Fantastic! Decor, simple and elegant. Service, Hayleigh, I spelled that right!😀. Awesome! Management, Kayla and Eric! Always checking service and food! Menu! Farm to table, food exceptional. I enjoyed the special, lobster risotto, wife had the Red Brick Chicken, wow! Comfort food at its finest! Great experience all around worth the travel. I also learned this is a “chain”! Well far from that sort of description! But a hospitality group! Will be revisiting this fine dining experience for sure. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The atmosphere is very nice, chic, the service was excellent. Waiter did a wonderful job. I ordered the NY strip steak. I was ok, sort of tough. The veggies were good but kinda of watery.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch with Brian J., who was incredibly kind, attentive, patient, and brought a great sense of humor. The food was really delightful too! I especially loved the snake bite (minus shrimp) and absolutely adored the homemade pasta!

One of the best brunch spots in the DMV. All the food I had was fantastic. A nice variety of desserts, beverages and seasonal drinks. Everything was seasoned, fresh and delicious.

Was here for a work holiday party on 12/18/25 at the back side of the building. What an amazing event! ✨️🥰✨️🎄 I think we all had a wonderful time laughing and connecting. All of the courses were healthy and delicious. We loved the mini crab cakes and sauce, and the multi-layer chocolate cake. Salmon, chicken, vegetables, bread, bartender drinks, everything was delicious! One of our guests expressed that they wish they could have danced. I'll mention that to our team in case it's even possible. I hope we are back next year ~ whether we can dance or not!

Wonderful spot for meeting up with friends on a Suday morning. Although there was no brunch menu (it was New Years Day), the regular menu was avaiable and some awesome choices. Special requests were not an issue and our server was top notch. Looking forward to visiting this establishment when in the area again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Blackwell Barn and Lodge – Wedding Anniversary Dinner We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Blackwell Barn and Lodge, and everything was absolutely wonderful. The service was outstanding — our server, Alexander, went above and beyond to make the evening special. The food was just as impressive! The Chesapeake pasta was full of flavor and perfectly prepared, and the crab soup was rich and delicious. From start to finish, the atmosphere, food, and service all came together for a truly memorable night. A huge thank you to Alexander for his kindness, attentiveness, and making our anniversary dinner unforgettable. Highly recommend this spot for any special occasion!

This post is long overdue. However, it’s better late than never. The food here is ALWAYS fresh and made to order. The food actually feels also that it is made with love. As a Google reviewer, I have zero complaints with this restaurant. Our server Kaitlyn was very attentive and even opened the door for us when we left the restaurant. The food, customer service and overall ambiance is one you don’t want to pass up!

It was my first time here at this place and I was absolutely blown away within this place! The food was great in addition the service was excellent. We also wanted to recognize Brian June because he was absolutely wonderful. So friendly and personable he added to our experience overall. I would give 10 stars. I can't wait to visit with you again!

Amazing experience: food, attentiveness, customer service and atmosphere! The food was fresh, at the right temp, seasoned well & a good portion for the money. James was also amazing; his command of the menu and ALL of his suggestions were well received. Not one disappointment!!

Food was excellent. Our waitress made several recommendations which were spot on. We started with Flaming Crab Dip which was excellent. Their Scallop & Shrimp Risotto, Short Rib Artisan Pizza, and the Braised Beef Short Ribs were fantastic. Followed up with Berry Cobbler and Raspberry-White Chocolate Cheesecake. Highly recommend.

Jules and Kia deliver…..again! We got engaged in November, and we’re back for a smoked cherry old fashioned and peanut butter pie to top off date night. Both women made us feel welcomed and remembered us.

We had an incredible dining experience at Blackwall Barn & Lodge! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a perfect balance of rustic charm and modern elegance. Our waitress, Jewels, made the evening even more enjoyable. She was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed. Her service was top-notch, making us feel genuinely welcome and well taken care of. The food was outstanding—everything was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Whether you're here for a special occasion or just a great meal, this place delivers on all fronts. We’ll definitely be back and will be asking for Jewels again! Highly recommend!

This restaurant has excellent service—everyone, including management, greets you as soon as you walk in. The space is beautifully decorated, clean, and offers three seating areas, a fireplace, and a private dining room. I had the branzino with rice and vegetables, and it was absolutely delicious. We sampled a variety of items from the menu, and everything was fresh and full of flavor. The strawberry lemonade was sweet but refreshing, and the blueberry tea was a favorite at our table. Katie, our server, was very attentive, and with great food and service, I’ll definitely be back for brunch.

