Opinions de Eel River Brewing Company Fortuna
I can't speak to the food since I was only there for the beer. Eel River Brewing makes one of my favorite Amber Ales. As someone who works in agriculture, I appreciate their commitment to organic brewing. While the Certified Organic label has lost some of its credibility, it’s still a step closer to regenerative practices than conventional agriculture, which makes me appreciate it even more. The bartender was fantastic—kind, friendly, and welcoming. The atmosphere reminded my wife and me of the place where we first met in Tahoe City, back when we both worked there before it sadly shut down due to partnership issues. It was a nostalgic experience for us. This was my second visit, and once again, it was a great experience.
Our family was camping at Humbolt-Burlington and we stopped here for some food. Our servers were very attentive, the food was good and we really enjoyed the beer! The menu had plenty of options so we all had something we enjoyed. We all loved the wings!
Super-duper pulled pork sandwich, onion rings to die for, killer salads, Iced tea tasted like tea (not watered down), garlic and cheese fries pure AWESOMENESS. ERNIE, our server was totally on it. Refills, service, and conversion were so welcoming. We sat outside in a tented area with our 4 dogs and had the best time. It was such a memorable weekend! It was so darn great, we returned the next day. In this day and age, service has become less and less a priority, sadly. NOT AT EEL RIVER BREWING COMPANY!!! All of the staff said thanks for coming in and loved on our dogs. If you love good food and service, this is it!
Stopped in for a brew only, no food with friends. Had their pilsner as well as amber ale and both were very good. The atmosphere is cozy and very welcoming. This little brewery is a hidden gem so if you’re in Fortuna, CA up in the redwoods area I highly recommend you stop in here .
Fantastic food and spirits. We ordered a flight that gave a good selection of what they have to offer. I guess it was peanut on the floor night, kind of gross stepping in people's spit but we had a good time. We ended up ordering dinner and took two six packs with us back to Idaho.
I stopped by this place and never wanted to leave. The vibe food and brews were proper. True passions here
This place is stunning. They've put a ton of work into making it a haven and they've 100% succeeded. The outside is gorgeous, the lights and the gazebo's are so charming and the cornhole sets add such a nice touch. The service was phenomenal , food was delightful and the beer was on point. 10/10 would recommend and return.
We came to vacation here in Fortuna and found this little gem down the street from our RV park. Great service, great ambiance, amazing food! Also they are dog friendly with outdoor seating. I love that the burgers are made with organic grass fed beef, and would totally recommend “The Mabel” with extra crispy sweet potato fries and a California blonde ale to wash it down .
Wonderful staff, great beer & fantastic food. Can’t wait to go back!
This is and has been for many years a terrific place to dine. They have both indoor and outdoor venues and a large selection of terrific beers and crafted drinks. The food is great too!
All their beers are well crafted. I tried every single one as they offer a flight of all 12 beers on tap. My favorites were the New School Hazy and Raven's Eye Imperial Stout. The Clarity Hard Water was something I've never tried before and worth the trip out there just to check it out. Had to get a couple of 6-packs of that so my friends at home can try it too. Not only is the beer worth coming out for, their smoked meats are phenomenal and also worth a special trip. My daughter says the French Dip was one of the best she's ever had. My pastrami ruben was also great. Just a hint of smoke flavor, no fatty chunks...just thin-sliced, tender pastrami meat. Shout-outs to Ashley and Danielle who were both awesome at taking care of my beer drinking and dining needs.
I am so fortunate that my hotel was down the street. Staff, beautiful, friendly, helpful, and inviting. Beer is fantastic and I'm sure there's at least one you can enjoy. Food was good, and the prices of things seemed reasonable. If beautiful women, friendly smiles, cold beer, and warm food is your thing, look no further. Fortunate Gem!
Awesome experience here. Our server Laura W. Was fantastic. You have a gem of an employee. The Organic Amber Ale was great. Brought home a stout and looking forward to enjoying this one. Glad we made the trip up from Giant Redwoods Rv Park in Myers Flat. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.
Great service, great beer, great food! I had the best fish and chips ever! The drinks were amazing too. Stop by this brewery if you are in the NorCal area!
Ate here 10+ years ago on a PCH bike tour and stopped here again today. Wings were just as tasty then as they were today and the beer was cold. Everything came out fast and fresh. My daughter said the best fried fries she has ever had and we agree. Not greasy but breaded to perfection. Just as amazing as we remember then as we had today. We had the halibut fish and chips today along with the wings and some IPA’s. Service is cheerful and throwing peanuts on the floor is an American right of passage and it exists here. We are from Las Vegas and it is hard to get out to the coast often, but so happy to have made this trip again. We will be back for sure.
