Coming from an OYSTER LOVER, Shucks Tavern and Oyster Bar did NOT disappoint! I was lucky enough that I walked in during the down time, one of the bartenders said its normally difficult to get a seat! There is a long bar inside and a few tables, very cute and boutique vibes! They have the oysters on display in the front, some local, and some from the east coast too! All labeled! I ordered a dozen raw sampler and I was so in love and in my ultimate happy place! They shucked the oysters right in front of me!!! Such an amazing experience! Also tried one of their Cucumber Jalepeno Margaritas which was fantastic! I will absolutely return every time I am in the area, might even dip back in for dinner tonight and try their grilled oysters sampler and another craft cocktail! They were so sweet and gave me a koozie too! Thank you! Y'all are THE BEST! I spent $65 total with a tip included!

It was a truly exceptional experience at this establishment. We had the pleasure of sampling their blackened red snapper, shrimp, and lump crab meat served over angel hair pasta in a delightful wine sauce. In addition, we enjoyed the red snapper ceviche and a selection of Gulf Coast oysters, all of which were of the highest quality. The flavors, ingredients, and freshness of the dishes were perfectly complemented by our Caymus wine and wheat beer. Overall, we had a wonderful time at this restaurant. Their Chocolate cheesecake was out of this world. Our server, bartender, and entertainer, Carlos, was outstanding; he possessed an impressive knowledge of the menu and offered excellent recommendations. Everything he suggested was delicious. We certainly plan to return when we are in the area again.

The experience was fantastic. Sat immediately (though I did sit bar side). The raw oyster selection had six types available today, making two per an even dozen. The blackened snapper had a bark so nice and crispy- with just the right amount of spice to balance the soft white flaky fish. Spinach + Broccoli. Both seasoned well and perfect temp. Was a bit on the spendy side, but would certainly eat here again.

A must try in Galveston! Don’t pass up this quaint oyster bar! Food & drinks were awesome and would highly recommend! Will definitely be coming back here next time we are in town.

If you're anywhere near Galveston and love oysters, you have to stop by Shucks Tavern. This place is a hidden gem! We tried two kinds of grilled oysters--Rockefeller and Parmesan Panko--and both were absolute standouts. Add in the bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp stuffed with cream cheese and pepper jack, and we were in seafood heaven. I also tried the Bloody Mary that came with a delicious grilled shrimp. It was delicious and made with expertise and care! What really made the experience, though, was the staff. Our waitress, Veronica was so kind, fun, and personable. When she found out I love raw oysters (but didn't order them so my partner & I could share everything), she had one shucked and sent to the table on the house. Who does that anymore?! They specialize in East Coast oysters, and I can honestly say these were the best oysters I've ever had. Cozy, welcoming, and ridiculously delicious--Shucks Tavern is everything you want in a coastal seafood spot.

Came down for a little weekend get away and landed on this staple. First off the atmosphere is great. The waiters and bartenders are all friendly and fun. As for the food it was amazing, the oysters were fresh and came perfectly shucked, the ceviche (forgot to take a picture) was super yummy, and the lobsters roll was delicious with a healthy amount of lobster meat and not too much sauce. Definitely will come back again!

OMG, I've eaten at so many seafood restaurants back home in NYC, Puerto Rico, Florida, and all over the US. This place serves THE BEST mussels! The grilled oysters were also amazing! The bread was perfect as well. Music and ambiance were just right. Wish I went to this place earlier. The staff were so cool and personable.

Update: 2/9/2025 We came back during oyster season and got Mermaid Tears. Probably the best oysters I've ever had. We tried the seafood gumbo which was delicious! 10/2024 Very clean and classy place for food and drinks. Raw gulf oysters were not available for safety, but they had some Old Salt from VA that were delicious. We had beer, Ranch Water and Palomas...all great. The Key Lime pie for dessert was amazing.

Super fun place near the strand. We went here for a random lunch date and ended up talking about how we plan to come back for brunch and to try everything on the menu next time we come back to Galveston (every few months) I love East Coast oysters, in which they bring in year round. I also love a gulf oyster being from clear lake, and tried this type called Angel Tear and they were wonderful! Highly recommend. Cocktails are fun, but the lobster roll we split looked like it was served on a loaf of buttered bread, with a generous amount of lobster meat. It was so generous I saw a whole chunk of claw meat and got excited. It was a great lunch idea after touring some of the historic homes. The atmosphere is wonderful, it’s classy, nautical, half bar, half high tops. We don’t want your kids here please. Drink your coffee and espresso before coming here for brunch, and enjoy the cocktails and raw/ Rockefeller oysters. We will be back for brunch. 🙏🏽❤️

As a fan of raw oysters, I was thrilled to find this gem for lunch, even if my husband wasn't as keen on the oysters. Upon arrival, we were given the freedom to choose our own seats, and our waitress immediately made us feel welcome. Recognizing my love for oysters, she kindly recommended a sampler platter, allowing me to savor a variety of flavors. Our meal continued with an Oyster BLT Po-Boy and a Chicken BLT sandwich, both accompanied by delectable onion strings. The Chicken BLT particularly won over my husband, who couldn't stop singing its praises. Throughout our dining experience, our server charmed us with her warmth and even shared insights about the tavern and other eateries owned by the same owner.

The food was really good. We had grilled snapper, mussels and lobster roll. The roll was bit salty to my taste, otherwise everything was nice. The only drawback is their limited space and only a small table with high chair available if the number of guests is 2. They didn't offer regular table even though there were 2 tables available throughout our time even though we asked for it. I understand it could be their policy, but I wished for a regular table.

If you love oysters this is the right place to have them. No happy hour deals on them though. We paid around 40 or 45 for 12. Also tried the chicken gumbo and the ceviche and they were fine. Wouldnt go back if not for the oysters.

Small place with cute decor. Clean, spacious, stocked restrooms. I was disappointed in the food and service. It’s Fisherman’s Warf prices but not FW quality of food ingredients, flavors or preparation of the food. The redfish was way overcooked and tough, hard and chewy. The broccoli mix was hard and lacking flavor. I did not like the lobster roll at all. The bread was dry. The lobster filling bland and dry. The lobster was cold and inside the lobster meat was wet and mushy. The fried fish poboy was ok. The onion strings were good but didn’t see any jalapeno with those. The chicken and sausage gumbo was good and full of sausage chicken and veggies, had a good dark color and flavor, but very heavy on the okra. The thin fried bread pieces served with the gumbo was a nice spin and tasted good alone or dipped in the gumbo. The service was miserably slow. No pace at all. Waited too long for drinks. Waited too long for boxes and the check. Watched them drying glasses and putting away dishes while waiting on drinks and refills. They charge extra for using credit card.