Overall, it has nice ambience and beautiful decorations. The restaurant itself is big and has 3 areas - an indoor dining + bar, a private reception area where events can be held, and another area wherein they have live performances. The food was good, a bit pricey but they provide decent portion sizes. The staff are friendly and they have a huge lot for parking as well.

Had a group of 20 and you had a limited menu. You had a choice of an appetizer, entree and dessert. Good options. Maryland crabcake was extra

Everything here is absolutely amazing. I first heard about this restaurant from my sister and it was so above my expectations. This is the best experience my family has experienced from service to food.

Our food was absolutely incredible! Our server was Jacob, we sat outside and he was soooo attentive and very very knowledgeable! Always ask for Jacob when you come he is a gentlemen with black glasses and red beard. Lovely and helpful staff. I can’t say enough about this place and the people running it! 10/10 would recommend! I will return in the near future for sure!

Lets start with sean our waiter who was welcoming and knowledgeable of the menu he made this review seamless. His suggestions were great for us having our first visit.the food was excellent from the appetizer to the main corse. The prices are reasonable for the over all experience. As I say dinning is not just about the food. This place is a must visit for special occasions and date night. I have set a high bar hope they can maintain for my next visit.

Coming in the door you are greeted with warmth and smiles. The atmosphere is amazing, service outstanding, food is beyond outstanding. I had the Chesapeake entree. Flaming crab dip and calamari. Oh and the dessert (smith island cake 15 layers and every layer was heavenly. I called the GENERAL MANAGER over and just layed my head on his shoulder, the food was just that outstanding. This was my first time here and I can say it will not be my last.

Hands down this experience was beautiful and rustic. We were here for a birthday, and they made the occasion special. Every detail from the lighting down to the ingredients within the food—everything was well thought out. Ms. Kia and Ms. Jules went out of their way to explain the menu, recommend drinks, and made us feel welcomed. The manager even came up to us personally to ask us about our experience. All I can say is that this place has blown past my expectations. Again, thank you to the servers, the chefs, and the manager.

Went with the whole family on new years eve for a late lunch. They put us in our own room. Everything was great! The service, the food, everything! There were 11 of us and everyone was happy- even the kiddos. The restaurant is beautiful. I will definitely be back for a date night:)

Incredible experience! We came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and were blown away. The food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The service was next-level: Miguel, the manager, went above and beyond, and James was hands-down the best server we’ve ever had. They even surprised us by moving our table to the cozy spot by the fireplace just because they knew we were celebrating. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and made the night feel special. Easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Maryland—highly recommend!

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful experience. We were a large party celebrating a life well lived of a good friend. We were treated like royalty by the queen of restaurant servers- Bailey. She was superb, full of smiles and great suggestions from an outstanding menu that was ridiculously hard to choose from. When I finally chose- hot honey chicken sandwich with the Barn fries, I was in heaven! Several of the group chose their incredible burger. Everything was served together and piping hot. For 16 people all at once was just unbelievable! Much love and kudos to Blackwall Barn & Lodge!!

We had an absolutely phenomenal brunch at Blackwall Hitch, and our server James made the experience truly exceptional. From the moment we sat down, James greeted us with warmth, professionalism, and a genuine passion for hospitality that instantly made us feel welcome. The food? Incredible. The shrimp and grits were rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned—comfort food elevated to gourmet status. The fresh omelets were cooked to perfection, with vibrant ingredients and just the right amount of fluff. And the oyster bar? A must-try! The oysters were fresh, briny, and beautifully presented—an ideal start to a luxurious brunch. James guided us through the menu with expert recommendations, making sure we got the best of what Blackwall Hitch has to offer. His timing was impeccable, his attention to detail unmatched, and his friendly demeanor made us feel like we were dining with a friend who truly cared about our experience. If you're looking for a brunch spot that combines amazing food with top-tier service, Blackwall Hitch is it—and James is the one to ask for. We’ll definitely be back!

