I got a pork rib slab combo. Some for now, some for later. The ribs are tender and tasty. Sauce is balanced with the right amount of heat. Coleslaw could use some more mayo but all in all really good dinner. I found me a bbq place. I will be back ☺🍖

I ordered the hot link dinner with double beans and mild sauce. The food was fantastic! The sauce was fantastic and blended with the links perfectly and the beans were in a thick sauce that had pieces of barbeque meat in it. The only thing missing is a cold, cold beer!

BEST BBQ ever. We have known JB for 43 years. The meet falls off the bone. Really does. No joke. Their naked beens and potatoes salad is superb. Also, their prices is extremely affordable.

Excellent food. My husband said he wouldn't have to go to any other BBQ spot, and he's very finicky. The amount of food is ample. Family owned for over 20 years. You won't be disappointed.

Jay Bee's is delicious! I always order the pork ribs, but all the meat there is good. Everyone that we have taken there love the food. It's just a small building with 2 patio metal tables outside. What can I say, this BBQ joint is amazingly delicious. I ordered two family dinners and a pound of Brisket and 1/2 pound of Texas sausage with sides of beans and potato salad both delicious; but the beans wowsers are off the hook delicious. BBQ meats we had pork ribs and beef both tender and perfectly smoked and glazed. I highly recommend Jay Bee's, you will not be disappointed. I need to return and try the pulled pork sandwich.

I had the best BBQ beef sandwich ever and the collard greens are really very good. I went there because I just saw an episode of the show diners drive-ins and dives that they filmed there in 2007. Yum very good.

Definitely wanna come here when you want some authentic barbecue from Memphis this place is great. It’s hidden but it’s worth looking for be careful coming in here cause there’s a lot of traffic and you are gonna wait so I suggest you call your order. You’ll definitely love it.

The food was good. I went late so they were out of some things. I actually wanted to try the chicken sausage but they were out. So I ended up with chicken. Customer service was rather interesting 🤔. Nevertheless it worked out although I started to leave. In my work I have to be more understanding of people. I will check them out again. Glad to see they are still open. I had not been to this place since the mid 80's.

Amazing good ribs, if you are in the area stop by, but do not make it a destination, not in a very safe area. Highly recommended, while the looks are deceiving, this place is in fact a gastro cultural land mark.

Ok, I have. Eaten a lot of barbecue in my life. But this little hole in the wall location is consistent with their bbq. The Meat falls right off the bones and it's grilled not baked BBQ. I wasn't a fan of the chicken links , however the beef links had me coming back two days straight. Now here is the only Challenge, They may not have links or special items because they have sold out. I've always loved Jay Bee's Bar B Que since I was younger. Now their place is a little ways out there but let me tell you, their is no scrimping on bar b que. I tried two different places closer to home. And on my third day yes folks I had bar b que three days in a row... So on my third day I found myself at my most beloved Bar B Que place Jay Bee's. We'll just put it this way I ordered a plate for myself and my pooch, and whilst I sat in my car because it was a rainy day I thought maybe my guy would like a plate. So I quick messaged him and found myself back inside ordering another. Then the father of one of my children called me proclaiming he was starving, so here I was inside again purchasing another plate. Now the pricing is not bad at all so I didn't mind.PLUS THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD AND I WAS SO HAPPY TO FINALLY HAVE THE BAR B QUE OF MY DREAMS THAT I WANTED TO SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE. and that's what I'm doing here. 💯😁💋💥👍👍👍Thee best JAY BEE'S thanks for restoring my faith in good bar b que.

Delicious!!! Was visiting CA for the first time and wanted some down home BBQ. I went to another joint in Compton, but the place was closed and someone recommended this place. Got beef ribs, chicken, potato salad and macaroni salad and it did not disappoint! I will definitely go again when back in CA.

