Good experience here! We loved sitting on the patio and the pub area looked fun too. The staff was friendly, the service was smooth, and everything was well taken care of. Definitely a place I’d recommend and would come back to.”
I really enjoyed the cottage pie and pecan ball, both were excellent. The charcuterie didn't have as much cheese as we were expecting and we didn't like the crackers but it was good on the bread. I wouldn't order that appetizer again. The layout is very unique. The service was good. I would recommend going here.
Beautiful retro place with very good quality food and extraordinary service. Loved the interior decor! The portion size was just about right for one person.
We held our small wedding dinner at Hartwood Restaurant and Whispers Pub and had a GREAT time! Everyone commented on how delicious the food was and how cozy the cafe was. The chefs and staff are very understanding when it comes to dietary needs and allergies. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone was fed and included. Our experience as a whole was fantastic and it was everything we wanted for our special day!
A place to come back to! I was surprised by the quality, the mushrooms and asparagus risotto was excellent. Delicious ice cream is definitely to share (unless you can devour huge amounts of it). The place is rather cozy, still feels like a house ;)
We made reservations for 6:00p on Vday and we were seated right on time. The staff is very friendly, highly knowledgeable about the menu, efficient, and stops as needed but not too much. The restaurant has great ambiance with lamps and candles on the tables and it’s very well decorated. It is VERY clean and I am pretty picky about that. The food is delicious and I’d even venture to say it’s the best meal I’ve had out in years. I am gluten free and chose this restaurant because there are many menu options that are gf including dessert. I would highly recommend.
This is a very beautiful place with a rich history. If you are looking for somewhere to host an event, they have catering options. Or if you're looking for a nice place for a date idea, this is your place. Food is excellent here, and their seasonal beers are great.
Atmosphere inside and outside is amazing! Great seating and lots of space. The waiters and waitresses here are also phenomenal and go above and beyond to make sure you’re happy with your dinner. Everything I had was delicious!
Had my bridal shower here last weekend. The room is beautiful, the food and wait staff were great, and the event coordinator Josh was very easy to work with. Highly recommend!
This was our first visit, but it definitely will not be our last. It was a true dining experience. I had the veal braciole which was a special. It was very good. My wife had their filet which was excellent. The fried goat cheese was a perfect appetizer. Our server was also excellent. In fact, all of the servers that I noticed were very attentive to their guests. We sat outside in their covered patio which is a very nice space and it contributed to our enjoyment.
Our server Alexis did a fantastic job. From the moment we walked in, the hostess couldn't be more accommodating. It was delicious as usual. Looking forward to our next trip back.
We have reservations every year here during the Christmas season. 🎄 It is always decorated and so festive with amazing staff! The day we visited the restaurant encountered a maintenance shut down earlier in the evening, but still managed to accommodate all of their reservations. While I didn't take any pictures of the food, they had a festive poinsettia drink. Favorite dish is the filet, favorite dessert is the pecan ball.
The perfect date night restaurant. The atmosphere was phenomenal. My wife and I sat in the library dining room, which had a beautiful fireplace. There were some very quaint private tables that overlooked the dining room, I will be thinking about reserving one of those next time! Dinner wasn't be cheap, but you will not be disappointed! It's not outrageously priced though either. The food was incredible! They have a nice beer and wine selection. You won't be disappointed, this place is awesome!
Loved the ambience, food, service and the kindness here. Didn't get to try a lot due to scarcity of time, but the menu is exquisite and has a large variety of seafood, sandwiches that are curated with thought. Will visit again.
Fantastic venue. Our you youngest so getting married come August and we had wedding shower today. Absolutely 100 percent to staff a m d venue Hartwood restaurant
I've had the burger and the filet here, both meals were incredible. I couldn't see how anyone could have a bad experience here. Hidden gem around pittsbugh.
Quiet, upscale restaurant with a great food selection. Great selection of wines and liquors. The bar is is quiet and friendly. The cheese plate had a really good selection of cheeses and meats with homemade, smoked chorizo and patte'.
