We have been to Fredericksburg 5 times and this was our first time to the Altdorf Biergarten. We didn't know what we were missing! My husband ordered the jaegerschnitzel and I had the chicken fried chicken with the jaeger sauce. Both were excellent. Our waitress was very nice and I got to speak a little German with her. The restaurant itself is very attractive, old limestone building and has a lovely outdoor patio. I definitely recommend it! We went early, around 4, so no wait.

The food was great. I especially liked the pickled cabbage. The bacon based sauce for the schnitzel was superb. Our waiter did disappear during our dinner and did not offer refills until we were ready to leave which is why I rated the service 4 stars.

Absolutely delicious! The chicken schnitzel was crispy and tender, and the sauerkraut balls were the perfect starter—hot, tangy, and full of flavor. Service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere on the patio was relaxed and welcoming. A must-visit in Fredericksburg!

Perfect place to eat! The staff were attentive and friendly, excellent service. Inside the place looks cozy, the food was delicious with affordable prices. Also you can eat outside and enjoying the street's view. We enjoyed eating here, I hope will back soon!

During a recent weekend trip to Fredericksburg, we stumbled upon Altered Biergarten on a Friday night when we weren’t sure where to dine. As someone from Germany, I was a bit nervous about whether the restaurant would meet my expectations. Despite a bit of a wait for our table, the experience was saved by our server, Corbin, who turned our evening around with his humor and genuine warmth. We started the meal with currywurst and fried pickles, and they were absolutely amazing - a perfect introduction to the menu. For the main course, I had the Wiener schnitzel. While it wasn’t the best schnitzel I’ve had, it was definitely not the worst I’ve experienced here in the States. One of the highlights for me was finding a Radler on the menu - a refreshing choice I truly appreciated, even if it might raise a few eyebrows back home! Overall, Corbin’s fantastic service and lively personality made our visit memorable, and I’m really glad we decided to give Altered Biergarten a try. Thanks Corbin for making our night so special and fun. It’s a great spot to enjoy some unique twists on traditional favorites with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended! 🍻🥰

Enjoy Exploring

It was a great experience dine in at their outdoor seat on a sunny day. There was a musician singing in the patio. Regarding the food, the beer sampler set is great way to try different crafted beer there. I strongly recommend the pretzels with beer cheese & house mustard sauce and the bavarian goulash. Also, their French fries are amazing, definitely should try!

We came to get good German food, and that’s what we received. David was our waiter, and we let him lead the way as to what was highly recommended. The table was full and so was our bellies. Very minor wait when we arrived. It was perfect weather for outdoor seating. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, but sort of disappeared towards the end of our meal . Dessert took almost 30 min to come out... it was good though! Everything else was tasty and we would definitely come back k again. 🍻

Went yesterday for lunch. I was relieved to find the relative calm of the bar. Bartender was very friendly, courteous, excellent service in spite of filling all the incoming servers' drinks orders. Ordered the wienerschnitzel plate--SO GOOD. Spaetzle and purple cabbage were very tasty with the schnitzel. I was going to go to a wine bar after, but then I saw they had Weisenstephaner on tap and I was like, welp, guess I won't be doing that now! Great experience.

I love the service & atmosphere of Altdorf Biergarten. The elderly German waitress was really nice & knowledgeable about the menu items. She walked me through the entire restaurants & even showed me where to take pictures. The restaurant was built on a very old well that they sealed with tempered glass so you can stand on top & look directly down its depths. The lighting inside is a wonderful mix of sunlight, eminating through drawn laced curtained wimdows, & soft warm glow of chandelier light. Beautiful western themed paintings lined the rugged antique stone walls of this ancient spacious building. The restrooms are always clean & service was very professional & prompt. There is also a very large & well organized outdoor area spread out against a beautiful landscape mural. THAT BEING SAID, the food is pretty bland, mediocre, & the portion sizes were a bit small for the price. I had the fried pickles for appetizer which were pretty good, but again kinda skimpy for $11. The Jagerschnitzel, with potato salad & red cabbage & Zwiebelschnitzel with spatzle pasta & red cabbage were both pretty bland & came out luke warm. I had their burger & fries on another trip there & it was a bit better, but nothing extraordinary. Their presentation & plating is pretty good though & adds to the experience & atmosphere dining there.

This is a cool building in beautiful Fredericksburg. The service was good, not great. Unfortunately I have to say that the food was not good. I ordered the Schnitzel and it was dry and lukewarm. The Spatzle had no flavor and for some reason were an orange color. The Rotkohl (red cabbage) was the worst I've ever had and I've had a lot. It was vinegary, but otherwise not well seasoned and overcooked. The Apfelstrudel, despite looking pretty on the plate, was either previously frozen or just old. The side of vanilla ice cream was yummy though. I was disappointed since this place had been recommended by a local. Maybe some of the other dishes are better but there really are not a lot of German options on the menu otherwise. I didn't see any vegetarian options.

Altdorf Biergarten, on 27 Dec 25 we four had lunch at this place. The facility inside and outside was a really neat place to visit. The hostess and waitress were very nice people. My issue is with the kitchen and food served. It took at least 1 hours 35 minutes from placing our order to food placed on the table. Completely unacceptable, also without any communications about what the problem was in the kitchen. My wife and I ordered the Bavarian Goulash, Spätzle, and red cabbage. The goulash had very little bits of pieces of meat, watery mix, and the Spätzle was just little orange looking bits of noodle. Terrible presentation of food and tasted awful. The red cabbage was the only good food item served. We have eaten this exact dish in Germany and Austria many, many times over the years. Whoever the cook was that day obviously never has had authentic Bavarian style goulash and Spätzle and or not able to follow a good recipe. Combined with the poor food and the unrealistic wait time from ordering, if not for the service staff this visit would not even rate 1 star? No explanation on what the issues were with the kitchen on this day. Also, no self respecting German restaurant would run out their 3 best selling German beers by 1230 hours.