I can't tell you how many times I passed by this spot on the bus on my way up to Los Angeles. Finally had a chance to try it today. I called ahead to order and the person taking my order was very friendly. She answered my questions and we ordered two dinners, one rib tips with baked beans and potato salad and one pork shoulder with macaroni salad and baked beans. When we got to the place, we had to do a couple of u-turns to get to the spot and only one customer was allowed in at a time. We waited 5 minutes and our orders were ready for pickup. As you can see from our picture, the portions were very generous. The baked beans were tangy and had a little kid. I got the medium sauce on the shoulder and it was nice, a little more milder than I thought. Might try hot next time. The macaroni salad was creamy and savory! I prefer that over the sweeter potato salad. The rib tips were so smoky and fell off the bone. The shoulder was fairly fatty but still good. Probably would go with the rib tips next time or try some of the ribs.

The sauce keeps me going back. Update: The owner of JAy Bees passed away,, young Curtis Williams. I went to patronize this place in his honor. The ribs were so juicy and falling off of the bone good. The brisket sandwich was tender and stuffed. I’m gonna Miss Curtis!

It was a wait of about 10-15 minutes, but it was so worth it. The Memphis smoky sauce was so delicious. I found out about this spot on the Food Network's Triple D, and have been back more than once. I have and still recommend their barbeque.

I've been coming to Jaybee's barbecue since I came to California in 1979 off and on . But from 1996 to date, I frequent there at least twice per month . I always get the chopped barbecue beef sandwich. However, their barbecue sauce is amazing but hot does mean hot medium does mean medium hot mild it's always my safe bet. The food is delicious and it's plentiful.

Food is pretty good. Got the beef ribs with two small side, though the ribs weren't that tender. Hopefully its service can improve, as they were kind of stingy with napkins and utensils as we asked them for more when they only put two napkins and forks in the bag for a group of three. Though I'll probably come back to try their pork ribs hoping they're a bit more tender to go with their BBQ sauce, that I found to be not overly sweet.

We haven't been to Jay Bee's in a while. A very nice woman took my order and an equally nice man gave me my food and thanked me. Picked up a Beef Sandwich and a Pulled Pork Sandwich -- both had a lot of succulent meat for a reasonable price. Also got the greens, baked beans, and sweet potato pie. The greens were a bit less seasoned than I recall, but were very tender. The beans more than made up for that (they're so good!) and the pie was quite a treat. We won't let as much time go by before our next visit!

Tri Tip steak was tender and delicious. The BBQ sauce was tangy with a little bite to it. Outstanding. Great food and Awesome customer service.

They can leave you on hold on , over the phone too long While having you listen to then take other orders. Very unprofessional behavior. And they run out of chicken sandwiches a lot. However the ribs are good. But they can put too many very small bones in your order. When thar size of the bone should actually be a bonus piece . It cost too much to be cutting corners on small end pieces to count as your really size rib bone. It should Not be counted into your 5 bones, it should actually be a bonus 6th bone. Which would make better customer service.

Ok the food is delicious but the cashier yesterday gave out bad customer service! I guess something was going wrong with the cash register to where the cashier was cancelling and voiding orders, so when I ordered my food the order never made it to the back. Mind you I eat here quite often and I know to stay close to hear my number. I was number 79 and they were on number 83 so I'm wondering where is my food and why haven't I been called. The cashier tells me that I ordered a long time ago and that they don't give out free food! I asked to speak with a manager and she tells me to come back in morning at 11. Mind you I just paid for a combination plate that came out to $18.00. I wasn't going to leave without my money back or my food. She was quite rude and I felt like she thought I was lieing about ordering my food. The fact that she wasn't trying to help was the problem and showed no care for me having my two babies with me as well. Yes I got upset but the cook in the back fixed my ordered and I left. I'm not sure what happened to my ticket in the back concerning my order. Cashier was NOT GOOD! apology was not accepted because I hate bad customer service. Black owned business at that! Manager hire another cashier plz! I will fill out an app myself....I was not satisfied.

Small spot. I tried the beef rib and pork shoulder. There wasn't a lot of meat on the rib and there was too much sauce for my liking. I will be back to try the sausage with the sauce on the side.

My food is always good when coming here. Today the rib tips had a undone porky spoiled taste. I threw the whole plate out. It wasn't the whole plate. But I did not want to get sick especially off of pork. I will be back but extra careful about what I order.