Beautiful establishment with amazing food choices! Great ‘adult’ dinner out or with older children.
It's more than a restaurant, it's an experience. The chef here is one of the best in the northeast and the hartwood is grateful to have him. Like most of Pittsburgh the staff is the friendliest and most welcoming . The atmosphere and overall ambience is fantastic. You'll never regret dining here
Every item we've ever tried is very good, from their soda bread to a perfectly cooked filet. Reasonable prices, a nice wine and terrific service make the Hartwood restaurant 10☆.
Christmas Dinner with coworkers and friends this evening. Appetizers, Main Course and Dessert (which I did skip because I was so full) were all delicious.
I seldom hand out five stars but they knocked it out of the park. Had a large family dinner. Jordan was awesome and did not leave us wanting. Food was exceptional. The dining area offered privacy and a home type atmosphere. Will be eating here again.
I brought my husband and our good friends, the waitress was excellent, food delicious my only complaint was the noise from the large party of 3 tables, should have put them in back room. It's never been that loud when my nursing classmates of 50 years have come several times. It won't deter us from coming back. We love this place!
First time here. Great food and service. We had an amazing table up a flight of stairs that was the only table there. Very secluded and private. I would definitely go back.
Great quality food, friendly staff, unique cozy environment. Sort of a hidden gem.
By far the best restaurant I have eaten at in Pittsburgh
Stayed in Pa for my nieces wedding ,we tried this place because they served goat cheeses from my new nephew-in- law’s family farm. I had goat the cheese ravioli with the most amazing cherries cooked in wine omg.. and I think it had pine nuts, it was in June, must be the summer menu didn’t see it on the menu when I looked it up today, all I know is it was one of the best meals I ever had. I live in Fl, can’t find anything like it anywhere!
One thing I “wish” they would change is that the wait staff would rotate. You rotate areas. Not give turns - you’re killing your help. I was a waitress a long time ago at the Duquesne club and Hilton. This doesn’t work ! Food is great. Treat your staff better
Hartwood is our go-to for birthdays and anniversaries. We have tried so much of the menu and have never had a bad dish. Our favorite appetizer is hands down the Shrimp Wontons. So much so that my husband has gotten 1 to share and 1 as his meal. The Cottage Pie and burgers are steller. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Love the bread on the table! Not enough restaurants still do that. We enjoy sitting in the pub area the most but the restaurant side is inviting and comfortable too. I like that they offer nice gluten free options for my family to enjoy. I recommend making a reservation.
This unique setting is calm and inviting. They have a bar, indoor seating (a lot), and outdoor seating. Reservations are available and likely needed nights and weekends. I bet it gets busy!! Lunch times are typically peaceful. Today’s experience was just like my first, 5 stars. My mom enjoys the restaurant at lunch. The servers are patient and kind and accommodating. The menu has gluten-free notations and the kitchen seems to be able to accommodate other allergies. The crispy fish sandwich and burgers and salmon couscous / or greens are delicious. Lamb burger was really good. Well mixed patty. Clam chowder was hot and not too salty according to mom. Portions are generous and prices are fair. Definitely a solid choice to consider!
Very lovely place! Service was excellent. My whole group was pleased with the food. Sandwiches all had a side of coleslaw which wasn't clear on menu, so I ordered a salad as my side. Coleslaw was fair but salad was excellent! Salmon perfectly done. But Pesto Salmon was just a little pesto mayonnaise drizzled on salmon.
We went last night meeting a friend after her saying that they had lots of good gluten-free options. It was amazing. They did an excellent job and have a variety of gluten-free. I got a burger and the bun didn't fall apart! They had fries too! My husband got the Crispy Fried Chicken which was a Crisp-Fried portion of a local farm amish chicken, along with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was also very good! The restaurant stagg were very helpful and watchful.