Good food, awesome atmosphere, great service. I had the fish-n-chips dinner with the salad, there was enough fish for two people to fill up on! I took a piece home with coleslaw for a sammich lunch and the coleslaw was BOMB! Had the Earth Juice DIPA which was yummy as well. Will definatly go again. THANKS FOR THE MEAL!
Chill place with a great beer garden to enjoy a tasty drink and meal. The smoked tri tip was great. My dining partner had the burger and a stout beer and said both were delicious. We've been here a few other times and had a good experience as well. We've only eaten outside when we have been here.
Eel River Brewing is close to the freeway if you're driving by Fortuna. I have stopped a few times now for food and drinks, and they are always bustling. I really enjoy the 'Mabel' burger, it comes on a pretzel bun, and has bacon, dill pickle, lettuce and a "spicy" peanut butter sauce. If you have never tried peanut butter on a burger, I highly recommend it here or anywhere. There didn't seem to be any spice to the peanut butter, to me, but the burger is A+. Fries are crispy and have panko crumbs fried on. Yum. I have also had the fish and chips, and their Bacon Cajun chicken sandwich as well. Both A+. They have many ciders, seltzers, beers and wines to choose from. They had a bluestone IPA that is brewed with blueberry and plum puree, very tasty. I hope it comes back. Outdoor covered seating available, and they can accommodate larger groups. I will keep coming back for the Thai peanut sauce to dip my fries into.🤤
We went on Father's Day and the place was packed, but the service was still great. The fries were crispy, cheesy and the perfect accompaniment for our flight of Organic Amber, Acai Berry, California Blonde, and Twenty-Two. They were all great- the Twenty-two packs a punch! We also purchased a four pack of the California Blonde to bring home with us.
Stopped in for a Valentine’s Day lunch and got some French dip sando redemption. The last one I had (at another restaraunt) was awful, so it was time to get a good one back on my palate. Smoky, hardly any fat or gristle due to it being a Tri tip cut, and the horse radish was on point. I couldn’t eat all the onion rings that came with my plate because they were massive. My partner got the chicken sando and was definetly enjoying it. He paired his with a frosty IPA and I had the blackberry izu (sp?) hard seltzer. So good. We ate outside in the tent and when they turned on the propane heater it was very pleasant. Even though we moved a few times, inside was too warm, under cover but too close to the music speakers, then into the tent where it was juuuuust right…our waitress found us each time and was attentive, even though we were the only ones out there until the lunch crowd showed up. We have been enjoying this brewery since first visiting in 2018, moved to Humboldt in 2020 and are still fans when we head south on errands.
I have come to Eel River Brewery many times in the past, and I've never been disappointed. But this last time I went it was AMAZING. I had a wonderful lunch with my partner. The food arrived quickly, it was SO tasty. Cooked beautifully. The staff was friendly. The Shirley Temple I ordered was delicious. I left there feeling so so satisfied and impressed by the food and the service. Although I'd always known I'd continue coming back, this last experience made me want to come back way sooner than I had planned! Highly recommend.
We had a fantastic experience at Eel River Brewing! The atmosphere was spot on—relaxed and welcoming—and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. As for the food and drinks, everything was excellent. We highly recommend the fish n chips and the crispy chicken sandwich with salad. To wash it all down, the Amber Ales were great, and the Love Island cocktail and Espresso Martini were perfectly crafted. The pricing was very reasonable for the quality and service we received. If you’re passing through the area, this venue is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!
Excellent everything. Great, deep menut The meals that kitchen tirned out were excellent. A crazy selection of dessert, too! Their Fishwich Special had 2 fish (photo). The Tri-Tip chili had red beans, still it was incredibly tasty, well spiced, and tender. I chickened out on the Reuben, opting for a 'hot pastrami on rye.' Quite well done, perfectly salted. A tad stringy, but I'm sure it was meant to be had with... melted cheese, kraut and 1,000 Island which no doubt would have held it together that extra little bit. Also, excellent beer selection. Friendly and amenable seasoned staff, w plenty of decent parking. Not really much for signage, I must admit, even though it seems to be surrounded by hotels. The grounds just kept going on and on out the back door. A tent here, a stage here there and everywhere. Plenty of private enough spaces. Incredibly well done 'Tavern,' 'Brew Pub,' or 'Taphouse.' Televisions are above wall level, so as not to distract too much. We asked for 2 near us to be tuned to specific NFL games, all it took was a couple of moments to find the channels for us. I just wish there was anything like this near my house.