Writing a review is like a teachable moment, I hope for the business. On Thursday, August 3, 2023, I went to Jay Bee's for barbecue I was craving. I ordered the beef rib dinner, rib tips, etc., and ended up spending over $47.00. The meat was sooooo tough, and chewy! So much that I could not eat it, and ended up putting both in the trash. This food was suppose to last me through the weekend! I will say this, the customer service was good!

I might have came by on a bad day or a slow day. Might have possibly been given old meat but my brisket was a bit tough. I'm use to eating brisket that shreds as I'm eating it so I can't really give a great opinion on how brisket should be. I also read other reviews and many have said that the meat quality is great but I wasn't so much of a fan. Definitely good but I sadly won't return.

I ordered their two entree consisting of two ribs and brisket at $19 bucks and um the hot barbecue sauce was great on the rib and brisket but it had a funky tomato flavor aftertaste that was taking the excitement out of my head. The brisket was okay nice and tender and plentiful. It was oily all over. But I didn’t mind that. The two ribs hardly had any meat at all. The potato salad was quite good. The macaroni salad was missing something. The baked beans were exceptional. The sliced bread was good but not toasted just a slice of bread but I didn’t eat mine. I would come again yes, but now that I know what I’m dealing with in terms of options I would order their brisket and raise the heat some more on the extra hot bbq sauce and ask for more napkins before leaving.

There is a reason for this three please read. The ribs are fantastic beef and pork they deserve a five, but what makes me give this wonderful place a three is the potato salad and the coleslaw. I tried the potato salad to find out it had a reputation of being bad and today I tried the cold slaw and it was just salad. I do plan to try this place again but beware of those sides. Try out those ribs talk to you soon enjoy

Well it was conveniently close so I decided to give it a try,not even on my top 10 bbq joints I'm California, different standards here for bbq it tasted like Chile colorado to much and sadly I enjoyed the coleslaw and macaroni salad way more than the meat options, the links were decent but the pork was not even remotely on point, the service was great and fast the portions plenty but not really appetizing won't be coming back, next time I'll stick with the taco truck across the street if in the area again.

Customer services was excellent. Food looked amazing. Taste bland lack flavor/seasoning. Taste like bbq sauce out the bottle no flavor at all. Beans were under cooked. Hotlink Taste like it was oven cooked not on the grill. Brisket had a lot of fat and no flavor just bbq sauce. Honestly i could have just cooked my own food at home. This was a good place to get a lunch or dinner Bar-b-Q meal for a decent price. Now the prices are outrageous and you get less food. The crowd that you would see there has died down. This should signal to them that something is either wrong with food or the prices is too high. I hope they take inventory and make some adjustments. I would hate to see them close. In the meantime I will be going to Carson or Gardena to get my BBQ. I will still go there from time to time but not like I use to. Good luck to them.

I used to go here alot, food is very good. But the service is terrible, they will close the door on you if they are closing, even if your there before closing. I would recommend this place to anyone before my last visit. Faced rude, unprofessionalism, attitudes and seriously just not right. I put up with the rude behavior because the food was good. No more. The brisket is tough and chewy, the sides are nothing to be excited about I'm pretty sure they are store bought. The pulled pork is good and the links are just ok. You must be specific about how you want your food or they will just do it the way they want. The people are nice but they could improve on the product for sure.

Service was horrible. I had to keep reminding the guy behind the bullet proof glass of the items that were missing from my order. Eventually he took my receipt away, even though they still owed me sides for part of my order. Not sure if it's under new ownership, but the Bbq was nothing to write home about. I got pork shoulder which was filled with lots of fat bits (large fat bits) potato Mac and baked beans. The sides we just ok. It's been about 7-8 years since I was here last and remember it being much better. Would not recommend and won't be back.

I bought two hot link sandwiches today. The links were old and made me and my husband sick. I call Jay Bees and spoke to Jeanette, who appeared to be nice. She relayed my message to the cook who said the meat was not old. I have had link sandwiches there before and I know the difference between old meat and freshly cooked meat. They should not sell people old meat. I am going to continue to try and reach the owner.