As a party of four we enjoyed dinner at The Blackwall Barn and Lodge on Saturday evening. From the moment we checked in our reservation the hostess greeted us with a friendly welcoming and remained engaging as she seated us in front of a warm fireplace. All of our party were pleasantly surprised with the cozy atmosphere the seating provided even though the space is impressive with its high ceilings. Our server, Roula was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and took her time explaining the delicious options. She remained attentive but more importantly allowed us to enjoy our night out with friends without feeling rushed. The food was a true experience with my salmon grilled to perfection. The chicken potpie was a hearty treat with a perfectly flakey crust and the New York steak was a generous cut grilled just as ordered. Roula even informed us of the live music to come so we settled in, ordered dessert (the cheesecake was a creamy delight!) and enjoyed the ambiance! The musician was a true talent and complimented the dinner music selection that was playing when we arrived. Before leaving we toured the room options available for private parties and events. We’ve already started discussing special party events! Thank you for a lovely first experience at the Blackwall Barn and Lodge. We will definitely be returning soon!

First time visiting The Blackwall Barn & Lodge. We joined another couple for Sunday Brunch. Everything was top notch. The buffet food was amazing. It stayed fresh and hot. The shrimp and grits were definitely my favorite. A variety of delicious deserts! The atmosphere was very upbeat, and to top it off, there was live music, and the singer was great! The service was also great. Our server was very courteous, professional and attentive. We will definitely be back!

We’ve visited this restaurant many times, and this visit was a special Mother–Son dinner. The restaurant, as always, had its signature warm, slightly dark ambience. We were seated and served right away. Our server, Jacob, was in‑freaking‑credible. He anticipated everything we needed, stayed attentive without hovering, and was genuinely friendly. Truly top‑tier service. The food was excellent, as it always is. My son ordered a sandwich with au jus on the side, and I went for the snake bites along with the house‑made seafood and pasta. Everything was delicious. Another fantastic visit to Blackwall Barn and Lodge. I’ll absolutely be back.

I have been to the The Blackwall Barn & Lodge several times and it never disappoints! The food is and drinks are always delicious. My favorites are the crab dip appetizer, the bacon appetizer, the prime rib main, and the short rib main. This time around, my group had Jacob as our server and he was wonderful! You can tell he loves what he does. Jacob was friendly, responsive, and communicative. Will definitely ask to sit in his section again.

Just moved to the area and was getting dinner with a new friend, I asked for somewhere that had good seafood options (since I’m a pescatarian) and not a big chain restaurant, so he chose The Blackwall. Loved the outward appearance of the building and how nice and neat it presented. The foyer was just as neat and clean with an added layer of warm and welcoming. Such a small space, most don’t pay any mind to, said so much to me. I entered and was greeted by a young woman hostess, and directed to the table where my friend was waiting for me. Rian was our server and he was absolutely AMAZING. I loved everything about him , his personality, and how he carried himself through out the whole night. He did great with checking in us and seeing how we were doing without making us feel rushed, or that we’d be forgotten about if we didn’t order immediately. He was super knowledgeable about the menu and the specials (so much so, I never ever opened the menu and know just about all my options) I ordered the Brussels Spout (skip the bacon), and the red snapper with RITZ breading (holy amazing) :::inset drool emoji::::: , and my friend got calamari and the short ribs. Every bite of both meals was absolutely delicious. I can’t say enough about my experience there tonight. Looking forward to returning often and trying more of the menu Also, shout out for having the business cards with the QR code for the review. Not something I see restaurants do often and as a fellow business owner that does something similar, I was impressed

We celebrated two birthdays. James was our waiter! He was very professional amazingly well versed with current menu selections! He provided wonderful drink recommendations and he was very well versed with the menu. The food was delicious. James made outstanding menu and drink recommendations. Be certain to ask for James' drink recommendations (he has several). The atmosphere at Blackwall Barn is Always perfect (never rushed). We entered and left the restaurant very happy.

I wrote a review about two weeks ago regarding my disappointment with NOT knowing that Sundays offers Brunch only, I stated there should be Internet presence for that information especially if you are a first time visitor. I had issues, with the food being luke warm as well as the 18% automatic gratuity. To my surprise not only was my review read but the Manager and Assistant General Manager (Danny Vera) called me during the Thanksgiving Holiday. That really impressed me. Danny wanted me to know that first and foremost that he was very sorry for my experience and wanted to make it right. It invited my husband and I do revisit anytime we wanted and assured me that he would take care of us. I opted for Saturday, November 29 @6pm. What an experience from the time we walked in the door, the hostess, our server (Will) were all extraordinary. Danny assured me that anytime I wanted to visit this establishment he would ensure that I experienced the same quality service that I got on this day. He had a conversation with both my husband and myself about importance of customer service and keeping one's word and I believe him. Here's to Danny Vera, Will and all the folks at Blackwall Barn & Lodge, I highly recommend this restaurant to any and everyone. What an experience I felt like royalty. Thank you, Thank you, Mia Smith