The food was amazing but the service was even better! I had the Steak special of the day with prawns and got the steak smothered with sauteed onions and mushrooms topped with provolone...it came with veggies and a big baked potato with all the fixings as well as a cup of delicious clam chowder. The server was the sweetest and calmed me down from a harrowing mountain drive in the rain at night. I highly recommend!
Service, food and atmosphere were all fantastic!! The seltzers were so good I picked some up to take back to Washington to share with friends. Great parking for an RV. Easy to get to off 101. Beautiful outdoor patio seating and they let the pup come eat / drink with us. Chris and the other staff were so kind! Would 100% come back here again when I'm back visiting!!
Nice brewery, great selection of craft beer. Flights were 18 selections for $24 to many for me to select from would have preferred a choice of 6 for $12 or such, I had a porter which was very good. Food portions were really nice and the food was fantastic. I had Fish and Chips, delicious! A few choices for the wings, potato skins, pics of the foods we had are attached.
My husband and I stopped by for lunch and have been back a handful of times since. The beers are great the hazy is our favorite at the moment. They have outdoor seating and allow you to bring your dog which is nice. ChrisD was our server and was very attentive and polite. Especially for being seated outside. Marci is the bartender and is very friendly and accommodating. We love their salt and vinegar wings 😋 it's a wet sauce and is covered in it (update it is not a wet sauce anymore. It's a dry rub so we switched to Buffalo wings.) We have also enjoyed the smoked wings, in-house made pork rinds, tri-tip sandwich, clam chowder and onion rings. The only thing we would not order again is the chili. Kitty is a server as well and is very friendly even if you're not one of her tables. We enjoy this place and will continue to come back.
Been here so many times. Mostly sat outside in the covered patio with heaters. I love the Organic IPA and great to get it on draft. We usually order fish and chips to share plus a large salad. Lately my husband has been ordering the Blue Burger and said each time it was cooked really well. Sometimes it can get really busy, good to call ahead. The place gets busy in summer with CalTrans workers and fire teams coming through. Depending on what time you go there could be zero wait time, just like our last visit. If you haven't been and heading north, it really is worth visiting.
I love the food here! There was a spinach dip special appetizer that could’ve been a little more flavorful, but the calamari was great and they have the best beers and hard seltzer around! We also had great service by a guy who was totally On point for excellent customer service. I love coming back to visit and dine here!

Love their burgers and fries! We enjoy sitting outside on a sunny afternoon. The service is sometimes a bit slow, but it's good service!
Stopped by because it was across the parking lot from our hotel. Friendly staff, excellent food, and busy but not overly loud atmosphere. Probably louder with a game on TV, but nice.
Excellent experience. Staff was on point. The “Wolves at the door” beer was top notch. Definitely the best bar food I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend

Price was great, service was excellent, and food was awesome! We had 3 beers and 2 entrees and spent around 60. Very cool atmosphere outside on the patio!

Great atmosphere. Wonderful outside (covered) seating. Dog friendly and food was delicious. Recommend there Thai Peanut Salad
Great Atmosphere & Service! Turkey Sandwich was Great but Ribs were burnt and undercooked?
Food was tasty, the staff were friendly. I liked the tofu salad and the tea selections were great. Yay misty mint tea! I didn't care for the texture of the veggie burger; it was soft and soggy, instead of chewy. I hope they switch. Some of the patrons at the table next to us were drunk and rowdy. They were hassling the waitress and I was about ready to talk to them, but I couldn't hear what they were saying. Just that they were being jerks, e.g. they asked the waitress to do/say something to some Hispanic patrons, but she said "no, that's racist." They ended up leaving and telling her they were leaving a big tip since she put up with them. Other than the crappy customers we were seated next to, the atmosphere was good. We could see the outdoor area and it looked nice. We don't go to Fortuna often, but if our friends wanted to go there we'd make the drive from Eureka.
Definitely a locals place and had such a chill vibe. Plenty of seating inside and outside with activities for everyone. We were disappointed that we couldn't take the dogs to the porch though. The chili was delicious. The meat fell apart like butter. All the other foods coming out of the kitchen looked really good too.
Inside can be quite noisy but there is outside seating with space heaters at picnic tables. Ruben was very good.