The Lady answering the phone needs to learn Customer service and how to talk to people. I called to place an order and was cut off mid way through sentence and told to hurry up since she had a customer in front of her at the window. Usually when I call other restaurants I'm told to please hold if they are busy. Lol. I ended up forgetting a few items due to me being rushed. I get to the restaurant and lady tells me to wait outside and it's only one person in at a time. I completely understood with all the restrictions due to covid. While waiting in the car she allows a man inside while someone was already inside. I was confused but waited patiently without a problem. I have been coming here a while and the last time I came, the same lady was being nasty nice to the woman before me. I will not take away the fact that most of the times I have eaten here the food is always good, but I refuse to spend my money somewhere where the customer service is horrible. Good food or not you can't just talk to people any kind of way. It's okay to be kind and friendly. If you are having a bad day, stay or go home. Since Bloodsoes is closer to me, I'll save my gas and go there instead. Smh

I have frequented this place the past month and a half, as of this review 4 times to be exact. I had the link sandwich which unexpectedly came on a hamburger bun heavily coated in bbq sauce. It was a good sandwich (would much rather prefer a hotdog bun) but I advise you to eat it right away otherwise it will get soggy. From there I tried the chicken breast sandwich since they said they do t have hotdog buns. Again not a bad sandwich id give it a 3/5 because the bbq aside was pretty much the flavor. Finally the reason for the review, this last visit I decide to get beef ribs and I would have to say I was upmost disappointed. They were luke warm and the little bit of meat that it had was very tough. Great bbq sauce however I feel like they light use it to overcompensate for areas they lack in.

Never again! The food tasted like it was old, and it was tough to chew. It must have a new owner, I patronized them in the past and the food was never that nasty. WOW! I ordered rib tips dinner for $14.00 and a chicken sandwich. It is really hard to dry out chicken. My bill totaled $24.00 and that was a waste of money.

Honestly just not that good. Got a riblets and brisket plate with potato salad and beans. The meat was well seasoned and sauced, I'll give them that. But the meat was really damn chewy and half if it was fat jelly. All of it kinda stopped together into a pork beef slop plate that tasted alright if I'm being honest. The place itself is also a mess, rundown places often have good food, but not this place. Condemned seating area, only 1 person in allowed at a time and no extra sauces even for purchase. Very wierd rules for food that wasn't really worth it. Never even bothered to try the potato salad or beans because the food just made me not really interested in eating lunch anymore.

Good BBQ places are few and far between. The beef ribs were large, unlike most places, 5 stars for the size. What makes it 2 stars? Asked for mild sauce but it was coated with hot. The actual meat on the ribs was tough. The beans tasted like Van De Camps pork and beans you get out of a can. The macaroni was unremarkable, no flavor. The prices are substantially higher than the menu's for Jay Bee's found online. I would stress substantially higher. They also no longer carry corn bread nor Mac and Cheese.

I wish I had taken a picture of the food. But I was so disgusted by it I just threw it away. The meat was thoroughly drowning barbecue sauce which is ordinarily good but most places don't give you that much unless you trying to hide something it was burnt hard and crispy and I had ribs. The beans with floating in so much fluid that it ripped all the mayonnaise after macaroni salad. My entire trailer was filled with a liquid from the beans. I don't know about anybody else but when I eat my food I like it to be separate not all mixed together like slop and that's what I felt like I had when I opened up my food container after purchasing it. I was really mad cuz I got a really good reviews from that place from people in the neighborhood. But you don't know until you try it for yourself.

Crap service. Made an order by phone that was to be ready ‘in 5 minutes’. I get there in 10 minutes and have to wait another 15 minutes (order wasn’t even PREPPED). Dude who pulls in at the same time I did makes an order at window and gets his order before me. I leave realizing I made an order by phone that went from being ready ‘in 5 minutes’ to 30 minutes…and paid $20 for 3 ribs and 3 links…LMAO. NEVER AGAIN

I waited 30 for my food. The customers who came in before me and after me both got quick and speedy service. After waiting for a half hour, i finally got my food and it wasnt even luke warm. It was COLD and the pound and a half of brisket was ALL fatty pieces and no meat. It looked like they served me the fat trimmings. It was not even edible.