Had a visit with Brian today. I went looking for a good atmosphere, ambiance, and to be to be treated nice and boy did i get the experience i was looking for! The food was great, and good portions for the price. Our steak was a smidge over cooked but it was a thin one so it makes sense that it carry-over-cooked..but it was still eat-able and everything else was great, so we didnt complain. Still one of my fav places to go for the right vibes, and still going to be one for the future 👌👌💪

We came for a retirement party. My first drink came 22 minutes later at 7pm. The onion soup was cold, the salad was tasty, the salmon was very good , but the crab cakes had shell in almost every bite.

My wife and I went here for dinner as a recommendation from some friends. We were seated right away and the atmosphere seemed pretty cool and it had a good vibe. We had some cocktails, apps, and entrees. Most of the things we tried were very good. We will most likely try this restaurant again.

First time here, and it was a good time. Everything that came to the table was of high quality, and the presentation was not skipped. Our server SoSo was exceptional and very knowledgeable of things on the menu to suggest. Cons - My party of 8 had to wait an extended time to be seated for a 3pm reservation. Receiving our orders took an unusually long time. Everything we ordered from the water, drinks, appetizers, and entre' took a long time to come to the table. I'm going to Chuck the cons up to the fact that My party of 8 was a party of 8. The restaurant wasn't that busy on Sunday so I didn't see why the wait time but it wouldn't keep Me from coming back.

This is a very nice restaurant with a lot of appealing dishes on the menu. I had lobster bisque, scallop and shrimp risotto, and garlic spinach. There were nine of us and everyone enjoyed their entrees. The serving sizes are generous. Our server was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. I liked it overall, and I would dine there again.

I had Red Barn Chicken and imho it was unremarkable. My wife had an excellent Scallop dish. Huge scallops and portion, beautifully cooked. *Update Lunch Sunday 8/18/23. Much better imho. There is a lot to like about Blackwall. No wait to sit at peak time on Sunday. The menu is large and has a wide variety of cuisine and also prices. It is the only place I know that gives free refill, and a very reasonable priced, for fruit juice. Everyone should find something. We sampled the Brussel Sprouts to start with. Very nicely done with dijon mustard and bacon. I had a 12oz New York Strip and it was perfectly cooked to Medium. The vegetable medley and potatoes were all really perfectly cooked. My wife and daughter had home made pasta dishes; Lemon Chicken & Snakebite, which were really nice too. We also had Chocolate Cake, Smith Island cake and Apple Bread Pudding for desert. All very good and everything very good portions. Not a single complaint about the food which was really very good indeed. Having said that we did not find the food exciting. I asked and not one of us felt impelled enough to come back for any particular item, even though it was plentiful, all really well cooked and presented. The kitchen was fast. No waiting time, considering how busy they were. Service with Joe was exceptional, highly professional and perfect. His observation and timing on table was brilliant. Not too much attention and not too little. It was the atmosphere that very nearly spoiled the whole experience. Sunday brunch time true, but the general ambience must have been about 85db. It was close to being in a night club. Good to hear folks enjoying themselves, but at times it was impossible to have any conversation at all with my daughter who sat 12" to my right. Incredibly noisy, so suggest you avoid busy times, like Sunday Brunch time here. Otherwise definitely recommended. *Update Thursday 7/31/25 lunch for 3. We wanted to try again for a quieter mid week lunch, but it was still too noisy and despite several requests the music stayed too loud (for both tables) in the "quiet" area outside the restrooms. Unplug the speaker! Our orders for Onion Soup, Chicken Pot Pie, NY Strip and where appropriate their sides were exceptionally good. I ordered a "House Special" of ham in a maple syrup. This was $22 without sides. I ordered fries which were OK and mixed veg's which were exceptional. $9 each. A $40+ meal. What came for ham was a thick cut of unsliced very fatty (streaky?) bacon. There was over 50% thick of veinless fat. The cheapest port belly or streaky cut, and I am not impressed. Half of the meat, sorry 80% of the fat, was returned to the kitchen for comment, and the server indicated they had nothing to say... If they used a couple of leaner gammon steaks and some pineapple instead, that could have been a very good dish indeed. So I am disappointed, even though just about everything else was very good indeed. Service by Ben was 5*, but because he did not get the support he needed behind him I have taken a star of from (overall) Service, but still left the 4* overall rating. Still well recommended if you can stand the poor ambience of this "Barn" of a place. If, like us you want to hear yourself speak, try another one of their restaurants; The Firehouse in Waugh Chapel instead why don't you!