The husband unit, liked everything except but the 2 barley wines, which I liked one of them. We had just eaten and only stopped in for a night cap. The food we did see looked Very Yummy!! Service was great! They have a good friendly staff. The price for the 12 tasters was a GREAT price! For me to like 7 tasters out of 12... That's fantastic!!! If you don't like hoppy you should get along well with this place if you do like hoppy then you're gonna get along just fine too!!! Happy (Hoppy or not ) tasting!!
Took a second to be greated but once we were service was great! Emerald triangle was our favorite beer we tried. Got the chicken, shrimp, fish & chip platter....not healthy at all but very tasty. Added garlic & parmesan to our fries. Yum! Loved the low key bar vibe. Liked the wide menu selection & they went with local ingredients where they could! Had it not just rained would have loved sitting outside. Loved that the patio was ADA accessible. Only thing that could have made this better is if the patio was dog friendly (but understand as not all dog owners are responsible). Would reccomend to others & would go back.
Beer is always good but the food service can be hit and miss. The last few times have been great. There's one waitress that is awful everytime
We stopped at Eel River Brewing Company during an unexpected delay and found it to be a decent place to land for a while. It was early afternoon and felt like a true local bar where everyone knew each other, which made it easy to settle in. I skipped appetizers and ordered the tri-tip chili, which was hearty enough to be a full meal. I liked that the smoked flavor came through without being overpowered by spices. My partner had the chili cheeseburger. The burger was a bit overcooked, but the chili helped bring it together. Service was a little slow and inconsistent by table, but the food was satisfying once it arrived. Overall, a solid option for passing through or when you need a comfortable place to wait out a flood-induced highway closure.
Stopped as I was heading through town for fish and chips. However, I substituted the fries for onion rings. I thought it was going to be halibut, but unfortunately they were out. The fish was still yummy though and good tarter sauce. The onion rings were super crispy. They seemed a tad over done with a slight burnt taste to them but they were still ok. Friendly service. I would stop again when in the area.
I come here usually once a month. I've tried their Nachos which are a pretty good size and with meat come out to almost $20. This last time I had their Tuesday board special which was a steak, side, soup or salad and small piece of garlic bread all for a little over $30. The price was definitely great especially for the portion. I did feel that the gravy was a bit salty though. They have a killer margarita so I would recommend that as well. I also had the loaded potato wedges which are good too. Overall the food and price is good. They were busy so service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere was pretty cool. I would recommend and I'll be back to share new tastings from the menu.

Excellent fish and chips. The best I’ve had. Plenty for two or you can get the small portion. Clam chowder was disappointing. Go for the fish and chips. Also, friendly staff
Food was ok, beer is good, but service wasn’t good. Server didn’t seem happy. It could have been a much better experience for the price you pay.
Wanted to check this place out while we were in the area. Like that they’re an organic microbrewery. Thought they would be a better pub. Was underwhelmed by the food: burger and garden burger just average quality/ingredients. Fries were good though. Beer is IPA heavy like most other breweries. When will IPAs finally go away? The Stout was weak flavored. I didn’t get a second beer. The place has potential but needs to step it up (and should) in order to compete
Was sold on the “world famous Rueben”. Tastes like maple syrup which reminds me of the McGriddle. Ranch was great, Thai Peanut wings were great. Got the fries with the fixings which were average. Wish I would have gone to bed hungry. $51 for my dinner. Probably won’t be do this again.
Came in for a beer recently. This place calls itself a ‘brewing company’ but unfortunately operates more like a restaurant. You have to wait to be seated and the servers seem annoyed if you aren’t ordering food. We felt uncomfortable for just ordering drinks - a real shame as the beer was good.
Was not personally impressed with the food (got the Westerner burger and the Cali burger) and the type of bread didn't work very well with the burgers. No really big issues with the food, just not my personal taste. The rest of my group however seemed very happy with their food, especially the fish & chips and the chicken sandwhich. They wouldn't sit us inside due to our large group (10 people) and put us outside away from the heaters, which was pretty uncomfortable. Service was amazing.
I've had good experiences in the past, but the last time I was in they were unable to cook my burger medium well, the first was raw in the middle and the second was cooked dry. I'm a little confused about their beer pricing too, they sell their own beer for $1 more than I can get it at the bar, $6 for a 16OZ glass, but they also have a 19OZ can of the same beer for $3.99 on the menu.
Everything was okay. Not bad in any way, but just okay. Servers were very courteous and pleasant. The clam chowder was strangely very solid ish (like you could eat it with a fork) but tasted fine.