The food was close to inedible. Ribs tips were tough and hard to chew. I ordered a chicken link and they gave me a sandwich, the bread was hard and stale. The worst sauce ever. I will not go back.

I recently moved to the area from Alabama. I’ve driven by this place multiple times and I honestly thought it was just an old rundown abandoned building. I was surprised when it showed up in my google search for BBQ. I Tried the beef ribs. No smoke flavor to them and the membrane was still present on the ribs which is BBQ 101. The ribs were also smothered in a runny vinegar based bbq sauce. This is definitely not Southern BBQ. It just wasn’t very good. Save your money.

This was my first time ordering food from this restaurant. I ordered a half chicken, half of slab of pork/beef ribs, and a small spaghetti. The pork and beef ribs were dry, tough, flavorless, and was either overcooked, and/or reheated. The meat in the spaghetti was dry and tough also. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food, and I will not be returning.

Food doesn't taste good anymore. Have been coming since the 90s and before meat would fall off ribs and full of flavor. Now meat is tough and no flavor on meat except for sauce which is watered down. And no bread so disappointed drove an hour will not be coming back.

Yesterday, I bought 2 plates. 2 meat combos. The beef ribs, the chicken, the chicken links and beef links were not smoked at all. None of the meat was seasoned. I use to come here sometimes. It was never this bad. I think they are cutting corners. How you have a smoker but the meats dont taste smoked. We want the smoke!!! And the sides are still garbage. I will never come here again. They lost me as a customer.

This place is horrible… if you want cold food, this is the place to go. You want poor service? This is the place to go. You want the staff to talk to you crazy? You definitely should go here. This is the absolute worst establishment. I called to make a phone order for my lunch. I was told to hold it call back in a min. I decided to hold. While holding i over heard the woman who answered the phone cussing people out in the background. Then I was hung up on. When I called back I was told “how can I help you, we have everything and I’m very busy.” I started to speak my order. I asked for brisket, beans and macaroni. I was then told macaroni isn’t sold even though it’s on the menu. Then the woman told me to come in or call back because she’s busy. And hung up on me. How rude! The entire purpose of me calling ahead is to not waste my lunch hour waiting for the food to be prepared. You need to truly work on your customer service. Cussing out customers, hanging up on customers is completely unacceptable.

They need to let me have this corner so I can provide customers with amazing food and a great customer service experience. I was thrown out before I could ask for a menu. That bag lady said, one at a time, wait out side. I order 3 -- 2 meat combos ribtips, brisket, hot link and chicken nothing had the great smoked taste as before no smoke ring...the ribs and brisket were a hard chew and received chicken sausage instead of bbq chicken the sauce was bland bbq beans tasted like Bushes bake beans from a can the tater salad tasted like the one you find in the supermarket. and waited 1 1/2 hours for my order and was not informed that the wait was that long...... I should've realized that something was driffent by just the condition of the outside of the building its run-down dosen't seem to be maintained at all ! It's makes me sad to leave such a review as this but I was so disappointed because like I said. THIS WAS THE SPOT FOR GREAT BBQ !!! so long jay bee's and good luck in the future.

Friday June 23,2023 I bought a whole slab of pork ribs that tasted like they were past 1 week old. I'm a barbecuer. I will never go back. Brisket was delicious.

I’m thoroughly convinced that there’s no good bar b que places in Los Angeles. This was one of the worst I’ve had. Way too much sauce, I guess to cover up the horrible flavor of the chicken, links and rib tips. The take out container was filled with sauce to the point it leaked out the container. I would not recommend this place at all!!!

