A Great Notion

This is by far the most wonderful kareoke bar I have been too. They make you feel at home when you are there and everyone around makes you feel welcome.

Bartenders are awesome!! Karaoke is always a blast!! Don't forget to draw a chip after you sing!

I only gon3d 2o laundrymat accross. People come out happy everytime im washing clothes. Im mexican, i only see white, American folks. Would i be allowed to go and karaoke with them. Them country songs ya'll haha

no food here, but occasionally have cookouts on Sundays. Kareoke Thursday thru Sunday. Victor is a great KJ, and many talented singers too.

So fun went for a friend's birthday. Karaoke started around 9:30 and was great fun! Whole bar got in on it. Darts, drinks, and singing. Went from 8:30 to 1:30 and the time flew by.

First timer. Great setup for karaoke, thank you Victor. Very friendly people. Ed the bartender is great. It's a bit of a dive bar but I like dive bars. I will be going again!

Staying over on business with time to kill, looked up "dive bars near me." Why? Because I am partial to local home hospitality with a blue collar crowd and low-lit atmosphere. I don't need frills and loud music. I need a bunch of regulars who see a new face as a "novelty." Bar staff was welcoming and inviting, acknowledged me right away which I love. I am a young looking, heavily tattooed man who often gets ignored. I crave a bar that initiates conversation...this place was no disappointment. I was in stitches 10 minutes here. Since I am relocating here...may have just found my new spot. It has that low-key atmosphere I crave after a long day's work, and karaoke on weekends to turn up.

A Great Notion is one of those local pubs that has good cold beer, cocktails made right, good service, pool and darts.

I used to think that this is a great place to go hang out and throw darts with old friends. Now that there is a smoking ban in Tarrant County I will probably never visit again as I like to have a cigarette while I'm throwing darts or playing pool with my friends. The staff here is great and the prices are as well. Five stars always

No smoking or vaping; must go outside to smoke or vape! I am a non-smoker, so I love this! The bartenders do an awesome job, and they are all friendly! Karaoke is awesome, too. The KJ will put you on a list so you will know when it's your turn.

Had a fantastic time with my friends and singing my favorite karaoke songs. The DJ, Shannon is awesome and does a terrific job hosting the karaoke and she has a great voice. Will definitely go back!

Aside from the fantastic service this place is a great karaoke spot! Thursdays and Sundays, in my experience, have been more laid back via the karaoke scene. Friday & Saturday nights bring in diverse crowds & there's always darts and pool for entertainment!

Absolutely love this place. Bar staff is wonderful and friendly, ownership is almost like family, karaoke Thursday-sunday, and pool table and dart boards for other stuff to do. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, friendly bar that isn't overrun by loud, sloppy college students. Favorite bar in fort worth.

IF someone is a GREEDY S.O.B., he/she WILL sue that place 'cause the stairs are so Horribly made. I DoN'T want this place to get sued 'cause the Owners, the employees, the atmosphere And the KJ (Victor) are ALL Delightful! I went back to do some Karaoke 🎤 🎶 on Oct. 31st 🧙‍♀️ 🦇 🙀 👻 🎃 and it was a FUN time; Thanks to the KJ and to A Great Notion (Only reason why i hadn't returned is 'cause i Hate sitting by myself but i've got NO choice 'cause my man Hates to sing! 😲 WHY!?). Very very well thought out place - with a dying downtown night-life they pigeoned holed themselves with a rather restrictive dress code and formal-occasion-vibe. This contradicts their “thing”: an 80s kareoke bar downtown. I arrived (as a bald man) and was told to “check my hat.” I’m a bit naked without it and had to turn them down for a night of fun. The atmosphere. The building. The people all seemed wonderful though. Would surely be a great idea for a party. Just heads-up on the dress code unless you rock a cowboy hat while not riding a horse or a (tacky) fedora.

I am a fan of hole in the wall bars and even though this hidden gem is a fairly good size, it definitely has that vibe, when I have been there. A good friend of mine frequents here and I met her one evening. It was pretty quiet at the time but, i liked the set up, they also have pool tables, the service was good as well. I will definitely keep coming back.