J
Jacob Phillips

It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. The service was alright for a slower night. It took 20 minutes to get water but that’s not the worst thing ever; I get it. The food was pretty good but a little more on the pricey side for the quality received. This would be a perfect date night or special occasion spot, not a quick bite to eat kind of deal. The highlight of the meal was the used dental stick on the floor next to our table! Honestly I would come back because this place has potential, I might of just came here on a rough night.

B
Briana “Bre” Williams

While I appreciate the consistency across this restaurant group, I'm finding the menus a tad too familiar. It would be exciting to see more unique dishes tailored to each location's ambiance (which are very similar, just have different names) and clientele. A little culinary exploration and design would go a long way in creating distinct dining experiences. Perhaps seasonal specials or chef-driven creations could add a welcome element of surprise. That said, the quality and service remain commendable as always. I look forward to seeing what culinary innovations the future holds.

This place lost points on a lot of small things that added up. First we were seated with no drink menus. Our waitress brought one over and it had no drinks in it, for some reason all the pages with drinks were removed. Then I had to specifically ask what the specials were that were listed on the menu. This place is a presenting as a higher end restaurant and you shouldnt have to do things like ask specifically for specials or flag down your waiter when you need something at a place like this. We ordered calamari which came out very quick, but for the price Ive definitely had much better, and fresher tasting. I asked a question about the size of the portion for my main course and when I recieved it, it was not accurate whatsoever. I was told the stuffed shrimp were jumbo shrimp, the waitress said 3-5 oz shrimp with 2oz of crab meat. They were very average size shrimp with 1/2-1 oz crab meat. Our main courses took forever to come out, probably more than 40 minutes, and my steak was overcooked. I sent it back, and just asked it be removed from the bill as I didn't want to wait another 40 minutes, and have my wife sit and watch me eat after she finishes her meal. She had the chesapeake pasta which was not bad and had a generous amount of seafood, but it was bland, boring and disappointing. The tomato was the only flavor. A little salt and pepper (which was not offered), or old bay would have gone a long way. Not a huge deal but again for the type of restaurant this place is trying to be and the price they charge their chefs should be seasoning the food. The one thing that was phenomenal was the cream of crab soup. I was offered a bowl when the manager came to apologize about my steak which definitely saved the night. He also boxed up my steak and shrimp and just let us take it home which was also great. They also add a service fee, our total bill for one meal, an appetizer, dessert, and drinks was over $200 and I tipped extra because I was unclear how much of the $30 service fee went to the waitress. This place felt like fine dining for people who don't really know what fine dining is. For the price compared to quality I would not be back.

C
Candice Barnett

I've previously been here for lunch and a private event, both great experiences. I made reservations for 12:30 Sunday brunch for 5, arrived early and checked in. Told it would be just a few minutes as the table is prepared. The door area becomes crowded, as new parties arrive and are seated. At 12:35, tired of being jostled due to the growing crowd (and fire hazard) I asked again when my table would be ready. Again, told just a few minutes more, like 5. Terrible customer service and the host did a poor job of crowd management. I left and won't be back.

M
Maryann Sterin

We were very disappointed with our first visit due to uncooked shrimp and uncooked Brussel sprouts in the Chesapeake Pasta Dish. Also at our table of 4 we were given only 6 crackers to share the crabmeat dip appetizer. Portions were extremely small on the halibut special for the day. The prices we would consider high for the lack of quality and portion.

W
Wyatt Yokum

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing. Coming from the hospitality industry, I understand that busy nights happen and I don’t believe this was the server’s fault. It took about 20 minutes for our server to come to the table just to take our drink order, and then another 20 minutes before the drinks arrived. The food itself was good overall, but my dish was overcooked. I chose to eat it anyway because, given the delays, I was concerned about how long it would take to have it remade. The only apology we received was from our server, not from a manager, which is where this should have been addressed. The bill was also not adjusted, which was disappointing given the circumstances for the long wait time for everything. While the ambience was great, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience based on the service we received. From an industry perspective, this was a management issue related to scheduling and having the appropriate number of staff on the floor. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues moving forward.
