Opinions de Zhengyalov Hatz Glendale
January 2025: Stopped by for lunch and ordered the zhengyalov sandwich, the meat pie and the baklava. I enjoyed everything. The zhengyalov was very interesting. A very nice combo of herbs wrapped in a warm flatbread. The beef pie was tasty. Came with a lemon 🍋 wedge. For dessert, the baklava tasted fresh and not super sweet (which I liked). Service was okay.
A very cozy and stylish spot with authentic Armenian vibes! The Zhengyalov Hats is incredibly juicy and flavorful— it’s probably the only herb-based meal that feels just as hearty and nutritious as a meat dish. Their Pakhlava and Armenian coffee are also excellent. Highly recommended!
Absolutely love this place. It’s so cute and feels like home like being in Armenia. The food is made with so much heart that it feels like medicine for the body. You can truly feel the kind energy of the people cooking. Wishing them continued success!
What a lovely surprise! Owner was very delightful and kind. Zhengyalov was fresh and delicious...my first time trying it. They also have Saporini Pear Soda, an Armenian drink. Definitely a place to come and have a bite to eat. Atmosphere was so comfortable with 1930s music playing in the background. I really enjoyed it all!
We liked the lahmajun and the Zhengyalov Hatz! The coffee was great as well. The space was very nice and cozy, but it was way too hot so we wanted to leave quickly. We had our coffee in their little patio and we liked it. The staff were nice and kind and overall we liked our experience and we will go back!
The food is so delicious. I didn't know they bake a lamajun, or adjarakan khachapuri, or serve guests with the tea, coffee and yummy baklava. By the way, their lamajun it's our favorite now. We are visiting them every two days now 🫠🫶
My favorite type of restaurant. The menu is short and sweet, meaning that have perfected their craft and it makes your selection easy. The Zhengyalov Hatz is a must try, so fresh and light and satisfying. The pork shawarma was a bit dry, but tasted good. The interior was beautifully decorated in traditional Armenian decor. Staff are polite and food comes out fast.
While seemingly a modest hole in the wall, this is a michellin-rated bake shop renowned for its namesake Armenian pies, filled with an unbelievably complex and dense mixture of at least 12 chopped herbs and greens...dill, sorrel, beet leaves, spinach, chervil, cilantro, scallions, chard, purslane, tarragon, and dandelion greens. Each herb contributes distinct flavor characteristics but the ratio to achieve a balance of acidity/tangy. sweetness, and aromatic complexity is reportedly very hard to get right . The dough , sometimes described as translucently thin but crisp, tender, bouncy and flavorful, somehow maintains structural integrity and moisture control. The overall effect of the pie is super 🔥
I drive here whenever I have the chance, from Beverly Hills to Glendale. About fifty minutes each way just to try these amazing Zhengyalov hats. I had never tried them, but somebody recommended them, and I was curious. The taste of the hatz is beyond description, and they do it the moment you order it. It is obviously a family business, as I could see different generations around. The lady in front was so sweet and concerned, I felt I was at home with grandma. Ideal for vegans, and if you are not, they have excellent Shawarmas. The tea, the coffee, the yogurt drinks, even the lemonades are special. Hope they succeed big time and open others like this one closer to my place, lol.
First time here! My Lebanese Armenian bestie did the ordering. We had the OG veggie zhengyalov wraps hot off the griddle, lightly toasted and filled with greens. We drank a yoghurt based drinks with fresh herbs and followed that with fresh mint tea and delicious baklava. Can't wait to go back!!
Thought I knew what a hat was. Boy was I wrong. My family loved this restaurant and its namesake, zhengylav hatz. However, the real stars were the gorgeous, steaming pots of tea. At the bottom of the "cinnamon and nuts" tea pot is a delicious, sweet, candied something that you're probably not supposed to eat (but tastes really good!). 5 stars for food, service, vibes, removing my cultural cataracts, and for candied secrets. However, I will have to give 0 stars because there were no hats.
My favorite Armenian vegetarian food! This place has excellent service and nice ambience where you can enjoy delicious zhengyalov hats made fresh to order.
How have I never heard of this place before? Their signature dish, the zhengyalov hatz ($7.99), is vegan and full of flavors. I wouldn't say it's anything to write home about, but for the price point, it definitely has its merits. Check this place out if you're vegan and need something quick and cheap to fill you up. This price point is unbeatable these days.
Wow! I've never eaten much Armenian food, but I figured heck, why not? Was not disappointed! I got their namesake, and LOVE IT! All those herbs chopped up and wrapped up? On top of that, the mint and thyme tea? Yeah... I was sort of suffering some weird thing where I kept having to clear my throat. Tons of "ahems" and other old people noises 👴🏻. But just a bite of that Zhengyalov Hatz, and honestly I was healed! Some of the best food, and quite healthy! For sure, I'm coming back, and I'm bringing friends!
Such a charming spot that makes you wish you could sit there and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with friends or family. During my visit, I noticed a family savoring their Zengyalov, accompanied by stunning teapots that added to the inviting atmosphere. The customer service was truly exceptional—attentive and welcoming, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. As for the Zengyalov itself, I found the flavors delightful and refreshing; it was a new culinary adventure for me. However, I did notice a slight bitter aftertaste, which might have been from the parsley or dill used in the filling. Overall, I found the dish quite enjoyable and definitely worth the hype. That said, it seemed simple enough to recreate at home, especially since you can easily find the dough or bread at a nearby Armenian market. I look forward to returning and trying more dishes from their menu!