The Notion is a club that I basically grew up in. It is a place where I feel safe. The drinks are reasonable and the owner is a good friend. The clientele is a group of good people. I can go in pretty much at any given time and see a person I know that I call friend.

Hadn't been in 25 years. Seems like nothing changed. Karaoke was mediocre at best. I was hoping for better.

Victor was running Karaoke. He told me he had over 5000 song titles available giving the singer a wide variety of titles to choose. The bartender's Ed and Monica make a mean cocktail. One gets their money's worth The crowd is a nice assortment of neighborhood regulars and those of us who only come in a couple of times a month. There's also a good mix of age ranges, so there's usually someone to have a friendly chat with. And the atmosphere is friendly, casual totally laid back. A couple of ladies can have a highball, sing a song, or two and not have to worry about being disrespected or harassed by unwelcomed, unwanted, boreish male attention. It's a good fit.

Bar tenders were awesome, pool table was average. The fact tha management lets the supposed Air Force bouncer let his family try to execute typicall bar table hustles on new customers , and then ban new customers when "bouncies" "family" gets beat and called out...trash. should they get better "control" staff...awesome place. Originally a higher rating but a long time female bar tender with bad service and a worse attitude apparently took offense to something I said. Ed is great though, he does his job well. However, I won't be frequenting this establishment that is just across the street from me unless my girl wants karaoke.

Havent been here in several years; we chose tonight to venture out. We come for the karaoke, but tonight the tracks seemed waay off - every song my husband sang was too slow for him to sing, & I know my karaoke - 18 yrs an avid listener. The hostess should have adjusted it properly - not too thrilled

The city of Fort Worth recently passed the ban on all cigarette smoking in all places. Actually, they may still allow it and gentleman strip clubs, which I suppose means that anyone who wants to smoke a cigarette, sip on a drink,and sit indoors is going to wind up going to sleazy strip clubs. Way To Go Fort Worth! Anyway, this place is only alive because you can smoke inside. The whole place is dark, grimy, dirty, and falling apart. The tables are wobbly, the chairs in stools are ripped, there's a couple of pool tables, and attempted a jukebox, and all the usual sleazy stuff. The thing that is said to me, is that you can see where this place once had great charm. But like an aging Starlet fading from her prime, this place is not going to last much longer when the smoking ban goes into effect.

I share the same experience with Claudia G. My 1st time there (Sunday after 8pm) and bartender was rude, ignored me, and attended only her regulars! Karoke/Shannon the KJ and newcomer KJ Chance were Awesome!

The bar was under staffed and rude. The crowd isn't very friendly either. I don't know if we went on a bad day or what, but we got dirty looks from everyone and got ignored by the lady behind the bar. It seemed like she was attending to her usuals and ignoring everyone else. Gave two stars because the DJ doing the karaoke did an awesome job at getting the crowd hyped up.

The only reason why I gave this place 2 stars was because of the dj and some nice people I met briefly... but this place refused to serve me when I wasn't even drunk... first they thought it was because I was under age, then they said it was because of how I was walking, but I just had a knee surgery. I showed them my brace, then they said I was trying to pick an argument and kicked us out. My friend was there and witnessed everything..I just found it funny how the only black chick gets pressured into proving her sobriety

Used to be great. I grew up in that bar. Sounds bad i know but i would go there on the weekends when i stayed with my dad. At the time General dynamics was booming. My dad was with the ACOE so all the federal workers met there. There were live bands a dance floor and a game room. Plus bar food. Now after the new owners its all gone. Its now hood rats and a few people living in yesterday. I hate to see it this way.

Worst place in Fort Worth to go to period. The Buster Brown looking Karaoke DJ is a major joke. He caters to regulars and ignores newcomers. I have never felt out of place at a bar in my life. Highly unrecommended. Don't waste your time and money at this place.

If you come here for karaoke and don't"pay to play", then don't bother. Find another karaoke spot. The chick they have doing karaoke requires tips to make sure you get to sing. Otherwise, it's excuse after excuse to be able to sing.