Me and my family went out during this weekend for Lobster Fest, and boy was it incredible! Stuffed Lobster was delicious! Our server handled everything professionally and it was quite the experience we never had. Outside patio was wonderful and conditions were fancy! My sons loved the Lobster Arancini and the maple coffee cakes were delicious! Have to give a big heart to hard-working staff team and even those behind the scenes too. The kids pointed out that some young blond guy with glasses and what seemed to be a towel was doing pretty neat tricks, outside the restaurant and inside of the entrance. He’s like a parkour master without breaking anything! 🤣 Definitely will return back to the pub another day!
I would like to thank Dana and the rest of the Hartwood Restaurant team for accommodating last minute reservations on Tuesday December 23rd so that we could celebrate our daughters birthday. We love this restaurant for the food, the atmosphere and the team. They always go above and beyond!
We've dined here a few times but wanted to write a review. The menu is eclectic and there are enough dishes so everyone was able find something- However, save room for their amazing Pecan Ball. Everything was delicious but what makes this place SO special is the phenomenal staff- especially Lexus and Iona. Both were professional, efficient, lovely and personable. Talking with them made our dining experience EVEN better - and it seems like all of the staff feel like family- which is the exact vibe that they give to their guests. Highly recommend
Love this repurposed library, carrying much of the atmosphere and theme forward. Interesting seating options within the main restaurant captures the intimacy of a library. Outdoor seating on the patio is wonderful also. Diverse menu offers something for everybody, including some good comfort food that will leave you wanting more.
We loved our food and Fall themed cocktails at the restaurant. The cottage pie lived up to the hype, it was delicious! The pot stickers and creme brûlée were also amazing. As noted from a few other reviews, the service staff were very nice but slow. There were long lulls in between the when out waitress came over. But it didn't damper our wonderful dining experience there and we'll be back for sure.
Everything’s here was excellent. I have the seafood trio app ( shrimp, poke and crab Louis, $15) and seared Scottish salmon with garlic aioli, roasted onion risotto and zucchini ratatouille ($24). Burgers and sandwiches about $15. Entrees $24 to &32. Good service, nice outdoor patio. It’s not high-end fine dining, nor trying to be that, but very good for its category. Casual. Recommended
The lamb burger is excellent and the desserts are amazing. Great service in a unique location.
Not inspired food but tasty. The goat cheese salad was very good. Dressings just okay.
Wonderful food .Our server was great. But it was so loud we had trouble hearing one and other
I see nothing special about the shrimp with crab in cream/ creole sauce. The shrimp were fine but nothing special was done. The creole sauce was tasteless and the dish wasn't warm . Risotto for most dishes as a side. Where's the variety and ability to select. It definitely make people feel full because the real main item doesn't. Our server was great and the restaurant was nicely decorated.
Dinner here for the first and last time. We had a few different things and all were very under seasoned and lower quality ingredients. Service was horrible and only saw waitress one time after ordering. We had to ask expeditor that was bringing our food for beverages/wine and bourbon. Lastly, had the peppermint ball ice cream. It was horrible and had a cheap old taste to the peppermint that was crushed and not to mention the cheap ice cream that had tons of air in it! Gave it 3 stars only be of ambiance! Should you tip the waiter if they don’t show up? I like now how the receipt says 18,20, and 22 percent gratuity now especially when people can’t do their jobs! Better options elsewhere!Best of luck! Ps… pics of the cottage pie!
I was not impressed. First, my friend asked about the specials and was told to look at the menu. I heard another server reviewing the specials with her table. When we asked about water we were told to pour it from the bottle. The server should have asked and poured the first glass. I ordered the filet steak and it was drenched in the balsamic sauce which had too much vinegar. My mashed potatoes were also in this sauce. There was also a lot of fat in the steak. My friend and I were there celebrating our May birthdays and 40 yrs of friendship. I had been to the restaurant before and had a good experience but this time I was very disappointed. Given the price of the meals I expected more from this restaurant. Likely will not recommend or go back.