Because it was on diners,drive ins, and dives I wanted to go. Big mistake. Service is bad food is horrible. Ordered pork and beef ribs both were flavorless and dry. Pork ribs must have been from last week. Everything is covered in a glorified ketchup sauce. Tons of signs posted that make it obvious they don’t care about customer service. Lady that took my order was polite. Guy packaging food was rude as hell. Stay away from this place at all costs

Took a friend to Jay Bees. They ordered a beef link sandwich. It was one link split in half on white bread. They embarrassed me taking someone else there. Today was awful. They are usually pretty good. Today they missed on all cylinders.

First off i will never come back there. Umm dont yall know yall been having that same traffic cone sitting up top of your building since Martin Luther Kings Dream? Yall sign thats supposed to say jay bees is disabled and torn and torn to shreds. Its traffic cones in your sitting area indicating I won't ever sit over there because I may get hit by somebody's car or food4 less basket. Yall still have a letter B so ysll just dont care i see. Look, after a careful evaluation from myself. I've come to a conclusion, yall food is day old, yall dont wash them dishes properly, yall can't cook,food nasty, outside nasty, yall all just straight up nasty. And to the lady who work in the front, you mean as hell. Make sure you let the people in the back know, you tucked that tip my husband gave you for sympathy, in your pocket so you didn't have to share. And to the big guy in the back, I saw you bite that hotlink and lick your fingers while you was fixing that customers plate. Idc how you feel, im not about to argue with yall and get beat up. I got a bad hip and a missing tooth already 🙄

I haven't been to Jay Bee's in DECADES. I WON'T BE VISITING FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DECADES I HAVE LEFT ON EARTH! I visited it Thanksgiving eve and got a great rib dinner. It was FRESH and tasty - medium sauce. Today post Thanksgiving I got the same dinner along with a whole chicken. But, THIS time the rib dinner was HORRIBLE. The meat was 40% > of the meat was HARD and unchewable. And, they put the WRONG sauce on it, I asked for MEDIUM, I got the VERY hot one! No cool! So, I gave them a call and the lady didn't ask me to "hold" she just started talking to whoever and I stayed on the phone a few minutes and she NEVER got back to me. I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED! I always want to support small Black businesses, but, sometimes THEY take advantage of it! I HOPE the chicken is at least good! Obviously it's a 50/50 chance of getting a good dinner from them! My advice: DON'T GO!

Absolutely terrible there’s a lady a dark skin older lady. She’s rude. She seems to be intoxicated a lot of the times she’s very disrespectful and unfortunately, I cannot support this black business any longer. The portions have gotten smaller. The beans they give you really small portions and it’s very disappointing that they don’t value your money enough to treat you with respect so this is another black owned. Business I no longer will be attending or will be supporting rather.

Im a cook myself and not too brag but my ribs are way better then theres i should have read reviews before coming here im all for supporting black Business but im sorry the ribs did taste old and the sauce was tasting off is the best way i can put it the potato salad was gross the bake beans was old. I personally would not feed my dog these ribs However the guy who took my order was nice and polite so 5 stats for service 1 star for food. I hope this place changes and get better we need good bbq out here in LA smh

Yesterday was my birthday, WRONG PLACE TO GO, my son picked BBQ for lunch. They served us OLD ribs from, I don't know how many days ago, I wouldn't serve a homeless person what we got. DRY & OLD, I was too tired by the time I realized, $34 down the drain. I purchased a rack & purposely ordered sauce on the side, the top layer was semi-okay but dry, but the bottom was terrible. And they serve smaller portions too. The side eye ole Bubba, who gave me the ribs, was devilish & I'm upset I didn't check the bag then. Please do a sampling before you exit & and always sauce on the side so you see what you're being served.

The food is old my meat was over cooked and tasted like it was reheated. The beans were no good and the Mac salad was old as well. It leaves a nasty after taste. I would not recommend this place to no one. The food is expensive and after 2 bites you throw it away . Hands down the nasty place to eat in LA.

UPDATED: 07/21/2021 I went there today and I must say quality is slowly going downhill. I ordered a half slab of pork ribs a beef link a chicken link, baked beans and a side of greens so I'm only going to focus on the ribs which just seemed old but for the $33 I spent it also came along with a hair definitely my last time going. Far from the best but definitely better that all the surrounding competition