Can’t even express how disappointing this place is. It filled my heart with sadness. The Gentleman who does karaoke is the best one there by far. I was kicked out tonight when I asked for a drink. A bartender named ED asked me to leave if I was going to harass anyone. He didn’t like the fact that I offered to call the law enforcement because he can’t do his job. Since when is coughing in your shirt harassment, and looking at someone vaping in the bar and nothing being said to the one trying to kill others. If one wants to smoke; that’s your business; but don’t try to kill me too. I have had a very bad cough ever since and my asthma has started acting up. I have been in this bar several times as I do my laundry there. My life has been threatened more than once; and I do not carry any weapons.

I live right beside this bar, so my boyfriend and I will grab a couple drinks from here every now and then. Every time we visit, the bartenders are so rude to us for no reason. We went last night to have a few cocktails for his birthday and the bartender became rude with us when I asked her to make us cocktails with peach vodka. And the regulars that come here aren’t very welcoming either. Yes, we are younger but we never cause a scene wherever we go so we shouldn’t be talked down to. Overall, this should be a fun and welcoming place, but all we ever experience are rude, unwelcoming staff and visitors. I would rather walk two miles to the next bar than come to this one again. I suggest the same for you!

Arrived around 9:30-10 on 12/06/2018 and felt like we walked into someones house and interrupted the party. Got stares from most of the folks sitting around the bar, found a table and took a seat... waited a couple of minutes and decided I would walk up to the bar for quicker service to get us a drink... after a few more minutes of being ignored I waived to the better half to come on and we left. Not sure how places like this stay in business!

"A Great Nation is still a misconception" as the sign out front states "Restaurant and Pub" although they are no where near being a restaurant. My first visit to the "A Great Nation was not a favorable one, after my review the owner reached out and asked that I return and give them a second look. So out of fairness I gave them a second look, there's a reason they say "You never get a second chance to make a first good impression" I again arrived unannounced of my visit, upon entering no one at the bar greeted me. i sat at the bar and ordered a drink and attempted to take in the atmosphere, the karaoke was to say the least goes to prove the point that no matter how much alcohol you consume does not a good singer you become, nor makes it any easier to listen to. They do have several dartboards but that in itself does not classify it as a "pub" the pool table isn't really big enough to be called a pool table as I have seen bumper pool tables that are twice the size of this one. With that being said let's move into the bar staff they are not attentive to the bar patrons upon finishing my drink the blonde woman walked past numerous times without checking to see if I needed anything, rather she was too busy hanging out at the end of the bar carrying on a conversation with a couple of ladies seated at the bar. After a good fifteen minutes did the male bartender stop and asked if I needed another drink. So as their website states "Fast service" it falls way below that mark. It is this reviewers opinion that this bar is a far cry from being a "Pub" or a "Restaurant" as advertised. It will do to facilitate the locals that live nearby but that is being gracious to say the least. On a scale of 1-10 I would reluctantly give it a 1. If your looking for a less than mediocre bar to just get a drink then this would be it. But that would be all, you would be better off finding someplace that values you as a customer rather that just a source of money.

Service was horrible tonight! Coming back hm, and use to my good bars! First time I have ever laided foot in there, and felt uncomfortable! Completely sober walking in... Bar tender was kind of rude... ONLY ppl I saw getting served drinks, was the drunk women sitting beside us! All in all, I WILL NOT GO BACK! My friend went ip to the bartender and let her know she thinks he needs to leave because he was starting to come on too aggressive. The bartender then said “Well he is my FRIEND so I know he has good intentions. He is fine, I think you need to leave” again this is after we have only had ONE drink. We left no tip, payed our tab and will never be coming back. That is NOT how a bartender is supposed to act. Do your JOB and just because someone is your “friend” doesn’t mean you can over serve them and excuse their behavior.

Bar tenders amazing and friendly. But if you’ve ever been to a bar where it feels like it’s run by the same people that come there every night….this is it. Gave it a shot cause I had the urge to sing some tunes, and if it wasn’t death metal, screeching rock, or 90s Creed (which I love), you’ll get looked at like an unwanted nuisance. Have fun!

Service was horrible tonight! Coming back hm, and use to my good bars! First time I have ever laided foot in there, and felt uncomfortable! Completely sober walking in... Bar tender was kind of rude... ONLY ppl I saw getting served drinks, was the drunk women sitting beside us! All in all, I WILL NOT GO BACK! I have NEVER felt so unwelcome in ANY bar for the 1st time!!!