Ok food was good, service was great. But, and this may be unpopular, but please stop allowing dogs. Like I don’t have pets and I’m eating so can we not just leave our dogs at home people? If I wanted to eat with animals I would go to the zoo. Just not thrilled about it. But again, food was pretty good. Waitress was so nice. Unfortunately I would rather go somewhere that people can’t bring their pets to.
We have been to this local establishment many times over the years. When we (party of 8) were there for dinner on February 7th for a birthday, the woman at the hostess stand (who identified herself as one of the managers (Carla) was nasty and extremely unfriendly and condescending. In a conversation with her she acted as though she was doing us a favor by letting us eat there. The lead up to this was that because a person in our party has Celiac disease and we were celebrating a birthday, we needed to bring gluten free cupcakes instead of a cake. There was no cutting, plating or serving required. Carla wanted to charge us for “storing” the box as she put it. I say to her that she was charging us to take the box to the kitchen???? She said we could keep it at the table. I questioned where it would fit at our table for 8?! She then said she would do it this time but never again. PLEASE keep that woman from the hostess stand. Her tone and the way she spoke was rude. As I said previously, we were a party of 8 people and the food is not inexpensive. I would think twice about going there again. On a positive note, her nastiness did not ruin our evening. Our server JORDAN could not have been nicer and was extremely efficient!!!! He was also very personable. Thank you Jordan for your kindness and efficiency! PLEASE keep CARLA away from the hostess stand!!!!
Went to the lobster fest. Saw on menu advertising 1 and 1/4 lb lobster meal for $50 . Ordered and what I received was no way near what advertised. My dinner partner also ordered the same thing. What we got each a half lobster no way near 1 and 1/4 each. Small 1/2 tail and a stuffed shell with the inside of the legs . Only thing that was really good was the corn risotto . Also had the advertised lobster chowder… with 1/4 inch pieces if lobster legs. ( very few pieces and tons of potatoes… no lobster taste at all!!! All for $144 dollars… what a rip off and I question their advertisement description of the food… false.
We really wanted to love this place because the ambiance is great and the entire space—including Wispers Pub—looks fantastic. Unfortunately, the service and food didn't live up to the environment. The Service: Our experience with the waiter was poor at best. He forgot our appetizers and at least one drink order. We also never received water refills throughout the night. To top it off, when one member of our party paid with cash, the waiter assumed the change was a tip without asking. Had we let that slide, the tip would have been nearly 50%, which was quite bold given the lack of attention. The Food: While the presentation was good, the flavors were lacking. Mahi Mahi w/ Crab: The fish was unfortunately very bland and lacked flavor, though the asparagus was a highlight. Salmon: My wife was equally unimpressed with her salmon entree. Dessert: My crème brûlée was dry and tasteless. However, my wife did enjoy her dessert, which was a very good cake. Drinks: The standout of the meal was the Mexican Chocolate Stout, which was excellent. Wispers Pub: We took a look at the bar and it is a very nice looking little spot, but because the dinner service was such a letdown, we decided to head elsewhere for our evening drinks. Overall: Beautiful venue, but the service and kitchen need a lot of work before we’d consider returning.
I was so excited to have my birthday dinner here. Unfortunately, our waiter was often no-where-to-be-found for the entire meal. I think he may have had tables in another part of the restaurant. There were three different waiters for 3 different parties on the patio, which makes no sense to me. I ordered fried chicken. It was 2 wings which the meat maybe added up to a palm full, for $25! The rest of my party got burgers which were cooked poorly and overly salted. My special event was not special at all. It is really sad, I was here years ago and had a fabulous meal. Disappointing it has cheapened ingredients and practices.
Extremely disappointed return to Hartwood after several years away. Three in our party ordered the burger. All were over-cooked, dry and very salty. The slaw garnish served with the burger was simply inedible. The fried chicken was rather underwhelming and did not include a breast piece. Our server was absent for most of our visit and we needed to ask others to find him. Not sure why management has three different staff service three parties on the patio. If you are looking to sit and drink, perhaps Hartwood may work for you. If you are looking for a good meal, go elsewhere.