Hard to pronounce, uniquely delicious. Pretty much everything on the menu that involves bread is baked to order.

This is lovely. Not fat, no cheese, super thin dough wrapper. Somewhat lemony or is it sumac?? And Herby - I could taste dill parsley and cilantro, but the blend is so subtle spinach-y... Just great. I didn't stay in to check service or the atmosphere - the place looks nice and everyone I encountered was very nice
Visited this place when in LA to see my relatives. As usual - they propose an authentic Armenian restaurant. We go to Zhengyalov Hatz and it was a great choice. Top notch service with super friendly staff. Amazing flat grams and meat. Everything was fresh and delicious. Tea with paxlava to wrap up the amazing meal was great. Will definitely be back.
Zhangyalov Hats is so delicious, I just wished they give a piece of butter with it. Also Ajarakan is good. Like their teas , especially cinnamon but prefer the nut on the side than in the tea . Cozy place , very good atmosphere. And the music makes you feel you are in Armenia. Love this place !
Very interesting food, but personally didn't like it too much. That's my personal opinion. Objectively the food was very well prepared with care and attention. The presentation was good. Service was fine and the restourant look cool.
This place was a whole vibe… a travel experience. The traditional Flat bread with 7 different herbs was great, I just wish we had a dip or condiment to pair it with. Beautiful baklava and loved the open kitchen view to the ladies making the flat bead.

Simple, yet satisfying! Also, it’s vegan! I was still hungry afterwards though. The paxlava dessert was not my favorite. I’ve definitely had much better elsewhere.
Really cute spot in downtown Glendale. We came specifically for the zhengalov hatz because I had it before in Las Vegas and have been hankering for them ever since. I liked the one here (even though it was slightly different from the one in LV) but it needed a touch more salt, and perhaps, a lemon wedge served along side would be awesome. Overall, a good experience especially if you're craving one.
I recently swung by Zhengyalov Hatz on Broadway in Glendale and was blown away by their herb-packed flatbread. It’s like a savory, chewy embrace of at least a dozen greens—spinach, beet leaves, scallions—all wrapped in pillowy dough and grilled to perfection . Watching the bakers hand-stuff each piece right there behind the counter adds such charm and authenticity (). The atmosphere is clean, cozy, and relaxed—no fuss, just good food . The herb flatbread hits that sweet spot between light and hearty; one was enough for a solid snack, but two felt like a proper meal . Plus, the pakhlava dessert and tangy yogurt drink are great finishing touches . Why not five stars? The menu is small, so if you’re with someone craving variety, this might feel limiting. And the herby intensity—while addictive—might be too much for folks not used to bold, green flavors (cilantro skeptics, beware) . Final verdict: Fresh, honest, and delicious—perfect if you love greens and simple, soulful eats. Just don’t expect a full-blown menu or mild flavors, and you’ll love it.
I’m really sad to write this review, but I want to share my experience so others are careful. I recently ate lahmajoun from this cafe, and a few hours later I started feeling very sick. I developed strong stomach pain, high fever, vomiting, and body aches. It got so bad that my family had to take me to the emergency room, where I was treated for food poisoning. I understand that mistakes can happen, but food safety is very important. This was a very scary and painful experience for me. I hope the cafe takes this seriously and reviews their food handling and hygiene to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Please be careful and make sure food is fresh and properly prepared.