I love this place and always get the shrimp and chips but today I was quite disappointed. Unfortunately the shrimp were not peeled all the way. Kept getting shrimp shell at the end of each shrimp. …
Place was packed and the food was mediocre and expensive. Small portion size. Bathrooms not cleaned. We won’t be back.

We waited over an hour for our food. The server only checked on us a couple of times over the hour and a half we were there. The food was subpar and overpriced. The beer and atmosphere were good though, I’d recommend only going for drinks.
So far, staff has been less than friendly, making those who are obvious regulars a priority, allowing them to mingle around bar and serving first, though we were in line prior to the regulars arriving. It seems there are plenty of staff working, yet many of the tables spaced more than 6 feet apart are empty, we are still waiting after 30 minutes
The food is good, fries is awesome. But we had been waiting for our order about 1 hour. About beer: not bad, but not the best. And the main thing: broken glass. I’ve noticed that when 1/3 beer left. Waitress took the glass and even didn’t excuse for it. Bartender brought new glass with 1/2 of beer and said “Sorry”.
My husband highly recommended Eel River Brewing he has always had a great experience. I was finally able to visit the restaurant. I ordered the black and blue salad. The description was spinach, walnuts, blue cheese crumbles and thinly sliced new York steak. I received my salad and the "new York steak" was absolutely disgusting pure fat and gristle. 95% of the meat was uneatable. The waiter was very apologetic and did his best to make things right. I do not know what cut of meat they are using but they should not advertise for thinly sliced new York steak.

Omg, nothing good to say about this place. The server was RUDE and dismissive, slow to serve us, and argued about the bill afterwards. The other servers were nice but not her. She acted like it was our fault for not complaining about the food soon enough, when she never even came back to the table.
Worse experience ever. Only came because I saw it on TikTok. Our waiter was nice but the food was very mediocre and had no flavor. Upon asking for a receipt and a to go box we waited over 35 minutes before she came to get the card another 15 min after taking the card and still was never given a to go box. All while she continuously waited other people around us. I will never be back and regret spending my money here.
Walked from our hotel and the river walk. Thought you can't go wrong at a brewpub in Northern California. Experience was so disappointing. Ordered the tri tip sandwich which is a big deal in this part of California. It was the worst blah bland tri tip I ever had. Poor server had to run from inside to outside and never even came by to check on us. We finally went in and to get out of there and our bill.
Out of food, 2 of the 4 of us had to change orders. 45 minute wait to get our food and place was not close to full. By the time the 4th person received their bowl of chili as a meal, the rest of us were over half way done with our meal. Won't go back.
There was a long blone hair in my taco salad, imbedded in the sour cream and guac. I informed the waitress, she took it to the back and I watched her pull the hair out with all the other servers gathered around her. They all laughed while looking over at our table. She said sorry when she came back - but only as she was walking away without giving us a chance to speak. And every time she walked back onto the floor she avoided our table taking the long way around. We didn't get our drinks refilled or offered boxes. It took FOREVER to get the check!! I left hungry, mortifiedand embarrassed. HER NAME IS GRACIE H. Completely unacceptable service. Don't eat here if you value your dignity, time or money.
This is what a 30 dollar meal looks like. Minus the drink. 12 dollar mac and cheese that was smaller than a can of soda, which really was just alright, and a 13 dollar pound of "boneless buffalo wings" that is really just undercooked chicken breast with the faintest bit of buffalo sauce on top, that went straight into the trash. I literally never leave reviews because most of the time if I don't have a good food experience, it's probably because I was taking a risk. However, this is a brewery. These are brewery staples. Breweries should have good food, with good portions, and for a good price. But this? This is by far the most disappointing meal I've ever had. Get your act together.
We just ate here as we was passing through. The food was okay/good. They was out of fries being the day after 4th July.. my biggest complaint is the wait on our food. All the ice from our drinks had melted by time we got our food, I don’t mind waiting, as long as the food is FRESH AND HOT. But our plates was barely warm! Tots was slightly over fried. Server didn’t come back to check… we had to get another server to get her so we could get our check. We spent $75 plus. And wasn’t worth it.
Do yourself a favor and drive the extra couple of mile to the In and Out Burger! I wanted to go to a local place on our drive from Southern California to Oregon so I was thrilled to find this place. I asked one of their servers, John a question about whose table we belonged to and he stared at me with a wide open mouth before walking away without saying anything? Who does that? Again, do yourself a favor and skip this place! The food wasn’t much better than the terrible service! Boo!
