out fast than I expected but my concern is, the server who receives order at the front lacks training for customer service. I was first time customer and not familiar with ordering process, I politely ask if I can pay early and I received a very strong and rude tone. The food I ordered was good but the experience I got will not make me go back again.

Noisy, crowded, and slow service. Some things ordered had to be asked after multiple times. And you take a chance if you order sweet and sour pork, as it's breaded and has small bones in every bite. I won't return.

The service was not that good. We had 6 people and they gave us a 4 people table. We had reservations and said the 7-8 people table are reserved. We got there 5:30 and the reservation was at 7:30. The lady had a nasty look. But they let 3 people sit at a 8 people table. What the hell!? Sat down for 15 mins and no tea or menu. Purposely waited to see how long I need to wait before asking . The food was overall salty and the presentation wasn’t that appealing. Comparing to other Hk style restaurants we went to in queens . The lamb chop was more like water boiled and pan fried a little bit. You can tell from the meat . The pork roll with rice was the only decent looking one. Will not come back again . As a hker and trying lots of Hk restaurants in queens, this is will be off my list and not recommending people to come .
They definitely change their chef, very disappointed! Their food was awesome last week! I bring my parents here today ! Nothing taste the same !

Order pork pan fried noodles for take out. An authentic Cantonese pan fried noodles is suppose to have thick gravy/sauce coating the noodles and biding all the ingredients together. The gravy they did was so watery that it is like as I ordered a noodle soup. I have to reheat the gravy with cornstarch to make it gooey. Also there were little pork. Not much flavor only sweetness, do not recommend if you have diabetes. Not worth the $20.00 I paid
